(Photo by Luigi Galiazzo) The Italian new wave act Superportua returns with an all new album, “Grumi”. “Grumi” was preceeded by “Il Funambolo” a single released on Friday April 7th together with a promotional video. The album is available from today on in all digital stores (including Bandcamp) and streaming channels, as well as on CD. “Grumi” will be presented live tomorrow Saturday, November 4th, on the stage of the CSO Django in Treviso.

“Grumi” is the second full-length work published by the Venetian band, a collaboration between Dischi Soviet Studio and Shyrec, distributed by Audioglobe/The Orchard.

About their new work, the band says: “‘Grumi’ are the memories that over the years acquire an insistence and a weight that the then lived present did not have. The light of distant summer afternoons solidifies, actions crystallize, faces veil and words get lost. A timeless mystery remains and the fear of what we have forgotten. The God of “Grumi” is the Ego, the goal is always the Nietzschean one: to kill God. And we are at the slaughterhouse. After the massacre of fictions, the void opens up, an abyss that cannot be overcome by going around it but must be crossed. Stare at the vertigo and never be able to go back. This void, frightening in appearance, is actually the space-non space for a new sense, never experienced before. It is the land on which our being separated sets: we cease to be individuals, appetites are appeased and unrest dissolves into a supreme calm pregnant with purpose. But what will give us the strength to walk on this empty land, without supports or holds, where we expose ourselves to the flash of an unheard sense of fullness and ecstatic fusion with life? “Grumi” is the waiting for the wind that drives souls. And our most vivid memory will be when he arrived, we were waiting for him.”

“Grumi” was co-produced by the band and Tommaso Mantelli. On this album the line-up consists of Michele Romanello (vocals), Fabio Tullio (bass guitar, backing vocals, keyboards, synthesizer), Stefano Petterson (drums), Matteo Pezzutto (guitars), Nicola Biadene (guitars, ukulele), Sergio Orso (violin, keyboards, synthesizers). Daniele Rosa play guitar on “Castità”.

GRUMI by Superportua

The Italian art rock / new wave band Superportua formed in Treviso in 2011. Its sound is a combination of post-rock,new-wave and singer-songwriter genre through lyrics in italian and digressions-interferences from classical to noise music. After the release of two EPs, “Abbastanza Memorabile” (2013) and “Vecchi Diluvi” (2015), the band released their debut album, “Resterai Sempre Uno” (2018).

Ahead of the forthcoming limited edition 5th anniversary release of “Damage”, Kill Shelter has launched an official video for “In Decay [ V ]” featuring Antipole and Delphine Coma. The new version is taken from the “Damage [ V ]” CD which features new versions and remastered tracks.

The original debut CD release was launched in November 2018. Released again on Unknown Pleasures Records, “Damage [ V ]” features vocal contributions and collaborations from a host of global underground artists including; Hante. (FR), Buzz Kull (AUS), Delphine Coma (US), Antipole (NOR), undertheskin (PL), Killjoi (US), The Shyness of Strangers (CA), Iamtheshadow (PT), Ultrviolence (CA), New Haunts (UK) and Bragolin (NL).

“Damage [ V ]” is slated for release on 1st December 2023 with pre-orders starting on 27th October 2023.

Kill Shelter is UK based alternative artist and producer Pete Burns. His work blends elements of darkwave and contemporary electronica with processed guitars.

His 2022 release “Asylum” is currently available via Metropolis Records and Manic Depression Records. Das ORCHESTRAL MANOEUVRES IN THE DARK ist immer noch nicht bereit für die Rente und das, obwohl man schon seit Ende der 70er Jahre aktiv ist und in den 80ern mit „Maid Of Orleans“ einen ewigen Klassiker dieses großen Jahrzehnt geschaffen hat. Nach ihrer Pause zwischen den Jahren 1996 und 2007 startete die Band bzw. Andy McCluskey und Paul Humphreys dann wieder richtig durch. Im Gegensatz zu vielen ihrer alten Kollegen ruhten sich OMD dabei allerdings nicht auf den alten Erfolgen aus, sondern veröffentlichten drei neue Studio-Alben, welche zwar an ihre früheren elektronischen Werke angelehnt waren und trotzdem recht modern klangen. Mit „Bauhaus Staircase“ setzt man jetzt zum vierten Mal diesen Trend fort und liefert gleichzeitig das am meisten politisch motivierte Album ihrer Karriere ab. Geschichtlich interessiert waren OMD ja schon immer und Tracks wie „Bunker Soldiers“, „Engola Day“, „The Messerschmith Twins“ und „Radio Prague“ sind beste Beispiele dafür, ernste Themen auch in flotten Synthie Pop verpacken zu können. Die 12 neuen Songs auf „Bauhaus Staircase“ stehen dem nun in nichts nach und kritisieren thematisch den aktuellen Zustand der Welt und insbesondere der Demokratie. Musikalisch wird das Ganze mit dem futuristisch-kühlen Minimal Electronic Synth Pop zwischen KRAFTWERK und NEW ORDER ummantelt, was in Verbindung mit der warmen Stimme von Andy McCluskey dann absolut typisch für das ORCHESTRAL MANOUVRES IN THE DARK klingt. Auf den letzten beiden Tracks „Evolution Of Species“ und „Healing“ gibt es aber sogar noch eine richtige Überraschung, denn bei diesen Songs gab es eine Kollaboration mit Uwe Schmidt (LASSIGUE BENDTHAUS, SENOR COCONUT, ATOM TM), die so nicht unbedingt zu erwarten war! „Bauhaus Staircase“ ist ein ungemein frisches Album geworden (eigentlich ihr bestes seit den 80er Jahren), welches bewährtes mit neuem verknüpft, zum nachdenken anregt und trotzdem locker tanzbar ist. Andy McCluskey hat darüber gesagt: „Ich bin sehr glücklich mit dem, was wir auf dieser Platte gemacht haben. Ich fühle mich wohl, falls dies das letzte Statement von OMD sein sollte.“ Ich hoffe einfach mal nicht und wenn doch, dann wäre „Bauhaus Staircase“ ein wirklich sehr starker Abgang! (Marco Fiebag)

DISILLUSION feiern 2024 das 20-jährige Jubiläum ihres Albums “Back To Times Of Splendor” (2004). Im Zuge dessen hat die Progressive Metal-Band auch eine Tournee angekündigt, auf der das komplette Werk in voller Länge dargeboten werden soll.

Bestätigt wurden bislang Shows in Hamburg, München, Wien (A), Basel (CH), Stuttgart, Rüsselsheim, Köln und Berlin.

Zeitgleich ist im April 2024 zudem eine Neuauflage der Platte via Metal Blade geplant.

Die Crossover-Band KONTRUST veröffentlicht ihr neues Album “Madworld” am 3. November 2023 via Napalm Records. Mit “lederhosen overkill” ist nun die dritte Single als Video-Clip erschienen. Auch die zweite Single “The End” gibt es als Musikvideo bei YouTube.

Nach fünf Jahren melden sich BURDEN OF GRIEF mit einem neuen Album und neuer Besetzung wieder zurück: “Destination Dystopia” erscheint als CD, limitierte Vinyl LP-Auflage sowie in digitalen Formaten am 24. November 2023 über Massacre Records. Neu bei der Thrash/Death Metal-Band sind Gitarrist Dominik Hellmuth und Schlagzeger Manuel Lüke.

Mit “A Daydream Of Sorrow” gibt es nun einen weiteren Video-Clip.

Zuvor hat die Band mit einem Videoclip zu “Fevered Dreams” einen ersten Song vorgestellt.

„Dies ist der allererste Song, den wir für das neue Album geschrieben haben,  es ist auch der erste Song unseres neuen Gitarristen Dome,“ verrät die Band. „2003 war das letzte Mal, dass ein BURDEN OF GRIEF Song nicht von unserem Bandgründer Philipp oder von unserem langjährigen Gitarristen Joe geschrieben wurde, der die Band leider 2021 nach 15 Jahren verlassen hat. Daher hat “Fevered Dreams” einen Sonderstatus für uns. Er fügt sich aber trotzdem perfekt in unser bisheriges Schaffen ein.“

Kristian “Kohle” Kohlmannslehner und Daniel Claar kümmerten sich in den Kohlekeller Studios um die Schlagzeugaufnahmen sowie das Mixing und das Mastering des Albums.

NECK CEMETERY veröffentlichten ihre neue Platte “Bring Us The Head” am 27. Oktober 2023.  Das zweite Album der Heavy Metal-Band wurde via Reaper Entertainment veröffentlicht. Einen weiteren Höreindruck bietet nun das Lyric-Video “Judgement Night” bei YouTube.

Zuvor hat die Band auch ein Video zu “F.O.A.D.” bei YouTube geteilt – der Song ist der zweite Vorab-Track des Albums. Als erste Single haben NECK CEMETARY im August ein Video zu “Secrets Of Steel” veröffentlicht.

“Bring Us The Head” wurde im Frühjahr 2023 im Gernhart-Studio in Troisdorf mit Produzent Martin Buchwalter aufgenommen.

“Wir sind sehr glücklich und stolz, euch heute das Cover-Artwork für unser kommendes Album “Bring Us The Head” zu präsentieren. Wie schon bei unserem Debüt wurde das Artwork von Besil Wrathbone gestaltet, der wieder einmal einen fantastischen Job gemacht hat. Die Hardcore / Grindcore-Band BRAT hat mit “Social Grace” den Titeltrack ihres kommenden Albums als Video-Clip veröffentlicht.

“Der Song ist ein Umweltkommentar über die Auswirkungen der Wohlhabenden auf den Zustand unseres Planeten und knüpft an das übergeordnete Thema unseres Albums an, das die verschiedenen Notlagen der Menschheit erforscht”, erklärt die Band.

“Social Grace” ist das erste Album der US-Amerikaner aus New Orleans, die zuvor zwei EPs veröffentlicht haben. Der Release-Termin via Prosthetic Records steht noch nicht fest.

BRAT sind Gitarrist Brenner Moate, Sängerin Liz Selfish, Drummer Dustin Eagan und Bassist Ian Hennessey.

Die Technical Death Metal-Band COGNIZANCE hat mit “Phantazein” ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist nach “Malignant Dominion” (2019) und “Upheaval” (2021) das dritte Album der Engländer aus Leeds.

“Phantazein” ist ein Konzeptalbum, das sich mit dem komplizierten Zusammenspiel von Kunst, Besessenheit und dem tiefgreifenden Einfluss der eigenen Umgebung beschäftigt. Das Album wurde von Ronnie Björnström (MEZZROW, Ex-BONE GNAWER) gemixt und gemastert und mit einem Cover-Artwork von Dan P Carter (KROKODIL, HEXES, Ex-BLOODHOUND GANG) ausgestattet. Erscheinen wird das Album am 26. Januar 2024 via Willowtip Records. Vorab gibt es mit “The Towering Monument” einen Video-Clip.

Die finnische Melodic / Progressive Metal-Band NOTIO hat mit “Worldview” ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist nach “Lucid Dreams For Sale” (2019) das zweite Album des Solo-Projekts von Albert Olli, der an den Drums und Keyboards von Produzent Pasi Löfgrén (WHERE’S MY BIBLE, MUSTAN KUUN LAPSET) unterstützt wurde.

“Worldview” wurde mit einem Cover-Artwork von Petri Lampela ausgestattet und wird am 8. März 2024 via Inverse Records erscheinen. Vorab gibt es den Track “Solipsism” zu hören.

Am 25. November 2023 lädt das RIPPLEFEST BERLIN zum zweiten Mal in das Roadrunner’s Paradise ein. Auf dem Billing stehen die Berliner Stoner Rocker CANNABINEROS, die spanische Occult-Doom Band KABBALAH, die Stoner/Doom Band CRYSTAL SPIDERS aus den USA sowie die französischen Heavy Rocker APPALOOZA.

Das RIPPLEFEST COLOGNE findet am 2. Dezember 2023 im Club Volta in Köln statt und feiert dieses Jahr seine vierte Ausgabe. Headliner sind die Progressive Psych Rock Band MOTHER’S CAKE aus Österreich,außerdem spielen die Berliner Stoner Rocker CANNABINEROS, die spanischen Band KABBALAH, die US-amerikanischen CRYSTAL SPIDERS, die Stoner-Doomer Daevar aus Köln, die französischen Rocker APPALOOZA und die Stoner Rocker FIRE DOWN BELOW aus Belgien.

Organisator der beiden Ripplefests ist Max Röbel, Frontmann der Kölner Heavy Rock Band PLAINRIDE und Head of A&R Europe beim Platten-Label Ripple Music.

„Dass wir mit den Ripplefests eine Bühne für Musik abseits des Mainstream schaffen und diese dann auch noch so international besetzen können, ist mir ein großes Anliegen. Dieses Jahr läutet TARJA die festliche Jahreszeit frühzeitig ein: „Dark Christmas“, der Nachfolger ihres Albums „From Spirits and Ghosts (Score for a Dark Christmas)“ aus dem Jahr 2017, erscheint am 10. Kann man Leidenschaft zum Vorwurf machen? Es hat schließlich seinen Grund, warum PLAGUESTORM so fest im skandinavischen Melodic Death Metal verwurzelt sind. Eine eigene Handschrift zu entwickeln, ist für das Soloprojekt des argentinischen Multiinstrumentalisten Sbeastián Pastor dadurch natürlich schwierig, umgeht den größten Kritikpunkt des letzten Albums „Purifying Fire“ (2021) allerdings durch einen ganz simplen Kniff: „Empty Eyes“ ist als kleiner Snack im EP-Format so schnell wieder vorbei, dass sich gar kein Sättigungsgefühl einstellen kann.

Das spielt Pastor durchaus in die Hände, denn seine Stärken kommen in dieser Viertelstunde zweifellos zum Tragen. Der Musiker versteht nicht nur, wie das Genre tickt, sondern weiß auch um die feinen Dinge Bescheid. Abwechslung ist somit genug geboten, wenn der Opener „Thrown Into The Void“ noch mit göteborgschen Riffs Marke klassischer IN FLAMES um die Ecke kommt, bevor das starke „Gardens of Fire“ im Midtempo einer regelrechten Huldigung der melodischen Seite HYPOCRISYs gleicht. Der kurzweilige Titeltrack wiederum sitzt irgendwo zwischen alten DARK TRANQUILLITY und AT THE GATES.

PLAGUESTORM-Mastermind Sebastián Pastor weiß, wie das Genre tickt
Neben diesen hochklassigen Referenzen passt auch das Drumherum: Mit FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE-Drummer Eugene Ryabchenko und Gastsänger Okko Solanterä (HORIZON IGNITED), der im Opener gar ein wenig Klargesang beisteuert, profitiert „Empty Eyes“ auch in der Umsetzung von entsprechend professionellem Know-how.

Allein über den Tellerrand hinausblicken kann man mit PLAGUESTORM anno 2023 weiterhin nicht, dafür gehorcht Sebastián Pastor zu sehr den etablierten Eckpfeilern des Genres. Ein Problem? Nur, wenn man es dazu macht, schließlich spricht aus den drei Kompositionen auch die Leidenschaft ihres Schöpfers – und das kann man dem Künstler doch wohl kaum zum Vorwurf machen, oder?

Die Fuzz Rock-Band EARL OF HELL hat einen neuen Song veröffentlicht: “Impaler” steht via YouTube als Clip bereit. Aufgenommen wurde das Stück von Andrew Cairns, den Mix übernahm die Band selbst, das Mastering wiederum Alain Johannes.

“Impaler” soll ein erster Vorgeschmack auf ein für 2024 geplantes Studioalbum sein.

“Es geht um Blutdurst, Rache und Gesetzlosigkeit. Wir wollten in die Walachei des 15. Jahrhunderts zurückkehren und eine blutige Momentaufnahme der berüchtigten Herrschaft eines sadistischen Anführers und seines brutalen Vermächtnisses geben und die starke Verzerrung, die stampfende Rhythmusgruppe und den scharfen Gesang aufdrehen, die uns zu dem machen, was wir sind.”

Invoking a dark storm looming on the horizon, Madrid’s Gothic Rock ensemble, <a href="https://www.instagram.com/newwavekill/?hl=es">New Wave Kill</a>, beckons an otherworldly allure to the global darkwave stage with their third single release.

Their newest offering, “Between Shadows,” heralds the ensemble’s eagerly awaited debut album slated for a grand entrance in the forthcoming year. The track is a captivating blend of Gothic Post Punk with a hint of Neofolk, echoing the revered sounds of iconic bands like Sisters Of Mercy and Bauhaus. Spearheaded by the enigmatic vocalist Felipe Vein, alongside virtuosos Iulia Richea on the keys, Juan Córdoba with the sticks, and Nico Aguirre on bass, this Madrid-based quartet is gearing up to carve out a notable legacy with their razor-sharp knack for gothic rock.

Regarding the song’s anthemic appeal, “Between Shadows is the scream of a generation striving to preserve its uniqueness amidst a facade-centric society,” muses Felipe.

The lyrical tale is elevated with a visually entrancing music video orchestrated by the band alongside filmmaker Irene Montes. Set against a Brutalist architectural panorama, it unveils a compelling performance through a labyrinth of corridors and balconies, with Felipe’s velvety baritone caressing the misty night.

Embarking on a digital odyssey, <a href="https://www.instagram.com/socialordermusic/">Social Order</a> unveils their evocative video for the darkwave single, Tantalize, featuring synth-pop maverick <a href="https://www.instagram.com/johnny.dynamite/?hl=en">Johnny Dynamite</a>. The nostalgic allure of the track seems to swim in the eerie reflection of our modern infatuation with the virtual realm.

Remember the 1984 spectacle of new wave whimsy, Electric Dreams, where a peculiar love triangle between a man, his neighbor, and his sentient computer unfolds to a synth score by Giorgio Moroder? Representative of its time, it showed how the 80s fostered a surreal fascination for the sentient AI—a concept both within grasp and leagues away in a distant future imagined by Isaac Asimov.

Leapfrogging to the present, nearly three decades deep into the internet age, our reality now mirrors the fiction of yore. Days are punctuated by interactions with chatbots and virtual assistants—entities eerily skirting the Turing horizon. Naturally, for some men online, it’s a curious modern tableau: the lonely heart finding companionship in the code-stitched visage of non-existence.

It’s against this backdrop that the post-punk trio Social Order crafts Tantalize, a poignant narrative spun around the surreal allure of the unattainable. Enlisting the talents of NYC’s Johnny Dynamite, the track emerges as a melodic echo in the void between reality and the digital illusion.

“After watching the Alex Lee Moyer documentary (TFW NO GF) and the film “Her” I started writing Tantalize. There’s a huge wave of AI models and what I find crazy is the number of fans they have. People are obsessed with them. The idea of being completely captivated by someone who doesn’t exist…I thought that was a perfect concept for a song.”

The music video for “Tantalize” serves as a visual crescendo to this satirical ode to the unreal, showcasing the juxtaposition of desert roads and urban streets, with the band’s touring footage serving as a representation of the artificial, ethereal, and the real, all wrapped up in the limitations of our own perceptions.

Die Melodic Death Metal-Band PSYANIDE hat einen Labeldeal bei Wormholedeath Records unterschrieben. Im Zuge dessen werden die Griechen aus Thessaloniki ihr neues Album “Vertigo” veröffentlichen. Es ist nach “I Declare War” (2018) das zweite Album der 2013 gegründeten Band.

“Vertigo” wurde von Achilleas Manopoulos gemixt und gemastert. Der Release-Termin steht noch nicht fest. Allerdings gibt es zum Titeltrack einen Video-Clip.

“Going numb” is the first single out of Mekong’s upcoming album “Danse Danse”. Mekong is a post-punk project from Kraków, Poland which is signed to the French record label Icy Cold Records.

“Going Numb” is about a girl’s last night out, where the dance floor becomes her sanctuary one final time. The video for the track was directed by Pedro Viernes and features Liudmyla Radyk as the main character.

Alte Spinnerei, Glauchau, Germany 30th October 2023Destruction - “40 Years Of Destruction - Europe Tour 2023” - Support: Whiplash, Enforcer, Crisix WOW! What a brilliant Thrash Metal concert evening in the Alte Spinnerei Glauchau. I haven’t been in the location for a while and the stage has changed in the meantime. Some improvements have been made. The PA on the left and right of the stage now hangs from the ceiling on steel cables and this gives the stage more width. The light setup has also been improved. Overall, the stage has been well redesigned. A nice setup with which the audience can continue to enjoy many live events in the Alte Spinnerei Glauchau in the future.

Die Black Metal-Band RÜYYN hat nach “Part III” mit “Part II” einen zweiten Track ihres kommenden Albums “Chapter II: The Flames, The Fallen, The Fury” veröffentlicht. Es ist nach einer selbstbetitelten EP das erste Album des französischen Solo-Projekts von Romain Paulet.

“Chapter II: The Flames, The Fallen, The Fury” wurde mit einem Cover-Arwork von Joanna Maeyens (u.a. für PAYDRETZ tätig) ausgestattet und wird am 1. Dezember 2023 via Les Acteurs de l’Ombre Productions erscheinen.
