Spleen+, in collaboration with Alfa Matrix, is currently compiling “Resurgence.1”, a comprehensive compilation encompassing over 100 tracks. This ambitious project seeks to showcase a spectrum of genres including cold wave, post-punk, darkwave, ethereal, gothic, and minimal synth. Artists and groups with work in these genres are invited to contribute to this significant endeavor.
The final product will be presented in a deluxe box set, replete with an extensive booklet featuring band photographs and additional materials. “Resurgence.1” is set to be available in both vinyl and CD formats. While there is artwork associated with this announcement, it is provisional and subject to change as the project progresses.
How can you submit to this post-punk compilation project?
Submissions are currently being accepted. Artists can forward their music in WAV file format via download links to seba@alfa-matrix.com, ensuring that the tracks are named in the following format: BANDNAME_songtitle. It is imperative to use a file transfer service and not send files as attachments.
Post submission, Alfa Matrix will undertake the selection process and reach out to the chosen artists with an official licensing proposal and further details. It is important to note that this compilation does not operate on a ‘pay for play’ basis, distinguishing itself from numerous other projects in the industry.
If you want an idea how diverse such compilation can be, check out our very own “Post-Punk (Genesis)” Bandcamp compilation released in 2021 and which did extremely well on Bandcamp.

03.11.2023 - WINTERHORDE: kündigen neues Progressive Melodic Black Metal Album “Neptunian” an

Dezember 2023 via Noble Demon erscheinen.

03.11.2023 - A Place Both Wonderful and Strange — Jersey City’s Creamrs Take Us to a Circus Freakshow in Their Video for “Kokomo”

Embarking on an eerie yet exhilarating jaunt, Jersey City-based trio <a href="https://www.instagram.com/creamrsmusic/">Creamrs</a> unveil a spectacle of whimsy and weirdness in their latest visual offering for the track “Kokomo”. Through the veil of the macabre, they pull us into a circus freakshow, a realm both tantalizing and terrifying.
Creamrs are a melodic convergence comprised of Jeffrey Roger, who lends his voice and strums the guitar, Eric Luszcz on bass and keys, and Michael Santostefano on drums. Their collective past is a musical mosaic with tenure in bands like Pale Angels, D’arcy, and Faded. With roots burrowing into the gritty sounds of The Cramps and The Stooges, their sonic palette is a wild ride.
“Kokomo” is an auditory escapade birthed and nurtured in the heart of Brooklyn, NY, under the meticulous ear of Ben Greenberg at the erstwhile Strange Weather studio. Ben, a maven of melody known for his exploits with Uniform and The Men, didn’t just helm the boards but also jazzed up the track with a ‘harmonica’ solo, a melodica veiled in a cascade of harmonizers. The tune carries a playful spirit reminiscent of 80s college rock icons like They Might Be Giants, REM, and Violent Femmes, with a twang that nods to Creedence.
When the night before the song’s video shoot heralded the demise of their Super 8 film camera, it was a serendipitous encounter with a Samsung Flip 5 smartphone that saved the day. With its super-wide lens, it captured the eerie allure of the freakshow, mirroring the essence of the tune. The visual narrative, shot amid the rustic charm of West New Jersey, is a homage to the peculiar, drawing inspiration from the grotesque beauty of Tod Browning’s “Freaks,” the eerie allure of Tobe Hooper’s “The Funhouse,” and the whimsical narrative of Squirrel Nut Zippers’ “Hell.” The touch of Twin Peaks’ eerie essence is unmistakable, but there are nods to old freak shows lending ideas for quaint characters like Lobster Boy and Snake Man.
To bridge the digital abyss and reach for a more filmic finesse, a cohort of NYC visual maestros were rallied. Sam LaBella orchestrated the silent-film style “CENSORED” intertitle, while Giles Sherwood waved his color grading wand, transforming the celluloid from mere smartphone footage to a reel reminiscent of Kodak 16mm film.
Watch the video for “Kokomo” below:
Marking their studio debut with a bang on 11/3, “Love Songs” is a compilation of auditory narratives, including “Kokomo,” past singles, and more. The artwork adorning the album is a creation of NJ artist Ricardo Osmondo Francis, a canvas named “Hands That Bring the Water,” which has graced the halls of the Hudson Valley Museum of Contemporary Art in Peekskill, NY.

03.11.2023 - Los Angeles New Wave Outfit Basic Elements Debut Video for “Shakin'”

B<a href="http://instagram.com/basic_elements_music">asic Elements</a> emerged from the crucible of the 1980s post-punk epoch, a time when the air was thick with the rebellious spirit of musical innovation. This band, whose members hadn’t yet seen their eighteenth summers, swiftly became fixtures of the Phoenix scene. They shared stages with the Gin Blossoms, Gentlemen Afterdark, and Caterwaul, and greeted national touring acts like Bolshoi and Gene Loves Jezebel as their opening act. Despite their precocity and burgeoning acclaim, the group’s chapter closed in 1991, the year they scattered to disparate paths: one to chisel forms from marble and bronze, another to conjure stories in the producer’s chair, and the third to navigate the currents of real estate.
Decades, have lapsed, and in that time, the cityscapes have transformed just as their individual lives have. Yet, in a turn as unexpected as it is delightful, Basic Elements has found resurrection in the sun-soaked sprawl of Los Angeles. The revival of this new wave ensemble is not a mere echo of past glories but a striking reentry into the cultural conversation—a distilled essence of 1985, injected straight into the heart of the modern music scene, undiluted and thrillingly alive.
With a series of new wave singles already under their belt, Basic Elements now returns to the forefront of the scene with what might be described as their most audacious undertaking to date. Shakin‘ arrives as a tumultuous celebration, a piece that evokes the frenetic energy of the Violent Femmes and the idiosyncratic charm of Sparks. It’s a number brimming with clever, biting lyrics and a chorus that invites- no – implores the listener to join in with its infectious refrain.
Shakin‘ was conceived in the youthful exuberance of 1985, penned by band members who were navigating the terrain of their teenage years. It is this genesis that renders the track a seamless fit for the universe of a John Hughes film, suffused with the vibrancy and the raw, untamed spirit of that era. This unabashed eighties verve is precisely what ensnared the attention of Chris Applebaum, the VMA-winning director renowned for his collaborations with the likes of Rihanna and Britney Spears. Applebaum, inspired by the track’s essence, proposed a tribute to The Breakfast Club as a means to visually encapsulate the song’s core.
However, amid the thrill of engaging with a luminary of music video direction such as Applebaum, Basic Elements made a conscious choice to pause, to reflect, to ensure that Shakin‘ was presented in a manner true to its origins—the raw, unchecked pulse of teenage rebellion. It is a time capsule that captures the heart of its epoch while resonating with the tenor of today.
Watch the video for “Shakin'” below:
At the helm of Basic Elements are founders John Denis, Jonathan Goldman, and William Bowling, complemented by the dynamic Dan Konopka and Gene Micofsky. Opting for a generational handover in their latest video, the band enlists their daughters, including Kansas and Parker Bowling—both with screen credits in Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood—to forge an all-female reinterpretation of the group. This creative succession not only honors their legacy but also intertwines the band’s past with a burgeoning artistic future, symbolizing a vibrant familial tapestry of music and film.
“I loved “Shakin’” the second I heard it, but it wasn’t until my kid said it was “cool” that I knew I had to make this video,” says Applebaum.
“Shakin’ is all about trying to play it cool even though you’re dying on the inside 100 times a day,” says vocalist John Denis. “I think every kid can relate to that, plus some adults.”
The band is currently in the studio recording their first new material in over 35 years with producer, Mark Howard (U2, Iggy Pop, R.E.M.) and plans to release the new songs in 2024.

03.11.2023 - Philadelphia Post-Punk Outfit The Silence Kit Debut Video for “Let Me Dream”

Hailing from the vibrant musical landscape of Philadelphia, <a href="http://www.instagram.com/thesilencekit">The" rel="noopener nofollow noreferrer" target="_blank">http://www.instagram.com/thesilencekit">The Silence Kit</a> emerges as a formidable force in the realm of post-punk. With their textured, dark, indie rock sound, the band has etched their mark since their inception in 2001 as a solo project led by the enigmatic singer and guitarist Patrick McCay. Drawing inspiration from a diverse tapestry of influences including post-punk, indie-rock, shoegaze, and neo-psychedelia, The Silence Kit has undergone a natural evolution, enthralling audiences with their riveting performances and a discography that boasts a string of LPs, EPs, and singles over the years.
On the crisp autumn evening of November 3, 2023, the world bore witness to the digital release of The Silence Kit’s latest offering, “It’s Not Too Late,” under the banner of Azteca Records. Accompanying this eagerly awaited release was the unveiling of the music video for the album’s standout single, “Let Me Dream.” The track pulsates with the band’s signature fusion of driving yet atmospheric post-punk, evoking nostalgic echoes reminiscent of revered acts like The Cure, The Sound, The Comsat Angels, and The Psychedelic Furs.
Imbued with 80s-style sensibilities, “Let Me Dream” resonates as if the early stylings of U2 collided head-on with the evocative allure of The Chameleons amidst the vibrant milieu of New York City’s Lower East Side during the heyday of the post-punk-revival. The video, courtesy of Director Lee Eschliman, features an artful visualization that effortlessly captures the fluctuating shades of darkness and light that mirror the song’s emotional contours. The collage of footage oscillates between stormy clouds and nocturnal urban vistas, creating a liminal, dream-like ambiance that perfectly complements the track’s immersive lyrics.
Watch the video for “Let Me Dream” below:
“It’s Not Too Late” marks The Silence Kit’s sixth studio album, building upon the success of their critically acclaimed 2018 release, “Fall Protection,” which was featured exclusively on Big Takeover and garnered widespread praise from enthusiasts of post-punk, indie rock, and alternative music fans alike.

The journey of recording “It’s Not Too Late” commenced in the early months of 2020, unknowingly preceding the global pandemic that would soon engulf the world. As the album sees the light of day in November 2023, it showcases a band that has honed their sonic palette while staying true to their artistic essence. From the propulsive vigor of tracks like “Let Me Dream,” “Blood,” and “Nonsense” to the introspective depths of “Hoping Isn’t Helping” and “Draw Me,” alongside the ethereal indie-rock allure of “Losing Sight” and “Overwhelming Things,” and the synth-driven intensity of “Vacancy Chain,” the LP presents a rich tapestry of musical diversity.

03.11.2023 - A Dark Star Falls — Twin Tribes Debut Video for “Monolith” — Plus Announce New Album “Pendulum”

Following the rich umbra cast by their debut album, Shadows, and the ritualistic celebrations evoked by their sophomore release, Ceremony, <a href="https://www.instagram.com/twin_tribes">Twin" rel="noopener nofollow noreferrer" target="_blank">https://www.instagram.com/twin_tribes">Twin Tribes</a> return with their latest offering, Pendulum. The duo, after a four-year interval from original releases and a continuous US live circuit tour, retreated to the studio in the scorching summer of 2023 to craft this third auditory journey. Pendulum swings Twin Tribes through cosmic contemplation, the exaltation of love, the abyss of blind adoration, and the undying fascination with the inevitable – death.
Pendulum is not just a new album; it’s the more profound evolution of Twin Tribes’ artistry. It flirts with a rougher edge while diving into a blend of unexplored analog and digital realms. The spine of the album is built on pulsing bass synths and rhythmic drum machines, while its soul retains the bright guitars, nostalgic 80s synths, somber lyrics, and haunting vocals that have become synonymous with Twin Tribes. The album seamlessly marries the Gothic with the romantic, dancing gracefully on the line dividing light from dark.
Twin Tribes also spices up the sonic narrative with a dash of Rock en Español, notably in their first ever Spanish track, Sangre de Oro. “There are many influences that can be heard throughout the ten tracks. Our love for Rock en Español, for example, can be heard on the first track we penned completely in Spanish, Sangre de Oro. It’s inspired by the great Latin American bands of the 80’s.”
The first single, Monolith, released alongside a visually striking music video by Kinowave, delves into the paranormal, tracing the tragic timeline of an innocent being. The music is a haunting blend of ominous yet dancey synths and Twin Tribes’ trademark guitar shivers, all under the shadow of Louis Navarro’s menacing vocals. Directed by Sultan Mars and featuring Gale Yavorski alongside the band, the music video is a cosmic horror tale that could rival the most chilling episodes of X-Files. It presents a stark vision of stars and cosmic dust interrupted by a meteor crash. The song’s titular monolith, evoking Arthur C. Clarke’s imagery but with a sinister twist, marks the start of a dark metamorphosis for the heroine in the narrative.
Watch the video for “Monolith” below:
Pendulum is described as an exploration of duality, correspondence, and polarity, akin to the rhythmic sway of tides. “Just like tides all things rise and fall, the pendulum swings equally from right to left, and there is no light without dark.” It will sweep across the globe beginning on January 26, 2024, under the banners of Beso De Muerte Records in North America and Young & Cold Records elsewhere.

Swedish solo project Faidra emerged in the late summer of 2019, with a sound deeply rooted in the Atmospheric/Orthodox Black Metal genre, drawing significant inspiration from the early 90s Scandinavian Black Metal scene, especially Burzum. The inception of Faidra was somewhat accidental, stemming from explorative sessions in Dark Folk music. The man behind Faidra, having played in various bands and primarily in the Folk Music genre since the late ’90s, found a new musical direction which evolved into the entity known as Faidra.

03.11.2023 - ESCAPE FROM WONDERLAND: weiteres Video vom neuen Metalcore Album “Pieces”

November 2023 via Drakkar Entertainment.
ESCAPE FROM WONDERLAND sind Sänger Dennis Burhenne, Gitarrist und Sänger Lars Köke, Gitarrist Dennis Frei, Bassist Cornelius Stock sowie Drummer Benjamin Stempfle.

03.11.2023 - Facebook and Instagram Ad-Free? Time to Pay Up now.

Meta is offering a subscription service that allows users in the European Union and Switzerland to stop seeing ads on Facebook and Instagram so the Social Media Agency FOX DS reports. The company claims this move complies with the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
For a monthly fee ranging from 10 to 13 euros, depending on the purchasing channel, users can subscribe to this service. Meta states that customers will pay 10 euros through a web browser, while the price for the same subscription via iOS and Android is set at 13 euros due to Apple and Google’s commission fees. The subscription covers all user accounts linked within the shared Account Center. Starting from March 1, 2024, customers will pay an additional 6 euros per month via the web and an additional 8 euros via iOS and Android for each additional linked account in the Account Center. It is still unclear whether these additional fees will also apply to existing linked accounts. The subscription is only available to customers aged eighteen and over.
Meta in a Tangle with Data Protection Rules
Meta explains that the new subscription model is a response to the concerns of European regulators and the rules of the GDPR and Digital Markets Act (DMA). Social media platforms, including Facebook, are regularly criticized by privacy watchdogs for the unauthorized collection of user data. With this model, Meta offers users the choice to opt out of receiving personalized ads. For non-subscribers, nothing changes; they will continue to see personalized ads and have access to the current settings and preferences for ads.
It emphasizes that the subscription is a complement to the current ad-supported model. This service is only being launched in regions with strict data protection regulations and is merely an option for the user. On the company’s blog, Meta states it believes in an ad-supported internet and that the new subscription is purely a reaction to European legislation. After all, Facebook tracks your online behavior to then display targeted ads.
But Who Still Trusts the Company Behind Facebook and Instagram?
Now, the question is how many people are actually willing to pay to escape these ads and the constant stream of ads in their Instagram feed. Whether people will actually take this step remains to be seen. An online survey by Recode and market research firm Toluna in 2018 among American users showed that most Americans would not pay, despite their distrust of Facebook with their personal data. And that trust has not exactly increased over the years.
Trust in Meta, the owner of Facebook and Instagram, has seen fluctuations, particularly due to data breaches and controversies. A notable example is the scandal involving Cambridge Analytica, which affected the data of up to 87 million individuals. Recent figures indicate that nearly half (48%) of people claim not to trust Meta’s platforms. Over the years, the company’s numerous controversies have likely contributed to this mistrust, despite its growth and expansion into new areas.
77 percent would stick with the regular ad version, while 23 percent would pay to have no ads. However, there is a big difference between saying and paying.

03.11.2023 - Darkwave Project Soft Vein’s Justin Chamberlain Shares 15 Albums That Inspired His Debut Album “Pressed in Glass”

Emerging as a lauded figure in the thriving Californian Darkwave scene, musician Justin Chamberlain has crafted a distinct sonic persona with his solo project, <a href="https://click.icptrack.com/icp/relay.php?r=46510388&msgid=520195&act=D14C&c=914209&pid=4119108&destination=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.instagram.com%2Fsoftvein_%2F&cf=7536&v=0aba7b43a31c6f604d2d7ee8a6d7721a360c854a44a873b5be7850fd6a0a70b2">SOFT" rel="noopener nofollow noreferrer" target="_blank">https://click.icptrack.com/icp/relay.php?r=46510388&msgid=520195&act=D14C&c=914209&pid=4119108&destination=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.instagram.com%2Fsoftvein_%2F&cf=7536&v=0aba7b43a31c6f604d2d7ee8a6d7721a360c854a44a873b5be7850fd6a0a70b2">SOFT VEIN</a>. Known for his electrifying performances with Harsh Symmetry, Chamberlain has ventured into the realms of dark post-punk, coldwave, and industrial soundscapes, resonating deeply within the underground music community.
Chamberlain”s solo venture commenced in late 2022 with the unveiling of singles “GIVEUPTHEGHOST” and “VIOLENTIA.” These tracks hinted at a unique blend of haunting melodies intertwined with industrial echoes, a signature that has now become emblematic of SOFT VEIN. Through this project, Chamberlain not only reveres the deep-seated roots of the international darkwave scene but infuses a contemporary, personal flair that has impressed both audiences and critics.
SOFT VEIN’s debut album, PRESSED IN GLASS, is out now and available under Artoffact Records, showcasing his evolving musical ingenuity that was inspired by the legacy artists of the 70s and 80s, as well as his contemporaries today.

<a href="https://softvein.bandcamp.com/album/pressed-in-glass">PRESSED IN GLASS by SOFT VEIN</a>
Delving deeper into this musical arcana, Chamberlain has unveiled “15 Picks From His Record Collection That Influenced PRESSED IN GLASS. This list serves as a window into the albums that ignited his creative fervor, molding the unique soundscapes of SOFT VEIN. Each album is but one facet in a baroque tapestry of emotions and narratives, now echoing through the threads that weave the aural soundscapes of PRESSED IN GLASS. This collection showcases a delicate fusion of past inspirations with contemporary experimentation, painting a vivid picture of SOFT VEIN’s evocative yet enthralling musical identity.
In no particular order, here are Justin”s 15 picks from his music collection that influenced PRESSED IN GLASS:
NITZER EBB – THAT TOTAL AGE
A throbbing, muscular, visceral record. Douglas McCarthy’s explicit, blunt lyrics about bodies, lust, rage, etc., chanted repeatedly over pumping basslines and cold, clanging drum machines, had a significant impact on my approach to writing songs like “VIOLENTIA” and “LEASH.”
Favorite track: “Violent Playground”
SELOFAN – VITRIOLI
Driving and mysterious, dark and danceable. A cold, haunting record and my personal favorite from Selofan.
Favorite track: “Give Me a Reason”
TUBEWAY ARMY – REPLICAS
The first time I heard “Down in the Park” as a kid, I remember being sort of entranced and creeped out. That unsettled feeling is still there when I hear that song. Such incredible synth sounds and production and effects on this album, really simple machine-like drumming.
Favorite Track: “Down in the Park”
SPIKE HELLIS – SPIKE HELLIS
I find this album very inspiring. Clanging, pumping, industrial-tinged EBM, with samples and synth sounds evocative yet modern. Silky smooth at times, always with an undercurrent of danger. Visceral lyrical horror. Amazing record.
Favorite track: “Help”
THE BLUE NILE – HATS
It’s such an aching, lonesome synthpop record. Very raw and honest vocals, beautiful, clean production, and excellent synth sounds.
Favorite track: “The Downtown Lights”
JULEE CRUISE – FALLING INTO THE NIGHT
It is a gorgeous, dreamy record with obvious ties to Twin Peaks, which holds a special place in my heart. A swaying, whispering, midnight kind of record, with ambient guitars and soft synths everywhere, and stunning vocal production. Julee Cruise and Angelo Badalementi were amazing talents, and this record is a perfect combination of their artistry. A lot of the synth sounds on my record were pulled straight from this record and the Twin Peaks Original Score.
Favorite track: “Falling”
IGGY POP – THE IDIOT
Clanging and droning weirdo krautrock album produced by Bowie (what else needs to be said?) Iggy Pop is a genius, constantly straddling the line between understated, caveman simplicity and something more profound. The production on this record is in the back of my mind almost always; the synth and drum machine sounds, heavy use of plate reverb, etc.
Favorite track: “Nightclubbing”
BAUHAUS- IN THE FLAT FIELD
Again, an obvious choice, but one that’s had a lasting impact. Dark and swirling and hypnotic and bleak, but punk and sloppy and sneering too. Favorite track: “Dark Entries”
SISTERS OF MERCY – “FLOODLAND”
In the category of early influential picks so basic and obvious they go without saying, but I’m including it anyway. Eldritch writes in a detached, observational way that I’ve been inspired by in much of my writing. It goes without saying that sonically this album is a dark, lush, gothic masterpiece, with breathy vocals from Andrew Eldritch, Patricia Morrison’s basslines, and those doomy drum sequences from Doktor Avalanche all having an impact on my own approach.
Favorite track: “Dominion/Mother Russia”
DEPECHE MODE – BLACK CELEBRATION
One of my favorite Depeche Mode albums. Has lots of icy, breathy, ethereal samples and synth sounds I find inspiring.
Favorite track: “A Fly on the Windscreen”
BOY HARSHER – LESSER MAN EP
An obvious choice for darkwave/ebm musicians (and every goth night DJ), this EP was hugely influential when I started SOFT VEIN for the most obvious reasons. They did so much with so little on this EP and it has a really pleasant, slightly unpolished quality to it. Still my favorite of theirs. Favorite track: “Lust”
TYPE O NEGATIVE – OCTOBER RUST
Romantic vampire graveyard sleaze. This record has great contrast. Sadness and lust. Grit and sparkle. Some of the songs feel like the rose, some feel like the thorn.
Favorite track: “Love You To Death”
NINE INCH NAILS – NOT THE ACTUAL EVENTS EP
Nine Inch Nails was my first introduction to synth-based music as a kid and has been an influence in everything I”ve done since. This EP is a less obvious choice and unique in the NIN catalog, but I have a fondness for its production and its ties to the Twin Peaks universe.
Favorite track: “She’s Gone Away”
NICK CAVE & THE BAD SEEDS – MURDER BALLADS
Feels like classic American Gothic literature set to music. I find Nick Cave’s exploration of murderous and violent intrusive thoughts, presented as allegory or legend or myth, to be very inspiring. Written as the thoughts (and actions) of an imaginary character or observations of a third-party narrator, they’re removed from the writer almost completely. I was trying for something similar on my song “PERFECT TEETH,” exploring graphic violent imagery as a way of exorcizing something or evoking a feeling in the listener, expressing something in a removed way.
Favorite track: “O’Malley’s Bar”
(FROM THE ROOFS OF OUR HOUSES)
Doomer lo-fi post-punk. Great synth and drum sounds. The guitars and understated vocal production greatly influenced my own approach to recording my album.
Favorite track: “Тишина (Silence)”

03.11.2023 - San Diego Darkwave Duo Twin Ion Engine Debut New Single “SUPERNOVA”

From the vibrant underground of San Diego arises <a href="https://www.instagram.com/tie__music/">TWIN" rel="noopener nofollow noreferrer" target="_blank">https://www.instagram.com/tie__music/">TWIN ION ENGINE</a>, a band that distills the quintessence of post-punk and darkwave into an audibly arresting concoction. Since its inception in 2020 by frontman Eddie Lopez, TWIN ION ENGINE has evolved from a solitary endeavor into a compelling duo that is a force to be reckoned with.
Eddie Lopez has woven a tapestry of sound that echoes with the spectral notes of post-punk forebears, yet asserts its own modernity. The soundscape of TWIN ION ENGINE is draped in the dusk of melancholic vocals and lit by the piercing glimmer of guitar riffs, all set against a backdrop of robust basslines and the propulsive beat of drums. TIE’s sonic realm is deeply rooted in the alternative rock ethos of the early 2000s, while also paying homage to the classic allure of the ’80s.
Their latest offering, “SUPERNOVA,” is the debut single from the forthcoming album Dark Fetish, which is set to be unveiled in December 2023.
“SUPERNOVA” is a cosmos of sound in itself—a constellation of punchy drum patterns, contemplative bass, and guitar work that spirals into the dark yet shimmering heights, all carried forward by vocals that resonate with the raw emotion of existential angst.
Described by Lopez, “SUPERNOVA” lyrically navigates the turbulent journey of emotional distress, casting a tale of love lost akin to an affliction that is felt as much in the heart as it is in the body.
The song’s lyrics offer a glimpse into a dialogue of confusion and yearning for clarity in the midst of emotional chaos:
“You seem off today Can’t tell… What do you mean? I need medication, don’t feel right Doc will see me now I’m not feeling well”
This repetitive chorus amplifies the sense of inner turmoil, encapsulating the feeling of being caught in a loop of despair.

03.11.2023 - NEBELHAUS: Hearty fare!

Sieh […]

03.11.2023 - The Bleak Assembly – Strangers Among Strangers (EP – The Bleak Assembly)

Genre/Influences: Wave-Pop, Dark-Wave.
Format: Digital.
Background/Info: One year after their debut-EP “We Become Strangers” Kimberly Kornmeier of Bow Ever Down and Michael Smith of Fiction8 are back on track unleashing their second EP -which looks like a mini-album format.
Related newsThe Bleak Assembly – We Become Strangers (EP – The Bleak Assembly)Content: The EP features 6 songs including the previously released single “Alibi”. Sound-wise the band reveals 80s influences reminding me of Electro-Wave/Pop and Dark-Wave. Guitar and synth lines create an evasive sound with Kimberly’s vocals on top.
+ + + : I especially like the debut-song “A Night Like This” which is driven by a Depeche Mode-touch. Another attention grabber is the totally vintage -80s, like “Homesick”. This duo clearly has found a true chemistry composing a darker but evasive Electro-Pop style carried by 80s influences.
– – – : The previously released single “Alibi” isn’t the best track while the second part of the EP is a little bit too dreamy for my taste.
Related newsFiction8 and Bow Ever Down members join to form The Bleak Assembly and release debut EPConclusion: The Bleak Assembly is a band with a true potential which isn’t still totally coming through.
Best songs: “A Night Like This”, “Homesick”.

03.11.2023 - The Victoriana Glimmers in the Dark With “(These) Sickly Flowers”
The atmospheric romance of The Victoriana is uniquely their own. Derek Page, the New Orleans-based artist under the name The Victoriana, wrote “(These) Sickly Flowers” during the beginning of the pandemic at Moon Palace Studios by Chris King (Cold Showers, Kaitak). As graceful as it is insistent, the track is veiled in a melancholy sweetness as guitars tangle passionately with one another. Page’s forlorn vocals are rife with yearning and a cold sorrow that don’t feel contrived—they hover weightlessly over the composition’s glimmering gloom.
The song “is a desperately ambivalent plea for self-improvement, pictured as a wicked garden watered by our darker aspects, overgrown and paradoxically attractive or repellent,” says Page. And those “darker aspects” are deeply felt in “(These) Sickly Flowers”—swimming in unfulfilment and longing, the song would fit alongside the likes of 4AD’s classic catalog, The Cult‘s more sultry work or Gene Love’s Jezebel‘s most epic.
