The British electronic rock act Neon Fields has announced a partnership with the Italian independent label Epictronic. Neon Fields frontman Ed Barrett says: “We are exhilarated to be partnering with Epictronic. Our goal is to ascend to new heights and expand our fan base. We’re confident this collaboration will be instrumental in achieving that.”

Carlo Bellotti, CEO of Epictronic, commented: “Working with Neon Fields is a thrilling prospect. Their unique sound is in perfect harmony with our vision for the future of music.”

Neon Fields’ self-titled album is slated for release on December 22, 2023. Formed in 2020, Neon Fields are a trio from southwest UK, comprising Ed Barrett, Luke Russe (drums), and Piers Ward (keyboards/guitars).

Die Post Hardcore-Band BEING AS AN OCEAN stellt ihr neues Album “Death Can Wait” mit dem Visualizer-Clip “Flesh And Bone” bei YouTube vor.

Außerderm verfügbar ist ein Video-Clip zu “Swallowed By The Earth”. Der Track beschäftigt sich mit der Suche nach dem Sinn in den Prüfungen des Leben.

Zuvor ist ein Visualizer zum Titeltrack bei YouTube erschienen. Die Formation kommentiert:

“Bei ‘Death Can Wait’ geht es darum, im Moment zu leben, ohne Beurteilung oder Angst vor den Umständen. Jeden Tag so zu nehmen, wie er kommt, und sich nicht zu sehr auf die Zukunft zu versteifen, da niemand von uns weiß, wie viel Zeit wir in diesem Leben wirklich haben. Memento Mori. Die Post-Black Metal CHROME WAVES hat nach “Father, I Wait” mit “Into the Water” eine weitere neue Single veröffentlicht. Die Stand-Alone-Singles folgen dem vor wenigen Monaten erschienenen, vierten Album “Earth Will Shed Its Skin” nach.

“Nachdem wir in den letzten Jahren jedes Jahr mindestens ein Album herausgebracht haben, wollen wir 2024 etwas anderes machen. Wir werden uns auf Singles konzentrieren und die meiste Zeit des Jahres auf die Live-Bühne zurückkehren und eine weitere LP auf 2025 verschieben”, verrät Bandgründer Jeff Wilson.

Im Jahr 2018 ernteten XASTHUR die Früchte wilder Kreativität, die gleich zwei volle Alben auf die Straßen brachte: Zuerst erschien "A Misleading Reality" und dann "Other Worlds of the Mind". Ursprünglich unter dem Namen NOCTURNAL POISONING veröffentlicht, wurden beide Langspieler später vom Künstler zum Werk seiner Hauptband hinzugefügt und entsprechend umbenannt. Obwohl sich der musikalische Ausdruck des Projekts vom Black Metal zum Acid Folk verschoben hatte, blieb dessen spirituelle Kern erhalten. XASTHUR beschrieben als akribische Chronisten die Erfahrung vieler Amerikaner, die von Menschen rund um den Globus geteilt wird, die unaufhaltsam steigenden Kosten der bloßen Existenz nicht mehr bedienen zu können und vor dem Nichts zu stehen. Alle Elemente, die XASTHUR einzigartig machen, sind auf "A Misleading Reality" vorhanden: das Bedrohliche und der Wahn, melancholisches Grübeln und das Träumerische, ebenso wie das Unheimliche und der blanke Schmerz. Es ist höchste Zeit, diesen übersehenen musikalischen Schatz wieder aus der Gosse zu heben. Daher erscheint "A Misleading Reality" erstmals auch auf Vinyl. XASTHUR wurden ursprünglich 1995 von Sänger und Multiinstrumentalist Scott Conner in Kalifornien, USA, ins Leben gerufen. Anfangs handelte es sich um ein finsteres Black Metal Projekt, das fest in der Tradition der nordischen "zweiten Welle" des Genres stand. Im Laufe von neun Alben und einer Vielzahl von Split-Singles, EPs und gelegentlichen Demos wurde XASTHURs individueller, besonders depressiver Stil innerhalb der extremen Szene sehr geschätzt. Im Jahr 2010 verkündete Scott plötzlich das Ende der Band und hob stattdessen das akustische Dark-Folk-Projekt NOCTURNAL POISONING aus der Taufe. Im Jahr 2015 kehrte der Amerikaner zum Namen XASTHUR zurück, betonte aber, dass seine Zeit als Black Metal Musiker vorbei sei. Mit "Inevitably Dark" haben XASTHUR das selbst auferlegte Tabu zuletzt teilweise gebrochen, ganz einfach weil Conner Lust auf Black Metal hatte und deshalb die selbst gesetzten Grenzen wieder fallen ließ.

Until the very end, Mars Williams continued to perform, showcasing his extraordinary talent, with his final bow taking place a mere two days after gracing the stage at the Darker Waves festival in Los Angeles. This virtuoso saxophonist, celebrated for his contributions to iconic bands such as The Psychedelic Furs and The Waitresses, departed from this world at the age of 68, succumbing to ampullary cancer. His passing marked the closing chapter of a remarkable career and a life well-lived, leaving behind a brilliant legacy.

Mars Williams has made an unforgettable contribution to the world of music by showcasing his exceptional skills with the saxophone. He has performed with many renowned artists, such as Billy Idol, the Power Station, Dirty Projectors, and The Killers, and his energetic performances have earned him a well-deserved place in musical history.

Born in 1955 in Evanston, Illinois, Williams began his musical journey in the realm of free jazz, where he showcased his prodigious talents as a member of the avant-garde NRG Ensemble. Later, he found a new home with The Waitresses, where he became a staple of the Christmas season thanks to his iconic saxophone solo. He was also immortalized in the theme song for the TV show “Square Pegs.”

From 1983 -1989 and rejoining after 2005, Williams lent his musical prowess to the Psychedelic Furs. His inclusion introduced a fresh dimension to the Furs’ sonic palette: Williams’ saxophone artistry seamlessly melded into their sound, playing a pivotal role in the Furs’ critical acclaim and commercial triumph. Williams also held the distinction of being the longest-serving member, second only to vocalist Richard Butler and bassist Tim Butler.

Williams also founded the legendary acid jazz collective known as <a href="https://www.marswilliams.com/liquid-soul">Liquid Soul</a>, which fellow saxophonist Bill Clinton enlisted to perform during his second inauguration. Williams received a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Jazz Record in 2001.

John Zorn credited Mars Williams as “one of the true saxophone players–someone who takes pleasure in the sheer act of blowing the horn. This tremendous enthusiasm is an essential part of his sound, and it comes through each note every time he plays. Whatever the situation, Mars plays exciting music. In many ways he has s쳮ded in redefining what versatility means to the modern saxophone player.”

Aside from his illustrious career as a musician and composer, Mars Williams demonstrated unwavering dedication to the realm of woodwinds and jazz improvisation education, spanning over three decades. He assumed the role of Woodwind Instructor at Bard College, where he shared his profound knowledge for a two-year tenure. Moreover, Williams conducted master classes and clinics at a range of esteemed private and public institutions, leaving an indelible mark on aspiring talents. His pedagogical influence extended to institutions such as the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, the University of Chicago, Roosevelt University in Chicago, Illinois, and the June Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art in Auburn, Alabama.

The initial diagnosis of his illness came in December 2022, a distressing revelation that prompted the launch of a GoFundMe campaign aimed at supporting the musician with his mounting medical expenses. Despite the formidable health challenges he faced, Mars Williams displayed unwavering dedication by continuing to grace the stage alongside the Psychedelic Furs.

His death was announced in a letter from his family and friends:

Dear friends,

It’s with great sadness that we send this message to let the many people who loved and supported Mars Williams know that he passed away earlier today after his year-long struggle with cancer. He was surrounded by family and friends, both in person and around the world, who held him close, and loved him dearly.

Until the end, Mars’ inexhaustible humor and energy, and his love for music, pushed him forward. As it became clear in late summer that his treatment options were coming to an end, he chose to spend six weeks of the time he had left living as he had since he was a teenager – out on the road performing night after night. Those last performances with the Psychedelic Furs will live on with all of the other incredible contributions that Mars has made as a person, and as a musician, and that boundless energy will continue to inspire.

We’ll be working to plan a celebration of life fitting for someone who was a hero to so many. We’ll send out information about that when possible.

“Waking Our Ancient Memories” wurde von Marcos Monnerat in den Stereorat Studios produziert und ist am 28. April 2023 via Wormholedeath Records erschienen.

Inspiriert wurde die Band von den apokalyptischen Prophezeiungen alter Kulturen und der Weisheit ihrer Vorfahren sowie den Wurzeln der Bandmitglieder aus Costa Rica als Ureinwohner.

Die Punk Rock-Band TEMPLETON PEK meldet sich fünf Jahre nach dem Album “Watching The World Come Undone” mit einer neuen Single zurück. Zu “Perfect Storm” haben die Briten ein Lyric-Video produziert.

Die Formation erläutert die Wahl der Comeback-Single:

“Wir haben uns für “Perfect Storm” als erste Veröffentlichung von neuem Material entschieden, da es ziemlich passend ist, wenn man bedenkt, dass wir eine Weile weg waren, und ich denke, dass sich jeder mit der Botschaft identifizieren kann, wenn man an die Ereignisse der letzten Zeit denkt.

Es geht um die Bewältigung einer Krise und darum, dass eine solche Krise auch etwas Positives sein kann und ein perfektes Werkzeug für Veränderungen. Auf der anderen Seite kann sie aber auch den Korrupten die Möglichkeit geben, ihre Vorteile zu nutzen, während sie gleichzeitig einen Deckmantel bietet, um von ihren Taten abzulenken.”

Produziert wurde “Perfect Storm” von George Perks, das Mastering übernahm Andy ‘Hippy’ Baldwin.

(Picture by Lina Gabrielli) Progress Productions has announced their latest signing, the Swedish trio Me The Tiger. “Post Denial War” is the first single to be released from the album “Envy”, expected to be released in Spring 2024.

The band members are Gabriella Åström, Jonas Martinsson, and Tobias Andersson. The electropop trio was formed in Falun in the spring of 2012 and has since released three full-length albums, a series of singles, and performed at festivals like M’era Luna (Germany), W-fest (Belgium), Eine Nacht im Bergwerk (Switzerland), Infest (England), E-Only (Germany) and electriXmas (Sweden). In 2024, they will tour in Europe, including a performance at Solitary Experiments’ 30th-anniversary festival in Berlin and their festival debut in Poland.

After they self-released their self-titled album in 2013, they were picked up by RepoRecords which released the album “Vitriolic” in September 2015. That album included the singles “What Promises Are Worth” and “As We Really Are”. In 2017 “What is beautiful never dies” followed and since then it went a bit quiet around the band until now.

Die Progressive Djent / Metalcore-Band POLYGORE hat mit “The Sky Is Grey” eine neue Single veröffentlicht. Es ist der erste Release des russischen Trios aus Moskau, dem Sängerin Alina Istomina sowie die Gitarristen Oleg Sereda und Mikhail Lyasota angehören. Gemixt und gemastert wurde der Song von Michael Pahalen.

This is something for fans of Nick Cave and related. Chicago-based artist Leon Frear presents the single “Secret Second Moon”, along with a comic strip-styled video created by French animator Ronald Grandpey. This album represents a new start for him under this moniker. Frear has a voice which somewhat recalls Marty Willson-Piper of The Church fame and his side project Nocturum.

“Secret Second Moon” is the first offering from his debut album “Wild Rice”. The album is lyrically based on his own personal experience, Frear’s speaks of love, lust, broken promises, broken phones, and multiple incinerated bridges. This 10-track collection was produced by Frear in his home studio in Chicago, playing every instrument during a recording process that took years in isolation to complete.

“I picked up my belongings, changed my name and moved to Chicago. I just wanted to get lost in the crowd. It took a decade to get sober, restore my health, sanity and put together enough equipment to make this record,” says Leon Frear. “Wild Rice is the story of those times, but told in reflection. The songs came from a place of true grief, regret and a little bit of anger. But through all of those things, I gained wisdom and became a better person. And while the details may be different, I think every human on this planet shares in the experience of feelings of grief. Ultimately, I think it is an album about empathy.”

Sonically, he was inspired to make “Wild Rice” while listening to old Leonard Cohen albums, Harvest by Neil Young, Stories from the City by PJ Harvey and lots of old ballads by Nick Cave.

As of November 21, “Secret Second Moon” is out, the album will be available from all music platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music and Bandcamp. The “Wild Rice” album will be released – on vinyl and digitally – on February 2, 2024.

Dass sich SAMURAI PIZZA CATS nach einer japanischen Zeichentrickserie der 90er Jahre benannt haben, ist sicherlich kein Zufall, lässt sich doch aus dem gesamten Projekt ein kleiner Hauch Nostalgie herauslesen. Berührungspunkte gibt es schließlich zwischen allen Bandmitgliedern, die bereits in der Vergangenheit in irgendeiner Weise zusammengearbeitet haben. ELECTRIC CALLBOY-Gitarrist Daniel Haniß spielte etwa mit Shouter Sebastian Fischer in HER SMILE IN GRIEF, der wiederum an der Seite von Drummer Stefan Buchwald in FALL OF GAIA aktiv war.

Man kennt sich also nicht erst seit gestern: ein klarer Startvorteil für das Debüt „You’re Hellcome“, das in kompakten 36 Minuten den gegenwärtigen und wohl künftigen Spielraum des Projekts absteckt. Grenzen setzt sich das Quartett dabei nur rudimentär, indem es die moderne Metalcore-Basis zwar wie so viele Acts mit zahlreichen Synthesizern anreichert, gleichzeitig jedoch nicht vor genrefremden Einflüssen zurückschreckt. Sprechgesang in „Burn“ oder „Alpha“ brechen nicht nur dank Rapperin Mrs. Nina Chartier in Letzterem mit üblichen Konventionen.

Näher als SAMURAI PIZZA CATS kann man am Pulse des Genres wohl nicht sein
Es ist nicht das einzige Feature, das gezielt Duftmarken setzen kann: Maria Lessing (FUTURE PALACE) drückt „Freakshow“ ihren Stempel auf, bevor die dort aufblitzenden Post-Hardcore-Vibes im primitiven Breakdown-Inferno von „Welcome To The Fightclub“ ganz schnell wieder ausradiert werden. Hier kommt dafür die aufgeblasene Produktion besonders zur Geltung: An Durchschlagskraft mangelt es SAMURAI PIZZA CATS zu keiner Zeit, zumal ein Riff wie in „Falling Down“ schnell einen ähnlichen Zug entwickelt, wie es das Material von Gitarrist Daniel Haniß‘ Hauptband ELECTRIC CALLBOY gerne tut.

Interessanterweise hält die Formation aber viele ihrer Experimente anfangs noch zurück: Gerade die erste Hälfte des Albums bewegt sich trotz der elektronischen Untermalung in vergleichsweise konventionellen Bahnen: Die Hit-Single „Pizza Homicide“ mit Nico Sallach (ELECTRIC CALLBOY) am Gastgesang bleibt ebenso hartnäckig im Ohr wie der Synthcore-Auftakt „The Wolf In Me“. Zwischen Nu-Metal-Anleihen („Outcast“) und Deathcore-Zitaten in der „DOOM“-Hommage „Last Player“ finden SAMURAI PIZZA CATS aber auch hier genug Wege, ihrem brachialen Sound neue Facetten abzuringen. Mag im Bandnamen also ein wenig Nostalgie mitschwingen, hält sich das eigene Schaffen kaum mit Sentimentalitäten auf. Im Gegenteil: Näher am Puls des Genres als „You’re Hellcome“ kann man derzeit wohl nicht sein.

Out via the Icy Cold label on December 1st is the 15th anniversary edition of the self-titled 2007 debut album (released on CD only) by the Swedish Postpunk band The Exploding Boy. The reissue comes completely remastered and for the first time ever available on vinyl, and including an exclusive bonus-track, “Susanne”.

This special ‘Anniversary Edition’ (coming with 1 year of delay actually) also contains a full colour vinyl-sized lyrics sheet, with lots of band-pictures from 15 years ago.

About The Exploding Boy

The band was founded in 2006 by Lars Andersson and Johan Sjöblom and named after a song by The Cure. After 3 albums on the Swedish Ad Inexplorata label (Twice a Man, Karin My, Fake Moss…), in 2013 the band signed to Drakkar/SONY, who later also re-released 2 of their previous albums.

The band’s member Johan Sjöblom also released a solo-album on Manic Depression in 2016.

The Swedish synth group Strange Tales is set to release their full-length album “Untold” on Friday, November 24th, across all streaming services. On the eve of the release, they will host a launch party and free concert at FOLK, Foajén, Järntorget in Gothenburg, Sweden. In addition to the digital release, a limited edition 6-panel digipack CD featuring extra tracks and remixes will be available. Furthermore, the album will be offered as a limited edition colored gatefold vinyl, showcasing cover art by Gothenburg artist Patrik Andiné, an alumnus of the Royal Institute of Art (1990-95).

Fans can currently pre-order “Untold” from Bandcamp, either as a digital download or on CD.

Featuring on the album is Toril Lindqvist of electroclash band Alice in Videoland, with production handled by Charles Storm of Cloudchamber Studios (known for his work with Exit North, Mando Diao, Anna Öberg, Håkan Hellström, and Henrik Berggren).

About Strange Tales

Formed in the mid-1980s, Strange Tales was born from a love for the New Romantics movement, London sojourns, 12″ vinyl records, and synth music, founded by Johan Larsson, Tobbe Lander, and Jonas Berg. Their sound is a blend reminiscent of bands like Depeche Mode, Ultravox, Human League, Visage, Duran Duran, among others. Initially playing at youth clubs, their first release was a 1985 demo cassette titled “Five Songs”. Tobbe Lander notably ran the synth club Romo Night in Gothenburg for two decades, a hub for both prominent and indie synth acts in Sweden.

After a hiatus, the band has reunited with new material. They emphasize a philosophy for their music: engaging, varied, and impactful. As they put it, “Music should evoke real emotions, mirroring life’s unscripted and unique nature. Our songs are crafted with this ethos – they’re meant to resonate deeply and authentically.”
