Fünf Jahre nach “Heathen” folgt AETERNUS` neuntes Full Length-Werk “Philosopher”. Noch immer sind Ares und seine Kumpanen aus Bergen irgendwo zwischen Black – und Death Metal unterwegs, und noch immer definieren AETERNUS diesen Genre-Zwischenraum auf ihre ganz eigene Weise. Selbst wenn die stellenweise auftretenden schnurrenden Nähmaschinen-Bassdrums grauenhaft sind (und eher auf ein PROSTITUTE DISFIGUREMENT-Album gehörten), so verraten AETERNUS ihre schwarzmetallischen Wurzeln nicht und “Philosopher” ist so fröhlich wie ein düsterer Novembertag mit Dauerregen.

Schwarzmetall aus einem Guss
“Philosopher” wirkt – ähnlich wie die Mehrheit seiner Vorgängerwerke – wie aus einem Guss. AETERNUS verzichten auf Firlefanz und schaffen die wohl dichteste Atmosphäre des Albums mit dem gar im Titel angekündigten Minimalismus: “Void of Venom” empfiehlt sich wegen seiner ruhige, semiakustischen Passagen als Anspieltipp. Als Gegenstück dazu fährt einem dann “Wresting Worm” umso mehr ein und punktet mit Abwechslungsreichtum, dissonant-stimmigen Leads und treibenden Parts. Leider melden sich, sobald AETERNUS aufs Gaspedal drücken, wieder die künstlich klingenden Bassdrums und stören die sonst so düstere, überzeugend beklemmende Atmosphäre, die AETERNUS erschaffen können. 

AETERNUS bleiben sich treu
Während viele der ursprünglichen norwegischen Black Metal-Bands verschwunden (gibts IMMORTAL noch und in welcher Form?), gestorben (Live-Shows sind keine Wiederauferstehung, EMPEROR) oder zu krass modernisiert (looking at you, ULVER) worden sind, bleiben sich AETERNUS im Vergleich doch relativ treu. Klar, die ruppigen authentischen Zeiten sind vorbei, aber “Philosopher” zeigt die Bergener als gereifte, routinierte Band. AETERNUS-Fans können bei “Philosopher” bedenkenlos zugreifen – außer die Schlagzeuger, für die es eine Triggerwarnung wegen des Bassdrumsounds braucht…

Mit “Beggar’s Hill” wird in einigen Wochen das neue Album der Heavy / Melodic Metal-Band SIX FOOT SIX erscheinen. Es ist nach “The Six Foot Six Project” (2018) und “End of All” (2020) das dritte Album des schwedischen Trios, welches aus Sänger Kristoffer Göbel (ROCK CIRCUS, Ex-FALCONER), Gitarrist Christoffer Borg (ART NATION) und Bassist Markus Gustafsson (ROCK CIRCUS) besteht. Als Session-Drummer stand der Band SNOWY SHAW (MAD ARCHITECT, Ex-KING DIAMOND, Ex-DREAM EVIL) zur Verfügung.

“Beggar’s Hill” wurde mit einem Cover-Artwork von Frode Hovde ausgestattet und wird am 8. Dezember 2023 via Scarlet Records erscheinen. Vorab gibt es nach dem Video zu “Raise The Dead” und dem Song “Fire Will Burn” mit “Tears” nun einen weiteren Video-Clip.

Die Blackened Deathcore-Band UNE MISÈRE hat einen neuen Song samt Musikvideo online gestellt: “Sever” bei YouTube.

Entnommen ist der Track der aktuellen EP “Damned”, welche der Standalone-Single “Misery Lives Forever” bei YouTube nachfolgt. Das Stück ist zugleich das erste Material seit dem Album “Sermon” (2019) und das erste mit dem neuen Fronter Rúnar Geirmundsson. Mix und Mastering stammen von Will Putney.

“Damned” ist seit 24. November 2023 digital verfügbar.

BLOODORN gründeten sich 2020, zur Besetzung der Power Metal-Band gehören neben SIRENIA-Gitarrist Nils Courbaron auch SILENT WINTER-Sänger Mike Livas, FREEDOM CALL-Bassist Francesco Saverio Ferraro und SIRENIA-Schlagzeuger Michael Brush.

Der Bandname BLOODORN geht auf zwei Begriffe zurück:  “Blôdörn”, eine Foltermethode der Wikinger, auch bekannt als “Blutadler”, und “Blood”.

Nun haben BLOODORN einen Vertrag beim Label Reaper Entertainment unterschrieben, Details zum Debütalbum sind allerdings noch nicht bekannt.

Nils Courbaron kommentiert:

“Während der ersten Welle der Pandemie hatte ich das Gefühl, dass es der richtige Zeitpunkt für mich war, meine eigene Band zu gründen. Ich wollte etwas Melodisches, Schnelles, Eingängiges und auch Brutales machen!  Bloodorn war geboren und wurde meine Priorität.  Ich war auf der Suche nach dem richtigen Label, um unser Debütalbum zu veröffentlichen, und ich bin überglücklich, mit Reaper zusammenzuarbeiten.

Today we’ll look back on a band and a certain moment in their musical history, often recalling things which many have forgotten (you can’t remember everything). We start with the pre-Depeche Mode song “Television Set”, which was never released officially.

The reason it never ended up on an official release was because it was originally written by fellow Basildon resident Jason Knott and not by Vince Clarke. Knott, who was also a member of The Neatelllls together with drummer Peter Hobbs, would sometimes rehearse with Clarke. And that’s when Vince got to hear the song, like dis and included it in the live set of Depeche Mode and on several demos. Kinda weird since he later on would refuse to have it released on an official Depeche Mode release. Back then the song was a fan favourite though, which probably pushed Clarke to shop around to labels with a demo including a track he hadn’t written in the first place.

Here’s a snippet of the song on Composition Of Sounds’ first demo tape. You can hear Vince Clarke singing the lead vocals (Dave Gahan had not joined the band yet).

The track would still be played live though, from the 1980 Tour through the 1982 See You Tour (even as their opening number for a while in 1981).

Here’s a live version live at the Croc’s Glamour Club in Rayleigh back in 1981.

The track, together with other non-released songs would in the end be recorded for an official release by the band Coming Back To You in 1998. On that album (which is available here) they also recorded “Addiction”, “Reason Man” and “Tomorrows Dance” next to versions of “I Like It” (Gerry & The Pacemakers) and “The Price Of Love” (Everly Brothers), covers that Depeche Mode would occasionally perform live.

Die Italiener zelebrieren auf ihrem Zweitwerk eine gelungene Mischung aus Dark, Doom, Goth Metal und puristischem Dark Wave und liegen irgendwo in der Schnittmenge zwischen My Dying Bride (Musik) sowie Vintersorg und The Wounded (Gesang). Ihre dunklen Hymnen sind gekennzeichnet von tiefmelancholischen, latent verträumten und durchdringenden, elegischen Klängen. „AbyssUs“ taucht in das Scheitern des Lebens ein und ist damit der zweite Teil einer Trilogie, welche mit „Away from Light“ begann.

Mit einem gewissen Liebreiz und einer bekannten Melodielinie eröffnet „To mourn the shade of your love“ dieses wundervolle Werk. Ein lavaartiger Moloch voller gediegener Hoffnungslosigkeit ergießt sich in das trauernde Ohr des geneigten Hörers. Das Fließen der „schwarzen Galle“ ist formvollendet und berührt. Man, also diejenigen, die nicht tagtäglich ihre Fröhlichkeit zur Schau stellen müssen, werden diese fesselnde Musik dazu benutzen, sich des Abends damit zuzudecken. Verführerische Goth-Rock Saiten stehen zu Beginn von „Stains“, welches fortan druckvoll, dennoch mit einer sphärischen Note versehen, welche die Dunkelheit facettenreich thronen lässt. Die weibliche Ergänzung hinterm Mikro kommt von Yasmin Kalach. Ihre weiche Stimme gibt dem dunklen Gesamtbild eine durchdringende Zerbrechlichkeit. Dieses Spiel mit Liebreiz, Energie und einer in sich zerfallenen düsteren Eleganz macht dieses betörende Kleinod zu einem wahren Earcatcher.

„Post you“ ist wesentlich getragener und beherbergt in jeder Faser die Träne. Insgesamt eine berührende Ballade, dessen Trauerflor in jeder Zeile des Textes zum Mahnmal eines gescheiterten Lebens gereicht. Das ruhige, in tiefer Trauer watende „Anatomical machine“ begeistert mit einer gefühlvollen Darbietung der Tragik. Die Instrumentierung ist dezent, in Phasen fragil und genau dieses Elixier der Schwermut ist das berührende Element, welches gänsehautartig durch die Gefäßwindungen des Körpers schleicht. Das Leiden der Stimme von Valerio Granieri ist mit jeder Faser spürbar. Wunderschön, wie sich eine weibliche Stimme der dunklen Umarmung hingibt. Die Saiten schreien dazu mit einer unglaublichen Bewunderung. Das folgende „Sedatives“ nimmt die Stimmung auf, wobei die Saiten etwas schneidender in des Harmonie versunkenen Wehklangs eindringen. Das in seiner bedrückenden Eleganz ausufernde „A Tomb Beyond the Furthest Star“ wird durch die Stimme von Alexander Högbom (October Tide) unterstützt, der mit seinen Growls eine ganz eigene Facette in die phobischen Klänge einfügt. Als perfekter, kongenialer Partner liefern sich die beiden Protagonisten hinterm Mikro eine Zweisamkeit, dessen Zerrissenheit mal galant, mal verspielt und mal exzessiv auf den Punkt gebracht daherkommt. Der übermächtige, 9minütige Rausschmeißer „The dissonant“ wird mit einer balladesken Klaviersonate intoniert. Der Gesang hingebungsvoll, leicht unterdrückt aber mit einer Vehemenz der Traurigkeit dargeboten, die nicht nur berührt, sondern messerscharf unter die linke Brusthälfte schneidet.

Fazit: Ein wundervolles Werk, welches sowohl in seiner Schönheit, als auch in seiner düsteren Eleganz thront. Herrliche, doomige Melodielinien, leidende Gesänge, betörende Eleganz. Perfekt zusammengefügt und in seiner Ganzheit glänzend wie ein frisch gewaschener Leichenwagen. (andreas)

Die Stoner Rock-Band DISASTROID hat mit “Garden Creatures” ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist das vierte Album des US-amerikanischen Trios aus San Francisco, das aus Gitarrist und Sänger Enver Koneya, Bassist Travis Williams sowie Drummer Braden McGaw besteht.

“Garden Creatures”, das von Billy Anderson in den Sharkbite Studios produziert worden ist, sei ein Album über die Dunkelheit in den verborgenen Ecken der Vorstadt und wird am 23. Februar 2024 via Heavy Psych Sounds erscheinen. Vorab gibt es den Song “Stucco Nowhere” zu hören.

These attacks, often phishing attempts, use deceptive messages claiming that the victim’s Facebook page is “scheduled for deletion” due to alleged violations of community guidelines.

Here are some examples of messages that landed our inbox in the past few days, and were even sent via notification emails by Facebook itself.

By clicking this button, a form is opened where users are asked to enter personal information, such as login email addresses, phone numbers, names, and page names. The information submitted falls into the hands of scammers, who can then pose as Facebook officials and mislead users into providing their login details. This gives the scammers access to the victim’s Facebook account and their fan pages, or they can use the information for other scams, such as identity theft. Sometimes they will also ask for credit card details to ‘verify’ your identity.

Furthermore, there is a chance that they will try to install keylogger software on your computer. A keylogger is a program that can record a computer user’s keystrokes to even mouse movements. This way, they try to steal personal information, often passwords and usernames or credit card numbers.

What can you do to prevent these phishing attempts?

To prevent such phishing scams, we advise you to pay special attention to the web address; a legitimate Facebook official page should always start with facebook.com, if you see a different URL, then delete the message. Also, always contact Facebook directly for help instead of using links from others.

The following preventive measures are best taken:

Be cautious with links: Do not click on suspicious links, especially in messages claiming to be from Facebook and threatening page deletion.

Enable two-factor authentication: This adds an extra layer of security to your account.

Be critical: Be careful with unsolicited messages or emails that require action, such as clicking on links or providing personal information.

Update your privacy settings: Adjust your privacy settings to control who can see your messages and contact you.

Inform yourself: Stay informed about the latest scam methods and inform your team or co-administrators of your page on how to recognize and prevent them.

Limit the number of administrators of your Facebook page. Only those with sufficient knowledge should have access.

What can you do if your Facebook Page account was actually hacked?

The social media agency FOX DS has been contacted several times by page owners who are at their wits’ end when their page was hacked. They say clearly that “prevention is better than cure, as success is absolutely not guaranteed.” However, it is very important to act quickly to limit the damage.

First, you must seek help from Facebook to get your page back. This is not easy, as the help pages are quite hidden. Here are some steps (and links) you need to take to regain access:

Change your password: If you still have access to your account, change your password immediately. This helps prevent the scammers from further controlling your account.

Report the hacking to Facebook: Use the Facebook Hacked account report to report this incident and this Business support page to try to regain access to your page. Facebook offers a process to help you regain control of your account. Be aware, there is no guarantee that this will work.

Recover your account: Follow Facebook’s instructions for account recovery. This may include answering security questions or providing identification documents.

Check your account settings: After you have regained access, check your account settings to ensure that no suspicious changes have been made.

Contact your network: Inform your friends and followers about the breach and warn them not to interact with suspicious messages that may have been sent from your account.

Doppelband mit A.S. LaVeys Büchern „Des Teufels Notizbuch“ und „Jetzt spricht Satan!“

Eine Sammlung von über 100 unorthodoxen, paradoxen und humorvollen Texten des am meisten missverstandenen Mannes Amerikas. Der berühmt-berüchtigte Begründer und Hohepriester der Church of Satan äußert sich in diesem Buch zu so vielschichtigen Themen wie Nonkonformität, okkulte Modeerscheinungen, erotische Politik, die Schaffung eines künstlichen menschlichen Gefährten, aber auch zu solchen bislang ungelösten Lebensfragen, warum das Telefon immer klingelt, wenn man auf Toilette ist.
Die letzten Beiträge wurden von Anton Szandor LaVey erst einige Tage vor seinem Tod am 29. Oktober 1997 fertig gestellt. Mit einem Vorwort von Marilyn Manson.

The XRAY5’s roots can be traced back to the Los Angeles post-punk scene, where their members honed their skills in bands like Idle Hands and Nobody’s Heroes. At the group’s helm stands Ray Arroyo, a multifaceted artist who serves as the founding member, lending his talents as a singer, songwriter, guitarist, and keyboardist. Collaborating alongside him is his songwriting partner, Kerry Lambert, who assumes the role of bassist.

Their journey took a significant turn in 2018 when they embarked on the recording and release of an extended single aptly titled “GRAVITY.” Guided by a seasoned producer, the group transitioned to a cleaner sonic palette while still preserving the evocative ambiance of the 1980s, a hallmark of their signature sound. Notably, Ray Arroyo’s encounter with Twin Tribes during a performance in Los Angeles initiated a pivotal connection. This fortuitous meeting led to discussions about their recordings, and eventually led to a crucial referral to San Antonio musician Charlie Vela.

Now, they have unleashed Elegy, an 8-song LP reminiscent of the sound of The Editors, Psychedelic Furs, Echo & The Bunnymen, and even a little Wang Chung for good measure.

In the opening track, “Boston,” the album delves into the profound sense of isolation and loneliness that can pervade even the most crowded spaces, articulating the weighty burden of such feelings. This song sets the stage for a quest for solace and strength to combat the deep-seated loneliness that preys upon the mind.

Next, “Your Memory” brings forth a contemplative mood, evoking the poignant presence of a love lost. The imagery of a spectral figure under the moonlight captures a relationship that was once intimidating but now exists only in the past. The song is imbued with a yearning, as whispers of the wind and lingering memories create an atmosphere of longing for something just out of reach.”Obsession” follows, painting a portrait of a love that is intense and all-consuming, yet fleeting. It speaks to the ephemeral nature of passion, where the muse of daylight hours slips away with the setting sun, leaving a sense of loss in its wake.

In “Slither,” the album takes a turn, expressing regret and disillusionment within a relationship. The song’s repetitive chorus underscores a yearning to escape and move forward, portraying a sense of burden and a desperate need to break free from the current entanglements. “Dark Star” then shifts the focus to a deep desire for a meaningful connection. The lyrics reflect a yearning to be indispensable, cherished, and followed. The song explores themes of seeking personal growth, aspiring to rise above deceit and frailty, and the quest for enduring relevance. “In The Name of the Cross” is rich with historical allusions, painting a vivid tableau of conquest and conflict. References to a holy figure promising salvation and conquistadors brandishing swords offer a critical commentary on historical narratives driven by specific agendas.

The album’s penultimate track, “Lonely Place,” resonates with feelings of uncertainty and isolation. Exploring themes of deceit and betrayal, the song touches on the emptiness and ennui experienced in caring for someone who is absent, painting a melancholic picture of abandonment and unfulfilled desire. Concluding the album, “Miles Away” eloquently captures a deep sense of yearning, regret, and nostalgia for a love that is no longer present. The song poignantly articulates the emotional pain of separation, weaving together images of starlit longing and the bittersweet traces of memories left behind.

Elegy by The XRAY5

During the pandemic, The XRAY5’s Ray Arroyo had the opportunity to focus on songwriting and recording with an unprecedented intensity. This led to a substantial body of work, culminating in the release of the band’s first album, INVERSE, in December 2020. While some of the tracks were produced by Charlie Vela, a significant portion was meticulously self-produced. The album was well-received across various musical circles, earning admiration from listeners far and wide.

Over the following months, Ray came up with the idea of creating a short concert film that would capture the essence of the band. In May 2021, this vision became a reality when they collaborated with Matthew Knox from The Antennae to record a live performance. To enhance the ensemble for this special event, Ray enlisted the talents of drummer Jason Wise and guitarist Rick Marz. The experience was immensely gratifying, prompting Rick to make a full-time commitment to The XRAY5. Following this collective enthusiasm, they treated fans to a captivating rendition of the Psychedelic Furs classic, “Love My Way.”

In July of 2022, The XRAY5 unveiled their poignant EP titled Requiem, a heartfelt tribute to Ray’s late mother, who had passed away just a month prior.

In “Die Satanische Bibel” fasst Anton Szandor LaVey seine Erkenntnisse und Überzeugungen zum Thema Satanismus zusammen, die er im Laufe seines ungewöhnlichen Lebenswegs als Orgelspieler, Löwenbändiger, Kriminologe, Schauspieler, Magier und durch das umfangreiche Studium der dunklen Künste erworben hat.

Neben den 9 satanischen Grundsätzen und philosophischen Gedanken Anton Szandor LaVeys zu den Themen Liebe, Hass, Sex und Tod enthält das Buch zahlreiche praktische Anregungen für das Alltagsleben, wie den Umgang mit psychischen Vampiren oder das Gesetz des Dschungels.

Der zweite Teil des Doppelbandes enthält das Buch “Die Satanischen Rituale” von Anton Szandor LaVey, mit Beispielen von Ritualen aus verschiedenen Kulturkreisen. Diese sind in der jeweiligen Originalsprache abgedruckt und durch Erläuterungen über ihre Entstehung, den historischen Hintergrund und ihren Zweck ergänzt. .

Der Doppelband enthält zahlreiche Photos von LaVey, die seine facettenreiche Persönlichkeit anschaulich widerspiegeln.

Die Symphonic Metal-Band BEYOND GOD hat mit “The Great Divide” ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist nach “A Moment of Black” (2016) und “Dying to Feel Alive” (2017) das dritte Album der Holländer, die dazwischen mit “All Strings Attached” auch ein Akustik-Album veröffentlicht haben. Erscheinen wird das neue Album am 8. Dezember 2023 via Wormholedeath. Vorab gibt es nach den Video-Clips zu  “Frostbite” und “Aphantasia” sowie dem Track “Coronation” mit “A Siren’s Cry” nun einen weiteren Song zu hören.

This album is an expression of my own inability to find meaning or purpose in life. And the utter disdain and emotional distraught that comes from the accumulation of living like that year, after year, after year. With this album I’ve managed to turn something that is for all intents and purposes destroying me, and created what is without any doubt in my mind, the greatest accomplishment of my life. I don’t know if there is going to be anymore Binary Order after this. Finishing this album felt like an impossibility at one point, and now it’s done I feel like I am too. I hope anyone who listens to this can find something of value for within it. If not then I just appreciate having this platform to express myself in this way because it has kept me alive.”

Die Black Metal-Band A/ORATOS hat einen Labeldeal bei Les Acteurs de l’Ombre Productions unterschrieben. Im Zuge dessen werden die Franzosen ihr neues Album “Ecclesia Gnostica” veröffentlichen. Es ist das erste Album der Pariser, die 2019 mit der EP “Epignosis” debütierten und mit ihrer Musik die Materialität und spirituelle Nichtigkeit unserer zeitgenössischen Gesellschaft bekämpfen möchten.

“Ecclesia Gnostica” wurde von Frédéric Gervais im Sudio Henosis gemixt und gemastert und mit einem Cover-Artwork von Vincent Fouquet ausgestattet. Erscheinen wird das Album am 19. Januar 2024.

Fünf Jahre sind seit dem letzten VARATHRON-Album “Patriarchs of Evil” ins Land gezogen. Untätig war das griechische Black Metal-Urgestein indes nicht, in der Zwischenzeit warfen VARATHRON diverse Splits und Box-Sets plus ein Live-Album auf den Markt. Doch 2023 ist es wieder Zeit für neues Material und somit für das siebte Full Length-Album “The Crimson Temple”. Das Artwork befriedigt Gelüste nach dem typischen Griechen-Okkultismus, bei der Produktion setzen VARATHRON auf Transparenz und haben ihre uralten Pfade definitiv hinter sich gelassen. 

Treibender Black Metal ohne Schwulst
Genre-technisch bleiben VARATHRON ihren neueren Zeiten (ab dem 2005er-Album “Crowsreign”) treu. Anders als ihre Landsmänner von SEPTIC FLESH oder ROTTING CHRIST verzichten VARATHRON auf eine allzu krasse Erneuerungskur und liefern lieber treibenden Black Metal ohne Schwulst. Ihre typischen hellenischen Black Metal-Melodien, die sie schon seit “Walpurgisnacht” hinkriegen, tauchen in “Crypts of the Mist” oder “Sinners of the Crimson Temple” dezent auf und machen die Songs direkt zu Anspieltipps. Es sind auch diese Songs, die einen in Erinnerungen an ROTTING CHRIST in den Neunzigerjahren schwelgen lassen – da ist dann eben dieser eigentümliche Charme am Werk, den VARATHRON bewusst einsetzen und nicht totproduzieren. 

Fans können zugreifen
VARATHRON gelingt mit “The Crimson Temple” ein zeitgemässes griechisches Black Metal-Werk. In “Immoralist Regnum Diaboli” gibts etwas mehr Experimentierfreude und Abwechslungsreichem, aber VARATHRON lassen dies nicht die düstere Atmosphäre dominieren. Fans der Truppe können wie immer bedenkenlos zugreifen, Genre-Enthusiasten bekommen ein gutes, atmosphärisch dichtes Album. Läuft.

Die Power / Symphonic Metal-Band EVERDAWN hat nach dem Lyric-Video zu “Cassiopeia” mit dem Video-Clip zu “Century Black” eine zweite Single von ihrem kommenden Album “Venera” veröffentlicht. Es ist nach “Everdawn” und “Cleopatra” das dritte Album der US-Amerikaner aus New Jersey.

“Venera” wurde von Jacob Hansen produziert und wird am 8. Dezember 2023 via Frontiers Music erscheinen.

Mit einem Clip zu “Death Is But A Door” präsentieren ALLUVIAL den zweiten Song ihrer neuen EP. Die trägt ebenfalls den Titel “Death Is But A Door” und erscheint am 12. Januar 2024.

Den ersten Vorgeschmack gab es bereits mit dem Video zu ‘Bog Dweller‘.

Mit der EP wollen ALLUVIEL die Lücke zwischen dem letzten Album “Sarcoma” und der nächsten Full Length-Platte schließen, erklärt Gitarrist Wes Hauch:

“Wir haben diesen Sommer etwa 13 oder 14 Songs geschrieben, aber wir wollten diese EP zwischen Sarcoma und unserem nächsten Album machen. Diese Songs passen zu dem Vibe, den wir anstreben. Wir werden immer einen Weg finden, von Platte zu Platte dunkler zu werden, so wie ‘South of Heaven’ härter war als ‘Reign In Blood’ und ‘Seasons In The Abyss’ härter war als ‘South Of Heaven’.”
