Related newsThe dark atmospheric synthpop act IIOIOIOII is back with an all new 3-track single 'Frozen Sea'Content: Chris Gurney remains faithful to his dark format of Electro-Pop music. The sound remains pretty evasive, spiced with a melancholic touch and some carrying choruses.
+ + + : There’s a noticeable improvement in the global writing- and production process of this work. IIOIOIOII (pronounced ‘eye o’) became more mature while holding on its original influences. I like the darkness and melancholia of the songs but I especially recommend listening to “Until I’m Free” and “Carousel”.

Since then, the band has become a leading force in the industrial music scene. KMFDM’s sound is characterized by heavy metal guitar riffs mixed with electronic beats and both male and female vocals. Their music covers a range of genres, including industrial rock, electronic body music, and reggae and dub elements. KMFDM is known for their uncompromising political commentary, with lyrics that take a stand against violence, war, and oppression, making strong statements through their art.
KMFDM’s early work began in Germany, but their move to the USA marked a significant change. Signing with Chicago’s influential Wax Trax! label led to increased recognition. The 90s saw the band continually evolve, with a dynamic roster of members, establishing them as a prominent name in the US music scene. Their reach extended from climbing the Billboard charts to inclusion in soundtracks for major films like “Bad Boys” and “Mortal Kombat,” highlighting their broad impact.
Rising from the ashes with a fresh, fierce ferocity, KMFDM storms into their 40th year with LET GO, their 23rd studio album. Sascha “Käpt’n K” Konietzko, Lucia Cifarelli, Andy Selway, and Andee Blacksugar, the core powerhouse of the group, deliver an electrifying blend of pulse-pounding rhythms, scorching electronics, and blistering guitars. Vocals laden with grit, growl, and grind cut through the mix, offering a raw commentary on the social, political, and cultural turmoil swirling in today’s world. 02.02.2024 - Argentinian Darkwave Artist Lux Mala Debuts Video for Bittersweet Single “Vamos a la luz”

“Dedicada a personas que fueron muy importantes en mi vida pero con las que fue necesario cortar lazos para ver la luz”
Ending ties with someone you deeply care about is one of life’s most heart-wrenching decisions. It’s akin to standing at a crossroads, where the path of personal growth diverges sharply from the comfort of shared memories and affection. This process often feels like a delicate dance of grieving and acceptance, a silent acknowledgment that love, in its many forms, sometimes demands the ultimate sacrifice for the sake of individual evolution. There’s an overwhelming sense of loss in the aftermath; a mourning for the future that will never come to pass with this person by your side. It’s a bittersweet realization that sometimes, love means stepping away so that both people can seek their fullest potential, even if that journey must begin apart.
This feeling is distilled in the video for Vamos A La Luz, a song from Argentinian artist Lux Mala. Within this gorgeous darkwave track, she dwells in the quiet aftermath of this kind of farewell, sitting in the space allowing for reflection and growth. These memories serve as reminders that relationships, in their beginning and ending, are profound teachers. The decision to part ways, though it may be draped in the immediate pain of goodbye, is ultimately a courageous step toward embracing the unknown and rediscovering oneself.
“Vamos a la luz,” translating to “Let’s go to the Light” in English, weaves a tale through its Spanish lyrics, capturing moments where words fall short in a drama tinged with minimalism. The track’s rhythm, driven by danceable electronic drums and complemented by a mellow, yet vibrant bass, is layered with continuous waves of synthesizers. Real strings eventually join, elevating the piece to its zenith, symbolizing the journey towards finding light at the end of a tunnel, all set to a backdrop that invites you to move with the music.
“It’s the first time I’ve released a brand new song in Spanish, and I felt a great relief to be able to get those feelings out of me,” singer Nathalie Astrada says. “This song is my way to making up with people that are not in my life anymore, people that I love but for some reason had to cut our ties, to see the light, feel better with my life, with myself, and to move forward…Although I like to wander around in the dark poetically, sometimes it is difficult to realize when a person you love is hurting you. Love blinds us. Love confuses us. Sometimes it is unconscious, sometimes it is not. That is why you should take care of yourself first, never let your guard down.”
This video, captured in the winter ambiance of Málaga, Spain, illustrates the pain of solitude. Nathalie took a step back from the limelight to assume the role of director, wielding the camera with a keen eye for detail. Valle Gren stars as the central figure, illuminated by the festive lights that adorn Málaga’s streets during the Christmas and New Year celebrations, adding a poignant contrast to the theme of loneliness.
“Personally, I enjoy more to be behind the camera,” admits Astrada. “I like to take care of every single detail and reshoot the scenes as many times that is needed until it is perfect. Even when I know I’m an amateur filmmaker, with limited skills and tools, it makes me happy to put the images I have in mind into my songs.”
Watch the video for “Vamos a la Luz” below:
In an era marred by disillusionment, where the vestiges of purity and benevolence struggle to assert themselves amid the prevailing tumult, Nathalie Astrada has found a resonant voice. Her work as Lux Mala is tinged with a stark realism that borders on the pessimistic: a poignant testament to the contemporary condition. It is a solitary cry in the night, seeking to unearth beauty in the most shadowed corners of existence. In her narratives, there is an exploration of a paradoxical relief found within suffering, and a robust affirmation of rebellion as a conduit for strength. Astrada’s reflections offer a mirror to a world grappling with its own complexities, providing a canvas where the sombre and the sublime intertwine.
Based in Spain, her work reflects the complexities of her native Argentina, emphasizing themes of harshness and nonconformity. She independently produces her music and videos, maintaining creative control. In 2022, Nathalie released her debut album “Lux Mala” and three singles, followed by an EP in late 2022. She continues to evolve artistically, with new songs on the horizon. Pablo Abatte was the Audio Engineer for Lux Mala.

02.02.2024 - Dark Synth Artist Profit Prison Returns in The Video for “Sophia”

Four years have elapsed since the release of Profit Prison’s enigmatic “Dreams Of A Dark Building“ EP, and now, in the wake of a global pandemic, the elusive figure at the forefront of dungeon synth emerges once more from his metaphorical sepulchre. For Parker Lautenschlager, the Seattle-based virtuoso behind the solo venture, the interceding years have been anything but kind.
The capricious nature of existence has left its mark, compelling him to pour his heart into the very essence of his music.
In “Gilt,” Profit Prison’s first full-length venture, he delves deeper into the enigmatic realms of Italo and hi-NRG body music. Within this audacious exploration, the core elements that epitomize Profit Prison—such as evocative vocals and melodies that echo the groundbreaking work of synth forebears—are masterfully woven into the music, setting the stage for an otherworldly dance experience.
The lead single from the album, “Sophia,” stands out with its lush Moroder-inspired bassline and Kraftwerk-like sirens and sprechstimme. The combination, feeling at times like a delicious mashup of Trans-Europe Express and the theme to Midnight Express, creates a striking contrast between its enigmatically veiled vocals and an ethereal chorus that tantalizingly promises renewal, only to reveal a lament of total loss. The song is rich with introspection and desire, capturing a longing for freedom, a place to call home, and meaningful connections, all while acknowledging the ephemeral nature of dreams and the poignancy of loss.
The eerie, lo-fi video was directed, filmed and edited by Jesy Fortino aka Tiny Vipers. The ambiance it conjures is akin to navigating through a surreal dream, where reality is turned on its head, and everything encountered is a mirror image or a shadow of something else. This landscape is characterized by inversions that upend the familiar, reflections that distort perceptions, and projections that cast forth images from the depths of the subconscious. In this realm, the boundaries between the tangible and the imagined blur.
Watch the video for “Sophia” below:
Parker has expanded the temporal scope of his compositions in his recent work, with the majority of tracks now extending to five minutes and culminating in the seven-minute finale of “A.R.P. (Amphetamine Research Project).” This closing piece, an almost progressive disco jam, evokes the essence of a lucid dream set against the backdrop of Studio 54’s legendary dance floor, blending the ethereal with the electric.

02.02.2024 - Fatalism and Decay — Dark Post-Punk Duo TIT Make Their Debut with “Dust”

All the dreams you put on me
Hide beneath your modesty
Too late to trust
We all turn to dust
“Ashes to ashes, dust to dust” is a phrase from the Anglican Book of Common Prayer burial service. It echoes the words from Genesis 3:19, signifying the transient nature of the human condition. The phrase implies that humans are made from dust, and to dust they will return upon death, highlighting the cycle of life and death and the belief in the physical body’s return to the earth after life has ended. It’s often used to acknowledge the inevitability of death and the belief in a humble human origin and end – the perfect subject matter for longtime post-punk collaborators Shawn Foree (Digital Leather) and Bobby Hussy (Wristwatch, The Hussy and Whippets) performing together as TIT.
“Dust is a long long time coming,” muses Hussy. “We recorded a demo of this about 8 years ago and played it in Omaha at the classic watering hole O’Leaver’s around that time. That’s back when we were a four piece featuring Todd Fink from The Faint on synth, Noah Kohll from Surf Curse and Color Green on drums, Shawn Foree on synth and vocals, and myself on guitar, synth and vocals. We’ve since re-tracked it entirely and it finally came to life properly.”
The song, channeling Thomas Dolby, Legendary Pink Dots, Soft Cell, Suicide, and The Soft Moon alike, is a darkly infectious gem. The lyrics express a narrative of betrayal and the inevitability of decay, highlighting themes of insincerity, desire, and the ultimate futility of these emotions. The repetition of “We all turn to dust” underscores the transient nature of life and relationships, suggesting that despite the intensity of feelings and the impact of others’ actions, everything eventually fades away.
Listen to “Dust” below:
TIT by TIT
The debut LP from TIT, ten years in development, showcases the dynamic exchange of deep vocals between its leading members, underscored by darkwave electronics and intricate synthesizers. The album also boasts a notable collaboration with Conor Oberst of Bright Eyes, who brings his distinctive voice to the industrial rock track “MGBF.” TIT initially emerged on the scene with a four-track EP in 2013, jointly released by Volar Records and FDH Records.
TIT’s self-titled debut LP is out on April 5, 2024.

02.02.2024 - Kai Kaldro Debuts Industrial Rock Anthem “His Girl Friday The 13th”

You’re not up on your private eye literature.
When they’re in trouble, it’s always their
Girl Friday who gets them out of it…
His Girl Friday The 13th emerges as a compelling narrative spun by Kai Kaldro, a burgeoning talent in the New York City rock scene. This track, the third single from his debut album Post Coital, Pre Mortem, follows the release of the titular track and Redial For Remnants.
Kaldro’s latest industrial metal anthem, in the vein of classic tracks by luminaries such as KMFDM and My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult, has carved its niche within the horror film soundscape, securing spots in the soundtracks of several eagerly anticipated films. Notably, Kaldro will share the screen in THE FARMHOUSE MURDERS alongside esteemed actors such as Larry Hankin and Marlon Taylor, and in SKATE TO HELL featuring Lorelei Linklater.
In a fashion akin to his previous singles, Kaldro’s lyrics in His Girl Friday The 13th offer a satirical take on the opulence of the golden age of Hollywood and film noir, intertwined with anachronistic elements of horror, gothic, and heavy metal. His vocal prowess spans a broad range, from a “1940s Betty Boop falsetto” to a guttural metallic baritone, illustrating a gender-fluid narrative reminiscent of Norman Bates’ split personality in Psycho. This duality is further emphasized in Kaldro’s visual representation, notably in the music video for Post Coital, Pre Mortem.
The song’s lyrics weave a narrative that delves into themes of duality, seduction, and the macabre underbelly of Hollywood glamour. Through references to classic private eye literature and film noir, Kaldro crafts a world where the archetypal ‘Girl Friday’—the dependable assistant who rescues her boss from various predicaments—becomes a central figure in a twisted tale of sin and salvation. The repeated motifs of corsets, evil twins, and full moons evoke a sense of Gothic horror intertwined with the allure of forbidden desires and the duality of human nature.
Kaldro’s lyrical prowess shines as he juxtaposes the glamorous facade of Hollywood with its darker, more sinister aspects. Lines like “I am your red velvet sado-suicide” and “Fishnets hide my franken-stitches” paint a vivid picture of a world where beauty and horror coexist, and where the glitz and glamour of the silver screen mask a more troubling reality. The chorus’s catchy “win-win sin-sin” encapsulates the song’s playful yet dark tone, suggesting that in this world, indulging in one’s darker impulses is not just accepted but celebrated.
The song’s raucous climax, with its references to the vanity of Academy Awards, critiques Hollywood’s superficiality and the often arbitrary nature of success and recognition in the entertainment industry. Kaldro’s use of horror and noir elements pays homage to these genres and serves as a metaphor for the masks we wear and the roles we play in the pursuit of fame and validation.
As Kai explains:
“I first heard the term “His Girl Friday” at age 11 when I discovered one of my all time favorite films, Alfred Hitchcock’s REAR WINDOW, as Grace Kelly uses it while bantering with Jimmy Stewart about the efficacy of private detective ethics… It was so sexy, with such mystique and was an indicator of all the things that were being repressed and concealed by that hypocritical old stodgy-assed Hollywood Hays Code. I always knew I was gonna grow up to debauch that visage with paranormal rock n roll extortion.”
Listen below or via Spotify here:
In His Girl Friday The 13th, Kai Kaldro delivers a sonic exploration that is as much a critique of Hollywood’s golden era as it is a homage to its stylistic and thematic elements. The song’s lyrics, rich with references to film noir and private eye literature, paint a vivid picture of a world where the lines between hero and villain, savior and seducer, are blurred. Kaldro’s unique vocal style, which oscillates between a haunting falsetto and a powerful baritone, adds layers of complexity to the narrative, inviting listeners to delve into the murky depths of Hollywood’s glamorous façade.
The track’s inclusion in the soundtracks of upcoming horror films further cements Kaldro’s position as a musician capable of bridging the gap between music and cinema, creating an immersive experience that transcends traditional genre boundaries. With His Girl Friday The 13th, Kaldro not only showcases his musical prowess but also his ability to weave intricate narratives that resonate with listeners and viewers alike.
As Kaldro continues to make waves in both the music and film industries, it’s clear that his work is not just an artistic expression but a commentary on the dualities that define our cultural landscape. Through his music, Kaldro invites us to question the narratives we’ve been sold and to look beyond the surface of the stories we tell.
In an era where art and entertainment are often seen as separate entities, Kaldro’s His Girl Friday The 13th stands as a testament to the power of creative fusion, challenging us to rethink the boundaries of genre and the role of the artist in society.

02.02.2024 - Beware of the Spider’s Kiss — Montreal Darkwave Outfit Sexsomnia Debut Video for “Nigrum Viduam”

RELEASE THE POISON
YOUR HEART BEATING FASTER
NO ANTIDOTE WILL SET YOU FREE
INJECT YOUR VENOM
In the sultry underworld of Montreal, SEXSOMNIA spins a web of intrigue with their latest track, a seductive ode to the Nigrum Viduam or “black widow.” This creature, notorious for its lethal kiss and the dark romance of its mating rituals, becomes a metaphor for a dangerous liaison, a fetishistic flirtation with the fatal. The song bearing this dangerous name weaves a hypnotic tale of venomous love, where the thrill of peril and the allure of the forbidden entwine in an ancient dance. With each pulsating beat and haunting lyric, SEXSOMNIA captures the essence of being ensnared in a toxic embrace, where the quest for liberation is as elusive as the intoxicating promise of love itself.
This subject is nothing new to SEXSOMNIA, who have already long ventured into the shadowy world of parasomnia. Their name refers to the hidden desires that stir in the night, more intense than related conditions like sleepwalking. This phenomenon blurs the lines between consciousness and unconsciousness, prompting a deep exploration of the self amidst a Freudian backdrop. With this outfit, Philip Faith (WESTERNDREAM, Rise of the Fallen, Hotel Noir) has crafted a unique musical endeavour. SEXSOMNIA melds electrobeats, analogue synths, ethereal soundscapes, and female vocals, distinctively featuring dual live bass guitars. Bassist Pat Gaudette (Unruled, Hexapheen, and NowFuture) and Michael Rien (Earth Chronicles, Special Ops) round out the band’s sound.
With Nigrum Vuduam, corrosive basses, pounding dance-floor beats, baritone guitar, melodious bass lines, and dark atmospheres channel The Cure, Giorgio Moroder, Propaganda, Trentemøller, Joy Division, Ladytron, V.A.C, and David Lynch her superb make-up and stylist skills for the video.

02.02.2024 - NYC Dark Synth Pop Artist Ronnie Stone Debuts Video for Title Track From New Album “Ride Again” — Plus Tour Dates

Ronnie Stone carves a unique path, merging the comforting echoes of the past with the crisp edge of the future. A stalwart of the New York City music scene, Stone showcases his extensive production and musicianship skills from the depths of a hidden studio, surrounded by a collection of quintessential ’80s synthesizers. In this enclave, he produces tracks that balance the energy of dance anthems with the depth of introspective tunes, each a shining example in the realm of dance-pop, resonating with the essence of both the flamboyant and the reflective.
Today he releases a new LP and an intriguing new video for the opening single, and title track Ride Again.
Stone sets the scene for the Rosa Luna-directed lo-fi extravaganza: “A lonely synthesizer enters like sand swirling in the desert. Through the haze of the heat, we hear the deep thumping of a four-on-the-floor kick drum, and Ronnie’s solemn tenor comes into focus. He describes running out of gas on the freeway, leaving behind his motorcycle, and wandering through the desert, a broken man searching for meaning in his life. He finds his way to a strange city, where he seeks guidance from a psychic who tells him he has made a terrible mistake.”
Watch the video for “Ride Again” below:
The Diamond finds Ronnie Stone stripping down to a raw, mechanical core, weaving together jarring bass lines with haunting synths and vocals. The track is a masterclass in minimalist cool, laced with killer hooks. Stone elevates his dark electro-synth game to new heights with this number, channeling the gritty essence of pioneers like Tobacco and Front 242, while nodding to the early, gritty days of Nine Inch Nails’ Pretty Hate Machine. It’s a bold step forward for Stone, one that solidifies his place as a dark wizard of the dance floor.
“I wanted the lyrics to be more conceptual and more graphic novel-esque to fit more in with the sound I was channeling,” says Stone. “The song takes place in a retro-dystopian future inspired by Haruki Murakami’s 1Q84. In a surreal and seedy narrative drawing influence from crime films like Natural Born Killers and Pulp Fiction, it details the thoughts of a woman on a mission to do whatever it takes to survive. She crosses a bridge, seduces a guard, steals some money, and slits the throat of anyone who gets in her way.”
Although nostalgic and light sounding, Riding In The Rain punches you square in the gut. Navigating his hometown’s transformed streets, a man grapples with a deep sense of alienation and despair in the wake of a departure. Familiar places now seem distant, tinged with sorrow. He rides under relentless rain, confronting the pain and change, haunted by memories and a future irrevocably altered. “As I was writing this song, I was thinking about movies such as Taxi Driver, Say Anything,” says Stone. “There is a vivid section of Zen And The Art of Motorcycle Maintenance where the narrator (Phaedrus) describes riding his motorcycle straight into a torrential downpour. This imagery was on my mind when writing this song.”
Backstreet Leather Toy (ft. Sedona) has that blue-eyed soul vibe, channeling Wang Chung and Hall & Oates alike, with delicious synth flourishes tinkling throughout. That ‘bad boy’ had better watch his back with a R&B groove this smooth, modernized with an Electropop sheen and a touch of George Michael. The final, eponymous, single was inspired by the worlds and sounds of techno and house.
Trippin’ the light fantastic? Chemicals is a groovy laundry list of hallucinogenic pleasures crafted for club euphoria, channeling the retro funk of Louis Cole and Knower. Calle Loiza follows with the sweet spot of wistful synth cheesiness – we can almost picture Michael McDonald frantically rushing to the studio to sing backup on this path to paradise. Daddy’s Last Night In Town channels that samba beat off your childhood Casio, replete with orchestral hooks and a funky wah-wah bassline. Disappear Here moves solidly into Prince territory, speeding up that funk and fuzzing it out with call-and-response delivery. The album closes out with a much chiller vibe: Return 2 Love, another Hall & Oates-flavoured ballad.
Verdict: all killer, no filler. Blast this one loud for your Valentine and watch the magic happen.*
*Disclaimer: we cannot guarantee WHAT kind of magic, so use this powerful mojo with caution!

Februar 2024 via Massacre Records.
CATHUBODUA sind Sängerin Sara Vanderheyden (ILUSEN’S FALLACY), Bassist Peter Thielemans, Violinist Arvid Vermote, Gitarrist Robin Ritzen (DAEMONOS, NEVERUS), Drummer Harald Bouten (NECROTESQUE, PICTURA POESIS, DAEMONOS) und Gitarrist Tom Van den Bosschelle.

01.02.2024 - GÜRL: neue Anti-Pop / Neo Punk Single “Boys In The 90s” aus England

01.02.2024 - WHITECHAPEL: Live In The Valley
I Will Find You“ differenziert auszumachen.

01.02.2024 - Candy & The Kids Debut “The Cover-Up” Album — Featuring Covers of Siouxsie and the Banshees, Romeo Void, and More!

Beneath the vibrant hum of Brooklyn’s streets, in the underground haven of C’mon Everybody, a new band in town are poised for their close up with Mister DeMille. In the creative crucible of Brooklyn in the late 2010s, a group originally d믭 The Cover-Ups was born, initially convened for the merriment of a birthday gathering. However, the trio’s journey quickly expanded beyond these humble origins, prompting a reinvention as Candy & The Kids in 2020. This trio of synth-punk wunderkinds—lead vocalist Brett Rubin, guitarist Michael Jurin (stellastarr*), and synth virtuoso Bret Winans—are gearing up for an evening where explosive stage presence is the name of the game – and nothing is as you expect.
“Let’s get weird,” they gleefully announce, grabbing random props from drag shows past. A mannequin leg here; a six-foot foil moon there. “Be quiet, I’m having my Paper Moon moment,” someone exclaims, as Rubin tosses his hands through the most glorious waterfall mullet this side of Kentucky.
Welcome to the theatrical, fantastical world of Candy & The Kids – a blessed combo of classic glam rock, chaotic good Riot Grrl spirit, 1960s girl groups, the battiness of the B-52s, and a rainbow version of Black Flag. Although the towering Rubin cuts a striking silhouette, his androgynous, coquettish voice is truly extraordinary, channeling the primal scream yelps of Kathleen Hanna, Karen O, and Siouxsie Sioux rather than, say, the expected croon of Jeffrey Lee Pierce.
Their live show is infectiously energetic, despite the over-enthusiasm of the fog machine shrouding these characters in mystery. Rubin goads the audience with his wryly confrontational DIY fashion, certainly inspired by Vivienne Westwood. Flanked by Jurin and Winans keeping time and intermittently shouting out call-and-response lyrics, Candy & The Kids’ onstage combustion ignites the normally-apathetic crowd into a frenzy of dance, beer splashing everywhere. This is pure, raw NYC punk, the kind of music we grew up wishing we could see at CBGB, smothered in a delicious sugary frosting. These sweet kids bring down the house.
Candy & The Kids are set to debut with The Cover-Up, dropping on January 30, 2024. This seven-track EP is a dynamic collection of covers, delving into the discographies of Metric, The Gun Club, Le Tigre, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Romeo Void, and Bauhaus, for starters. It’s a rich fusion of gritty synth-pop, sharp-edged grooves, and – naturally – a screamin’ sax, crafted to set your hips in motion with its infectious rhythms.
The band plans to mark their release of “The Cover-Up” with a limited-edition cassette, only 50 copies available; featuring all 7 tracks plus two original tracks, showcasing what’s ahead in 2024. Order the cassette at their Bandcamp here.

01.02.2024 - Atlanta Dark Synth Pop Duo Teardux Reclaim Their Power With New Single “REINS”

I suffered your face
It took the spaces of my heart
I took a chance in your romance
It fell apart
(I’m hypnotized)
Enduring life’s tumultuous periods mark us deeply; the triumph of survival signifies a profound internal rebirth and transformation. The person in the mirror may seem altered, evolved from naïveté to resilience through the crucible of adversity, leading to a complex mix of loss and empowerment. This reflection involves reconciling the past and present selves, mourning who we were – and celebrating who we’ve become. It’s in this nuanced space that we recognize our most significant achievements stem from internal growth, reshaping our self-perception and life narrative. The proverbial ‘dark night of the soul’ leads us down the path to enlightenment and finding our self-worth.
Hotter than Georgia asphalt: enigmatic dark synth-pop act Teardux is keeping their momentum forward while reclaiming the past with the debut of their electrifying new dancefloor banger, REINS.
The duo, featuring Valerie Andra’s haunting vocals and Dylan Anderson’s masterful synthesis of beats and melodies, ignites the night with their captivating blend of sound.
Andra’s ethereal voice cuts through the darkness, guiding listeners like a beacon, while Anderson’s mastery over the synths weaves a tapestry that is as electrifying as it is eerie. Their unique take on darkwave is reminiscent of iconic acts like Pet Shop Boys, Xymox, and Leathers, but with a distinct dance music edge that sets them apart in the underground music scene.
“REINS is a continuation of our last single MEND conceptually,” says the band. “While MEND was written about a destructive and unrequited relationship, REINS is the aftermath of said relationship. It’s about the bittersweet victory of finding your way out of such a draining endeavor and having a bit of a reflection on it. Where you almost don’t even recognize the person you were while under the cancerous spell.”

01.02.2024 - Listen to the Minimalist Art Pop of Mark Trecka’s New Single “Wrestled To Regard”

In his latest album The Bloom of Performance, Mark Trecka, a sound artist, singer, and organizer (originally from Chicago and now based in France), blends sound art textures and hypnotic, looping elements that have distinguished his work and garnered widespread recognition. The Bloom of Performance introduces a harmonious blend of these elements with the rich, emotive tones of art pop, post-punk, and dream pop. The resulting sound draws parallels with the unique styles of Dirty Beaches, Cindytalk, Circuit Des Yeux, This Mortal Coil, and David Bowie – something novel, yet familiar.
The initial single from the album, Wrestled To Regard, emerges as a contemplative exploration, reminiscent of the understated elegance found in the works of David Sylvian or the experimental phase of Scott Walker during his Tilt period. The composition is marked by its sparse bass and the resonant depth of the vocals, a Lynchian moment. Trecka’s vocal range is a study in dynamism, with moments of soaring elevation and grand pathos as the track moves with a deliberate pace akin to a languid stroll through a tunnel within some ethereal realm. As the piece reaches its bridge, the piano expands, unfurling a sound that could only be described as beautifully psychedelic.
“There’s no grand, personal narrative about this record that I want to share with the public,” Trecka says. “But I will say this: I very much wanted to make a record that I would want to listen to; that –– if I encountered it –– I would be compelled to share, to put the songs on mixtapes for my closest friends. I wanted to make the kind of record that might alchemize pain and anxiety and madness for those friends.”
Listen to “Wrestled To Regard” below:
The Bloom of Performance by Mark Trecka
The Bloom of Performance stands as one of Trecka’s most ambitious endeavors, enriched by the adept engineering and co-production talents of Sam Skarstad from Yellow Eyes. Set for release on 23 February, the album was a year in the making, featuring collaborations with Martin Courtney of Real Estate and Evan Hydzik of Pillars and Tongues.
Trecka is co-founder and lead organizer of the Beacon Prison Books Project, a volunteer-run solidarity program that provides free books to people incarcerated throughout New York State.

01.02.2024 - Synth Driven Post-Punk Project Larsovitch Breaks Free From Control in the Video for “Skasé”

Larsovitch emerges as the latest torchbearer of an audaciously inventive sound, weaving together the stark austerity of Greek minimal synth with the brooding, introspective depth of Russian-speaking post-punk. This enigmatic act is on a mission to set the dance floors ablaze, not with mere beats, but with a revival of the hedonistic zeal of bygone eras. Their sound merges the warmth of guitar strings with the electronic buzz of silicon circuits, set against dance-floor rhythms, punk energy, and new-wave vibes.
This can be seen in how Larsovitch gleefully channels the haunting cold wave influence of She Past Away and Lebanon Hanover and juxtaposes them against the impactful sounds of Kino, Siekiera, Sudno, and Molchat Doma. This synthesis not only showcases Larsovitch’s ability to navigate through a vast spectrum of soundscapes but also highlights their commitment to creating a universal rhythm that breaks down linguistic barriers and unites audiences in a collective dance experience. Their music becomes a melting pot of cultural influences, each track a mosaic of global sounds inviting listeners to embark on an auditory experience that is both familiar and refreshingly new.
“Singing in French is difficult, writing in French even more so,” Larsovitch quips. “But it’s feasible, even if the French inspirations such as Rendez-vous, Agar Agar, and Kas Product, all sung in Uncle Sam’s language. Regarding the lyrics, their content is more often than not political. The themes are varied, but the struggle against fascism, capitalism, techno-decadence, and police violence holds a prominent place. That being said, a poetic approach is preferred over analytical demonstration, to dance to the timeless Marxist morality without receiving a lesson in conduct.”
The music video for “Skasé,” which translates to “shut up” in Greek, cleverly satirizes the concept of voluntary servitude using a metaphor that gradually reveals itself to the audience. The video employs a series of visual and symbolic cues, subtly inviting viewers to piece together the underlying message. This approach encourages active viewer engagement, leading to a deeper exploration of the themes presented. By avoiding direct exposition, the video prompts its audience to reflect on the societal implications and their own interpretations, turning the viewing experience into a thought-provoking analysis of human behaviour and social structures. In order to break free from control, Larsovitch chooses both escape and friendship.
Under the direction of filmmaker Eleni Fil, and with the participation of Giakov Giurovski from the Gématos Arachnes group, the entire video was filmed in Athens in October 2023, in the neighborhoods of Psyri, Pagrati, Exarchia, Thyseio, and the Lycabettus Hill.

“Skasé” is the first single from the upcoming EP, ΣΥΝΘ Cassette 02/2024, set to be released in February 2024 by Conicle Records & Ascèse Records. The music, intricately crafted through the recording, mixing, and production expertise of Larsovitch and Yuls at Theoctopus Studio, achieves its final polish with Alex Cappa’s mastering at Metropol Studio in Madrid.

EP 2023 by Larsovitch
Larsovitch came into existence in 2020 at the artistic workshop Friche Mimi. The premise is quite simple – to compose dark yet highly danceable music using old machines rather than relying on a computer. A chance encounter during a residency outing with sound engineer Jules Potier elevatesd the project, both technically and artistically. Larsovitch then established a lasting presence at the Friche by opening “TheOctopus,” a recording and music creation studio. There, he benefited from the sharing of the expertise of several people also involved in the workshop: Asphalte & G. for stage coaching, Aléthéia Audiovisuel for video productions, Camille Fanti from Label Folie, as well as Dany Lapointe from Printival who provided valuable advice on development.
Larsovitch also has major planned in Athens in 2024.

01.02.2024 - Pet Shop Boys Announce New Album “Nonetheless” and Debut Video for “Loneliness”

Like Ringo walking by the canal
Downcast and alone
You’re taking time to play that part
A man who skims a stone
The term “nonetheless” embodies a certain resilience in thought and language, embodying an acknowledgment of reality’s complexities without succumbing to cynicism or defeatism. The term is a linguistic expression of enduring optimism and the ability to perceive and appreciate the multifaceted nature of life’s experiences. It is, in short, the perfect word embodying the extraordinary career of Pet Shop Boys, who have just released the new single Loneliness. Although the younger set might not get the reference to A Hard Day’s Night, the feeling of isolation is universal throughout all the generations currently battling it out on social media, those masking their true identities, and those succumbing to peer pressure in modern times.
Pet Shop Boys continue to prove their timeless relevance with their latest melancholic disco track, maintaining their status as synthpop icons. Their enduring ability to produce music that is both sardonically uplifting and innovative keeps them at the forefront of the genre, consistently inspiring fans and artists alike with their fresh, creative approach. In the past few months alone, Pet Shop Boys have been covered by Sally Shapiro, The Heroic Enthusiasts, Sleaford Mods, TR/ST with Jake Shears, Some Ember, and even served as a pillory of shame the infamous Saltburn karaoke scene.
Directed by Alasdair McLellan, the video for Loneliness is a compelling portrayal of the concealed lives of young men grappling with their sexuality, depicted through secret meetings in bathrooms and the exchange of covert notes through glory holes. It artfully captures their yearning for one another, juxtaposed with the public denial of their true emotions, weaving a sorrowful tale of hidden desires and the pain inflicted by their duplicity on everyone involved. Neil and Chris appear in the video – wise, paternal, asking these people if the pain of lies under social pressure is worth it.
It is, in short, Pet Shop Boys at their best.
Nonetheless is set to drop on April 26th via Parlophone, with the launch being celebrated through five exclusive shows at the Royal Opera House in London. James Ford took the helm in production, mainly operating from his studio in East London.

01.02.2024 - VELCROS: Opener vom neuen Psychedelic / Punk Rock Album “Strange News From the Vault” aus Leipzig

01.02.2024 - JOB FOR A COWBOY: weiterer Video-Clip vom neuen Album “Moon Healer”

Mit einem Video zu “Beyond The Chemical Doorway” haben JOB FOR A COWBOY nun einen weiteren Song vom kommenden Album “Moon Healer” veröffentlicht. “Moon Healer erscheint am 23. Februar 2024 via via Metal Blade Records.
