Die australische Alternative Metal-Band ARCADE STORIES hat mit “Night Negatives” eine neue Single veröffentlicht. Der Song folgt auf die EP “High Score Diploma” und wurde von Gareth Hargreaves gemixt.

Die Hard / Heavy Rock-Band LORDI geht im Frühjahr 2024 auf Headliner-Tour durch Europa. Unter dem Motto “Unliving Pictour Show 2024” spielt man Konzerte in Villingen-Schwenningen, Köln, Braunschweig, Oberhausen, Wilhelmshaven, Hamburg, Stuttgart, Markneukirchen, Wiener Neustadt (A), Pratteln (CH), Memmingen, München, Innsbruck (A), Mannheim, Regensburg-Obertraubling, Leipzig und Wien (A).

Zu hören sind dabei auch Songs des aktuellen Studioalbums “Screem Writers Guild” (2023). Für das Vorprogramm konnten die Finnen ALL FOR METAL sowie SUPREME UNBEING gewinnen.

Mit “Millennial Dream” wird in wenigen Tagen das neue Album der indischen Shoegaze / Melodic Post Metal-Band AYUSH KUMAR PROJECT erscheinen. Es ist nach der 2021er-EP “Oblivion” das erste Album des namensgebendes Solo-Künstlers aus Mumbai. Gesanglich wurde der Musiker von Shubham Salunkhe und Amy Khazaador unterstützt.

“Millennial Dream” ist eine Hommage an Ayushs verstorbenen Bruder und wird am 10. Februar 2024 erscheinen.

Die Symphonic Metal-Band HYPERSONIC hat mit “Kaosmogonia” ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist nach “Fallen Melodies” (2011) und “Existentia” (2016) das dritte Album der Sizilianer und wird am 12. April 2024 via Rockshots Records erscheinen.

Der Titel, eine Verschmelzung von “Kaos” und “Cosmos”, steht für die duale Natur des Menschen – chaotisch und geordnet. Das Album erforscht demnach das Zusammenspiel von Chaos und Kosmos und befasst sich mit der Komplexität menschlicher Emotionen, der Reflexion über das Leben und den Auswirkungen historischer Ereignisse.

Mit “Mother Earth” gibt es vorab einen Video-Clip. Der Song reflektiert über die zyklische Natur der Geschichte und die unbestreitbare Kraft der Rache der Natur.

Die Modern Metalcore-Band AVRALIZE präsentiert ihre neue Single “Higher” als Clip bei YouTube.

Die IMPERICON FESTIVALS gehen 2024 in eine neue Runde und feiern dabei auch eine Premiere: Erstmals erhält die Festival-Reihe auch einen Ableger in Hamburg. Stattfinden wir ddie Veranstaltung außerdem wie gehabt in den fünf Städten Wien, Leipzig, Zürich, Oberhausen sowie München.

Wie gehabt erhält jede Stadt ein anderes Line-up, wobei der Headliner AS I LAY DYING an allen Terminen gesetzt ist. Für Leipzig, Hamburg und Oberhausen wurde jetzt mit LANDMVRKS ein weiterer Act bestätigt.

Außerdem treten SAMURAI PIZZA CATS in Leipzig sowie Oberhausen auf. Kurz vor Weihnachten präsentierten die Veranstalter außerdem eine Überraschung: BREAKDOWN OF SANITY feiern auf allen vier deutschen Festivals ihr Comeback.

Eine zweite Bandwelle erweiterte das Billing um CALLEJON (Leipzig), TERROR, NEAERA (Leipzig, Oberhausen), NASTY, DYING WISH, THORNHILL (Leipzig, Oberhausen) sowie THROWN (Leipzig, Oberhausen, Zürich, München). Zudem spielen FUTURE PALACE aufgrund der hohen Nachfrage jetzt auch in Leipzig, MENTAL CRUELTY sind zusätzlich in Wien, Zürich und München am Start.

Mit der ersten Bandwelle bestätigten die Organisatoren zudem folgende Acts: WHILE SHE SLEEPS, AUGUST BURNS RED, POLARIS, CASEY, SILENT PLANET, FUTURE PALACE, MENTAL CRUELTY und PALEDUSK. Die Mittelalter Rock- / Power Metal-Band FEUERSCHWANZ hat für 19. April 2024 das neue Album “Warriors” auf CD, Vinyl sowie digital angekündigt. Oswald Henke, künstlerischer Leiter, Texter und Gründungsmitglied von Goethes Erben, hat deutlich gemacht, dass mit diesem 10. Studioalbum der geneigten Hörerschaft der letzte haptische Tonträger vorgelegt wird. So steht es auch in den Credits geschrieben. Bereits mit seinem Nebenprojekt „Erblast“ beschreitet er ausschließlich nur noch digitale Downloadpfade via Bandcamp. Denn da „der Tonträgerhandel mehr oder weniger scheintot ist oder teilweise schon leichenstarr“ wie es Herr Henke in einem Interview mit dem Label Dryland betont, lohnt sich der Aufwand Musik auf Scheiben zu pressen für Musiker nicht mehr.Hier aber hat man sich noch einmal erweichen lassen und bietet „X“ nun – wie auch bereits die beiden Vorgängeralben (Am Abgrund & Flüchtige Küsse) – in kleiner Auflage in 12-Zoll-Größe an. Songpaten ließen der Produktion monetäre Unterstützung zukommen, indem sie im Vorfeld die Patenschaft ersteigerten und nun ihre Namen am Ende des entsprechenden Liedtextes vorfinden. Bereits auf der vergangenen Tournee wurden die Stücke, wie man es von dieser Band gewohnt ist, sehr emotional und dramaturgisch überzeugend zu Gehör gebracht, so dass ein Kauf der Platte für mich da bereits außer Frage stand. Die Kraft, welche die Lieder live auf der Bühne klanglich entwickelten, konnte auf weite Strecken auch im Studio eingefangen werden, was beim Hören ein zufriedenes Lächeln und einige Bilder aus der Konzerthalle einkehren lässt. Der wesentliche Grund dafür ist aus meiner Sicht, dass Goethes Erben seit vielen Jahren zu einem eingespielten Quartett zusammengewachsen sind.

„Bin ich blind“ ist wie ein langer Gang, den man erst entlang muss, um den X. Raum überhaupt erst betreten zu können. Der Sprechgesang von Oswald Henke ist schon allgegenwärtig, klingt aber noch wie aus weiter Ferne kommend. Zum Ende des Stückes öffnet sich die Tür und lässt die Instrumentierung in Gänze auf den Hörer einschlagen. Mit der Bitte aufzuwachen wird man an den „Traum vom Leben“ herangeführt. Was sich auf den letzten beiden Alben bereits deutlich bemerkbar machte: Goethes Erben sind härter und die Stücke dabei eingängiger geworden. Gleichzeitig bewahren sich die Erben Ihre Fähigkeit die Verletzlichkeit und den Schmerz musikalisch und stimmlich sehr glaubhaft einzufangen. Dafür schweigen die Gitarren immer dann, wenn Oswalds Stimme Raum benötigt Fragen an das Leben zu stellen oder Wünsche zu äußern. Dann ist nur noch das Keyboard da und man möchte sich hinlegen und fallenlassen. Erst finsteren Prophezeiungen werden wie bspw. bei den Liedern „Nagen“ oder „Xenomelie“ Industrial- und Metalklänge zur Seite gestellt. Da möchte man dann doch lieber wieder aufstehen und wachsam bleiben, denn allzu rosig wird einem die Zukunft nicht gezeichnet. Wer hätte das gedacht? Mit „Zeitwert“ wird man in Klavierbegleitung „Voraus ins Ungewiss, zum Glück unmöglich“ wieder aus dem Raum X entlassen, der mittlerweile eher einem Saal gleicht. „Was man nicht erlebt, ist nicht existent“. Ich habe dieses Album erlebt und es existiert UND es ist alle Zeit wert, die es auf dem Plattenteller rotiert.

Abwechslungsreich und sauber produziert werden hier Industrial, Gothic-Rock, Ambient und Musiktheater aufs Tablett gelegt. Nach wie vor gilt: Zum Nebenbeihören ist diese Musik ungeeignet. Sie braucht Lautstärke und verdient die volle Zuwendung. Das Album funktioniert auch ohne die legendäre Optik von Oswald Henkes Bühnenpräsenz ganz wunderbar in der eigenen Stube. Wer sich den Live-Bonus aber doch holen möchte, hat in Kürze Gelegenheit dafür. Für’s Frühjahr sind Konzerte in Belgien und Deutschland angekündigt.  (M.Wienecke)

Out next month on March 22 via the Infinite Fog label is a reissue of The Treshold Houseboys Choir release “Amulet”. The Treshold Houseboys Choir was the project of the late Peter “Sleazy” Christopherson of Coil.

Originally available in limited quantities at live shows and via direct mail-order in 2008 as a hand-assembled 4 mini-CDR set housed in a circular Thai Amulet case and never properly distributed, the material finally receives a wider re-release on vinyl and CD. This release was the second and final release for Christopherson’s post-Coil solo project.

As a bonus feature this reissue includes rare earlier compilation tracks and a few previously unreleased exclusive rough demos.

About Peter “Sleazy” Christopherson

Peter Martin Christopherson, known as Sleazy, (27 February 1955 – 25 November 2010) was a versatile English artist encompassing roles as a musician, video director, commercial artist, designer, and photographer. He was notably a part of the British design agency Hipgnosis.

Under the dim luminescence of London’s ever-stirring skyline, Analog Dance emerges as a spectral figure, crafting the haunting, rhythm-infused tapestry of “Stranger Minds.” This inaugural album from the new darkwave project slices through the urban dusk, opening a gateway to a domain where time blurs—a realm crafted from the whispers of lo-fi echoes, each chord resonating with the depth of untold narratives.

“Stranger Minds” is a compelling expedition through the labyrinthine corridors of the soul, with each track representing a milestone of personal and artistic metamorphosis, creating a dance of shadows and light. The lo-fi aesthetic of Analog Dance invites us into an experience where the echoes of Clan of Xymox, New Order, and haunting baritone reminiscent of surly gothic rock frontmen converge in a symphony of melancholic euphoria.

The album opens with “Eyes,” a track that ensnares with its spectral vocals and throbbing beats, setting the stage for a voyage into the depths of the psyche. “Melancholy” and “Lost” weave a dense fog of synth and sorrow, while “Echo” mesmerizes with its eerie, repetitive melodies, drawing listeners into a reflective trance.

As “Digital Tears” cascades into “Drowning,” we’re submerged in a sea of retro-infused melancholy, only to be revived by the nostalgic undercurrents of “Gloom.” The odyssey concludes with “Animal,” a vibrant finale that pulses with the promise of renewal.

Analog Dance’s “Stranger Minds” is a synth-driven phantasmagoria that not only can be heard through the ears, but is also tactile with emotion. It’s an obscure and esoteric darkwave record that serves a soundtrack that resonates like shadows cast upon the walls within the caverns of the heart and mind, perhaps mirroring our own transformations or serving as a beacon for those adrift in their own narratives.

Beth Gibbons of Portishead has announced her first solo endeavor,  Lives Outgrown, set for release on May 17, 2024. This album emerges as her most intimate project yet, born from a time rich in introspection and transformation. Beth describes it as a period marked by “lots of goodbyes” — parting ways with family, friends, and even aspects of her own identity.

“I realized what life was like with no hope,” says Beth. “And that was a sadness I’d never felt. Before, I had the ability to change my future, but when you’re up against your body, you can’t make it do something it doesn’t want to do.”

Lives Outgrown distills the quintessence of life’s meridian, when the horizon of the future ceases to proffer the comfort of the known, and the rearview mirror of the past reveals itself with an unprecedented lucidity. Gibbons thoughtfully explores the realms of motherhood, the spectre of anxiety, and the seismic shifts of menopause, which she characterizes with a lyrical frankness as both “a massive audit” of one’s life and “a massive comedown.” The humbling theme of mortality emerges, a leitmotif as inevitable as it is profound.

In Floating On A Moment, Gibbons’ expressive voice, extraordinary as ever, has been softened by time. Her performance now wields a power in wisdom and experience – her signature croon serving as a beacon- and lullaby – for those beginning this passage of life themselves.

“People started dying,” says Beth. “When you’re young, you never know the endings, you don’t know how it’s going to pan out. You think: we’re going to get beyond this. It’s going to get better. Some endings are hard to digest.”

Emerging from this decade of change and realignment,however, has left Beth with what feels like a renewed purpose. “Now I’ve come out of the other end, I just think, you’ve got to be brave,” she says.

Tony Oursler’s involvement in directing the video for Floating On A Moment adds a significant layer of artistic depth to the project, given his reputation as a multi-media artist and director on Bowie’s video for Where Are We Now?. Oursler is renowned for his innovative use of video, sculpture, and performance to create immersive, multimedia experiences.

“When I first heard Floating On A Moment it literally transported me from place to place, filling me with kaleidoscopic emotions and visions,” says Oursler. “If possible, I wanted to capture that psychic liquid in this video. Beth’s work is so powerful it can lead us through life’s forests and fires, revealing glimpses of possible futures. With a voice and music like that I knew we had to make images which are open, somehow speculative.”

Featuring ten beautiful new tracks recorded over a period of ten years, the album was produced by James Ford (Arctic Monkeys, Depeche Mode, The Last Dinner Party) and Beth Gibbons with additional production by Lee Harris (Talk Talk).

In addition to Beth’s work with Portishead, her Out Of Season album with Rustin Man (2002) and the recording of her performance of Górecki’s Symphony Of Sorrowful Songs (2014), she has most recently been heard collaborating with Kendrick Lamar on 2022’s Mother I Sober from his Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers album.

Iranian musician Azam Ali has signed with COP International, and is set to release her first studio album since 2019’s “Phantoms”. You might know Azam Ali also as member of the bands VAS and Niyaz.

“Being an independent artist for years now after breaking away from the industry model of releasing my music through record labels, meeting COP founder Christian Petke and seeing his great passion for the music he meticulously curates and releases on COP International, reawakened the joy I experienced in the early days of my career when I would collaborate with a label to produce a body of work that raised the bar artistically,” explains Ali.

Ali has collaborated either in-studio or on stage with Serj Tankian of System of a Down, Peter Murphy of Bauhaus, The Crystal Method, Mickey Hart, among many others. Her soundtrack work in film and television includes “Thor – The Dark World”, “Matrix- Revolutions”, “300”, “The Fight Club”, “Dawn of the Dead”, “True Blood”, “Alias”, “The Agency”, and “Prison Break”. She is also a well-known musical force in the video game world, having composed music for “Uncharted 3”, “Call of Duty”, “Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands”, and “Syphon Filter: Logan’s Shadow”.

Currently in the studio, Azam Ali is crafing her new album, planned for release later in 2024. John Fryer will be producing the material.

Sacred Bones has just unveiled two more tracks from the parallel releases of Xmal Deutschland’sEarly Singles 1981-1982 (including two bonus tracks) and the debut solo album from Xmal Deutschland’s inimitable front-woman Anja Huwe, ‘Codes.’ Both records are set for release side-by-side on March 8th, 2024.

Throughout the 1980s, Xmal Deutschland distinguished themselves with a voracious and unwavering approach to their art. Their distinctive aesthetic, characterized by bold hairstyles and intense, kohl-rimmed eyes, mirrored the complex nature of their music, which combined relentless energy with a nuanced finesse. This blend allowed them to break free from the confines of the “Neue Deutsche Welle” movement, differentiating them from peers like DAF and Einstürzende Neubauten.

Xmal Deutschland embraced punk’s bold break from traditional norms, finding solace in its anti-establishment ethos—a stark contrast to the rigid conventions of the past. Their recording debut, the single Schwarze Welt, was characterized by an unforeseen turn of events: Rita Simon, the intended lead vocalist, was unexpectedly absent on the day of recording. This twist of fate thrust Anja Huwe, initially the bassist, into the spotlight as the lead singer. Despite her initial hesitations, she stepped into the role, marking a significant shift in the band’s trajectory.

“The only condition from my side [was that] I will never perform onstage,” she reflects. “Two months later, they made me without ever telling me up front. I had no choice.”Their breakthrough came with the release of Incubus Succubus in 1982, a pivotal moment that was further amplified by a landmark performance in London the same year, where they opened for the Cocteau Twins. This event propelled them into the spotlight, attracting an avant-garde audience characterized by torn fishnets and a penchant for the unconventional.

 Schwarze Welt was released on the local punk label, ZickZack, in 1981 and introduced the band as an unsettling swarm of intensity. The characterization of Xmal Deutschland primarily as a female ensemble—a notion later playfully amended with the inclusion of Wolfgang Ellerbrock, who became the group’s lone male counterpart—gained momentum within the circles of media, a fascination propelled as much by their visual appeal as by their musical prowess. “We were like paradise birds,” Huwe wryly remembers. “We as girls, especially being creative in many ways, ignored facts like: be nice, be polite, take good care about your looks. Of course, we wanted to look good but in a different and unconventional way. We were enough for ourselves.”

Following Xmal Deutschland’s distinguished run, marked by four albums released under esteemed labels like 4AD, Anja Huwe shifted her creative focus, leaving the musical stage to delve into the realm of visual arts. However, this transition did not mean an effortless departure from her musical legacy; the echoes of her past endeavors lingered.

“Since the split in the early 1990s, I have been haunted by the ‘Legend of Xmal Deutschland’ and never-ending requests from all over the world, all of which I always turned down,” she says.

Early Singles (1981-1982) is a map of their foundational movements, just seconds before takeoff. The band’s pursuit of something greater is palpable with this release, a reflection of a time that introduced accessibility to new means of making music following the onset of punk. This reissue includes two bonus tracks; Kaelbermarsch (originally from the compilation Lieber Zuviel Als Zuwenig) and a gritty live version of Allein (originally from the compilation Nosferatu Festival), which is shared online today along with a video montage of footage from this era of the band’s career.

Pariah is the second offering from the debut solo release from Anja Huwe. Invited by her long-time friend Mona Mur, Huwe reconsidered her decades-long hiatus from music and decided to join Mur in her studio in Berlin. Together, they worked for a year and a half, composing, performing and producing the tracks from scratch which eventually became the album Codes.

The razor-sharp new single shows the intentional interchange between languages on the record: “Since I sing multilingually, and often work with metaphors, I hope that the listener can grasp the moods without understanding them literally. I believe that voice, expression, and sound can achieve an overall atmosphere. Sometimes melancholic and blue, but also uplifting, vibrant, or subliminally aggressive.”

Initially inspired by the diary entries of Moshe Shnitzki, who, at the age of 17, left his home in 1942 to live in the cavernous White Russian forests as a partisan, Codes is about the human experience and what extremes can do to an individual. “The result is a poetic, musical cosmos that encompasses the following themes: forest, fear, pain, loss, violence, and loneliness but also beauty, longing, hope and the will to survive,” Huwe explains.

The thematic extremities cause an erraticism to Codes—a passing thunderstorm, a cyclonic burst of nature’s force—but one that exudes anticipation amidst the chill. With elegant production by Mur and Huwe and mixing and mastering by Jon Caffery (Joy Division, Gary Numan, Einstürzende Neubauten) epic builds crash and disseminate, the sleek synthesised drones of sound even feel claustrophobic at times.

Darkness descends upon Munich this June for another fantastically curated edition of the city’s annual Grey Scale Festival. On June 22nd, Grey Scale will present an eclectic lineup that bridges the gap between the raw, pulsating energy of post-punk and the ethereal realms of dark wave, while synthpop and industrial beats provide a dance-driven counterpoint, weaving a tapestry of sound as diverse as its audience. This year, Grey Scale isn’t just offering a festival; it’s creating a cultural confluence, a day where music transcends mere listening to become a profound experience for those who seek out a blend of blissful nostalgia and forward-thinking innovation.

Ellen Allien is a German electronic musician, music producer, and the founder of the BPitch Control music label. With her work dedicated to Berlin’s vibrant culture, she has become a significant figure in the electronic music scene, blending German and English lyrics.

Molly Nilsson

Molly Nilsson is a Swedish singer-songwriter known for her DIY approach, self-producing and releasing music through her label Dark Skies Association since 2009. Based in Berlin, her synth-pop style combines introspective lyrics with a distinctive independent ethos.

Ceremony

Ceremony is an American punk band formed in Rohnert Park, California, in 2005. Known for their intense energy and evolving sound, they’ve transitioned from hardcore to post-punk and indie rock, maintaining a strong punk ethos throughout their diverse discography​.

 

Kite

Kite is a Swedish synthpop duo formed by Nicklas Stenemo and Christian Berg, originating from Malmö and now based in Stockholm. Since their 2008 debut, they have released six EPs, blending emotive lyrics with lush synthesizers, and have become known for their captivating live performances.

Schwefelgelb *live

Schwefelgelb (“sulfur yellow) from Berlin is comprised of Jonas Förster and Philipp Graf. Known for their energetic live performances, enhanced with synchronized strobe lights and projections, their music blends techno with EBM.

Korine

Philadelphia-based electronic pop duo Korine was formed by Morgy Ramone and Trey Frye. The band combines new wave nostalgia with modern pop sensibilities, featuring upbeat rhythms alongside sullen, emotionally evocative lyrics, creating a distinctive sound.

Skemer is a Belgian dark electro duo formed by model Kim Peers and Amenra guitarist Mathieu Vandekerckhove. Known for their dark, minimalist wave music, Skemer combines brutality and sensuality, offering an entrancing musical experience that reflects the duality of their artistic collaboration.

Sarin

Sarin is a post-metal band from Toronto, Canada, formed in 2012. They have released two studio albums and one EP, known for their emotive brand of vitriol through their heavy and dreamlike metallic soundscapes.

Kim Peers

Kim Peers is a prominent Belgian model and musician, renowned for her contributions to the fashion and music industries. She gained prominence as one of the most sought-after models of the 90s and 2000s, gracing the covers of Italian Vogue and featuring in campaigns for YSL, Prada, and other luxury brands. Besides her modeling career, Peers is also known for her musical talent as part of the Belgian dark electro duo Skemer​.

Did you have ‘new wave sea chanty’ on your 2024 bingo card? Well, Indiana Bradley has pulled a fast one on us with the hypnotically haunting new post-punk single This Is Where The Pirates Are, a solemn dirge paddling in pathos and drowning in raw American gothic.

From Argentina to Indonesia, a life spent globe-trotting and storytelling far from the Midwestern heartland of his youth has shaped Bradley’s unique lens. As a journalist, every passport stamp brought new stories, every encounter a fresh perspective on the human condition. These global experiences now resonate through his songwriting, which delves into the core themes of existence: life, death, morality, and the intricate dance between light and shadow.

This Is Where The Pirates Are has a melancholy hook that capsizes our hearts. Flanked by musicians Eddie Curi (bass), Lucas Aton (drums), Andy Rehfeldt (guitar), and Daddy Priest (guitar), Bradley’s droning baritone growl channels Nick Cave, Johnny Cash, Warren Zevon, Gordon Lightfoot, and the neo-folk explorations of Frank Tovey. Six years have passed since Bradley’s feet first touched the sun-baked streets of Los Angeles. Amidst the urban hum, he birthed the haunting LP, “Ghost Star,” punctuated by two raw live albums echoing the soul of The Satellite and the pulse of Harvard & Stone. From Silverlake’s bohemian alleys to the neon glow of the Sunset Strip, to the fiery rhythm of Belo Horizonte, Brazil, Bradley’s sound has found its echo.

Hunter Burgan of A.F.I., enchanted by Bradley’s resonance, lent his hand in sculpting the ethereal “Pale City” – a 4-track EP. Yet, another offering looms: a 6-track EP, melded with the alchemy of Seth Olansky, christened “Canticles Los Angeles.” With a style refusing confinement, Bradley is flanked by Eddie Curi’s bass, Lucas Aton’s drumbeat, Andy Rehfeldt’s guitar strains, and Daddy Priest’s electrifying strings.

Die Death Metal-Band NECROT stellt mit “Cut The Cord” bei YouTube den ersten Song ihres kommenden Albums “Lifeless Birth” vor.

“Lifeless Birth” folgt den Alben “Mortal” (2020) und “Blood Offerings” (2017), aufgenommen hat es Produzenten Greg Wilkinson. Das Mastering kommt von Brad Boatright aus dem Audiosiege.

Bassist und Sänger Luca Indrio will mit “Lifeless Birth” ein Zeichen setzen:

“Die letzten Jahre waren für uns und jeden anderen ziemlich hart. “Lifeless Birth” ist das Ergebnis dieser Zeit. Es ist unser aggressivstes Album, aber  auch das melodischste. Um die Jahrtausendwende war die Welt in der deutschen Neo Folk-Szene noch in Ordnung. Das SIGILL-Fanzine aus Dresden, dass einflussreiche deutsche Sprachrohr des Genre, stellte gerade sein Erscheinen nach 20 Heften ein, nur um fast nahtlos in das ZINNOBER-Magazin überzugehen. Parallel lief das hauseigene Label Eis & Licht sehr gut und LEGER DES HEILS debütierten dort gerade mit zwei sehr ästhetisch ansprechenden 10Zoll-Schallplatten. Auch musikalisch fand die charismatische Mischung aus Neo Folk, Martial Industrial und Synth Pop von LEGER DES HEILS regen Anklang und man hielt bis 2010 bzw. zum Ende des Labels diesem die Treue. Danach veröffentlichte das Projekt von M.A. Baal weiter im Eigenverlag unter dem Banner Aristae meist liebevoll verpackte und streng limitierte CD-Produktionen. In den letzten Jahren wurden davon einige als Vinyl-Ausgaben über Steinklang nachgereicht, für das aktuelle Album „Sonnenflammen“ hat man dies jetzt jedoch dem Dessauer Only The Sun Knows-Label übertragen. Zum musikalischen Gehalt des Albums brauche ich eigentlich nichts weiter hinzufügen, außer das „Sonnenflammen“ absolut typisch für LEGER DES HEILS ist und souverän Freunde des Projektes wie allgemein des Genres restlos befriedigen dürfte. Deshalb können wir uns hier voll und ganz auf die Vinyl-Ausgabe konzentrieren, welche auf den ersten Blick dezent zurückhaltend wirken mag, letztendlich doch recht prächtig strahlt. Neben einem aufwendigen Box-Set (30 Stück) und einer Pressung im roten Vinyl (50 Exemplare), gibt es das Album noch 111 mal im schwarzen Vinyl und diese Ausgabe liegt mir auch zur Rezension vor. Das mattschwarze Cover mit Reliefprägung und rotem Metallic-Heißfoliendruck sind wirklich sehr edel aus und erinnert nicht nur ungefähr an alte DEATH IN JUNE-Vinyl-Cover, als Douglas P. noch Geschmack bewiesen hat, der ihm leider inzwischen völlig abhanden gekommen ist. Die Platte selbst steckt in einer neutralen gefütterten Innenhülle, welche man problemlos in das parallel ebenso vorhandene bedruckte Innersleeve integrieren kann. Das Vinyl ist hervorragend gepresst und sauber, weshalb man es bedenkenlos ohne „Wäsche“ auf den Dreher legt kann. Die Platte ist dabei völlig laufruhig und klingt wirklich hervorragend. Einziger Wermutstropfen ist, dass auf Grund der begrenzten Spielzeit einer Schallplatte auf den letzten Album-Track „Solis Occasum“ hier verzichtet werden musste. Eine Postkarte und eine PVC-Außenhülle mit Sticker runden diese wunderbare von Hand nummerierte Vinyl-Edition ab, von der es übrigens nur noch wenige Exemplare direkt beim Label zu kaufen gibt. LOCRIAN haben erste Details zum Nachfolger des 2022er Albums “New Catastrophism” verraten: Die neue Platte heißt “End Terrian” und erscheint am 5. April 2024 via Profound Lore Records.

Mit einem Video zu “Chronoscapes” bei YouTube hat das Post Metal-Trio jetzt einen ersten Song von “End Terrian” im Netz geteilt.

“End Terrain” ist ein Konzeptalbum mit der Vision einer von Müll und Abfall übersäten Erde. In dieser apokalyptischen Landschaft lebt eine Generation, die ihre Herkunft verachtet. Der langsam aussterbende Rasse ist bewusst, dass sie nur ödes Land hinterlassen wird. “End Terrain” handelt auch von Trägheit und Bedauern, von der Zukunft und der Gegenwart, von Trauer und Auslöschung.

Produktion und Mix von “End Terrain” kommen von J. Robbins at Magpie Cage, das Mastering von Brad Boatright. Für das Artwork ist Chris Dorland verantwortlich.

Es braucht schon eine gesunde Portion Humor, dem eigenen Projekt ein „Doktor Frankenstein und seine Zombies“-Konzept verpassen, wenn dieses Gimmick doch unverändert auf den musikalischen Output übertragbar wäre. Obwohl DOMINUM gerade ihr Debütalbum vorlegen, kommt die Gruppe um Frontmann Felix Heldt alias Dr. Dead aber keineswegs aus dem Nichts. Immerhin hat selbiger im deutschen Metal-Zirkus schon seit geraumer Zeit als Produzent und Songschreiber seine Finger im Spiel. Der Labeldeal mit Napalm Records ist aufgrund vergangener Beziehungen (u.a. DARTAGNAN, FEUERSCHWANZ) folglich mehr logischer Schritt als Überraschung.

Solche sind auf einem durchkalkulierten Album wie „Hey Living People“ ohnehin nicht erwünscht. Das Frontcover: ein Bandfoto; der Titel: zugleich ein holpriger Versuch, eine Art Slogan bzw. Catchphrase zu etablieren. Dementsprechend risikoarm und glattgebügelt gestalten sich die 13 Tracks inklusive dreier bemühter Cover-Versionen. Vor allem „You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)“ (DEAD OR ALIVE) und “Bad Guy” (BILLY EILISH) wirken trotz Rock-Korsett im eigentlich so harmonisch konzipierten Gesamtwerk wie Fremdkörper.

Zugutehalten muss man DOMINUM das Gespür für eingängige Arrangements
Ansonsten fällt das Material innerhalb des gegebenen Rahmens eher als breit angelegter Flickenteppich auf, der wohl gerade noch so als moderner Power Metal durchgehen kann, wenn sich DOMINUM im Refrain von „Danger Danger“ an SABATON orientieren. Im Titeltrack kommen dann in der Bridge ein paar Folk-Anleihen hinzu, bevor sich „Frankenstein“ ganz ungeniert am Erfolgsrezept POWERWOLFs bedient.

Zugutehalten muss man dem Quartett immerhin sein Gespür für poppige und eingängige Arrangements: Schon im ersten Durchlauf könnte man zum rockigen „Cannibal Corpses“ ungeniert mit dem Fuß wippen – hier präsentieren sich DOMINUM als eine gestriegelte Inkarnation der Monster-Rocker LORDI. Zumindest in Teilen ist das im Fall von „Hey Living People“ dem Gesang zuzuschreiben, der zwar hell und klar, doch gleichzeitig erschreckend beliebig durch das Album führt.

Mit einem ähnlichen Zeugnis marschiert die restliche Instrumentierung nach Hause, die in rund 46 Minuten keinerlei eigenes Profil zeigen will. Gerade weil DOMINUM mit ihrem ersten Wurf niemandem wehtun wollen, tasten wir bis zuletzt vergeblich nach dem Puls dieser blutarmen Vorstellung. Es ist schon ein schräger Humor: Vielleicht hätte man das Gimmick um den verrückten Wissenschaftler und seine untote Gefolgschaft besser nicht bis ins letzte Detail umgesetzt, wenn der Witz schlussendlich und aller Ironie zum Trotz auf eigene Kosten geht.

Mit “Whispers of Ancient Spells” wird in wenigen Wochen das neue Album der Black Metal-Band SKUGGOR erscheinen. Es ist nach “Skogshypnos” (2023) das zweite Album des Solo-Projekts des Australiers Matthew Bell (WIZARDTHRONE, TROLDHAUGEN, FORLORN CITADEL, Ex-RISE OF AVERNUS, Ex-FOLKODIA), der sich in Schweden niedergelassen hat.

“Whispers of Ancient Spells”, das mit einem Cover-Artwork von Peter Henry Emerson ausgestattet wurde, wird am 23. Februar 2024 via Naturmacht Productions erscheinen. Mit dem Video zu “Whispers of Ancient Spells” ist nun ein erster Vorab-Track erschienen.

IHSAHN hat die Songs für sein nächstes Album “Ihsahn” doppelt aufgenommen: Zu jeden Track gibt es auch eine Orchester-Version.

Wie das klingt, erfährt man mit den Vorab-Singles: ‘Pilgrimage To Oblivion’ kann man sich in der regulären Version sowie in der Klassik-Version anhören. Außerdem gibt es Video-Clips zu “Twice Born” und “The Distance Between Us“.

“Ihsahn” wird am 16. Februar 2024 veröffentlicht.

Die Metal Version des Albums hat Jens Bogren abgemischt, die Orchester-Version Joel Dollié, beide Fassungen sind von Tony Lindgren gemastert.

Unterstützt wurde Ihsahn von den Schlagzeugern Tobias Ørnes Andersen und Tobias Solbakk, sein Sohn Angell Solberg Tveitan brachte zusätzliche Percussion-Elemente ein, Chris Baum einige Violinen-Parts.

Death Metal aus Spanien: PESTILENGTH veröffentlichen ihr drittes Album “Solar Clorex” via Debemur Morti Productions.

Mit “Baleful Profusion” und “Neerv” haben PESTILENGTH bereits im Januar zwei Songs vor der offiziellen Album-Veröffentlichung im Netz geteilt, nun gibt’s alle Songs von “Solar Cortex” bei YouTube im Stream.
