 ELECTRIC EEL SHOCK veröffentlichen am 21. März 2024 ihr neues Album “Heavy Metal Black Belt” via Double Peace Records. Den Albumtitel erklärt ELECTRIC EEL SHOCK-Frontman Akihito Morimito mit seinen musikalischen Vorlieben:

“Ob wir eine Heavy Metal Band sind? Wir viele unterschiedliche Songs, Punk, Pop, wir mischen alles. Aber wir lieben Heavy Metal! Wir sind mit Heavy Metal aufgewachsen. Wir haben sogar in der Schule etwas über Heavy Metal gelernt. Heavy Metal ist unser Lebensstil. Schaut, wir haben den schwarzen Gürtel im Heavy Metal!”

Im April 2024 ist die japanische Punk-Band dann erstmals seit sieben Jahren in Europa auf Tour und gibt auch zwei Konzerte in Deutschland, am 16. April 2024 in Berlin, einen Tag später in Köln.

Akihito Morimito freut sich auf das Wiedersehen:

“Unsere letzte Europatournee war 2019, und wir vermissen Großbritannien und Europa jetzt wirklich sehr. Uns wurde wieder bewusst gemacht, wie sehr wir die Menschen im Westen lieben. Und sie lieben uns, während der Pandemie haben wir so viele Nachrichten von ihnen erhalten. Sieben Jahre Pause sind einfach zu lang. Mit “Inferno” wird in wenigen Tagen das neue Album der Death / Thrash Metal-Band SPEEDKILLER erscheinen. Es ist das erste Album des brasilianischen Trios, das 2020 mit der EP “Midnight Vampire” debütierte.

“Inferno” wird am 8. März als Tape via Helldprod Records erscheinen. Vorab gibt es den Track “Blood Worship” zu hören.

SPEEDKILLER sind Sänger und Gitarrist Yan “Spellcaster” Nielsen, Bassist Allefer “Sküllcrüshër” Rocha und Drummer José “Hellkrätus” Gomes (VECTIS).

Die Heavy / Power Metal-Band BALANCE OF POWER feiert mit dem Studioalbum “Fresh From The Abyss” nach rund zwei Dekaden ihre Rückkehr und stellt mit “One More Time Around The Sun” einen weiteren Track daraus vor.

Als erste Single veröffentlichte die Band im Februar Video zu “Never Be Here Again”, es folgte die zweite Single “Abyss” bei YouTube.

Neu im Line-up sind dabei Sängerin Hazel Jade sowie die beiden Gitarristen Chris Young und Adam Wardle. Während Erstere auch auf dem Comeback-Werk zu hören ist, stießen die beiden Letztgenannten erst nach den Aufnahmen zur Band.

Veröffentlicht wird “Fresh From The Abyss” am 19. April 2024 via Massacre Records.

Die tschechische Brutal Death Metal-Band CUTTERRED FLESH hat nach “Amanda” mit “Descent Into Torment Of Abyssal Whispers” eine weitere Single von ihrem kommenden Album “Love At First Bite” veröffentlicht. Das Album, das mit einem Cover-Artwork von Par Olofsson (u.a. für ABORTED tätig) ausgestattet wurde, folgt auf das jüngste und fünfte Album “Sharing is Caring” (2021) und soll 2024 via Transcending Obscurity Records erscheinen.

Zuvor ist mit “The Symptoms Of Parasite” eine erste Single mitsamt Lyric-Video erschienen. Inhaltlich folgt der Song der Sci-Fi-Reihe “Legie” von den Autoren Frantisek Kotleta und Krystína Snegonova. Aufgenommen wurde der Song von Kristian Kohle und Kai Stahlenberg im Kohlekeller Studio.

CUTTERRED FLESH sind Sänger Jiri Krs (PANDEMIA), die Gitarristen Vitali Novak (PANDEMIA) und David Krombholz, Bassist Zdenek Hnizdil sowie Drummer Frantisek Drazdansky.

Out on March 22nd is the newest Teleskop EP, “Orbit”. The EP from this synthpop duo will be out as download and streaming, and also on CD in a limited edition of 300 copies. The EP holds tracks: “Insomnia”, “Lost Satellites”, “Porcelain Blue” and “Capsules Of Light”.

Teleskop is a band consisting of the brothers Jarmo and Jouni Ollila who have been involved in several famous Swedish acts like Daily Planet, Mr Jones Machine, MZ.412, Burg and Pouppée Fabrikk to just name a few.

“In Orbit” is their second EP under the name Teleskop after the “One” EP and brings you back to the vintage world of 80’s electronic pop.

Das Post Rock / Post Black Metal-Projekt SYLVAINE hat mit “Eg Er Framand” eine neue EP angekündigt. Die EP, mit welcher die in Norwegen lebende Kathrine Shepard einen Ausflug in den Ethereal Norwegian Folk macht, folgt dem vierten Album “Nova” (2022) nach und wird am 22. März 2024 via Season of Mist erscheinen.

Solo-Künstlerin Kathrine Shepard begibt sich mit der EP auf eine introspektive Reise über den reichen Wandteppich des norwegischen Erbes und der Tradition. Aufgewachsen in Norwegen, inmitten der Kontraste zwischen Natur und Urbanität, trat sie oft in der Kampen-Kirche in Oslo auf. Dieses Relikt aus dem 19. Jahrhundert ist auch der Ort, an dem sie “Eg Er Framand” aufgenommen hat. Im Anschluss wurde die EP von Magnus Lindberg gemixt und von Karl Daniel Lidén gemastert. Mit “Eg Er Framand” gibt es nun ein Lyric-Video vom Titeltrack.

Als ersten Vorab-Track gibt es von “Dagsens Auga Sloknar Ut” einen Video-Clip. Der Text wurde 1891 von Elias Blix geschrieben, einem Professor, der zum Politiker wurde und auch Hymnen schrieb.

Mit “Thoughts & Prayers” wird in wenigen Wochen das neue Album der Noise / Punk Rock-Band CNTS erscheinen. Das zweite Album der US-Amerikaner aus Los Angeles kann als Comeback-Album gelten. Denn nach einem verheerenden Autounfall, bei dem Frontmann Matt Cronk sein Stimmband verlor – er konnte nicht mehr sprechen, geschweige denn singen – dachte die Band, dass sie vielleicht aufhören müsste. Während dieser Zeit widmeten sich die Mitglieder von CNTS anderen Projekten, bis Anfang 2023, entgegen den Prognosen der Ärzte, Cronks verletztes Stimmband zu heilen begann und seine Stimme innerhalb von zwei Monaten zurückkehrte.

“Wir haben uns zusammengesetzt und einen Song durchgespielt und es klang gut. Wir spielten weiter, und meine Stimme hielt, klang cool, und wir fühlten uns alle gut, wenn wir zusammen spielten. Es war sofort klar, dass wir es wieder tun konnten, dass wir es wirklich vermisst hatten, zusammen zu spielen, und dass wir es tun wollten”, sagt Cronk. “Für mich persönlich war diese Erfahrung ein wichtiger Meilenstein in meiner Genesung. Nach dem ersten Lied kamen mir die Tränen.”

“Thoughts & Prayers” wird am 29. März 2024 via Ipecac Recordings erscheinen. Vorab gibt es Video-Clips zu “Smart Mouth” und “I Won’t Work For You“.

Mit “De rode weduwe” wird in einigen Wochen das neue Album der Black Metal-Band BEENKERVER erscheinen. Es ist nach “Ontaard” (2022) das zweite Album des niederländischen Solo-Künstlers Niels Riethorst (PLAAGDRAGER, Ex-:NODFYR:, Ex-HEIDEVOLK). Unterstützt wurde der Musiker von Drummer Joris Nijenhuis (LEAVES’ EYES, ATROCITY) und Gast-Sängerin Floor Vandenbrande (NEROTH).

Das Album, welches die Geschichte von Sophia, der roten Witwe, in sieben Kapiteln erzählt, wurde von Spenser Morris (VUKARI) produziert und mit einem Cover-Artwork von Bram Bruyneel ausgestattet. Erscheinen wird das Album am 1. März 2024 via Vendetta Records. Den eröffnenden Titeltrack gibt es ab sofort als Video-Clip.

Die Instrumental Melodic Thrash Metal-Band CRYPTIC CONFINEMENT hat einen Labeldeal bei Sliptrick Records unterschrieben. Im Zuge dessen hat das von Zakk Weathersby betriebene Projekt am 27. Zuvor gab es auch die Tracks “Higher”  sowie “Lotus” als Musikvideo bei YouTube. Sänger Severin Sailer kommentiert:

“[…] Die Essenz des Liedes dreht sich um das tiefgründige Thema des Loslassens von Vergangenem. Dies bedeutet einen transformativen Prozess des Ablegens alter Lasten, Beziehungen oder Überzeugungen, um Platz für neues Wachstum und Veränderung zu schaffen. Die Epic Black / Death Metal-Band SUMMONER´S CIRCLE hat mit “Cult” ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist das vierte Album der US-Amerikaner aus Knoxville und wird am 24. Mai 2024 via Black Lion Records erscheinen.

Das neue Album der Band kann als Anklage gegen religiöse Gruppen und Theokratien auf der ganzen Welt verstanden werden und nennt sie alle als das, was sie seien: Sekten.

Die Melodic Death Metal-Band AS THE SUN FALLS hat mit “Among The Stars” einen Video-Clip von ihrem kommenden Album “Kaamos” veröffentlicht. Es ist nach “Last Days of Light” (2021) das zweite Album der Finnen und wird am 3. Mai 2024 via Theogonia Records erscheinen.

Das Album sei von der mystischen Periode zwischen Dezember und Januar, die als “Kaamos” bekannt ist, inspiriert, wenn die Sonne unter dem Horizont verborgen bleibt und die Landschaft von 10 Uhr morgens bis 15 Uhr nachmittags in ein surreales, bläuliches und violettes Licht der Arktis getaucht wird.

“Kaamos” wurde von Guillaume Schappacher bei Gravity Sound gemixt und gemastert und mit einem Cover-Artwork von Gogo Melone (AEONIAN SORROW, ELYSIA) ausgestattet.

Out now is the “Moving Forward” EP by m o k r o ï é. Released independently, this digital EP also includes a cover of Sisters Of Mercy’s “More” in an ‘ecstatic electronic mix’. The cover comes accompanied by an animated music video that captures the essence of a Californian road trip.

Francesco Virgilio, the founder of m o k r o ï é, utilizes a range of styles from electro-pop to electro-industrial leveraging minimal equipment.

Wenn RAGE im Frühjahr 2024 auf Tour kommen, haben sie ein neues Album dabei: “Afterlifelines”, so der Titel, erscheint am 29. März 2024 über SPV/Steamhammer.

Nun gibt es auch ein Lyrics-Video zu Cold Desire” bei YouTube.

Mit einem Video zu “Under A Black Crown” stellten RAGE den ersten der neuen Songs schon im Januar vor.

Das Doppelalbum besteht aus 21 Songs, inklusive Intro, Interlude und Outro. Die beiden Platten haben unterschiedliche Ansätze:

“Die erste CD heißt ‘Afterlife’ und enthält Songs, die wir als Trio aufgenommen haben, während das Material auf der zweiten CD ‘Lifelines’ auch klassische Orchesterarrangements enthält”, erklärt Sänger und Bassist Peavy Wagner.

Neben Peavy Wagner haben Jean Bormann (Gitarre) und Vassilios “Lucky” Maniatopoulos (Schlagzeug) das Album eingespielt.

Die Doom-Death Metal-Band MOON INCARNATE hat nach “The Tempest” mit “Nemesis” einen zweiten Track ihres kommenden Albums “Hymns to the Moon” veröffentlicht. Es ist das erste Album des in Bonn lebenden Duos, welches aus Christian Kolf (VALBORG, OWL) und Matin Vasari (BEYONDITION, VASARI) besteht. Die Drums wurden von Peter Scartabello (SKY SHADOW OBELISK) eingespielt.

(Photo by Tanguy Quézo) Out now is the Lovataraxx single and video “Tilda Vaast”. “Tilda Vaast” is the first single off “Sophomore”, the new album by the French cold wave and minimal synth duo Lovataraxx. The new album will be released April 5th 2024 via the German label Cold Transmission. The album is the follow-up to “Hébéphrénie” which was released in 2020.

“The song was created a couple of years ago, while I was thinking about my grandmother, after her death,” comments Julien from the band. “My grandmother, Mathilde, was deeply romantic, she was all the time reading soapy Harlequin romances. Sometimes, when she was very old, she didn’t remember that she already read one of those novels so she started over. Sometimes she also pretended that she was reading, in order to be left alone, because she didn’t want to talk. And I noticed : « Gran, you’re holding your book upside down! What are you thinking about ? » And we were all laughing, but she never told us what was on her mind. Mathilde left Algeria before she was forty years old, and settled with the whole family in a grey and industrial town. I guess it was really hard at the beginning. But I feel like, in her thoughts, year after year, she was still over there : a young and free lady walking on the seaside. When she was looking at me, I had the impression that her eyes were deep and vast like the Mediterranean Sea. I proposed once or two times to go all together back in Algeria, but she wouldn’t go. She spent her old age locked away indoors. Whereas, when she was young, she was always outside. Once, after her death, I grabbed a couple of pictures of her, back to the time when she was living abroad , by the sea. And I realized that I hardly knew anything about that person in the pictures. So I gathered a couple of elements in my mind, and this is the story of Tilda Vaast.”

The single is accompanied by a music video directed and produced by Ramataupia featuring actress Ayris Taban.

(By our Norwegian correspondent Jan Ronald Stange / press release Indie Recordings) ‘Elskhat’, the third single from Seigmen‘s upcoming album, is out on February 28th. It’s the opening track on the album ‘Resonans’, and also the first one written back in the summer of 2015. At that time, their previous album ‘Enola’ had just been released, and touring and big festivals were on the horizon.

The search for that magical riff was a constant pursuit. The guitar riff that forms the foundation of ‘Elskhat’ was revealed outside the rehearsal space, played on a deep red semi-acoustic Gibson. The reception was good, so much so that the band realized this riff was the gateway to Seigmen’s next album. Little did they know it would take nine years before the song could be presented in its entirety.

‘Elskhat’ narrates the constant oscillation between extremes and has its roots in songwriter and lyricist Kim Ljung’s state of constant migraines. The contrast between light and dark is always close, akin to black and white, day and night. ‘Elskhat’ leaves no middle ground.

Author and screenwriter Harald Rosenløw Eeg (also known from the electro duo SubGud), a close friend of Kim and the band, was working on the script for his second disaster film for Fantefilm at that time. Earthquakes was the theme. Kim suggested ‘Skjelvet’ (‘The Quake’) as the title and expressed interest in writing a song for the film. It remained an attempt. Time and timing had different plans.

The recording process

In 2018, Seigmen borrowed a house near Karlsvik gård, a picturesque gem near the shoreline outside Tønsberg in Norway. Every room in the house was set up for recording and brainstorming ideas for the album.

For the uninitiated, it was quite an un-Seigmen-like move, but it turned out to be a revelation. ‘Elskhat’ gained the lift, the air, and light it needed.

In a pure bootleg style, the intense and creative days in the house were d믭 the ‘Karlsvika Tapes.’ Everything was just sketches, sounding raw and unfinished. Yet, it undoubtedly gave the band a boost, shaping the form of ‘Resonans.’

The band then returned to the rehearsal space, fine-tuning their aim for the final push before recording at Velvet Recording in Spydeberg in Norway. They were back to the familiar setting and the same studio where they recorded ‘Total’ in 1994 — the time many believe Seigmen truly found their identity. However, an unexpected turn of events occurred. The pandemic and illness stood in the way of continuation, putting ‘Resonans’ on hold.

Seigmen faced their share of setbacks, but the extended delay also provided extra time to refine the songs that make up ‘Resonans.’ The lyrics of ‘Elskhat’ have proven almost prophetic for Seigmen—after the rain comes sunshine, and after a challenging period, it is an ultra-positive and inspired band getting ready to release their first album in nine years.

‘Elskhat’ is also the first song from ‘Resonans’ mixed by Mike Hartung (Propeller), setting the standard for the rest of the songs and defining the album’s sound. Like the rest of the album, the single was recorded at Velvet Recording with Christer Krogh as the technician. The single cover was designed by Sigurd N. Kristiansen, featuring an alternative prophecy created by Kim’s daughter, Nova.

In the domain of astrology, alignments such as planetary conjunctions and oppositions stand as profound indicators, weaving into the very fabric of our existence. These celestial beings, many believe, guide our emotional, intellectual, and spiritual growth, and mould our relationships and personal evolution with their complex energy interplay. Mirroring this cosmic dance, Venus Lucifer, from aux animaux’s new album Body Horror, tells an eerie tale with its music video.

The song delves into the mystical interplay between celestial bodies—most notably the Sun and Venus—and their profound impact on humans’ emotions and amour. It articulates a narrative of enduring romanticism, one that bravely withstands the onslaught of inevitable suffering, all the while underscoring the value of discretion within the depths of these emotional entanglements.

Aux Animaux’s album was inspired by her deep connection to astrology. During the writing process, she explored the nuances of Venus in retrograde as both a morning and evening star. This exploration provided insights into relationship patterns that psychology had failed to provide. The experience fueled her personal understanding and inspired her song “Venus Lucifer”.

As aux animaux explains: “I have been interested in astrology for a long time; both my mom and her best friend are astrologers. During the Venus retrograde this year, while I was writing the album, I read about how having Venus as a morning star (hence, Lucifer) or evening star can affect the kinds of relationship patterns you may have. It provided me with many answers about why I have behaved in certain ways, answers that psychology couldn’t offer, and this inspired the song.”

The spellbinding self-directed visual companion not only complements the theme of star-crossed connections but also emerges as an unexpected harbinger of premonitions.

“Venus Lucifer is a song I’d written for a special someone,” aux animaux adds. “As I edited the last scene of the video, I got devastating news about the person the song was written about. Shot in Los Angeles and Stockholm, unknowingly some of the scenes in the video carries premonition I didn’t know I had. So, it’s mixed feelings, but I wanted to share it with the world, as it comes from a place of true love.”
