Now, following up the haunting romance of his previous single Sophia, Lautenschlager has unveiled another icy track from his forthcoming new album Gilt.

When something is about to go down, one almost needs to give their nervous system a pep talk – particularly if the exchange is public.

The lyrics to the nervous, prickly A Matter of Tact reflect this kind of tale that describes the kind of discretion and restraint needed in a setting where privacy is paramount. The song paints a picture of characters who tread lightly in their interactions, underlining the significance of tactfulness to avoid any embarrassment or shame, all while upholding an exterior of calm and courtesy. Its title and mood resonate with Martin Gore’s introspective style, presenting a contemplation akin to a winding conversation or a persistent thought that echoes in one’s consciousness. “A Matter Of Tact” stands out for its cool, restrained delivery and a clear message, reminiscent of the minimalist vibe found in coldwave gems like Grauzone’s “Eisbär,” Das Kabinette, Legendary Pink Dots, and the early Some Bizarre-era Depeche Mode. Its gothic undertones add a spectral resonance, transforming this uneasy daydream with a touch of the otherworldly.

Profit Prison’s Lautenschlager has endured an arduous trek throughout his life that has ultimately been a fiery crucible, shaping his soul and infusing his latest work with a raw, unfiltered passion. Gilt, the first full-length album from Profit Prison, marks a daring plunge into the mysterious depths of Italo and hi-NRG body music, pushing boundaries and challenging norms. With this bold foray, Lautenschlager intertwines the quintessential elements of Profit Prison – haunting vocals and melodies that nod to the pioneering spirits of synth legends – crafting an ethereal dance odyssey that transcends time and space.

Parker has expanded the temporal scope of his compositions in his recent work, with the majority of tracks now extending to five minutes and culminating in the seven-minute finale of “A.R.P. (Amphetamine Research Project).” This closing piece, an almost progressive disco jam, evokes the essence of a lucid dream set against the backdrop of Studio 54’s legendary dance floor, blending the ethereal with the electric.

Heute hat die Gothic Rock-Band HELL BOULEVARD ihr neues Album „Requiem“ veröffentlicht. Vier Jahre nach ihrem letzten Longplayer lassen sie ihr neuestes Album „Requiem“ auf die Welt los.

Mit „Requiem“ kehren HELL BOULEVARD nach ihrem letzten Album „Not Sorry“, das 2020 veröffentlicht wurde, zurück. Die für die Band typische Mischung aus schamlosen Texten und düsteren, atmosphärischen Instrumenten hat ihnen eine treue Fangemeinde in der Gothic-Rock-Szene verschafft und dieses neue Kapitel wird mit Sicherheit den Durst nach mehr von ihrem unverwechselbaren Sound (vorerst) stillen.

Das WACKEN OPEN AIR vom 31. Juli bis 3. August 2024 ist ausverkauft – nach Angaben der Veranstalter sind 85.000 Tickets verkauft worden.

„Für das Vertrauen unserer Fans sind wir mehr als dankbar und demütig“, kommentiert Veranstalter Holger Hübner. „Die Metalheads wissen, dass wir immer alles geben werden, um ihnen ein grandioses Festival zu bieten.”  Veranstalter Thomas Jensen ergänzt: „Insbesondere nach dem schwierigen Start des Festivals in diese Sommer, bei dem ein Teil unserer Metal-Familie nicht mitfeiern konnte, wissen wir zu schätzen, dass die Community zu uns steht und zusammenhält. Dassjetzt alle 85.000 Tickets weg sind, ist schlicht der Hammer. Wir haben die besten Fans der Welt!“

Die 33. Ausgabe des Open Airs in Norddeutschland steht unter dem Motto „Witches & Warlocks“  – das Thema soll 2024 im Erscheinungsbild, künstlerischen Darbietungen und Programminhalten aufgegriffen werden.

Das Programm der Wackinger Stage verrieten die Veranstalter nun mit einer neuen Bandwelle: Auftreten werden dort CORVUS CORAX, DIE HABENICHTSE, EINHERJER, EQUILIBRIUM, EXTRABREIT, HEIDEVOLK, KOENIX, KUPFERGOLD, SKILTRON, SVARTSOT, TRI STATE CORNER, VANAHEIM sowie VOGELFREY.

Zum Valentinstag lassen die Organisatoren acht weitere Acts aus dem Sack: GENE SIMMONS kommt mit seinem Soloprogramm nach Wacken, außerdem treten BARONESS, MASSIVE WAGONS, ROBSE, WHITECHAPEL, PERSEFONE, PLANET OF ZEUS und BÜLENT CEYLAN auf.

Die ersten Bands fürs Wacken 2024
Auch das Programm des “Wasted Wednesday” auf der Wasteland-Stage steht mittlerweile: Auftreten werden dort EVILE, HELLRIPPER, HITTEN, INFECTED UNION, DEIMOS DAWN, S.D.I. sowie PORTRAIT. Einen weiteren Headliner haben die Veranstalter am 24. Dezember enthüllt: KORN spielen 2024 auf dem Festival. Bestätigt hat man außerdem ARCHITECTS, BEHEMOTH, KK’S PRIEST, MISTER MISERY, PRIMAL FEAR, RAVEN, THE 69 EYES, THE BABOON SHOW sowie THE DARKNESS.

Mit der Bandwelle zum dritten Advent enthüllen die Organisatoren jetzt weitere zehn Acts für das Open Air: AXEL RUDI PELL, BLACKBRIAR, EMBRYONIC AUTOPSY, FEUERSCHWANZ, HALF ME, JESUS PIECE, LIV KRISTINE, MR. BIG, TEXTURES und THE AMITY AFFLICTION sind ebenfalls mit dabei.

Zum zweiten Advent folgte eine weitere Ladung Bands: OPETH spielen 2024 eine exklusive “by Request”-Show, bei welcher die Fans über die Setlist abstimmen dürfen. Mit dabei sind darüber hinaus AS EVERYTHING UNFOLDS, ASENBLUT, BEASTO BLANCO, BETONTOD, BUTCHER BABIES, FIDDLER’S GREEN, NACHTBLUT, SKYLINE sowie VAN CANTO. Davor kündigte das WACKEN OPEN AIR zum ersten Advent einen Schwung neuer Bands an. So spielen 2024 auch TESTAMENT, ARMORED SAINT, DRAGONFORCE, INSOMNIUM, FLOGGING MOLLY, SPIRITBOX, ZEBRAHEAD, APRIL ART, OOMPH! sowie RAGE auf dem Festival. Letztere haben dabei eine besondere Jubiläumsshow zum 40-Jährigen angedacht.

Den Black Friday haben die Organisatoren für eine Reihe neuer Ankündigungen: Neben CRADLE OF FILTH sind 2024 auch NECROTTED, TANKARD, PADDY & THE RATS sowie SUZI QUATRO mit dabei.

SCORPIONS, KORN und AMON AMARTH sind Headliner
Pünktlich zu Halloween bestätigten die Veranstalter am 31. Oktober 2023 sieben weitere Bands für das Festival: TRELLDOM, JUNGLE ROT, INCANTATION, MESSIAH, ENDSTILLE, UADA und SKELETAL REMAINS bilden dabei das Line-up der traditionellen “Night of Dismemberment”.

Die ersten Acts gab es bereits im August: Als Headliner führen SCORPIONS und AMON AMARTH das Billing an. Außerdem wurden IN EXTREMO, BLIND GUARDIAN, BEAST IN BLACK, BLUES PILLS, PRIMORDIAL, WOLF, THE WARNING, RED FANG, SOIL, XANDRIA, VREID (30 Years of Sognametal / exclusive Show for W:O:A), WATAIN; VIO-LENCE (2024 Germany exclusive festival appearance), FLOTSAM AND JETSAM (Special Oldschool Set), EXHUMER, PAIN, EMIL BULLS, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, SICK OF IT ALL (Exclusive 30th anniversary of “Scratch The Surface” show), MAYHEM (Exclusive 40th Anniversary German Festival Show), MOTIONLESS IN WHITE, SONATA ARCTICA, UNLEASH THE ARCHERS, BURY TOMORROW, FUTURE PALACE, ANKOR, JOHN COFFEY, KNORKATOR, BRUTUS, IGNEA sowie ASAGRAUM bestätigt.

Kartenvorverkauf WACKEN 2024 – das Festival ist bereits ausverkauft
Beim Thema Tickets musste man schnell sein: War bereits das WACKEN 2023 innerhalb von fünf Stunden ausverkauft, erschöpfte sich das Kontingent für die 2024er Auflage nach nur vier Stunden. Der Kartenvorverkauf für das W:O:A 2024 bagann am Sonntag, 6. August 2024 um 20 Uhr auf metaltix.com. Um 0.30 Uhr waren alle 85.000 Tickets bereits verkauft.

Die Kategorien im Überblick:
Die auf 10.000 Stück limitieren Faster-Tickets gingen zuerst in den Verkauf. Sie kosteten 333€  inkl. Gebühren, dazu gibt es ein T-Shirt.
Danach startete der Verkauf der Hard-Tickets. Sie kosteten ebenfalls 333€ inkl. Gebühren.

Faster-Ticket und Hard Ticket gelten für das  Festivals an allen 4 Tagen und bieten Zugang zu allen Bühnen. Das Hauptprogramm findet von 31. Juli 2024 bis  3. August 2024 statt. Camping ist im Ticketpreis enthalten, campen darf man ab 29. Juli, bis 4. August am Mittag müssen die Campgrounds verlassen werden.

WACKEN TICKET REFUND 2023
Für alle, die es 2023 nicht auf das Festivalgelände geschafft haben, weil sie den Anreisestopp berücksichtigt haben, wird es eine Erstattung geben. Details sind noch nicht klar, am 6. August schreiben die Veranstaler in einer Pressemitteilung:

„Es schmerzt uns sehr, dass ein Teil unserer Metal-Familie nicht mitfeiern konnte“, erklärt Holger Hübner. „Doch leider war dieser Schritt unvermeidbar, damit das Festival überhaupt stattfinden konnte. Die wahren Helden und Heldinnen des W:O:A sind deshalb die, die zu Hause blieben oder umkehren mussten.“

Thomas Jensen ergänzt: „Umso mehr freuen wir uns, dass das diesjährige Wacken Open Air zu einem bemerkenswerten Erlebnis mit unzähligen Gänsehautmomenten, grandiosen Konzerten und einem wahnsinnigen Gemeinschaftsgefühl wurde. Die große Solidarität in unserer Community und weit darüber hinaus erfüllt uns mit Dankbarkeit.“ Metalheads, die nicht am W:O:A 2023 teilnehmen konnten, wird der Preis ihres Tickets erstattet. Außerdem bekommen sie ein Vorkaufsrecht auf die Tickets für das Wacken Open Air 2024.

Liebe Ticketinhaber*innen,

trotz aller Bemühungen mussten wir heute früh morgens den endgültigen Einlass-Stopp für das Wacken Open Air 2023 auf Grund der aktuellen Wettersituation und den Auswirkungen auf das Festivalgelände bekannt geben. Alle Ticketinhaber*innen, die das Festival aufgrund dessen nicht besuchen können, werden den Ticketpreis rückerstattet bekommen (einschließlich WOA 2023, Bauer Uwes Garten 2023, Residenz Evil 2023, Wheels of Steel 2023, Wacken United 2023, Wacken United Catering 2023).  Mit Informationen zu allen weiteren buchbaren Produkten versorgen wir euch, sobald diese uns zur Verfügung stehen. Ausführliche Informationen über den Rückerstattungsprozess – und auch darüber, wann ihr Fans mit der Erstattung rechnen könnt – werden in Kürze bekannt gegeben. Wir wissen, dass viele von euch große Anstrengungen unternommen haben und eine lange Reise hatten, um das Wacken 2023 zu besuchen. Wir wollten nichts mehr, als mit 85.000 Metalheads auf unserem holy ground zu feiern. Aber bei den anhaltend schwierigen Bedingungen haben wir die maximale Besucherzahl erreicht, die wir in diesem Jahr unterbringen können. Wir hoffen von Herzen, dass wir euch im nächsten Jahr in Wacken begrüßen können.

Am 22. März 2024 erscheint das neue HAMFERÐ-Album”Men Guðs hond er sterk” via Metal Blade Records. Nun haben HAMFERD auch ein Video zu “Hvølja“ geteilt. “Hvølja” bedeutet auf Deutsch “Walhaut” und ist laut Gitarrist Theodor Kapnas der dunkleste Song, den die band je geschrieben hat:

“Ich finde es fasznierdemd, Dinge immer rauer, schmutziger und hässlicher zu machen. Musikalisch dreht sich in diesem Song alles um Spannung, schwebende Akkorde und angespannte Harmonien, immer verbunden mit einem Gefühl der Unsicherheit. Dieser Song ist vielleicht mein Lieblingssong auf der Platte, einfach weil er so kompromisslos ist. Alles ist auf 11. ‘Hvølja’ ist der düsterste und hässlichste Song, den wir bis jetzt geschrieben haben. Er steht für eine Welt, die von monströsen Strömungen zerrissen und von einem schwarzen Himmel verschlungen wird.”

Mit einem Video zu “Ábær” hat die Death/Doom Metal-Band von den Faröer Inseln schon Anfang Februar einen ersten Song daraus vorab im Netz vorgestellt.

WHEEL stellen mit einem Clip zu “Disciple” einen dritten Song ihres kommenden Albums vor. Das dritten Studioalbum der Progressive Metal-Band heißt “Charismatic Leaders” und erscheint am 3. Mai 2024.

Das Video zu “Empire” steht bereits seit März als Preview bereit., der Visualizer zu “Porcelain” seit Anfang April.

Die Aufnahmen mit den Toningenieuren und Co-Produzenten Daniel Bergstrand und Fredrik Thordendal dauerten von August bis Dezember 2023, im Anschlus skümmerte sich Forrester Savell um den Mix.

Die Band feiert die Veröffentlichung ihres neuen Albums mit Konzerten in Australien im Vorprogramm von CALIGULA’S HORSE und Headliner-Konzerten in Nordamerika. Im Herbst touren WHEEL in Europa.

Die Allstar-Band BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION hat sich nach sieben Jahren wieder zusammengetan, um gemeinsam Musik zu machen. Ihr neues Studioalbum „V“ wurde für den 14. Juni angekündigt. Die 2009 gegründete Supergroup besteht aus GLENN HUGHES (DEEP PURPLE, BLACK SABBATH, TRAPEZE), JOE BONAMASSA, Derek Sherinian (DREAM THEATER, SONS OF APOLLO)und Jason Bonham (LED ZEPPELIN, FOREIGNER, SAMMY HAGAR).

Die angeschwärzte Heavy-Metal-Band MORGUL BLADE veröffentlicht am 26.4.2024 ihr zweites Album “Heavy Metal Wraiths” auf No Remorse Records. Die Heavy / Speed Metal-Band FATAL FIRE hat einen Labeldeal bei MDD Records unterschrieben. Im Zuge dessen werden die Deutschen aus Frankfurt ihr erstes Album “Arson” veröffentlichen, welches am 28. März 2024 erwartet werden darf. Produziert wurde das Debütalbum von Markus Teske. Mit “Kingslayer” gibt es nun eine erste Single zu hören.

Die Mittelalter Rock-Band SALTATIO MORTIS hat ein neues Studioalbum angekündigt: “Finsterwacht” ist ein Konzeptalbum, das im Universum des Pen&Paper-Rollenspiels “Das schwarze Auge” spielt. Hierfür arbeitete die Formation mit den Autoren Bernhard Hennen und Torsten Weitze zusammen. Ein Musikvideo zum neuneinhalbminütigen Titeltrack gibt es jetzt bei YouTube. Zu hören ist auch Gastsänger Hansi Kürsch (BLIND GUARDIAN).

Bei der “Finsterwacht” handelt es sich um eine Kette von Wachtürmen in Aventurien, dem Fantasy-Universum, in welchem “Das schwarze Auge” angesiedelt ist. Neben dem Album erscheint auch ein Roman sowie eine Rollenspiel-Kampagne zum namengebenden Szenario.

SALTATIO MORTIS selbst haben für “Finsterwacht” mit dem “The City Of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra” zusammengearbeitet, um ausgewählte Stücke zu untermalen. Außerdem steuern Hansi Kürsch (BLIND GUARDIAN), PEYTON PARRISH, FAUN und Cristina Scabbia (LACUNA COIL) Gastbeiträge bei.

“Finsterwacht” erscheint am 31. Mai 2024 auf CD, Vinyl sowie digital. Außerdem ist Sammelbox erhältlich, die neben der CD-Fassung im Digipack auch Autogrammkarten, den Roman “Die Feuer der Finsterwacht”, ein Würfelset sowie den Rollenspielband “Der letzte Sieg der Schwänin” enthält. In Letzterem ist Sänger Alea als reisender Barde als spielfertiger Charakter enthalten.

Stockholm post-punk stalwards Then Comes Silence are back with their brand new single Ride or Die, accompanied by a video directed bu aux animaux’s by Gözde Duzer. The track, which stands as a bold declaration of solidarity, friendship, and community, heralds the arrival of their seventh studio album, Trickery, soon to be released by Metropolis Records.

The video, set against the backdrop of a purple-hued parking garage, showcases the band in a playful yet mysterious light, donning masks reminiscent of something akin to Love and Rockets’ The Bubblemen. This setting provides a canvas for the band’s vibrant and graffiti-inspired lyrical manifesto, encapsulating the song’s spirit of fellowship and resilience.

Musically, “Ride or Die” strikes a balance between brightness and an icy post-punk clarity, maturing into a somber yet steadfast anthem. It celebrates the unbreakable bonds of friendship, echoing the sentiment that, come what may, we persevere together—Ride or Die. This song encapsulates the essence of enduring together against all the odds, a theme deeply woven into the fabric of the upcoming album Trickery.

Founded in Stockholm in 2012 by Alex Svenson and inspired by a blend of horror, the occult, touring with acts like A Place To Bury Strangers, Then Comes Silence has evolved into a formidable force within the goth and post-punk scene. Joined by Jonas Fransson on drums and Hugo Zombie on guitar, the band continues to forge connections through their music, celebrating the sense of belonging and unity within the dark music community.

Recorded at Stockholm’s Kapsylen Studio by Jörgen Wall and mixed by Tom van Heesch, Trickery is a testament to the band’s roots in punk and alternative rock, enhanced with electronic elements that bring a fresh dynamic to their sound. Following their 2022 album Hunger, Then Comes Silence is set to captivate audiences once again with their dark, compelling melodies and evocative themes.

With a history of touring alongside renowned acts and performing at major festivals, Then Comes Silence is poised to take ‘Ride or Die’ and the rest of their new material on the road, embarking on an extensive North American tour with Vision Video from late April through May.

Die Hard Rock / Power Metal-Band FIREWIND hat mit “Stand United” ein neues Album herausgebracht. Es ist das zehnte Album der Griechen und ist am 1. März 2024 via AFM Records erschienen. Zum Release teilte die Gruppe ein Musikvideo zum Titeltstück “Stand United” bei YouTube.

Vorab gibt es nach den Video-Clips zu “Destiny is Calling“, “Salvation Day“, “Come Undone” und “Fallen Angel” nun auch ein Lyric-Video zu “Chains” bei YouTube.

“Ich würde ‘Stand United’ nicht gerade als klassisches Konzeptalbum bezeichnen, aber der Albumtitel deutet an, worum es uns thematisch geht”, erklärt Bandgründer Gus G. “Diese Welt scheint immer mehr aus dem Gleichgewicht zu geraten, mit den Umweltkatastrophen, den Pandemien, den Kriegen, die derzeit überall auf dem Globus wüten. In solchen Zeiten ist es wichtiger denn je, dass die Menschheit zusammenhält, anstatt sich gegenseitig zu bekämpfen.”

“Stand United” wurde von Dennis Ward produziert und mit einem Cover-Artwork von COSTIN CHIOREANU ausgestattet.

Die Sludge / Hardcore-Band HORNDAL hat mit “Head Hammer Man” ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist nach “Remains” (2019) und “Lake Drinker” (2021) das dritte Album der Schweden.

Mit dem Album erzählt die Band die bisher unbekannte Geschichte von Alrik Andersson, einem Gewerkschaftsführer aus der der Heimatstadt der Band, Horndal, um 1900, und seiner Rolle im Großen Streik. Zu der Geschichte von Andersson wird HORNDAL auch ein Buch schreiben, das das Album begleiten wird.

“Dies ist bei weitem unser ambitioniertestes Album, sowohl musikalisch als auch textlich”, erklärt die Band. “Wir begannen mit zwei Fragen: 1. Kann man ein Metal-Album mit Sounds machen, die von Jazz-Schlagzeugern aus den 60ern inspiriert sind? Offensichtlich! 2. Kann dieses Album die unerzählte Geschichte darüber erzählen, wie die Ereignisse in unserer verrosteten Heimatstadt beinahe einen Bürgerkrieg in Schweden ausgelöst hätten? Nein, man muss auch ein Buch schreiben. So we did.”

“Head Hammer Man” wurde von Simon Söderberg im Mayfire Studio gemixt und von Magnus Lindberg in den Redmount Studios gemastert. Erscheinen wird das Album am 5. April 2024 via Prosthetic Records. Vorab gibt es eine Video-Clip zu “Blacklisted“, zu welchem die Band sagt:

“Als der gewalttätige Große Streik von 1909 vorbei war, hatte es unser unbesungener Held geschafft, die Arbeitsplätze und den Lebensunterhalt seiner Arbeitskollegen zu retten. Aber nicht seine eigene. Er stand in ganz Schweden auf der schwarzen Liste und wurde ins Exil gezwungen. Er floh mit seiner Frau und seinen kleinen Kindern über den Atlantik. Die Musik ist so schwer und düster wie der Text.”

Tapping into the revolutionary spirits of rock and roll luminaries like Elvis Costello, The Rolling Stones, Elton John, and the new wave quirks of The Cars, Split Enz, and The Tubes, San Diego “Border Goths” The Slashes carve out their niche in the post-punk landscape with a distinctly modern twist. Their latest anthem, “Limo Tint,” changes up their usual hi-octane sound and plods slowly in a more contemplative, dirge-like pace.

The genesis of Limo Tint lies in the profound sorrow and void left by the passing of a cherished friend, a pain that is both deeply personal and universally understood. This track stands as an indelible mark left by those we’ve lost, encapsulating the tumult of emotions that accompany such a loss. The haunting melodies and the solemn cadence of the song mirror the complex layers of grief as a spirit leaves for the next realm, serving as a cathartic outlet for the band members’ raw, unfiltered emotions. Limo Tint transforms their anguish into art, offering a poignant tribute to their friend’s memory, and in doing so, they find a semblance of solace and a way to keep their friend’s spirit alive within the notes and lyrics.

“Her passing really affected me, it was written in her perspective, she was saying goodbye,” reflects vocalist Esteban Rene.

Limo Tint by The SlashesCaptured at the vibrant Suplexaudio, the recording and mixing magic for Limo Tint was conjured by Manny Nieto alongside The Slashes, with the mastering finesse provided by Dave Gardner.

In 2015, The Slashes, featuring Esteban Rene on guitar and vocals, Beto Bautista on bass, and Carlos Robles on drums, debuted with a self-titled album. Produced by Alan Sanderson, known for working with The Rolling Stones and Elvis Costello, the album showcased their raw, adrenaline-fueled sound. Embracing a unique identity, the trio dubs their sound “Border Goth,” a moniker that hints at their dark, edgy aesthetic and geographical influences.

The Slashes’ debut album earned critical acclaim and a Best Rock nomination at the San Diego Music Awards. They’ve since rocked Southern California, playing at renowned venues like Santa Ana’s The Observatory, LA’s Rainbow Bar, and San Diego’s The Casbah.

Olli-Pekka „Oppu“ Laine (AMORPHIS, BARREN EARTH, MANNHAI) kombiniert mit seiner neuen Band Death Metal mit 70er Prog und Psychedelic Rock: OCTOPLOID veröffentlichen am 5. Juli 2025 2024 ihr Debütalbum “Beyond The Aeons” via Reigning Phoenix Music (RPM). Die erste Single, “Human Amoral” erscheint am 19. April 2024.

Laine berschreibt “Beyond The Aeons” so:

„ Meine musikalischen Wurzeln liegen im Metal der 80er und 90er Jahre sowie im Progrock der 70er. Das alles angereichert mit Psychedelic- und Stoner-Rock, so kann man  »Beyond The Aeons« eigentlich ganz gut beschrieben. Ich habe lange davon geträumt, für mich ganz alleine Musik zu machen, weshalb OCTOPLOID ein wichtiger Schritt   in meiner Karriere sind. Für das Albums brauchte es jedoch den richtigen Zeitpunkt, die richtigen Mitstreiter und die richtigen Einstellung.“

Für OCTOPLOID spielt Olli-Pekka Laine nicht nur Bass, sondern auch Keyboard und Gitarre, auch den Gesang hat der Finne selbst aufgenommen. Zur OCTOPLOID-Besetzung gehören außerdem Schlagzeuger Mikko Pietinen (MANNHAI, KASMIR), Gitarrist Peter Salonen (THE KINKY THING), Keyboarder Kim Rantala (ex-AMORPHIS) und Sänger Mikko Kotamäki (SWALLOW THE SUN), der die Band bei Konzerten unterstützt.

Da werden ebenfalls keine Gefangenen gemacht. “De Rode Weduwe” legt mit einem Schrei, Blast Beats und finsterem Riffing, ergo kompromisslos traditionellem Black Metal der alten Schule, los, dass es eine helle Freude ist, und auch wenn ich bei aller Liebe nicht verstehe, wieso man den schlechtesten Song des Albums an den Anfang stellt und dann noch ein Video dazu dreht – er macht wirklich unmissverständlich klar, worum es BEENKERVER hier geht: Gewalt.

“De Rode Weduwe” bietet starken traditionellen Black Metal mit kleinen Schwächen
Ja, hier wird geknüppelt und gebrettert, nicht nach Atmosphäre oder gar Kunst gesucht – Niels Riethorst (ex-HEIDEVOLK) haut mit seinem Solo-Projekt BEENKERVER einfach mal auf die Kacke. Und da er zum Glück nicht vergisst, dabei auf ausreichend Abwechslung in puncto Tempo und Melodie zu achten (mit “Brenn mij haar Hoofd” z.B. einen langsameren Song an zweiter Stelle platziert zu haben, zahlt sich aus, und das Schlagzeug zeigt sich stellenweise angenehm variabel), wird “De Rode Weduwe” so schnell nicht langweilig; der geneigte Hörer findet immer wieder Momente, für die sich das Mitwippen beim klassischen Gebretter gelohnt hat – wenn das nicht schon für sich genommen genug ist, um den ein oder anderen Durchlauf zu genießen.

Doch, es lohnt sich, auch wenn für meinen Geschmack noch mehr Midtempo und Melodie verwendet hätte werden können und der Sound – insbesondere die kratzigen Gitarren – mir dann für die Langzeitwirkung irgendwo nicht durchschlagend genug ist (man vergleiche z.B. die ähnlich riffbetonten Alben von BLACKBRAID – da ist einfach mehr Wumms hinter). Für den ganz großen Wurf reicht es so noch nicht, für einige “Ker, ganz schön geil!”-Momente aber doch (Sophias großer Auftritt in “Vergane rozen” z.B. ist so einer, und auch das Finale ist ganz stark), und so kann ich mir gut vorstellen, dass BEENKERVER mit diesem Album den ein oder anderen Holland-Touristen begeistern dürften.

Die Post Hardcore / Modern Metal-Band VENUES veröffentlicht ihr neues Album “Transience” am 29. März 2024 via Arising Empire auf CD, Vinyl sowie digital. Aufgenommen wurde die Platte mit Produzent Christoph Wieczorek (Sawdust Recordings); eine Hörprobe in Form des Clips “Godspeed, Goodbye” steht via YouTube bereit.

Darüber hinaus teilte die Gruppe das Stück “Unspoken Words”. Außerdem stehen “Radiate Me”, “Oblivion” sowie “Haunted House” als Musikvideo bei YouTube bereit.

Zuvor gab es im Herbst 2022 bereits die Single “Cravings”. Auch zu diesem Song hat die Gruppe einen Clip gedreht. Sängerin Lela kommentiert:

“‘Cravings’ wurde darüber geschrieben, sich von einer Sucht zu befreien. Dabei spielt es keine Rolle, ob es sich um Drogen, materielle Dinge oder Menschen handelt. Sich von dem zu befreien, was einen nur in den Abgrund treiben kann, ist nicht einfach, denn die Sucht trägt oft einen strahlenden Schleier, der die Augen vor der Realität verschließt. Diesen Schritt zu wagen und sich zu verabschieden, ist anstrengend und sehr mutig. ‘Cravings’ zu schreiben, hat mir Mut gemacht, und ich hoffe, dass es das auch für andere tut oder sie zumindest dazu inspiriert, sehr ehrlich zu sich selbst zu sein.”

Darüber hinaus stellten VENUES das Stück “Reflections” mit einem Musikvideo bei YouTube vor. Sängerin Lela erklärt die Bedeutung des Tracks:

“In ‘Reflections’ beschreiben wir den Prozess der Selbsterkenntnis. Wenn einem mit der Zeit immer wieder klar wird, dass nur man selbst derjenige ist, der einem wirklich helfen kann. Und man so lange einen Spiegel vorgehalten bekommt, bis man annehmen und verstehen kann, was man darin sieht. Denn nur so kann man über sich selbst hinauswachsen.“

“Reflections” folgt auf das Studioalbum “Solace“, das im Sommer 2021 via Arising Empire erschienen ist.

The new album will be promoted with a UK tour in April that consists of eight shows with Empathy Test.

About Black Nail Cabaret

Black Nail Cabaret is an electro-pop noir duo from Hungary, established in 2008 with members Emese ‘Emke’ Arvai-Illes (vocals) and Krisztian Arvai (keyboards). The group initially formed in Budapest and later spent several years based in London. Sophie Tarr, an original member responsible for keyboards, left the duo in 2016 to pursue her own music project. The band’s music, often described as visual synthpop or synth noir, sometimes incorporates experimental elements.

Before forming Black Nail Cabaret, both performers were involved in the Budapest industrial/cyber party scene and co-founded a small theatre group, Art Macabre, in 2005. This group, focused on horror-themed stage performances, found success with shows at the Merlin Theatre in Budapest. These early experiences contributed to the concept of Black Nail Cabaret as a theatrical musical project.

IN APHELION haben ein neues Album angekündigt: “Reapterdawn” soll im Spätsommer erscheinen.

Der Nachfolger des 2022er Albums “Moribund” wird via Century Media veröffentlicht, die schwedische Death/Black Metal-Band hat vor kurzem einen Plattenvertrag bei dem Label unterschrieben.

Die Band wurde 2020 von Sebastian Ramstedt und Johan Bergebäck (beide von NECROPHOBIC) gegründet, zur Besetzung gehören außerdem der niederländischen Schlagzeuger Marco Prij (CRYPTOSIS) und Bassist Tobias Cristiansson.

Nachdem die früheren Veranstalter des WITH FULL FORCE FESTIVALS in diesem Jahr mit einem neuen Festival namens FULL REWIND in Dresden im Schlachthof ihr Comeback eingeläutet haben, kehren Sie nun an den Flugplatz Roitzschjora zurück, wo das WITH FULL FORCE von 1999 bis 2016 stattgefunden hat.

Das FULL REWIND 2024 findet vom 2. bis 4. August statt. Geplant sind zwei Bühnen, ein zu Fuß erreichbares Campinggelände, die Veranstalter versprechen außerdem faire Preise – und die legendäre Erdbeer-Bowle. Die Psychedelic Metal-Band HOWLING GIANT hat mit “Juggernaut” einen weiteren Song ihres aktuellen Albums “Glass Future” veröffentlicht. Es ist nach “The Space Between Worlds” (2019) das zweite Album der Band und am 27. Oktober 2023 via Magnetic Eye Records erschienen.

Diving into Psychic Graveyard’s lineage, with members hailing from bands like Arab On Radar, Chinese Stars, Some Girls, Doomsday Student, and Hot Nerdz, merely scratches the surface of what this band is about. Their music—edgy and electrifying—serves as a counterpoint to the bleak, dispassionate landscape shaped by today’s media. Yet, amidst their disruptive sound, certain elements remain steadfast: Charles Ovett’s unwavering dynamism on drums sets the pace; Nathan Joyner and Paul Vieira layer in gritty, pulsating rhythms with their raw synths and reimagined guitar sounds; and Eric Paul, with his versatile vocal prowess, brings to life an array of characters, from ethereal specters to edgy surrealists, each navigating the stark reality of a world at odds with itself.

Today, Psychic Graveyard announces a brand new LP entitled Wilting (due June 7) and shares its first single, “Your Smile is a Hoax.” 

The band found inspiration in a Butthole Surfers riff and took it from there, complete with a fuzzed-out bass guitar.

“Over the years, we’ve realized that our songs are birthed in pairs,” reflects the band. “Your Smile is a Hoax is the sister to another Psychic Graveyard track off this upcoming album called Haunted By Your Bloodline. Both feature the use of two low-register instruments playing off of each other, with a higher synth note popping obnoxiously out of the mix. We feel as though it helps keep the chaos grounded. Those higher swirl elements come from a forgotten field recording of an ambulance passing by Nate’s house in San Diego. Lyrically, it fills in the listener on some of our experiences as an afflicted band in today’s world, traveling all over the place while we’re wounded, but somehow having a blast while we’re out there—bleeding everywhere.”

The video is a strange animation reminiscent of R. Crumb and 60s concert posters, sure to lull those into an altered state.

With a manic output of four full-length albums—Loud As Laughter, A Bluebird Vacation, Veins Feel Strange, and Wilting–in nearly as many years, this creative juggernaut is just getting started. Post-Punk.com had a few questions for Psychic Graveyard regarding the new single out now via Artoffact Records:

You said “higher swirl elements” in “Your Smile is a Hoax” come from a recording of an ambulance in San Diego. Are there lots of sounds in life that make it into your music, and do you think the geography of where you write and record affects what you’re making?

Quite a few field recordings make it onto our releases.  We compose music by recording things and then chopping them up and reassembling them. Sometimes it’s just a click or a pop from someone moving the recorder.  We find  “life” sounds add a human feel to our digital workflow. We live very far away from each other and rely on technology to communicate our ideas. With that. YES! Where we are, definitely affects the outcome of what we’re making.  Not because of the environment. It’s because we can communicate in real time. On the rare occasions that we are in the same room working on ideas, we notice they have an audible difference to our ears.  Not to mention it speeds up the workflow tenfold.  The foundational sounds we create in different locations stay pretty consistent. No matter where we are. No matter what environment.

How does “Your Smile is a Hoax” compare to the rest of the sound we can expect from the album?

Don’t trust it! HA! Most of our albums have phases. WILTING is no different. There’s a gamut of emotions it passes through and circles back again. We even went in directions none of us had ever gone in before. We were terrified while making it. But I love every moment of the finished version. We hope some others will dig it too!

You said the main impetus for creating this song was the craving for a fuzzed-out bass guitar. Which usually comes first for you- music or lyrics?

For Psychic Graveyard,  it’s always a very loose musical idea. Someone has a sound they’ve made.  Let’s see if we can make this resemble a song.  If we can, we move on to vocals and lyrics.

While creating their latest LP, Wilting, Psychic Graveyard traversed the distances between Providence and San Diego, and now they beckon listeners to look beyond their impressive backgrounds and dive into the vibrant, uneasy dreamscapes they conjure. The delightfully enigmatic Please Don’t Tell stands cloaked in the allure of a secret too compelling to keep. Nestled in the quaint embrace of Charlottesville, VA, this trio’s repertoire, a whimsical blend of nocturnal worries, folkloric charm, and the kind of mischief one might expect in a dimly lit Victorian parlour, emerges from an unlikely medley of acoustic instruments. And yet, for all the spectral echoes of yesteryear that dance beneath their tunes, there’s a timeless quality to their music, suggesting it might have effortlessly found its place in the annals of history, serenading an era that never knew it needed them, without so much as a discordant whisper.

At the helm of this clandestine affair is Christina Fleming, a master of melody who doubles as both the lead vocalist and pianist, crafting tunes that beckon the listener closer with the promise of untold tales. For a fleeting moment, the ensemble blossomed into a trio, with Nicole Rimel’s cello and Anna Hennessy’s violin and vocals adding layers to their one-night symphony, an arrangement so enchanting it stubbornly refused to disband.

In the absence of drums, the ensemble finds its rhythm in Fleming’s dynamic piano play and her expansive operatic voice, a combination that fills the air with an unexpected vibrancy. The trio, with their eclectic backgrounds, converge in a sound that looms large, drawing from the grandeur of classical and choral music, the dark allure of goth club nights, and the earthy undertones of bluegrass that whisper of their Central Virginia roots. The revelation that these musicians are as at home in the gritty ambiance of underground punk venues as they are under the refined lights of The Kennedy Center should hardly raise an eyebrow among those tuned in to their diverse range.

The lyrics of their songs oscillate between the compelling tales of remarkable women and intimate contemplations, unearthing the sort of stinging quips that are typically concealed within adversity. At times, they abandon any guise of humor, confronting the listener with the stark, unvarnished truths of Fleming’s musings on our precarious human condition. Yet, more often than not, the somber themes are laced with a sharp, modern wit that deftly targets tyrannical spouses and dissects the mental dilemmas pervasive in today’s society. The group’s sound is profoundly shaped by their eclectic musical tastes, which span a broad spectrum from Mozart and Rasputina to Kurt Weill, Tom Waits, Cab Calloway, and Edith Piaf. This diverse palette informs their modern chamber-pop aesthetic, evoking parallels with acts like The Divine Comedy, Duke Special, and Rufus Wainwright. Their unique approach to music embraces a gothic romanticism, infused with whimsy and charm, and is reminiscent of a Sweeney Todd-like twist, sugarcoating blistering melancholy with enchantment, whimsy and Schoenhut toy pianos.

This brilliant, bizarre album opens with Nearsighted, which expresses a deep sense of internal emptiness and loss, likening the singer’s soul to a desolate graveyard. This internal landscape is marked by a profound stillness and the absence of pain, but also by loneliness and a longing for connection, symbolized by the contrast between wild roses and neglected graves.  The video for the chilling Heave Ho, directed by Mariah Johnson, asks us to examine our realities: is the dear widower in the clip being supported by care givers, haunted by spirits, or drowning his own grief? Was it all a dream?

Blueshift depicts a preference for the night over the day, highlighting the night’s comforting embrace that harbours the singer’s fears and dreams. Contrasting the day’s harshness, the night’s gentle nature offers solace and an attentive ear, embodying a peaceful sanctuary where the moonlight transforms perception, casting everything in a serene, blue hue.

The lyrics to the tragic The March of Grace Fryer poignantly reflect the horrible story of the “Radium Girls,” who were factory watch dial painters who suffered from radium poisoning from the glow in the dark paints they used. Their initial pride transformed into a harrowing reality of physical decay, yet they ironically maintain a haunting elegance. The song critiques societal attitudes towards their plight and the dismissive justifications for their suffering, ultimately depicting them as glowing, disintegrating specters, reminders of a grave injustice. This danse macabre is a reminder that these workplace injustices persist today, and these little ghosts serve as a warning tale.

The lyrics of St James Infirmary depict a mournful visit to a lover’s final resting place, evoking a mix of sorrow and bravado. The narrator requests an extravagant funeral, reflecting a life lived with flair. Amidst the somber setting, there’s a defiant celebration of the self, with the recurring wish for the departed to find peace, yet underscored by the narrator’s assertion of their irreplaceability.

Finally, a sense of shock and turmoil comes through My Therapist following the narrator’s therapist’s suicide. This unexpected tragedy intensifies the narrator’s existing struggles, leaving them feeling even more isolated and desperate for support. The vivid and unsettling details about the therapist’s death amplify the sense of loss and confusion, highlighting the complex emotions tied to such a personal and traumatic event.

Next time you’re taking a walking tour of the cemetery, play this one loudly and see whose spirit you may summon.

Die Symphonic Melodic Death Metal-Band WINTERSUN um Mastermind Jari Mäenpää hat die Arbeiten an ihrem neuen Album “Time II” abgeschlossen. Erscheinen wir die Platte am 30. August 2024 und damit rund zwölf Jahre nach dem ersten Teil “Time I” (2012).

Den Vorverkauf handhabten WINTERSUN ursprünglich über die Crowdfunding-Plattform indiegogo.com, wo das digitale “Time Package” verfügbar war. Darin enthalten ist auch das Album “Time II” in verschiedenen zusätzlichen Versionen (“Dynamic, Instrumental, Isolated Tracks sowie Single-Versionen”) und mit hochauflösendem digitalen Booklet. Zudem gibt es Demo-Sammlungen und einen neuen Mix des Vorgängers “The Forest Seasons” (2017). Weitere Extras und Inhalte will die Formation im April 2024 enthüllen.

Außerdem wird “Time II” via Nuclear Blast auf CD sowie Vinyl veröffentlicht – Vorbestellungen hierfür sind seit Anfang Juli 2024 möglich.

Jari Mäenpää kommentiert die Platte und verspricht Großes:

“TIME II ist eine epische Reise von Licht zu Dunkelheit und zurück zum Licht, die das Universum und die Energie erkundet, dunkle stürmische Landschaften mit ruhigen und schönen Kirschblütenbaumgärten und nebligen, schneebedeckten Bergen kontrastiert, die dich atemlos zurücklassen. Es gibt Lieder mit rasender Geschwindigkeit von Drums, Gitarren und Bass sowie wunderschöne melodische langsamere Lieder mit einem magischen exotischen Einfluss. Es beinhaltet massive Orchestrierungen und Chöre, gewürzt mit alten Weltinstrumenten und glitzernden Synthesizern. Es zeigt Jaris kraftvollen, klaren Gesang im Kontrast zu seinem aggressiven Stil. Es ist ein sehr detailliertes und komplexes Album, bei dem du bei jedem Hören Neues entdecken wirst.”

Swedish dark-pop outfit Principe Valiente returns with “Something New,” the premiere single and video from their forthcoming fifth album, In This Light. This latest work signifies a daring evolution in the band’s journey, which spans over a decade, showcasing a refined blend of their transcendent post-punk soundscapes and dark gothic tones that first launched them onto the alternative scene with their 2011 self-titled debut.

The new single “Something New” is a beacon for the band’s new direction, showcasing a more pop-oriented and straightforward approach than their previous works. The track is characterized by Principe Valiente’s signature soaring guitars coutersy of Jimmy Ottosson, which resonate with the grandeur of a string section. Suave frontman Fernando Honorato’s velvety vocals glide over the instrumentation, echoing a classic Hollywood charm reminiscent of a black-and-white era where a captivating performance steals the spotlight.

The accompanying video for “Something New” presents a cinematic experience, with Honorato commanding the stage with a presence akin to the legendary crooners, serenading a lady in the audience who is lost in the music’s allure. “In This Light” promises a rich symphony of mellotrons, samplers, and analog synths, all in perfect harmony with the celestial twang of Jimmy Ottosson’s Rickenbacker 12-string and Gretsch guitars. This lush musical landscape is further enhanced by melodic piano lines, a distinctively distorted driving bass, and enveloped by the enigmatic vocals of Fernando Honorato.

In May, Metropolis Records will unveil the band’s forthcoming new album, and if this new single is anything to go by, it promises to be yet another showcase of their enduring artistry and meticulous craftsmanship within the international post-punk scene.

Was sich wie eine Kampfansage liest, sind eigentlich eher mahnende Worte. „You can’t keep living like Death can wait“, offenbart Sänger Joel Quartuccio im Refrain den kompletten Kontext des Titelstücks. Wir mögen im Moment leben, doch unsere Vergänglichkeit zu vergessen, wäre ein Fehler. Schließlich ist unsere Zeit kostbar und ein Privileg, das es zu ehren gilt.

Keine ganz leichte Kost also, die BEING AS AN OCEAN auf ihrem sechsten Album in zugänglicher Weise aufbereiten. Zwischen modernem Post und Melodic Hardcore wandelt „Death Can Wait“ selbstbewusst und feinfühlig; überrascht zunächst mit dem zuckrigen Alternative Rocker „Beautiful Agony“ und begibt sich dann doch in gewohnte Bahnen. Spoken-Word-Passagen im Stil von LA DISPUTE gehen über in catchy Melodiebögen, welche wiederum mittels harter Eruptionen durchbrochen werden.

Optimismus und Melancholie liegen auf “Death Can Wait” nahe beieinander
Diese Bandbreite hält „Death Can Wait“ trotz seines eingängigen Grundcharakters frisch, zumal die Instrumentierung im Hintergrund durch so manches Detail besticht. So schlägt „Swallowed By The Earth“ Haken im Sekundentakt, wohingegen „Purest Love“ auch mal sanfte Pop-Harmonien unter harsche Screams legt. Ausdrucksstark und ehrlich ist der Gesang derweil in jedem Fall, weshalb wir das Duo letzten Endes auch mit teils betont süßlichen Arrangements davonkommen lassen.

Was zählt, ist letzten Endes die Authentizität, die einem emotionalen Track wie „Flesh And Bone“ aus allen Poren tropft. Erst zerbrechlich, dann aufgebracht-verzweifelt und schließlich mit einem Anflug von Melancholie führen uns BEING AS AN OCEAN durch eine turbulente Gefühlswelt, die dennoch Zuversicht zu spenden vermag. Ihren Charakter behalten die US-Amerikaner somit auch im sechsten Anlauf bei: Indem Optimismus und Melancholie auf „Death Can Wait“ nahe beieinanderliegen, übersetzt die Band das textliche Konzept stimmig auch in die musikalische Ebene.

Das geschieht mit Konsequenz: Tragen manche Passagen zugegebenermaßen doch etwas dick auf, findet sich eine entsprechende Kurskorrektur meist nur wenige Takte entfernt. Es scheint fast so, als möchten uns BEING AS AN OCEAN auch hier an unsere Vergänglichkeit erinnern: Selbst die süßesten Momente unseres Daseins sind nicht von ewiger Dauer. „Mit einem Bein im Leben und dem anderen im Grab“, heißt es im Titeltrack „Death Can Wait“: Fürs Erste kann der Tod warten. Fragt sich nur, wie lange noch?
