DARGOR ist eine melodische Black-Metal-Band aus Krosno, die im Jahr 2019 gegründet wurde. Die Band kombiniert den atmosphärischen und melodischen Sound der Gitarren mit Keyboards und aggressivem Gesang und Schlagzeuglinien. Schwere und Aggression werden mit Melancholie und einer dunklen Atmosphäre ausgeglichen. Die Texte drehen sich hauptsächlich um die Sinnlosigkeit unserer Existenz, die illusorische Wahrnehmung des Lebens und negative Emotionen. Die Hauptinspirationen sind Gruppen wie Samael, Naglfar, Ajattara, Dimmu Borgir und Summoning. Die Band hat zwei Alben veröffentlicht, die beim belgischen Label Meuse Music Records erschienen sind: „Descent Into Chaos“ (2021) und „Ascend To Infinity“ (2022).

THE VISION BLEAK kehren mit ihrem siebten zurück. „Weird Tales“ ist eine Hommage an das gleichnamige amerikanische Pulp-Magazin und andere Geschichten voller Mystik und dunkler Fantasie. Das Album besteht aus einem einzigen Track, der in interne Kapitel unterteilt ist, die jeweils von seltsamen Geschichten, Gedichten und anderer Literatur des Horrors und des Makabren inspiriert sind.

Und hier ist mein einziger Kritikpunkt an dem Album, es besteht nur aus einem Track. Das mag künstlerisch nachvollziehbar sein, ich bin da einfach kein Fan von und springe „Kapitel“ lieber auch mal direkt an. Ansonsten ist das Album ein Genuss zu hören. Wie von THE VISION BLEAK gewohnt, gibt es hohe dunkle Tonkunst für die Ohren. Wer Bands aus dem Umfeld des Duos um Gitarrist, Bassist und Sänger Markus Stock alias Ulf Theodor Schwadorf sowie Schlagzeuger und Sänger Tobias Schönemann alias Allen B. Konstanz kennt, weiß um das Flair und die Qualität. Man findet musikalische Einflüsse aus allen anderen Bands hier irgendwie wieder, es ist aber ein typisches THE VISION BLEAK Album von den Stilen her mit den mystischen und Horror-Elementen, die der Musik eine spezielle Atmosphäre verleihen.

Bestes Beispiel, was einen so erwartet, ist für mich die Vorabauskopplung von „IV & V“. Gefällt euch die, gefällt euch das Album bzw. auch alle anderen Alben von THE VISION BLEAK bzw. die Musik von z.B. EMPYRIUM oder SUN OF THE SLEEPLESS 🙂 Also reinhören! (eller)

Die erste Ausgabe der Originalausgabe von Weird Tales erschien am 18. Februar 1923. In der Blütezeit des Magazins in den 1920er und 30er Jahren wurden bahnbrechende Werke aus den Bereichen Fantasy, Science Fiction und Horror veröffentlicht. Autoren wie H. P. Lovecraft, der mehrere seiner Geschichten über den Cthulhu-Mythos in der Zeitschrift veröffentlichte, Robert E. Howards Conan der Barbar sowie andere berühmte frühe Autoren wie Robert Bloch, Clark Ashton Smith und später Ray Bradbury verschafften Weird Tales einen legendären Status.

Auf „Weird Tales“ beziehen sich THE VISION BLEAK auf H. P. Lovecraft und Clark Ashton Smith, spielen aber auch auf Autoren an, die nie in der Zeitschrift vertreten waren, zum Beispiel Edgar Allen Poe und Lafcadio Hearn, dessen „Fantastics and Other Fancies“ sehr einflussreich für dieses Album war.

Alfred Kaenders, founder of the Geldern (DE) based electro-industrial label Celtic Circle Productions is no more. He died a few days ago.

The sad news was announced by Bruno Kramm (Das Ich) on his Facebook page.

Bruno: “Today, I learned about the far too early death of one of the scene’s originals, Alfred Kaenders. As the founder of the Celtic Circle Productions label in the nineties, in recent years he was especially ubiquitous at festivals with his perfume and jewelry stands. Alfred had a very eventful life story with many highs and lows, many legendary tales and incidents, but always with his mischievous smile that I will never forget. My thoughts are with his family. Farewell, old friend.”

The label which launched its first productions in 1992 originally was the home to Inertia, Yelworc, AmGod and many other groups of the early and mid-nineties. The label also had a sub-label, Khazad-Dûm, and produced compilation releases for Side-Line, Gothic Grimoire and Vertigo. The label ceased operations in 1998 after experiencing financial difficulties.

Is it ever enough your turns and passes?
Bathed in the dreamy glow of nostalgia and contemporary soundscapes, Secrecies‘ latest offering, “Fashion Week,” unfolds like an ethereal dream within the hazy realms of David Lynch’s cinematic universe. It’s easy to envision this track echoing through the dimly lit, enigmatic ambiance of the Road House in Twin Peaks, where the lines between the surreal and the real blur into obscurity.

“Fashion Week” is a gauzy tune woven with threads of ’60s pop sensibilities, the introspective depth of shoegaze, and dream pop. It’s a track that would seamlessly blend into a playlist featuring the likes of Cocteau Twins, Lush, Slowdive, and Ladytron, yet it stands out with its own contemporary flair that bridges generations. The Palace of Tears – Veiled Screen, Woven Dream

 

New Orleans dark duo The Palace of Tears presents their sophomore album ‘Veiled Screen, Woven Dream’, a hauntingly beautiful, ghostly and sensual experience.

This fan-funded seven-track album represents “the transformational fires of the Phoenix archetype and the cyclic nature of death and rebirth”. A transmission of aural experiences and transmutational frequencies, it is previewed by the bewitching single ‘The Embers of Your Being Glow Still’ and spectacular video for the title track.

The Palace of Tears is Leah Kahn aka LV Darkling (vocalist, lyricist) and Erick r Scheid (guitars, electronics, engineering), who met in Germany in 2018 when Erick was performing with his band Mercurys Antennae at the world-renowned WGT Festival. After a collaborative exercise in co-writing long distance, the duo released their debut album ‘Of Ruination’ in 2020 with Erick also moving from the Bay Area to join LV in New Orleans.

Delving into hidden truths and secrets, pain and grief from personal loss, and the soul’s journey, ‘Veiled Screen, Woven Dream’ is informed by personal experiences and tragedy, including an unforeseen and agonizing turning point in its creation. Yet this process became a crucial component in the process of moving through grief and pain towards healing.

This record is an exploration of your shadow-self and entering the realm of darkness and the unconscious and subconscious, which lay just beyond our conscious awareness. The lyrics incite contemplation of the soul’s journey as it departs from this mortal coil, beholding that mystery of the veil between the seen and unseen worlds.

“This album is dedicated to my brother, best friend and soulmate Kirk, who left this Earthly realm last October. I would be remiss to not mention my own recent personal loss, as I would be denying and omitting the special place that it holds in the journey of the making of this album. I truly have never known grief until now. There are songs on this album that remain difficult for me to listen to, let alone actually perform and sing, as I usually end up in tears,” says LV Darkling.

“As vulnerable as it is to share some of this here, I am propelled by the deep spiritual connection that he and I held throughout our lives. He is inherently a part of this work, perhaps collaborating with us from beyond. I hope that by channeling this and honoring those we love, it can provide a healing catalyst and human connection can be unearthed.”

With somber beauty and otherworldly seduction, The Palace of Tears fuses hypnotic electronics, heavily layered processed guitars and operatic contralto vocals that captivate, creating an ethereal sonic amalgam that transcends temporal boundaries. Their unique alchemy blends elements of ethereal wave, gothic rock, shoegaze, dark ambient and electronica, encapsulated within a lush cinematic soundscape.

No stranger to the world of performance, New Orleans native LV Darkling is a classically-trained dancer and vocalist, who brings a varied and textured approach to her singing and songwriting, pulling from her many disciplines in the performing arts.

Erick r Scheid is best known for his band Mercurys Antennae (Projekt Records), who released 3 albums and 2 EPs, as well as performing at Whitby Goth Festival, All Tomorrows Ghosts and WGT Festival. A self-taught recording engineer, Erick has been writing and producing music since 1989, and has also composed film soundtracks, performed and written scores as a live musician for dance performances, touring extensively throughout the US.

Having toured the USA, The Palace of Tears has shared the stage with artists such as Kaelan Mikla, Pink Turns Blue, AL1CE, Solar Fake, Rosegarden Funeral Party, The Veldt, Slow Crush, Dead Leaf Echo, Pilgrims of Yearning, Astari Nite, The Waning Moon and The Neuro Farm, in addition to performing at Dark City Festival (New Orleans) and Dark Castle Festival (Louisville).

As of April 8, the ‘Veiled Screen, Woven Dream’ album is available on CD, limited edition vinyl and digitally directly from the artist via Bandcamp.

Manche Leute haben alles Glück der Welt. XASTHUR-Gründer Scott Conner zählt leider nicht dazu. Die offene Wunde seines Lebens blutet in einem konstanten klanglichen Ausfluss erst in sein neues Album "Disharmonic Variations" hinein – und von dort wieder heraus. Die dreizehn bitteren, dreckigen, schmerzhaften und manchmal auch ein wenig hoffnungsvollen Songs sind natürlich auch keine hübschen "Goldberg Variationen". Vielmehr ist der Titel "Disharmonic Variations" ("Disharmonische Variationen") zugleich Botschaft und Programm. Musik ist nicht einfach das, was Scott macht. Er führt kein Bilderbuchleben. Für ihn und in ihm gibt es nur die Musik – ohne die der amerikanische Hüne vermutlich auch nicht mehr auf dieser Welt weilen würde. Scott schreibt und nimmt nicht bloß die üblichen 8 Songs im Jahr auf. Sondern er macht Musik in jeder Stunde und an jedem Tag einer Woche in seiner eigenen Zeit und auf seine eigene Art; und zwar das ganze Jahr über. Scott spielt analog und nimmt auch so auf – auf die harte, altmodische Tour, während sich Ausrüstung und Instrumente in dem Zimmer stapeln, in dem er gerade haust. In diesem musikalischen "Stream of Consciousness", diesem Tagebuch eines Künstlers, sind alle Gedanken zu einem bestimmten Stil ein Luxus, den Scott weder hat noch hegt. Seine aktuelle Ausdrucksform auf "Disharmonic Variations" tendiert zum bitteren Geschmack der Dark Folk Americana mit einem vereinzelten Ausreißer in den Ambient-Sound. Es wird nie eine Garantie für die Richtung geben, die XASTHUR als nächstes einschlagen. Was auch immer noch passieren wird, hängt allein davon ab, was Scott Conner dann fühlt. Der Sänger und Multiinstrumentalist rief XASTHUR ursprünglich im Jahr 1995 ins Leben. Obwohl das Projekt im sonnigen Kalifornien, USA seinen Anfang nahm, bewegte es sich anfangs in der Dunkelheit des nordischen Black Metal der zweiten Welle. Im Jahr 2010 gab Scott das Ende von XASTHUR bekannt und kehrte mit einem akustischen Dark Folk Projekt unter dem Namen NOCTURNAL POISONING zurück. Dessen Alben wurde später unter dem Namen XASTHUR neu veröffentlicht. Im Jahr 2015 nahm der Amerikaner den Faden mit XASTHUR wieder auf, betonte aber, dass seine Black Metal Tage vorbei seien. Diese Aussage wurde mit der letzten Veröffentlichung "Inevitably Dark" (2023) teilweise revidiert – einfach nur, weil Conner wieder Lust auf etwas Black Metal hatte. Mit "Disharmonic Variations" liefern XASTHUR ihre nächste Scheibe ab, die unter dem Motto "Nehmt das Album so wie es ist oder lasst es bleiben" entstand. Scott Conner ist es egal, was andere über seine Musik denken. Er kann nicht anders. Ob er verflucht oder gelobt wird – Conner macht immer nur das, was er gerade will, und das ist und bleibt seine wahre künstlerische Leistung.

With the release of their latest video for “Soaked in Pastel,” House of Harm reaffirms their knack in blending the quintessential elements of post-punk with their unique modern sensibilities. The Boston-based trio, known for their shadowy pop inclinations, delivers a piece that resonates with the depth and dynamism characteristic of their work.

The song’s opening guitar riff immediately transports listeners to the golden era of UK post-punk, invoking memories of legendary bands like The Sound and The Chameleons. The intricate interplay of guitars, reminiscent of Reg Smithies’ iconic riffs, creates a forward-moving energy that’s both nostalgic and fresh. It’s this dynamic fusion that ignites the track with a resolve to confront the unseen, making “Soaked in Pastel” a tune that gets the blood churning with both fire and ice.

Frontman Mike Rocheford’s vocal delivery is a study of contrast and harmony. His voice, imbued with a restrained romance, exudes a palpable passion and power that’s further amplified by the complementary, unstrained harmony from his overdub. This vocal arrangement adds a layered richness to the track, enhancing its cinematic quality.

Rocheford provides insight into the genesis of “Soaked in Pastel,” sharing that, “The lyrics of the song are written about a series of images in dreams I was having at the time, which contrasts with the more raw instrumental behind them. Although the subject matter is relatively light, there is an undercurrent of deceitfulness that feels seductive.”

As one of House of Harm’s finest works, “Soaked in Pastel” is a testament to the band’s ability to craft music that’s both simple and profound. The song’s structure, while straightforward, encapsulates a breadth of depth and emotion, establishing it as a significant track in their discography.

The accompanying video, directed by Chris O’Konski, mirrors the song’s ethos in its simplicity and effectiveness. Set in a sepia-toned, warehouse-like space, the visual oscillates between feelings of confinement and boundlessness. The slow, swirling camera movement captures the band in a dreamlike haze, where the boundaries between reality and imagination blur. The tour kicks off on November 22nd at The Shacklewell Arms in London, UK, setting the stage for a series of performances in iconic venues like the Kazimier Stockroom in Liverpool and The Tin in Coventry. The band then crosses into mainland Europe, with stops that include the storied Chelsea Club in Vienna and Robot in Budapest, before wrapping up the tour with a night at Berlin’s Urban Spree on December 6th

Die Sludge-Band BLACK TUSK hat ihr siebtes Studioalbum “The Way Forward” angekündigt. Es ist die erste Veröffentlichung mit dem neuen Bassisten Derek Lynch, der wie Gitarrist und Sänger Chris “Scary” Adams als vollwertiges Mitglied aufgenommen wurde. Letzterer zeichnet zudem für Produktion und Mix der Platte verantwortlich.

Mit “Breath Of Life” haben BLACK TUSK nun einen weiteren Song veröffentlicht.

Bereits vor einiger Zeit teilte die Band die Singles “Dance On Your Grave” und “Brushfire”.

Die Progressive Rock-Band DARKNESS IS MY CANVAS hat einen Labeldeal bei Rockshots Records unterschrieben. Im Zuge dessen werden die Finnen ihr neues Album “The End of Times” veröffentlichen, welches im Oktober 2024 zu erwarten sein wird.

“The End of Times” ist das erste Album der Band, die zuvor zwei EPs veröffentlicht hatte. Vorab gibt es mit “Rejected” ein Lyric-Video.

“Wenn wir Songs schreiben, wollen wir immer ein Gefühl der Hoffnung vermitteln, egal wie dunkel das Thema auch sein mag. “Rejected” ist ein Beweis für diese Philosophie und erinnert die Hörer daran, dass es selbst in den dunkelsten Zeiten immer einen Hoffnungsschimmer gibt”, sagt Gitarrist Panu Pentikäinen.

Das Stück folgt auf den Vorab-Track “Angry God Of Earth” bei YouTube. Entnommen ist die Nummer dem kommenden Album “Dzikkuh”, das am 24. Mai 2024 via Rising Phoenix Music erscheinen wird.

Horst Franz ist nach langer und schwerer Krankheit verstorben. Der Veranstalter des BANG YOUR HEAD FESTIVALs und des ROCK OF AGES FESTIVALs wurde 60 Jahre alt.

Horst Franz Ehefrau teilte am 9. April 2024 dieses Posting:

Die ersten BANG YOUR HEAD Festivals fanden in den Jahren von 1996 bis 1998 in der Tübinger Stefan-Hartmann-Halle statt, danach wurde es zum Open Air auf dem Messegelände in Balingen. 2023 wurde das letzte BANG YOUR HEAD aus wirtschaftlichen Gründen abgesagt. Das Foto oben zeigt einen Screenshot aus einer YouTube Videobotschaft aus dem Jahr 2022, als Horst Franz bekannt gab, dass das 2022er BYH auf das folgende Jahr verschoben werden muss.

Das ROCK OF AGES  hatte 2006 seine Premiere, mit Unterbrechungen während der Corona Pandemie 2020, 2021, 2022 fand das Festival jedes Jahr in Seebronn bei Rottenburg am Neckar statt.

Unser Beileid gilt allen Hinterbliebenen, RIP Horst Franz.

Das Psychedelic / Ambient-Projekt HARVESTMAN von STEVE VON TILL hat mit “Triptych: Part One” den ersten Teil einer Album-Trilogie angekündigt. Der Drei-Album-Zyklus wird regelmäßig zu drei Vollmonden des Jahres 2024 – dem Pink Moon am 23. April (via Neurot Recordings), dem Buck Moon am 21. Juli und dem Hunter Moon am 17. Die Psychedelic Doom Metal-Band UFOMAMMUT kündigt ihr zehntes Studioalbum “Hidden” für 17. Mai 2024 an. Die erste Single-Auskopplung “Leeched” ist als Visualizer-Clip bei YouTube verfügbar.

Gitarrist Poia kommentiert:

“‘Leeched’, der erste Song des neuen Albums Hidden, repräsentiert perfekt die neue Richtung von UFOMAMMUT, die mit dem Album Fenice begann und mit der EP Crookhead fortgesetzt wurde, und bekräftigt einmal mehr, dass es keine Ausfälle oder Zögern in unserer klanglichen Forschung gibt. Die Verschmelzung von Heaviness und Psychedelia, eine Obsession der Band seit ihren Anfängen, nimmt in ‘Leeched’ eine neue, veränderte Form an.”

Mit “Kismet” gibt es nun auch einen zweiten Vorab-Song als Lyric-Video.

“”Kismet” repräsentiert das göttliche Schicksal, das Gott für uns vorherbestimmt hat, es verkörpert das Konzept des Schicksals und dessen, was vor uns liegt”, erklärt die Band. “Es ist (daher) einer der tiefgründigsten Tracks des Albums, der sich mit der Reise des Lebens selbst beschäftigt. Wie kaskadenartige Wasserfälle, die nach dem Himmel streben, oder Tropfen, die zur Sonne aufsteigen, nur um sich in den Weiten des Universums aufzulösen, bewegt sich unsere Existenz stetig durch die Zeit und strahlt Licht und Energie aus, die unsere Umgebung durchdringen.”

“Hidden” wurde im Flat Scenario Studio in Piemonte aufgenommen und erscheint via Neurot Recordings/Supernatural Cat Records auf CD, Vinyl sowie digital. Mix und Mastering übernahm Lorenzo Stecconi.

“Out of Time and Space” wurde von Alex Di Nunzio in den NMG Recording Studios produziert und wird am 3. Mai 2024 via Willowtip Records erscheinen.

Während der Entstehung ihres neuen Albums veröffentlichen WARDRUNA die Single „Hertan“ samt Musikvideo als Vorgeschmack auf ihr nächstes Werk. Das skandinavische Wort für Herz ist in der Tradition der Band fest verankert, welche mit diesem Lied den Beginn eines neuen Zyklus ankündigt. Das Lied erforscht den Rhythmus des Pulses, der in allen Formen des Lebens und in der Natur sichtbar ist, sowie das Herz als Lenker unserer Entscheidungen und wahren Wünsche.

Für die Videoproduktion von „Hertan“ hat sich die Band erneut mit dem finnischen Regisseur und Fotografen Tuukka Koski zusammengetan. Koski führte bereits bei den Videos für „Raido“, „Voluspá“ und „Grá“ Regie. Die Produktion fand hauptsächlich während einiger eisiger Nächte auf der Insel Hailouto in Nordfinnland statt.

Frontmann Einar Selvik äußerte sich zum Video:

“Es ist immer eine große Freude, mit Tuukka und seinen Kollegen von Breakfast Helsinki Kunst zu schaffen! Seine Erfahrung und sein Auge für Details sowie seine Fähigkeit, immer wieder neue Ideen hervorzuzaubern, sind sehr inspirierend. Es wurde drei Tage lang an drei verschiedenen Orten gedreht, ohne Schlaf, aber mit viel Herz. So ist es abgelaufen.”

Mit „Hertan“ beginnt nun eine neue Ära in der Schaffenshistorie der Gründer eines ganz eigenen Musikgenres.

Die Heavy Metal-Band SULPHUR AND MERCURY hat einen Labeldeal bei Time To Kill Records unterschrieben. Im Zuge dessen werden die Italiener am 12. April 2024 ihre neue EP “Alchemia Prophetica” veröffentlichen. Es ist der erste Release der 2021 von Gitarrist Francesco Conte (THE PUBLIC RADAR, NERO OMEGA, Ex-KLIMT 1918) und Sänger Jason Netherton (MISERY INDEX, Ex-DYING FETUS) gegründeten Band. Weitere Band-Mitglieder sind Bassist Marco Mastrobuono (HOUR OF PENANCE, CAMERA OBSCURA TWO) und Drummer Dario Casabona (GRIEFBRINGER, Ex-SCHIZO). Mit “Venereal Levitation” gibt es nun ein Lyric-Video.

“Das Lied erzählt die Geschichte einer Séance, die 1889 in Providence, Rhode Island, stattfand und bei der eine Person versucht, einen toten Geliebten in dem Haus aufzusuchen, in dem er gestorben ist. Die Séance verwandelt sich schnell in einen transzendentalen Alptraum, als der Geist mit der Beschwörerin Kontakt aufnimmt und sie kontrolliert. Er bringt sie zu Höhen des Schreckens und der Ekstase, während die Welten der Lebenden und der Toten während der Zeremonie in Form eines erotischen Alptraums aufeinanderprallen”, erklärt die Band.

Zuvor ist mit “Lightless Slumber” die erste Vorab-Single erschienen.

“Das Lied erzählt die Geschichte eines Sehers, der den Schlüssel findet, um das “Tor des lichtlosen Schlummers” zu öffnen – ein interdimensionales Portal zu jenseitigen Reichen, das sich tief in der alten arabischen Wüste befindet. Er berichtet von seiner Reise durch das Tor und in die dunklen Gefilde, in denen alte Götter schlafen und namenlose Kreaturen in namenlosen Städten hausen”, sagt die Band.

I’ve got a personal diety, a holy spirit.
With their pure post-punk sound, the Texas-based band, Blood Bells, return with a music video for “Holy Spirit (Communion).” The track, in all its unwavering force, calls back to the days of positive punk, when bands such as Sex Gang Children and Death Cult mixed the ammo of punk with the solemnity and dramaticism of bands such as Bauhaus. Clint Jerome’s vocals echo the stern melancholy of Red Lorry Yellow Lorry‘s Mark Sweeny, while the ferocity of the song is akin to Killing Joke‘s Revelations album. Stripped down to the most intrinsic of elements, Blood Bells are turning back the clock to a time when simplicity was sacred and bands were fueled on pure raw power.

The music video for “Holy Spirit (Communion)” reflects the organic themes of their album, Now the Dawn, set deep in the woods, far from the bustle of society. They’ve gone back to the basics.

“Rund um die Veröffentlichung unseres letzten Albums ‘Heads Will Roll‘ gab es eine Menge innerer Unruhen in der Band, die mit dem Ausstieg von Bassist Jyri Helko eskalierten. Auch ich hatte ein ziemliches Motivationstief und brauchte ein paar Monate, um durchzuatmen und die Begeisterung für die Musik wiederzufinden. Aber mir, Joonas (Kosonen, Gesang) und Oce (Oskari Niemi, Schlagzeug) war schnell klar, dass wir die Band weiterführen und weiterhin gemeinsam Musik machen wollten. Und ich kannte genau den richtigen Mann, den ich für den Posten am Bass anrufen konnte.

Silver und ich kennen uns schon lange, ich glaube, wir waren 15, als wir Amoral gründeten. Ich habe ihn immer als einen der besten Riffkomponisten im Metal angesehen, daher wusste ich, welchen Wert er mit seinem Songwriting zusätzlich zu seinem lächerlich tighten Bassspiel in die Band einbringen würde. Und der Beweis liegt auf der Hand, ihr müsst euch nur ‘Killer & The Queen’ anhören, für das Silver die Musik komponiert hat.”

Die Modern Metal / Deathcore-Band DEATH CLUB hat den Opener “Bring Me Home” ihres aktuellen Albums “Betrayal” als Video-Clip veröffentlicht. Es ist das erste Album des kanadischen Trios, welches aus Drummerin Chelsea Todd (IT COMETH, Ex-DEAD BEYOND FEAR), Sängerin und Gitarristin Dana Bowman (MITOCHONDRIA, Ex-DEATH PERCEPTION) sowie Bassist Adam Baldwin (FLESHGUZZLER, Ex-DEATH PERCEPTION) besteht.

“Betrayal” ist am 28. März 2024 via Boonsdale Records erschienen.

“Dieses Album sollte jeden ermutigen, der von anderen im Stich gelassen wurde, sich im Stich gelassen fühlte oder den Wunsch nach Rache verspürt hat. “Betrayal” – das Konzept und der Name des Albums – drückt den Verrat in jedem Song auf seine eigene Art und Weise aus. Manche sind weniger offensichtlich als andere, denn Verrat ist nicht immer so offensichtlich”, erklärt Sängerin Dana Bowman.

Die Progressive Metal-Band CAELI CONCEPT hat einen Labeldeal bei Wormholedeath unterschrieben. Im Zuge dessen werden die Franzosen ihr neues Album “Lunaison” am 19. April 2024 veröffentlichen. Vorab gibt es zu “Буря” ein Video.

“Lunaison” ist nach “The Dark Playground” (2021) das zweite Album der von Bassist Benoit Serret und Gitarrist Clément Réviriego gegründeten Band. Beteiligt an den Aufnahmen waren unter anderem auch Drummer Thomas Hilaire, die Saxophonisten Emilie Klipfel und Cyril Prevost, Posaune-Spieler Olivier Viseux, Trompeten-Spieler Nicolas Renard sowie Sänger Yann Ligner (KLONE).

PER WIBERG (SPIRITUAL BEGGARS, Ex-OPETH) hat mit “Blackguards Stand Silent” ein Lyric-Video seines neuen Albums “The Serpent’s Here” veröffentlicht. Es folgt der 2021er-EP ” All Is Well In The Land Of The Living, But For The Rest Of Us… Lights Out” nach und ist nach “Head Without Eyes” (2019) das zweite Album des Schweden, der bei den Aufnahmen von Drummer Tor Sjödén (VIAGRA BOYS) und Bassist Mikael Tuominen (KUNGENS MÄN) unterstützt worden ist.

“The Serpent’s Here” wurde von Jonas Kjellgren in den Blacklounge Studios gemixt und gemastert. Erschienen ist das Album am 15. März 2024 via Despotz Records.

Eric and Jeremy Hanes set up Spankthenun in 2019. The duo released an impressive number of top notch singles, albums and remixes. Dealing with a powerful mix of EBM and Dark-Electro the Hanes-brothers never stopped improving their work. The last year self-released album “The Bunker Tapes Vol.III” was a new masterpiece driven by solid bass lines, icy sound treatments, danceable rhythms and harsh vocals. I asked a few questions to Eric Hanes to get a bit more details about Spankthenun.

Q: Let’s traditionally start by asking you about the background of Spankthenun? How did the project saw the daylight and what  brought you together?

We knew we wanted to do something with music but the original idea was more of a Love And Rockets meets Joy Division, with a full band. We experimented with that format for a while and had fun with it. We had trouble holding onto the guitar player and the drummer and stopped playing but kept writing. A number of years later I started experimenting with drum machines, DAWs and synths and started putting a new concept together. Writing a bunch of tracks, but with no plan for release. In 2019, I sent a few demos out to different producers looking for help with mixing and mastering… we ended up with a bunch of tracks, including a collab with Claus Larsen; he really helped us see the potential of what we had. He helped explain a few things to us that really set us on our journey. We worked with Scott Fox (iVardensphere) on mixing the album; he taught me the basics, and we pulled together the first album, which we released as Spankthenun.

Q: I think you set up Spankthenun in 2019 and already released an impressive number of works featuring three albums. How comes you’re that prolific and what means music vs. Spankthenun to you?

Eric:The first artist that agreed to work with us on a remix or production was Zoog Von Rock, he really gave us the confidence to push things forward and do it for real. Next, Claus Larsen agreed to work on “Rotting Meat” and took the time to help us understand songwriting better. We knew how to get what sounded good to us, but we didn’t really understand the concepts of melody and choruses and repeating what worked. Claus helped us understand that in a way that never made sense to us. The original “Rotting Meat” track we sent him did not have a chorus, he identified a hook in a random bridge we did and turned that into a chorus with a very strong hook that is powerful in the live shows and the club.

As soon as I wake up I go into the studio and work for an hour on something new. I also like to end the day in the studio, especially if I am dead tired. I find that time to be a super creative time. I often create a complete track in an hour if I start on it at 2 am and in bed by 3 am. Other times, I get two or three good sketches down, and I forget about them until a few days or weeks later when I discover them again. There is something about being tired and being creative. I rarely get ‘writer’s block’. I subscribe to the David Lynch way of combating it. Keep your space you work in conducive to creativity and ideas. Have different things to work on when something isn’t working out. So, if I get stuck on a track or can’t come up with a good hook to get started. I’ll switch over to another artist’s track and remix, or I’ll switch over to the graphic side of things and design an album cover.

Q: Can you give us details about your perception of sound? Do you’ve a specific way of working together and references plus sources of inspiration when writing your music?

Eric: I have to have a hook in our songs; I put a hook in every song. Usually, it’s a bassline. Our basslines are often the melody of the track, too. I start with the bassline and kick and get a hook that works. if it works on that basic level, I keep working on it. I spend about 10 minutes doing that; if it doesn’t work in 10 minutes, I dump it and move on to a new one. Industrial music gives you some liberties to use more noise and unconventional sounds, so sometimes I like to take the bassline and transpose to a weird glitch or white noise or machine sample and bury the hook in there.

We can write separately but write tracks that still work together. I will create a set of sounds that we both use. I create a template with a kick and percussion, snares, a bass, and a lead sound. So we are working with the same template many times.

Q: Your newest album “The Bunker Tapes Vol.III” is the last part to a trilogy dealing about ‘a fictitious 30 year career of a band that never really existed, covering influences from 1994 – 2024.’ What is it all about and how did you transpose the concept of this trilogy into music?

Eric: I have a strong affinity for the 1994 Industrial club music, something about that era really speaks to me, but I also am really hooked on modern new music and pushing the boundaries on what is labeled Industrial or Dark-Electro music. We came up with the concept at the beginning of Covid in early 2020 right after we released our first album. My brother sent my 8 tracks in less than a week that nailed that 1994 sound. We had about 20 songs within a month and realized we needed to split these up. That is when it occurred to us not just to focus on 1994 but to make something that transcended eras and moved us into the modern world of Industrial-Bass, Cyber-Punk, and EDM.

Eric: In the scheme of things the ‘music industry’ has been around for the blink of an eye. Less than 100 years and even those 100 years we have seen it dramatically shift; the last big shift was with smartphones and putting any music we want to listen to at our fingertips. When our kids group up, they will never know about record stores and physical media; it won’t make sense why you would have those. In reality, those existed for a very short amount of time. But many people grew up with that and still want that, and it’s nostalgic, and it’s how they know things work. Streaming is here to stay, anyone can upload music. The reality is that 60% of uploaded music is never listened to. You still have to put in the work to get your music heard. We have opportunities to reach more people than ever before. Right now, releasing one track at a time makes the most sense. More people want a single bite than the whole album. Fewer people want 12 songs than 1 or 2 songs at a time. I am fascinated by the marketing side of things and enjoy solving that challenge.

When we switched from an album release strategy to a single release strategy, we went from less than 500 to 20,000 streams a month within three months. With singles, we get added to new playlists and saves every week; with an album, it’s one and done. The old release strategy doesn’t make sense to most new artists. We still do make physical media for the fans who really want it. With this album, we added some exclusive tracks to the physical media that are not on the digital stuff. This world we live in has always been an adapt-or-die world.

Q: I think the artwork must be very important as well. Tell us a bit more about this aspect and what did you want to express?

Eric: The artwork is also important to me; I like seeing that cool, dark, weird image pop up on the phone or the display in the car when listening to something new; it adds to the atmosphere of the track. Early on we worked with different artists on art concepts. We worked with a now very popular fantasy artist known for his work on Magic: The Gathering and D&D. Then we started seeking out more obscure artists that were just getting started. But the reality is we are finishing a new track every week, and we need so much art that it is just easier for me to do it most of the time. I do enjoy doing it and it gives me another way to explore the vibe of a track while I am working on it. Many artists I do remixes for will tell you I also do a remix of the artwork.

Q: I noticed you already announced new live dates in the US. What kind of live band is Spankthenun and how does a live performance looks like? 

Eric: We did some shows earlier this year and are locking in dates for the summer. We just played a show with LEATHER STRIP, which was something we have wanted to do for a long time. Bring things full circle for us. The crowd at that show was great and energetic. Our goal is to have fun, get the crowd shouting the lyrics back at us, jumping up and down, and going crazy. We are very interactive with the crowd. We bring a very high-energy show. We played a show with Piggy D (Rob Zombie, Manson Fame), and his crowd was made up of ROB ZOMBIE fans. When we walked out on stage, people were yelling, ‘Where are the guitars?!’ within 10 seconds of starting the show with our track “Dominate”, the crowd was moshing and dancing and completely forgot about us not having guitars.

Most of the crowds we play for have never heard of us, yet we get them chanting along the whole time. We pride ourselves on a high-quality professional show that sounds as best as it can at any venue.

Die Crust / Death Metal / Grindcore-Band HENRY KANE hat mit “Circle Of Pain” ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist nach “Den förstörda människans rike” (2017) und “Age of the Idiot” (2020) das dritte Album des Solo-Projekts von Jonny Pettersson (WOMBBATH, HEADS FOR THE DEAD).

“Circle Of Pain” wurde mit einem Cover-Artwork von Fredrik Ringström (VHOLDGHAST) ausgestattet und wird am 17. Mai 2024 via Selfmadegod Records erscheinen. Vorab gibt es den Track “Numb” zu hören.

Die Modern Metalcore-Band SETYØURSAILS stellt ihr neues Album “Bad Blood” mit einem Musikvideo vor: “Bad Company” bei YouTube.

Darüber hinaus steht seit Anfang März 2024 der Videoclip “Lately” bei YouTube bereit. Den Clip zum Titeltrack “Bad Blood” gibt’s ebenfalls bei YouTube, zu hören ist hier auch Gastsänger Adrian Estrella (ZEBRAHEAD).

Sängerin Jules Mitch erklärt zur Platte:

“Mit unserem neuen Album Bad Blood läuten wir eine neue Ära in unserer Bandgeschichte ein. Dieses Album ist lauter, aggressiver und ehrlicher als alles, was wir je zuvor gemacht haben. Es ist ein weiterer Schritt in Richtung Selbstfindung und Heilung. Es behandelt verschiedene Themen wie Verrat, psychische Gesundheit, aber auch Sex und eine Menge komplexer Gefühle.
