Es ist das sechste Album der Deutschen aus Bremen in ebenso vielen Jahren. Erscheinen wird das Album, das mit einem Cover-Artwork von Cristóbal “Kerbcrawlerghost” López ausgestattet wurde, am 24. Mai 2024 via Dying Victims Productions.

Mit einem Video zu “To Flow Through Ashen Hearts“ stellt die neuseeländische Death Metal-Band jetzt einen weiteren neuen Song vor. Bereits im März teilten ULCERATE ein Video zu  ‘The Dawn is Hollow’.

“Cutting the Throat of God” entstand im Herbst 2023, ULCERATE-Drummer Jamie Saint Merat hat das Album produziert.  Das Mastering kommt von Magnus Lindberg.

RIOT V veröffentlichen ihr neues Album später als angekündigt: “Mean Streets” erscheint am 12. April 2024. Ursprünglich sollte das Album ab 16. Februar erhältlich sein, dieser Termin wurde nun um zwei Monate verschoben.

Nun haben RIOT V auch ein Video zu “Love Beyond The Grave” geteilt.

Anfang Dezember präsentierten RIOT V  die erste Single “High Noon” mit einem Lyric-Video bei YouTube, es folgte ein Video zu “Feel The Fire”. 

Im Mai stellen RIOT V ihre neuen Songs dann auch live vor, als Support wurden TAILGUNNER bestätigt.

“Mean Streets” entstand in Zusammenarbeit mit Produzent Bruno Ravel. Das Mastering übernahm Bart Gabriel, das Artwork gestaltete Gyula Havancsáks.

Bassist Donnie Van Stavern erklärt zur Platte:

“Wir freuen uns riesig, das mittlerweile 17. RIOT-Album, »Mean Streets«, über das Toplabel Atomic Fire Records veröffentlichen zu können! Mit dieser Scheibe haben wir uns etwas zurück zu unseren Wurzeln begeben: So finden sich einige Hardrocker, aber natürlich auch zahlreiche Power-Metal-Songs auf der Platte wieder. Als ich den ersten Vorabtrack, ‘High Noon’, den es auch in Form eines Lyricvideo zu sehen und zu hören gibt, schrieb, war ich gedanklich gänzlich bei Mark Reale, der ein großer Westernfan war und ebenfalls Songs über dieselbe Thematik geschrieben hat [u.a. ‘Restless Breed’/’Gunfighter’]. Kira McSpice introduces a compelling metaphor for mournful beauty and sweetness in her video for the dirgeful aria “Knife like a Spile,” a song from her aptly titled new album, The Compartmentalization of Decay. The song “Knife like a Spile” is a somber reflection akin to a sad dream, where the cello’s lament withdraws all color from the world, encapsulating sorrow in its purest form. McSpice’s operatic vocals elevate the piece to a baroque and cathedral-esque realm, reminiscent of the intersection where Miranda Sex Garden meets Loreena McKennitt. In The Compartmentalization of Decay, Kira McSpice delves deep into the intricate process of how trees manage decay, as described by Alex L. Shigo: “Animals heal, but trees compartmentalize. They endure a lifetime of injury and infection by setting boundaries that resist the spread of the invading microorganisms.” This concept profoundly mirrors McSpice’s own journey in her latest album as she navigates through her experiences of trauma not with the intent to heal, but to survive and compartmentalize.

Drawing a parallel between her personal trauma and the natural world, McSpice likens her experience to the methodical tapping of a maple tree, a process that symbolizes not just an act of harm but a prolonged siphoning of essence. This metaphor forms the backbone of the album’s narrative, with instrumental characters embodying elements such as The Red Sky, The Sun, The Fog, and The Spile—the device used in tapping.

McSpice articulates her approach to managing her trauma through the creative process of the album:

“[My assault] made a wound very deep and I decided I probably couldn’t heal from it, so I wanted to compartmentalize it,” McSpice says. “Containing it in an album was the best way to seal the hole inside of me. I created a story and characters and I drowned the whole thing in metaphors so that I could do this work. During the writing of it I had a lot of bad dreams and it was very hard to get through. Once I had completed the writing I felt that I was beginning to seal it off. Recording felt very therapeutic because everything was being captured and collected and held in place. By the time I heard the masters and heard the last song I knew I had dealt with my trauma. I know it’s still inside of me and that hurt will always be there but it feels contained. Because of this it was very important that I made vinyl for this record. I wanted to be able to hold it in my hands, contained in rings –– what feels like a sliver of a tree –– outside of myself.”

McSpice’s vocal prowess stands out remarkably across the album, sure to captivate fans of artists like Lingua Ignota, Circuit Des Yeux, and Jarboe. Her songs traverse a wide emotional and sonic landscape, from minimalist arrangements to rich, layered compositions, all carried by McSpice’s captivating operatic tones.

Die Power Metal-Band EVERGREY präsentiert ihr neues Album “Theories Of Emptiness” mit einer ersten Single: “Falling From The Sun” gibt es als Musikvideo bei YouTube.

Produziert wurde die 14. Studioplatte von Tom S. Englund und Jonas Ekdahl, den Mix übernahm Adam “Nolly” Getgood. Für das Mastering schließlich zeichnet Thomas “Plec” Johansson verantwortlich. Die musikalische Vision erklärt Mastermind Tom S. Englund:

“Für uns ist Fortschritt das A und O. Wir sind bestrebt, dass unsere Musik innovativ bleibt und nicht stagniert. Die unverbesserlichen Headbanger von LEATHER LUNG lassen die Party steigen! Der Fünfer aus Boston, Massachusetts hat das Flehen seiner enthusiastischen Fangemeinde nach einer vollen Dröhnung Boogie Metal erhört und legt mit "Graveyard Grin" endlich das Debütalbum vor. Die Neuengländer halten mit diesem Kracher aus Stoner Metal, Doom, einer Prise Sludge und einem eingängigen Kick die großen Versprechen, die ihre bisherigen EPs abgegeben haben: Angefangen mit "Reap What You Sow" (2014) und gefolgt von "Lost in Temptation" (2016), "Lonesome, On'ry and Evil" (2019) und "Dive Bar Devil" (2022) haben sich LEATHER LUNG bereits in die Herzen ihrer wachsenden Anhängerschar gespielt. Cardiff’s own Plastic Estate has embarked on the next voyage of their musical journey with the release of their brand new single “Open Eyes.”

Moving away from their earlier sound, which resonated with the stylings of Aztec Camera, Lloyd Cole & The Commotions, and Prefab Sprout, the duo ventures into a realm of glossy opulence. This marks their first release in two years, introducing a suaveness enriched with the Hi-Fi luxury of the West Coast and the rhythmic allure of Post-Disco, establishing a stylish new sound for the new wave duo.

Traversing the spectrum of electronic Pop music, from the yacht rock of the late ’70s and the sophisticated pop of the mid-’80s to the glo-fi/chillwave movements and beyond, Plastic Estate has crafted a sound that feels like the perfect amalgamation of these diverse influences.

“Open Eyes” embodies this blend of influences, feeling like a track from a lost 80s film, the kind of flick that represents the communal essence of Pop music and bridges subcultures into a diverse scene coalescing onto one dancefloor.

The song is thoughtful in its measured brightness and intricacy, underscored by a meticulously woven percussive beat. Its suave vocal delivery is ensconced within layers of shimmering melodies, soft keys, jangly guitars with funk accents, and gentle percussion. It’s a sound that evokes the refined synth-pop landscape of The Human League, Bryan Ferry, China Crisis, and Blancmange, offering an auditory allure that one might imagine characters from “Pretty in Pink” enjoying. Picture James Spader’s Steff McKee and Andrew McCarthy’s Blaine lounging on a yacht, with “Open Eyes” setting the soundtrack to their sun-drenched lounging.

Behind Plastic Estate are Nicholas James and Stanley Fouracres, who have become notable figures within Cardiff’s vibrant post-punk scene. Their self-titled debut album in 2022 showcased their ability to blend the echoes of a golden era with the immediacy of modern sounds, and “Open Eyes” continues this narrative, marking a compelling new chapter in their artistic evolution.

Florenz in der sonnigen Toskana steht wie keine andere italienische Stadt für die Geburt der Renaissance mit einem wahren Füllhorn voller Meisterwerke solch genialer Künstler und Literaten wie Dante Alighieri, Giovanni Boccaccio, Francesco Guicciardini und Niccolò Machiavelli.
Ein heutiger Zeitgenosse und musikalisches Talent dieser Stadt widmet sich jedoch dem exakten Gegenteil von lichtgefluteten Sommerlandschaften. Als Stefano Senesi sein Dark Ambient Projekt WINTERBLOOD im Jahr 2008 mit dem Debütalbum "Le fredde ali dell'inverno" einweihte, wiesen sowohl der Bandname als auch der Titel, "Die kalten Schwingen des Winters" demonstrativ auf eines seiner wichtigsten Sujets hin. In seinem beeindruckenden Werk von mittlerweile 29 Alben, kehrte der Italiener immer wieder zur kalten Jahreszeit zurück – neben anderen eher nordischen Themen wie Dunkelheit, Einsamkeit, Magie und Wälder.
Mit der digitalen Veröffentlichung von "Finsternis" im Jahr 2019 beschwor Stefano Senesi, derart erfolgreich das Gefühl des namengebenden deutschen Titels in seinem typischen minimalistischen Stil mit eisigen, cineastischen Klangbildern herauf, dass die zahlreichen Anhänger des Italieners seitdem vehement nach einer Veröffentlichung auf physischem Tonträger verlangen. WINTERBLOOD und Kunsthall geben diesem Wunsch gerne nach und legen "Finsternis" nun stolz auf schwarzem Vinyl als geschmackvolles schwarz-silbernes Doppel-Gatefold vor.

EXODUS bringen 35 Jahre alte Liveaufnahmen nun auch offiziell unters Volk: Am31. Mai 2024 veröffentlicht die Thrash Metal-Band das “British Disaster: The Battle Of ’89 (Live At The Astoria)”.

Einen ersten Eindruck vom Mitschnitt kann man sich schon jetzt verschaffen: EXODUS haben ‘Fabulous Disaster (Live At The Astoria)’ als erste Single geteilt.

Gary Holt erklärt, wie es zur recht späten Veröffentlichung des Mitschnittes kam:

“Manchmal fällt einem Großartiges einfach in den Schoß, so wie die kompletten Multitrack-Bänder von unserer Headliner-Show in London auf der “Fabulous Disaster”-Tour.  Also dachten wir: “Lasst uns reinhören und sehen, was wir haben” und BAM! Wir waren Feuer und Flamme! Reiner Thrash, hundertprozentig live und so gefährlich wie immer! Wir sehr froh, dass wir dieses Album für unsere Fans veröffentlichen können.”

“British Disaster: The Battle Of ’89 (Live At The Astoria)” ist ein Mitschnitt des Konzertes am 8. März 1989 im Astoria in London, die Aufnahmen wurden bislang noch nicht veröffentlicht. Mix und Mastering des Livealbums übernahm Zeuss, das Artwork ist von Mark DeVito.

Die Melodic Heavy Metal-Band STORMBORN hat einen Labeldeal bei Rockshots Records unterschrieben. Im Zuge dessen werden die Engländer aus Kent ihr neues Album “Zenith” veröffentlichen. Es ist nach “Stormborn” (2012) das zweite Album der 2007 gegründeten Band. Release-Termin ist der 26. April 2024. Mit “Out In The Weird” gibt es nun einen dritten Vorab-Track zu hören.

Vor wenigen Wochen ist mit “Serpentine” ein Video-Clip erschienen. Der Song ist inspiriert von “The Liveship Traders”, einer Trilogie von Fantasy-Romanen des amerikanischen Autors Robin Hobb. Das Lied handelt von einem Schiff, das von der Seele eines Drachens besessen ist.

STORMBORN sind Drummer Andrew Felton, die Gitarristen Laurence Armitage und David Viner, Bassist Simon “Steve” Ball sowie Sänger Christopher Simmons.

THRESHOLD müssen ihren Auftritt beim disjährigen ROCK HARD FESTIVAL absagen, als Ersatz springen DEMON ein. 

HRESHOLD-Gitarrist Karl Groom schreibt dazu:

„Aufgrund von persönlichen Umständen, müssen Threshold ihr Konzert beim ROCK HARD FESTIVAL leider von 2024 auf 2025 verschieben. Dies ist erst die zweite Show in 30 Jahren, die wir nicht spielen können, und ich kann mich nur bei denjenigen entschuldigen, die sich darauf gefreut haben, die Band im Mai zu sehen.

Mit dem ROCK HARD FESTIVAL verbinden wir tolle Erinnerungen: Nachdem wir 2005 mit Mac und 2013 mit Damian gespielt haben, werden wir nächstes Jahr mit Glynn wiederkommen. Wir freuen uns darauf, euch alle dort zu sehen!

Das Festival findet vom 17. Mai bis 19. Mai 2024 wie gewohnt im Amphitheater Gelsenkirchen statt.

Neben den Festival- und Campingtickets sind ab sofort auch Tageskarten erhältlich.

Ursprünglich sollten auch GRAVE beim Rock Hard Festival 2024 spielen, die Schweden haben allerdings Anfang 2024  alle Konzerte 2024 abgesagt, Gitarrist Mika Lagrén und Bassist Tobias Cristiansson haben die Band verlassen.

Die Deathcore / Nu Metal-Band DVRK hat einen Labeldeal bei Season of Mist unterschrieben. Erstes Zeugnis dieses Deals wird der Release der EP “Infinite Reminiscence” sein, die am 7. Juni 2024 erscheinen wird. Es wird der erste Release der Franzosen sein.

Die Progressive Death Metal-Band DÅÅTH präsentiert ihr neues Album “The Deceivers” mit einer weiteren Singe und hat nun auch ein Video zu “Unwelcome Return” veröffentlicht.

Zur vor teilten DAATH bereits einige weitere Songs wie ein Video zu “Ascension”. Als Gastmusiker war an dem Song Dean Lamb von ARCHSPIRE beteiligt.

Schon im März veröffentlichten DAATH einen Videoclip zur Single “Hex Unending” bei YouTube. Zu hören ist in dem Song auch ICE NINE KILLS-Gitarrist Dan Sugarman.

Zuvor hatte die Formation mit “The Silent Foray” eine weitere Single veröffentlicht, bei dem Track ist Per Nilson von SCAR SYMMETRY als Gast zuhören. Weitere Vorab-Songs sind “No Rest No End” sowie “Purified by Vengeance“.

“The Deceivers” enthält neun Songs und wurde von Gitarrist Eyal Levi selbst produziert. Den Mix übernahm Jens Bogren, für das Mastering zeichnet Tony Lindgren verantwortlich.

Erscheinen wird “The Deceivers” am 3. Mai 2024 via Metal Blade Records auf CD, Vinyl sowie digital.

In the realm of music where emotion intertwines with art, Joanna Gemma Auguri stands out with her latest single, “What We Call Love,” released through Duchess Box Records. This piece serves as the third offering from her eagerly awaited second album, “Hiraeth,” set to be released on June 28th.

“Hiraeth” promises to be a journey through the soul’s landscapes, featuring collaborations with artists of profound depth, including Keeley Foresyth. The album, imbued with the Welsh ethos of a deep longing for a lost or unattainable home, resonates with Auguri’s personal narrative of displacement and yearning.

“What We Call Love” delves into the ephemeral nature of emotions, capturing the transformation from warmth to indifference, a theme that Auguri passionately explores. “It is a painful awakening from a state of projection and dreaming. It is an inevitable fall and yet you remember the magic. I often ask myself what constitutes love in our time and our society, but also through our expectations. The song reflects the beauty and parting of intense encounters in our lives,” Joanna shares, providing insight into the soul of her creation.

The song itself is a masterful blend of sultry tones and seductive melodies, reminiscent of the smoky vocal purrs of Portishead’s Beth Gibbons and the ethereal soundscapes of Cocteau Twins’ Elizabeth Fraser. With its jazzy undertones and a 60s vibe that harks back to the likes of Scott Walker and The Tindersticks, the track weaves a rich tapestry of sound that is both chill-inducing and romantically evocative. The piano and percussion elements, in particular, echo Fraser’s collaboration with Massive Attack, creating a mesmerizing ambiance that softly vibrates the tiny hairs up and down your arms.

The accompanying video for “What We Call Love” is a visual feast, bathed in hues of pink and violet, with soft lighting that envelops the viewer like a cocoon of roses. As two lovers dance within this dreamy landscape, their silhouettes cast soft, intertwining shadows on the wall, embodying the song’s essence of fleeting beauty and the transient nature of love.

Joanna Gemma Auguri’s second studio album, “Hiraeth,” is an odyssey that traverses the landscapes of homesickness, nostalgia, and a deep-seated yearning for something irrevocably lost. “Hiraeth,” a Welsh term that evokes a profound sense of longing for a home or a feeling that is beyond reach, perfectly encapsulates the essence of this album. Throughout a year of meticulous songwriting and searching for the right producer, Auguri embarked on a journey that eventually led her to collaborate with Ingo Krauss, a seasoned producer known for his tenure at Conny Plank Studio and his work at Candy Bomber Studios.

It was in the historic halls of Tempelhof airport, transformed into a creative sanctuary, where Auguri and a host of musicians brought the ethereal compositions of “Hiraeth” to life. “I didn’t realise until after I’d finished recording that for me, the album is a longing for integrity and innocence in a world that’s out of balance. It is not only a longing for a lost past but also for a contemporary Utopia. Musically, we move through different landscapes. For me, it’s like a book with different chapters that are interwoven. From sparse and intimate compositions to cinematic soundscapes. Hiraeth is a step to a broader screen,” Joanna reflects on the creation of the album.

Her partnership with Keeley Forsyth, stemming from a serendipitous meeting at a festival, adds a haunting dimension to the album:

“Keely Forsyth and I met in a tiny backstage area at Zemlika, a lovingly curated avant-garde festival in the Latvian countryside, where we both performed in 2022. The affinity for each other was immediate, as was the obvious overlap in melancholy and intimacy in musical preferences. We stayed in touch. Last summer I asked her and her partner Ross Downes to join me on a song for the record and I’m really pleased with the result – it reminds me of a kind of eerie nursery rhyme.”

From the turmoil of martial law in Poland to the artistic vibrancy of Berlin, Joanna Gemma Auguri’s journey is a narrative of resilience, transformation, and the profound impact of music. Her early experiences of uprooting and displacement deeply influence her music, infusing it with themes of sadness, compassion, and a critique of the world’s state. Auguri’s debut album “11,” characterized by its unique use of accordion, zither, and captivating vocals, marked the beginning of her solo career. Her latest work, “Hiraeth,” recorded at Candy Bomber Studios with a plethora of talented musicians, continues to explore the themes of longing and belonging. Die Black Metal-Band NAXEN hat mit “Descending into a Deeper Darkness” ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist nach “Towards the Tomb of Times” (2020) das zweite Album des deutschen Trios aus Münster. Einen Preview-Song gibt es nun mit “To Writhe In The Womb Of Night” bei YouTube.

Die Songs auf dem Album verkörpern die Überzeugung, dass alle Hoffnung verloren ist, dass das Grauen die Existenz beherrscht, dass das Leben das Trauma der Geburt ist und schließlich die unwiderlegbare Sinnlosigkeit allen Fleisches.

“Descending into a Deeper Darkness” wurde gemeinsam mit Fabian Schulz im Sunsetter Studio aufgenommen und gemixt und von Brad Boatright gemastert. Release-Termin ist der 3. Mai 2024 via Vendetta Records.

CATEGORY 7 wollen im Sommer 2024 ihr Debütalbum veröffentlichen, die erste Single ist für Anfang Mai angekündigt.  Vor kurzem hat das All Star-Projekt einen Plattenvertrag bei Metal Blade Records unterschrieben.

Laut John Bush lief das Songwriting wie am Schnürchen:

“Die großartigen Riffs von Mike Orlando und Phil Demmel machten Texten zum Kinderspiel. Bittner und Gibson rundete als Rhythmus-Tandem den Sound ab. Es fühlt sich an, als ob diese Band von einer höheren Macht zusammengestellt worden ist!  Dass wir alle Veteran der Metalszene sind, machte die ganze Sache noch einfacher.”

Die Black/Death Metaller PAINFUL treten noch ein drittes und letztes Mal vor der baldigen Veröffentlichung ihres Konzeptalbums „Nefarious Monarchy“ mit einer Single an. Das am 25. Mai erscheinende Album bildet auch im 20. Jahr der Bandgeschichte einen geschlossenen erzählerischen Rahmen. Ohne den Filter einer religiösen oder politischen Ideologie nimmt das Quartett eine Beobachterrolle ein und präsentiert uns diesmal das grausige Geschehen zwischen den Zeilen der Kapitel zur Französischen Revolution unserer Geschichtsbücher.

Die nun vorliegende Single “Reign of Terror” widmet sich dabei La Terreur, der Zeit vom Herbst 1793 bis zum Frühjahr 1794, in der per Konventsbeschluss die Jakobiner um Robespierre bis zu 40.000 Menschen foltern und töten konnten. Im Song behandeln PAINFUL eine Revolutionsphase, in der blutige Grausamkeit derart blind und zerstörerisch mit dem Zeitgeist der Aufklärung rang, dass wir noch heute tiefgreifenden Veränderungen mit einer Warnung begegnen, die dort ihren traurigen Ursprung hat: Die Revolution frisst ihre Kinder.

Die Death Metal-Band NECROPHAGIA hat einen Labeldeal bei Time To Kill Records unterschrieben. Mit diesem Deal wird die US-amerikanische Band aus Ohio ihr Abschlusswerk “Moribundis Grim” veröffentlichen. Das Material darauf wurde zwischen 2016 und 2018 komponiert – also zu der Zeit, als Sänger Killjoy noch lebte.

“Moribundis Grm” erscheint am 10. Mai 2024. Mit einem Video zu “Metal Decay” haben NECROPHAGIA nun auch einen weiteren Song der Platte im Netz geteilt. Im März teilte die Band bereits den Titeltrack “Moribundis Grim”.

“”Moribundis Grim” ist das letzte Album von Killjoy. Dies sind seine letzten gesanglichen Darbietungen. Auf dem Album ist die letzte NECROPHAGIA-Live-Besetzung zu hören: Killjoy Desade, Serge Streltsov, Shawn Slusarek und Jake Arnette, zusammen mit Special Guest John McEntee und den früheren Mitgliedern Titta Tani und Mirai Kawashima. Diese Songs sind die Demos, an denen die Band und Killjoy bis zu Killjoys Tod gearbeitet haben. Außerdem gibt es überarbeitete Versionen von Songs des ersten Albums und ein SAMHAIN-Cover”, sagt Gitarrist Serge Streltsov.

Die Blackened Death Metal-Band BLACK LAVA stellt ihr neues Album “The Savage Winds To Wisdom” mit einem Musikvideo zum Song “Ironclad Sacrophagus” vor.

“Wir haben uns beim Komponieren von ‘The Savage Winds to Wisdom’ mehr Mühe gegeben. Dieses Album hat ein echtes Gefühl der Ausgewogenheit, das zum wiederholten Anhören einlädt, während wir immer noch dem treu bleiben, was wir uns vorgenommen haben: schwere, aber hymnische Melodien zu schaffen, die eine kraftvolle Geschichte erzählen”.

Mit “Beating the Drums of Ancestral Force” wird in einigen Wochen das neue Album der Death-Doom Metal-Band TZOMPANTLI erscheinen. Es ist nach “Tlazcaltiliztli” (2022) das zweite Album des von Brian “Itztlakamayeh” Ortiz (XIBALBA) ins Leben gerufenen Projekts.

“Beating the Drums of Ancestral Force” wurde von Drummer Erol Ulug (TEETH) in den Bright Light Studios produziert und mit einem Cover-Artwork von Adam Burke ausgestattet. Release-Termin ist der 17. Mai 2024 via 20 Buck Spin. Vorab gibt es den Track “Tlayohualli” zu hören.

“Die Single ‘Tlayohualli’ ist Nahuatl und bedeutet ‘Dunkelheit der Nacht’. Es geht um La Noche Triste (die Nacht der Sorgen), in der die Mexica die Spanier und ihre indigenen Verbündeten aus Tenochtitlan vertrieben haben. Es beschreibt die Schlacht und den Triumph in dieser Nacht, aber auch die Folgen und die Verwirrung, die sich daraus ergaben, dass die Mexica Krankheiten ausgesetzt waren, gegen die sie keine Toleranz oder Immunität besaßen, was zu ihrem Untergang führte”, erklärt Brian Ortiz.

Die ereignisreichen Jahre seit „The Disconnect“ (2019) haben ihre Spuren hinterlassen. Erfanden sich HEART OF A COWARD auf ihrer vierten Platte und mit Wechsel am Mikro in mancherlei Hinsicht neu, prägt „This Place Only Brings Death“ allen voran eine beklemmende Atmosphäre. Die Eckpfeiler sind die gleichen, doch diesmal lassen die Briten tief in ihr Innerstes blicken, wo Zweifel und Ängste ans Tageslicht kommen, die – so hat es jedenfalls den Anschein – eigentlich nicht für die Öffentlichkeit bestimmt waren.

Dementsprechend verbittert und humorlos erscheint Album Nummer fünf, dem HEART OF A COWARD trotz genreüblicher Stilmittel ihren eigenen Stempel aufdrücken. Die Instrumente sind natürlich tief gestimmt, die Rhythmusgitarre im Mix oft an vorderster Front, weshalb ein gutes Paar Kopfhörer für das ideale Hörerlebnis nicht die schlechteste Wahl darstellt. Dann erschließen sich die begleitenden Leads und Layers im Hintergrund umso besser, die im Titelstück melodisch ausfallen und im folgenden „Captor“ eher die düstere Grundstimmung ausschmücken.

HEART OF A COWARD setzen auf Atmosphäre, die dem Plattentitel gerecht wird
Dem trockenen Fundament mischen HEART OF A COWARD indes regelmäßig griffige Refrains bei, in denen Kaan Tasan auch mal seine Singstimme präsentieren oder zumindest irgendwo zwischen Klargesang und Fry-Scream den Sam Carter (ARCHITECTS) mimen darf („Passenger“, „Surrender To Failure“, „Devour Me“). Die djent-beeinflusste Phase der Landsmänner ist hier weiterhin prägende Referenz, wenn es darum geht, den typischen Metalcore-Sound der späten 2010er Jahre mit zusätzlichen atmosphärischen Ebenen auszuschmücken. Dafür nutzt das Quintett Synthesizer wie Saiteninstrumente gleichermaßen, was in einem Track wie „Decay“ ein interessantes Spannungsfeld erzeugen kann, wenn sich das Stück zwischen den heavy-groovenden Strophen in der Hook öffnet.

Auf diese Weise findet „This Place Only Brings Death” in jedem Fall seine eigene Nische, ohne allerdings in irgendeiner Weise Pionierarbeit zu leisten. Die Nähe zu verwandten Acts ist den zehn Stücken stets anzumerken, wenn etwa „Ghost“ in der Peripherie BLEED FROM WITHINs seine Kreise zieht, findet aber genug eigenes Profil, um sich letztlich vom Gros der zeitgenössischen Metalcore-Szene abzugrenzen. Das geschieht durch akzentuiertes Songwriting, tatsächlich kompetente eingewobene Industrial-Anleihen („HEX“) und einen Klangkosmos, welcher dem unheilschwangeren Plattentitel gerecht wird – vor dem Hintergrund der gesellschaftlichen und individuellen Herausforderungen der Pandemiejahre eigentlich wenig verwunderlich.

Navigating the diverse terrains of dark pop anthems and grunge punk rock, CORRO stands out with a theatrical energy that’s both captivating and laden with wit. Drawing parallels to influential acts like Bring Me the Horizon and Sleep Token, CORRO’s unique blend has firmly established his presence in the music scene.

With his latest release, CORRO pays homage to Oliver Tree, one of his significant inspirations, through a cover of “Hurt.” Expressing his admiration, CORRO shares:

“I’ve been a huge fan of Oliver Tree for a long time and to say he has been an inspiration for me is a huge understatement. I did this cover to show how much I love his stuff and that hopefully he would see and enjoy it. It was very fun to play with my visual comedy and editing to it as well. This world always needs more weird, creative people in it.”

The cover song “Hurt” takes on a new life under CORRO’s creative direction, reminiscent of a communal acid trip between They Might Be Giants, Big Black, Shriekback, Faith No More, and Mike Patton over Saturday Morning cartoons and sugary breakfast cereal. The result is a quirky, engaging track that defies the norms.

The accompanying music video is an adventure into the absurd and whimsical, harking back to the vibrant era of 120 Minutes and Alternative Nation. Emerging with Nordic charm and a palette brimming with color, CORRO continues his ascent in the music world with a rich arsenal of melodies and aesthetics. His journey, which began with the bands DEADLOCKED STATE and Kerbera, has evolved into a solo endeavor marked by bold, genre-defying releases since signing with Swedish independent label Icons Creating Evil Art in 2019.

The 2021 single “Mona Liza Overdrive” was a significant milestone for CORRO, setting a new direction in his artistic path. This collaboration with the Glaswegian duo Johnny Madden and Chris Marshall, featuring guest drums from Chris Allen, solidified its place as a standout alt-rock anthem of the year.

Die Death Metal / Hardcore-Band TERMINAL NATION hat mit “Echoes of the Devil’s Den” ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist nach “Holocene Extinction” (2020) das zweite Album der US-Amerikaner aus Arkansas und wird am 3. Mai 2024 via 20 Buck Spin erscheinen.

“Merchant Of Blodshet” ist die zweite Single, für den Song haben sich TERMINAL NATION Jesse Leach (KILLSWITCH ENGAGE) als Gastsänger dazugeholt.

Mit “Written by the Victor” gibt es vorab einen Video-Clip.

“”Written By The Victor” ist ein Track über die Manipulation historischer Erzählungen”, sagt Sänger Stan Liszewski. “In dem Song geht es darum, dass die herrschende Klasse so viel Macht hat, dass sie die Geschichte so umschreiben kann, dass sie in das von ihr gewählte Narrativ passt.”

“Echoes of the Devil’s Den” wurde gemeinsam mit Ryan Bram im Homewrecker Recording Studio in Tucson aufgenommen und gemixt und von Brad Boatright gemastert. Das Cover-Artwork stammt von Adam Burke.

Now After Nothing – Sick Fix!

Atlanta-based darkwave band, Now After Nothing recently unveiled their latest single, “Sick Fix” (Spatial Remix). The song is a remix of last year’s debut single, “Sick Fix” by Now After Nothing‘s own Matt Spatial who wanted to give fans something new while the band wraps production on their debut EP set for release this summer.

Spatial says, “I wanted to put something different out so I lined up another artist to do a remix of “Sick Fix”. I never intended to remix “Sick Fix” myself, The “Sick Fix” (Spatial Remix) just kind of happened. When the remix was done, I loved it so much that I began to incorporate elements of it into the live version of the song.”

The lyrics to “Sick Fix” and the remix are about dealing with ‘toxicity’ and the very real struggle to stay away or detach from the things we know are harmful to us: the family member that treats everyone poorly or the narcissistic partner for example. 

The track is also about the attachment to social media or the commercial media that spews false narratives to instill fear. Deep down we might know that continuing to engage in these things/situations is unhealthy. Yet, like the proverbial ‘car crash’, we can’t seem to turn away.  Over time maybe it becomes so all-consuming that it might feel similar to addiction.  It’s a ‘sick fix’ that we begin to subconsciously crave.

The “Sick Fix” (Spatial Remix) is available on all major digital platforms including Bandcamp and Spotify.

Atlanta-based darkwave act Now After Nothing is bringing classic influences and modernized electronic instrumentals to the present-day crowd. Frontman and multi-instrumentalist Matt Spatial brings masterful expertise to the expansive project and it’s evident in the dynamic collection of tracks that cover a vast selection of genres from punk to industrial and new wave. The influences from Bauhaus, The Cure, My Bloody Valentine, and Sonic Youth shine as he seamlessly enmeshes the best parts of those artists into a new iteration of seductive, introspective, and mesmerizing goth tracks for the next generation. Spatial intricately weaves social, political, and personal narratives within the instrumentals to add depth and darkness that resonates with lost and misunderstood souls. 
 
What originated as a solo idea is now skyrocketing into a full-fledged project coming to fruition. Now After Nothing is poised to announce a new EP on the way that was fully written and recorded by Matt Spatial alongside drummer Michael Allen. Aus Frankreich kommt diese Tage ein ganz heißer neuer Release. “Ekbom” stammt von den Extrem Metallern BENIGHTED, die nach vier Jahren (endlich) wieder neues Material am Start haben. Brutaler Death Metal und Grindcore beschreiben den Stil wohl am treffendsten. Unzählige Alben und Touren pflasterten den Weg der 1998 gegründeten Band.

BENIGHTED tauchen in die dunkelsten Abgründe

Zwölf Titel hauen uns die Franzosen in einer guten halben Stunde um die Ohren. Nach dem verstörenden Intro “Prodrome” geht es gleich mit der ersten Singleauskoppellung “Scars” los. Der Titel beginnt mit extremen Pig Squeals und einem musikalischen Brett, die Double Base Salven sind ständig präsent. Genau so soll Extrem Metal anno 2024 klingen: wie aus einem Guss. “Scars” hinterlässt den Hörer mit großen Erwartungen, weiter geht es mit flottem Death Metal mit “Morgue”. Der Song ist mit einigen Mosh Parts versehen, ich sehe die tobende Meute bei Konzerten schon vor mir.

Stilistisch ausgereift, in einem Mördertempo und trotzdem präzise wie ein Uhrwerk liefern BENIGHTED mit ihrem zehnten Studioalbum “Ekbom” ein gelungenes Album ab Kunst ab. Der Albumtitel bezieht sich übrigens auf das “Ekbom Syndrome” inspiriert, eine neurologische Erkrankung.

“Ekbom” steht für den neurologischen Wahnsinn

Steht am Anfang von “Ekbom” noch der kürzeste Titel mit dem Intro, so kommt als letzte Nummer auch die gleichzeitig mit viereinhalb Minuten Spielzeit längste Nummer. Bei “Mother Earth, Mother Whore” sagt wohl schon im Titel mehr aus, als man noch zu wissen braucht. Die gnadenlose Abrechnung kommt mächtig böse rüber.

BENIGHTED sind mit ihrem neuen Output in der oberen Liga der extremen Klänge angekommen sind. “Ekbom” sticht nich nur durch sein morbides, giftiges Coverartwork heraus, es weiß auch musikalisch zu überzeugen.

With the brooding echoes of post-punk’s darker hues, Alex Okami’s latest single, “Under My Skin,” delves deep into the realm of toxic relationships, encapsulating the essence of a liaison as lethal as death itself. Set against a backdrop of shadowy guitar strums, throbbing bass, and the soft dirge of organ-like keys, the track stands as a modern-day Byronic ballad, dark and melodically rich.

The accompanying video, shot within a candle-lit sanctum, exudes gothic rock elegance. A red glow bathes Okami’s smoldering visage, enhancing the track’s haunting allure. Es soll härter sein, als doie Vorgänger-Alben “Aphélion” oder “Pitfalls“: LEPROUS veröffentlichen im Sommer ihr achtes Studioalbum “Melodies Of Atonement”:

“Wie jede Band haben wir das Gefühl, dass es unser bislang bestes Album geworden ist. Aber es stimmt tatsächlich! Die orchestralen Elemente sind weg, das gibt jedem einzelnen Bandmitglied mehr Raum. Es geht direkt zur Sache und ist härter als das, was wir in letzter Zeit gemacht haben… Ein frischer Sound, aber gleichzeitig noch immer LEPROUS.”

“Melodies Of Atonement” enstand in Zusammenarbeit mit David Castillo im Ghost Ward Studio in Schweden. Adam Noble übernahm den Mix, Robin Schmidt das Mastering. Das Cover des Albums ist ein Foto von John Dolan, die Gestaltung kommt von Ritxi Ostáriz.

In a world that often disguises its dangers beneath a veneer of normalcy, Summore’s latest single, “Watch Your Back,” emerges as a chilling narrative, echoing the haunting realities of blind faith and betrayal. The Ohio-based darkwave duo, known for their intricate blend of shadowy synthpop and lyrical depth, dive into the complexities of human relationships, reminding us of the caution needed in a world rife with hidden predators.

“Watch Your Back” serves as a stark warning wrapped in the embrace of an icy synth-pop melody that resonates with the foreboding essence of the ’80s golden age of horror scores. Julie’s spectral vocals glide through the track, a ghostly wind whispering of danger, while Justin’s mastery over the synthesizers crafts a backdrop that is both entrancing and unsettling.

In the song, Julie sings, “Better watch your back, they’ll tear you apart, “giving a warning to take heed of those who can prey upon us when we fail to remain vigilant.”. Vulnerability can be a double-edged sword that exposes one’s weaknesses, but it can also reveal what is truly in our hearts. Expressing oneself can aid in healing, but in the hands of those who seek to exploit weaknesses, the same expression can be harmful.

Directed by Wesley Morris, the video is a kaleidoscopic journey set within a madhouse, where disconcerting visuals playfully dance with the song’s somber themes. The retro hues of pink, magenta, and purple set a backdrop for the bizarre as Justin and Julie dance in straight jackets, embodying the madness that the song warns against.

CAMERATA MEDIOLANENSE sind eine dieser seltenen musikalischen Perlen, die sich kaum in simple Kategorien einordnen lassen. Die Italiener trotzen allen Erwartungen und setzen sich über generelle Konventionen in Bezug auf Formate, Stil und die Art und Weise, wie Musik üblicherweise komponiert und aufgeführt wird, hinweg. Mit ihrem sechsten Studioalbum "Atalanta Fugiens" kehren CAMERATA MEDIOLANENSE zu ihrem "klassischen Stil" zurück. Das bedeutet starke Perkussion und Rhythmen, die in Verbindung mit leichten Keyboard-Elementen ein perfektes Gegengewicht zu den schwebenden Melodien aller Sängerinnen und Sänger bilden. Letztere bestehen aus den wunderbaren Sopranistinnen Carmen, Chiara und Desirée in der Hauptrolle sowie harmonischen Chören. Die recht martialischen Rhythmen des italienischen Ensembles werden von eindringlichen Melodien begleitet, die auf Tonleitern Alter Musik aufbauen. Zwei Cembali, die Bass-Bratsche, wiederkehrende Störgeräusche und die unkonventionelle Handhabung von Echo und Verzögerung sowie der gezielte Einsatz von Krachelementen zielen allesamt darauf ab, einen sowohl himmlischen als auch höllischen Klang zu erschaffen. Es versteht sich von selbst, dass sich die sorgfältig komponierte Musik mit dem starken Schwerpunkt auf den Stimmen in faszinierenden und fundiert recherchierten Texten widerspiegelt. Der Albumtitel "Atalanta Fugiens" bezieht sich auf ein gleichnamiges Werk, das am Beginn der Frühen Neuzeit im Jahr 1617 veröffentlicht wurde. Das von dem deutschen paracelsischen Arzt und Alchemisten Michael Maier verfasste Emblembuch enthält 50 Reden mit Illustrationen des berühmten Matthias Merian, die jeweils von epigrammatischen Versen, Prosa und einer musikalischen Fuge begleitet werden. Nach mehr als zehn Jahren intensiven Studiums des rätselhaften Buchs komponierten CAMERATA MEDIOLANENSE für eine Auswahl der Embleme eine völlig neue Musik. Das Album beginnt mit dem ersten und endet mit dem letzten Emblem. CAMERATA MEDIOLANENSE wurde im Jahr 1994 in der norditalienischen Stadt Mailand als Ensemble gegründet. Dieser Umstand verlieh der Band gleichzeitig ihren Namen, denn er bedeutet wörtlich "Gruppe von Kammermusikern aus Mailand" – unter Verwendung des lateinischen Namens der Stadt. Als primus inter pares schreibt die klassisch ausgebildete Komponistin Elena Previdi stets den Großteil der Musik. Nicht alle Mitglieder des Ensembles kommen aus der klassischen Musik. Vor allem Post-Punk, Wave und sogar Folklore spielen eine wichtige Rolle in der musikalischen DNA der Italiener. In den letzten drei Jahrzehnten konnten sich CAMERATA MEDIOLANENSE einen exzellenten Ruf für ihre höchst individuellen Alben und herausragenden Konzerte erwerben, die Kenner und Musikliebhaber aus ganz unterschiedlichen Szenen anziehen. Die Italiener werden oft als eine Mischung aus Neo-Klassik und Dark Wave gesehen, decken jedoch ein viel breiteres Spektrum an Stilen und Ausdrucksformen ab.
