Back with their 4th album, “Deadtime Stories”, LOVELORN DOLLS embrace a stronger identity – creepy cute ambiance, eerie Tim Burton-esque scenes, guitar-driven sounds, catchy dark melodies, childlike synths, industrial tones, and Kristell’s distinctive voice, all boldly and fully embraced.

The title “Deadtime Stories” is a cynical play on words, referencing children’s rhymes with a dark twist. Trafalgar Releasing today announced worldwide theatrical distribution plans for RITE HERE RITE NOW.

The unique feature-length film combines never-before-seen 2023 concert footage of GRAMMY award-winning rock band, GHOST, with a narrative story that picks up plot threads from the band’s long-running webisode series. Directed by GHOST’s Tobias Forge, and Alex Ross Perry (Her Smell), RITE HERE RITE NOW will launch in cinemas globally on June 20 & 22 only.

Not yet anyway.

But I told him that if he wanted a story, I could come up with one.

This film is the fruit of that conversation.”

HEAR ME OUT, a fresh-faced, queer ensemble of musicians hailing from Bielefeld, Germany, burst onto the scene in late 2021. Long recognized as a profoundly influential force in music, Manchester’s The Chameleons have left their mark on bands like The Verve, Oasis, White Lies, The Slow Readers Club, Interpol, The Killers, and Editors, among many others. Known for their deep and powerful live shows and a transformative musical catalog, their impact stretches well beyond their four studio albums.

The Chameleons’ distinctive sound quickly captured the public’s attention with its unique blend of melancholy yet robust and dynamic tunes, entrancing ethereal guitar riffs, and poignant, enduring lyrical themes. The Chameleons are celebrated as one of the pivotal guitar-driven groups of the ’80s and ’90s, making significant contributions to the post-punk, shoegaze, and indie genres. Despite their broad influence, they remain one of Manchester, England’s most undervalued musical exports.

While their last studio album came out over two decades ago, in a surprise move, the band still has a few tricks up its sleeve, including a tour and a brand new single, Where Are You?, which will be released as part of a three-song EP on May 24, 2024, via Metropolis Records in conjunction with Strange Times Entertainment.

“It’s exciting to finally be putting out fresh Chameleons material for the first time in over twenty years, although initially I found it quite daunting,” admits vocalist/bassist Mark Burgess. “The question about new music is one I had been asked the most from people coming to the shows, a great many of whom weren’t even born when those records were originally made but nevertheless were excited and inspired by the music enough to catch multiple shows on multiple tours.”

Coupled with the shimmery and mesmerizing Endlessly Falling and the acoustic and contemplative ballad Forever, the Where Are You? EP is a slight taste of an upcoming album titled Arctic Moon planned for later 2024.

“At this moment, we’re halfway through, but already everyone in the band is excited by what they’re hearing,” Burgess says. “We’ve managed to transcend the confines of our own legacy and finally forge something fresh. It’s undoubtedly The Chameleons to everyone that has heard the direction the band is now heading in.”

Currently preparing for a round of North American dates beginning on May 30th in San Diego and working their way East to Washington, DC on August 17th, the band will be celebrating their 1986 breakthrough album Strange Times, which spawned the singles Tears and the alt-rock club staple Swamp Thing.

“I initially wasn’t a huge fan of album performance tours,” Burgess admits. “I believed instead that they ought to have been confined to one-off, special events.” Marking the difference between the highly personal experience of enjoying an album alone with a “good pair of headphones” versus the collective social coming together at a concert, he muses that, in general, the track listing of an album doesn’t take into account a live show’s needs for crest and drama. “Performing Strange Times changed my mind,” he says. “For one thing, the album marked a significant evolution by the band both in its sound and the maturity of the writing. In the late 1980s, São Paulo’s Individual Industry quickly carved a niche for themselves within the Brazilian electronic and wave scene. Formed by Alexandre Twin and Maurizio Bonito, the group skillfully fuses synth-pop, dark wave, and post-punk elements. Known for their rich use of synthesizers and complex melodies, the band’s music delves deep into personal and emotional landscapes through introspective lyrics. Over the decades, Individual Industry has released a series of impactful albums, securing their status as stalwarts of Brazil’s alternative music community while also earning international acclaim.

Between July 1992 and February 1993, Individual Industry was in the studio recording their debut album, Templum Probus, which was released in July 1993 and produced by Apollo IX. Initially launched in Brazil, the album was subsequently licensed in Germany by Subtronic and distributed across Europe by SPV. Templum Probus received critical acclaim, garnering attention from major Brazilian media outlets, as well as international publications.

Over time, the album became a masterpiece and a classic of the Brazilian alternative scene. Its sound—a blend of ethereal vocals and electronic punch—defied genre classification. The track Eyes eventually became a cult classic in electronic music and was released as a 12” in Europe and the UK.

Originally released exclusively on CD in 1993, Templum Probus was not available in any digital or alternative formats—until now. Wave Records is celebrating the 30th anniversary of this masterpiece by reissuing it in three distinct formats: tape, CD, and a limited edition vinyl.

Each format of Individual Industry’s Templum Probus offers unique tracks: the vinyl edition includes two unreleased radio versions: a cover of Pink Industry’s What I Wouldn’t Give and Paradise.

The CD edition is presented in a six-panel digipack and includes six bonus tracks, featuring demo versions, with a global limitation of 150 copies.

The tape edition, exceptionally limited to just 50 copies worldwide, features five unique bonus and unreleased tracks distinct from the CD edition.

Die Doom Metal-Band DOOMRAISER hat mit “Cold Grave Marble” ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist das sechste Album der Italiener aus Rom und soll in den nächsten Monaten via Time To Kill Records erscheinen.

Das gesamte Konzept des Albums beruhe auf einer persönlichen Darstellung des Todes, der unendlichen Leere, der großen Abwesenheit, der größten Erfahrung in Sachen Chaos und Störung der Realität. Es sei eine Reise, die das Ende des biologischen Zyklus und das Bewusstsein des Menschen für die uralte Idee “sterben zu müssen” erforscht, ein extremes, aber natürliches Ereignis, das zur Unvermeidlichkeit der Zeit gehört.

The Shadow Majlis is one of those projects that stands as a powerful example of how personal turmoil can ignite intense artistic creativity. Ali Jafri, a Toronto-based multi-instrumentalist, pours his deepest personal losses into this project, grappling with the devastating death of his seven-year-old son Oisín from brain cancer in September 2022, the dissolution of a significant relationship, and a year of housing instability.

The Shadow Majlis, pronounced “mahj-lis,” showcases Jafri’s wide-ranging musical abilities, featuring collaborations with bassist David J, known from Bauhaus and Love & Rockets, and drummer Rakesh Tewari, recognized for his contributions to Jaffa Road and The Special Interest Group. Beyond this project, Jafri has a rich musical history, including performing with David J’s live band, playing rock-sitar for Pigface, and leading his own projects like ARIEL, The Gotham City Drugstore, and Saintfield, not to mention his solo endeavors. This breadth of experience infuses The Shadow Majlis with a depth and complexity that resonate deeply amid the echoes of Jafri’s personal trials.

The heartwrenching lyrics for The Deer oscillate between the simplicity of a bedtime routine and the poignant recognition of an impending farewell. They capture a narrative of unexpected loss, fear, and the fragile nature of moments we often take for granted. A profound sense of helplessness emerges as the speaker wishes for more time and the ability to alleviate sorrow, ultimately guiding the listener towards acceptance and the finality of departure.

“The “Deer” in ‘Deer in the Headlights’ is Oisín as Oisín means “little deer” and is taken from Irish folklore,” says Jafri. “This song is special for me with its high energy percussion and features David J‘s bass line driving the rhythm section. It also features Soriah and his Tuvan throat singing, the meditative nature of the throat singing up against the franticness of the rest of the song, I think, is juxtaposed beautifully and speaks to the gracefulness that Oisín carried himself with amidst the difficulties he faced as a child dying from cancer.

“It’s apropos that his name means “little deer” because he was a graceful child,” Jafri remembers. “He lived and died with grace. The song also speaks to his short life and sudden decline – his cancer battle only lasted nine months. He had a huge impact on everyone that knew him and the bravery he showed in his last days is nothing short of incredible. We had a brief yet profound time with him. He’ll always be frozen in time at the age of seven – his short life, a moment of grace. We didn’t know what hit us, and we certainly didn’t see it coming til it was too late.”

The video for the song is a stunning treat, offering a deep dive into the innermost layers of the psyche in a shamanic-like exploration of overlaid visuals. It’s a striking, emotionally charged experience that connects viewers with a profound sense of spirituality.

The Shadow Majlis crafts an eclectic sound that marries Eastern musical traditions with the raw energy of post-punk, creating a groundbreaking, alternative neo-global style. Their latest album is a fusion of alternative and world music, enriched with complex rhythms and an array of global instruments. Spanning recordings from Toronto to LA, Portland to Istanbul, and beyond to Kyiv and Iceland, the album speaks in many tongues, incorporating Urdu, Farsi, Arabic, Icelandic, and Ukrainian alongside English.

This expansive project features a notable roster of international talent, including Ukrainian vocalist Olena Tsybulska from DakhaBrakha, renowned guitarist Mark Gemini Thwaite—who has played with The Mission and Peter Murphy—and cellist Anne Bourne, known for her work with Loreena McKennitt. The album also showcases Tuvan throat singer Soriah, tabla virtuoso Ravi Naimpally, sarangi master Pankaj Mishra, ney expert Selmanpak Ayduz, kemanche artist Kerem Koktas, and backing vocals by Sasha Singer-Wilson,

Calling the album a powerful achievement, David J says, “I believe that there are certain tracks and moments that act as portals into another dimension – I’m not being fanciful here!”

Moving from devastation through the creation of this album has been medicine for the soul, resulting in an alternative reality where we can all find solace and relief in music.

Produced and mixed by the three-time Grammy Award winner David Bottrill—who has worked with icons like Peter Gabriel, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Tool, and Muse—this album showcases his masterful touch. Bottrill’s previous collaborations with heavyweight artists and bands like Mastodon, Smashing Pumpkins, and at Real World Studios, reflect his deep experience and skill. The engineering by Darren McGill and mastering by Noah Mintz further elevate the project.

Die Death Metal-Band BANISHER hat mit “Demons” eine neue Single mitsamt-Video-Clip veröffentlicht. Der Song reiht sich in eine Reihe von Singles ein, welche die Polen seit ihrem letzten Album “Degrees of Isolation” (2020) veröffentlicht haben.

“Der Song erzählt die erschreckende Geschichte eines an Schizophrenie leidenden Mannes, der Stimmen in seinem Kopf flüstern hört”, erklärt Gitarrist Hubert WiÄ�cek. “Sie lassen ihn in einem Meer des Wahnsinns ertrinken, treiben ihn zu bösartigen Handlungen gegen seinen Willen und lassen ihn langsam seinen Verstand und seine Erinnerungen verlieren. Bei der Erstellung des Videos wurde eine Mischung aus innovativen Maltechniken und den neuesten KI-Tools verwendet.”

Mit der Platte führt die Band das Werk des 2021 verstorbenen WARLORD-Gitarristen William J. Tsamis fort, wie Sänger Giles Lavery  erklärt:

“Wir wollten zu Ende bringen, was wir für Bill begonnen haben und hatten genug Inspiration und starke Ideen. Bill ist an den Stellen zu hören, wo wir seine Spuren von den Demo-Aufnahmen ziehen konnten – ähnlich wie die Beatles kürzlich John Lennons Stimme von einem alten Demo-Band retten konnten. Doch dieses Album ist kein Demo, unser neuer Gitarrist Eric hat bei den Aufnahmen schwer geackert. Die gesamte Musik wurde von Bill geschrieben und wir sind dem, was er geschrieben hat, sehr treu geblieben.”

Los Angeles-based act Phantom Sister has announced their debut self-titled EP. This newly minted quartet could easily serve as the house band serving dark and atmospheric tunes for a cult indie film festival afterparty—one where the films are equal parts Spaghetti Western and shadow-soaked thrillers. Comprised of Alison Stolpa (Posh Decay), Alex von Klemperer, Craig Smith, and Vox Porter (Sleek Teeth), this ensemble revels in its eclecticism.

Phantom Sister’s music marries the twangy, expansive guitar of Ennio Morricone with the brooding vibes of Gun Club, girl groups of the ‘Wall of Sound’ 1960s, occasionally flirting with the unabashed rawness of Liz Phair, Siouxsie, and Hole, with a dark UK bands such as The Sisters of Mercy, The Rose of Avalanche, and Look Back in Anger. The band’s music gives off an eerie feeling that’s perfect for a late-night drive through dark and moody landscapes. And with their debut, they tap into a Lychian neo-noir vibe that’s a perfect match for the enigmatic moments of our lives, where mystery and mischief are always just around the corner.

The opening track, Creature Of The Night, offers lyrics that create a haunting and mystical ambiance, merging scenes of desolation with close encounters on a seemingly infinite road. These words paint a picture of a drive charged with tension, the allure of the unknown, and a profound, almost magical bond with the environment.  This is followed by Mirror Worlds: a deep longing and search for transcendence in the face of despair and dissatisfaction. As hope and ecstasy decay, the idea of alternate, more hopeful realities prove tempting. The recurring themes of rebirth and renewal (“Roses in spring”) suggest a cycle of suffering and restarting, seeking solace in dreams and metaphysical escapes.

Untrue addresses betrayal and loss, wasted time, broken communication, and unfulfilled dreams. The lyrics talk about the struggle with emotional cruelty and deceit in a relationship, and the final acceptance of its futility. Entrapment and intense emotional conflict take center stage in Nowhere To Go unyielding beliefs and an icy, hardened heart, culminating in inevitable confrontations within dreams. This battle of wills highlights a deep-seated resistance to escape.

Strange Days reflects a deep sense of isolation and melancholy, evoking feelings of being adrift and disconnected. An intense desire to escape their current state emerges, coupled with a profound sense of loss and disorientation. Finally, Failure depicts an intense internal conflict, likening the speaker to a moth irresistibly drawn to the destructive flame of desire. Despite efforts to resist, they are consumed by an emotional turmoil, marked by hope and repeated self-admissions of failure. The changing seasons deepen their sense of despair and entrapment in these feelings.

Die Melodic Death Metal-Band DARK TRANQUILLITY präsentiert ihr neues Album “Endtime Signals” mit einer weiteren Single und einem Video zu “Unforgiveable” bei YouTube, Sänger Michael Stanne beschreibt den Song so:

“Der Clip mit Livematerial aus der  Türkei und aus Mexiko von unserer letzten Tour zeigt die Band in ihrem wahren Element. Die Drums von Joakim Strandberg Nilsson und der Bass von Christian Jansson beschleunigen den Song auf ein Tempo, das man seit vielen Jahren von uns nicht mehr gehört hat. Die Gitarren bilden die Struktur, elektronischen Elemente unterstreichen die Atmosphäre der Verzweiflung. Dieser Song entstand aus einem kräftigen Kreativitätsschub, im Text geht es um Frustration und Hilflosigkeit angesichts von Unterdrückung.”

(Photo by Mick Peek) Out May 24 digitally and as a 7 inch vinyl via Metropolis Records is the brand new 3-track EP from the English cult post-punk act The Chameleons: “Where are you?”. It’s the band’s first new material in over 20 years.

“It’s exciting to finally be putting out fresh Chameleons material for the first time in over twenty years, although initially I found it quite daunting,” admits Mark Burgess, the vocalist/bassist of iconic post-punk band The Chameleons about their brand new single. “The question about new music is one I had been asked the most by people coming to our gigs, many of whom weren’t even born when our previous records were made, but were excited and inspired by the music enough to catch us on various tours.”

And he adds: “For the first time since the death of John and the departure of Dave, I felt we were a proper band capable of creating some interesting and exciting music.” The band’s original drummer John Lever died in 2017, while Dave Fielding left the band after the band’s reunion in 2000. The Chameleons announced 2024 consist of Mark Burgess (vocals, bass), Reg Smithies (guitar), Stephen Rice (guitar), Danny Ashberry (keyboards) and Todd Demma (drums).

(Photo via Magnum) Siouxsie Sioux and Iggy Pop have joined forces for a new advertisement for Magnum ice cream. The duo performs a duet of Iggy Pop’s iconic 1977 track, “The Passenger”, specially arranged for Magnum’s “Pleasure Express” campaign.

The arrangement was executed by composer Sarah deCourcy and transforms the classic into an ethereal track, featuring a slower pace on a backdrop of harps and strings. Both Pop and Sioux alternate vocals, building up to a joint performance of the song’s “La la la la” chorus.

Siouxsie Sioux seems to be quite happy with the collaboration, stating, “I love this song, and I’ve always admired Iggy’s voice. It’s truly magical to blend our voices in such an instinctive and spontaneous way.” Iggy Pop reciprocated, referencing Siouxsie and the Banshees’ 1987 cover of “The Passenger”. He says: “Siouxsie’s vocal prowess is truly bird-like. Her previous rendition was already exceptional, and this duet elevates it to something truly unique—like ‘Volare,’ it soars with an orchestral elegance and joyful spirit.”

Raymond Watts says: “I like to wrap the poison sweets in the finest treats and envisioned this as the sound of PIG officiating at my own funeral.”

The new PIG album “Red Room” features contributions from Jim Davies, a longtime member of Pitchshifter, along with Emily Kavanaugh (Night Club), Chris Hall (Stabbing Westward), Burton C Bell (Fear Factory), I Ya Toyah, Chris Connelly (Revco, Ministry), En Esch (KMFDM) and Marc Heal (Cubanate). “Red Room” will be released on May 17th by Metropolis Records on CD and through all digital and streaming platforms.

Die Hardcore-Band FELDSPAR hat einen Labeldeal bei Time To Kill Records unterschrieben. Im Zuge dessen werden die Italiener aus Rom – am Ende des Jahres 2024 – ihr erstes Album über das Label veröffentlichen.

FELDSPAR wurden Ende 2023 von Gitarrist Andrew Mecoli (GROWING CONCERN) sowie Gitarrist, Produzent und Songwriter Stefano Casanica (UNDERTAKERS) gegründet. Weitere Band-Mitglieder sind die Sänger Riccardo Zamurri und Anna Pasolini, Bassist Manlio Massimetti sowie Drummer Luca Micheli.

Mit “Nachtwächter” wird am 10. Mai 2024 via Noizgate Records das neue Album der Melodic Death Metal / Metalcore-Band MIR ZUR FEIER erscheinen. Es ist nach “Mir zur Feier” (2019) das zweite Album des deutschen Trios aus Bielefeld, deren Bandname von einer Gedichtsammlung von Rainer Maria Rilke stammt und das auch sonst die Texte des Poeten als Grundlage für seine Lyrics verwendet.

Yishai Sweartz of Tomorrow’s Rain and Berlin-based singer/composer Mona Mur are releasing a new album on June 20 via Soleilmoon Recordings. Titled “Clouds Of War,” the album is inspired by the life of Sweartz’s grandfather, Moshe Szniecki, a WWII Partisan. The music includes spoken word and experimental arrangements.

Yishai explains in the press release that “Clouds Of War” emerged from the compelling stories in his grandfather’s diary. During WWII, Moshe left his hometown at 17 after his family was murdered. He survived by joining a Partisan group in the Belarusian forests. He later settled in Israel, living peacefully until his death at 94. Yishai explains further: “During World War II, 17-year-old Moshe Szniecki left his hometown when all other members of his family were murdered by Nazi hordes. In the depths of the Belarusian forests, Moshe joined a Partisan group and fought boldly. Guided by what he called ‘The Codes of the Woods,’ Moshe survived.” He made it to Israel, married, and had a family with his wife Hanna and two daughters. He died peacefully at 94, at ease with himself. He survived.”

“To me, music is a sacred art form. You can transmit and connect on a level of empathy. Violence, cruelty, greed, ego, hate, contempt, hostility dissolve for a fleeting moment that still might change things profoundly,” explains Mona Mur reflecting on the conceptual side of the collaboration that lead to the release of “Clouds of War”. “What is the right look at the atrocities of war, holocaust, genocide ? Moshe Shnitzki, 17 years old, had to transform in a split second, in order to survive, from a pious teenage boy into a warrior. Fight back or die, head into the deep dark forest, leave a civilization that failed to rise up to its proper meaning. And survive. How does that feel, how does that sound ? This is what “Clouds of War” is about.”
