Die Metalcore-Band ANY GIVEN DAY geht auch im Winter 2025 wieder auf Tour, um ihr aktuelles Album “Limitless” (2024) vorzustellen. Dabei will die Formation auch erstmals eine Reihe von Städten anreisen, die bislang noch nie auf ihrem Tourkalender standen.

Geplant sind Konzerte in Jena, Potsdam, Dresden, Papenburg, Aschaffenburg, Schweinfurt, Lindau, Karlsruhe, Ingolstadt sowie Ulm.

Leider habe ich die kultigen und netten Boys von ON THE FLOOR aus Hamburg im Januar in der dortigen Markthalle zur Präsentation der neuen CD verpaßt.  Aber wer wie ich auf einen schicken 80er/90er Mix steht, der irgendwo zwischen LOVE LIKE BLOOD, IKON, ASH CODE, IN MY ROSERY, PINK TURNS BLUE, GIRLS UNDER GLASS, ACTORS sowie IN MITRA MEDUSA INRI, WIRES AND LIGHTS, A PROJEKTION,  GOLDEN APES und THE ESCAPE liegt, sollte hier zuschlagen und unbedingt reinhören. Der grandiose Darkwave / Postpunk/ Goth Rock Sound der Hamburger, die schon seit Mitte der 90er am Start sind, wurde von mir zwar erst spät entdeckt, aber  dafür nun um so mehr heißer denn je geliebt. Die zeitlosen und authentischen 10 Tracks der neuen Platte überzeugen mich zudem auch mit ihren atmosphärisch, intensiven Klanglandschaften und tiefgründigen Elementen, allein schon der melodiöse Opener und Club Smasher „Crying On The Dancefloor“ hat mich total weg „geflasht“. Das ist mal genial dunkler und hypnotischer Elektro Goth Rock. Bei „Embrace“ geht es dann wie in vielen Songs richtig gut rockig los, auch hier ein sehr schön eingängiger Titel. Die tollen Arrangements der fein austarierten Songs ziehen sich wie ein roter Faden durch die professionelle Produktion, mal sind sie druckvoller wie in „Go Away“ und dem Opener und dann wieder leichtfüssiger wie in der Powerballade „Keep The Flame“ oder in „Anyway“ sowie „Autumn“, angelegt. Die Platte sollte man außerdem am Stück hören, das Teil hier  geht viel tiefer als alles andere in dem Bereich aktuell.  Das typische Soundbild der Gruppe prägt Helge Jungmann mit seinen genau passend ausdrucksstarken, getragenen und markanten Lead Vocals am Mikro, an den straighten Gitarren sind Andre Lindner und Henning Thurow sowie Dennis Lindner am kongenialen Bass.  Für die Qualität der Band spricht auch, das sie schon Live mit CATASTROPHE BALLET, GIRLS UNDER GLASS, CLAN OF XYMOX, SHE PAST AWAY, PHILLIP BOA & THE VOODOO CLUB  gespielt haben und natürlich u.a. beim WGT in Leipzig dabei waren. Auch audiovisuell zeigen sich ON THE FLOOR im Video „Crying On The Dancefloor“ von ihrer kreativen Seite und wer mal etwas Livefeeling schnuppern will, sollte sich das Video zu „Calling“ geben, einfach souveräner und lässig, perlend, fließender Goth Rock in Perfection. Wenn ihr die Band also irgendwo live gucken könnt, laßt Euch das nicht entgehen.

Die Doom / Sludge Metal-Band CARNWENNAN hat mit “III” einen Video-Clip von ihrem kommenden Album “Lotus” veröffentlicht.

“”Lotus” handelt von einem Zeitalter des Leidens, aufgeteilt in vier Teile”, sagt Sänger Jack Jackal. “‘III’ handelt von Ausdauer und Akzeptanz, und das Video, das wir gedreht haben, soll diese Idee verdeutlichen. Die Arbeit an dem Video war ein Riesenspaß, aber es war auch eine Lektion in Sachen Ausdauer und Akzeptanz, da wir in einem unvorhersehbaren nordöstlichen Winter draußen im Wald daran gearbeitet haben.”

Es ist das erste Album des US-amerikanischen Quartetts aus Albany, welches aus Gitarristin Alexandria Ashpond, Bassist Alex Waters, der auch für das Cover-Artwork verantwortlich zeichnet, Gitarrist und Sänger Jack Jackal sowie Drummer Kevin Boutot (Ex-THE ACACIA STRAIN), der kurz nach den Albumaufnahmen James Leshkevich ersetzt hat.

“Lotus” wurde gemeinsam mit Ryan Slowey aufgenommen und von Brad Boatright gemastert und wird am 31. Mai 2024 via Darkest Records erscheinen.

Mit “Andromedas Colossus” wird am 17. Mai 2024 das neue Album der Sludge Metal-Band APE VERMIN erscheinen. Es ist nach “Sonic Monolith” (2018) das zweite Album des US-amerikanischen Trios aus North Carolina, welches aus Gitarrist und Sänger Brett Lee, Drummer Seth Lynn und Bassist Jared Edge besteht.

Die Stoner / Doom Metal-Band SALTPIG hat einen Labeldeal bei Heavy Psych Sounds Records unterschrieben. Im Zuge dessen wird das internationale Duo, welches aus Mitch Davis (SUNBOMB), der eher als Produzent bekannt ist, und Fabio Alessandrini (BONFIRE, ANNIHILATOR) besteht, am 31. Mai 2024 ihr selbstbetiteltes Debütalbum auch als CD und LP veröffentlichen. Im Eigenvertrieb erschien bereits die digitale und eine Tape-Version des Albums. Nach “Burn The Witch” und “Satan´s War” hat das Duo mit “Burning Water” nun einen weiteren Video-Clip veröffentlicht.

Produziert wurde die fünfte Platte in Zusammenarbeit mit Kristian Karlsson, Mix und Mastering übernahm Magnus Lindberg. “All Things Shining” folgt auf “Myriad” (2022) und erscheint auf CD, Vinyl sowie digital via Pelagic Records.

Background/Info: Police Des Moeurs is a Canadian formation driven by Francis Dugas and Manuelle Gauthier. The band has been busy for a while and has previously released four albums on Mannequin. “Commencement” is their first new opus in four years.

Content: I wasn’t familiar with this band and discovered an album that took me back in time. The 80s Cold-Wave inspiration is running through “Commencement” and is accentuated by icy, synth, arrangements. There’s a minimal touch running through the album as well while all vocals have been sung in French. Some passages might remind you of Kas Product.

+ + + : I first of all like the name of this project which can be translated as ‘vice squad’. Sound-wise the album doesn’t bring anything new and yet the retro-sound has a  refreshing aspect. I also like the minimal approach of the production but the main strengths are for sure the icy strings and sound sculptures which are mainly coming through at “Soif”. Last but not least I like this type of female vocals expressing less emotion.

– – – : The work is featuring a few outstanding cuts but unfortunately also a very few uninspired and flat cuts.

Conclusion: Police Des Mœurs has accomplished a promising album which gets us back in time and yet it has a refreshing, sexy, touch.

Best songs: “Soif”, “Cantique”, “Fatigue”, “Commencement”.

Die Death Metal-Band MIASMIC SERUM hat mit “Infected Seed” ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist das erste Album des italienischen Trios, welches aus Drummer Gabriele Marchioni (AFRAID OF DESTINY), Sänger und Bassist Julian Serrato (RESTOS HUMANOS) sowie Gitarrist und Sänger Vanny Piccoli (THE MILD) besteht.

Alle Texte in “Infected Seed” sind von verschiedenen Kulturen inspiriert, einschließlich persönlicher Erfahrungen in der Welt der Psychonautik, die mit den literarischen Werken von Aldous Huxley und Terence Mckenna aufgegriffen werden, zwischen dystopischer Fiktion und psychedelischer Kultur, die auf der hauptsächlichen Verwendung heiliger Pflanzen beruht. Weitere wichtige Themen sind die Eleusinischen Mysterien des antiken Griechenlands und die schamanischen Traditionen der Völker Südamerikas.

“The Complete Woes” is a sixfold threnody in remembrance of dissolution. A stroll through your sorrows in the tints of night and nostalgia. Presented in an ambitious CD Digipak, the first three songs were taken from the sold-out 2019 EP, “A Triad Of Incomplete Woes”, whereas the remaining three are previously unreleased.

R, the musician behind Fields of Mildew, prefers to remain in the background and instead let his musical creations speak for themselves. Consequently, not much is known about the project. It was founded in 2015, initially as a vehicle to explore concepts pertaining to the Teufelsmoor area of Northern Germany – in particular the brave souls who tried to carve out a living there in the 19th and 20th centuries. In modern German, Teufelsmoor literally translates to ‘Devil’s Moor’. However, it’s original meaning was something akin to ‘unfertile ground’. Both appear to be equally appropriate for this place, which is rife with human tragedy and dark superstition. And this is what the three first EPs – “I”, “II”, and “III” – were based on.

Los Angeles outfit Head Cut channels the uncanny spirit of an ’80s punk séance with their latest track, Red Cloud, summoning the ghostly vibes of the Batcave. Imagine Death Cult, Siouxsie & The Banshees, and Christian Death all caught in a blender—Head Cut’s the bartender, serving up a concoction that’s part nostalgia, part revolution.

Head Cut’s new album, Corazón Negro (Black Heart), doesn’t just rock the boat—it capsizes it. Amplifying the raw energy and fiery spirit of their debut, the band delivers a high-octane journey through a labyrinth of personal demons and societal chaos. At the forefront are anxiety and depression, set against a backdrop of tunes that champion Mother Earth and challenge social injustices. This album is a gathering where introspection meets rebellion, blending fantasy and reality into a vibrant soundtrack.

In the haunting lyrics for their latest single Red Cloud, a solitary figure treks a dark road, engulfed by the unknown. As ghostly presences watch and breathe from unseen places, a sinister ‘red cloud’ exerts an eerie influence, leading the protagonist to a shadowed meadow under a dim moonlight. This chilling vignette explores fear and the unseen.

“The band’s shared love of the experience of making our first record, the buzz that these individual songs created for each band member, as well as the ease with which we birthed new material were definitely a driving force influencing this new work,” says vocalist Sasha Green.

Head Cut reunited with longtime friend and artist Dale Dreiling for their album sleeve design and layout, which features original artwork by Indonesian artist Ezra Syahdian.

“Balas y Lagrimas” (“Bullets and Tears”) is a lyrical theme that is threaded through Corazón Negro and accompanies the frantic bass lines heard throughout the album,” the band says. “Corazón Negro has various themes but the message is singular: the world is on fire, we humans are the cause; we must love, learn, change, and come together. We must fight for good.”

Mekong is the brainchild of a mysterious Portuguese expat in Krakow, serving up a concoction of dark post-punk and a sprinkle of goth. This one-man show manages to deliver haunting tunes powered by beefy bass lines, dreamy guitar riffs, and the kind of synths that could make a grown man sigh.

This blend is a call from the heart of one particularly contemplative fellow holed up in Poland, tying together minimalism with a punch; imagine bass that walks through walls, and guitars that linger like the last guest at a party. Since dropping their first album End of the World back in 2021, Mekong has nudged its way into the dark corners of the post-punk scene, picking up nods of approval for its brooding yet unexpectedly introspective vibe.

The latest from Mekong, the concept album Danse Danse, whisks listeners away to the darker side of the dance floor. Known for stirring up the kind of tunes that stick with you like a foggy night, Mekong’s new project doubles down on the brooding vibes. This album serves as a veritable confessional booth, as Mekong continues to explore the theme of alienation, wrapping up all those chilly feelings and thoughts of disconnect in a package that’s both haunting and oddly reassuring—if your idea of reassurance comes with a side of existential angst.

Hunger Strike kicks off the album with a deep dive into emotional hide-and-seek. The dance floor morphs into her temporary haven, where she loses herself to the beat, embracing a trance-like state under the disco lights. It’s a farewell waltz to the tune of melancholic synths, as she drifts towards her shadowy curtain call. Then there’s Rebellion, where emotional turmoil feels as heavy as losing a loved one. The track captures a persistent, defiant sorrow that refuses to go quietly into the night, echoing the endless struggle against the pain that grips the heart.

Hopeless keeps it simple but heavy, serving up a no-frills blend of despair and a pinch of eternal optimism. Even as it wades through the murk of tough times, there’s a stubborn dream that refuses to die and a hopeful call to come back home. In Ice Cold, we meet a young woman battling her inner ghouls in splendid isolation. As the evening stretches, she spirals into a whirlwind of chaos and risky moves, her actions a silent scream for attention in a world that just isn’t listening.

Suicide Queen dives headfirst into the emotional blender, stirring up confusion with a healthy dash of angst. As they navigate their inner darkness, there’s a whisper telling them maybe it’s time to pull the disappearing act. Meanwhile, Picture of Wrong serves up a cocktail of chaos, mixing personal battles with guilty pleasures. But here’s the kicker: amidst the mayhem, there’s a glimmer of hope—if they can just play by the rules, redemption might just be on the menu.

Danse Danse cranks up the existential jukebox for a last hurrah at the club. It’s a doomsday disco where the party-goers are too busy grooving to worry about the morrow. The song spins a night of healing hearts and final farewells, promising an escape from misery into the sweet hereafter.

Two Thumbs Down serves up a hearty dish of raw disdain with a side of cyclical chaos. As the lyrics spin round and round like a bad day on repeat, the protagonist dishes out hate with the precision of a gourmet chef. Underneath the fiery façade, there’s a deep-seated pain that whispers, “Maybe it’s time to vanish.” In essence, it’s a breakup anthem for the soul, deciding it’s last call at the heartbreak hotel.

Finally, I Reached The End wraps up the icy feel of a solo winter’s night with a bit of a shrug. With every tick of the clock, they hint that the misery’s lease is almost up, and they won’t be around to renew it. By the time the sun rises, it seems they’ll have ghosted their own gloom.

Mekong spoke with Post-Punk.com about the album, their influences, and memorable moments in the band’s history.

Mekong’s sound incorporates a mix of dark post-punk and ’80s goth influences. Can you pinpoint any specific artists or tracks that inspired the haunting qualities of your music?

There’s a bunch of bands and records which I listen to quite often that, one way or another, end up influencing what I do. I could pin point a few records I couldn’t pass without at this point. A couple of classics from the early 80s like Pornography or Faith from the Cure, In the Flat Field from Bauhaus or Closer from Joy Divison. From newer stuff i can’t seem to get off Why Just Not Be Solo from Lebanon Hanover or anything from Forever Grey. Very simple, but super deep stuff.

“Danse Danse,” has been described as both minimal and powerful. How do you balance minimalism with the powerful emotions you aim to convey?

There was a point in my life where playing fast and complicated thing made my day. I was always looking for more note to add to a riff. Since I embarked on this journey with Mekong, I tend to look more for the feeling instead of the technicality of  the music. A proper loose note with the right amount or reverb goes along way, literally. I was able to put aside that idea of having songs written in the most common structure of verse, chorus, verse etc. I love getting a nice bass riff, some drum pattern I find suitable and stick to it for the whole song. I do this for myself, so I’m able to do just do what I feel like in that moment.

 “Danse Danse” is presented as a conceptual album focusing on a young woman’s struggle with alienation and inner turmoil. What inspired you to explore these themes?

While in my first record, End of The World, I compiled a group of songs I had written over the period of 3 years and put it together as an album, with Danse Danse I tried to give it the same feeling throughout the whole thing. I had the idea of making a film for the whole duration of the record and so, every song is part of that film. It’s the story of someone who seriously struggling with depression and addicted to all sorts of bad stuff. Some day, she decides to go out and ends up being involved in a series of bad episodes with other people around and end up killing herself that same night.
I had the whole film scripted and was ready to jump into production but I end up dropping the idea, at least for now, due to very long delays with the people I was going to do it with. The album has been ready since April 2023 and is only now seeing the light of the day due to this.
I am not sure where the idea came from. I guess I was just looking for story that was compelling but at the same time easy to enough to produce. We see more and more people with mental issues these days. Maybe there’s not so much stigma around it anymore and people just speak about it openly now. It is not meant to be any kind of warning or to create any awareness. It’s just a story.

How have these cultural and geographical shifts after moving from Portugal to Poland impacted your music?

I don’t think moving to Poland had any influence in my music, at least geographically speaking. When I was in Portugal I always played with bands but was doing a very different style of music. Back then I was playing mostly hard blues rock. But I always listened to many kids of music.
When I settled in Poland and was able to grab some gear, having a band and having rehearsals all the time and whatnot was not what I was looking for. I wanted to be by myself, do thing at my own pace and as I want. I could say that the greyness of Poland for a big part of the year could have something to do with it, but I think that the idea of making this kind of music was already in my head before I ever lived here.

What has been your most memorable live performance with Mekong so far?

This is a studio project, at least so far. Of course I though of the idea of putting a band together and play a few shows but for the time being, it’s not something I plan on doing in the near future. I do have plans for a live recording though.

Looking ahead, what are some goals or aspirations you have for Mekong? Are there any collaborations, live shows, or new territories you aim to explore in the coming years?

I started writing my next album. I have a few songs lined up already so releasing more records is definitely something I intend to do.

I would also like to explore more the visual part of the music. I would like to be able to do bigger productions for the videos so that is something I have in mind for the future as well. The first two singles of Danse Danse had videos done by a very talented videographer called Piotr Piatek(Pedro Viernes). We have a new video on the works for a third single to come out from Danse Danse and I hope we will keep on working in the future.

Another project, besides the new records and bigger video productions, is to record a live performance. I have been playing with the idea of taking 5 or 6 songs, and record a live concert, without any audience. I’m not sure if or when this will ever happen as with everything. There is a couple of artists/bands I would like to do some stuff with. Just a song. Why not?

Mit “Розірване небо (Torn Sky)” wird am 10. Mai 2024 via Kvlt Und Kaos Productions das neue Album der Blackened Death / Doom Metal-Band SIDUS ATRUM erscheinen. Es ist nach “Cold Silence” (2019) und “Spiral of Life” (2022) das dritte Album des inzwischen zum Duo angewachsenen Projekts aus der Ukraine, welchem neben Bandgründerin Yulia Lykhotvor nun auch Gitarrist Sergey Lihotvor, der das Album zudem gemixt und gemastert hat, angehören. Das Cover-Artwork stammt von Yulia Zhuchkova.

“Dieses Album spiegelt unsere Emotionen, Erfahrungen und Gedanken der letzten zwei Jahre wider, seit die Invasion in der Ukraine begann. Wir wollen es mit euch teilen und zeigen, dass Krieg keinen Platz in dieser Welt hat”, sagt das Duo.

Out now is a brand new version of the Front Line Assembly track “Molotov”, featuring Alex Reed of Seeming. The single comes backed by and instrumental version of the track.

On the new single, Alex Reed comments: “It was a thrill to work with Front Line Assembly and their music. “Molotov” offers a lot of what the band does best, and I aimed for a classic, melodic FLA sound in reshaping it. When it came time to lay down vocals, I got thinking about how cyberpunk narratives usually hinge on one big turning point—a single explosion, or the broadcast of a suppressed truth. And maybe that’s romantic, but it’s rarely how real-world change happens. I wanted a lyric that’s more about keeping your head in the game than lighting a fuse. And that’s an urgent message I think, because it turns out that villains can be unmasked and people will still vote for them. Change doesn’t just happen. So I wrote the words to explore differences between merely revolutionary aesthetics and real grassroots action. The song challenges us to remember that progress has more to do with commitment than exhilaration.”

Ich gebe offen zu, dass ich Billy Idol früher als BRAVO-Punk belächelt habe und es witzig fand, als damals Anfang der 80er Lol Tolhurst von THE CURE Backstage in seine Cowboystiefel uriniert hatte. Seit einigen Jahren habe ich jedoch diese Meinung revidiert, denn seine Songs sind einfach zeitlos und fetzten auch heute noch bzw. lassen mich regelmäßig bei unserer Berufsjugendlichen-Disko über die Tanzfläche zappeln. Auch Billy Idol hat durchgehalten bzw. den Erfolg, die Sucht und spätere Erfolglosigkeit, wie einen schweren Motorradunfall in den 90ern überlebt. Die zwei Werke „Devil’s Playground“ und „King & Queens Of The Underground“ nach seinem Comeback Anfang 2000 konnten zumindest von der Qualität der Songs her an die alten Hits anschließen und selbst die letzten beiden EPs „The Roadside“ & „The Cage“ hätten gut ein starkes Album sein können. Aktuell arbeitet er gerade an einem neuem Album, wirft jedoch zuvor noch schnell einen Blick zurück in die Vergangenheit. 1984 erschien sein zweites Solo-Album „Rebel Yell“, welches vor 40 Jahren ein doppelter Platin-Erfolg war und bis heute noch absolute Relevanz hat! Neben dem Titel-Song sind ebenso noch „Eyes Without Face“, „Flesh For Fantasy“ und „Catch My Fall“ zu ewigen Klassikern der 80er geworden. Auf Grund des Jubiläums wird das Album jetzt in einer erweiterten Deluxe-Ausgabe veröffentlicht und bietet zusätzlich 13 unveröffentlichte Songs, Demos, Versionen, Session-Takes und einen Remix. Neben den beiden bisher unbekannten Songs sind vor allem die Demo-Aufnahmen interessant und dabei insbesondere die frühe „Flesh For Fantasy“-Skizze, welche ursprünglich ein Up-Tempo-Song war und im Endergebnis deutlich von der Demo-Version abweicht. Bei der Vinyl-Ausgabe haben es dann zwar nur 8 der Bonus-Tracks auf die zweite Platte geschafft, aber dafür kommt Billy Idol auf dem stabilen Hochglanz-Klappcover besser zur Geltung und die Pressung ist hervorragend gelungen! Es gibt also einiges zu entdecken auf der neuen Deluxe-Ausgabe von „Rebel Yell“, ganz zu schweigen von dem regulären Album, das immer noch frisch, fett und rund klingt! Am heutigen Mittwoch, direkt nach der Arbeit, machen wir uns auf den Weg zum Veranstaltungsort. Da das Huxleys für uns (für Berliner Verhältnisse) recht weit entfernt ist, kommen erst wir gegen 18 Uhr an – und sehen eine lange Schlange vorm Eingang. Kaum haben wir ein paar Bekannten und Freunden hallo gesagt, da fängt es an zu nieseln, was die Leute aber nicht davon abhält, sich an ihren Plätzen festzuklammern, in der Hoffnung, einen Platz in den ersten Reihen zu ergattern. Leider hat man uns nicht gesagt, dass sich die Türen erst um 19 Uhr öffnen und nicht bereits eine Stunde früher, wie es auf den Tickets stand.

Im Konzertsaal angekommen, stellen wir jedoch fest, dass das lange Anstehen unnötig gewesen zu sein scheint, da sich zwar die erste Reihe prompt, der Rest der Halle hingegen langsamer füllt.

EMPIRE OF GIANTS

EMPIRE OF GIANTS betreten pünktlich um 20:00 Uhr als erster Act des Abends die Bühne. Die Band aus Berlin mit Sängerin (Cleanvocals) Kira und Sänger (Gegrunze und Geschrei) Basti brettern sofort mit 100 % auf die Konzertbesucher ein. Mitten ins Gesicht!

Wir hatten sie bereits als Vorband von LORD OF THE LOST auf der Homecoming Tour 2022 in Leipzig bestaunen dürfen. Der Grund für die Zusammenarbeit liegt wohl darin, dass Chris Harms der Produzent ihres zweiten Albums ist, das im Chamaleon Studio in Hamburg aufgenommen wurde.    

Der Auftritt ist eine gute Mischung aus Shouts und cleanem Gesang, harten Riffs und berührenden Melodien. Rundum gelungen und für Kurzweil sorgend, ging das Set gefühlt viel zu schnell vorüber.

Um 20.50 Uhr ist es Zeit für THE RAVEN AGE.   

Die Heavy-Metal-Band wurde bereits 2009 in London von Gitarrist George Harris, Sohn des IRON MAIDEN-Bassisten Steve Harris, und Dan Wright gegründet.  

Bis jetzt waren uns die Engländer unbekannt, obwohl sie in der Vergangenheit jedoch bereits mit IRON MAIDEN, VOLBEAT, SHINEDOWN und ALTER BRIDGE getourt sind. Mitte Juli 2023 veröffentlichten sie ihr drittes Studioalbum “Blood Omen”, von dem sie heute dem Berliner Publikum mehrere Songs wie “Parasite” oder “Essence of Time” präsentieren.  

Das Gitarrenspiel von George Harris und Tony Maue sticht ebenso hervor wie die Gitarrensoli, die Refrains bleiben im Ohr und lassen uns das Quintett im Gedächtnis bleiben.  

Neben Frontmann Matt James, der eigentlich meistens clean singt, sorgen George Harris und Bassist Matt Cox mit ihren Growls für zusätzliche Härte.

LORD OF THE LOST  

Pünktlich um 21.50 Uhr gehen die Lichter aus. Während das Publikum die Band mit Applaus begrüßt, hallt ein lautes und tiefes “LORD OF THE LOST, LORD OF THE LOST” durch den Saal. Das ist der typische Schlachtruf der sechs Musiker, den sie sich, bevor sie die Bühne betreten, von der Seele brüllen.   

Zum 15-jährigen Bandjubiläum wollen sich die Hamburger chronologisch durch die Alben arbeiten: Die Reise beginnt mit “Till Death Us Do Part“ vom Debütalbum „Fears“ (2010), um sich dann Schritt für Schritt bis zum letzten (reinen Cover-) Album “Weapons of Mass Seduction” aus dem Jahr 2023 vorzuarbeiten.  

Zum ersten Mal sehen wir die neue Besetzung der Band auf der Bühne: Benji ist seit Anfang 2024 festes Bandmitglied. Er klimpert Gitarre und steht recht häufig im Rampenlicht, da er oft die Soli spielt. Ab und an trommelt er auch ein wenig und übernimmt häufiger hohe Gesangspassagen. Seine Performance weiß zu überzeugen und wir finden, dass er die perfekte Ergänzung im Line-up ist.

Die Lichtshow ist bei den Konzerten von LORD OF THE LOST immer State-of-the-Art, ebenso die Akustik – zumindest bei den Konzerten, die wir bislang live miterleben durften. 

Huxleys Neue Welt ist an diesem Mittwochabend zwar nicht rappelvoll gefüllt – schließlich ist es die erste Tour, die in solch großen Hallen gespielt wird – aber die Location wärmt sich dennoch ziemlich gut auf. Die Menschen vor Ort sind (wie immer) teils tiefschwarz, teils quietschbunt, alle unterschiedlich und doch gleich. Uns verbinden zwei Dinge: Die Musik und die Message, die LOTL mit jedem Auftritt in die Welt hinausposaunen. Die Atmosphäre ist fast familiär, obwohl viele ihre Hände heben, als Chris Harms (seines Zeichens Frontmann) fragt, für wie viele es am heutigen Abend das erste LORD OF THE LOST Konzert sei.  

Die Show dauert mehr als eineinhalb Stunden. Das ist nicht ungewöhnlich für LORD OF THE LOST, die auf eine sehr umfangreiche Diskografie zurückgreifen können.  

Ziemlich am Ende der Setlist dürfen sich die Musiker der Band eine kurze Pause gönnen, während Chris mit seiner Gitarre die ersten Töne von “Lighthouse” spielt. Diesen Moment nutzt Gitarrist Pi, um sich vom Publikum durch die Crowd tragen zu lassen. Nach einer kleinen Runde wird er aber wieder heil vor der Bühne abgesetzt.

Kurz vor Schluss sollen den Fans noch drei Coversongs aus dem letzten Album kredenzt werden. Wer sich vorab im Internet beliest, findet online die gesamte Setlist – so sind wir darauf vorbereitet. Aber überraschenderweise wird vor diesem Trio noch ein weiteres, unerwartetes Cover gespielt, denn “In Berlin können wir doch nicht auf ein Cover einer Berliner Band verzichten” – so Chris. Sobald die ersten Töne von ‘Schrei nach Liebe’ von DEN ÄRTZEN über die Menge rollen, ist das Publikum kaum noch zu halten. Jedes Wort wird lauthals mitgegrölt: “Ooohoho, ARSCHLOCH!!!” Wir haben dieses Cover schon beim Lord Fest 2023 gehört und sind wieder einmal begeistert.

Mit ‘One Last Song’ findet die Setlist des heutigen Auftritts sinngemäß einen gelungenen Abschluss. Nach dem Konzert, auf den Straßen, in Bussen und Bahnen Berlins, hört man sie noch nachhallen, die Songs von LORD OF THE LOST. Für die, deren erstes LOTL-Konzert es war, wird der Abend noch lange in Erinnerung bleiben. Garantiert. Die Fanbase des Sextetts ist unglaublich loyal ihren “Helden” gegenüber, kunterbunt gemischt und so unterschiedlich man nur sein kann – und vor allem werden es immer mehr!

Das Gothic / Symphonic Metal-Projekt von RANTHIEL hat mit “I won’t let you go” eine neue Single mitsamt Video-Clip veröffentlicht.

Im Tiroler Bergland gibt es ein neues Open Air: Das INNFIELD FESTIVAL findet in A-6241 Radfeld (Tiroler Flachland, inmitten der Alpen) vom 28. bis 29. Juni 2024 statt. Als Headliner der Festival-Premiere wurden PARKWAY DRIVE sowie KREATOR verpflichtet, welche das Line-up der beiden Tage anführen. Neu im Billing sind PALEFACE SWISS, wie die Veranstalter nun verrieten.

Als Co-Headliner für den Samstag hat man zuvor außerdem DANKO JONES bestätigt.

Eine Möglichkeit für Nachwuchs-Acts, auf dem INNFIELD FESTIVAL aufzutreten, war zudem der ausgerufene Bandcontest. Zu gewinnen war ein Platz auf dem Billing und damit die Gelegenheit, einen der Festivaltage zu eröffnen. Bewerben konnte man sich per E-Mail, Einsendeschluss war 15. März 2024. Anschließend spielten die fünf Bands mit den meisten Stimmen am 27. April 2024 in der Coffeebar Innsbruck um den Festivalslot. Ermittelt wurde der Sieger mittels Jury- und Publikumsvoting (Gewichtung: 50/50).

Okay, liest man sich die Specs erstmal durch, klingt es beinahe utopisch, 20 Tracks in unter 35 Minuten (34:29) zu verwursten. ANCST machen das trotzdem. Einfach weil! “Culture of Brutality” steht in den Startlöchern und soll am 3. Mai 2024 die Gehörgänge und Lautsprecher geneigter Hörerinnen und Hörer fi**en. Dieses vierte Full-Length der Berliner Alleskönner soll diesmal ein weniger strammer vorangehen. Hat die Band auf den Vorgängern (nebst ihrer eigenen Version des Blackened Metalcore) auch hin und wieder Post und sogar Trve Black Metal angerissen, tobt man sich hier sprichwörtlich im Bereich Grindcore und Death Metal aus. Angereichert mit einer Prise Crust, Sludge und Hardcore, ergibt das einen Ohrenschmaus, der besonders schmerzhaften Sorte. 

Kredenzt wird auf der Platte rasende Wut und pure Energie, welche über die Hörerinnen und Hörer hinweg brettern und einen beißend aggressiven Nachgeschmack zurücklassen. 

Leichte Kost ist anders. ANCST sind ohnehin nicht dafür bekannt, den Lautstärkeregler zu verschonen, geschweige denn ein Blatt vor den Mund zu nehmen. 

Textlich behandelt Tom Schmidt, so der bürgerliche Name des Vaters dieses so energetisch-kreativen Projektes, Themen wie Gentrifizierung, Lohnsklaverei und Kapitalismus, Sexismus, psychische Gesundheit und die Probleme der modernen westlichen Gesellschaft. Brandaktuell also. Das Album soll uns die Augen öffnen. Und das tut’s auch! 

ANCST ist im Studio als ein-Mann-Projekt zu verstehen. Live hingegen beteiligen sich Robert Ott und Jonas Hasselhoff an den Gitarren an der Performance. Stefan Pannwitz sorgt mit seinem Bass für tiefes Blubbern im Gebälk und Conor Michael ballert mit seinen Blastbeats das letzte bisschen Verstand aus den Schädeln der Fans. 

Kennengelernt habe ich persönlich das Schaffen der Berliner erst mit “Summits of Despondency” aus dem Jahre 2020. Diese Platte war für mich die Einstiegsdroge und Grund, mich näher mit ANCST zu befassen. Ganz klar haben ANCST einen hohen Wiedererkennungswert. Sei es die gnadenlose Geschwindigkeit oder Toms Art und Weise, die Texte förmlich auszuspeien. Ich erinnere mich noch an einen Gig im Cassiopeia Berlin: Kaum dass der erste Track angerissen wurde, kochte der Club. Schweißgebadet, wie wir alle (sowohl vor als auch auf der Bühne) waren, wurden schonungslos unsere Gehörgänge malträtiert. 

Soviel zur Live-Performance. Kann der neue (kurze) Longplayer nun auch aus den Boxen dröhnend überzeugen? Wie eingangs erwähnt, handelt es sich um Schwerverdauliches. Echte Harmonien und Atmosphäre gibt’s kaum, war auch nie die Intention des Projektes. Gleich mit dem ersten Track “Armed with Despise” steigt man mit vollen 100 % ein. Von Null auf Hundert also. Nach bereits 1:12 ist der Titel vorbei. Ist halt alles gesagt (gebrüllt) worden. Auch beim zweiten Song wird nichts und niemand verschont. “Of Rusty Knifes” macht da weiter, wo der vorangegangene Track endete. Mit erster Bangbarkeit sorgt  “Chasing Horzizons” für Abwechslung. Anschließend knallt “Spanking Your Laser Brain” mit rasend schnellen Blastbeats einfach alles weg. Und so zieht sich ein Roter Faden durch das gesamte Album. 

Langeweile kommt gar nicht erst auf. Im Gegenteil – man kommt nicht einmal richtig zum Durchatmen. 

Hervorheben möchte ich “Edge of Reason”, der mit dunkel-melancholisch gespielter Gitarre nebst mitreißendem Rhythmus auch für ein wenig Melodie sorgt. Zudem holte mich “Tearless Oblivion” ab. Hier geht man zwar auch strikt voran, aber der Song brettert nicht nur erbarmungslos auf die Hörerin/den Hörer ein. Das Tempo wird sogar gedrosselt. Ein überaus passender Break im sonst so schnell gespielten Album. Mit “Lowborn Extinction” endet das neue Werk von ANCST. Dieser Track ist als Finisher überaus passend, verläuft er doch fast schon drückend-doomig und langsam. Zum Ende hin wird die Geschwindigkeit wieder ein wenig angezogen – vermutlich um das letzte bisschen Kraft aus der Nackenmuskulatur zu saugen. Live dürfte dieser Song für fliegende Köpfe und Matten sorgen. 

Alles in allem kann ich jedem, der mit Death Metal und Blackened Hardcore auch nur entfernt etwas anfangen kann, “Culture of Brutality” wärmstens empfehlen. Von Anfang bis Ende Energie, Wut, Aggression. Auch ich, eigentlich eher dem Black Metal frönend, finde die Scheibe extrem gut gelungen. Sei es wegen der Musik oder der Message. Es passt einfach alles!

Die Modern Progressive Metal-Band PERIPHERY hat eine neue Doppel-Single veröffentlicht. Darauf zu hören zwei Akustikversionen ihrer Songs “It’s Only Smiles” sowie “Scarlet”. Während Ersteres ursprünglich auf dem Album “Periphery IV: HAIL STAN” (2019) zu finden ist, ist “Scarlet” dem Zweitwerk “Periphery II” (2012) entnommen. Einen Clip zu “Scarlet” gibt es ab sofort bei YouTube.

Auch zu “It’s Only Smiles (Acoustic)” haben die US-Amerikaner ein Musikvideo gedreht. Als Gast ist bei beiden Stücken Gitarrist Mike Dawes zu hören.

PATHOLOGY, die Band um ex-CATTLE DECAPITATION-Drummer Dave Astor, veröffentlicht ein neues Studioalbum: “Unholy Descent” erscheint am 17. Mai 2024 via Agonia Records.

Mit einem Clip zu “Psychotronic Abominations”  stellen PATHOLOGY nun einen weiteren Song daraus vor. Als erste Single teilte die Death Metal-Band ein Video zu “Cult of the Black Triangle”.

“Unholy Descent” entstand im Sharkbite Studio, produziert hat die Platte Zack Ohren. Das Mastering kommt von Alan Douches, das Cover Artwork von Pär Olofsson.

Die britische Alternative Metal-Band ADHARMA hat mit “Rewire” eine neue Single mitsamt Video-Clip veröffentlicht.

“Bei “Rewire” geht es um den Kampf mit der eigenen mentalen Gesundheit. Das verzweifelte Gefühl, den Schmerz beenden zu wollen, aber nicht zu wollen, dass alles zum Stillstand kommt”, erklärt die Band.

Die Black / Folk Metal-Band PERCHTA veröffentlicht ihr zweites Studioalbum “D’Muata” am 14. Juni 2024 via Prophecy Productions. Die Platte enthält neun Tracks, den zweiten Preview-Song “Hebamm” kann man sich nun als Clip bei YouTube ansehen.

Auch ein Musikvideo zur ersten Single “Vom Verlånga” gibt es bei YouTube.

Inhaltlich dreht sich das Werk um die weibliche Sexualität, auch um der Thematik größere Aufmerksamkeit zu schenken und damit weit verbreitete Vorbehalte auszuräumen sowie mit aus der Zeit gefallenen Tabus zu brechen.

Die Progressive Metal-Band OU stellt ihr neues Album “蘇醒 II: Frailty” mit einer dritten Single vor: “輪迴 Reborn” bei YouTube.

Auch der Track “淨化 Purge” steht als Clip bei YouTube bereit und enthält ein Gastfeature von DEVIN TOWNSEND. Die Formation erläutert:

“[…] der Song wurde als eine Art brutale Meditation geschrieben, für zusätzliche Power fragten wir Devin, ob er bereit wäre, seinen ersten Song auf Chinesisch zusammen mit Lynn zu singen, zum Glück war er einverstanden, und das Ergebnis ist ziemlich beeindruckend.”

Außerdem gibt es den Titeltrack als Video bei YouTube. Zur Veröffentlichung des ersten Preview-Tracks hat die chinsesische Formation Folgendes zu sagen:
