Formed by the creative duo Ivi Topp and Lis Araignée, Denuit’s music is a striking fusion of electronic rhythms and gothic elements. Their results of sound and vision are an immersive audiovisual experience that inhabits the space between the clarity of day and the mystery of twilight, blending tasteful cyberpunk visuals with the dark lyricism of Edgar Allan Poe to create a sound that is deeply emotional and raw. Their tracks, carved from their most profound emotions, explore the complexities of love and the wonders of life, celebrating the perpetual rhythm of human experience.

At the heart of their unique sound is what Denuit calls ‘Night-Wave,’ an auditory collage that weaves together the ghostly influences of Siouxsie, Zola Jesus, Zanias, and Kompromat. This blend creates a spectral atmosphere of sound, a harmonious interplay of darkness and light, crafting a melodic embrace of the nocturnal and the ethereal.

Now Denuit are included in the compilation album RainBoWarriors Vol 1, with their propulsive French language darkwave banger, Cendre.

Throughout the track, Lis’s vocals crack like a silk whip, resonating with an eerie quality reminiscent of ancient laments that straddle two realms, as though suspended in the fleeting magic of twilight, where visions of the other side dance in the sky like Aurora Borealis that flicker and pulse with every beat. This spectral realm invites us to confront our vulnerabilities, celebrate our deepest emotions, and emerge refreshed, unburdened, and ready to start anew. Ivi’s haunting electronic elements and deep bass lines anchor the arrangement while synthesizers pulse rhythmically, driving the song forward in a dance that pays homage to the stylish traditions of French Cold Wave and Darkwave, expanding their dark, rhythmic legacy into something contemporary yet with style distinctly Denuit.

The lyrics to the gorgeous Cendre express a profound sense of loss and mourning, reflecting on the physical absence of a loved one whose body is lifeless. The singer struggles with the grief that feels like rain on their face, forgetting the scent but vividly remembering the stormy gray eyes of the departed. The pain is described as an all-consuming wound, and time feels frozen in their longing for the loved one’s return. The theme of impermanence is echoed with the repeated imagery of becoming and returning to ash.

Topp and Araignée have extended their musical expression into the visual domain with their stunning and professionally shot DIY video, which throbs with the energy of a nocturnal rave. This visual piece, with its repeated motif of the sands of an hourglass, serves as a summons for the departed to partake in the healing process, addressing the profound grief of loss.

Berlin’s CIERŃ, a band comprising Devi, Laura Bailey, Eduardo Saravia, and Justin Deaktivere, conjures up a potent blend of peace, post-punk, dark, cold wave, and anarcho-punk. Their music infuses elements of philosophy, politics, and raw emotion. Describing themselves as “witchy,” CIERŃ draws inspiration from bands like Xmal Deutschland, Siouxsie and the Banshees, and Skeletal Family. Their music features rapid-fire guitar riffs, piercing vocals, chilling minor chords, and haunting harmonies— a concoction that compels us to confront and exorcise anxieties about societal and environmental issues.

The band’s name, a Polish term for “thorn,” reflects their sharp and penetrating approach to music and activism. Symbolically, they adopt the rune Thurisaz, chosen by Devi, which represents the force of resistance—a fitting emblem for their confrontational and transformative style.

“It is a rune of protection against that which aggresses us,” explains Devi, pleading with listeners to place the same importance and value on all life, no matter where they are from. “We ask you to question everything… be conscious… think before you speak… think before you act… be aware of the impact you have in society and on everyone and everything around you… there is a ripple effect.”

The band have just released their fiery political collection of four songs: Flawless.

The album kicks off with Double Beat, a track that dives into the throes of anxiety with evocative imagery of time crawling to a halt and the heart skipping beats. The song navigates through emotions of despair and intense pressure, tied together with the primal “fight or flight” instinct. Its references to tarot cards weave in a theme of metamorphosis and the essential act of letting go to find peace.

Following this, Puppets takes the stage, exploring the theme of control and dominance exerted by modern media and technology. This track paints a bleak picture of an individual ensnared by external forces, transforming them into a mere puppet. The relentless bombardment of digital noise traps the listener in a cycle of obedience and turmoil, highlighting the struggle to reclaim autonomy over one’s thoughts and actions.

The standout track Disposable evokes the dystopian vibes of films like Blade Runner and They Live, delivering a sharp critique of the shallow and damaging habits of contemporary consumer culture. With a backdrop of chattering media pundits, the song delves into the concept of “synthetic love”—products crafted for quick allure but destined for the trash heap. It touches on rampant consumerism, ecological harm, labor abuses, and the mindless duplication of items, advocating for a shift towards more deliberate and sustainable consumption habits.

The album wraps up with the title track Flawless, a poignant commentary on the relentless beauty standards imposed from an early age. This track traces the transformation from a spirited child to a self-conscious teenager, manipulated by glossy magazine ideals and societal pressures. It champions self-acceptance, encouraging listeners to cherish their flaws and resist the psychological toll of self-imposed perfection.

Flawless by CIERŃ

In 2022, CIERŃ began writing new songs and began the process of recording them in October 2023 at Andere Baustelle Tonstudio, the home of Einstürzende Neubauten, in Berlin, Germany. Boris Wilsdorf assisted in recording and mixing the four songs. Afterward, Maurizio Baggio provided final mastering at La Distilleria in Vicenza, Italy.

CIERŃ’s first album, “The Emperor Rx” (2022), focused on a macro perspective of the world’s state, while their second album, “Flawless,” shifts to a micro perspective of how humans relate and exist in the world and their own reality. “Flawless” explores self-perspective, self-recovery, and self-acceptance, as well as the effects of large industries on climate change and the human race.

Amid the shadows cast by a global pandemic, the duo Life Without Love emerged from Sacramento, California, as if summoned by the distilled bleakness of times themselves. Comprising the enigmatic talents of David Garcia and Dawn Hillis, they craft a musical narrative steeped in emotion and a distinctly unique style. Garcia’s deep, resonant vocals and rhythmic mastery intertwine seamlessly with Hillis’s masterful guitar play. Together, they adorn their sound with the brooding depth of 80s post-punk and early 90s alternative rock with trace folk and ethereal accents, conjuring an ambiance that is at once hauntingly romantic and razor-edge-sharp. Their music is breathtaking and cinematic. Picture Wind Kissed Pictures and Atrocities era Christian Death embarking on a moonlit drive with early Dead Can Dance in the passenger seat, and The Shangri-las and the Cocteau Twins sitting in the back.

This partnership has its roots in Sacramento’s vibrant early ’90s scene. Garcia, formerly of the alt-rock outfit Phallucy alongside Deftones’ Abe Cunningham, brings a seasoned intensity to the duo. Hillis honed her skills in the San Francisco Bay Area with stints in bands like dark post-punk outfit ESSES.

Life Without Love has just released their second music video, Goodbye, which seems to have channeled some serious Columbo vibes. Except in this version, our protagonist isn’t just trying to solve a mystery; he’s tangled in the cords of his own emotional crime scene. Our main man is caught in a farewell more complex than one of Columbo’s long-winded, just-one-more-thing questions. He’s not ducking out because of a stint in the slammer, but rather due to the spectres of his own psyche. There’s a bitter twinge of relief as he escapes, yet the emotional strings are as knotted as ever. By the end, he’s remorseful, acknowledging the emotional havoc he’s wreaked.

Life Without Love took to the tranquil Sacramento suburbs to shoot the video, turning two sleek custom homes into scenes of a not-so-sleek crime.  Dawn Hillis rocks the role of a grifter driven to bump off her insufferable step-sibling, played with suitable arrogance by Joe Contreras. David Garcia steps in as the unflappable, cigar-chomping detective, whose entrance stirs up more than just ash, as if he swapped his Peugeot for a keyboard. As the tensions hit a high note, expect the kind of confrontational crescendo that could only end in one more chorus.

Behind the scenes, Rizz from VOWWS takes the director’s chair behind the editing desk—minus the rumpled trench coat. promising a film noir vibe that’s as moody as a dimly lit alley in a detective flick.

EPICA-Sängerin SIMONE SIMONS hat mit “Vermillion” ihr erstes Soloalbum angekündigt. Für ihr Debüt arbeitete Simons mit Arjen Lucassen (AYREON) zusammen; einen Eindruck der Kollaboration verschafft der Clip zur ersten Single “Aeterna” bei YouTube. Zum Track äußert sich das Duo wie folgt:

„Aeterna ist der große, epische Opener des Albums und es kommt auch mit diesem großartigen Video, das von Patric Ullaeus gedreht wurde. Es klingt definitiv am ehesten wie Epica und Ayreon, eine Mischung aus kraftvollen lateinischen Texten mit einem Hauch von orientalischem Flair. Wir haben versucht, ein Gleichgewicht zwischen den mächtigen, bombastischen Klängen und den eher atmosphärischen Teilen zu finden. Da es der erste Track ist, den die Leute von diesem Album hören werden, ist er für uns super wichtig und wir sind wirklich gespannt, dass die Leute ihn hören!

‘Aeterna’ nimmt den Standpunkt eines Sterns ein, der kurz davor steht, zur Supernova zu werden, um zu erforschen, wie alles im Universum miteinander verbunden ist, wie ein kosmisches Netz aus Sternenstaub. Es befasst sich mit unseren tiefen Emotionen, dem Bewusstsein und anderen Geheimnissen des Lebens, die die Wissenschaft noch nicht vollständig erklären kann. Im Wesentlichen ist es eine Reflexion über unseren Platz im weiten Universum und die Verbindungen, die uns zusammenhalten, da wir alle, um Carl Sagan zu zitieren, „aus Sternenstoff gemacht“ sind.“

Der verdutzte Blick auf den Kalender bestätigt es: Wir schreiben tatsächlich noch das Jahr 2024, können unseren Ohren aber zunächst kaum glauben. THE REQUIEM schrammeln auf ihrem Debüt, als wäre es 2007, wo zwischen MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE, AFI und I AM GHOST Teenager-Ängste und Weltschmerz Hochkultur feierten. Zumindest im Post Hardcore und der verwandten Emo-Schiene, deren stilprägende Facetten sich das Trio kurzerhand zu eigen gemacht hat.

„A Cure To Poison The World” fügt dem klassischen Sound zwar nicht unbedingt Neues hinzu, transportiert ihn aber mit Selbstbewusstsein in die heutige Ära, wo der punkige Anstrich von Stücken wie „Less Than Zero“ plötzlich wieder ungemein frisch wirkt. Erinnert die Gitarrenarbeit sowie der raue Gesang Damiens hier noch leicht an die RISE AGAINST der2000er Ära, sind es im hitverdächtigen „An Elegy Written On Porcelain Arms“ eher die eingangs erwähnten Genre-Vorreiter, die Pate standen.

THE REQUIEM schicken uns in eine verloren geglaubte Ära zurück
Kurzweilig ist die geradlinige und zumeist knackige Scheibe in jedem Fall, obwohl THE REQUIEM mit zunehmender Spielzeit doch ein wenig Elan verlieren. So bremst die Akustik-Ballade „Two Lovers Left Alive“ das Album zur Hälfte leider etwas aus, was die soliden aber keineswegs aufregenden Refrains im zweiten Abschnitt nicht wieder ausgleichen können. Wenigstens setzt der Gothic-Touch samt Spinett-Sounds in „Diary Of A Masochist” noch einen kleinen Akzent, dringt jedoch nicht mehr in die Höhen des Auftakts vor.

Wir könnten an dieser Stelle über verschenktes Potenzial lamentieren, täten den US-Amerikaner dann aber auch etwas Unrecht. Für ein Erstlingswerk ist „A Cure To Poison The World” schließlich eine beachtliche Unternehmung, die zugleich eben jene nostalgische Ader kitzelt, die wir mit dem Ende der MySpace-Ära schon fast verloren glaubten. Offenbar steckt im Jahr 2024 doch noch Leben in der Emo-Bewegung – das bestätigt uns jedenfalls ein zweiter Blick auf den Kalender, um die Möglichkeit eines unerwarteten Zeitsprungs ein für allemal auszuschließen.

Die Technical Brutal Death Metal-Band CARNOPHAGE hat einen Labeldeal bei Transcending Obscurity Records unterschrieben. Im Zuge dessen werden die Türken aus Ankara am 2. August 2024 ihr neues Album “Matter of a Dark Nature” veröffentlichen. Es ist nach “Deformed Future//Genetic Nightmare” (2008) und “Monument” (2016) das dritte Album der Band. Das Cover-Artwork stammt von Mitchell Nolte.

Die Technical Death Metal-Band EVILYN hat einen Labeldeal bei Transcending Obscurity Records unterschrieben. Im Zuge dessen wird das internationale Trio, welches aus Gitarrist und Sänger Anthony Lipari (THOREN), Bassist Alex Weber (MALIGNANCY) sowie Drummer Robin Stone (NORSE, ASHEN HORDE) besteht, ihr neues und erstes Album “Mondestrunken” veröffentlichen.

“Mondestrunken” wurde von Jeanne Comateuse (COMA CLUSTER VOID), welche auch das Cover-Artwork gestaltet hat, produziert. Ein Release-Termin steht noch aus. Vorab gibt es jedoch den Track “Penance” zu hören.

Und wieder kommt aus Mitteldeutschland, diesmal aus Dresden, eine ganz famose, grandiose Veröffentlichung. Ich bin noch völlig überwältigt über soviel Musikkunst aus deutschen Landen, man hat ja schon viel Bands und Gruppen über die Jahre rezensiert, aber das hier ist mal wieder ganz großes Gefühls Kino. Es geht um die Sängerin und Songwriterin TINE VON BERGEN und Pianist / Komponist TILL MORITZ MOLL, die mir ihr zweites Album und ein wahres Meisterwerk zugeschickt hatten, das bei mir nun mit wunderschönen Klängen zum Innehalten in Dauerschleife läuft. Wer auf einen Mix aus Heavenly Voices, ätherischen Ambient, Neo Classic und Dream Wave Pop im Sinne von Bands wie CHANDEEN, LOCUST, FLORENCE AND THE MACHINE, ENYA, DARK ORANGE, STOA, LONDON GRAMMAR, AGNES OBEL, OPHELIAS DREAM, LOVE SPIRALS DOWNARDS, BEL CANTO usw. steht, sollte hier unbedingt mal reinhören. Das Duo aus Dresden zelebriert mit den 11 Songs ihres Albums ein facettenreiches Kleinod mit leicht dunkler Atmosphäre und dezenter, kühler Elektronik und trippigen Beats, sowie himmlisch, poppigen und warmen Soundscapes. Dazu tront die elegante Stimme von Chanteuse TINE über allem und schwebt gekonnt durch die Lieder. Die wahnsinnig intensiven Stücke offenbaren nach und nach enormes Potential. Auch audiovisuell wissen die beiden vollends zu überzeugen, guckt Euch bitte die Videos vom Übersong „Ocean“, von „Light“ und „Golden Hour“, „Superman“ oder „Water“, „Islanders“ einmal an, hier wird großartige, kreative Filmkunst mit ihren Songs thematisch wunderbar verbunden. Ich empfehle auch die Platte mit Tracks wie „Solace“, „Mother“, „People At Parties“, und den oben erwähnten Titeln komplett am Stück zu genießen, ihr werdet danach sofort die Repeat Taste drücken, das hier macht definitiv süchtig und das ist in dem Fall auch gut so. Diese Platte ist wohl etwas für Romantiker/Melancholiker oder paßt gut zu einem Herbst Spaziergang in lichtdurchfluteten Parks sowie einem langen, nachdenklichen Blick zum Horizont. Zu diesen Cinematic Klanglandschaften kann man sich aber auch bei einem Wein am Kamin einfach wunderbar fallen lassen, hier ist der Soundtrack und die ultimative Reise zu Euren Tagträumen. Lasst Euch mit „Solace and Light“ verzaubern und taucht ein in diese Welt großartiger Musik von 2 sehr sympathischen Künstlern.

Die Psychedelic Blues Rock-Band ANANDA MIDA hat mit “Live at Duna Jam” ein neues Live-Album angekündigt.

“Am Dienstag, dem 20. Juni 2023, hatten wir das Privileg, live für das Duna Jam-Publikum aufzutreten, während die Sonne über dem Strand unterging und Hitzewellen zusammen mit Sandstürmen aus der Sahara im Westen aufstiegen. Es war ein unvergessliches Konzert, das einen tiefen emotionalen Eindruck bei uns hinterlassen hat, denn die gesamte Szene und Atmosphäre schien sich sozusagen in ihrer eigenen Raum-Zeit zu „kristallisieren“”, sagt die Band.

“Live at Duna Jam” folgt auf das dritte Album der Band, “Reconciler” (2023), nach und wird am 12. Juli 2024 via Heavy Psych Sounds erscheinen. Vorab gibt es mit “The Future” einen Live-Video-Clip.

Die Mittelalter Rock- / Power Metal-Band FEUERSCHWANZ hat am 3. Mai 2024 das neue Album “Warriors” auf CD, Vinyl sowie digital veröffentlicht. Das Besondere an der Platte: Ersmtalig wurden die Songs komplett in englischer Sprache eingesungen. Hierzu haben die Erlanger ein neues Stück komponiert, eine Cover-Version aufgenommen und zehn weitere Tracks ihres Backkatalogs in die Fremdsprache übertragen. Einen Clip zum Song “Wardwarf” kann man sich jetzt bei YouTube ansehen.

Die Neuinterpretation des Stücks “Valhalla Calling” gibt es ebenfalls als Video bei YouTube. Im Original stammt der Song von Miracle of Sound, der auf YouTube für seine Rock- und Metal-Songs über Videospiele bekannt ist.

Den neuen Titel “The Unholy Grail” gibt es als animierten Clip bei YouTube – das Stück enthält Gastauftritte von Seeb Levermann (ORDEN OGAN) sowie Felix Heldt (DOMINUM).

Die Brutal Death Metal-Band MONUMENT OF MISANTHROPY hat nach dem Lyric-Video zu “How To Make A Killer” und dem Track “The Atascasdero Years” mit “A Nice Beheading for MoM” einen Video-Clip ihres kommenden Albums “Vile Postmortem Irrumatio” veröffentlicht. Das nach “Anger Mismanagement” (2014) und “Unterweger” dritte Album der Österreicher ist wie auch schon der Vorgänger ein Konzeptalbum über einen Massenmörder: diesmal handelt es sich um Edmund Kemper III.

“Vile Postmortem Irrumatio” wurde von Jei Doublerice bei Doublerice Audio gemixt und gemastert. Erscheinen wird das Album am 26. Juli 2024 via Transcending Obscurity Records.

If the New Wave and post-punk gods dropped acid and threw a party in a vintage record store, they’d probably end up sounding something like Pink Stiletto. With a sound that’s as eclectic and avant-garde as ZE Records on a sugar rush, this band is all about merging the glitzy allure of disco with the gritty punch of punk, all while throwing in a good measure of funk’s groove, the kitschy charm of obscure European vinyl, 1980s Saturday morning cartoon antics, and the peculiar quirks of New Wave. Pink Stiletto echoes the creative spirit of downtown New York, with a nod to icons like Gina X, Tubeway Army, Taxi Girl, and Cristina.

Meanwhile, Pink Stiletto mastermind Valery Kvochkova’s latest bop, Ice Eyes, feels like a love letter to French New Wave and Neo-Noir cinema, sung in a sultry mix of French and English and draped over an infectious groove. Ice Eyes has a dark side, however, as it delves into the chilly void left by lost love, evoking a haunting sensation of rejection and sorrow. Its name captures the frosty, lifeless stare of a once-warm gaze, lingering hauntingly in one’s vision at night, a relentless reminder of what’s been lost.

This song also features an alien-sounding experimental guitar by Miguel (Kontrol Inc), with harmonized noise wailing waves dripped in phaser and chorus. Jimmy Bronson (Protocultura) played the drum machine DX smasher kick and snare. Kvochkova paid homage to the French new wave band Opera De Nuit, whose music and poetry helped her a lot through dark times.

“For me, love-ache was always reflected so well in the French New Wave/Noir movies,” she says. “I wanted to bring a modern yet classic post-punk twist to it….Daniel Ash and Rowland Howard always on back of my head when it comes to lyrics. Especially raw delivery. It was all about the feelings for them. They weren’t afraid to speak up about deep stuff you know. And this song was a purging moment for me emotionally.”

The video and artwork for Ice Eyes are a vibrant clash of Liquid Sky’s psychedelic visuals and the Misfits’ punk rock rawness, creating a captivating aesthetic. Art direction, styling, costumes, and props were masterfully handled by Elias Martinez and Orchid Taylor, who chose to shoot the project on VHS and edit using a visual synthesizer. This choice imbues the footage with a gritty, live glitching effect that mirrors the raw emotion and nostalgic edginess of the song, enhancing its impact by visually echoing its themes of haunting loss and icy detachment.

So, lace up your dancing shoes—or hey, your pink stilettos—and get ready to boogie as if the gloomy-eyed ghost of Rowland S Howard himself is watching.

With an impressive debut performance alongside renowned artists like David Microwave Javelosa of Los Microwaves, members from The Units and Tuxedomoon, and special guest Miguel Gomez of Kontrol, Pink Stiletto, under Kvochkova’s leadership, promises an electrifying future.

Der Song, der auf das 2022er-Debütalbum “Mannequin” folgt, befasst sich mit Depressionen und dem damit verbundenen unvermeidlichen emotionalen Zusammenbruch. Der Text berührt Themen wie Apathie und intensive körperliche und geistige Erschöpfung und beschäftigt sich schließlich mit der bipolaren Störung, die eine echte innere Konfrontation mit der eigenen Depression darstellt.

Die Post-Black Metal / Dark Hardcore-Band MACHUKHA hat mit “Inodi padaye snih tak lahidno krizʹ sosnovu khvoyu” einen Video-Clip ihres kommenden Albums “Mochari” veröffentlicht. Es ist das erste Album der ukrainischen Band und handelt von der Widerstandsfähigkeit, als dass es um die menschliche Fähigkeit, Grausamkeiten zu überstehen und Tag für Tag weiterzuleben, geht.

“Mochari” wurde gemeinsam mit Jan Oberg (EARTH SHIP, GRIN) im Hidden Planet Studio aufgenommen und von Jack Shirley (u.a. für WIEGEDOOD tätig) in den The Atomic Garden Studios gemixt und gemastert. Erscheinen wird das Album am 7. Juni 2024 via Consouling Sounds. Vorab gibt es mit “Bezpliddya” einen weiteren Video-Clip.

“Sängerin Natalya schrieb den Text, nachdem sie zum ersten Mal einen Anfall unbekannter Ursache erlitten hatte”, erklärt die Band. “Der erste Anfall war ein extrem schmerzhafter, bei dem sich ihr ganzer Körper verkrampfte und zuckte, gefolgt von stundenlanger Unfähigkeit, sich zu bewegen. Eine Zeit lang litt sie weiter unter diesen Anfällen, die sie an allem anderen hinderten, insbesondere an der Teilnahme am gesellschaftlichen Leben. Der Text beschreibt die Gefühle, die man in einer solch schwierigen Situation empfindet – nicht in der Lage zu sein, aufgrund einer körperlichen und/oder geistigen Krankheit voll und ganz zu leben und die Ursache der Krankheit nicht zu kennen.”

Mit “Altar Of Instant Gratification” wird in wenigen Wochen das neue Album der Metalcore / Hardcore-Band DUFT erscheinen. Es ist das erste Album der Isländer und wird am 17. Mai 2024 via Scarlet Records erscheinen. Produziert wurde das Album von Leifur Örn Kaldal und Þorsteinn Gunnar Friðriksson im Veldið Studio, während das Cover-Artwork von David Demaret stammt.

“Altar Of Instant Gratification” handelt vom allgegenwärtige Gefühl, dass der Planet Erde in sich zusammenfällt. Vorab gibt es nach dem Video-Clip zu “Instant Gratification” und dem Song “Caved In” mit “Only Dead Fish Follow The Stream” nun einen weiteren Video-Clip.

Reicht ein neuer Song, um auf Headline-Tour zu gehen? Die Antwort kennen wir bereits im Vorfeld, denn eine Abendkasse wird es in München heute nicht mehr geben. Dass das Backstage Werk an seine Fassungsgrenze kommen würde, dürfte Szene-Kennern derweil nur ein bestätigendes Nicken entlocken, war doch schon beim letzten Gastspiel der französischen Metalcore-Durchstarter LANDMVRKS die Bude voll. Als Kopf eines wirklich fabelhaften Billings, das neben GUILT TRIP mit LIKE MOTHS TO FLAMES sowie THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA sogar zwei erlesene Gäste aus Übersee umfasst, kann sich das Quintett folglich entspannt zurücklegen: Mehr Pflichttermin geht für Genre-Freunde an diesem Dienstagabend kaum.

GUILT TRIP

Wohl auch deshalb lässt es die bayerische Landeshauptstadt keineswegs langsam angehen: Der zunächst erstaunlich leere Innenraum des Werks füllt sich im Eiltempo, als pünktlich um sieben erstmal die härteren Bandagen aufgezogen werden. Denn GUILT TRIP fallen musikalisch mit ihrem metallischen Hardcore ein wenig aus dem Rahmen: Thrash-Anleihen, wie sie teilweise auch HATEBREED pflegen, durchziehen Stücke à la „Sweet Dreams“ oder das selbstbetitelte „Guilt Trip“.

Das Ganze untermauern die Briten mit einem mächtig drückenden Groove, so dass im Münchner Pit binnen Sekunden die Gliedmaßen durch die Luft rauschen. Ehrensache ist das allein deshalb schon, weil Frontmann Jay Valentine – heute sogar bauchfrei – auf der Bühne ebenfalls nicht zurückhält. Es sei schließlich eine verdammte Hardcore-Show; für den Shouter Grund genug, selbst ein wenig Genre-Akrobatik zu betreiben.

GUILT TRIP sorgen dafür, dass schon frühabends alles gegeben wird

Anfangs zurückhaltende Zuschauer:innen gewinnen GUILT TRIP so jedenfalls schnell für sich, weshalb auch der gewünschte Circle Pit in „Eyes Wide Shut“ einen stattlichen Durchmesser erreicht. Zwischen 2Step, Violent Dancing und den obligatorischen Spinkicks freut sich der Anheizer über das gewünschte Resultat und die Erkenntnis, dass im Backstage heute wirklich alles gegeben wird. Als Dank verbringt Sänger Jay den letzten Song auf Augenhöhe mit seinen Fans, wo er sich an der Absperrung im Fotograben für das knackige „Thin Ice“ stimmliche Unterstützung einholt.

LIKE MOTHS TO FLAMES

Frontmann Chris Roetter muss seine britischen Kollegen wohl verschlafen haben, ansonsten hätte er die Münchner:innen wohl kaum mit derart markigen Worten begrüßt. „Wake the fuck up!“  könnte man in der Halle durchaus als Affront verstehen, so turbulent wie es bislang zuging. Vielleicht will der Shouter aber nur die bestmöglichen Erinnerungen seines „ersten Gastspiels“ in der bayerischen Millionenstadt mitnehmen. Tatsächlich scheint es bisweilen so, als würde Roetter die gute Stimmung regelrecht erzwingen wollen, während er sich zwischen den Stücken um Kopf und Kragen redet.

Zumindest können sich LIKE MOTHS TO FLAMES glücklich schätzen, dass die Menge den unablässigen Befehlston sportlich nimmt. Gesprungen wird schon zum Anfangsdoppel „Angels Weep“ und „Habitual Decline“, bevor Circle Pit und Wall of Death die obligatorische Metalcore-Aerobic komplett machen. Warum das Quartett – der Bass kommt wie so oft vom Band – aber durch endlose und dabei nichtssagende Ansagen sein Set selbst immer wieder ausbremst, ist allein schon wegen der knapp bemessenen Spielzeit nur schwer nachzuvollziehen.

LIKE MOTHS TO FLAMES-Drummer Roman Garcia ist kaum zu bremsen

Wenigstens im Zentrum zeigt man sich gnädig: Vollen Körpereinsatz gibt es von Anfang bis Ende, selbst wenn LIKE MOTHS TO FLAMES heute irgendwie neben der Spur laufen. Vor allem der Klargesang Zach Pishneys ist in dieser halben Stunde mehr als wackelig und wird dem Songmaterial in keiner Weise gerecht. Ein leicht enttäuschendes Städte-Debüt also, das mit Drummer Roman Garcias belebender Performance aber wenigstens ein echtes Highlight zählt.

THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA

Bald zwei Dekaden Bandgeschichte haben THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA schon geschrieben – ein Erfahrungsschatz, welcher den US-Amerikanern deutlich anzumerken ist. Das beginnt beim stimmigen Spoken-Word-Intro im Stile BRING ME THE HORIZONs und endet mit der Soundproduktion, die mittels geschickt platzierter Snare-Bombs eine massive Klangkulisse ins Backstage zaubert.

Wie viel eine Performance darüber hinaus durch live gespielte Instrumente hinzugewinnen kann, zeigt uns Keyboarder Jonathan Gering, der die Pianoklänge im eindringlichen „Outnumbered“ höchstselbst übernimmt und auch sonst für stimmige Soundscapes sorgt. Damit reißen uns THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA quasi aus dem Stand mit, während sie das größtenteils aktuelle Material mit dem einen oder anderen Klassiker ergänzen.

THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA lassen die Bühne des Backstage klitzeklein aussehen

Abwechslung vom Pit bieten das rockige „Salt“, wo Shouter Mike Hranica sogar selbst zur Gitarre greift, oder das melancholische „Broken“, wo die ersten Crowdsurfer über den Wellenbrecher gereicht werden. Klingt der Klargesang Jeremy DePoysters in den ersten Minuten noch ein kleines bisschen heiser, erlangt der Gitarrist aber schon bald darauf erst seine Form und dann die Abenteuerlust zurück: Während des schleppenden „Hallucinate“ verabschiedet sich der Musiker kurzerhand von den Brettern, um sich spielenderweise bis zum Mischpult durchzuschlagen, wo er in der verdutzt dreinblickenden Menge die finalen Akkorde anschlägt.

Eine Dreiviertelstunde lang wechseln THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA zwischen gefühlvoll sowie unerbittlich und lassen die Bühne des Werks dabei klitzeklein aussehen. So viel Bewegung und Gewusel erlebt die Halle dort nicht jeden Tag, so dass sich die Münchner:innen schlussendlich fast schon verpflichtet fühlen, die letzten Sekunden der Single „Sacrifice“ mit einer mehr als stattlichen Wall of Death zu veredeln.

Hätte man soeben schon irrtümlicherweise die Hauptattraktion vermuten können, wird es um kurz vor Zehn in den vorderen Reihen nochmal ein ganzes Stück kuschliger. Auf der Bühne geht es derweil ungleich geräumiger zu: Im Rücken des Drumsets bilden zwei LED-Screens das stilisierte V, welches wiederum durch zwei bunte Leuchtelemente in Motten-Form eingerahmt wird. Die restlichen Meter der Fläche beanspruchen LANDMVRKS komplett für sich – nutzen werden die fünf Musiker davon erfahrungsgemäß jeden Zentimeter.

Dennoch runzeln wir zunächst erstmal die Stirn, als Sänger Flo zum Auftakt seine Sprechgesangskünste zur Schau stellt. Dass die neue Single „Creature“ aber wider Erwarten doch ein clever gewählter Opener ist, offenbart sich uns mit dem fließenden Übergang ins Aggressive, als im Backstage mit einem Schlag der Wahnsinn Einzug erhält. Eigentlich ist es schon ab diesem Moment ein regelrechter Siegeszug, den die Franzosen hier auskosten dürfen.

Pausen gönnen uns LANDMVRKS einzig durch die vielseitige Songauswahl

Bei gutem Sound und mit einem gesanglich fantastischen Frontmann an der Spitze treiben LANDMVRKS nicht nur die Temperaturen an den Rand des Erträglichen, auch im Publikum überschlagen sich auf einmal die Ereignisse. Die stilistische Vielseitigkeit der Band spiegelt sich auch dort, wo in den eingängigen und melodiebetonten „Blistering“ oder „Scars“ noch in Scharen gesprungen wird, sich der Innenbereich der Arena aber in „Death“ zu einem einzigen gewaltigen Pit wandelt. Das Backstage im Ausnahmezustand? Für uns keine Seltenheit und dennoch müssen wir sehr lange überlegen, ob wir im Zentrum schon einmal diese Ausmaße bewundern durften.

Die Taktung bleibt dabei straff, die nötigen Pausen verschaffen uns LANDMVRKS weniger durch Geplänkel zwischen den Stücken, sondern durch die Songauswahl, wo etwa der ruhige Auftakt von „Visage“ mit Drumpad und Rap-Einlage wahlweise zum Durchatmen oder Crowdsurfen einlädt, bevor ein Singalong à la „Tired Of It All“ eben genau selbiges herausfordert. Mit Erfolg: Stimmlich ist das Backstage heute absolute auf der Höhe, textsicher sowieso.

In weniger als einer Stunde bringen LANDMVRKS das Publikum an seine Grenzen

Dass es neben den zahlreichen Hits mit „Hollow“ einen kurzen Verweis auf die Anfangstage ins Set geschafft hat, ist derweil genauso erfreulich wie das neu hinzuaddierte „Suffocate“, dessen erste Hälfte Sänger Flo nur mit der Gitarre in der Hand im Alleingang darbietet. Das Song-Doppel markiert eine geschickt platzierte Zäsur vor dem Schlusssprint, der uns mit „Rainfall“, „Lost In A Wave“ und „Self-Made Black Hole“ noch einmal alle verbliebenen Energiereserven abverlangt.

Nicht einmal eine Stunde dauert diese Headline-Vorstellung und doch sind wir zum Ende hin fix und fertig – eine Kombination aus maximaler Intensität gepaart mit einem Hallenklima, für das so manche Wellness-Oase Sauna-Aufschlag kassieren würde. Nicht zuletzt deshalb sind wir ob der eigentlich dürftigen Spielzeit heute gnädig, zumal die Chemie zwischen Band und Fangemeinde darunter kein bisschen zu leiden scheint: Shouter Flo reicht auch mal den ankommenden Crowdsurfern die Hand, bevor sich der Frontmann für das Finale selbst in den Graben wagt, um punktuell das Mikro an die euphorischen Fans weiterzureichen. Letztlich müssen wir unsere eingangs gestellte Frage somit neu fassen: Wenn bereits ein neuer Song ausreicht, um das eigene Publikum derart zur Ekstase zu bringen, wie groß müssten wohl künftig die Hallen werden, um einer Band wie LANDMVRKS Herr zu werden, wenn sie ein komplettes neues Album im Schlepptau hat? Die Antwort dürfte wohl nicht mehr in allzu ferner Zukunft liegen.

Die Technical Death Metal-Band APOGEAN hat nach dem Video-Clip zu “Thousand-Yard Glare“, dem Lyric-Video zu “With Which Ear You’ll Listen” und dem Video-Clip zu “Bluelight Sonata” mit “Imposter Reborn” einen weiteren Video-Clip ihres aktuellen Albums “Cyberstrictive” veröffentlicht. Es ist das erste Album der Kanadier aus Toronto, die 2021 die mit der EP “Into Madness” debütierten.

“Cyberstrictive” wurde von Zack Ohren gemixt und gemastert und mit einem Cover-Artwork von Mark Erskine ausgestattet. Erschienen ist das Album am 8. März 2024 via The Artisan Era.

APOGEAN sind Sänger Mac Smith, die Gitarristen Jack Post und Dexter Forbes, Bassist Robert Tam sowie Drummer Jacob Wagner.
