Aller Anfang ist schwer, weshalb es für Luke Caley und Jake Crawford sicherlich nicht von Nachteil ist, auf eine gemeinsame Vergangenheit zurückzublicken. Da für beide Musiker die Trennung PRESS TO MECOs offenbar nicht zugleich das Ende ihrer Zusammenarbeit bedeuten sollte, kann sich nun das Nachfolgeprojekt im Mindesten über eine grundsolide Basis freuen. Tatsächlich sind die Parallelen zur Vorgängerband zu erkennen, wenngleich UNPEOPLE keineswegs eine bloße Fortführung unter anderem Namen bedeutet.

Nicht nur das Line-up setzt sich neu zusammen, auch stilistisch erkundet die Formation teils neue Ufer. So verschmelzt das Quartett seinen Alternative Metal mit Grunge- und (Punk-)Rock-Einflüssen, was in einem vertrauten und doch frischen Sound resultiert. Die fünf Songs der selbstbetitelten Debüt-EP sind modern, catchy und belebend, wenn etwa „Waste“ die unbeschwerte Energie GREEN DAYs mit dem Biss BEARTOOTHs zu einer kauzigen Hymne vermengt.

Obgleich das grungige „Smother“ genau wie der härtere Ausbruch in „Going Numb“ zwischenzeitlich die missmutige Seite der Band zeigen, versprühen die Arrangements zumeist eine erstaunlich heitere Grundstimmung. Das steht eigentlich im krassen Gegensatz zu den introspektiven Texten, wo Crawford voller Selbstzweifel seine angeschlagene seelische Gesundheit vor uns ausbreitet. Und doch scheint der Kontrast natürlich, als repräsentiere er die Maske, die wir oft im Alltag tragen müssen.

Insofern fungiert UNPEOPLE auch als Ventil, das mal energischer („Moon Baboon“) mal beschaulicher („Overthinking“) für Druckausgleich sorgt. Ihr Ziel erreicht die Gruppe auf diese Weise mit einer Selbstverständlichkeit, die uns schlussendlich sogar die einleitende Redewendung hinterfragen lässt: Selten hat ein neues Projekt sein Debüt so überzeugend dargeboten und dabei auch noch kinderleicht aussehen lassen.

NESTOR haben alle Infos zum Nachfolger ihres Debütalbums “Kids In A Ghost Town” verraten und einen dritten Song daraus geteilt: Die neue Platte heißt “Teenage Rebel” und erscheint am 31. Mai 2024. Den Titeltrack gibt es jetzt als Lyric-Clip bei YouTube.

Auch zur zweiten Single “Caroline” kann man sich einen Clip bei YouTube ansehen. Mit einem Video zu “Victorious” stellen die Schweden zudem einen weiteren Track aus “Teenage Rebel” vor.

Negative portrayals depict the humble snake as a cunning predator, embodying betrayal and corruption. From Eden’s tempter to the Norse Midgard Serpent, it symbolizes chaos, destruction, and the struggle against dark influences.

Conversely, Kundalini rising ignites the soul, empowering women by awakening intrinsic power and intuition. This coiled serpent at the spine’s base uncoils and ascends, symbolizing renewal and rebirth, channeling through every fiber to forge resilience and inner strength. Women, in this awakened state, reclaim their essence, dismantle societal confines, and embody an unyielding sense of self.

This dichotomy is the essence of the collaboration between Miss Trezz (“God’s Favorite Misfit”) and producer Shok. With Slither, Miss Trezz embraces individuality, challenging norms and exposing the corrosive effects of gossip and hurtful words, revealing hidden wounds.

The lyrics to Slither explore dominance and submission, past traumas, and the weight of external pressures. A predatory force, symbolized as a snake, tightens its grip, suffocating and betraying. Despite venomous attacks, the defiant misfit seeks to escape and reclaim autonomy.

The visual, an experimental Bauhaus aesthetic, amplifies the essence. Directed by Jacquelyn Trezzo and shot by Steven Rosales, the video features Miss Trezz as a serpent-like goddess in a dark lair, surrounded by captured prey. The crescendo shifts to a pulsating rave, where her metamorphosis unfolds amid vibrant lights and cascading water. The rave symbolizes shedding self-doubt and emerging liberated. Slither‘s powerful visuals convey her truth, urging listeners to confront hidden struggles and emerge stronger.

Catapulting from the austere sanctuaries of classical discipline and stepping boldly into the pulsating heart of modern electronica, Miss Trezz defies expectation. Her voice commands and electrifies, drawing comparisons to the stark energy of Phantogram and the kinetic intensity of Metric.

Reducing her to these influences alone, however, misses the point entirely. Her foundation in classical music is merely the beginning, as she seamlessly weaves through the somber depths of darkwave, the relentless pulse of industrial, and the entrancing beats of trip-hop. Just when a pattern seems to emerge, she disrupts it with a gothic pop inflection, an operatic flourish, a flirtation with jazz, or an audacious plunge into the frenetic realms of synthwave, electronica, and the fiercely unapologetic Nu Metal. Compulsion is a universal force, manifesting in relationships, substances, or dreams. Each offers exhilarating peaks but also harbours a darker side, potentially leading to despair. Relationships can elevate or become possessive; substances provide temporary euphoria but risk addiction; dreams inspire yet can blind us to the present. This duality in London post-punk act heavy wild’s new song, Machete Romance, explores the thrill and volatility of our deepest drives, capturing the human experience’s intense highs and lows.

This track is an expansive dive into the shadow side of shoegaze psychedelia, ebbing and flowing with the haunting intensity of goth-infused early 90s alternative rock.

 “Musically, we were going for an 80’s goth kinda vibe initially, but then it evolved as we went along and the sound became a bit bigger and more atmospheric, which was cool,” says vocalist Wolfgang Harte. “We wanted to keep that lo-fi warmth in the sound, but also wanted it to hit… it took some shaping, but we got there eventually.”

Drawing parallels to contemporaries like Cold Cave, the Horrors, and Traitrs, Machete Romance brims with wailing synths, jagged guitars, and drums that snap with precision. The vocal delivery oscillates between wistful melancholy and a raw, visceral edge, bringing a profound emotional depth.

Machete Romance pushes into darker, more intense territories than their recent works, signaling a bold evolution in their sound. Heavy wild continue to explore the vast possibilities within their musical landscape, grounding themselves in the familiar while venturing into thrilling new realms.

“The track is a cathartic howl exploring the torment and volatility of compulsion,” explains Harte. “I guess… universal in the sense that the feelings are true no matter what it is that compels you… relationships, substances, your dreams. They can all be equally as thrilling, equally as damaging.”

Harte’s reflection on the track underscores the delicate balance inherent in these compulsions. They are thrilling in their ability to make us feel intensely alive, yet damaging in their capacity to lead us into turmoil. Machete Romance embodies the highs and lows that come with being driven by something larger than oneself. It is this exploration of the human condition, in all its beauty and brutality.

The band recently played its busiest shows to date, supporting Humane The Moon at The Victoria and Dog Race and the Sebright Arms. They make a return the Sebright Arms on June 8th, supporting Isolated Youth. On July 26th they will play at The Shacklewell Arms, supporting Blood Club.

Die Melodic Metal-Band BLACK SUN meldet sich mit einem neuen Song zurück: “Drown In Sin” gibt es als Clip bei YouTube und ist ein Vorgeschmack auf das kommende, noch unbetitelte Studioalbum, das am 6. September 2024 erscheinen wird.

Auch die Single “Slay The Queen” kann man als Video bei YouTube sehen. Es ist der erste Track in neuer Besetzung, wie die ecuadorianisch-finnische Formation erklärt – neben Produzent und Gitarrist Nino Laurenne (THUNDERSTONE) ist auch Sängerin Netta Laurenne neu hinzugestoßen:

“Nachdem ich mit den Jungs als Produzent gearbeitet hatte, wurden wir richtig gute Freunde, was mich schließlich dazu brachte, Gitarrist in der Band zu werden. Der Beitritt zu Black Sun hat mich wirklich dazu gebracht, wieder in einer Band zu spielen, und ich kann es kaum erwarten, mit Santiago, Nicolas und Christopher auf die Bühne zu gehen. Und mit Netta am Gesang wird es der größte Tritt in den Hintern sein!”

Die Technical Death Metal-Band REPLACIRE hat nach dem Titeltrack und “A Fine Manipulation” mit “The Helix Unravels” einen dritten Track ihres kommenden Albums “The Center That Cannot Hold” veröffentlicht. Es ist nach “The Human Burden” (2012) und “Do Not Deviate” (2017) das dritte Album der US-Amerikaner aus Boston.

“The Center That Cannot Hold” wurde von Jens Bogren gemixt und gemastert und mit einem Cover-Artwork von Andrew Tremblay ausgestattet. Erscheinen wird das Album am 21. Juni 2024 via Season of Mist.

Requiem by Miss Misery

The band recently hit the Pacific coast with appearances at The Coffin Club, Funhouse, and Elbo Room Jack London, sharing stages with Dark Chisme, Ronnie Stone, Casa De Brujas, Ringfinger, Ceremony Shadows and Xibling. Their next landing is their home turf on 31 May at Chicago’s Electric Funeral, with Panic Priest.

The band is currently working on their debut album Sorrow’s Serenade.

Gitarrist und Songwriter GILLES ZEIMET (ex-ALIEN PITCH CAT) präsentiert eine neue Single seines Soloprojekts: “The King Is Dead” gibt es als Lyric-Video bei YouTube.

Der Track folgt auf das Musikvideo “Elysium”, das man sich ebenfalls bei YouTube in Bild und Ton ansehen kann. Den Gesang übernahm hierbei Raccoon 3eyes. Textlich handelt das Stück davon, angesichts einer hierarchischen Gesellschaft und der Unterdrückung der Menschen “mit einer Mischung aus Revolution und Resignation umzugehen”.

“Elysium” und “The King Is Dead” sind dem neuen Studioalbum “Suicide Pact Of Gods” entnommen, das am 24. Mai 2024 erschienen ist.

Mit “Killing For Revenge” legen SIX FEET UNDER, die als Cannibal Corpse-Side Project begannen ihr bereits 18. Album vor.
Beim Vorgänger „Nightmares Of The Decomposed“ überschlugen sich ja die Hater vor Freude, dass die Amis (mal „wieder“) ihr schlechtestes Album herausgebracht hätten.
Zu der Zeit habe ich auch meine Gedanken zum Hate bezüglich Sänger Chris Barnes geteilt. Den Link gebe ich euch hier, damit wir das jetzt nicht durchkauen müssen.
Um die Jahrtausendwende war für mich ihr Höhepunkt und Alben wie „Maximum Violence“ und „True Carnage“ (für mich gesanglich immer noch seine beste Leistung EVER!) liefen bei mir rauf und runter. Die beiden Vorgänger sind zudem auch wirklich großartig.
Danach gab es im Bandgefüge und auch musikalisch immer wieder Änderungen.
Seit 2017 ist Jack Owen (auch Gründungsmitglied von Cannibal Corpse) wieder mit Chris Barnes vereint und dies ist ihr zweites gemeinsames
SIX FEET UNDER Album.
Die 3 Vorabsingles (unten mit Video) gaben mir Hoffnung, dass wir ein besseres Album als den Vorgänger erhalten könnten und dieses Gefühl war richtig, auch wenn ich „Nightmares Of The Decomposed“ nie als so abgrundtief bezeichnen würde, wie es viele im Netzt taten. Worauf dieser Barnes-Hate beruht habe ich bis jetzt nicht ganz verstanden und wer mich aufklären möchte darf mir unter
hendrik@amboss-mag.de gerne schreiben.
Das EEEEEEHHHHHHHHHH-Trademark scheint Geschichte zu sein, auch wenn ich bei „Compulsive“ noch eine Andeutung wahrnehmen konnte.
Die Vocals waren auf dem letzten Alben wirklich keine Glanzleistung (auch wenn Chris behauptet, dass sie genau so klingen sollten), aber Songs wie das eben schon genannte „Compulsive“ und auch „When The Moon Goes Down In Blood“, „Spoils Of War“ und „Fit Of Carnage“ lassen mich wieder hoffen.
Auch musikalisch gefallen mir diese Songs wirklich gut. Wenn das nächste Album komplett auf dieser Schiene passiert, könnte das sogar n Knaller werden. Songs wie „Neanderthal“, (obwohl das Riff ab 1:35min mich echt umhauen kann) oder „Hostility Against Mankind“ könnten für mich eher weggelassen werden. Grade im letztgenannten fällt mir auf, dass der Sound, der ansonsten nicht viel Grund zum Meckern gibt, einfach nicht für alle Songs passend ist. Das Cover ist übrigens das erste von Vincent Locke, der alle Cannibal Corpse Cover gestaltet hat, für SIX FEET UNDER und auch dieses scheint mit Wassermalfarben entstanden zu sein. (hendrik)

„In Chambers Of Sonic Disgust“ is das erste neue Album von ILLDISPOSED seit 2019. Zweifelsohne ungewöhnlich, dass zwischen den Alben der Band eine solche Lücke entstanden ist, aber diverse Ereignisse haben dazu beigetragen. Zuerst hatte die COVID-19-Pandemie erhebliche Auswirkungen auf die Musikindustrie und zwang die Band, sich für eine Weile auf andere Dinge zu konzentrieren. Dann wurde beim Gitarristen Rasmus Henriksen ein Hirntumor diagnostiziert. Rasmus hat die Band inzwischen verlassen, um sich zu 100% auf die Behandlung zu konzentrieren. In seine Fußstapfen ist ILLDISPOSEDs ehemaliger Gitarrist Ken Holst getreten. Nun melden sich ILLDISPOSED also endlich zurück, um der Welt zu zeigen, wie diese von Krisen und Anstrengungen gezeichneten Jahre in Musik umgewandelt wurden. „In Chambers Of Sonic Disgust“ ist voller Wut und Frustration und das ehrgeizigste und kreativste ILLDISPOSED-Album aller Zeiten!

Die Metalcore / Post Hardcore-Band THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA hat den Song “Reasons” mit Sängerin LØLØ in einer neuen Version veröffentlicht. Ursprünglich erschien der Track als Kollaboration mit den Dubstep-Künstlern Excision und Wooli.

Erst im März hatten die US-Amerikaner mit “Ritual” einen neuen Song veröffentlicht. Jane’s Addiction and Love and Rockets are joining forces for a co-headlining 2024 North American tour. The two legendary alt-rock groups will embark on a 23-city trek starting in early August.

Love and Rockets, named after the Hernandez brothers’ iconic underground comic, dropped seven records over thirteen years. They burst onto the scene with their distinct take on the Temptations’ Ball of Confusion. This debut set the stage for their influential career, which spanned fourteen years and seven albums. After a 15-year hiatus, Love and Rockets re-formed in 2023 for a series of shows. Despite singer-guitarist Daniel Ash declaring those UK dates as their last, the band is ready to hit the road again.

Jane’s Addiction, formed in 1985, has been a trailblazer in alternative music and culture, blending genre-defying hits with a cinematic live experience. The lineup features the dynamic Perry Farrell on vocals, guitar virtuoso Dave Navarro, powerhouse drummer Stephen Perkins, and the rhythmic pulse of bassist Eric Avery. Their initial farewell tour in 1991 famously launched Lollapalooza, now the ultimate alternative rock festival.

This tour marks the first stateside run in 14 years with Jane’s Addiction’s classic lineup. Navarro recently rejoined the band in London after a lengthy battle with long COVID, while Avery returned to the fold in 2022 after over a decade apart.

The tour begins August 9th in Las Vegas and concludes with a September 29th gig at the Evolution Festival in St. Louis. Along the way, the bands will hit cities like Los Angeles, New Orleans, New York, Boston, and Chicago, among others.

Los Angeles rock quartet Love Fiend has released their electrifying new single, Vacant Love, a tune that channels the infectious catchiness of early 80s power pop. With a commanding bass line propelling the track, it effortlessly whisks listeners to the core of classic rock radio. Love Fiend’s music exudes an electrifying, joyful energy, delving into timeless themes of love lost and won. Their sound is a harmonious fusion of guitars, synthesizers, and saxophones.

Love Fiend’s simple, yet powerful lyricism paired with the melodic, synth-drenched rock ‘n’ roll is aptly categorized by John Peter Dwyer as “leaning fast forward into the reverse-future.” Imagine plugging Wreckless Eric, the Soft Boys, and Magazine into a 21st-century power grid. Their approach is like a high-voltage cable, buzzing with energy that’s both retro and shockingly new. It’s rock ‘n’ roll for the digital age, charged with an unmistakable modern pulse.

The band continues, “Some of us come into this world and only catch a glimpse of it, or hear a subtle murmur. They pay it no mind. But some of us, once we peak through that keyhole, spend the rest of our lives searching endlessly for that electrifying sensation, that POWER AND ENERGY! Vacant love is about that void, that empty black hole in the deepest recesses of our hearts, that longs to be illuminated –  to be ZAPPED!”

The single is accompanied by a hilarious music video directed by Taylor Thompson, which centers on a power-hungry lady perpetually searching for that perfect jolt. It’s a high-voltage tale of electrifying desires and currents of emotion, where every spark ignites a quest for the ultimate charge. Thompson’s direction captures the energy of a woman wired for adventure, always on the lookout for that next electric thrill.

The music video for “Vacant Love” is certainly electrifying. Can share some insight into the concept and creative process behind the video?

We used a lot of film references, like Repo Man, early Terminator, and 12 Monkeys for inspiration. The original idea was basically a person who was constantly searching for a bigger and bigger charge or spark of electricity. But we handed that concept to director Taylor Thompson and DP Kuba Bojsza, who make incredible character-focused films, and the end product is a result of their imaginations.

You mentioned a deep desire for “pure raw electrical current.” Can you elaborate on what this means to you and how it influenced the track’s energy and vibe?

That was just some goofy ad copy. We are learning how to sell our music – HA!! The song is sort of about the hollowness of seeking approval from the masses, a pretty universal feeling in LA, from what we’ve gathered at least.

In what ways do you feel “Handle With Care” represents the current state of Love Fiend as a band?

The record was an effort to make songs that are concise, catchy, upbeat and package it nicely, bow and all. It’s less experimental that other stuff we’ve done. We wanted to make a back to basics rock and roll album, something that our 10 year old selves would have liked. We did our best!!!

As soon as we arrived, we were able to watch the omnipresent Dr Mark Benecke during one of his interviews for television. As on every Friday of the WGT, the Agra grounds slowly but steadily filled up. For most visitors, it was the day of arrival and the campground was already well filled. Next door in the Pagan Village (Heidnisches Dorf) it was still quiet, probably due to the recent rain shower. As always, there were plenty of exhibitors offering crafts, accessories, food and drink. There were also various activities for the WGT offspring.

Die Metalcore-Band HARM’S WAY kehrt im Juni und Juli 2024 zum ersten Mal seit fünf Jahren nach Europa zurück und wird neben einigen Festival-Shows auch eine Reihe von Club-Konzerten spielen. In Deutschland stehen dabei Termine in Braunschweig, München, Osnabrück, Köln, Saarbrücken, Hamburg und Berlin auf dem Plan.

Die Gitarren klirren, die Vocals speien Gift und Galle – dennoch ist nicht alles, wie es war. Was genau sich im Hause FARSOT in den letzten Jahren getan hat, erschließt sich aber erst nach und nach. Dabei sind die unterschwellig rockigen Töne schon im Opener „Nausea“ zu erkennen, werden aber von den furiosen Blastbeats des folgenden „Buyoant Flames“ alsbald wieder zur Seite gewischt. Hier spielt die Formation ungezügelte Aggression gegen einen in sich gekehrten Refrain aus, wo zögerlicher Klargesang und Akustikgitarre kein größeres Gegengewicht stellen könnten.

Weshalb die Band ausgerechnet den Grunge als richtungsweisenden Einfluss für „Life Promised Death“ nennt, erfahren wir immer dann, wenn wir besonders gut hinhören. Nicht mit dem Vorschlaghammer, sondern wesentlich subtiler weben FARSOT derlei Anleihen in ihr Black-Metal-Fundament ein, das sich in letzter Konsequenz eben nicht mehr hundertprozentig in seinem ehemaligen Genre zu Hause fühlt.

FARSOT zeigen sich auf “Life Promised Death” wandelbar und alles andere als konservativ
Erinnert „Stray Dogs“ zu Beginn noch an DARK FORTRESS, bis das Quintett plötzlich die Bremsen zieht, um eine harte Kurskorrektur vorzunehmen – getragen und dabei tatsächlich mit 90er Rock-Spirit entwickelt sich das Stück in eine komplett unerwartete Richtung. Die phasenweise völlige Abkehr vom Schwarzmetallischen vollzog zuvor bereits „Into Vertigo“, das sich im zweiten Drittel öffnet und dabei sogar ein wenig Jam-Charakter versprüht. Ähnliche Risiken wagt die Band auch im weiteren Verlauf, wodurch ein wandelbares Stück wie „Chimera“ tatsächlich immer wieder mit neuen Wendungen überrascht.

Im Gegenzug kommt dem sonst lohnenden „Life Promised Death“ gelegentlich der Zug abhanden: So frisch sich die stilfremden Einflüsse eingliedern, bleibt die Wirkung letztlich etwas gedämpft. Als würden uns FARSOT bewusst nach unten ziehen wollen, wo es mit den feinfühligen Gitarren in „Descent“ durchaus schöne Augenblicke gibt, aber die herbeigesehnte Katharsis letzten Endes unerfüllt bleiben muss. Das ist womöglich Teil des inhaltlichen Konzepts oder aber dem Umstand geschuldet, dass wir hier eine Band im Umbruch erleben, die in ihrem Repertoire eben nicht mehr nur klirrende Gitarren und giftige Vocals zählt, sondern völlig zu Recht nach mehr strebt.
