Neue Musik von NILE: Die Death Metal-Veteranen haben mit “The Underworld Awaits Us All” ihr zehntes Studioalbum angekündigt. Eine Hörprobe gibt es vorab mit der Single “Chapter for Not Being Hung Upside Down on a Stake in the Underworld and Made to Eat Feces by the Four Apes” als Videoclip bei YouTube.

Aufgenommen und produziert wurde die Platte in Frontmann Karl Sanders’ eigenen Serpent Headed Studios, Mix und Mastering hingegen übernahm Mark Lewis. Selbiger erklärt zu “Chapter For Not Being Hung Upside Down”:

“’Chapter for not being Hung Upside Down’ is one of our favorite tracks on the new record. It’s a lot of fun to play, challenging and unpredictable, but with an infectiously brutal, unrestrained vibe that I am very certain will be a blast in the mosh pit during live shows.

We are super happy to be working with Tom Flynn for the video for this song – he is a visionary with insanely creative ideas and a really cool guy to work with. Very excited for people to see what he has been cooking up with this video.”

Emily Eichelberger and her husband, John Pyle, are the passionate duo behind Indigo Ranch, hailing from Philadelphia. Their sound recalls the C86-era pop music, lovingly wrapped in a comforting wall of hiss. Emily and John have dipped their toes into various musical pools, including Oaken Tower, Pleasure Island, Paradise Gardens, and Louie Louie. John also moonlights as the mastermind behind the underground cult industrial and noise label Beyond The Ruins.

The couple’s previous musical endeavor, Paradise Gardens, gracefully evolved into Indigo Ranch. Their first release, Love or Perish, fluttered through underground circles. Now, with a drumroll and a bit of fanfare, they announce their newest LP, Hard Gloss, available now via Happy Families.

Hard Gloss is a delightful blend of mid-tempo post-punk and dream pop, seamlessly melding 80s influences with fresh visions. The album is punctuated by industrial synth-scapes that firmly establish the band’s character and mood.

Emily Eichelberger’s voice, with a folk-driven drawl swaddled in tape crackles and echo, reaches out to pull you track by track into the rain. John Pyle, the band’s bassist and part-time programming wizard, also took on the role of engineer. The recording is lush with noise and tape saturation, featuring thudding high-gain rhythm machines, crackling guitars, and looping hypnotic bass lines. The songwriting comfortably nestles itself alongside Bauhaus, Pixies, Ladytron and The Dandy Warhols. It’s an experience that feels like a warm, fuzzy blanket, perfect for those dreary days when only music will do.

The album kicks off with Intro, an instrumental piece that feels like a cosmic wink, reminding us that we might not be the only ones out there in the vast expanse. This smoothly transitions into Spectre, painting a picture of a bleak and disorienting world where the natural and unnatural intermingle. It evokes a sense of enduring hardship, with water filling gaps and a persistent flood line. Themes of destruction and lost intentions run through it, taking us on a trip through hell and back, leaving us a bit unsatisfied but with clarity. Mementos are returned, symbolizing the closure of a troubled past. Hold On To The Dot emphasizes those fleeting moments, fighting for precious time, and making an effort even when it feels late. There’s a struggle between authenticity and faking it, but the effort is always worthwhile.

Antechamber paints a vivid picture of the pain of letting go and the challenge of moving on from a past relationship. Imagine a rolling tide of doubt crashing against a formidable wall of uncertainty—quite the emotional storm. Amidst numerous signs and dashed hopes, there’s a valiant effort to sift through the debris, salvaging whatever might be left, all while repeatedly telling the other to kindly vacate the premises of the heart.

Meanwhile, Mylar Heat delves into a consuming, cyclical pain, akin to sipping a cocktail of mylar heat with a chaser of car crash aftermath. It’s the kind of chaos you can’t help but be drawn to, like watching a soap opera you know is bad for you. Amidst the perpetual turmoil, the “theater of pain” questions whether words still hold any weight, as the drama plays out endlessly on life’s grand stage.

Atrophia delves into the trials of unfairness and loss, where a cool wind whispers of inevitable change and hardship. Damage control becomes the mind’s go-to escape plan, as it wrestles with the art of letting go and moving forward. Stubbornness and suspended thoughts mirror the challenge of coping without fishing for sympathy, while everything around begins to wither.

Moorish Rose paints a vivid scene of departure and self-discovery. Picture someone leaving keys on the table and a light on, stepping out into the night with a sense of empowerment to seek what’s right. The recurring act of blowing out the candlelight marks the end of one chapter and the exciting start of another.

Silk delves into themes of uncertainty and inner turmoil. The lyrics paint a picture of the mind’s descent into chaos, like a tea party gone terribly wrong, feeling both overwhelmed and resigned. Memories and their value are questioned, as everything seems to lose its worth once it’s gone. The image of sitting silently, giving out, captures a blend of defeat and vulnerability, akin to a soggy biscuit left too long in tea.

On the flip side, Mezzotint wrestles with ungratefulness and rejection, narrating a tale that tugs at the heartstrings. Amidst the pain, there’s a celebration of one’s art and emotions, like finding a rainbow in a rainstorm. The repetition underscores the ungrateful nature of the other, but also highlights a spirited confrontation and a resilience that’s nothing short of inspiring.

A struggle with inner demons and weakness is depicted in Almost Transparent Blue, urging a search for truth amid darkness. The recurring troubles and silence highlight a fight against the past. The devil symbolizes the core of these battles, stressing the need to confront and overcome personal challenges for eternity. Another instrumental, Outro, closes the album.

Jeff Zeigler, known for his work with Nothing, Mary Lattimore, Kurt Vile, War on Drugs, and Allison Crutchfield, handled the mixing, making everything sound just right. Mikey Young of Total Control fame put the final polish on it with his mastering magic.

Die finnische Doom/Death Metal Band GRAIN OF PAIN hat ihr Debüt-Album „The Moon Lights The Way“ über Noble Demon veröffentlicht. Um den Tag gebührend zu feiern, haben GRAIN OF PAIN ebenfalls ein neues Musikvideo zu ihrer aktuellen Single „Beneath“ veröffentlicht. Die Heavy / Stoner Rock-Band GREENLEAF hat ihr neues Album “The Head & The Habit” für 26. Juni 2024 angekündigt. Zur dritten Single “Different Horses” hat die Gruppe nun ein Musikvideo mit Voiceovers im Mockumentary-Stil veröffentlicht.

Die Symphonic Power Metal-Band RHAPSODY OF FIRE präsentiert ihr neues Album “Challenge The Wind” nach einem Video zum Titeltrack bei YouTube und einem Video-Clip zu “Diamond Claws” nun auch mit dem Lyric-Video “Mastered By The Dark” bei YouTube. „Im Unterschied zu allen früheren Rhapsody Of Fire-Scheiben hat das aktuelle Album ausschließlich schnelle Songs und keine einzige Ballade, So viel Metal wie auf ‚Challenge The Wind‘ gab es bei uns noch nie!“

Den Song “Kreel’s Magic Staff” stellte man schon im Frühjahr 2023 mit einem Lyric-Video bei YouTube vor. Es handelt sich dabei um den ersten neuen Track seit dem Studioalbum “Glory For Salvation” (2021).

Die Dream Pop / Shoegaze-Band GARLANDS hat nach dem Video-Clip zu “Polar Zones” den eröffnenden Titeltrack ihres kommenden Albums “Turn The Sky” veröffentlicht. Es ist das erste Album des deutschen Duos, welches aus Catharina Rüß und Sui Kemmer besteht. Das Debütalbum setzt sich dabei aus den beiden EPs “Turn The Sky” und “Condor” zusammen und wird am 14. Juni 2024 erscheinen.

“Sui und ich sind fasziniert von der Astrophysik. Das spiegelt sich auch in unseren Liedern wider, in denen sich das Universum mal als Ort der Sehnsucht und mal als Reich der dunklen Mächte erweist”, sagt Catharina Rüß.

Es soll härter sein, als die Vorgänger-Alben “Aphélion” oder “Pitfalls“: LEPROUS veröffentlichen im Sommer ihr achtes Studioalbum “Melodies Of Atonement”:

“Wie jede Band haben wir das Gefühl, dass es unser bislang bestes Album geworden ist. Aber es stimmt tatsächlich! Die orchestralen Elemente sind weg, das gibt jedem einzelnen Bandmitglied mehr Raum. Es geht direkt zur Sache und ist härter als das, was wir in letzter Zeit gemacht haben… Ein frischer Sound, aber gleichzeitig noch immer LEPROUS.”

“Melodies Of Atonement” entstand in Zusammenarbeit mit David Castillo im Ghost Ward Studio in Schweden. Adam Noble übernahm den Mix, Robin Schmidt das Mastering. Das Cover des Albums ist ein Foto von John Dolan, die Gestaltung kommt von Ritxi Ostáriz.

Zur ersten Single haben die Norweger zusammen mit Regisseur Dariusz Szermanowicz ein Musikvideo gedreht: “Atonement” bei YouTube (ab 16:00 Uhr). Den Audiostream gibt es schon jetzt bei YouTube. Die musikalische Ausrichtung des Preview-Tracks kommentiert Sänger Einar Solberg:

„‚Atonement‘ ist eine andere Art von Single als das, was wir bisher gemacht haben. Sie ist hart, eingängig und kommt direkt auf den Punkt. Es ist ein Song, von dem wir glauben, dass er alte und neue Fans vereint, während er gleichzeitig einen frischen und neuen Sound hat… Das ist der Sound von LEPROUS im Jahr 2024.“

She Her Sir, a queer Cajun multimedia artist and musician, drifts between the streets of New Orleans and the vast cityscape of Los Angeles. They are the creative force behind She Her Sir, one half of the dark-wave duo You Can Call Me Sir, and the bassist for LA’s punk staple, Agender. Their distinct electro, post-punk sound delves into themes of consent, power dynamics, and self-discovery. She Her Sir offers a raw and unapologetic reawakening of self.

Now, they have released their haunting self-titled debut EP, She Her Sir, exploring themes of love, community, and the path from pain to healing.

“This project is very personal to me,” they say. “After being ostracized post-divorce and feeling abandoned by my community, like I was left for dead, I was suicidal and desperate. With the support of loved ones and my punk band in LA, I rebuilt my life and reclaimed my narrative. I hope this EP resonates with anyone who listens and offers a glimpse of hope when facing darkness.”

The EP intricately explores the complex dynamics of erasure and the empowering act of reclaiming one’s agency in the face of societal neglect. Sir’s soundscape masterfully blends melancholic and hopeful tones, providing a powerful reminder that light and recovery can emerge from darkness. After all, we all want to feel better. With she her sir, Sir revisits their origins and boldly reinvents them with a mesmerizing blend of music, memory, metaphor, and identity.

The album opens with the reverent buzz synth of I Begin, a hymn of soul reclamation with angelic vocals floating over a gentle groove of synths.

Howling is a vivid dream of intense sensuality. The song, wrapped in fervent emotion, retraces Michel’s personal voyage back to their Southern roots, celebrating the rich essence of New Orleans and its lively queer artistic community. Howling beautifully blends a tender love song with a tender lullaby to fleeting memories. This piece marks the beginning of their new path of self-discovery and insight. A stirring homage to Sir’s New Orleans roots and the city’s subversive queer arts scene, the video for “Howling” was recently screened at the NOVAC Music Video Showcase in New Orleans.

Finally, We All Want To Feel Better pleads for a fresh start, a day with less pain in our lives, so we can be our best selves going forward. The song is a heartfelt appeal, a wish for a future where the burdens of yesterday are lifted, allowing us to step into tomorrow with hope and renewed strength. It’s a gentle reminder that even in our darkest moments, the desire for better days is a universal thread that binds us all.

In Zusammenarbeit mit Spieleentwickler Supercell haben DRAGONFORCE einen neuen Promo-Song veröffentlicht: “A Draco Tale” gibt es als Clip bei YouTube und handelt von der Spielfigur Draco, einem neu veröffentlichten Charakter für das Fighting-Game “Brawl Stars”. Gitarrist Herman Li erzählt, wie es zur Auftragsarbeit kam:

„Brawl Stars ist ein hektisches, schnelles Spiel, das ich in meiner Freizeit gerne spiele. Als die Entwickler uns baten, einen neuen Song über einen Heavy-Metal-begeisterten Charakter aufzunehmen, haben wir die Chance sofort ergriffen. Ich denke, die Fans von Brawl Stars werden diesen neuen Legendary Brawler lieben.“

Erst im März 2024 veröffentlichten DRAGONFORCE ihr aktuelles Album “Warp Speed Warriors” via Napalm Records.

“Blood Soaked Death Dream” ist der Titel der neuen Single aus dem Hause VOMIT FORTH. Die Brutal Death Metal-Band hat zum Stück auch ein Musikvideo gedreht. Den Hintergrund des Stücks kommentiert die Gruppe wie folgt:

In ‚Blood Soaked Death Dream‘ geht es darum, dass wir Menschen von Natur aus fast schon parasitär und selbsthassend sind. Wir sehen andere Menschen als Möglichkeiten, die wir für uns nutzen können, aber wenn sie das mit uns machen, werden wir wütend. Es ist eine Art Spaziergang durch die spirituelle Reise und wie wir uns wünschen, nicht so zu sein, aber wir sind so und deshalb haben wir das Verlangen, uns selbst und alle um uns herum zu zerstören. In einem blutgetränkten Todestraum“.

In the ever-evolving landscape of post-punk and gothic rock, Clan of Xymox has been a constant presence for four decades. Originally hailing from the Netherlands, the band, fronted by the enigmatic Ronny Moorings, solidified their place in the darkwave pantheon with their 1985 self-titled debut album, which was released by the esteemed independent label 4AD. Clan of Xymox’s music, a fusion of synth-driven melancholy and haunting atmospheres, captivated a loyal fanbase. Albums such as Medusa and Twist of Shadows emerged as essential albums for those with affinities for lovelorn anthems adrift in darkness and yearning.

Time, that relentless river, has seen members come and go, yet the Clan of Xymox remains ever-evolving, their core essence undiminished. Their latest offering, the EP X-Odus, is but a harbinger of the forthcoming album Exodus. This new single and title track from the EP X-Odus, has been reimagined by the likes of TRAITRS, The Bellwether Syndicate, Principe Valiente, and others, each remix adding a new shade to the band’s dark palette.

The music video for X-Odus, crafted by Zoe Kavanagh, thrusts us into a frenetic, dystopian future. Amidst towering skyscrapers and neon-lit alleyways, martial artists engage in a mesmerizing dance of combat. Stunt performers Jennifer Kilmurray, Phillip Condron, Bianca Castilho, and Daire McMahon exude lethal grace, showcasing remarkable agility and intensity. As they traverse rooftops and hidden pathways, the city’s eerie glow casts long shadows, creating a visual symphony that harmonizes with the song’s relentless beat.
