Erwarte das Unerwartete: Dass PALEDUSK der Ruf einer musikgewordenen Wundertüte vorauseilt, kommt nicht von ungefähr. Dabei scheint es völlig einerlei, welches Attribut wir den Japanern nun zuschreiben – modern, progressiv, alternativ, catchy -, zutreffen wird wohl ein jedes im Verlauf der kunterbunten Diskografie, die mittlerweile eine ganze Reihe EPs, aber noch kein einziges Studioalbum umfasst.

Das Kurzformat bietet sich für die Experimentierfreude der Band geradezu an, die auch gerne mal altes Material erneut durch den Fleischwolf dreht. So erfahren mit „NO!“ sowie „Q2“ diesmal auch zwei ältere Tracks eine Frischzellenkur, die nun mit mächtigerem Sound daherkommt, die vergleichsweise geradlinigen Strukturen allerdings unangetastet lässt. Das schafft durch den kompromisslosen Metalcore-Einschlag des Ersteren immerhin Variation, die „PALEHELL“ von der ersten bis zur letzten Sekunde zu einer kleinen Entdeckungsreise macht.

PALEDUSK sind eine musikgewordene Wundertüte
Tatsächlich bieten die 21 Minuten der EP so viele Eindrücke, dass wir zwischen knackiger Breakdowns, wahnwitziger Synthesizer und belebender Singalongs den gefühlten Gegenwert eines vollwertigen Albums erhalten. Selbst ein Song-Remake wie „SUPER PALE HORSE“, das Versatzstücke des Bandklassikers „Pale Horse“ durch den Turbocharger jagt, wirkt dadurch wie ein komplett neues Abenteuer.

Die Gute-Laune-Vibes des (punk)rockigen Titeltracks treffen auf die hektische Verbissenheit des kompakten „TRANQUILO!“, bei dem PALEDUSK durch zahlreiche Breaks und Samples munter Chaos stiften. Genau diese Reizüberflutung ist es jedoch, die hier und im folgenden „RUMBLE“ das wahnsinnige Konzept der Formation so einzigartig macht. Spätestens wenn Saxofon und Lounge-Piano von 8bit-Sounds und einer catchy Melodielinie im PERIPHERY-Stil abgelöst werden, können wir ein Grinsen nicht mehr zurückhalten. Irgendwie schaffen es PALEDUSK wohl immer noch, uns zu überraschen – und selbst das kommt angesichts unserer Ausgangshaltung völlig unerwartet.

The debate about balancing our roles in the workplace with our personal lives prompts us to consider the boundaries and tensions between conforming to societal norms and embracing our true selves. The key is finding a balance that allows for authenticity and self-acceptance in spite of the expectations and dynamics of the environments we encounter.

This is the theme behind the short art-film Ascend All Night, scored by Swedish-Spanish composer Victor Moreno. Renowned for his innovative compositions and work with Rio Noir, Moreno collaborates with sound engineer Rupert Clervaux for this project.

Ascend All Night delves into the search for solace amid modern life’s relentless pressures. This evocative seven-minute film contemplates self-discovery against the backdrop of societal success. Success, as depicted, is about remaining true to oneself—embracing passions and genuine fulfillment.

The film acknowledges the struggle of disconnection, mirroring the moon’s cycles. In an age of social media façades, it follows an ordinary man through his monotonous routine. After a draining day, a solitary dinner, and a scalding shower, he embarks on a transformative journey, seeking to reclaim his identity.

The evocative score, integral to the film’s essence, intensifies through a crescendo of textures—piano, violins, synthesizers, and a melodious Spanish acoustic guitar. Reminiscent of Nick Cave and Warren Ellis or Thom Yorke, Moreno’s composition intertwines synth and acoustic riffs, echoing a Vangelis on Spanish guitar or a slow-core Scott Walker.

Ascend All Night transcends conventional filmmaking, weaving the essence of a music video into its experimental fabric. Premiering globally at The Seattle Film Festival 2024, this avant-garde short earned a nomination for Best Soundtrack in a Short Film. Set for the film festival circuit from fall 2024 to 2025, it is already making waves, with selections for the San Diego Indie Film Festival in La Jolla and the Luleå Film Festival in northern Sweden, just below the Arctic Circle.

Moreno honed his craft at the Swedish Center of Electroacoustic Music and Sound Art (EMS). Here, he collaborated with luminaries like Oliver Ackermann of A Place to Bury Strangers, German photographer and artist Wolfgang Tillmans, and sound engineer Rupert Clervaux, renowned for his work with Spacemen 3, Spiritualized, and Beatrice Dillon, among others. This period was pivotal in shaping Moreno’s innovative approach to sound and composition.

Auch 2024 geht ROCK AM HÄRTSFELDSEE in eine neue Runde: Das Festival findet am 28. und 29. Juni 2024 am namengebenden Härtsfeldsee in 89561 Dischingen statt.

Das Event ist mittlerweile ausverkauft. Wochenendtickets gab es zum Preis von 95,-€ über den offiziellen Festival-Shop. Camping und Parken sind bereits mit inbegriffen. Ein limitiertes Kontingent an Tagestickets ist ab 15. März 2024 (9:00 Uhr) verfügbar.

Mit WARKINGS haben die Veranstalter Mitte März den letzten noch ausstehenden Act bekannt gegeben. Zum Heiligabend gab es mit HAMMER KING eine weitere Neubestätigung. Zuvor enthüllten die Organisatoren mit IN EXTREMO den zweiten Headliner. Den ersten Haupt-Act für die 2024er Auflage gab man Ende Oktober 2023 bekannt: BLIND GUARDIAN führen das Billing an und werden zum zweiten Mal auf dem Festival auftreten. Darüber hinaus sind FACING FEARS, BONDED, THE NEW ROSES, GRAVE DIGGER, GOTHMINISTER, APRIL ART und LEGION OF THE DAMNED mit dabei.

Die Melodic Death / Thrash Metal-Band THUS hat mit “Graveyard of Empires” einen weiteren Video-Clip ihrer neuen EP “The Terminal Condition of Existence” veröffentlicht. Zuvor hat die Band nach “Pacify the Parasite” mit “Incorporeal” einen weiteren Video-Clip veröffentlicht. Die Single erforscht das Gefühl der Unantastbarkeit und den Kampf, in einer turbulenten Welt etwas zu bewirken.

Es ist der erste Release des dänischen Trios, welches aus Gitarrist und Sänger Frederik Jensen (PLAINED, Ex-9000 JOHN DOE), Gitarrist Tobias Hornstrup (POLARS COLLIDE) sowie Bassist Sebastian Skousgaard (CHRONICLE) besteht. Als Session-Drummer half Sebastian Lanser (OBSIDIOUS, Ex-OBSCURA) aus.

“The Terminal Condition of Existence” wurde von Andreas Linnemann (u.a. für BAEST tätig) im Hop House Studio gemixt und gemastert und ist am 24. Mai 2024 erschienen.

KANONENFIEBER haben einen Plattenvertrag mit Century Media abgeschlossen. Die erste gemeinsame Veröffentlichung wird das Studioalbum “Die Urkatastrophe” sein, welches am 20. September 2024 über das neue Label erscheinen wird.

Einen Höreindruck bietet schon jetzt das Lyric-Video “Menschenmühle” bei YouTube. Mastermind Noise erklärt zum Album:

„Der Erste Weltkrieg beschleunigte den Weg in die Moderne und gilt als ‚Die Urkatastrophe‘ des 20. Jahrhunderts, das von Kriegen, Gewalt und Vertreibung geprägt war. Rund 17 Millionen Menschen, Soldaten und Zivilisten, verloren ihr Leben, große Teile Europas wurden zerstört und ungelöste Probleme blieben zurück, die zu weiteren gewaltsamen Konflikten führten. Dieses Album ist den Opfern des Ersten Weltkriegs gewidmet, damit sie nicht vergessen werden. Mögen ihre Schicksale auch nach mehr als 100 Jahren noch eine Mahnung für alle nachfolgenden Generationen sein.”

“Die Urkatastrophe” wurde mit Produzent Kristian Kohle aufgenommen und enthält im Song “Waffenbrüder” ein Feature von HEAVEN SHALL BURN-Gitarrist Maik Weichert.

Die Alternative Rock-Band BIRD’S VIEW hat einen Clip zur Single “Vienna” online gestellt. Das Stück kommentiert die Formation:

“Vienna beschreibt den Fluch und den Segen die ganze Zeit erreichbar und connected zu sein. Der Song ist während 2 Off Days in Wien zwischen 2 Support Touren entstanden. Es geht hauptsächlich darum, die ganze Zeit erreichbar und greifbar sein zu müssen. Die 2 Tage in Wien war die erste Zeit, wo wir wirklich alles komplett abgeschaltet haben und Abstand von allem gewinnen konnten in dem wir einfach alles ignoriert haben.”

Zuvor veröffentlichte man bereits ein Video zum Song “Come Back Home” bei YouTube. Der Track stammt vom zweiten Studioalbum “House Of Commando”, das von Howie Weinberg gemastert wurde.

Die Death Metal-Band TROG hat mit “The Void” ein Lyric-Video von ihrem kommenden Album “Horrors Beyond” veröffentlicht.

“Der Song ist inspiriert von einer alten buddhistischen Meditationspraxis des Tögal, die bei den diszipliniertesten Praktizierenden nach dem Tod zum Zustand des „Regenbogenlichtkörpers“ führt”, erklärt die Band.

“Horrors Beyond” ist das erste Album der US-Amerikaner aus New Jersey, die davor zwei EPs veröffentlicht hatten. Produziert wurde das Album von Drummer Hudson Barth, während Colin Marston für das Mastering verantwortlich zeichnet. Das Cover-Artwork stammt von Emile Roy. Release-Termin ist der 28. Juni 2024.

Vorab gibt es mit “Ritual Corpse Division” ein weiteres Lyric-Video.

“In diesem Lied geht es um die Durchführung eines Seelenersatzrituals, bei dem die lebende Person chirurgisch abgetrennt und entlang präziser Energiepunkte am Körper aufgeschnitten wird. Die intakte Seele wird dann aus den Wunden herausgelockt, geerntet und auf eine andere Bewusstseinsebene verlegt”, erzählt die Band.

Following the project’s debut last November with the brilliant single and EP “My Cathedral,” a haunting lament about grief and isolation that captivated listeners with its dark, atmospheric sound and hauntingly beautiful vocals, Stare Away is now stirring the waters with the release of their new EP, “I Dream of Nothing,” which is out now.

Hailing now from the ever-alive streets of Brooklyn, NYC, Stare Away, the solo project of musician Ben Nelson, elegantly pirouettes between the anarchic spirit of classic post-punk and the elusive rhythms of electronic music. Its sound, a concoction that’s both a trip down memory lane and a peek into tomorrow, reverberates with the haunted whispers of the late 70s and 80s. Drawing inspiration from the old-school enchantment of artists such as The Sound, Lowlife, The Teardrop Explodes, and The Cure, Stare Away crafts a soundscape that is at once reminiscent and revolutionary. A date we all dark people are longing for each year! Near the end of July, Cologne and Tanzbrunnen venues by Rhein river will once again be painted black and host a fabulous goth and alternative music celebration and gathering.

Amphi festival started back in 2005 as The Orkus open air, a two-day music event in Gelsenkirchen, before settling down the next year in beautiful Cologne and Tanzbrunnen.

We as Electrowelt.com had the privilege and joy to be part of this wonderful Amphi journey since 2008, we have been part of the celebrations with our dj sets and enjoyed all bands performing, having the opportunity to check out big names of the scene, as well as newcomers who they have become well-known since then.

An awesome and killer line-up this year too! Organizers never seize to amaze us with the bands announced each year and the surprises they prepare for us.

Headliners for 2024 are the powerful Germans EISBRECHER for Saturday and the electro pop sensation act of AND ONE for Sunday,

Amphi also makes sure that we find out and enjoy many hidden gems of the scene and the minimal wave scene like Minuit Machine, Kaehlan Mikla. I also looking forward to check out the very promising Belgian band Ultra Sunn and one of my favorite goth bands, Merciful Nuns too.

And of course, once again, many first time Amphi performances too, as well as big names are part of the festival’s roster, as you will see below. Now let’s share some inside experience info for the newcomers, to help decide on definitely visiting Amphi this year: Amphi is held at a wonderful location by the river in summertime, Performances take place at two stages, we have the amphitheatrical Main Stage, the indoor venue of Theater, where pre-festival and after parties are also being held there, and during recent years, we also have the additional great party and concert onboard choice of RheinEnergie. During the festivities, visitors have the chance to hand at the beach club KM 689 and enjoy a cold beer, a drink or food looking over a breathtaking view of the river and the Cologne cathedral, a really fantastic way to get some rest and continue with the gigs. You can also explore the beautiful city of Cologne and its landmarks. For all of you who like to indulge in some goth shopping, don’t worry, organizers have taken that care too! Many gothic stores, a super outdoor and indoor, under a tent, stores.

After arriving on Friday, first job we have to take care of is to get our wristbands, so we head to the amphi stands at the main entrance to do so and after that, with the party ticket at hand, we dive in to the opening events!

The special opening concert of “Call The Ship To Port” is taking place for the ninth time this year. On Friday July 26, the MS RheinEnergie, will take 1,333 festival goers on a boat trip across the Rhine and on stage three exclusive power live-acts will set the pulse and give the best send off for the Amphi-weekend: COMBICHRIST, RABIA SORDA and X-RX. The event, as it is announced, is once more already sold out, so hopefully you have bought your tickets.

 

Afterwards, if you are up to it, it’s time again for the official Amphi Pre-Party at the Theater am Tanzbrunnen, that starts at 10pm. This year SOLAR FAKE’s Sven Friedrich, Honey from WELLE:ERDBALL, as well as dj like DJ Elvis (The Memphis) and Jeanny (Amphi) will be starting off the festivities in the best way possible with electro, ebm, synth pop timeless dancefloor hits!

Following the project’s debut last November with the brilliant single and EP “My Cathedral,” a haunting lament about grief and isolation that captivated listeners with its dark, atmospheric sound and hauntingly beautiful vocals, Stare Away is now stirring the waters with the release of their new EP, “I Dream of Nothing,” which is out now.

Hailing now from the ever-alive streets of Brooklyn, NYC, Stare Away, the solo project of musician Ben Nelson, elegantly pirouettes between the anarchic spirit of classic post-punk and the elusive rhythms of electronic music. Its sound, a concoction that’s both a trip down memory lane and a peek into tomorrow, reverberates with the haunted whispers of the late 70s and 80s. Drawing inspiration from the old-school enchantment of artists such as The Sound, Lowlife, The Teardrop Explodes, and The Cure, Stare Away crafts a soundscape that is at once reminiscent and revolutionary. The music is also laced with the playful mischief of artists such as Drab Majesty, Jonathan Bree, and Current Joys — but imagine their LPs played at a faster speed. Die schwedischen Doom/Folk-Helden DUN RINGILL hatten mit „The Crucifixion“ das Video zum ersten Song vom zweiten Teil des Konzeptalbum „Where The Old Gods Play“ veröffentlicht. Nun haben die Göteborger mit “Dark Clouds Are Rising” einen weiteren Song veröffentlicht, den man bei den üblichen Streaming-Plattformen anhören kann.

„Where The Old Gods Play – Part 1“ erschien statt wie geplant im August 2023 erst im Februar dieses Jahres. Um dies live zu feiern waren DUN RINGILL auch bei uns für fünf Shows unterwegs, gemeinsam mit IRON WALRUS.

Gerade wurde der Release von „Where The Old Gods Play – Part 2“ auf Anfang September gesetzt. Der zweite Teil führt die Storyline um Lucia in Schottland im späten 1900 weiter. Im Herbst sind bisher zumindest in Skandinavien einige Shows geplant, um den Release zu feiern. Unter anderem mit STILLBORN, welche ihr neues Album “Netherworlds” am 28.06. veröffentlichen sowie mit YEAR OF THE GOAT.

After their debut album “No Songs For Lovers” from 2019, the German alternative post-punk / rock / wave band INADREAM, founded in 2016, are going to release their second long player entitled "Strange Words" on October 18, 2024 via ECHOZONE.

The first single "Die Away" including a music video has already been released and will be followed in September by the second single + video clip for the song "White Light" (with "Dead Souls" as the B-side). After the album release in November, the album title song "Strange Words" will be released.

ROYAL BLOOD feiern das zehnjährige Jubiläum ihres selbstbetitelten Debütalbums. Daher hat das Blues- / Garage-Rock-Duo für 16. August 2024 eine Neuauflage mit Bonustracks angekündigt. Diese umfassen vier B-Seiten, unveröffentlichtes Material sowie fünf Live-Aufnahmen aus dem Jahr 2015.

Die Rock-Band ROXTON um Sänger, Gitarrist und Songwriter Max Roxton hat eine neue Single geteilt: “Bottoms Up” kann man sich als Lyric-Video bei YouTube ansehen.

Auch den Song “Crisis Or Game” kann man sich auf einigen Streaming-Plattformen anhören. Zur vorherigen Single “All In Vain” haben ROXTON zudem ein Musikvideo produziert.

“All In Vain” wurde von Max Roxton selbst produziert und setzt sich inhaltlich kritisch mit einer “macht- und wachstumsorientierten globalen Politik” auseinander. Das Stück ist der erste Vorbote des zweiten Studioalbums, welches voraussichtlich im Herbst 2024 erscheinen wird.

Die Noise Rock-Band DESOLAT hat mit “This Band Is Your Yoga” einen Video-Clip ihres kommenden Albums “Get Sick And Let Me Watch You Die” veröffentlicht. Es ist nach “Elegance Is an Attitude​.​.​. to Shit On.” (2018) das zweite Album des österreichischen Trios aus Wien und handelt von politischen Unruhen, gesellschaftlicher Abscheu und einer „Live Fast/Die Young“-Gesinnung.

Albumtitel und Artwork wurden vom BRUTAL JUICE-Album “I Love The Way They Scream When They Die” inspiriert. Das Album wurde gemeinsam mit Rainer Spänle in den Cosmix Studios in Wien aufgenommen und gemixt und von Dan Swanö gemastert. Release-Termin ist der 14. Juni 2024 via Reptilian Records und Bloodshed 666 Records.

Vorab gibt es auch den Track “(Gin) Tonic Youth” zu hören.

“Der Song zelebriert Eskapismus, Selbstzerstörung, Selbsthass, Schnaps, Drogenkonsum und harte Partys”, erklärt die Band. “Wir sind Kids der 90er Jahre, der Grunge-Ära, der Generation X, die auch stark von der Punk- und Hardcore-Kultur der 80er Jahre beeinflusst ist. Der aktuelle Zeitgeist der Generation Z ist ein starker Kontrapunkt dazu, bei dem die Kids manchmal noch uncooler und verklemmter zu sein scheinen als ihre Eltern. Können Sie sich vorstellen, dass Alkohol und Rauchen unter Jugendlichen als uncool gelten? Die Leute wollen an ihrer Work-Life-Balance arbeiten, früh ins Bett gehen, Yoga machen, ins Fitnessstudio gehen und so weiter. Das geht Hand in Hand mit dem Aufstieg der Sicherheitsgesellschaft, in der die Menschen anscheinend für jedes Problem eine Versicherung erwarten, anstatt Verantwortung zu übernehmen und zu handeln. Mach dich frei! Gib mir Gefahr! Sich zu besaufen und die Dinge nicht allzu ernst zu nehmen, macht immer noch eine Menge Spaß!”

Gerade mal zwei Neueinstiege aus dem Rock- und Metal-Bereich: Immerhin schafft es mit BRING ME THE HORIZON in dieser langsamen Woche auch ein Vertreter in die Top 10. Dass “Post Human: NeX GEn” letzten Endes sogar auf der Acht landet, ist durchaus eine Hausnummer, schließlich ist die Platte bislang ausschließlich digital verfügbar. Daher wollen wir es im Vergleich zu den Vorgängern auch nicht wirklich als Rückschritt werten, obwohl “amo” (2019) seinerzeit Rang drei erreichte und “Post Human: Survival Horror” (2020) mit ähnlicher Veröffentlichungsstrategie am Ende noch Platz vier erorbern konnte. Einen kleinen Sprung nach vorne machen zudem ROTTING CHRIST mit “Pro Xristou” auf Platz 35 – eine Steigerung nach Nummer 51 für “The Heretics” (2019).

Die Stoner Rock-Band HIGH DESERT QUEEN hat einen Labeldeal bei Magnetic Eye Records unterschrieben. Dieser Deal umfasst den Release gleich mehrerer Alben – das erste davon trägt den Titel “Palm Reader”, das am 31. Mai 2024 veröffentlicht wurde. Es ist nach “Secrets of the Black Moon” (2021) das zweite Album der US-amerikanischen Band aus Texas. Zum Release teilte die Gruppe einen Clip zu “Palm Reader” bei YouTube.

Einen Höreindruck gewährt außerdem die dritte Single “Death Perception” – mit Gast-Sängerin Emma Näslund (GAUPA). Zuvor teilte die Gruppe die Vorab-Songs “Ancient Aliens” bei YouTube und “Time Waster” bei YouTube.

Aufgenommen wurde die Platte von Casey Johns, Mix und Mastering übernahm Karl Daniel Lidén. Für das Artwork zeichnet PabloRR verantwortlich.

In Victorian literature’s dimly lit, flickering corridors, one might imagine the hesitant footsteps of Berlin musician William Bleakechoing in the dark. As a figure deftly maneuvers through the shadows, Bleak could very well be a tragic protagonist caught in a narrative of mystery, obsession, madness, and the supernatural.

Initially, William Bleak’s music was awash in the ethereal echoes of dreamy rock, capturing the essence of shoegaze and the fleeting nature of memories slipping through one’s fingers. But the stark chill of Berlin’s winters left its mark on the band, driving a transformation. Their music has grown bolder, colder, and heavier, pared down to its raw core for a sound that strikes with greater force. William Bleak now channels the dark spirit of his gothic literary predecessors, infusing his post-punk, cold-wave style with a blend of electronic beats, frenetic guitar riffs, and resonant basslines. This evolution reflects a deepened connection to the haunting and the profound, a tribute to the enduring shadows of the past, reframed through a modern lens.

Now, the Teutonic Troubadour releases Skin On Skin, a desperate cry for human connection in a world of plastic love and digital distance. A soul is caught in the torment of longing and loss—a desperate need for genuine connection clashes with the agony of unreciprocated feelings. The pain of past love lingers, rendering present pleasures hollow. Despite the raw intimacy and confessions, there’s a haunting emptiness, leaving the narrator yearning for something real and true.

The video for Skin on Skin unfolds in stark duo-chrome, red and black as William Bleak pours his soul into the microphone, his face adorned in corpse paint. It’s an intense performance, a ritual of sorts, seeking to conjure that elusive “something real.” Whether it s쳮ds remains to be seen, but it’s a fun video nonetheless.

CLAN OF XYMOX haben heute ein neues Video zur EP „X-Odus“ veröffentlicht, dem ersten Vorgeschmack auf ihr kommendes Album „Exodus“. Die neue „X-Odus“ EP enthält Remixe von TRAITRS, The Bellwether Syndicate, Principe Valiente und anderen. „Exodus“, das 18. Album der Band, wird am 7. Juni von Metropolis Records auf allen digitalen und Streaming-Formaten sowie als CD-Version veröffentlicht. Clan of Xymox werden im Juni durch Nordamerika touren.

Die Doom-Death Metal-Band GRAIN OF PAIN hat einen Labeldeal bei Noble Demon unterschrieben. Im Zuge dessen hat das von Timo Solonen (INFIRMUM) ins Leben gerufene Projekt mit “The Moon Lights The Way” ein neues und erstes Album veröffentlicht. Zum Release folgt nun ein Musikvideo zum Song “Beneath” bei YouTube.

Weitere Mitstreiter des Finnen sind Gitarrist Juho Räihä (BEFORE THE DAWN, SWALLOW THE SUN, GLORIA MORTI), Bassist Lars Eikind (WINDS, Ex-BEFORE THE DAWN), Drummer Juuso Raatikainen (SWALLOW THE SUN, HEDONIHIL), Sängerin Sini Pajunen und Sänger Taka Eliel (INFIRMUM).

“The Moon Lights The Way”, das mit einem Cover-Artwork von Gogo Melone ausgestattet wurde, ist am 31. Mai 2024 erschienen. Vorab gab es ein Lyric-Video vom Titeltrack.
