Die Hardcore-Band SARS hat einen Labeldeal bei Time To Kill Records unterschrieben. Im Zuge dessen werden die Finnen ihr neues Album “Nothing Hurts Quite Like Life” veröffentlichen, dessen Release für den 12. Juli 2024 geplant ist. Es ist nach einer EP – “Throne of Ash” (2022) – das erste Album der 2016 gegründeten Band aus Turku. Nach “Bitter Soil” ist mit “Away From My Mind” nun die zweite Vorab-Single erschienen.

Die Experimental Black Metal-Band MALCONFORT hat einen Labeldeal bei Transcending Obscurity Records unterschrieben. Im Zuge dessen wird das britische Trio, welches aus Nuun (SEA MOSQUITO), Fas (SEA MOSQUITO, AMALTHEIA) und Kopczak besteht, ihr neues Album “Humanism” veröffentlichen. Es wird das erste Album der Band sein. Release-Termin ist der 5. Juli 2024. Nach “Rage (Indulgence)” und “Cruelty” gibt es mit dem Opener “Compulsion (Ecstasy)” nun einen dritten Vorab-Song.

Die Doom / Stoner Metal-Band ALUNAH hat mit “Fever Dream” ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist das siebte Album der Engländer aus Birmingham in ihrer fast zwanzigjährigen Karriere.

“Fever Dream” wurde von Chris Fielding (Ex-CONAN) im walisischen Foel Studio produziert und mit einem Cover-Artwork von Stefán Ari Stefánsson (THE VINTAGE CARAVAN) ausgestattet. Release-Termin ist der 20. September 2024 via Heavy Psych Sounds. Vorab gibt es den Opener “Never Too Late” – mit Gast-Sängerin Francis Tobolsky (WUCAN) – zu hören.

Die Cybergrind-Band THOTCRIME hat mit “Connection Anxiety” ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist nach “ønyøurcømputer” (2020) und “D1G1T4L_DR1FT” (2022) das dritte Album der US-amerikanischen und britischen Band.

“”Connection Anxiety” ist eine ganze Menge”, eröffnet Sängerin Hayley Elizabeth. “Diese Platte fühlt sich an wie eine Proklamation, dass wir die Hoffnung nicht aufgeben. Ich hoffe, die Platte macht so viel Spaß wie sie proaktiv ist. Ich hoffe, dass unser dritter Eintrag unsere Existenz in einer sich ständig verändernden Welt festigt. Ich hoffe auch, dass unsere Fans, die sich diese Platte anhören, mit ihrer Botschaft mitschwingen: “Eine bessere Welt ist möglich, und es ist okay, dass Veränderungen passieren, auch wenn sie beängstigend sind.””

“Connection Anxiety” wird am 16. August 2024 via Prosthetic Records erscheinen. Vorab gibt es mit “The Wrong Way” und “Behind the Cracks” eine Doppel-Single.

TRELLDOM sind das geistige Kind von Kristian Eivind Espedal – besser bekannt unter seinem Künstlernamen Gaahl. Der Norweger wurde zu einem der führenden Köpfe der nordischen Black Metal Szene, nachdem er sich im Jahr 1998 der berüchtigten Bergener Band GORGOROTH angeschlossen hatte. Sowohl aufgrund seines extremen Gesangs als auch zahlreicher finsterer Gerüchte über seine Person wurde der Frontmann oft in eine besonders schmale Schublade gesteckt. Doch wenn eine Aussage über Espedal wahr ist, dann ist es die gegenteilige, nämlich dass von ihm meist das Unerwartete kommt. Auch mit TRELLDOM hat er bereits Black Metal Geschichte geschrieben. Die im Jahr 1992 von Gaahl in Sunnfjord im Distrikt Vestland, gegründete Band veröffentlichte drei Jahre später ihr Debütalbum "Til evighet..." (1995), das in Underground Black Metal Kreisen großen Anklang fand. Das Nachfolgeralbum "Til et annet..." (1999) präsentierte den Gitarristen Valgard sowie Stian "Sir" Kårstad am Bass als Neuzugänge bei TRELLDOM und erreichte auch die "Mainstream-Medien" im Metal. Als Produzent zeichnete der legendäre Toningenieur Pytten in den Grieghallen Studios in Bergen verantwortlich. Pytten nahm ebenfalls den dritten Meilenstein "Til minne..." (2007) auf, der sowohl von Kritikern als auch von Fans hoch gelobt wurde. Einer der Schlüsselaspekte dieser ersten TRELLDOM-Trilogie lag darin, dass Gaahl in seiner eigenen Band die Möglichkeiten seiner Stimme frei von den strengen Regeln erforschen konnte, unter denen GORGOROTH operierte. Danach wurde es still um die Band, da sich alle beteiligten Musiker auf zahlreiche andere Projekte konzentrierten. Bei der Rückkehr bleibt die wichtige Zusammenarbeit mit Stian Kårstad das musikalische Herzstück der Band. Der größte Teil des Materials auf "...by the shadows..." stammt aus der Feder des Gitarristen. Andere Aspekte von TRELLDOM hat Espedal bewusst verändert. Die daraus resultierenden Effekte haben zu faszinierenden Resultaten geführt. Auf dem Hocker thront nun der renommierte Schlagzeuger Kenneth Kapstad, der neun Jahre lang bei MOTORPSYCHO war und aktuell auch bei SPIDERGAWD, MØSTER! und THORNS für den Rhythmus sorgt. Mit Kapstad stieß auch der international gefeierte Jazzmusiker und Saxophonist Kjetil Møster (MØSTER!, RÖYKSOPP, THE END) zur Besetzung. Die Einbeziehung von Møsters unorthodoxen Saxophon-Klängen ist ein erstes Indiz dafür, dass sich TRELLDOM nicht mehr durch eine enge Definition von Black Metal gebunden fühlen. Die Musik auf "...by the shadows..." ist zwar nach wie vor dunkel und harsch, und auch ihre Wurzeln in der schwarzen Vergangenheit bleiben erkennbar. Doch Espedal hat seine Band in eine weitaus komplexere Kreatur verwandelt und sie in einer avantgardistischen Dimension losgelassen - mit einem Sound, der manchmal sogar ins Experimentelle reicht. TRELLDOM sind erwacht und liefern mit "...by the shadows..." ein beherztes Manifest der künstlerischen Freiheit als starke Kampfansage an jegliche nostalgische Stagnation ab. Dieses Album fordert heraus: Love it or leave it!

Der Samen für ELEPHANT TREE wurde im Jahr 2013 irgendwo in Londons modrigen Seitengassen in einem Proberaum gepflanzt. Dort wuchsen aus dem Bass von Jack Townley und Sam Harts Schlagzeug die ersten Töne des späteren "Attack of the Altaica" Demos hervor. Damit war der Song geradezu prädestiniert zum Eröffnungsstück der neuen Raritätensammlung "Handful of Ten". Die ansteckende Mischung aus warmem, zerschmelzendem Gitarren-Fuzz und hochfliegenden Gesangsharmonien des Demos führte schnell zu einem Plattenvertrag und bereits im September 2014 erschien das erste Album "Theia". Das Debütalbum wurde von Kritikern und Fans gleichermaßen hervorragend aufgenommen und dieser Meilenstein wird nun als Anniversary Edition neu aufgelegt. Eine Fülle von seltenen Fotos, Liner-Notes und Texten polieren das Artwork frisch auf. Die hart arbeitenden Engländer ruhten sich keineswegs auf ihren Lorbeeren aus, sondern legten im Jahr 2015 mit dem selbstbetitelten zweiten Langspieler "Elephant Tree" erfolgreich nach. Dagegen scheiterte ELEPHANT TREEs Versuch, mit einem Label näher der Heimat zu arbeiten, ohne eigenes Verschulden, an Problemen des neuen Partners. Dadurch erhielt das hoch gelobte "Habits" aus dem Jahr 2020 nicht die nötige anhaltende Unterstützung. ELEPHANT TREE veröffentlichen das gesuchte dritte Album zum zehnjährigen neu über Magnetic Eye, womit es endlich wieder verfügbar wird. Mit "Handful of Ten" blicken ELEPHANT TREE auf zehn aufregende Jahre zurück, die sie mit großartigen Stücken aus ihrem Archiv sowie neuen Tracks feiern. Langjährige Anhänger dürfen sich ebenso wie neue Freunde auf den einzigartigen melodischen Doom der Engländer freuen: nur Thriller, keine Filler!

Parisian band JE T’AIME masterfully intertwines the rich heritage of French post-punk and coldwave, summoning the spectral presence of Manchester’s Factory Records with echoes of The Cure and whispers of The Smiths. “The Last Words Of A Sad and Pathetic Hero” is the final track from their double album PASSIVE-AGGRESSIVE, released in 2022 by Manic Depression Records and Icy Cold Records. This song marks a poignant conclusion to a significant chapter in their career.

Exploring themes of death, fatherhood, family, and love, the song follows an imperfect hero—a tragic figure fans have rooted for since the band’s inception. Heart-wrenching lyrics and a haunting melody reminiscent of Nino Rotta’s work in The Godfather ensure the song lingers long after it ends.

The lyrics dive into a profound numbness and loss, suggesting the speaker’s emotional and physical disconnection. The refrain, “A kiss I’m in hell,” paints a picture of a relationship as prickly as a cactus. Amidst this thorny romance, there’s a yearning to express unspoken words wrapped in regret and sorrow. Yet, within the melancholy, there’s a hint of humor—a poetic reminder that even in our darkest moments, we seek connection and understanding.

“Our last double album, “PASSIVE/AGGRESSIVE,” talks about the “Peter Pan syndrome” and the difficulty of growing up,” The band explains. “Our main character is constantly caught up in the past, repeats the same mistakes over and over again, and ends up not being able to move forward in his life. It is no mystery that the band’s music constantly looks for influences in the past 80s for that reason.

On this record, we felt the need to find how to mix our three personalities while keeping it coherent. That gives a more complex sound but is still catchy, dark, and open at the same time to bring life to the lyrics based on our own stories. We’re definitely not only killing a fictional character but also closing a trilogy and signaling the end of an era for us in this song.”

Filmed entirely at the Chapelle Expiatoire in Paris, a memorial dedicated to the victims of the French Revolution, including Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette, the historical backdrop adds a layer of depth to the project.

Directed by French photographer and multimedia artist Anaïs Novembre, the video for the song is an artistic feast, merging music, storytelling, and striking visuals. It’s a heartfelt tribute to the band’s music and the story behind this ambitious project.

“It’s a very intimate song, and despite the symbolic charge of its setting filled with history, it’s this intimacy that I’m evoking here.
It’s a sincere simplicity, a total stripping down; my job this time was to completely erase myself, leaving behind the frills, the hidden languages. Leaving only the cold beauty of the tragedy of this last track.”

In einem Social Media-Posting hat REVEL IN FLESH-Sänger Ralf „Haubersson“ Haubers das vorläufige Ende der Death Metal-Band bekannt gegeben. Bei Facebook und Instagram schreibt er:

Servants of the Deathkult,

hier spricht Haubersson:
Die Entwicklung seit dem Jahr 2023 und eine Reihe von länger schwelenden Konflikten in der Band führen zum Ende: Fabian, Magge und Henrik geben ihren Austritt aus REVEL IN FLESH und der gemeinsamen Unternehmung, die uns verbunden hat, bekannt. Dieses Line-Up hat sein zwischenmenschliches und kreatives Ende erreicht.

Alle anstehenden Auftritte wurden abgesagt. Nach dem aktuellen Stand werden die Aufnahmen für unser sechstes Album nicht wie geplant veröffentlicht, denn das wäre nur ein Kompromiss, den so niemand wirklich will.

Diese Ankündigung ist ein Schock für alle Fans, aber die Musik von REVEL IN FLESH wird weiterleben. Eure Unterstützung wird uns immer in guter Erinnerungen bleiben –  wir danken euch dafür aus tiefstem Herzen!!!
Zum jetzigen Zeitpunkt bin ich das einzige verbliebene Kernmitglied des Lineups. Wir möchten uns bei Session-Mitglied Jonas für seinen Einsatz seit 2021 bedanken.
Es gibt immer noch eine Menge gemischter Gefühle, aber die Trennung bietet für uns alle neue Möglichkeiten. Ich wünsche allen alles Gute.

REVEL IN FLESH werden sich nun in eine Art Dornröschenschlaf begeben.
Ich brauche eine Pause, um wieder zu Kräften zu kommen (gesundheitliche Probleme) und um darüber nachzudenken, wie und ob es mit dem Deathkult weitergehen könnte.  Da wir uns mit DEATH METAL beschäftigen, weiß man nie, wann die Leichen von den Toten zurückkommen.

Im Nachhinein eine gute Idee von Kai Manke/Networking, mir die neue und vierte CD von der kalifornischen Rockband L.A. Edwards einfach mal so zu schicken, denn sonst hätte ich wohl wieder eine famose Veröffentlichung verpaßt. Die Multiinstrumentalisten und von den Medien betitelte „Band of Brothers“ (3 Brüder spielen zusammen, dies aber in Harmonie..nicht wie bei Oasis) haben wieder eine Platte mit eingängigen Folk, dynamisch, kraftvollem Rock und gehaltvollen Country Einflüssen rausgehauen, die in dem Genre „kreativer Wohlfühl Rock“ ihres gleichen sucht. Ich habe mir im Vorfeld mal ihre bereits 3 produzierten und veröffentlichten Videos  von „Gone 4U“ ,“Good Luck“ und „Comin Around“ angeschaut und schon hier kommen klangliche Anleihen an Gruppen wie TOM PETTY AND THE HEARTBREAKERS, BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN, THE CHURCH, REM, GO BETWEENS, DIRE STRAITS, THE WAR ON DRUGS  und anderen Verdächtigen aus der Richtung gut zur Geltung. Obwohl man diese ganzen Bands garnicht mehr zu nennen bräuchte, da die Band inzwischen ihre absolut eigenen und überzeugende Soundlandschaften mit Wiedererkennung kreiert hat. Im Song „Comin Around“ geht es inhaltlich z.B. um eine Art Entschuldigung und Abschied, dabei aber auch einen hoffnungsvollen, vergebenen Weg einzuschlagen und letztendlich den inneren Frieden zu finden, so L.A. Edwards. Auch die tragende Stimme vom Frontmann, Singer Songwriter LUKE ANDREW EDWARDS, die der vom großen JACKSON BROWNE  nicht unähnlich klingt, paßt wunderbar in das Sound Gerüst, das diesmal mit Hintergrundsounds von fetten Keyboards und Synths unterstützt wurde, um den voluminösen Mix der Platte
noch mehr hervorzuheben. Zudem wurden Rhythmusgitarren sehr viel durch Synthies ersetzt, was den Gitarren ermöglicht, mehr hervorzustechen und riffbasierter und spärlicher zu klingen. Der Albumtitel ist übrigens eine Hommage an die kleine Heimatstadt von Bandleader Luke Edwards in der kalifornischen Wüste und wie beim Vorgängeralbum hat Luke auch diesmal wieder die komplette Produktion selber in die Hand genommen. Nach den ausverkauften Touren mit RIVAL SONS, LUCINDA WILLIAMS, THE WHITE BUFFALO kommen die sympathischen US Boys im Juli auch für 4 Gigs nach Deutschland, laßt Euch das nicht entgehen.

Die Progressive Death Metal-Band DÅÅTH präsentiert ihr aktuelles Album “The Deceivers” mit einer weiteren Singe und hat nun auch ein Video zu “Deserving The Grave”  veröffentlicht. Für den Track konnten DÅÅTH Jeff Loomis als Gastmusiker gewinnen.

Zurvor teilten DAATH bereits weitere Clips wie ein Video zu “Unwelcome Return” sowie einen Clip zu “Ascension”. Auch bei letzterem Song kam ein Gastmusiker zum Zug: Dean Lamb von ARCHSPIRE.

Schon im März veröffentlichten DAATH einen Videoclip zur Single “Hex Unending” bei YouTube. Zu hören ist in dem Song auch ICE NINE KILLS-Gitarrist Dan Sugarman.

Zuvor hatte die Formation mit “The Silent Foray” eine weitere Single veröffentlicht, bei dem Track ist Per Nilson von SCAR SYMMETRY als Gast zuhören. Weitere Vorab-Songs sind “No Rest No End” sowie “Purified by Vengeance“.

“The Deceivers” enthält neun Songs und wurde von Gitarrist Eyal Levi selbst produziert. Den Mix übernahm Jens Bogren, für das Mastering zeichnet Tony Lindgren verantwortlich.

The Cult has announced new dates for its 40th Anniversary celebration, including the “Canada 8424 Tour” and West Coast dates in the U.S. The latter is being billed as a preview of the band’s soon-to-be-announced 2025 US tour.

The Cult occupies a unique position in music history, credited to their audacious fusion of post-punk, hard rock, and experimental elements. They fearlessly transcended conventional boundaries, leaving an indelible mark on a wide spectrum of genres. From Billy Duffy’s formative years in the Manchester underground music scene to Ian Astbury’s revolutionary Gathering of the Tribes, this duo has undeniably shaped the landscape of modern music.

Formed in 1984 in England, The Cult has sold millions of albums and earned international and U.S. gold and platinum certifications. Ian Astbury (vocals) and Billy Duffy (guitar) have released 11 studio albums, earning the nickname “Shamanic Goths.”

Their latest release, Under the Midnight Sun, proves they’ve still got the fire. In late 2023, Astbury and Duffy even brought back Death Cult for some live gigs, including a U.S. show at The Theatre at The Ace Hotel and sold-out U.K. dates at the Brixton Electric. As if that wasn’t enough, they’ve been rolling out vinyl reissues of their acclaimed albums in early 2024. The Cult’s flame shows no sign of dimming.

The Cult will be making stops in Canada, starting in Montreal on September 4, followed by Toronto, Windsor, Thunder Bay, Winnipeg, Regina, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, and Victoria. The West Coast leg of the U.S. tour will include stops in Salem, Auburn, Redding, Paso Robles, Lincoln, Highland, and Valley Center.

Kidaphex1975, aka James J. Trottier, is a Berlin-based musician with a knack for blending American Indie rock, ’80s British alternative, and ’60s protest folk. Trottier’s been penning tunes since he was 15, honing his craft in Canada before making the big leap to Berlin in 2010. That move was the kick he needed to go full throttle on his music career, leading to his debut album Hunger Streets dropping in August 2016.

Fast forward to his latest release, ISOLA, where Kidaphex1975 dials up the organic production without ditching the neon vibes of his earlier work. He ropes in Berlin artist Wasp Summer (Sam Wareing) for two tracks, and gets backup vocal support on the first single Innocent Lost from Tara C Taylor, another Berlin-based singer-songwriter.

“About three quarters through, I realized I had about two albums on my hands: one more dancy, new wavy and one where the songwriting took front and centre and I wanted to deliver them, with as little artifice as possible,” he explains. “I worked on about eighteen different songs, but couldn’t quite find the common thread until I looked closer at the lyrics….I realized I was actually not doing so well, after years of a pandemic, I found myself isolating and being aware of the passing of time. I reflected on how I have changed as a person and dealt with feelings of regret, sorrow and just the general bleak state of the world.”

The result is an intensely honest and emotional record, supported by solid songwriting and relatively minimalist production. “I wanted the vocals and harmonies to really stand out and let the songs speak for themselves,” he continues. “I was challenged to not do too much and let them stand on their own. I’m really proud of that.”

The opening and titled track, Isola, dives into feelings of loneliness and despair, painting a picture of a metaphorical ship that’s not just sailed but sunk, leaving the speaker high and dry. Amidst burning sand and turning tides, there’s a yearning to put out an internal fire, a nod to modern life’s disconnect. It’s a call to find light in the darkness. Innocence Lost serves up a hefty dose of manipulation, with claims of not belonging and love fading used as power plays. Despite a desire to love, there’s an instinct to run, pushing away when it counts, highlighting some serious inner turmoil and doubt.

Nametag portrays a relentless pursuit in a desolate landscape, driven by deep longing and powerlessness. It’s a snapshot of lonely life, emphasizing an inescapable emptiness and a future void of desired connection. Worryhead dishes out a grim take on life, love, and the ticking clock. Improvement and divine help? Forget it. The present is harsh, the future is a blur, and the past is a weight. There’s a sense of inevitability about the end, with worry and emptiness front and center, suggesting that even faith and magic are just fillers for the void.

The tender One Tribe honours a resilient and inspiring figure who embraced life, conquered challenges, and spread love and strength. She found peace, faced the destroyer, and lifted spirits without questioning her purpose. Despite her passing, her legacy as a guiding force and fierce protector lives on. The message encourages resilience and honoring those who fight on, even when facing loss and walking the road alone.

A sense of disillusionment with a once familiar place, now transformed and commercialized, haunts City With Wounds. Despite chasing dreams, they find peace in the quiet moments, realizing they don’t need drastic measures to feel alive. Confusion and uncertainty about reaching a breaking point and understanding emotions plague Halfshitbricking. Despite longing to rekindle their emotional core, they struggle with understanding their own feelings and motivations, highlighting a deep sense of emotional paralysis. Country Morning paints a vivid picture of seeking solace and beauty in a country morning, contrasting life’s turbulence with nature’s serenity. Ultimately, they long for the freedom and beauty of an endless sky.

Fallen From The Stars describe a cynical view of the world, where disillusionment and corruption dominate. The speaker sees through the façade of societal and individual pretenses, highlighting themes of lost innocence and exploited ideals. With references to historical and mythical imagery, the song contrasts the chaos and despair of reality with fleeting hopes for a better future. Change is all about that lightbulb moment when you realize you’re not who you used to be. The protagonist grapples with finding peace and direction, acknowledging a transformation that’s left them feeling like a stranger in their own skin. It’s a wake-up call that change is inevitable, and making peace with it is easier said than done.

Good to See You rolls out the red carpet for a friend weighed down by sorrow, offering a cozy respite from their troubles. It’s all about sharing a comforting moment and letting them know they matter.  Finally, Fuerteventura paints the picture of a dreamy romantic escape under a sky full of stars. The lovers enjoy cocktails, warm breezes, and intimate moments on the beach and in the pool. Even on Halloween, they bask in each other’s company, grateful for their love and good fortune.

The record was self-recorded in Berlin from 2021 to 2023. Also mixed, produced and mastered by Kidaphex1975 himself. The ISOLA album is out now via Distribution Platform RecordJet and is available on all major distribution platforms. There are no concerts planned yet, but a few performances are expecting by the end of the year.

Die britische Metalcore-Band POLAR meldet sich nach größerem Line-up-Umbruch mit einer neuen Single zurück: “Swimming With Sharks” ist der zweite Track des neuen Line-ups. Auch “We Won’t Sleep” gibt es in Bild und Ton bei YouTube.

Außerdem kommt die Gruppe im Juni 2024 für vier Konzerte nach Deutschland. Angesetzt sind Shows in Bochum, Leipzig, Dresden sowie Frankfurt. Die zunächst für München angesetzte Show musste die Band absagen – stattdessen steht nun ein Termin in Dresden auf dem Programm.

Mit dabei haben wird das Quintett auch sein aktuelles Album “Everywhere, Everything” (2023).

Die Blackened Death-Doom Metal-Band AMAROK hat mit “Legacy (XIII)” einen zweiten Track ihres kommenden Albums “Resilience” veröffentlicht.

“”Legacy (XIII)” ist der persönlichste Song, den ich je geschrieben habe, was den Text angeht”, sagt Sänger Brandon Squyres. “Ich habe ihn über den Tod meines Vaters geschrieben, aber er hat eine viel breitere Bedeutung für mich, einschließlich des Vermächtnisses, das zu viele meiner Freunde hinterlassen haben, die gestorben sind. Es ist ein Song, der sich mit den Gefühlen der Trauer beschäftigt, wenn man jemanden verliert, der einem wichtig ist, und dann versucht, sich auf das zu konzentrieren, was er zu deinem Leben beigetragen hat, anstatt auf das, was du verloren hast.”

Zuvor ist mit “Charred (X)” – mit Gast-Sänger Dave Edwardson (NEUROSIS) – der Opener des Albums erschienen.

“Dieser Song steht symbolisch für den Beinahe-Totalverlust der Häuser von Familie und Freunden, einschließlich des Elternhauses unseres Gitarristen durch das Camp Fire. Der tödlichste und zerstörerischste Waldbrand in der Geschichte Kaliforniens”, erklärt Sänger Brandon Squyres.

“Resilience” ist nach “Devoured” (2018) das zweite Album der US-Amerikaner aus Kalifornien, die (bereits) 2010 mit einer selbstbetitelten EP debütierten. Jeder dieser Releases erforscht verschiedene Facetten von der Natur inspirierten Themen, wobei jeder Song ein Kapitel in einer Geschichte der Transzendenz darstellt. Diese Bewegungen sind absichtlich in einer fortlaufenden römisch-numerischen Nummerierungssequenz markiert. “Resilience” setzt diese introspektive Reise mit einer ehrlichen Meditation über Verlust fort und bringt den Schmerz von Klimakatastrophen, existenzieller Angst und persönlichem Verlust zum Ausdruck, zusammen mit dem unerschütterlichen Kampf, diese zu überwinden.

“Resilience” wurde gemeinsam mit Greg Wilkinson in den Earhammer Studios aufgenommen und gemixt und von James Plotkin gemastert. Das Cover-Artwork stammt von Adam Burke. Release-Termin ist der 28. Juni 2024 via Vendetta Records.

The Psychedelic Furs and The Jesus and Mary Chain are hitting the road together for a North American co-headline tour! It’s a double dose of greatness bound to rattle some eardrums and stir up nostalgia. The fabulous Frankie Rose will open all the shows. Check out the dates below.

The Psychedelic Furs, who kicked off in 1977, carved out their niche with a mix of punk rock and art rock. Raspy-voiced Richard Butler led the charge, grabbing attention with their self-titled debut in 1980. But it was their 1981 album, Talk Talk Talk, that really put them on the map. Featuring the hit single Pretty in Pink, which got a second life as the theme of the 1986 John Hughes film, the track became an anthem for the ages. Throughout the ’80s, the Furs polished their sound and expanded their audience with gems like 1984’s Mirror Moves. Despite playing musical chairs with band members and taking a break in the ’90s, they bounced back with touring and recording, proving you can’t keep a good band down.

The Jesus and Mary Chain, comprising the dynamic duo of Scottish brothers Jim and William Reid, burst onto the scene in 1983 and shook up the alternative music world. Their debut album, 1985’s Psychocandy, is the kind of record that makes music snobs’ hearts skip a beat, blending ear-splitting feedback with sugar-sweet melodies. Just Like Honey nailed their signature sound and had critics throwing roses at their feet; known for their chaotic live shows and mysterious vibes, they inspired a legion of bands and were key players in the birth of shoegaze. After a well-deserved break, the brothers Reid made a triumphant return in 2007,  continuing to dish out new tunes and hitting the stage with the same rebellious spirit.

EMF, those mischievous lads from Cinderford, Gloucestershire, burst onto the scene in 1989 like a confetti cannon at a solemn dinner party. The name, officially standing for “Epsom Mad Funkers,” was a cheeky nod to a New Order fan club. They rocketed to fame with their debut single Unbelievable, which, let’s be honest, was stuck in everyone’s head for the better part of 1990.

Their debut album, Schubert Dip, released in 1991, was an exuberant mash-up of Madchester rhythms, catchy hooks, and a sprinkle of cheeky attitude. It wasn’t long before Unbelievable hit number one in the US, leading to a brief but glorious moment when EMF were the toast of both sides of the Atlantic.

Their follow-up album, Stigma, released in 1992, was darker and more introspective, which, in the music world, is usually code for “we’ve been through some stuff, man.” The party vibes of their debut were replaced with a more sombre tone, possibly inspired by the cold reality of constant touring and the existential dread that accompanies realizing your biggest hit has been used in far too many commercials.

By 1995, EMF was ready to unleash Cha Cha Cha, their third album, which felt like the musical equivalent of an all-night rave followed by an early morning soul-searching session. It was eclectic, unpredictable, and a bit like being at a party where you’re never quite sure if the host is about to pull out the karaoke machine or have a deep conversation about the meaning of life.

Despite their initial success, the band went on hiatus in 1997. But, like a persistent case of hiccups, they just couldn’t stay away for long. They reunited periodically over the years, much to the delight of their loyal fans. After the group went on hiatus in the early 2000s, songwriter Ian Dench found success as a songwriter for major pop acts including Beyoncé, Shakira, and Prodigy.

Throughout their career, EMF embodied a certain kind of irreverent charm. They were the pranksters of the early ’90s music scene, unafraid to mix genres, break rules, make a political statement or two –  and generally have a laugh at the absurdity of it all. Their legacy, much like their music, is a delightful mix of chaos, energy, and decades-long earworms.

Slated to grace Milwaukee’s Summerfest on June 21st, Detroit’s Magic Bag on June 22nd, and The Brooklyn Monarch in NYC on June 23rd, EMF is making their grand return to the U.S. after a staggering 31-year hiatus. Yes, you heard that right—1992 was the last time these cheeky chaps last set foot on American soil. Their live shows, famous for amplifying the already high-voltage energy of their studio recordings, have somehow retained every ounce of their youthful swagger and sweat-drenched exuberance.

Their latest album, The Beauty And The Chaos, saw the band smartly reinstating Ralph Jezzard—yes, the very same who twiddled the knobs on their first two albums, Schubert Dip and Stigma—to the producer’s chair. The album’s first single, Hello People, features actor Stephen Fry.

As they prepare to take the stage in the U.S. once more, fans can anticipate a show that’s less a reunion and more a revival of everything that made EMF unforgettable -and if their history is anything to go by, it’s going to be…unbelievable.

Post-Punk.com spoke with Dench about the upcoming tour, the beauty of synchronicity, a unique collaboration with Stephen Fry, and more!

It must be wild to be touring the US again after thirty years! 

Oh yeah! We’ve got fond memories of the US, and having that number one record as a relatively new band…we love the US, and I think that the US loved us. It will always be a special moment in all our lives. We did that tour just when the record went Number One after like, six weeks. We started in Chicago and went to Cleveland, New York. I was going down the East Coast, across, then up the West Coast – and just had the most amazing time. This time around we’re promoting a new album, The Beauty and the Chaos…Dipping our toes. And again, you know, to just get back over to the US. We’ve kind of slowly been becoming more active.

Doing your homework! 

I love it. It’s very upbeat – it’s, it’s got that great early 90s Britpop, Madchester sound. I really enjoyed it. So this tour is going to be promoting the album?

I think something happened in 2020, when we did our 30th anniversary shows. We went out on stage and the audience knew all the words of all the songs. Before that we thought, oh, this might be a farewell, because  time has passed. And I think there was so much love out there going both ways between the audience and us. I think we were wanting to relive those great moments. We wanted to do the good stuff! We needed to be doing more of this! …We toured a little bit, and then straight away we went to The Beauty and the Chaos, the latest album, and toured that a little bit in Germany. We did eleven dates in the UK this year, it’s good to be back – we’re enjoying it! So, you know…we thought we would perhaps we could get back to the States!

What are you looking forward to with your tour? What are US fans going to be able to expect from your live shows? What are you going to be bringing to the concerts?

Well, hopefully we’ll give them a little bit of everything! I think, you know, people want to remember the first album, Schubert Death. We’re going to be playing a lot of that. And, you know, a little bit of everything from our career, and a couple of new songs as well. We’re not going to just play a load of new songs.

Let’s talk about your album a little bit, The Beauty and the Chaos. What were the themes, creative process, or the inspiration behind it?

I think the most remarkable thing is that we did it with Ralph Jezzard, who produced the first albums. That was so great, to be with him again.

It must have been surreal!

Yeah, the strange thing is, that Ralph had been in Texas for years. We’d been meaning to work with him a few years ago because we always loved Ralph. And we thought oh, well, perhaps we’ll send Ralph a message and said that we conceived of a mix of something, and we could send it out to Texas. And he just moved back to literally round the corner from my studio.  It was wonderful. He’s very much part of the EMF sound, he did Unbelievable and Super Def and Stigma, the second album. It was great to have him back. So that was, that was remarkable for a start. 

A wonderful synchronicity! 

Synchronicity! Yeah! Then another bit of synchronicity was Hello People. It’s about refugees an all the hate myths around right wing, talking points – like, people coming and stealing our jobs, you know – and that’s and they’re real people. We need to welcome them and look after them because they’ve had a hard time, and we heard from Stephen Fry, who’d been a fan of the band for years…In fact, he’d read a poem or one of our tracks before, and he did this amazing video called, Facts Versus Fear, dispelling some of the myths around immigration.  I sampled some of that and sent his management and a message saying, would Stephen mind if we sampled him? He kindly agreed to let us do that and did a video for us. 

These issues are still being talked about in this country, too, especially in areas where people are paranoid and ignorant. But you can’t let prejudice dictate life.

It’s a tough subject in these divisive times. But I feel like in a sense, we’re all immigrants….We need a considerate, welcoming debate…we’re all trying our best.

I know EMF has a history of doing samples, and I’m curious about brought you into that whole idea? I grew up with “Unbelievable.” It was a staple in high school. What sparked the idea to use the Andrew Dice Clay voice?

That’s a good story! That IS Andrew Dice Clay. Well,  funnily enough…the Andrew Dice Clay record, was put out by Def Jam. “There’s this sort of misogynistic comedian like…” But there’s a sense that there’s some irony in there. Well – I’m not sure in retrospect whether that was. But but anyway, we, we, we sampled it and tried to clear it through his, you know, like contacting the Def Jam offices – and, you know, honestly, I think they get lost. This was back in the day of faxes, there were no phones or emails. We were trying to call them and nothing.  Well, we just happened to be in Los Angeles, talking to the record company – when record companies were wooing us. Well, we went into the Rainbow Room, the bar on Sunset Boulevard…and there was Rick Rubin.

Oh my god!

Yeah! I just went up to him and I said, “Hi, Rick. EMF’s a great fan of your work, and we just sampled Andrew Dice Clay. We can’t seem to get to to your office to clear it. And he’s like, “Fax me in the morning and I’ll clear it.” So it was like the stars aligning. Things were meant to be! He kindly cleared the sample for us, and off we went.

It’s a whole lifetime of synchronicities. What would you like to do in forthcoming albums? Where are you at creatively?

Well, James the singer and I always had great chemistry. We’ve always made music. Even in the time when we were being quiet and not necessarily playing or doing recordings, you know, we would get together occasionally and write a song, just because we love writing songs together. The last couple of years have been amazing because we thought, well, we’re going to write songs together and we’re going to put them out….I feel like it’s the band’s in a really good place and we’re enjoying what we’re doing so much. And long may it continue, until we’re on stage with our walking sticks!

It’s a great attitude.

Funny thing I talk about walking sticks, but I got a really bad back…slipped disc. But when I go out on stage, it’s like I don’t feel it at all. It’s like the most wonderful cue of an adrenaline. Wonderful thing. It’s like the years peel away, and there we are leaping around the stage again. I’ve been very fortunate along the way. I made a bit of money, but I think you have to follow your heart. It’s a bit of an old cliche, isn’t it?

You were given a very incredible gift with, with “Unbelievable,” because that has allowed you to have that freedom do things that you care about. I know there’s a lot of pressure with labels to get artists to keep churning out stuff.  When you force that, you know, you lose the art or artistry in it.

I think it’s really important that you hold fast to your principles and write music that you feel is good, instead of just dashing it off to appease somebody else. Because you don’t please yourself, and if you jump for these other people who tell you what to think, then everybody suffers.

Die Heavy Metal-Band WALLOP hat einen Labeldeal bei MDD Records unterschrieben. Im Zuge dessen werden die Deutschen aus Offenbach rund um Drummer Stefan Arnold (Ex-Grave Digger) ihr neues Album “Hell On Wheels” veröffentlichen. Es ist nach “Metallic Alps” (1985) und “Alps on Fire” (2020) das dritte Album der Band. Release-Termin ist der 11. Juli 2024. Mit “American440” gibt es nun den ersten Vorab-Track zu hören.

Die Death Metal / Grindcore-Band I, CURSED hat nach “Blades” mit “Sorrower” eine zweite Single ihrer kommenden EP “Death Holograms” veröffentlicht. Es ist nach einer Doppel-Single Ende 2023 ein weiterer Release des finnischen Duos, welches aus Sänger Eero Haula (OCEANWAKE) sowie Gitarrist und Bassist Ville-Veikko Laaksonen (ATLASES, MARTO) besteht.

“Death Holograms” wurde von Jerkka Perälä bei Soft Neon Audiovisual produziert und wird am 17. Juli 2024 via Inverse Records und Meara Music erscheinen.

Die Hard Rock-Band LANSDOWNE hat mit “Oxygen” ein neues Musikvideo geteilt. Das Stück ist zugleich dem kommenden, noch unbetitelten Studioalbum entnommen, das die Formation noch 2024 via AFM Records veröffentlichen will.

Noch im Herbst 2024 hatte man mit  “Bury Me” einen neuen Song als Audiostream veröffentlicht. Das Stück steht wie die vorausgegangene Single “Safeword” auf allen gängigen Streaming-Portalen auf Abruf bereit. Zum Track äußert sich die Gruppe wie folgt:
