Mit “Tonight We Rock” präsentiert die Hard Rock-Band VICTORY einen weiteren Song ihres neuen Albums “Circle Of Life”.

Er folgt auf die vierte Single “Virtual Sin“, Ende Juni stellten VICTORY ein Video zu “American Girl” vor. Schon im Mai teilte die Band ein Musikvideo zu “Count On Me”. Zum Track äußert sich Gitarrist Herman Frank:

„Der Titel gibt gleich die Marschrichtung vor, die für unsere Shows generell gilt: Bei Victory geht es voll zur Sache! [D]ie Polizei [würde raten]: Beim Hören während der Fahrt bitte den Sicherheitsgurt nicht […] vergessen!“

“Circle Of Life” ist das 14. Studioalbum der Formation und erschien am 13. September 2024 via AFM Records. Aufgenommen wurde die Platte im “Horus Sound Studio” in Hannover, den Mix übernahm Arne Neurand.

Ab September sind VICTORY dann auf Tour, um das neue Material auch live vorzustellen:

Ein Hoch auf die Freundschaft: Schon der Opener „Ties“ setzt seine Prioritäten richtig. Gerade die zwischenmenschlichen Bande sind es doch, die den harten Alltag letzten Endes erträglich machen. Dass ANCHORAGE also eben jene zum Auftakt in den Fokus rücken, werten wir als Botschaft: Das Debütalbum der Österreicher ist das Resultat einer geteilten Leidenschaft, die auch in kompakten 28 Minuten ihre Wirkung nicht verfehlt.

Seinen Metalcore versteht das Quartett dabei relativ klassisch, indem abwechslungsreiche Riff- und Gitarrenarbeit die zentrale Säule des Bandsounds darstellen. Starke Melodien, giftige Shouts von Fronter Iulian und die volle wie charismatische Singstimme Christoph Wiesingers komplettieren das Basis-Repertoire, mit welchem ANCHORAGE eine breite stilistische Bandbreite abdecken.

Kompakt und kurzweilig: ANCHORAGE setzen auf Abwechslung
Ohne Groove und gehörig Drive kommt eigentlich keines der acht Stücke aus, welche abseits obligatorischer Breaks aber auch den Blick über den Tellerrand wagen. So prescht der catchy Titeltrack mit seinen Punk-Rock-Vibes ungehalten nach vorne, bevor in der DEAD LIKE JULIET-Kollaboration „Build And Destroy“ ein paar feinfühlige Leads den Song ausschmücken.

Ziehen ANCHORAGE den Härtegrad an, blitzt in Stücken wie „Overthrow“ zeitweise ein Hauch POLARIS hindurch, während LANDMVRKS nicht nur in „Dying For Perfection“ ihre Spuren hinterlassen haben. „Suffering“ schließlich nutzt ähnliches Vokabular, wie es THE GHOST INSIDE früher für ihre melodisch-treibenden Kompositionen gerne getan haben.

Dass oftmals populäre Referenzen nicht allzu weit entfernt liegen, schmälert die Freude an „Uncontrolled“ jedoch keineswegs, schließlich ist dank der kurzen Laufzeit in Verbindung mit dem variablen Songwriting Kurzweiligkeit garantiert. Spaßig, schnörkellos und gut geschrieben – da pfeifen wir doch gerne auf die Innovation.

Das nenne ich jetzt wirklich mal amtlich stabil, denn nach ihrem fetten Debüt „Greed“ im vorigen Jahr, legt die Leipziger „Super-Crossover-Formation“ TOTL XS CTRL gleich noch eine EP nach! Und diese hat es in sich, denn kein geringerer als Roger Baptist alias Käpt’n RUMMELSNUFF ist hier bei zwei der insgesamt vier Tracks als dominierender Interpret dabei! Der Meister der derben Strommusik bekommt durch die Ex-THINK ABOUT MUTATION-Veteranen endlich auch mal wieder massive Stromgitarren-Unterstützung und somit stellt „Baptist“ eine Befruchtung für beide Seiten gleichzeitig dar. Darüber hinaus würde ich die Gesangsleistung vom Käpt’n bei „Niemand“ und „Korrekt“ als die seit langem gelungenste Arbeit in Ausführung und Produktion bezeichnen, da ich so einiges in letzter Zeit von RUMMELSNUFF doch arg mit aller Macht übereinander gepresst empfand, ohne dem Ganzen natürlich seinen wunderbar urigen Charme absprechen zu wollen. Ebenso gab es auf „Greed“ schon richtig halsbrecherische Bass-Riffs von Rajko Gohlke zu bestaunen und auch für „Baptist“ sind ihm jetzt so einige überaus originelle eingefallen! Von der Geschwindigkeit her sind alle vier Tracks zwar eher im Mid-Tempo-Bereich angesiedelt, wie es Ausschläge in Richtung Doom und Psychedelic gibt, jedoch insgesamt immer noch im Tech Metal Core verortet sind. „Isolation“ und „Liebe“ sind dann regelrechte Riff-Monster im abwechslungsreich-verschachtelten Arrangement geworden und bei letzteren trifft zwischenzeitlich sogar französische Filmmusik auf DAF. Außerdem dürfte es interessant werden, ob die Hinwendung zum deutschsprachigen Gesang durch Stewa und Joey A. Vaising nur temporär oder nachhaltig ist. Diese absolut brachial-gelungene EP macht auf jeden Fall Lust auf noch kommendes Material, wenn schon eine Live-Präsentation auf Grund der anderweitigen Verpflichtungen der einzelnen Musiker (KNORKATOR, FREUNDE DER ITALIENISCHEN OPER, MYRA) eher fraglich ist. Bis dahin holt Euch eine der auf 300 schwarzen Exemplare (100 Stück im goldenen Vinyl gibt es nur direkt über das Label oder der Band) von „Baptist“ im handlichen 10“-Format oder als Download bei Bandcamp und schaut unbedingt das aufwendige Video zu „Niemand“ auf YouTube an! Die Doom-Death Metal-Band GRAIN OF PAIN hat einen Labeldeal bei Noble Demon unterschrieben. Im Zuge dessen hat das von Timo Solonen (INFIRMUM) ins Leben gerufene Projekt mit “The Moon Lights The Way” ein neues und erstes Album veröffentlicht. Zum Release gab es ein Musikvideo zum Song “Beneath” bei YouTube, jetzt folgt das Lyric-Video “The Witch” nach.

Weitere Mitstreiter des Finnen sind Gitarrist Juho Räihä (BEFORE THE DAWN, SWALLOW THE SUN, GLORIA MORTI), Bassist Lars Eikind (WINDS, Ex-BEFORE THE DAWN), Drummer Juuso Raatikainen (SWALLOW THE SUN, HEDONIHIL), Sängerin Sini Pajunen und Sänger Taka Eliel (INFIRMUM).

Die Melodic Metal-Band NEPTUNE hat einen Labeldeal bei Pride & Joy Music unterschrieben. Im Zuge dessen werden die Schweden ihr neues Album “End Of Time” veröffentlichen. Es ist nach “Northern Steel” (2020) das zweite Album der Band, deren Ursprung bis in die 80er-Jahre zurückreicht.

Die israelische Doom / Death Metal-Band DEFILED EMBRACE hat mit “The Nether Earth” ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist nach “Whispers of the Forest” (2022) das zweite Album des Solo-Projekts von Matan Kedar (EDELLOM, SREFA).

“The Nether Earth” wurde von Ran Reihany gemixt und gemastert und mit einem Cover-Artwork von Daniel Kitchka ausgestattet. Release-Termin ist der 6. September 2024 via Another Side Records. Vorab gibt es den Track “Mausoleum” zu hören. Der Song beschreibt den Trauerprozess eines Mannes, der seine Lebensgefährtin verloren hat, von dem Leid, ihr beim Sterben zuzusehen, über das Vermissen ihrer Liebe und warmen Berührung bis hin zu dem Drang, ihr zu gedenken.

SHADE OF SORROW started in 2017 when founder Mika Kankainen, former drummer of Soul Terror and Warceremony, was writing material and playing all the instruments himself, including drums, bass, guitar, keyboard, while also handling vocals thus showcasing his immense talent and virtuosity. These songs started to catch the attention of other musicians and producers who in 2020 encouraged Mika to deliver on his promise and he began to record the material to share with the world. A year later digital singles and accompanying music videos started to premiere, each self-released, including “No Return” and “Fabricated Hope“, followed by “Meteor” in 2022 which gained further attention including that of M-Theory Audio, who signed SHADE OF SORROW in 2023.

Es ist das vierte Album des von Babis Kaisas geführten Projekts, an dem eine Reihe von Gastsängern mitgewirkt haben: etwa David Reece (IRON ALLIES, Ex-ACCEPT), IAN PARRY (ELEGY) oder Leonel Silva (MINDFEEDER, TIMESCALE).

RANDALE, die Bielefelder Rockmusiker für Kinder, veröffentlichen quasi zum Summer Breeze Open Air, bei dem sie auch auftreten, ihr neues Album „Feuerkäfer“. Heute erscheint mit „Hände hoch“ der erste Vorbote aus dem Album. „Hände hoch, das ist ein Punküberfall“, der Opener in bewährter Punkrock-Manier. Tür auf, Motor an – die Band brettert los. Die Progressive / Post-Metal-Band EVA CAN´T hat mit “La Forca (Ghiacci Australi II)” ein Lyric-Video ihres kommenden Albums “Emisferi” veröffentlicht. Es ist das fünfte Album der Italiener aus Bologna und soll im 20. September 2024 via My Kingdom Music erscheinen. Das Cover-Artwork stammt von Helios Pu.

“Es ist ein Konzeptalbum, das von einer Reise von Pol zu Pol entlang eines völlig unbewohnten und unbewohnbaren Planeten Erde handelt”, erklärt die Band. “Die Platte ist in zwei Abschnitte (Süd- und Nordhalbkugel) und jeweils in zwei weitere Unterabschnitte (Land und Wasser) unterteilt. Jeder dieser vier Teile wurde in einem anderen Stil geschrieben, zu verschiedenen Zeiten und an verschiedenen Orten aufgenommen, und jeder hat seinen eigenen spezifischen und raffinierten Klang.”

Italy’s Terminal Serious, the brainchild of Florence musician Luigi Buonaiuto, combines post-punk and darkwave, delving into themes of love, loneliness, and even the peculiar love of loneliness. Buonaiuto has a knack for pounding basslines and guitars that often need just two strings to whip up those screeching riffs or melodies, while his voice adds the final touch to the band’s dark, stark vibe.

The ten tracks on Fear and Cure (out now via Swiss Dark Nights) take a deep dive into the human condition, exploring how we navigate our fears and seek remedies. It’s like peeking into lives frozen by anxiety and those fighting to break free, embarking on a journey toward the hidden garden within each of us, ready to bloom from the underground. The album brings back the spirit of early gloomy alt-rock with its deep voice, sharp guitars, gritty riffs, and synth patterns. Arrangements steeped in a smoky, hopeless mood, combined with deep bass textures, catchy melodies, and perfect harmonies, support lyrics that tackle significant themes. It’s a delightful blend of gritty licks and electronic beats, delivering a tight, contemporary darkwave sound with impeccable rhythms. Fans of ACTORS, The Damned, and Twin Tribes will find a kindred spirit in Terminal Serious.

Shake the Brain depicts a couple in crisis, trying to revive their relationship through unconventional sexual practices. The raw energy and desperate lyrics capture the futility and strain of their efforts. Walk On A Roof tells the story of a boy, not yet of age, locked up in prison for an unknown reason. The track’s intense beats and haunting melodies reflect the boy’s confusion and isolation.

Burdened with Usery depicts a woman fleeing from an unresponsive lover who struggles to express himself. Despite his desire to act, he fails, leading to the realization that demanding love can be a grave mistake. Ultimately, she runs away, hesitating briefly before deciding to leave him behind for good. Metamorphosis portrays a person who wakes up not remembering the previous night, only to realize something disturbing has happened that will forever transform their life. The unsettling rhythms and eerie synths perfectly match the song’s theme of irreversible change. Necklace uses the metaphor of a tightening necklace to describe depressive syndrome. The somber tones and gripping lyrics convey the suffocating nature of depression.

Three Months is a poignant love song about separation and the doubts that follow a crucial decision. The melancholic guitars and heartfelt vocals evoke the lingering pain of a failed romance. Anyway centers on a twenty-year-old girl who, despite discovering she is ill, refuses to give up on love. The song’s hopeful yet bittersweet melodies capture her resilience and longing. Taurus Goes On The Swing follows a man who, unable to fit into conventional society, chooses freedom over comfort, even if it means living in hardship. The track’s rebellious spirit and gritty riffs celebrate his unyielding independence. The album closes with Secret Garden: the realization and understanding that things have improved, using the metaphor of a secret garden blooming from underground to symbolize growth and positive change emerging from hidden or difficult places.

Fear And Cure by Terminal Serious

Terminal Serious emerged in 2021 with the LP Love Was Lies (Meuse Music Records, vinyl), a darkwave album exploring love, loneliness, and the love of loneliness. The band caught broader attention with their singles Lamb and Disorder, the latter accompanied by a stunning video directed by Elio De Filippo from Studio Nubes.

In 2022, they self-released an EP titled Gift for You (CD), featuring the single Nobody Sees Us and a fantastic collaboration with ÇaÄ�la Güleray from Ductape. By November 2023, Terminal Serious partnered with the Swiss Dark Night label, which re-released Love Was Lies on CD, setting the stage for their upcoming album Fear and Cure due in 2024.

As we speak, Terminal Serious is busy perfecting their live show and planning their first tour. They might just be the melodic balm for your existential musings.

DREAM EVIL kehren sieben Jahre nach “SIX” (2017) mit einem neuen Studioalbum zurück: Die nunmehr siebte Platte trägt den Titel “Metal Gods”. Mit einem Video zu “Fight In The Night” haben DREAM EVIL nun einen weiteren Song des Albums veröffentlicht.

Inzwischen kann man sich weitere Vorab-Songs anhören; einen Clip zu “Chosen Force” gibt es via YouTube, auch das Video zum Titelstück kann man sich bei YouTube ansehen.

Die Schweden haben zu “Metal Gods” Folgendes zu sagen:

“DREAM EVIL sind endlich zurück! Es ist sieben Jahre her, dass wir unser letztes Album SIX veröffentlicht haben, also sind wir begeistert, dass wir jetzt mit voller Kraft zurückkehren! Das Warten sollte für niemanden umsonst gewesen sein, da wir mit dem Ergebnis aller Tracks auf Metal Gods äußerst zufrieden sind. Es ist ein lautes und klares Statement für DREAM EVIL und eine respektvolle Verbeugung vor unseren Einflüssen sowie der traditionellen melodischen Heavy Metal Bewegung im Allgemeinen. Wir hoffen, ihr werdet es genauso genießen wie wir!”

Aufgenommen und gemischt wurde “Metal Gods” von Gitarrist Fredrik Nordström. Das Album enthält auch einige Gastauftritte von Jonathan Thorpenberg (THE UNGUIDED), Tommy Johansson (MAJESTICA) und Christopher Amott (ex-DARK TRANQUILLITY).

Erscheinen wird “Metal Gods” am 26. Juli 2024 via Century Media auf CD, Vinyl sowie digital.

Trit95, emerging from the humble land of Santee, California, is a bedroom pop sorcerer conjuring dreamy lo-fi melodic soundscapes that feel like a portal to a parallel world hued in neons, pastels, and Kodachrome. Since 2017, Tristan Lilyquist, the alchemist behind the synths, has been conjuring cotton candy synthpop magic right from his own cozy hideaway. Imagine thirteen tracks of hazy, nostalgic tunes—like stumbling upon a mixtape from your wonderfully misspent youth. It’s part twee-pop, part soul-baring confession, and all-around charm, like finding out your quirky next-door neighbor is a secret musical genius, spinning gold out of daydreams and night-time musings. Enthusiasts of diverse artists across decades and generations, including Panda Bear, Parade Ground, OMD, Early Depeche Mode, Black Marble, Animal Collective, Atlas Sound, Dan Deacon, and Neon Indian, will find an immediate affinity with this collection.

The album opens with Blood Wears Thin, a haunting echo of relationships that ebb and flow, like the tide retreating on a foggy beach. This track carries the weight of past connections, dissolving into a misty memory, reminding us of the fragile nature of human bonds.

The second track, and standout of the album Candy, is a bittersweet confection of dreamy synths, bit pop boops, soft melodies, and catchy hooks. Chain Of Events dives into a poignant series of interconnected moments, each one leading to the next like a delicate domino effect. It’s a contemplative piece, urging us to reflect on the ripple effects of our actions in the vast ocean of existence. Forever resonates with the wistful yearning of promises made and time slipping through our fingers. It’s the soundtrack of late-night Tumblr scrolls, where dreams of eternity clash with the reality of fleeting moments, all wrapped in a DIY aesthetic.

Guardian Angel hovers with an ethereal presence, offering solace in times of turmoil. This track is like a whispered prayer on a rainy day, providing a comforting embrace as it echoes through the chambers of our hearts. New Surroundings feels like opening a fresh chapter, yet with the ghostly remnants of the past lingering at the edges. It’s a strange, evocative tune that celebrates the unknown while mourning what’s been left behind. No Name drifts through the air like the perfume of your long-gone grandmother, capturing the essence of anonymity and the beauty found in the unnoticed. This track is a wistful nod to those moments and people who pass through our lives like shadows.

Photograph of Yesterday is an echoing reflection of the past, reminding us of the beauty and sadness intertwined in the snapshots of our lives. Plastic Toy plays with the bittersweet contrast between childhood innocence and the strange reality of growing up.  Rain Coated Lovers waltzes through the mist; an evocative, echoing ballad.

Ruby shines with a reflective glow and the echoing charm of a gem hidden away, only to be rediscovered and cherished anew. The forlorn Tape rewinds the years, playing back memories with a nostalgic hiss and pop of the analogue days, where each recorded moment carried a charming imperfection, echoing the imperfect beauty of our past.

The album finishing with Wine pours out a rich blend of wistfulness and reflection, like a vintage Tumblr post full of poignant reflections. It’s a strange, echoing melody that swirls through the air, leaving behind the bittersweet aftertaste of times gone by.

Los Angeles industrial trio Fact Pattern has unleashed a new, blistering track and video. With No Disguise, the third offering from the upcoming LP The Same Outcome (Re:Mission Entertainment), envisions a dark future dominated by revenge.

The song paints a grim picture of a post-apocalyptic Earth where people turn to violence, choosing who deserves elimination. In this world, life is taken without pretense, and it’s filled with wandering and theft. The track serves as a caution against trusting falsehoods, portraying everything as toxic and harmful. With No Disguise is an unflinching tale of settling scores with authoritarian figures who have stripped everything away, delivering a powerful message of retribution.

Influenced by NIN, Skinny Puppy, and Type O Negative, the trio—Flux (vocals, guitars, keys, programming), Jack Lowd (bass, vocals), and Corey Hirsch (drums)—combines heavy guitars, rhythmic drumming, and bass with intense, metallic samples that create a hauntingly mechanical vibe.

The DIY video paints a rather chilling picture, following a woman navigating the labyrinth of a dark city at night, taking no prisoners. She’s not messing around—because in this dog-eat-dog world, playfulness equates to peril. This intense scenario channels the raw power and emotion that define Fact Pattern’s sound, all served up with a hearty helping of unfiltered authenticity. It’s a vivid reminder of the primal instincts at play in their music, delivered with a wink and a nod to the gritty reality of urban survival.

Fact Pattern was born in the early 2010s from the creative mind of Ian Flux, has gone through several transformations. Their 2017 EP Structures marked the beginning, but it was their 2019 full-length debut Fallen Language that truly defined their sound and lineup.

Nach ihrem „Bleed Out“-Album im vorigen Jahr, füttern die niederländische Gothic Symphonic Metal-Institution WITHIN TEMPTATION die Vorfreude auf ihre kommende Konzerte im Herbst mit einem Live-Album an, welches im Rahmen ihrer „Worlds Collide“-Tour 2022 mitgeschnitten wurde. Die insgesamt 14 Titel liefern dabei den Beweis, dass auch Live die Stimme von Sharon den Adel das hält, was die Alben versprechen! Dies ist ja leider bei nicht allen Frontdamen dieses Genres so, aber WITHIN TEMPTATION sind ja inzwischen eh deutlich düsterer und alternativer unterwegs. Gleich das martialische Intro gibt den Weg vor, den die etwas neuere musikalische Ausrichtung der Band mit dem Album „Resist“ beschritt und schon die dunklen Schatten der aktuellen Weltlage vornweg nahm. Sehr gut finde ich übrigens, dass die reichlichen Ansagen von Sharon den Adel, wie auch die frenetischen Reaktionen des Publikums nicht ausgeblendet werden, was ja eigentlich auch die eigentliche Atmosphäre von Live-Alben ausmacht. Die Titelauswahl des Live-Sets besteht aus Songs des damals aktuelle „Resist“-Album und dem seiner Zeit noch nicht veröffentlichten „Bleed Out“-Werk, wie natürlich ebenso ihren großen Hits. Höhepunkt darunter ist sicherlich das intensive Duett von Sharon den Adel mit Amy Lee von EVANESCENCE, mit denen WITHIN TEMPTATION damals zusammen auf Tour waren. „Worlds Collide Tour, Live in Amsterdam“ ist ein dynamisch-mitreißendes Live-Album, welches neben der regulären Konfiguration auf CD und Vinyl, auch als DVD/Blu-Ray-Set veröffentlicht wird. PS: Verwunderlich für mich nur, das DEPECHE MODE sich diesen inzwischen schon fast normalen Luxus zu ihrer „Memento Mori“-Tour angeblich nicht mehr leisten können, WITHIN TEMPTATION in bester Qualität jedoch schon… (Marco Fiebag)

Die Sludge / Doom Metal-Band EARTH SHIP hat mit “Ghost Town” eine erste Single ihres kommenden Albums “Soar” veröffentlicht. Es ist das sechste Album der aus Berlin stammenden Band, deren Grundgerüst das Ehepaar Jan und Sabine Oberg (jeweils GRIN, SLOWSHINE) bildet. Als Drummer stand diesmal André Klein (SLOWSHINE) zur Verfügung.

“Soar” wurde erneut von Gitarrist und Sänger Jan Oberg in dessen Hidden Planet Studio produziert und wird am 9. August 2024 via The Lasting Dose Records erscheinen. Das Cover-Artwork stammt von Benedikt Demmer.
