Die Epic Black Metal-Band DEWFALL hat mit “Landhaskur” ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist das dritte Album der Italiener und erzählt den vergessenen Mythos der Winnili (das alte Volk, das als Langobarden bekannt ist) und die atavistischen heidnischen Kulte und Traditionen, die sie während ihres 200-jährigen Reiches an den Toren des Mittelalters im Italienischen Land, während seiner scheinbar dunkelsten historischen Periode, einführten.

“Landhaskur” wurde gemeinsam mit Alessandro Memmi im Spring Reverb Studio in Bari aufgenommen, von Christopher Fielding gemixt und von Herbrand Larsen gemastert. Das Cover-Artwork entstammt der Feder von Khaos Diktator Design. Release-Termin ist der 29. November 2024 via Naturmacht Productions.

Das ROCK HARD FESTIVAL 2025 findet am 7. und 8. Juni 2025  wieder im Amphitheater Gelsenkirchen stattfinden. heute wurden weitere Bands bekannt gegeben, die an Pfingsten in Gelsenkirchen auftreten: W.A.S.P., DEATH ANGEL, MUNICIPAL WASTE, VICTORY, THE CRYPT und HIRAES.

Lange war nicht klar, ob das Open Air 2025 am gewohnten Ort durchgeführt werden kann, die Veranstalter schrieben dazu im September 2024:

Damit ist eine monatelange Hängepartie um ein neues Camping-Gelände in Fußreichweite beendet, da das alte Camping-Gelände den Vorbereitungen für die Internationale Gartenausstellung 2027 (IGA) zum Opfer gefallen ist. Wir bedanken uns bei allen Kräften, die sich für eine adäquate Weiterführung in Gelsenkirchen eingesetzt haben. Nun gilt es, die verlorene Zeit aufzuholen und die beste „Familienfeier” aller Zeiten auf den Weg zu bringen! Ab jetzt können wir endlich Vollgas geben und werden Euch bald die ersten Bands präsentieren und dann auch mit dem Vorverkauf starten!

Hamburg quartet Billy Zach returns with a new single, “Russian Dolls,” lifted from their upcoming EP, Interferer. Named after singer and guitarist Max Zacherl’s former stage name, Billy Zach evokes the introspective, layered beauty of early 4AD releases, with a sound that mingles the ethereal with the visceral. Described as “the sandpaper of pop music,” their earlier releases—Shallow and last year’s A Momentary Bliss—laid the groundwork for their sonic evolution. But Interferer dives deeper, reaching new emotional heights.

“Russian Dolls” doesn’t unfold in a predictable pattern but rather unfurls with a growing passion that builds throughout the song. Its post-punk roots are unmistakable, nodding to the shimmering, atmospheric soundscapes of the ’80s UK scene, with influences like And Also the Trees and The Wake (UK) echoing in the delicate interplay of guitar and bass. The track opens gently but swells into a powerful crescendo as three distinct vocal lines weave through the music, interlocking and crashing together like waves against the shore. This is dreamy pop at its most intricate—wistful yet urgent, with each voice adding to the emotional elegance that if it is to be compared to sandpaper, then this erosion is like that of the currents carving out a canyon.

The video, crafted by Luca Adams and Fabienne Sklorz, unfolds in a rapid montage, each scene flickering in Super-8 and stark monochrome. It doesn’t settle, it doesn’t pause—moments flash past like fleeting memories, half-remembered dreams, or the last slideshow of a life slipping away. There’s a rush in its pacing, an urgency in its imagery, as though the camera itself is racing against time, capturing glimpses of a world that is already fading.

Each frame hits like a shutter snapping closed, searing moments into the mind before they vanish into the ether. It’s fragmented, frantic, but somehow holds the weight of something final, as though we are watching time fracture, splinter, and scatter—one last glimpse before it’s all gone.

From the very first frames of Mike Cuenca’s Watch Them Come Blood, it’s evident that we’re in for a cinematic experience that defies conventional categorization. Opening with ambiguous moans that teeter between pleasure and pain—though given the genre, we can safely lean toward the latter—the film plunges us into a hazy, sanguine tableau. The grainy film texture and saturated colors from cinematographer Jessica Gallant immediately evokes the spirit of ’80s grindhouse cinema, a deliberate aesthetic choice that sets the tone for the chaotic journey ahead.



The narrative kicks off with a group of friends executing a low-stakes heist: stealing a birthday cake from a vegan bakery. This seemingly innocuous act is intercut with vintage animation clips reminiscent of exhibits one might find at the Museum of Sex. The juxtaposition sets a quirky yet unsettling atmosphere, signaling that this road trip is anything but ordinary.

Our ensemble includes Auggie (Eric Aguilar) and Emilio (Allyn Moriyon), former band mates whose shared history adds layers to their interactions. Emilio surprises the group with a mixed version of their old music, a gesture that rekindles past dynamics and hints at unresolved tensions. The arrival of Pia (Arko Miro), a goth-leaning enigma with a penchant for The Thin Man marathons and a declared admiration for Myrna Loy, introduces a subtle undercurrent of jealousy. Flor, portrayed by Rebecca Lynne Morley and notably sporting a Bauhaus “Bela Lugosi’s Dead” t-shirt, becomes increasingly wary of Pia’s closeness to Emilio. To balance the scales, Flor invites her co-worker Gwen—a character who, by horror genre logic at this point in the narrative, could either emerge as the final girl or meet a grim fate. But to expect any predictable genre conventions from this flick would be as foolhardy as the characters in the film.

Cuenca’s script employs Tarantino-esque flashbacks to flesh out backstories, while the witty, rapid-fire dialogue echoes the relational complexities often explored in Greg Araki’s films. This stylistic melding creates a tapestry of bloody gauze that’s both familiar and refreshingly unpredictable.

As the group congregates at a dimly lit bar post-cake theft, the atmosphere shifts. The entrance of a darker clique, led by Warren (played by Cuenca himself), injects a palpable sense of foreboding. An unsettling encounter in the restroom with a perverse stranger (a cameo by drummer Victor Andrade (Aurat/Slashdance) escalates the tension. The friends, driven by a mix of curiosity and ill-advised bravado—a common catalyst in horror narratives—decide to follow the stranger and his associate, a man conspicuously carrying a parasol.

Their pursuit leads them to a gothic Victorian mansion, complete with Second Empire mansard roofs that evoke cinematic memories of Psycho and The Addams Family. Greeted by eerie hosts, they’re lured inside to discover the mansion doubles as a brothel.

The film takes a sharp turn with its first shocking demise, executed with a suddenness that would make Tobe Hooper proud. This moment catapults the story into full horror mode, but Cuenca doesn’t linger solely on gore. We cut to two new characters, Charlie and Jon, whose introspective dialogue brings a Before Sunrise quality to the narrative. This puzzling yet brief respite adds more foreboding depth to the narrative before plunging back into chaos.

Enter the Nihilists: a ragtag group of thieves comprising Camila (Lillian Solange Beaudoin), Ida (Kat Yeary), the idiosyncratic drug dealer OZ (Joey Halter), and their leader Warren. Their plan to rob the brothel introduces another layer of conflict. With a self-awareness that borders on meta-commentary, Ida describes the establishment as a place where “…people go to get fucked to death” It’s a heist within a horror, wrapped in dark comedy—a testament to Cuenca’s fearless genre-blending.

Watch Them Come Blood is, in essence, an exquisite corpse of cinema—a collaborative collage where horror, black humor, indie romance, and post-punk aesthetics coexist. The film doesn’t just pay homage to its influences; it absorbs and reinterprets them, resulting in a piece that’s as unpredictable as it is entertaining. Cuenca’s direction showcases a maturation of his craft, balancing absurdity with genuine suspense.

For those attuned to the LA post-punk scene and indie film quirks, this movie feels like a love letter—reminiscent of how Repo Man still resonates with its local audience. Yet, its appeal isn’t limited to niche circles. By embracing the chaos and refusing to be tethered to a single genre, Watch Them Come Blood stands out as a bold cinematic statement. It’s off the wall, undeniably insane, and perhaps Cuenca’s most compelling work to date.

EPICA haben einen neuen Song mit dem Titel “The Ghost In Me (Danse Macabre)” samt Musikvideo bei YouTube veröffentlicht. Das Stück ist eine Zusammenarbeit mit dem niederländischen Freizeitpartk “De Efteling”, der am 31. Oktober 2024 seine neue Attraktion “Danse Macabre” enthüllen wird. Keyboarder Coen Janssen erklärt:

„Jedes Kind in den Niederlanden weiß, wie magisch ‘de Efteling’ ist, und so eng mit dem schönsten Freizeitpark der Welt zusammenzuarbeiten, ist wirklich ein wahrgewordener Traum! Als kleiner Junge war ich sofort fasziniert von der ‘Danse Macabre’ von Saint-Saëns als Soundtrack für das Spukschloss ‘Spookslot’. Als ‘de Efteling’ dann ihre neuen Pläne für die gespenstische Attraktion ‘Danse Macabre’ ankündigte, fügten sich alle Puzzleteile sofort zusammen: Warum nicht unsere symphonische Seite mit der ‘gruseligen’ Seite des Metal verbinden und unsere Version dieses epischen klassischen Stücks machen?!? Wir sind so glücklich, dass ‘de Efteling’ unserer Vision vertraut hat und uns ihre volle Unterstützung gegeben hat, indem sie uns die Geschichte der neuen Attraktion zur Verfügung stellten, damit wir Texte schreiben konnten, die zu der fantastischen Erzählung passen, und sogar ein neues Kapitel hinzufügen konnten!“

Sick Interventions, the second single from Mackenzie Goodspeed‘s debut, May Contain Bones, strikes with a sharp critique of modern digital life. It’s the pulse of our tech-driven age—where screens flicker endlessly, memes multiply, and constant notifications gnaw at the soul. The song digs deep into the fraying fabric of individuality and human connection, where our identities are sliced, sold, and commodified. In the numbness of it all, the speaker wrestles with a stark question: What does it mean to stay human when attention is auctioned off and the mind feels manipulated?

With echoes of a bizarre fusion of Perfume Genius, Metallica, Chris Isaak, and Radiohead, Sick Interventions captures the dizzying tension of a world spinning too fast. The song’s sharp lyrics and gritty energy create a space for reflection, where the frantic rush of mass media and social addiction collide with the aching desire for something real, something still. Sick Interventions takes the bones of classic alternative and rock, layering them with intricate arrangements and a bold dose of progressive electronics. There’s a playful nod in its delivery, with Goodspeed’s signature wink ever-present.

Xavier Hamel’s brilliant video conjures an unsettling vision, where an Elmer Gantry-meets-Jim Morrison televangelist seduces the desperate and the downtrodden, reshaping their frailty into something strange and sinister. The charismatic cult leader lures the weak, molding their reality, twisting their faith until they become unrecognizable, transformed into grotesque reflections of their former selves. The visuals cut deep—sharp, bold, balancing high-concept with sly humor. Each frame drips with sleek precision, layering dark satire with surreal style.

The music fuels this warped world, a potent mix that stirs the senses and teases the mind, drawing listeners into a realm that feels at once familiar yet wildly unpredictable. It’s a blend of seriousness and self-awareness, where the absurd and the profound dance together. Reality bends, falters, and is reborn under Hamel’s direction, creating a vivid, unsettling experience that lingers long after the final frame fades from view.

Die Heavy / Stoner Rock-Band 1000MODS hat mit “Cheat Death” ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist das fünfte Album der Griechen und wird am 8. November 2024 via Ouga Booga and the Mighty Oug Recordings erscheinen.

“Im Leben zählt nur der Tod, und gerade in der Musik und der Kunst kann man das Leben nur durch den Tod verwirklichen und umgekehrt”, sagt die Band. “Aber was ist, wenn man den Tod überlistet? Was geschieht dann? Von Heraklit bis Camus, von Sokrates bis Nietzsche – manchmal müssen wir einfach unsere Einstellung zu den Dingen, zum Leben und zum Tod überdenken. Wir müssen unserem kleinen Leben einen Sinn geben, denn es interessiert niemanden. Und wir müssen die Mauern, Grenzen und Werte zerstören, um ihm einen Grund zu geben, weil es niemanden kümmert. Das ist das Leben, und das ist der Betrug am Tod.”

Das Album wurde von Matt Bayles gemixt und von Brad Boatright gemastert. Das Cover-Artwork stammt von Eva Mourtzi. THE HELLACOPTERS haben erste Details zum kommenden Album verraten: Die neue Platte trägt den Titel “Overdriver” und erscheint am 31. Januar 2025 via Nuclear Blast Records.

“Overdriver” entstand im Strawberry Studio & The Honk Palace und ist das erste Album, das  HELLACOPTERS-Frontman Nicke Andersson komplett alleine produziert hat. Das Coverartwork kommt vom deutschen Illustrator Max Löffler.

Live müssen die Schweden zur Zeit auf ein Gründungsmitglied verzichten: Gitarrist Dregen wird bis auf weiteres live von LG Valeta vertreten, Dregen verletzte sich im Sommer 2023 schwer an der Hand und ist bis heute noch nicht wieder in der Lage, Gitarre zu spielen.

Nach ihrem Studioalbum “Eyes Of Oblivion” (2022) meldet sich die Rock’n’ Roll-Band im Mai 2024 mit einer neuen Single zurück: “Stay With You” gibt es als Musikvideo bei YouTube.

TREMONTI hat mit “The End Will Show Us How” ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist das sechste Album des von Gitarrist, Sänger und Songwriter Mark Tremonti betriebenen Projekts. Produziert wurde das Album von Michael “Elvis” Baskette. Die dritte Single “One More Time” gibt jetzt einen weiteren Höreindruck der Platte.

“The End Will Show Us How” wird am 10. Januar 2025 via Napalm Records erscheinen. Vorab gibt es nach “Just Too Much” auch einen Video-Clip zu “The Mother, The Earth And I”. “Just Too Much” rufe dazu auf, immer weiter zu machen und sich gegen Widerstände durchzusetzen.

Weiterhin werden die US-Amerikaner gemeinsam mit den wieder vereinigten CREED Anfang 2025 auf Europa-Tour sein.

Wir sind uns nicht ganz sicher, ob VOLA uns in ihrer Trackliste eine versteckte Botschaft mit auf den Weg geben wollen. „I Don’t Know How We Got Here“ ließe jedenfalls entweder auf falsche Bescheidenheit oder aber echte Ratlosigkeit schließen. Dass Letzteres eigentlich nur schwer vorstellbar ist, unterstreicht „Friend Of A Phantom“ schon nach unserem ersten Aufeinandertreffen.

Das vierte Album der dänisch-schwedischen Formation ist kein bloßer Versuch ins Blaue, sondern tatsächlich von Anfang bis Ende schlüssig und dabei auch noch kompakt arrangiert. VOLA verschmelzen ihren zuletzt etablierten Mix aus modernem Prog Metal und gefühlvollem Alternative Rock in eleganter Weise, indem technische Spitzen und härtere Ausbrüche mit wundervollen, teils großen Refrains Hand in Hand gehen.

Die Klangwelten VOLAs bleiben stets greifbar und vor allem menschlich
Dass die omnipräsenten Synthesizer hier und da auch mal recht zuckrig werden können, stört daher weniger: Sie komplettieren den sanften wie berührenden Klargesang Asger Myginds, indem sie sich zart und fluffig an dessen Worte anschmiegen oder reißen uns im rastlosen „Break My Lying Tongue“ unweigerlich aus dem Sessel. Ob tanzbar oder verträumt, die Klangwelten VOLAs bleiben stets greifbar und vor allem menschlich: Verkopfte Gehirnakrobatik tauscht „Friend Of A Phantom“ gegen eine spürbar emotionale Ebene.

Während etwa in „We Will Not Disband“ Keyboarder Nicolai Mogensen im Hintergrund zwischen verspielten sowie flächigen Teppichen wechselt und die Rhythmus-Sektion etwas Djent-Groove einstreuen lässt, verleitet uns Sänger Asgar Mygind dazu, einfach für viereinhalb Minuten die Augen zu schließen und uns treiben zu lassen.

VOLA nutzen Gegensätzliches, um “Friend Of A Phantom” spannend zu halten
Obwohl VOLA mittels dieser Stilmittel ein relativ homogenes Klangbild erschaffen, bleibt „Friend Of A Phantom“ über seine volle Laufzeit spannend. Das erreicht das Quartett durch verschiedenartige Ansätze, wenn etwa das zurückgenommene „Glass Mannequin“ auf reduzierte Instrumentierung setzt, „Bleed Out“ Electronica und Gesang in ähnlicher Weise verschmelzen lässt, wie es LEPROUS gerne tun oder im fantastischen “Cannibal” ein wirklich großer Refrain durch Anders Fridéns (IN FLAMES) Screams noch mehr Biss entwickeln darf.

Harsche Vocals wie hier sind ansonsten ein enorm rares, doch dafür passend gesetztes Stilmittel, das etwa den Breakdown des erwähnten „Bleed Out“ noch ein wenig härter treffen lässt. Zumeist aber sorgen VOLA penibel dafür, die härteren Riffs von „Paper Wolf“ oder „Hollow Kid“ durch einen entsprechenden Gegenpol auszubalancieren, sei es in Form eingängiger Refrains bzw. Gesangslinien oder versöhnlich stimmender Synthesizer.

Modern Prog trifft Alternative: VOLA vermengen auf “Friend Of A Phantom” das Beste aus beiden Welten
Indem „Friend Of A Phantom” diese Kontraste so geschmackvoll vermählt, etabliert sich auch die Band endgültig in einer hochspannenden Schnittmenge: Mit einem Bein im Modern Prog und dem anderen im Alternative-Universum vereinen VOLA das Beste aus beiden Welten. Ein Glück, dass uns die Gruppe schon mit dem dritten Track versichert, dass sie noch lange nicht ans Aufhören denkt. So jedenfalls deuten wir die vermeintlich versteckte Botschaft im Titel.
