Her latest track, the dark anthem I Search For A Sign, feels like a gothic hymn hovering somewhere between the droll delivery of John Foxx and the modern sensibilities of French Police and Lebanon Hanover; unsettling yet alluring, unraveling forgotten truths and pulling listeners into a realm of dark sensuality. The stark vulnerability of existence lingers in this visceral, haunting excavation of the soul’s simplest request.

I Search For A Sign delves into the deep, aching need for connection, not confined to romantic love, but extending to the broader spectrum of human affection. It explores the raw desire for a genuine embrace—be it from a friend, a mother, a crowd, or even a fleeting moment. From its opening line, the lyrics cry out for warmth and honesty, yearning for those fleeting glimpses of tenderness that keep the soul afloat in a sea of isolation. Emotional turbulence leads one to seeks solace through love, hoping that connection will quench their pain and banish their fear. There’s a desperation here—a fear that without love’s saving grace, they might shatter beneath the weight of longing.

Night In Athens first took to composing and producing in the cramped confines of her East London flat, seeking to exorcise the restless demons that stirred during lockdown. Her debut EP, Metropolis, dropped in 2021, a brooding blend of dark electro, laced with punk, darkwave, and coldwave energy. She followed it with Crime Seen in 2022, a self-released, proto-minimal-synth mix that pulses with analogue synth-wave vibes and hints of electroclash rebellion.

In just under two years, Night In Athens has carved a path across Europe and the UK, her stage performances as visually striking as they are electrifying. She’s become a bold figure in the cold wave revival, pairing crisp, biting analogue synths with a detached, haunting vocal delivery. In her hands, minimal synth becomes something far more: a defiant, atmospheric dive into the darkest corners of sound and soul.

Die Melodic Death Metal / Thrash Metal-Band MINDREAPER hat mit “Withering Shine (…into Oblivion)” ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist nach “Human Edge (…to the Abyss)” (2012) und “Mirror Construction (…a Disordered World)” (2018) das dritte Album der Deutschen.

“Withering Shine (…into Oblivion)” wurde gemeinsam mit Andy Classen aufgenommen und gemixt und von Tue Madsen gemastert. Release-Termin ist der 2. Dezember 2024 via Death Age Records. Vorab gibt es mit “The God I Am” ein Lyric-Video.

Die Death Metal-Band THANATOS feiert mit der Compilation “Four Decades of Death” quasi posthum ihren 40. Geburtstag. Denn im Grunde haben die Niederländer ihre aktive Karriere bereits für beendet erklärt. Mit der neuen Scheibe gibt es nun aber doch noch “neues”, noch unveröffentlichtes Material sowie eine Bonus-DVD, auf welcher das letzte Konzert der Band zu sehen ist: aufgenommen beim Baroeg Open Air Festival in Rotterdam am 10. September 2022.

“Four Decades of Death” wurde mit einem Cover-Artwork von Toni Hietomaa ausgestattet und wird am 15. November 2024 via Agonia Records erscheinen. Vorab gibt es nach dem Lyric-Video zu “Putrid Existence” mit “Global Purification” ein Live-Video.

Die Psychedelic / Neo-Krautrock-Band ZEMENT hat mit “Move/Procession” den Opener ihres kommenden Albums “Passagen” veröffentlicht.

“Da ‚Passagen‘ die Geschichte einer Person erzählt, die sich auf eine Reise begibt, um ein neues Selbst zu entdecken, neue Orte zu erforschen und eine neue Utopie im Leben zu finden, markiert die erste Single ‚Move/Procession‘ – die auch als Opener des Albums dient – den Startpunkt dieser Reise”, erklärt die Band.

Es ist das vierte Album des süddeutschen Duos, welches aus Christian Büdel (Drums, Percussion) und Philipp Hager (Guitars, Synths, Drummachines, Effects, Flutes) besteht.

“Passagen” wurde gemeinsam mit Florian Helleken bei Hersbrooklyn Recordings aufgenommen, von Lolo Blümler in den Iron Bar Studios gemixt und von Chris Hielscher bei Subsounddistortion gemastert. Release-Termin ist der 14. Februar 2025 via Crazysane Records.

“Your Heaven, My Hell. Mein Leben, Heavy Metal und wie das alles passieren konnte” ist der Titel der Autobiografie von KREATOR-Sänger Mille Petrozza. Das Buch erscheint am 2. Mai 2025 im Ullstein Verlag.

Der Klappentext:

Ruhrgebiet, in den Siebzigerjahren: Mille Petrozza wächst als Sohn einer Malocherfamilie im Essener Stadtteil Altenessen auf. Die Mutter DDR-Geflüchtete, der Vater Gastarbeiter aus Kalabrien, er arbeitet unter Tage. Im multikulturellen Schmelztiegel des Potts treffen die Subkulturen der damaligen Zeit auf strukturellen Wandel: Zechensterben, Gewalt, Alkoholismus, Pattexschnüffeln. Das Dresdner Post Grunge Noise Rock-Duo TRIGGER KID AND THE ENDING MAN ist inzwischen mit ihrem zweiten Album zum Trio angewachsen, was einen deutlich hörbaren Zugewinn bedeutet. Neben dem gewohnt druckvollen Bass und Drums sorgen nun auch Gitarre + Synthesizer für eine ordentlich Portion Psych Punk bzw. leicht spacige Note. Die 9 neuen Songs klingen in meinen Ohren jetzt wie eine fiebrige Mischung aus THE JESUS LIZARD und MAN OR ASTROMAN?, die einerseits härter, aber anderseits auch verspielter und melodischer aus den Boxen rollt. Bestes Beispiel für dieses Wechselbad zwischen den einzelnen Polen ist „Innocent“, welches mit seiner arabischen Tonfolge zwischen den wie durch Handbremse angezogenen Riff-Gewitter irrlichtert oder das abschließend galoppierende „Can“ mit zusätzlicher Surf-Atmosphäre. Passend zum erweiterten giftigen Sound auf „Gods Ape Hunting“ das benzinfarbene transparente Vinyl, welches hervorragend gepresst ist und ebenso klingt! Leider diesmal ohne Download-Code, was jedoch keineswegs den fulminanten Gesamteindruck des Albums schmälert und jenes immer wieder zum umdrehen auf dem Dreher animiert. Sieht also fast danach aus, dass es „Gods Ape Hunting“ weit vorn in meine Top-Liste des Jahres schaffen könnte! (Marco Fiebag)

Kansas City’s REVISER plunges headlong into the eerie with Darksiders, a pulse-quickening cry for those who embrace the outsider’s path. DARKSIDERS by REVISER

In the dead of winter 2023, REVISER emerged from the eerie quiet of Kansas City’s forgotten corners, a collaborative force that dragged the past into sharp focus with renewed ferocity. Their songs pulse with the tension of power—internal battles and external forces—each note grappling with struggle. The project hums with the deep, resonant baritone of Krysztof Nemeth, his guitar and vocals shaped by the dark energy that once drove Emmaline Twist. Alongside him, Dedric Moore, hailing from Kansas City’s electro-dance outfit Monta, wields the second guitar with a rhythmic intensity.

Krysztof’s programming threads post-punk’s angular guitars with shoegaze’s shimmering crescendos, while the menacing hum of synths and the relentless stomp of drum machines add layers of urgency. Together, they create a sound that thrums with raw power and eerie allure—a collision of past and future, as the band marches through Kansas City’s ghostly landscape, each chord cutting through the haze, pushing toward a future both uncertain and irresistible.

THE GATES OF SLUMBER wurden 1998 von Karl Simon gegründet. Im Jahr 2014, nach dem Tod des Bassisten Jason McCash, löste Simon die Band auf.  2020 holte das HELL OVER HAMMABURG Festival die Band zurück auf die Bühne, neben Simon gehören die ursprünglichen Mitglied Chuck Brown am Schlagzeug und Steve Janiak am Bass wieder zur Band.

The late French philosopher Jean Baudrillard, with the precision of a prophet, warned of a world where reality slips away beneath the weight of its own reflection. He spoke of “hyperreality,” a state where symbols, screens, and simulations—once mere mirrors of the world—become more meaningful than the tangible world itself. It is a world of glossy facades, where media images and manufactured moments claim the spotlight, leaving the real behind, ignored in the wings.

Baudrillard’s notion of “simulacra” painted a picture of a society obsessed with replicas, where authentic originals no longer matter. Branding is the most glaring offender—companies no longer sell products, but fantasies, ideas spun from thin air. The distance between what is real and what is perceived grows wider with every click, every ad.

He warned, too, of the peril that comes when individuals “brand” their own lives, crafting online personas that look more like advertisements than lived experience. As digital existence takes over, the lines blur between the self and the screen. Genuine human connection is filtered, mediated, and finally eroded, leaving behind a culture steeped in superficiality, where true authenticity is the thing that has all but disappeared.

Louisville Kentucky’s Charm School is igniting our ears with a caustic post-punk single: Crime Time, and they aren’t joking around.  This isn’t even their first song about Baudrillard! Their previous EP, Finite Jest, also touched upon these societal themes with impressive insight and depth. The philosopher might have passed nearly two decades ago, but Charm School has a lot to add to the conversation…and with the brilliant Crime Time, they deliver it with gusto.

Andrew Rinehart, born Andrew Sellers, once known for his folk-laden lyricism and his work with Bonnie “Prince” Billy, now charges into a far rougher, razor-edged territory, trading gentle strumming for snarling riffs. It’s a bold, blistering shift, shedding skin and form to embrace the ferocity of punk and hardcore, a sound soaked in adrenaline. Gone are the quiet musings, replaced by a raw, unrelenting energy that pulses with purpose.

This track bursts forth with lo-fi grit, howling with urgency. It calls to mind the chaotic brilliance of The Fall, the jagged edges of Magazine, and the brutal beauty of The Birthday Party. Screaming vocals cut through the static, carrying a political fervor that feels both reckless and righteous. There’s a kindred spirit here, too, with the Mekons, the sound swirling like a storm, messy and magnificent. Rinehart stands unflinching in this skin, throwing caution and convention to the wind, daring the world to keep up with the noise.

VENAMORIS, das Ambient-Projekt Paula and Dave Lombardo, haben einen Plattenvertrag bei Ipecac Recordings unterschrieben, bei dem Label soll in Kürze das zweite Album erscheinen.

Nun hat das Duo den Song “Spiderweb” veröffentlicht, einen zweiten Vorab-Track des kommenden, noch unbetitelten Albums.  Vorab teilten VENAMORIS Ende September die Single “In The Shadows” bei YouTube.

„In The Shadows’ ist ein Song, der aus echten Gefühlen entstanden ist“, erzählt Paula Lombardo. „Die pulsierenden Trommeln erinnern an einen Marsch,  wenn die innere Unruhe ganz nah ist. Es ist ein Aufruf zur Selbstakzeptanz in einem Leben, das auch mal schwer sein kann.

Die Death Metal-Band PAGANIZER hat nach dem Opener “Life of Decay“, dem Titeltrack, “World Scythe” und “Necromonolithic” mit “Fare Thee Well (Burn In Hell)” einen weiteren Track ihres kommenden Albums “Flesh Requiem” veröffentlicht. Es ist das 13. Album der Schweden seit ihrer Bandgründung in den späten 90er-Jahren.

“Flesh Requiem” wurde mit einem Cover-Artwork von MARIUSZ LEWANDOWSKI ausgestattet und wird am 1. November 2024 via Transcending Obscurity Records erscheinen.

Die Blackened Doom Metal-Band MAESTUS hat mit “Dolorem” eine neue Single in EP-Länge mitsamt Visualizer veröffentlicht. Der 16-minütige Song folgt der 2020er-EP “Daybreak’s Advent” nach. Zuvor haben die US-Amerikaner aus Portland mit “Voir Dire” (2015) und “Deliquesce” (2019) zwei Alben veröffentlicht.

Die Blackened Mittelalter-Band GRYLLE hat mit “Le Triomphe de la Mort” eine dritte Single ihres kommenden Albums “Egrotants, Souffreteux, Cacochymes, Covidards” veröffentlicht. Es ist nach “Les Grandes Compagnies” (2019) das zweite Album des französischen Trios, welches aus HYVER (VÉHÉMENCE, HANTERNOZ, TOUR D´IVOIRE), KK (PASSÉISME, PAROXYSM UNIT, WOMBRIPPER) und Cadavre (CANTIQUE LÉPREUX, MÊLÉE DES AURORES) besteht.

Das lyrische Thema des Albums, welches mit einem Cover-Artwork von Miho Kuroyanagi ausgestattet wurde, wird von der aktuellen sozialen und politischen Situation inspiriert, um mit einem mittelalterlichen Ansatz und einem satirischen Blickwinkel Chroniken unserer Zeit zu schreiben. Release-Termin ist der 10. November 2024 via Antiq. Zu den ersten beiden Songs gibt es ebenfalls ein Video, in welchem Hyver die Lyrics liest.

Die Death Metal-Band SARCOPHAGUM hat mit “The Grand Arc of Madness” ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist das erste Album der Australier aus Sydney, die 2022 mit der EP “Conduits to the Underworld” debütierten.

“The Grand Arc of Madness” wurde von Greg Chandler in den Priory Recording Studios gemixt und gemastert und wird am 6. Dezember 2024 via Nuclear Winter Records erscheinen. Vorab gibt es den Track “Feudal Futures” zu hören.

Die Heavy / Power Metal-Band CHRYSALID hat nach dem Video-Clip zu “Eternal Flame” – Tim “Ripper” Owens (Ex-JUDAS PRIEST) – nun auch den Titeltrack ihres neuen Albums “Breaking the Chains” als Lyric-Video veröffentlicht. Zuvor sind Videos zu “War Of Illusions” und “The King” – mit Craig Cairns (TAILGUNNER) – erschienen.

“Breaking the Chains” ist nach “Back on the Streets” (2022) das zweite Album der Engländer und ist am 18. Oktober 2024 via Rockshots Records erschienen.
