Mit „Rotten Magick“ wird am 18. Juli 2025 via Naturmacht Productions das neue Album der Blackened Heavy Metal-Band SORCERÖT erscheinen. Es ist das erste Album der US-Amerikaner rund um Cody Knarr (KILLER REFRIGERATOR, MACHINATIONS OF FATE) und Jared Compton (Ex-WINTERHYMN) erscheinen.

„Rotten Magick“ wurde von Michael Ragan gemixt und gemastert und mit einem Cover-Artwork von David Thiérrée ausgestattet. Vorab gibt es nach dem Opener „Nightmare Cauldron“ nun auch den Song „In the Cedar Forest of Humbaba“ zu hören.

Portland’s one-man gloom engine, Richie Filth, bolts from the shadows with his urgent new single, “Don’t Look Back.” Conceived in a subterranean studio beneath his home, the track—entirely written, produced, and mixed by Filth himself—expertly blends the spectral atmospherics of 80s Darkwave with the serrated guitars of classic Post-Punk, all infused with the melancholic romanticism of French Coldwave. The result is a rush of melody and tension, driven by guitar hooks that echo the propulsive, windswept charm of second-wave gothic rock.

“Don’t Look Back” is a driving, minor-key exorcism: Linn hi-hats crackle insistently over a prowling, restless bassline, while icy chorused guitars slice through washes of analog gloom. Filth’s haunting vocal emerges, murmuring anxieties of paralysis and breathless terror before urging flight—a whispered promise to outrun the encroaching darkness. Surreal imagery seeps through every verse, conjuring ghosts clawing closer under the cover of darkness and the suffocating collapse of hometown despair, closing tight as a coffin lid. The refrain, an insistent invocation to abandon the past, builds with relentless intensity, its urgency escalating into a mantra of defiance as the song hurtles headlong towards cathartic escape.

“Don’t Look Back” explores the idea of escape. Sometimes escape is avoidance—a refusal to face the unbearable—but escape can also be an act of defiance. According to Filth, the track is about “the moment we recognize that survival means severing ties with what hurts us—whether it’s a place, a person, an idea, or even a past we’ve outgrown.” He adds that the song “captures that threshold, the terrifying moment just before we choose to run,” emphasizing that it “reminds us that letting go isn’t a weakness—it’s often the boldest move we make. And while the past may howl behind us, there’s something sacred in refusing to turn around.”

Don’t Look Back by Richie Filth

Richie Filth is the solo vision of a Los Angeles transplant who has spent the past decade haunting Portland’s underground music scene. Rooted deeply in the fertile crossroads of early Goth and French Coldwave, Filth cites the minimalist, melodic bass stylings of Siouxsie and the Banshees’ Steven Severin—his primary musical and aesthetic inspiration—as pivotal in shaping his creative approach. Further influenced by seminal French Coldwave acts such as Trisomie 21, Asylum Party, Little Nemo, Mary Goes Round, and KaS Product, Richie Filth meticulously blends ethereal melancholy with driving rhythms and emotional rawness.

Entirely self-contained, he writes, performs, records, and produces every element of his songs in his subterranean studio, crafting tracks that explore themes of grief, loss, desire, and the darker complexities of intimacy. Singles like “Abigail” evoke haunted romanticism, while the emotionally charged “Shallow Grave” and “Drown” delve into personal turmoil with stark vulnerability. Meanwhile, the wry, club-inflected “Sex Toy” showcases his playful exploration of kink and objectification with tongue firmly in cheek.

Los Angeles outfit Sleek Teeth plunges headfirst into the undercurrents of existential unease with their latest offering, Same. Melding the ghostly echoes of early ’90s dancefloor allure with rhythms sharp enough to slice the fog, their newest release navigates emotional territories where ethereal beauty collides with human frailty. Here, Sleek Teeth reveals a mastery in balancing evocative pop croons reminiscent of Talk Talk’s Mark Hollis, set against a backdrop charged by electronic pulses echoing the stark minimalism of Depeche Mode, Cabaret Voltaire, DAF, and Fad Gadget.

Directed with precision by Adrian Stucker, the video for Same explores an eerie duality, capturing parallel selves locked in internal conflict. Sleek Teeth are a Los Angeles–based dark electronic duo, formed in 2023 by songwriter-producers Josh and Vox, who met via Craigslist and bonded over a shared love for 80s‑inspired synthpop and darkwave  Their self-titled debut EP, released in October 2024, features five tracks that blend haunting vocals, industrial beats, and themes of isolation, mystery, and social anxiety. Duderella‘s fiery new single Horchata Fresa bursts out of LA’s punk underground with infectious rage and electrifying irreverence. When love evaporates without warning, reality fractures into blurred vignettes, moments slipping like scratched vinyl loops of what was. Los Angeles trio DECEITS plunge directly into this fractured realm with a new video for their emotionally charged single All We Are (Are Memories).

Vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Kevin “Puppy” Moreno, guitarist Skylar Francise, and percussionist Francisco Saenz channel the bittersweet ache reminiscent of early Cure recordings, intertwining tightly wound melodies evocative of Interpol’s luminous debut. Moreno’s vocals radiate earnest yearning, reaching crescendos that underscore the helplessness felt when confronting a reality irrevocably altered by absence. The single acknowledges the brutal simplicity of love’s disappearance: no negotiation, no recourse, merely lingering memories etched in heartache.

Driving basslines and kinetic rhythms propel the track forward, infusing it with an undeniable urgency that contrasts beautifully against cascading guitars and lush, emotive keyboard flourishes. The result is a compelling invocation of loss, punctuated by a powerful sincerity.

Director Of Sun Media’s accompanying visual unfolds as a gothic romance amid the skeletal remains of an abandoned factory. A shadowy figure chases another dressed in ethereal white, roses grasped in a futile gesture of reconciliation. The visual allegory elegantly captures the anguish of broken communication and the desperation to mend what’s irreparable. Scenes alternate sharply between the band’s intense performance awash in passionate red hues and stark monochrome sequences that amplify the stark emotional isolation of the chase.

DECEITS masterfully distill the disorienting experience of sudden emotional displacement into both song and image, resonating deeply with anyone familiar with the raw, timeless ache of lost love.

Taking their name from a track by underrated 80s UK post-punk band The Wild Flowers, DECEITS have steadily grown a dedicated following in the gothic underground through their irresistible blend of emotive textures and passionate performances. The Amatory Murder plunges headfirst into societal malaise with their newest single, Say Hey (For Doomsday)!, a blistering track that sharpens its knives on the whetstone of modern anxiety. Fronted by Xian Murder, the Brooklyn-based quartet, rounded out by Scott Genovese on drums, Binx Noir holding down the bass, and Jake Haimowitz slicing through with incendiary guitar riffs, offers a dynamic convergence of alternative rock’s relentless energy, grunge-inflected attitude, and deceptively buoyant pop beats.

“Our music could best be described as an alternative rock landscape with grungy punk sensibilities and pop beat arrangements,” Xian explains, emphasizing their blend of “heavy guitars, catchy hooks, and thoughtful, melodic lyrics,” a concoction well-suited to tackling the turbulent themes that anchor their songwriting.

Say Hey (For Doomsday)! cuts straight to the bone with a scathing critique of contemporary propaganda and societal conformity dressed as security. This song grabs listeners by the collar, urging skepticism towards authority’s comforting façade. “Question everything, or be swallowed whole,” is the unflinching warning it issues, leaving no ambiguity about its intent.

Xian Murder pulls no punches in expressing his creative drive: “This track allowed me to channel much of my angst and resentment toward society. Sometimes it feels like the world is purposely imploding, and we’re helping it along.” The song embodies this sentiment fully, propelled by a driving rhythm section and underpinned by razor-edged guitar work courtesy of Jake Haimowitz, who relished the opportunity to wield a formidable 7-string guitar, exclaiming, “I was stoked to break out the 7-string…it brings the bite.”

Indeed, the band masterfully balances raw energy with underlying darkness. Drummer Scott Genovese echoes this duality, describing the song as “forceful and driving, but there’s a real darkness beneath it.” It’s this friction between accessible hooks and sinister thematic depth that marks The Amatory Murder’s distinctive brand of rock.

“This one calls back to my heavy roots,” shares bassist Binx Noir. “It’s got a thundering bass-line and that ‘screaming-bloody-murder’ kind of energy.”

The single serves as a fitting finale to their latest full-length album, The Sounds of Seven Angels, a release marked by emotional urgency and probing lyrical insight. Drawing clear influences from titans like Pink Floyd, Muse, The Cult, and Nine Inch Nails, the album traverses a landscape marred by societal decay, internal turmoil, and a restless quest for truth in a fractured reality.

Echoing System of a Down’s pointed commentary from their post-9/11 era, the visuals starkly highlight an unsettlingly familiar scenario—but now, the once impressionable students are grown, eyes wide open to the sinister truth behind the messaging.

Die Death / Thrash Metal-Band KALDEIRA hat mit „Metatron“ eine erste Single ihres kommenden Albums „Fournaise“ veröffentlicht. Es ist das erste Album der Band von der Insel La Réunion, die als THE HILL IS BURNING bereits zwei Alben veröffentlicht hatte, ehe es zur Umbenennung kam.

Die Stoner Rock-Band DUSTED ANGEL hat mit „This Side Of The Dirt“ ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist nach „Earth-Sick Mind“ (2010) das zweite Album der Band, welche in den 15 Jahren dazwischen einiges durchzumachen hatte, als dass etwa Sänger Clifford Dinsmore in dieser Periode zwei Krebserkrankungen, eine Knochenmarktransplantation und die COVID-19-Pandemie überlebte.

„This Side Of The Dirt“ wird am 19. September 2025 via Heavy Psych Sounds erscheinen. Vorab gibt es den Track „Death Crushes Hope“ zu hören.

„“Death Crushed Hope“ sollte immer ein aufmunterndes Lied sein“, sagt Clifford Dinsmore. „Es war inspiriert von meiner Frustration über das Älterwerden und den Schmerz, den wir alle empfinden, wenn wir Freunde und geliebte Menschen auf diesem Weg verlieren. Später, während meines persönlichen Kampfes gegen den Krebs, eröffnete es mir eine ganz neue Perspektive. Trotz der Härte der irdischen Umstände gibt es immer noch die elementaren Kräfte der Natur. Es gibt immer noch die Möglichkeit der Flucht und der Meditation in der Einsamkeit und Ruhe der wilden und majestätischen Wunderlandschaften dieses Planeten.“

Die Sludge / Powerviolence-Band STOMACH hat mit „Oscillate“ einen zweiten Track ihres kommenden Albums „Low Demon“ veröffentlicht. Es ist nach „Parasite“ (2023) das zweite Album der US-Amerikaner aus Illinois rund um Sänger und Drummer John Hoffman (WEEKEND NACHOS, LEDGE).

„Low Demon“ wurde von Will Killingsworth in den Dead Air Studios gemixt und gemastert und wird am 18. Juli 2025 via Hibernation erscheinen. Vorab gibt es auch den Track „Get Through Winter“ zu hören.

„“Get Through Winter“ ist ein Song über saisonale Depressionen und die unbeschreiblichen Gefühle, die mit Temperaturen unter dem Gefrierpunkt einhergehen“, sagt John Hoffman. „Im Mittleren Westen ist das so etwas wie ein Grundnahrungsmittel, eines dieser ‚Sag mir, dass du aus Chicago bist, ohne mir zu sagen, dass du aus Chicago bist‘-Dinge. Es gibt ein chemisches Ungleichgewicht, das während dieser Monate auftritt, nicht bei jedem, aber bei einigen von uns, das wirklich miserabel ist, als ob jede Hoffnung auf Glück auf Eis liegt und man nicht in der Lage ist, mit dem Leben voranzukommen, bis das Gehirn auftaut. Die Attitüde haben beide Bands schon mal gemein. Hier ist nichts verfälscht, zu jeder Zeit ehrlich und voller Leidenschaft. Jedes einzelne Lied auf “Confessing Darkness” ist so unglaublich dicht komponiert, dass die verteilten melodischen Verschnaufpausen dermaßen wichtig sind, um dieses Album unbeschadet am Stück durchhören zu können.

IMHA TARIKAT ist pures dunkles Menschsein, hier ist der Teufel eher Konzept als Verkörperung, wie in “Voices Of Bitter Epiphany” kurz besungen: “For the devil is a saint’s seed, being his wheat to reap.”. Es geht nicht um Provokation, es geht um Wut und Zerstörung, es geht um Bitterkeit, Schmerz und Leid.

Bei “Excellent Grief” fragen wir uns, wie viel Leid wir zu ertragen im Stande sind, bei “Confessing Darkness” geben wir uns diesem Leid hin um in “Chamber Of Sin” dem Tod und der Erlösung ganz nah zu sein.

“And as I see fate’s pure shine, I know:
Death is salvation to the sentenced life”

„Horns in the Smoke“ möchte ich ebenfalls hervorheben, wie auch „Another Failed Ritual“, den Anspieltipp für Leute, die nicht gleich das ganze Album hören wollen. Aber letztlich gilt es, die Scheibe als Ganzes zu erforschen, was wie oben erwähnt eine sehr intensive Erfahrung wird.

Mit dem Vorgänger „Hearts Unchained – At War With A Passionless World“ (ebenfalls grandios) hat IMHA TARIKAT den eigenen Sound gefunden und auf „Confessing Darkness“ im Studio von Michael Zech gestrafft und verfeinert. Das Album wurde wieder komplett von Kerem eingespielt, nur an die Drums lässt er jemanden ran, in diesem Fall einen gewissen Jerome Reil, vielleicht ventort es da bei der Leserschaft.

Ich frage mich, ob ich von dem Kelch auf dem Albumcover trinken würde, wenn ich ihn angeboten bekäme. Wahrscheinlich nicht, denn nach all der Wut, dem Schmerz und des Leids der vergangenen 51 Minuten gibt es zum Schluss doch einen Funken Hoffnung, wie es im letzten Lied „The Day I Died (Reborn Into Flames)“ heißt:

Though that was when it called me home
And at first my fears I couldn’t overcome
I frowned in shock by its aura of love:
„Follow me to find new hope“

Und diese Hoffnung habe ich nun auch wieder als Mieter. Danke für dieses Gesamtkunstwerk, IMHA TARIKAT!

Born in 2020, à La Carte Records has grown into a coast‑spanning conduit—half‑rooted in LA’s DIY warehouses, half‑camped in DC’s art‑school shadows, but loud in every city a tour van can reach. Federico Nessi, the creative force behind the Bowie-pilfered moniker Be My Wife, returns with his hypnotically disorienting new single and accompanying visual, “Me Cuesta,” from the forthcoming EP, To Deliver a Feeling. Traversing an artistic map that spans from Miami to Buenos Aires and is now firmly anchored in Paris, Nessi cultivates an aesthetic steeped in angular eccentricity and the avant-garde intrigue of post-punk, minimal synth explorations, and nocturnal no-wave sensibilities.

Me Cuesta grapples deeply and poetically with identity and belonging, acting as both a love letter and a farewell missive to Argentina, Nessi’s ancestral home, still haunting him after decades spent abroad. Here, displacement and the elusive nature of acceptance weave into hypnotic rhythms he’s dubbed ‘tropi-goth,’ a seductive and unlikely blend of alternative reggaeton, minimal wave, and cumbia-flavored reverberations. Amidst this curious fusion, a distorted guitar moans plaintively, carving raw emotional currents through the sultry atmospherics.

Director Antoine Asseraf brings a striking duality to life in the Paris-filmed visual counterpart to the track, juxtaposing two versions of Federico: one forever itinerant, suitcases perpetually packed; the other reluctant and entrenched, resisting each forced goodbye. Everyday objects are ritualistically arranged, turned into sacred relics before being neatly, almost mournfully, tucked away. It brings to mind the video for Tuxedomoon’s Jinx: maddening, claustrophobic, and full of pathos.

Asseraf toys thoughtfully with spiritual materialism, unpacking how attachments thin with each new uprooting. References to 90s-era music videos and the performance art provocations of Francis Alÿs and Vito Acconci lend a deeper art-house resonance, suggesting existential queries lurking beneath mundane routines.

Me Cuesta is a compelling meditation on transient identity, elegantly framed by Be My Wife’s charming and experimental style, suspended between heartfelt confession and existential ambiguity. This release signals Nessi as a talent able to draw authentic emotional tension from the quiet friction between belonging and perpetual wanderlust.
