AMORPHIS kündigen ihr 15. Studioalbum an: Die neue Platte der Finnen trägt den Titel „Borderland“ und erscheint am 26. September 2025. Heute haben AMORPHIS die zweite Single „Bones“ veröffentlicht: 

Reinhören kann man auch in die Single-Auskopplung „Light And Shadow„.

AMORPHIS-Gitarrist Esa Holopainen verrät, was die Band bei diesem Album anders gemacht hat:

„Für „Borderland“ arbeiteten wir erstmals mit dem dänischen Produzenten Jacob Hansen zusammen, nachdem wir zuvor drei überaus erfolgreiche Scheiben mit Jens Bogren aufgenommen hatten. Als wir die neue Platte geplant haben, merkten wir, dass es an der Zeit wäre, etwas Neues auszuprobieren. Wir haben deshalb mit einem anderen Produzenten gearbeitet, der eine frische Herangehensweise mitbringt!“

Zur Veröffentlichung von „Borderland“ sind AMOPHIS Ende 2025 auf Headlinetour in Finnland. Zuvor kommen AMORPHIS auch nach Deutschland und tourt mit ARCH ENEMY,  ELUVEITIE und GATECREEPER.

STEVE HACKETT hat das nächste Live-Album herausgebrach: Am 11. Juli 2025 erschien „The Lamb Stands Up Live At The Royal Albert Hall“ via InsideOut Music auf Vinyl, digital sowie als Doppel-CD mit BluRay. Die Platte enthält einen Live-Mitschnitt aus London – aufgezeichnet wurde dieser im Oktober 2024. Ein Video zum Track „Lilywhite Lilith“ gibt es online zu sehen.

Die Nummer „The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway“ gewährt ebenso wie „Fly On A Windshield“ vorab einen weiteren Höreindruck.

Mit der Aufführung feiert STEVE HACKETT das 50-jährige Jubiläum des GENESIS-Albums „The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway“. Der Musiker kommentiert:

„Ich habe mich sehr gefreut, ‚The Lamb‘ auf Tour wieder aufleben zu lassen. Der Abend in der Royal Albert Hall war besonders unvergesslich. Es ist mein Lieblingsort in London und die Atmosphäre dort an diesem Abend war absolut elektrisierend … Ich habe mich sehr gefreut, dass alle Bandmitglieder und Gastmusiker das mit Bravour gemeistert haben!“

Den Audiomix übernahm Chris Lord-Alge, das Mastering wiederum Ted Jensen.

Im Frühjahr ist STEVE HACKETT auch hierzulande live zu sehen (Termine s. unten).

Singer / Songwriter BRENT COBB hat gemeinsam mit seiner Band THE FIXIN’S ein neues Studialbum herausgebracht. „Ain’t Rocked In A While“ erschien am 11. Juli 2025 via Ol‘ Buddy Records / Thirty Tigers und wurde von Cobb in Zusammenarbeit mit Oran Thornton produziert. Den Release feierte man mit dem Lyric-Video „Bad Feelin‘“

Warum der Musiker diesmal ein Album mit kompletter Band aufgenommen hat, erklärt er in einem Statement:

„Ich habe manchmal das Gefühl, dass es eine Kluft gibt, wenn die Leute zu unseren Shows kommen. Sie sehen mich vielleicht nur als Singer-Songwriter, der sich hinsetzt und ihnen eine nette kleine Geschichte aus dem Süden erzählt. Und dann singe ich ihnen ein Lied. Aber unsere Live-Shows rocken ziemlich. Manchmal sind die Leute davon überrascht. Ich möchte, dass die Leute ein Album haben, an dem sie sich orientieren können.“

Das Titelstück „Aint Rocked In A While“ kann man vorab als Musikvideo sehen.

Als wir Anfang des Jahres der Neugier wegen zum ersten Mal ein „Fine Dining“-Menü buchten, setzte man uns als dritten Gang einen sogenannten Gaumenreiniger vor. Geschmacklich war hier keine Explosion zu holen, er sollte uns aber für jene Köstlichkeiten empfänglich machen, die noch folgen sollten. Rückblickend betrachtet könnten wir „Infinite Granite“ (2021) eine ähnliche Rolle attestieren. Der überraschende Shoegaze-Exkurs DEAFHEAVENs steuerte in ruhigere Gefilde und überraschte mit angenehm losgelöster Atmosphäre, wohingegen das gewisse Etwas letztlich auf der Strecke blieb.

Der positive Nebeneffekt vier Jahre später: Wir sind nun umso empfänglicher für die vom Post Rock inspirierten Spitzen, die „Lonely People With Power“ punktuell setzt. Eine Art Rückbesinnung auf den garstigen Blackgaze, aber eben mit erweitertem Horizont. Jener macht sich in „Heathen“ bemerkbar, wo cleane Gitarren um den zurückgenommenen Klargesang tänzeln. Entrückt und melodisch zeigen sich DEAFHEAVEN in diesen Augenblicken, flirten atmosphärisch mit Dreampop-Passagen, welche sie mit kratzigem Black Metal vermählen.

„Lonely People With Power“ wandelt zwischen Schönheit und galligem Trotz
Das Spannungsfeld, welches sich durch diesen Mix der Gegensätze ergibt, ist vielleicht nicht unmittelbar vereinnahmend, entfaltet jedoch schon bald einen nahezu unwiderstehlichen Sog. „Amethyst“ wühlt beispielsweise das getragene Post-Rock-Fundament mit rohen Black-Metal-Eruptionen auf, die über das ganze Album hinweg herrlich rau erklingen.

Ob nun Blastbeats, Screams oder die klirrenden Gitarren einen Weg durch das dichte Soundbett suchen, einen ungeschliffenen Charakter bewahrt sich die Produktion ganz bewusst, wodurch „Lonely People With Power“ in einem kuriosen Vakuum zwischen Schönheit und galligem Trotz existiert. Daraus machen DEAFHEAVEN auch gar keinen Hehl, wie schon der ruppige Auftakt „Doberman“ erkennen lässt, das sich nur zeitweise öffnet. Interessant bleibt das Schlagzeugspiel Daniel Tracys allerdings zu jeder Zeit, selbst wenn „Magnolia“ oder „Revelator“ recht unverblümt in angeschwärzte Gefilde vorpreschen.

DEAFHEAVEN halten auf „Lonely People With Power“ die Spannung bis zum Finale aufrecht
Zäsuren setzen hingegen die drei „Incidental“-Zwischenspiele, wo Ambient-Soundscapes und bedeutungsschwangere Gastbeiträge von Jae Matthews (BOY HARSHER) und Paul Banks (INTERPOL) die Stille füllen und uns empfänglich machen für den massiven Soundwall, den „Winona“ nach behutsamem Aufbau heraufbeschwört. Das Post-Black-Finale des Songs schließlich fühlt sich trotz der zornerfüllten Lyrics fast schon kathartisch an. Insofern ist die Wahl des Schlusstracks durchaus konsequent: „The Marvelous Orange Tree“ wagt zum Ende hin nochmals das Blackgaze-Experiment, das in seiner emotional aufgeladenen neuen Rolle eher die Kirsche auf der Sahnetorte als bloßer Gaumenreiniger ist: Fine Dining für die Ohren.

Ganz so verloren und verdammt muss man sich nicht fühlen, wie es der Albumtitel vom neuen MARGARITA WITCH CULT-Album „Strung Out In Hell“ suggeriert. Doch ein Stück weit ausweglos kann es schon sein, wenn man in das zweite Album der Engländer aus Birmingham hineinhört: denn das Album liefert den Hörer der Gefahr aus, in einer Endlosschleife gefangen zu werden.

Für „Strung Out In Hell“ benötigt man die Repeat-Taste
MARGARITA WITCH CULT machen auf „Strung Out In Hell“ sehr vieles richtig: zum einen haben wir es mit einem abwechslungsreichen Potpourri aus Stoner und Retro Rock sowie Doom und Proto-Metal mit etwas Sludge zu tun und zum anderen bekommt der Hörer eine ganze Fülle an starken Melodien und fesselnden Songabschnitten serviert. Dazu reduziert sich die Band auf das Nötigste in Sachen Länge: die Songs sind zumeist derart auf den Punkt gebracht, dass man zwei, drei Mal sogar das Gefühl hat, dass man sich einen Song länger wünscht und somit gezwungen ist, die Repeat-Taste zu drücken. Bestes Beispiel hierfür ist „Witches‘ Candle“, der beinahe am meisten Metal-Lastigkeit versprüht.

MARGARITA WITCH CULT setzen auf Abwechslung
Aber auch die anderen Tracks überzeugen wie der kurze und knackige Opener „Crawl Home To Your Coffin“, der aufgrund seiner kräftigen und prägnanten Vocals und den bestimmten Snare-Einschlägen vor allem in den Strophen recht gut gefällt. Der gewisse Retro-Vibe kommt dagegen am besten in „Scream Bloody Murder“ (mit einem netten Solo dazwischen) und dem sehr starken „Mars Rover“ zur Geltung. Experimenteller zeigt sich dagegen „The Fool“, wenn auch Blechblasinstrumente zum Einsatz gebracht werden. Darüber hinaus zeigen sich MARGARITA WITCH CULT auch beim Gesang abwechslungsreich, als dass nicht nur rockig hoch gesungen wird, sondern auch leichte Sludge-Elemente in den Gesang mit hineingenommen werden wie beim aggressiv anmutenden „Dig Your Way Out“ oder beim bedrohlich kriechenden „Who Put Bella In The Wych Elm“.

Somit ein spannender und abwechslungsreicher Release aus England, dem man Gehör schenken sollte, wenn man denn Zeit mitbringen will, sich in eine Endlosschleife einfangen zu lassen.

Die Psychedelic Stoner Rock-Band STONED JESUS hat mit „Songs to Sun“ ein neues Album angekündigt. Das Album ist der erste Teil einer Trilogie, die die verschiedenen Phasen von der Band abdecken wird. Weitere Alben sind das düstere „Songs to Moon“ und das proggigere „Songs to Earth“.

„Songs to Sun“ wurde von Karl Daniel Lidén im Studio Tri-Lamb gemixt und gemastert und mit einem Cover-Artwork von Vadym „Karaska“ Karasiov ausgestattet. Release-Termin ist der 19. September 2025 via Season of Mist.

Mit „Then the Darkness“ wird am 25. Juli 2025 via Translation Loss Records das neue Album der Post-Progressive Metal-Band GRAYCEON erscheinen. Es ist das sechste Album des US-amerikanischen Trios aus San Francisco rund um Sängerin und Cellistin Jckie Perez Gratz (BRUME).

„Dieses Album entstand aus der Reflexion über uns selbst, die Welt und all die Dinge, die wir verloren haben und um die wir immer noch kämpfen“, erklärt Sängerin Jackie Perez Gratz.

„Then the Darkness“ wurde von Jack Shirley in den The Atomic Garden Recording Studios produziert. Vorab gibt es zum Opener „Thousand Year Storm“ einen Video-Clip.

Die Progressive Blues Rock-Band DWELLERS hat mit „Headlines“ einen Video-Clip ihres neuen Albums „Corrupt Translation Machine“ veröffentlicht.

„“Headlines“ ist ein einfacher, kleiner, unbeschwerter Song über die Vergänglichkeit und Ungreifbarkeit innerer Gedanken, die Vergänglichkeit aller Dinge im Außen und den Versuch, sich nicht zu sehr in all dem zu verfangen“, sagt Frontmann Joey Toscano.

Es ist nach „Good Morning Harakiri“ (2012) und „Pagan Fruit“ (2014) das dritte Album der US-Amerikaner aus Salt Lake City.

„Die Songs auf diesem Album scheinen sich hauptsächlich um Vergänglichkeit, Sucht, Verlust, Liebe und die Ungreifbarkeit der Wahrnehmung zu drehen. Ich sage ’scheinen‘, weil es kein ausgeklügeltes Konzept für das Album gab, um das eine oder andere zu sein, und wenn ich es anhöre, habe ich das starke Gefühl, dass ich es genauso interpretiere, wie wenn ich die Songs von jemand anderem anhöre. Ich könnte genau sagen, worum es in den einzelnen Songs geht, aber das würde dem Titel des Albums widersprechen“, erklärt Gitarrist Joey Toscano.

„Corrupt Translation Machine“ wurde von Mike Sasitch im Man Vs. Music in Salt Lake City aufgenommen, von Eric Hoegemyer gemixt und von Chris Goosman gemastert. Das Cover-Artwork stammt von Dani Joy. Release-Termin war der 23. Mai 2025 via Small Stone Recordings.

Die Fantasy Black Metal-Band WITHERED LAND hat mit „Hall Of The Dead“ ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist nach „The Endless Journey“ (2021) das zweite Album des weißrussischen Solo-Projekts von Olga Kann (MONUMENTUM DAMNATI), die sich abermals von Koliopanos Filippos (OCEAN OF GRIEF, ON THORNS I LAY) unterstützen ließ: der Grieche spielte die Gitarren ein und zeichnete für die Produktion verantwortlich. Release-Termin ist der 19. September 2025 via Earth And Sky Productions.

„Hall Of The Dead“ ist inspiriert von der „The Elder Scrolls“ (Skyrim, Oblivion, Morrowind).

„Die Tracks des neuen Albums sind so etwas wie Erinnerungen, die ruhelose Geister denjenigen erzählen, die in die Halle der Toten kommen. Geschichten von Reisenden, die in den Wäldern erfroren, von Raubtieren gefressen, von Vampiren getötet wurden, nach Begegnungen mit Geisterbeschwörern, Atronachen oder die sich in Labyrinthen voller Drachen und Skelette verirrt hatten“, sagt Olga Kann.

New York City’s Like What strides boldly through five years of cinematic synthpop colliding headlong with crisp, icy darkwave. To mark this half-decade milestone, they’ve unleashed the aptly titled Anniversary Anthology, an EP capturing the project’s most resonant tracks, a distilled retrospective shimmering with minimalist mystique and futuristic flair. It arrives alongside a surreal, monochrome video for their first-ever single, Dark is the Night, an art-house dream soaked in glitchy dadaism, pop culture snippets, and stark, alien vistas.

Emerging from pandemic solitude, Like What seized the unlikely tools of an iPad and a guitar, channeling quarantine isolation into music echoing the brittle chill of Kraftwerk and Neu!, the stark urgency of Grauzone, and Gary Numan’s synthetic pulse. Their method defies convention; it thrives in limitation, building sparse compositions that capture the eerie glow and noirish tension of classic 80s darkwave.

Lyrically, “Dark is the Night” delves into chilling visions of loss and inevitability, painting stark imagery of violent demise amid shadowy dreamscapes. Haunting lines vividly portray helplessness and intimate tragedy, amplifying the unsettling tension between reality and nightmare. The video for Dark Is the Night especially embodies this ethos: cold, unsettling, and visually hypnotic, as it mirrors the song’s unsettling beauty: a feverish montage of distorted faces, surreal landscapes, and cryptic symbolism, conjuring nightmares in rhythmic flashes of black and white.

LDV (La Dolce Vita) arrived fashionably late to the party but fully realized with their debut LP, Confessions (2024, Mold Records). Born from Udine’s post-punk underground of the early ’80s, this Italian collective spent decades simmering quietly, honing a musical language marked by artistic nuance rather than noise. Their initial EP, 1979, hinted at promise; Confessions delivered fully on that early whisper.

The Italian band’s newest single, Hide Yourself From Love, speaks volumes with understated menace. LDV meditates sharply on love’s hidden casualties: the gentle betrayals, unspoken gestures, and unintended hurts that chip away at affection until it crumbles. Frontman Sergio Cinghiale directs the track’s visuals himself, masterfully deploying the claustrophobic perspective of the Snorricam technique. Actress Nina Bigatton becomes our guide (or perhaps hostage) through this unsettling maze, her panicked expressions mirroring an internal turmoil that words alone couldn’t describe.

Cinghiale’s direction creates a visual unease: we’re trapped, tethered to Bigatton’s every anxious breath. Ambiguity coats the scenes, unclear if the threat she senses is tangible, lurking in the darkness, or merely the emotional echo of past trauma. Distorted lights chase her, reality blurring at the edges, all building to the cathartic release of a thunderstorm finale.

In the storm’s crescendo, something shifts. It’s not explained whether Bigatton’s character escapes her fears or awakens from an emotional fever dream, but the tension breaks palpably, washing clean the anxiety of the preceding chase. It’s this precise dance between the concrete and the symbolic that elevates Hide Yourself From Love into an artful reflection on vulnerability and consequence.
