16.07.2025 - The Charlatans Announce First New Album in Eight Years “We Are Love” — Listen to Title Track and Lead Single

Ever present while unavailable
My glass half empty
Yours half full
You got me acting irrational
The Charlatans‘ new album, We Are Love, is set to arrive just in time for Halloween…a fitting date for a record tinged with memory, renewal, and spectral significance. Following a busy live schedule that included a 2023 North American co-headline tour with Ride and a 2024 series of anniversary shows celebrating their second album, Between 10th and 11th, the band is back with renewed energy. Eight years have passed since the release of their last album, *Different Days*, in 2017. Their lead single and title track from the forthcoming 14th album, “We Are Love,” showcases this vibrant revival..
From the opening moments, We Are Love is an invigorating collision of post-punk drumbeats and jangly indie rock guitar lines: a love letter to existence itself, spirited and direct. Lyrically, We Are Love reflects a contemplative yet hopeful spirit, navigating themes of uncertainty, the weight of decisions, and contrasting perspectives on life. There’s an enduring optimism in facing darkness, a communal striving for truth and reconciliation amidst chaos. It revels in the complexity of human relationships, celebrating language as a healing force, a bridge across divides, and a gesture toward the profound power of mutual acceptance and love.
Frontman Tim Burgess describes the track, one of the first to materialize for the album, as akin to “an open top car ride in the credits of your favourite movie, driving along the coast to somewhere amazing,” a vivid image that perfectly captures its buoyant optimism. “I think it’s wildly exciting as a track,” Burgess told NME. “I could imagine it being a euphoric, transcendent moment. I think great tracks have that transcendence to them, so that’s what I was looking for.”
“Early on we thought it felt right,” adds guitarist Mark Collins. “And it turned out that way: first single, title track, second song on the album. There was a certain energy to it that drove us forwards.”
Returning to record at Rockfield Studios in Wales for the first time in nearly three decades, The Charlatans confronted echoes of their past, particularly the tragic loss of keyboardist Rob Collins in 1996 during the making of Tellin’ Stories.
“The whole idea of hauntology and psychogeography is represented by us going back to Rockfield,” Burgess remarks. “That was important as a way of honoring every member who’s played in the band. So we’re honouring ourselves, our past, feeling that energy and reincarnating it, doing something fresh, brand new.”
The song comes with a psychedelic lyric visualizer of the band in various photographs.
The production team, including the incisive vision of Dev Hynes (Blood Orange), Fred MacPherson (Spector), and iconic producer Stephen Street (The Smiths, Blur), enriches We Are Love with layered nuance and impeccable clarity. The Charlatans sound rejuvenated, gracefully balancing introspection and exuberance without slipping into sentimentality.
Ultimately, We Are Love is The Charlatans reclaiming their vitality, a confident stride forward anchored by respect for their storied past. It’s music that celebrates the immediacy of now, an effervescent affirmation that, even after decades in the game, The Charlatans still have something urgent and meaningful to say.
Listen to We Are Love below and pre-order the album here.
The Charlatans have unfurled plans for a December UK tour, headlining shows in Leeds, Stoke, Bath, London, Manchester and Glasgow.
Tickets go on general sale at 10 am BST on Friday, the 18th of July.

15.07.2025 - Death Cult Unveil North American Tour Dates This October — East Coast Dates Announced!

Veteran post-punk outfit Death Cult – the earlier, darker incarnation of The Cult — have announced a string of North American tour dates this fall. The October trek finds vocalist Ian Astbury and guitarist Billy Duffy revisiting their gothic roots on stage, with each night billed as “a communal gathering of the tribes featuring sets from Death Cult and The Cult”. Los Angeles art-rock outfit Patriarchy will serve as special guests on all dates.
For Astbury and Duffy, this tour is another celebratory nod to their band’s early 1980s origins. Death Cult was originally a “dark and primal” post-punk force formed in 1983 after the breakup of Southern Death Cult – essentially The Cult’s earlier iteration before the name change in 1984. The group’s early releases, including the Death Cult EP and the single “Gods Zoo,” became underground favorites that laid the foundation for The Cult’s signature sound, as showcased on 1984’s Dreamtime and beyond. After retiring the Death Cult moniker for decades, Astbury and Duffy resurrected it in late 2023 with a special one-off show in Los Angeles (coinciding with the 40th anniversary of “Gods Zoo”), followed by a brief U.K. tour – reintroducing the raw mystique and tribal rhythms of their formative years to a new era.
Death Cult at the Ace Theatre, October 23, 2023
This upcoming tour follows a series of high-profile appearances that have whetted fans’ appetites. In May, Death Cult played an intimate warm-up show at Los Angeles’s El Rey Theatre ahead of their much-anticipated set at Pasadena’s Cruel World Festival 2025. The band then crossed the Atlantic in June for the U.K.’s inaugural Forever Now festival, where they delivered a nostalgia-fueled performance of early classics (even capping the night with The Cult’s own hit “She Sells Sanctuary”) These well-received outings proved that Astbury and Duffy’s early material still resonates deeply – and set the stage for a broader North American gathering of the faithful.
Fans attending the Paradise Now dates can expect a journey through The Cult’s genesis. Recent Death Cult shows have featured setlists drawn not only from the 1983 Death Cult catalog, but also Southern Death Cult staples such as “Moya” and select tracks from The Cult’s first two albums (Dreamtime and 1985’s Love).
Tickets for all dates go on sale Friday, July 18, at 10:00 a.m. local time via the band’s official site.

15.07.2025 - WHISPERS IN THE SHADOW „Rapture“ (Post Punk / Dark Rock)

WHISPERS IN THE SHADOW
„Rapture“
(Post Punk / Dark Rock)
Wertung: Gut+
VÖ: 13.06.2025
Label: Icy Cold Records
Webseite: Homepage / Facebook / Bandcamp
Ein wenig Ramones samt Count-up.
„Illussion of Grandeur“ beherbergt zuweilen fast Britpoppige Elemente.
(andreas)

15.07.2025 - Gianna Gianna — Avant-Garde Electronic Music Shapeshifter and Poly-Math Pop Provocateur
Gianna Gianna is the kind of shapeshifter who makes genre definitions feel quaint. In the last half‑decade alone, the Los Angeles performance artist has rattled club subs with industrial‑rap ruptures (“Unlocked”), purred over woozy trip‑hop (“Need Me”), and issued a morbidly sensual Valentine’s Day communiqué (“Man”). Her singles arrive like tarot cards pulled at random—each one a portent, never a prediction—and together they sketch an artist whose only constant is forward momentum. Some might call her polymath pop, while others will recognise in her work that familiar mix of hedonism, high‑art aspiration, and outright provocation. Either way, she’s a necessary antagonist in pop’s increasingly polite conversation.
Born in L.A. and raised for a time in suburban Orange County, Gianna Gianna (née Gianna Martinez) grew up toggling between choir rehearsals and parking‑lot cyphers. By her own reckoning, she is “a trained opera singer, dancer, rapper, filmmaker, writer—an all‑around artist”—an artist who also teaches pre‑school by day, because the candour of toddlers reminds her what unfiltered creativity looks like. The classical warm‑ups, the street‑dance drills, the punk shows she snuck into after curfew: each discipline left a fingerprint on the unruly pop collage she makes today.
At seventeen, she founded BLOK with brothers Damian Blaise and Jesse Saint John, a sibling unit that treated rap verses like arson and synths like blunt instruments. Within two years, BLOK had hoovered up five consecutive Orange County Music Awards and found themselves swapping backstage stories with Gwen Stefani and Snoop Dogg. When Peaches scouted Gianna out of a BLOK video and hauled her on tour, the band’s ascent stalled—but the detour unlocked a darker, stranger solo voice that BLOK’s electro‑rap shell couldn’t contain.
That voice is best encountered on stage, where Gianna treats her body as much as her mic like a percussive element. She refuses pre‑show rituals (no click‑tracks, no mirror pep‑talks), preferring to “be as organic and in the moment as possible.” Videos circulate of her leaping five feet into an accidental split, eyes rolled white, only to pop back up with the grin of someone who’s surprised even herself. It’s performance as self‑exorcism, the inverse of pop’s choreographed certainty; one observer marvelled that she seems “possessed by art.”
The pandemic year didn’t dampen that feral energy—it distilled it. February 2020’s “Unlocked” arrived on Manimal Vinyl as what American Pancake dubbed “electro anti‑pop pop destruction,” praising how its askew production “pushed idols off pedestals.” Gianna’s own explanation is fiercer: the track imagines femme deities worshipped, discarded, then reborn as agents of revenge. Follow‑ups “Beg,” “Enrapture,” and the insomnia‑anthem “Suffer” stretched the template outward—one eye toward the club, the other gouging at patriarchy’s soft underbelly. Apple Music now lists the 2020 run alongside the earlier outlier “Crown,” forming a body of work loud enough to drown the year’s creeping dread.
If “Unlocked” was a gauntlet slam, 2022’s “Man” was a confession whispered through cracked lipstick. Released on Valentine’s Day, the single, Gianna told Weirdo Music Forever, is about “my unwavering mortality consciousness…a morbid sexy V‑Day release.” Over glacial synth‑stabs, she sings not of romance but of entropy, seeking intimacy in the knowledge that every heartbeat is a slow clock toward oblivion. It’s pop as memento mori—Billie Holiday by way of Coil—and it confirms that Gianna’s flirtations are never merely carnal; they’re philosophical.
2023 completed an unofficial triptych: “Desolation,” “Collapse,” and “Need Me.” Each single arrives bone‑clean yet blood‑warm, foregrounding her operatic alto against beats that slither between trap tempo and no‑wave abrasion. On “Need Me” she sings like a dominatrix nursing a melancholy streak; on “Collapse” she loops a multi‑tracked choir that evokes Diamanda Galás if she’d grown up bingeing MTV’s Amp. These singles aren’t collected on an album—Gianna prefers the piecemeal model, a drip‑feed that denies the critic’s urge to box her into an “era.”
The guest list around Gianna reads like a Venn diagram of cult heroes. Peaches drafted her as a dancer before inviting her to open solo sets; the late Genesis P-Orridge offered spiritual kinship; Deerhoof shared bills where time signatures bent like Salvador Dalí clocks; Charli XCX tapped brother Jesse Saint John for hooks that trickled back into Gianna’s universe. Debbie Harry cameoed Gianna in a video, Margaret Cho staged a make-out scene, and David LaChapelle suspended her in a surreal Coca-Cola ad. Gianna’s network proves the old avant-garde adage: stay weird long enough and the mainstream will come knocking.
What unites the disparate threads—opera warm-ups, rap cadences, no-wave feedback, pre-school pedagogy—is a refusal to obey genre, gender, or even gravity. Paper dubbed her “already your favourite artist’s favourite artist,” while American Pancake calls her a “living, breathing work of avant‑garde art.” On stage, she reclaims outbursts as a feminist tool; on record, she sculpts pop hooks from the debris. She’s proof that when the industry builds a box, there’s always at least one artist limber enough to somersault out of it, land in the splits, and keep singing.
Beyond performing, Gianna curates Gianna Gianna Presents…, a monthly radio rendezvous on KCHUNG Radio 1630AM. Beaming from LA’s Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), the show dives into insightful chats and carefully curated musical selections, streaming globally via KCHUNGRADIO.org on the MOCA channel, archived for future indulgence. Upcoming episodes are slated for July 30th (3-5 pm), August 29th (3-5 pm), and thereafter every fourth Saturday from 2-4 pm.

02.07.2025 - Beborn Beton – “Stars [Remixed]”

BEBORN BETON
release new digital EP
“Stars [Remixed]”
German synth pop trio BEBORN BETON drop their new digital only EP “Stars [Remixed]”
BEBORN BETON return with the EP “Stars [Remixed]” that offers imaginative reinterpretations of select tracks taken from the acclaimed releases “To the Stars” and “A Worthy Compensation”. The German synth pop trio has collaborated with a host of international remix artists, which are each bringing their unique sonic perspective to BEBORN BETON‘s rich musical tapestry.
BEBORN BETON are building upon the narrative that they established with ‘To the Stars’. In their concept, humanity seeks new horizons after ruining Earth. “Stars [Remixed]” explores the idea of alternative dimensions and timelines. Through this lens, familiar tracks are reborn to reflect the diverse realities encountered in the band’s expansive universe.
For this project, BEBORN BETON enlisted AGENT SIDE GRINDER from Sweden to infuse ‘American Girls’ with their signature synth-driven energy. The German contribution from ROTOSKOP delivers three distinct remixes, which are each named after US American states and present fresh takes on ‘Progeny’ and ‘Daisy Cutter’. A STATE OF FLUXfrom the UK provide their dynamic reinterpretation of ‘American Girls’, and last but never least Israeli musician OREN AMRAM transforms ‘Anorexic World’ into a pulsating club anthem.
The original EP “To the Stars”, BEBORN BETON followed directly in the wake of their ninth album “Darkness Falls Again”. Three new tracks and four remixes were widening the musical range of the album, while still staying true to its spirit both in lyrical content and music.
Tracklist
1. American Girls (Agent Side Grinder Remix)
2. Progeny (Rotoskop Nevada Remix)
3. American Girls (A State of Flux Remix)
4. Daisy Cutter (Rotoskop Georgia Remix)
5. Progeny (Rotoskop Michigan Remix)
6. Anorexic World (Oren Amram Club Mix)
BEBORN BETON were founded by vocalist Stefan Netschio, keyboard player and drummer Stefan Tillmann, and keyboard player Michael Wagner in 1989. The trio set out with the declared aim to keep synth pop relevant and give it meaning. Their first signs of life were three self-released works, ‘Pyre’ (1989), ‘Scythe’ (1991, and ‘Die Stahlbetontour’ (1992) that came out on tape.
Following their first two regular albums “Tybalt” (1993) and “Concrete Ground” (1994), BEBORN BETON found a label-home where they joined renowned acts such as WOLFSHEIM and DE/VISION. Having conquered home, the three electro-musicians rapidly expanded abroad and the 1996 full-length “Nightfall”, followed by “Truth” in 1997, and “Fake” (1999) gained the Germans strong acclaim by critics and fans around the globe.
By the time, “Rückkehr zum Eisplaneten” (‘Return to the Ice-Planet’) was released in 2000, BEBORN BETON had firmly positioned themselves as a headlining act within their scene and toured in all the strongholds of electronic music such as Canada and the US, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden, Switzerland, Poland, and even Russia among other places. In the North of America, the Germans had scored a veritable club hit with the track ‘Another World’ in 1997. Across the Atlantic, the track’s ever-growing popularity finally led to the exclusive US release of a best-of double-album entitled “Tales from Another World” in 2002, which was followed by extensive touring in North America with APOPTYGMA BERZERK in the same year.
Yet the heavy touring and the creatively highly demanding output of so many excellent albums in quick succession started to take its toll. After the release of “Tales from Another World” (2002) and the associated touring, BEBORN BETON went on an extended hiatus.
It took 13 long years, until BEBORN BETON returned to the delight and surprise of their still huge following with a new album on Dependent Recordings. “A Worthy Compensation” (2015) was showered with accolades from the relevant magazines such as an “album tip of the month” in German Sonic Seducer and Orkus Magazine called the record an “undisputed masterpiece”.
Having learned from previous experiences and not to fall back into a relentless production cycle, BEBORN BETON took their time to write another masterpiece. “Darkness Falls Again” has all the ingredients that make synth pop great. Catchy songs that make the legs twitch, a dash of melancholy, a pinch of irony, and a knife-tip of anger.
BEBORN BETON have again delivered music with a meaning with their latest album and this continues full steam ahead on the “To the Stars” EP. Welcome back again, BEBORN BETON!

25.06.2025 - The Names – Swimming With Brian Jones EP

The Names – Swimming With Brian Jones EP
The legendary Belgian post-punk and new wave pioneers THE NAMES return with a new single (and video clip) taken from their new album “Encore!”.
There are songs that shimmer on the surface, and then there are those that dive – deep, slow, inevitable.
“Swimming With Brian Jones” is one of those songs. Not just a track, but a vision. A metaphor soaked in saltwater and memory. A descent through time where guitars ripple like waves and words carry the weight of everything we’ll never say.
Descending a valley, the idea surfaced – sudden, luminous: to swim with Brian Jones. Not the icon, not the myth, but the man – blond, silent, floating just beneath the waterline since July 3, 1969. A final companion in the pool of endings. A quiet metaphor for that one truth we all share, dressed in shimmering echoes from THE NAMES’ early years, when another song called “Swimming” told of youth, hope, and open water.
With “Swimming With Brian Jones”, THE NAMES invite us for one last plunge. A slow-motion ballet in the undertow, where arpeggios clash like light on water, rhythms surge like tides, and – somewhere unexpected – a lone bagpipe appears, drifting from nowhere, calling from the edge of consciousness. What melody did Brian hear as he slipped beneath? Perhaps this one.
The EP unfolds like a submerged dream: the original album version, precise and poignant, full of undercurrents and unfinished thoughts; an exclusive remix by Gilles Robert, awash in dreamy synths and gentle distortion, recasting the song as a fragile trip-pop hallucination; a live version, recorded in Brussels on November 9, 2024 – a moment suspended in time, raw and immediate… and to top it all, a black & white video, filmed under the April sun on a Belgian beach, where sea and sky blur and memories are swallowed by the tide.
As the water rises, the clocks dissolve. The present drifts. We all move slowly toward that last swim.
Will Brian be waiting? Will there be music playing? And when it’s time… will you remember this song?
Another captivating eclectic release from cult act THE NAMES who have etched their place in music history, once emerging from the iconic Factory Records alongside JOY DIVISION and NEW ORDER…

Ashton Nyte says, ‘Made Of Rain’ is a song of hope. It is about getting up and trying again despite the scars life can leave… something transcendental. Similarly, the video shoot was an almost spiritual experience. A celebration of friends and art” Whereas Whitney Tai calls this “a warm amber glow in a velveteen speakeasy where tales of folk and longing send a message from the beyond.

AESTHETIC PERFECTION were founded by the American musician Daniel Graves in Hollywood, Los Angeles in the millennium year 2000. When their debut album “Close to Human” hit the electronic scene, it became an immediate success and laid the foundation for an exceptional career.
Sadly, the pitfalls of modern technology meant that the original files of “Close to Human” got lost in an apocalyptic hardware failure in 2006. Obviously, this loss remained a thorn in the side of the mastermind of AESTHETIC PERFECTION. In 2024, Daniel Graves decided it was time to recreate the album and gathered all the original hardware and samples to painstakingly rebuild the debut track by track.
Although the result closely resembles the debut, it was never a possibility and probably not even a good idea to just create a clone. Years of musical experience also factored in and therefore Graves dubbed the result “Closer to Human” to mark both the continuity as well as the difference in the title.
Following the debut, “AESTHETIC PERFECTION” went on to release eight acclaimed studio albums and also started to perform live, sharing stages with other scene favourites such as COVENANT, COMBICHRIST, and MESH to name but a few. Soon headliner shows followed that turned into sold out events in 2016.
The music of AESTHETIC PERFECTION has been described as aggrotech and future pop among other stylistic designations, while Daniel Graves started using the term industrial pop to describe his music in 2017.
In 2020, AESTHETIC PERFECTION supported the band of RAMMSTEIN frontman Til Lindemann, which was a massive success and will therefore be repeated by LINDEMANN in the autumn of 2025.
Before that happens, it is time to revisit the earliest days of AESTHETIC PERFECTION both live on stage in Europe and the USA and with the reconstructed debut album “Closer to Human” in the summer of 2025.

With roots dating back to the early days of the industrial rock scene, the US band 16Volt also crossed over into related genres as soon as group founder Eric Powell signed his first record deal in 1991 while still in his teens.
Brand new single ‘White Noise’ is taken from a long-awaited album by the band entitled ‘More Of Less’. Scheduled for release on 25th July, it is their first full-length record since 2017, when Powell put 16Volt on a hiatus that lasted seven years.
“‘White Noise’ is a song about feeling unheard, when your voice gets drowned out and it seems like you can’t get a word in or no-one is listening to you,” he explains. “To others, you become just white noise, that static sound of nothingness.”
The single follows just two weeks after a first ever (and already sold out) vinyl pressing of ‘Wisdom’, the group’s 1993 debut album. Powell’s reactivation of 16Volt in 2024 had been marked with the release of ‘Negative On Arrivals’, which combined songs from the group’s previous two records in 2016 and 2017.

BIOGRAPHY
A relentless early ’90s schedule for 16Volt saw Powell work alongside co-producers David Ogilvie (Nine Inch Nails, Skinny Puppy), Keith ‘Fluffy’ Auerbach (Ministry) and Jeff ‘Critter’ Newell (Ministry, Angels & Airwaves, blink-182) for the recording of ‘Wisdom’ (1993), ‘Skin’ (1994) and ‘LetDownCrush’ (1996). With these albums all earning critical praise and pole positions on the US Alternative Chart, the band built a live following as they toured extensively around North America, subsequently signing to Mercury Records.
Producer Bill Kennedy (Nine Inch Nails, Megadeth, Sepultura, Mötley Crüe) was hired to help make ‘SuperCoolNothing’ (1998), which featured film composer Joseph Bishara (Insidious, The Conjuring, Marylin Manson, Danzig), Chris Vrenna (Nine Inch Nails), Mike Peoples (Skrew) and Kraig Tyler (Crazytown), but Powell found himself in the middle of a legal battle prior to album release when Seagram took over the label and cut all its funding. In a genius move, Powell bought back the rights and made a deal with Sony to feature the album in the Playstation game ‘Primal’.
The mid-’00s saw 16Volt sign to Metropolis Records and release the albums ‘FullBlackHabit’ (2007), ‘American Porn Songs’ (2009) and ‘Beating Dead Horses’ (2012) featuring guests Paul Raven (Ministry, Killing Joke, Prong), Steve White (KMFDM) and mix engineer Shaun Thingvold (Strapping Young Lad, Lamb of God).
Meanwhile, the group’s headline tours were supplemented by stints with the likes of Korn, Filter, Fear Factory, Prong, Orgy, Stabbing Westward, Revolting Cocks, Front Line Assembly, My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult and Front 242.
2016 saw the release of ‘The Negative Space’, produced by Marc Jordan (Velvet Revolver, The Cult, Hyro Da Hero, Die Antwoord), with the EP ‘Dead On Arrivals’ following a year later.
