In a bare-bones garage nestled in Richmond, Virginia, Andrew Devin Georgieff first set his creative wheels spinning under the moniker TORTURETWINN. Fueled by newfound sobriety, his debut album, BLOOD LOVE, spills forth like a clandestine confession whispered over late-night diner coffee. It’s raw yet polished, drawing generously from the sepia-tinted sounds of ’80s pop-rock titans like Bruce Springsteen and Tears For Fears, as well as Type O Negative and Johnny Dynamite & The Bloodsuckers.

TORTURETWINN’s latest single, Midnight Craving, blends romantic obsession and the tangled embrace of addiction, cleverly threading together dual narratives without tipping its hand. The track finds Georgieff trading verses with Leesburg artist ViRG (Piano Whitman), whose ethereal vocal response adds a striking counterpoint, turning the song into an intense musical conversation. Her voice arrives gently, like moonlight slipping through a cracked window, effortlessly contrasting Georgieff’s urgent croon.

Midnight Craving is a cinematic duet that pulls you close and refuses to let go, a vivid portrayal of desire and dependence cast in the amber glow of streetlights. It’s meant for midnight drives with the windows down, headed toward no particular destination but deeper into feeling. Georgieff and ViRG together offer an irresistible invitation.

The track’s creation was as spontaneous as it was inspired. Within a mere 24 hours after Georgieff’s initial outreach, ViRG responded with her haunting contribution, raising the song’s emotional stakes exponentially. Enthralled, Georgieff invited ViRG down to Richmond’s famed Bakery Recording Studios, where producer Will Beasley captured the pair’s electric chemistry.

Was als Open-Air-Projekt auf der Freilicht im Harburger Stadtpark begann, wurde zur Initialzündung ganz eigenes Genre: Horror auf der Bühne. Nach ersten Erfolgen mit der Horror-Adaption „Shakespeare“ und der „König in Gelb“ auf der Freilichtbühne bauten sich Arikan und Henriks in Hamburg-Harburg ihre erste eigene auf: das antikyno. Dort wurde nicht nur Theater gespielt, sondern auch Independent-Filme gezeigt und Hörspiele produziert. Schnell zeigte sich: Während der Independent-Film in Deutschland für immer verlorenes Terrain bleiben wird, trifft das Miskatonic Theater mit seinen Lovecraft-Adaptionen, seinen Gruselmusicals und düsteren Komödien einen Nerv. „Der Ruf des Cthulhu“, „Schattenüber Innsmouth“, „Dagon“, „Das Fest“ und „Der Flüsterer im Dunkeln“ füllten die Ränge.
Mit einem festen Ensemble, herausragender technischer Umsetzung und dem Rückhalt einer ungewöhnlich aktiven Fan-Community (inkl. Discord-Server, Memes und Merch) entwickelte sich das Miskatonic Theater zur Anlaufstelle für Horror-, Fantasy- und Theaterfans aus ganz Deutschland. Die ARD-Audiothek verzeichnete mit dem Hörspiel-Podcast „Korridore“ einen der größten Fiction-Erfolge ihres Portfolios – ebenfalls made by Miskatonic.

„Wir sind das einzige Theater, bei dem das Publikum nach einer Vorstellung Memes bastelt und sie auf Discord postet“, sagt Nisan Arikan. Lars Henriks ergänzt: „Unser Theater ist eine Mischung aus Lovecraft, Punkrock und Impro. Wir sind nicht subventioniert, aber dafür sehr lebendig.“

Detroit’s Ritual Howls return with their sixth full-length, Ruin, plunging deeper into their evocative alchemy of industrial rhythms, goth-infused atmospheres, and post-punk angularity. A decade into their spectral career, Ritual Howls have meticulously shaped an album that throbs with raw emotion and dense intrigue, designed for vast, concrete expanses and feverish abandon well past midnight. Ruin embodies their signature duality: bleak yet irresistibly danceable, intimately raw yet elusive and enigmatic.

The album’s lead single Follow the Sun immediately casts an ominous allure, Paul Bancell’s reverberant guitar notes cascading over Chris Samuels’ hypnotic drum programming and Ben Saginaw’s tense, fuzz-laden bass. The track swiftly sets an obsessive tone, exploring themes of overpowering desire, emotional surrender, and nocturnal vulnerability. The refrain conjures imagery of midnight cravings and dangerous dependencies, the kind of visceral longing that splits identities and fuels obsession. As always, Ritual Howls conjure this industrialed Western twang to their music, whose analog lies somewhere between classic acts such as Red Lorry Yellow Lorry and Fields of the Nephilim, and Joy Division and The Sisters of Mercy.

Directed by Christopher Samuels and shot by Paul Biundo, the accompanying video, drenched in nostalgic VHS distortion, was filmed at Detroit’s famed City Club, providing an authentic snapshot of Ritual Howls’ live intensity. The visual captures the band’s compelling performance aesthetic, bending modern reality to evoke the stark rawness and fevered rituals of underground club culture from decades past.

“Playing live has always been the core of who we are, the energy we give on stage comes back to us tenfold from the crowd,” says the band.

Ruin distills the stark intensity of post-industrial Detroit into a vivid offering of expansive tracks, threading a tightrope between tension and euphoria, agony and exaltation. It’s a collection designed to envelop listeners in dim corners of industrial clubs, encouraging full surrender to the night’s electric pulse.

Following 2023’s Virtue Falters, vocalist Paul Bancell moved westward to Los Angeles. The geographical shift meant Ruin evolved largely via digital exchanges before finally materializing in Michigan under the meticulous oversight of trusted sound engineer Adam Cox. “Chris would offer beats, melodies, riffs—sometimes whole tracks,” Bancell explains. “He and Ben would get together and jam, and I contributed guitars remotely.”  The track What Can I Say stitched together an isolated bass riff and a persistent drum pattern to a melody that haunted him for years. The result testifies powerfully to the group’s synergy, thriving despite separation.

Digging For My Spirit leaps forward on a spirited breakbeat, buoyed by Bancell’s assertive baritone, delivering one of the band’s catchiest choruses yet, framed by faint piano keys and understated harmonies, transcending mere pop appeal. The experimental urgency further shines on Never Leaves You, propelled by thunderous drums, razor-edged guitars, and punctuated synth lines that frame starkly poetic lyrics. The sombre, simmering intensity of Bad Idea rises from a synth-laden gloom into an escalating storm of angular guitar notes and fierce percussion.  Enter the Recuser ratchets tension higher, its bass growling through quicksilver transitions before cascading into a vigorous breakdown designed for relentless motion.

Throughout Ruin’s nine chapters, Ritual Howls masterfully harness intricate compositions, inventive rhythms, and profound vocal depth.  This album carves a space both stark and serene, feral yet reassuring—a confident declaration from a band operating at peak form.

Two Point Oh might have started in a speeding car on the Jersey Turnpike, but their roots run deeper…straight back to a high school brawl over a My Chemical Romance shirt. Henry Heissenbuttel still laughs at the memory:

“I saw Cameron getting his ass kicked after high school. A bunch of football players didn’t like Cameron’s handmade T-shirt, which read: ‘If you don’t like My Chemical Romance, forget you.’ I jumped in and helped him out—we’ve been friends ever since.”

Years later, after cycling through bands that never quite hit the mark, fate intervened one crisp autumn afternoon in 2022. Henry and Cameron were on the road, disillusioned and aimless after their latest project collapsed spectacularly. Somewhere in the Garden State, they spotted two hitchhikers, one clutching a Les Paul, the other sporting a battered Soundgarden shirt proudly proclaiming “Louder Than [Heck].” They knew immediately: these were their people. The hitchhikers, brothers Paul and Matt Rose, were seasoned musicians looking for their own turning point. By the time they rolled into a Jersey gas station, a new band was inevitable. Two Point Oh was born.

Today, their sound crashes through speakers, blending the dense, dark heaviness of Soundgarden with Alice In Chains’ hypnotic weight, wrapped neatly in the sharp-edged style of early 2000s Brooklyn bands like Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Interpol. Henry’s gritty vocals battle Paul’s wild, fevered guitar riffs, with Matt’s drum work pushing everything forward. Cameron anchors the madness, his bass lines slyly orchestrating the chaos.

Smile dives deep into the messy business of wrestling trauma and mental illness, especially the kind of anxiety that turns everyday tasks into towering hurdles. Making art that truly connects, that genuinely touches those who walk similar paths, feels nearly impossible. Yet, Smile is precisely that kind of music: forged from chance encounters, wounded egos, and the quiet camaraderie of those who always feel just a step outside of everything else. It’s music born from serendipity, bruised pride, and the unspoken bond of the outsiders.

“I write what I know,” Cameron says. “I live in Brooklyn. My whole world’s a mess—drug addicts, street preachers, poets, scammers, latchkey kids, lovers and loners. People call it ‘indie sleaze’ or whatever. To me, it’s just my reality—made loud with a backbeat.”

Jackie Smile cracks open the record with an untamed howl, then barrels headlong into a raw-edged guitar frenzy. Vocals ring earnest, carrying echoes of midnight college-radio sets, steeped in shoegaze nostalgia and authentic ’90s alt-rock glow. Wet Dreams veers toward heavier territory, pairing fuzz-laden riffs reminiscent of Smashing Pumpkins with the layered, dreamy distortion of My Bloody Valentine. Screams punctuate the atmosphere, vocals surging brilliantly through each swell of sound.

On Fading, which follows an instrumental interlude, the band settles into emotional intricacy; a heartfelt push and pull through fleeting closeness and quiet despair. It navigates the fragile territory of uncertain love, caught in a suspended dance of longing and loss. Each lyric brims with subtle acceptance, a slow unraveling toward inevitable twilight, bringing to mind late-90s sound reminiscent of The Verve Pipe.

The music video, directed by Aleko Syntelis, captures Two Point Oh performing in a desolate, cavernous space defined by crumbling walls and towering columns. Its ambiguity (is it an abandoned gymnasium, a forgotten church basement, or a deserted warehouse?) perfectly reflects the band’s echoing themes of memory and the emotional gravity they grapple with.



Finally, Swallow, opening once again with an instrumental interlude, gently closes the album, bringing introspection to the fore. It’s a softer revelation, a quiet confrontation of personal heartbreak, offering acceptance as the balm to life’s unexpected blows.

„Darkness Invisible“ spielte die Band in Eigenregie im Ansa Studio (Ulvila, Finnland) ein. Gemischt von Jens Bogren und gemastert von Tony Lindgren wurde die Scheibe in den Fascination Street Studios in Örebro. Alvaro Valverde Fernandez übernahm der Gestaltung von Artwork und Layout.

DIRKSCHNEIDER & THE OLD GANG haben mit „Dead Man’s Hand“ ein weiteres Video veröffentlicht. Der Track stammt vom Album „Babylon“, das am 3. Oktober 2025 veröffentlicht werden soll.

Zuvor teilte das Projekt ein Video zu „Strangers In Paradise„:

Als ersten neuen Song stellte die Band „It Takes Two To Tango“ vor, als zweiten „Time To Listen“ und daraufhin „Hellbreaker„.

Zur Besetzung des Projektes gehören: Udo Dirkschneider, langjähriger ACCEPT-Frontmann sowie Gründer von U.D.O. und DIRKSCHNEIDER. Begleitet wird er von Peter Baltes (Bass, Gesang; ACCEPT, DIRKSCHNEIDER), Stefan Kaufmann (Gitarre; ACCEPT, U.D.O.), Mathias Dieth (Gitarre; SINNER, U.D.O.), Udos Sohn Sven Dirkschneider (Schlagzeug; U.D.O., Dirkschneider) und Sängerin Manuela Bibert.

Zwischen Sommer 2020 und Herbst 2021 hat das Projekt drei Singles (‚Where The Angels Fly‘, ‚Face Of A Stranger‘ und ‚Every Heart Is Burning‘) aufgenommen und als Charity-EP ‚Arising‘ zugunsten von Künstler veröffentlicht, die vom Corona-Lockdown betroffen waren.

Die Mathcore / Noise Rock / Post-Punk-Band GOD ALONE hat mit „The Beep Test“ ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist nach „Poll na mBrón“ (2018) und „ETC“ (2022) das dritte Album der Iren und wurde von Joe Clayton (PIJN) co-produziert.

„Das Einzige, was wir in einem professionellen Studio aufgenommen haben, war das Schlagzeug“, sagt Drummer Jack O’Hanlon. „Alles andere haben wir zu Hause gemacht – was für uns neu war. Das hat uns jedoch wirklich ermöglicht, mit Klängen zu experimentieren, weil niemand uns gesagt hat, wir sollten uns beeilen oder besser spielen. Wir konnten uns Zeit nehmen und die Musik so gut wie möglich machen.“

Release-Termin ist der 10. Oktober 2025 via Prosthetic Records. Vorab gibt es einen Video-Clip zum eröffnenden Titeltrack.

„‚The Beep Test‘ ist ein Song, der sich ab dem ersten rasanten Abschnitt wie von selbst geschrieben hat“, sagt Bassist und Sänger Cian Mullane. „Wir waren stark von Athletik und dem Konzept inspiriert, so schnell zu laufen, dass es roboterhaft wird, und dieses Thema zieht sich durch das gesamte Album.“

Die Modern Melodic Metal-Band SECRET RULE hat mit „Silent Pain“ eine dritte Single von ihrem kommenden Album „X“ veröffentlicht.

Der Song fängt die unsichtbaren Kämpfe ein, die wir hinter verschlossenen Türen austragen – wo Schmerz durch Schweigen verdeckt wird und Stärke in Verletzlichkeit zu finden ist.

„‚Silent Pain‘ ist ein Song, mit dem ich mich sehr verbunden fühle – er handelt davon, Emotionen eine Stimme zu geben, die wir oft tief in uns vergraben. Als ich ihn sang, fühlte es sich an, als würde ich etwas loslassen, das ich seit Jahren in mir getragen hatte“, erzählt Sängerin und Songwriterin Angela Di Vincenzo.

Im Juni ist mit „Echoes of the Earth“ die zweite Vorab-Single erschienen. Der Song reflektierte das menschliche Bedürfnis, sich in einer chaotischen, künstlichen Welt wieder mit dem zu verbinden, was wirklich und ursprünglich ist.

Davor ist mit „Just a Sacrifice“ die erste Vorab-Single mitsamt Video-Clip erschienen. Dabei handle es sich um einen Song über den Preis, sich selbst treu zu bleiben in einer Welt, die Konformität verlangt. „X“ ist das zehnte Albums der Italiener, welches am 24. Regulars in the Los Angeles goth and post‑punk music scene have long been in on an open secret: AFI frontman Davey Havok is one of its most ardent evangelists. It’s common to spot him on local dance floors, losing himself to Bauhaus or Specimen. He‘s also often the first in line to see a new band play, singing their praises on the playlists he curates or interviewing them for the SiriusXM show Volume West he co-hosted with music journalist Lyndsey Parker. And in 2024, his synth‑driven side project Blaqk Audio joined The  Sisters  of  Mercy for a 26‑date crusade across North America—proof, if any were needed, that the singer’s goth credentials go deeper than wearing black eyeliner.

Havok’s Batcave spirit frames AFI’s latest metamorphosis: “Behind  the  Clock,” a brooding post‑punk anthem leading into the October  3rd release of the band’s forthcoming album, Silver Bleeds  the Black  Sun, out on Indie label Run  For  Cover Records. The single arrives with a shadow‑drenched film by director Gilbert  Trejo, and finds Havok — sporting a Count  Orlok moustache and stylish black apparel — driving AFI deeper into the underground they’ve always championed.

“Behind  The  Clock” swaps polished alt‑rock for a brooding darkness replete with scratching guitars reminiscent of Bauhaus’ vampiric debut single, with rhythms that churn with industrial heft of Killing Joke’s “War Dance.” The track is more art noir than pop song, as the melody permeates the air with a frost reminiscent of Modern English’s debut LP Mesh & Lace and the brooding gravitas of  The Sisters of Mercy’s early, more experimental singles and EPs .

Shot through vintage lenses, Trejo’s visuals for the track peers at AFI through gearworks, keyholes, and fractured mirrors, bathing the band in the “green‑lit blue” hues of the lyrics.

Speaking on the video for “Behind The Clock,” director Gilbert Trejo explains: “We wanted the video to feel like you’re seeing something you shouldn’t. In effect you are, because that’s how Davey writes lyrics. He’s expressing himself so openly, that you’re let behind this curtain. It’s a world that most artists don’t cut to, marrow deep.”

“Gilbert’s video sublimated the essence of ‘Behind  The  Clock,” Havok adds. “Working with him was a privilege and utter joy. He is an artist of the purest form.”

Produced by guitarist Jade Puget, the ten‑track LP is, in Havok’s words, “dark and other‑worldly, yet stately, biting, and beautiful.” and “starkly different from what we’ve done in the past … a struggle to reconcile existence in a godless dystopia that lacks sanctuary, mystique, reason, and a chance of survival.”

“We started with something that sounded like Echo  &  the Bunnymen and wound up with a mélange of death‑rock and post‑punk: Sisters, Bauhaus, Siouxsie, all the late‑’70s stuff we grew up on, adds guitarist Jade Puget, who has the words “Boys Don’t Cry” and “Love Will Tear Us Apart” tatooed on his arms. And drummer Adam  Carson distills it further: “We leaned into that post‑punk world, embracing that part of our DNA while still sounding like AFI.”

“Gilbert’s video sublimated the essence of ‘Behind  The  Clock,” Havok adds. “Working with him was a privilege and utter joy. He is an artist of the purest form.”

Produced by guitarist Jade Puget, the ten‑track LP is, in Havok’s words, “dark and other‑worldly, yet stately, biting, and beautiful.” and “starkly different from what we’ve done in the past … a struggle to reconcile existence in a godless dystopia that lacks sanctuary, mystique, reason, and a chance of survival.”

“We started with something that sounded like Echo  &  the Bunnymen and wound up with a mélange of death‑rock and post‑punk: Sisters, Bauhaus, Siouxsie, all the late‑’70s stuff we grew up on, adds guitarist Jade Puget. Drummer Adam  Carson distills it further: “We leaned into that post‑punk world, embracing that part of our DNA while still sounding like AFI.”

To usher in the album, AFI will mount a 24‑date North‑American trek — including Madison’s Sylvee (30 Sep) and a Halloween stop in Denver — with synth‑goth luminary TR/ST in tow for most of the dates, before closing at Mexico City’s Corona Capital festival.

Collapsing Scenery is excavated from the brilliantly fevered imaginations of LA provocateur Reggie Debris and Philly underground icon Don Devore. Together they concoct a cauldron bubbling with electronic discord, airy elegance, sardonic political wit, global ennui, punk spirit, and disco delirium, with generous splashes of shoegaze and acid for good measure. It’s the sort of music that happens when genre boundaries politely leave the room, exhausted.

Their guest list of collaborators reads like the after-party you wished you attended: Genesis P-Orridge rubbing elbows with Jamaican dancehall royalty Ninjaman and Tippa Lee, Jennifer Herrema trading barbs with Palestinian rappers DAM, no-wave renegade James Chance sipping cocktails alongside Miho Hatori of Cibo Matto fame, and avant-pop visionaries Avalon Lopez De Magaña and L’ESPIRAL mixing metaphors at the punch bowl.

With Magic Button, off the upcoming album Stand-Up Tragedy, Collapsing Scenery hits fresh peaks of sonic and lyrical exploration. There’s a thrilling schizophrenia here, shifting seamlessly from blaring waves of analogue bedlam to feather-light whispers of tenderness. Their lyrics, intricately layered and steeped in sharp cultural nods, unfold like frantic postmodern poetry…imagine the Beatles during their White Album phase conspiring with Throbbing Gristle and Frank Tovey, overseen by the phantasmagoric presence of Karlheinz Stockhausen and Pierre Schaffer.

“‘Pressing the magic button’ is old CIA slang for assassination,” says Reggie Debris. “This is a song about unintended consequences, blowback, and imperial hubris. After decades of engendering insurgencies, rogue states, rebellions and civil wars, we have learned no lessons from our myriad foreign policy failures. We are caught in an endless cycle of retribution and reaction, punctuated by hasty attempts at cleanup and moral grandstanding.”

Charlotte Ercoli’s striking visuals for Magic Button further escalate the delightful confusion, channeling decades of foreign policy misadventures into an urgent commentary on the endless cycles of insurgency, rebellion, and reaction. A surrealist…well, really, Dadaist…romp unfolds: a Peter Lorre cartoon furiously pounds piano keys, a jittery nightcap-clad gentleman squirms in existential dread, and a mysterious lady of dubious origins moonlights bizarrely as a chiropractor. Libraries offer no sanctuary here; escape is futile…and these poor souls in the video echo the cyclical madness of misguided global intervention.

In 2025, as we sift through the rubble of modern civilization, Collapsing Scenery holds court, calling unapologetically for amplified rage and abundant affection, furiously juxtaposing chaos with clarity, irony with earnestness. The duo has crafted a musical séance that conjures your inner imp, shakes you by the lapels, and insists (with wicked charm) that the end of the world could, after all, be one hell of a good party.

Collapsing Scenery has been holding true to their ambitions with this latest effort: to create a truly new music that speaks directly to the anxieties of the time, swathed in arresting visuals, and harbouring a deep commitment to calling out abuses of power wherever they arise.

“The mission statement was always to be pretty overt in our politics and fairly activist as a band,” says Debris, “but lyrically I’ve gotten a little bit more oblique than I was at the beginning. Maybe that’s just my own perception of it, but I feel like part of that comes from the strange dream world aspect of modern life that I’m describing. I’ve come to realize over the years that sometimes pure abstraction or obliqueness or poetry is the only way to really make sense of the insanity that you’re faced with.”

Stand-Up Tragedy holds a cracked and dirty mirror up at the wreckage that is the world in 2025, as well as their own lives within it. Away from the music, the lyrics are, as usual, hyper-literate screeds wrapped in layers of cultural reference and raw human emotion. Yet while the purpose of the band has stayed relatively resolute over the years, their application and approach has shifted and evolved. Stand-Up Tragedy is their latest incarnation and manifestation, designed to help make sense of a world that makes less and less sense each and every day.

“This record is definitely born of a lot of personal pain,” admits Debris. “And it was very much a Covid record, too, so there’s an apocalyptic feeling behind it all—there was, honestly, a thought that making music or art felt almost pointless in some way. Everyone and everything was so hermetically sealed and we were all unsure if we’d ever actually be able to put stuff out or perform again, so the idea of performative tragedy just really fit the of mood of the album.”

On Sunday evening, the American Progressive Metal institution played a sold-out show at the den Atelier in Luxembourg-City, thrilling fans of all phases of the band’s career with their energetic performance.

Die Mittelalter-Rocker SALTATIO MORTIS gibt es jetzt schon seit 25 Jahren und über diese Zeit hat es die Truppe geschafft, die zahlreiche Mitbewerber-Konkurrenz zumindest erfolgstechnisch gesehen links zu überholen. Ähnlich wie die alten Platzhirsche von IN EXTREMO können SALTATIO MORTIS inzwischen ebenso auf 5 Nummer 1-Alben, Goldene Schallplatten und eine eigene Burgen-Tour zurückblicken. Dieses Kunststück ist ihnen mit einer gewissen aalglatten Anpassung an den „bunten“ Zeitgeist (LORD OF THE LOST lassen grüßen) und durch das bedienen gleich aller Strömungen des Mittelalter-Genres, sei es nun Rock, Metal, Punk, Folk, Pagan, Shanty oder sogar Irish-Folk, gelungen. Das kann man als vielseitig oder vielfältig, aber auch als nur gesichtslos, wischiwaschi und mit dem Strom schwimmen bezeichnen! Das 25jährige Jubiläum wird natürlich zünftig mit einer Best Of gefeiert und dabei wurde nicht gespart, sondern richtig geklotzt. Neben einer 3fach CD-Ausgabe und einem 5 LP-Schuber, gibt es für die harten Fans noch eine Deluxe-Box, die neben den CDs und Platten noch eine exklusive Kassette + das diverses Merchandise enthält. Zum größten Teil wurden die insgesamt 50 Titel umfassende Werkschau durch ein Online-Voting der Fans compiliert, welche dann durch die Band mit dem neuen Song „Gardyloo“ bzw. einer Kollaboration mit der schottischen Piraten-Metal-Band ALESTROM und zwei Neuinterpretationen garniert wird. Zum einen wäre das eine Orchesterversion von „Wo sind die Clowns?“ mit den Prager Sinfonikern und der „Spielmannsfluch“ (Unitet), bei dem fast alles was Rang und Namen in der Szene hat, mit dabei sind. Unter anderen sind das COVUS CORAX, SCHANDMAUL, SUBWAY TO SALLY, FIDDLER’S GREEN, TANZWUT, MR. HURLEY & DIE PULVERAFFEN, VERSENGOLD und die bereits oben erwähnten LORD OF THE LOST. Da kommt zusammen, was zusammen gehört und natürlich sind SALTATIO MORTIS auch dieses Jahr in Wacken vertreten! Wer es also mag, bekommt dieses Jahr die volle Packung SALTATIO MORTIS und der Erfolg gibt ihnen ja auch recht! Ich für meinen Teil (wenn es denn wirklich mal sein muss) halte es dann lieber mit IN EXTREMO, denn die wirken sympathischer, kerniger, solider und natürlicher auf mich, aber jeder wie er es mag. Schon das erste Techno Album der Kolumbianerin ELA MINUS , das ebenfalls beim britischen Kultlabel Domino Records raus kam, hatte mich musikalisch begeistert. Das war catchy Techno Pop wie ich ihn mag. Zudem hatte ELA hier thematisch einige belastende, negative Momente ihres Lebens umgesetzt. Etwa eine durchtanzte Clubnacht, die im Hospital endete oder einige schwierige Beziehungen dargestellt. Die Musikerin und Produzentin aus Bogota residiert aber nun in Brooklyn und hat auf ihrer zweiten Platte „Dia“ – das in Spanisch für TAG steht – diesmal clubtaugliche Beats, chillige Klangwelten, elektrisierende Sound-Schnipsel und ihr musikalisches Können und absolutes Synth-Fachwissen auf ihrer Platte vereint. Die Tracks wurden mit einigen analogen Synthies umgesetzt. Das Ganze ist Sound-technisch gleichzeitig angelehnt an Vorbilder wie AIR oder DAFT PUNK, späte 70s TANGERINE DREAM und zugleich auch spätere KRAFTWERK. Die 10 Songs mit ca 35 Minuten Spielzeit sind außerdem teils Jazz-angehauchte Techno Club Tracks und von ELA stimmlich unterfüttert. Sie bauen sich schön langsam auf und explodieren dann gewaltig in treibenden , dance-lastigen hypnotischen Beats und hymnischen Klanglandschaften. Die Tracks werden von ELA übrigens alle komplett selbst geschrieben/produziert und die äußerst kreative Künstlerin hat sogar Jazz Drums am Berklee College of Music Boston studiert. Als selfmade Musikerin hat sich ELA übrigens die huldvolle Vorgabe gegeben, das kein Ton ihrer Sound-Landschaften von einem Computer kommt, das heißt, das Sie nur Hardware zum aufnehmen ihrer Platten einsetzt. Das kommt wohl aber auch daher, das sie in ihrer bisherigen musikalischen Schaffenszeit fast nur rein akustische Instrumente spielte und in einem ihrer Jobs hat sie sogar modulare Synthies repariert und gebaut, da ist also geballtes Fachwissen mit dabei. Produziert wird also nur mit Synth, Drum Machine, Sequencern sowie Samplern. Das hebt ELA von vielen Künstlern ab und auf der neuen Platte fällt mir z.B. sofort der Song „Broken“ incl. Video auf, der total eingängig poppig mit ELAS Gesang daherkommt. Im catchy Lied „Idols“ geht es um falsche Vorbilder, die man favorisiert und bei „Onwards“ geht es wahrlich KRAFTWERK mäßig zu. In „Upwards“ incl. Video kommt der Clubtänzer durch und in der hymnischen Elektroballade „Human“ klingt der Gesang etwas nach ENYA, was ja nicht das schlechteste ist. Die Sound-Tüftlerin präsentiert dem Hörer auf der CD Ihre persönlichen Geschichten, u.a. mit Liebesbeziehungen mit dominanten Männern und wie sich ELA davon emanzipiert hat, die ganze Herangehensweise ihrer Veröffentlichungen hat in der Elektro Szene sicherlich etwas ganz Einzigartiges. ELA möchte Lieder erstellen, die die Menschen über Jahre hinweg begleiten, das ist ihr mit der neuen Platte sicherlich schon jetzt sehr gelungen.
