Die Heavy Stoner Rock-Band FRIENDSHIP COMMANDERS hat mit „X“ einen Video-Clip ihres kommenden Albums „Bear“ veröffentlicht. Es ist das vierte Album der US-Amerikaner aus Nashville und wurde erneut von Kurt Ballou produziert. Release-Termin ist der 10. Oktober 2025 via Magnetic Eye Records.

Vorab hat das Duo gleich zwei weitere Singles veröffentlicht. In „Keeping Score“ setzt sich Songwriterin Buick Audra mit Zyklen von Frauen auseinander, die Mädchen verletzen, weil sie sich in ihrer Existenz bedroht fühlen, etwas, das sie selbst erlebt hat.

Die Post-Metal / Sludge-Band CRANIAL hat mit „Structures“ ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist nach „Dark Towers / Bright Lights“ (2017) und „Alternate Endings“ (2019) das dritte Album der Deutschen aus Würzburg rund um Gitarrist Michael Melchers (Ex-OMEGA MASSIF).

Nach den emotionalen Belastungen der letzten Jahre – einer globalen Pandemie, persönlichen Verlusten, dem Tod eines engen Freundes und ihres ehemaligen Schlagzeugers (Cornelius Merlin starb im November 2024) sowie dem langsamen Zerfall einst stabiler Beziehungen – hat die 2014 gegründete Band diese Erfahrungen in ein Werk einfließen lassen, das im Kern vom Überleben handelt.

„Structures“ wurde von Jens Siefert gemixt und von Brad Boatright gemastert. Das Cover-Artwork stammt von Oliver Humel. Release-Termin ist der 2. Oktober 2025 via Moment of Collapse Records. Vorab gibt es den Opener „Guidelines“ zu hören.

Die Metalcore-Band ESCHALON hat mit „Zealot“ eine weitere neue Single mitsamt Video-Clip veröffentlicht. Der Song setzt sich mit den Gefahren unhinterfragter Glaubenssysteme auseinander und prangert die Ketten der Indoktrination an, die oft schon von Geburt an angelegt werden. Er sei eine wütende Auseinandersetzung mit religiösen Strukturen, die Gehorsam verlangen, Zweifel unterdrücken und Neugier verteufeln.

Im Frühling ist die Single „Denial“ – mit Gast-Sänger Ashe O’Hara (Ex-TESSERACT) –  mitsamt Video-Clip erschienen.

„Der Song beschäftigt sich mit der Ablehnung von Zurückweisung, wo obsessive und egoistische Tendenzen mit brodelnder Wut und bitterem Bedauern aufeinanderprallen. Der Erzähler kämpft darum, sein besitzergreifendes Verhalten mit der Verwüstung, die er verursacht hat, in Einklang zu bringen, indem er die Schuld projiziert, während er die Last seiner eigenen Fehler trägt. Im weiteren Verlauf des Liedes unterbrechen Momente der Selbsterkenntnis die Wahnvorstellungen und offenbaren den inneren Krieg zwischen Zwang und Verantwortlichkeit“, erklärt die Band.

Zuvor hat die Band mit „Delirium“ eine weitere Single mitsamt Video-Clip veröffentlicht.

„Textlich zeichnet der Song ein erschütterndes Bild von Verzweiflung und innerer Zerrissenheit, in dem der Erzähler in einem selbst auferlegten Gefängnis des Wahnsinns gefangen ist“, erklärt die Band. „Unter der Last seiner eigenen Gedanken kämpft er gegen den Drang an, Hilfe zu suchen, gelähmt durch die Angst vor sozialer Stigmatisierung und den erschreckenden Konsequenzen, wenn er seine inneren Dämonen offenbart. Während die Grenzen zwischen Vernunft und Wahnsinn verschwimmen, sehnt er sich nach einem letzten Atemzug, um seine Qualen zu beenden.“

Vor einigen Monaten hat die Band mit „Shallow“ eine weitere Single mitsamt Video-Clip veröffentlicht. Der Song reflektiert das Kindheitstrauma von Sänger Brad Makinson, der von seinem Peiniger lebendig begraben wurde:

„Als Kind musste ich körperliche, geistige und emotionale Qualen ertragen, die mir ein Tyrann zufügte. Von Angst gelähmt, trug ich die Last meiner Qualen im Stillen und war in einem Kreislauf aus Isolation und Verzweiflung gefangen. Selbst diejenigen, die mir am nächsten standen, wussten nichts vom Ausmaß meines Leidens, während ich darum kämpfte, den Verrat eines „Freundes“, der zum Peiniger wurde, zu verarbeiten. Das erschütterndste Kapitel meiner Geschichte ereignete sich eines Tages auf einem örtlichen Spielplatz, wo meine Unschuld erstickt wurde und meine Kindheitsträume sich in Albträume verwandelten. Im Alter von zehn Jahren wurde ich mit meiner eigenen Sterblichkeit konfrontiert, als ich gezwungen wurde, mein eigenes Grab zu schaufeln, nur um von meinem Peiniger lebendig begraben zu werden. Glücklicherweise griff ein Passant ein, der mich aus den Klauen des Todes zog und mir ein frühes Grab ersparte.“

Vor wenigen Monaten ist mit „Helios“ die erste Single mitsamt Video-Clip erschienen. Es war der erste Release der Engländer aus Cambridge und ist dem vor einem Jahr verstorbenen Karl Riley (CARCER CITY) gewidmet. Als Gast wirkte Neema Askari (FELL SILENT) mit.

Born on Chicago’s North Side in the early 1980s, The Penthouse Plants were the kind of artful post‑punk curiosity whose reputation rarely drifted beyond city limits. Led by singer‑songwriter John X. Belmonte, with close collaborators Uli Diamond and Rick Owen, the group found a shared language in that era’s adventurous cross‑pollination—art‑rock flair, new wave pulse, and the grittier, pre‑industrial undercurrent of the Midwest. They haunted underground rooms, polished a clutch of home‑recorded demos, and absorbed lessons from glam’s elegant provocateurs (Roxy Music, Bowie) and synth pioneers (Gary Numan, Heaven 17). And yet: no official releases, no breakout moment—just a tantalizing footnote in Chicago’s rich post‑punk tapestry.

Fast‑forward to the present’s digital twilight, and Belmonte has reopened the archive, breathing studio life into songs written nearly forty years ago. Beginning in 2023, The Penthouse Plants started unveiling a run of singles that feels like a message in a bottle washing ashore—vintage ideas, newly recorded with modern clarity. A revolving cast of players, including original bassist Bob Anderson and guitarist Jim Miller, helps capture the band’s “old‑new” chemistry. The group neatly frames themselves as post‑punk / synthpop / pre‑gothic rock, and the results land right where those worlds overlap: moody machines, elegant melodrama, and a touch of nocturnal romance.

“Dancing In The Dark” (No, not the Springsteen song.) is where The Penthouse Plants’ rebirth snaps into focus. The track moves in the half‑light between tribute and invention, nodding to goth‑inflected synth of the late ’80s while staking its own silhouette. You can feel the cool draft of Clan of Xymox, catch a baritone’s brush that hints at Peter Murphy, and glimpse the lacquered poise of Bryan Ferry—but what lingers are the song’s particulars: analogue synths that are precise and patient, each note placed like a nocturnal streetlight; flanged guitar filigree and decisive percussion that lend a granular, post‑punk edge; and Belmonte’s hushed, dusky vocal tracing a path through the fog.

It’s that balance—cold electronic elegance vs. soft‑focus nostalgia—that makes “Dancing In The Dark” feel both 1983 and 2025. A lyric visualizer underscores the mood with nocturnal imagery, and the track has quietly circulated through darkwave playlists and underground corners where this kind of midnight architecture is appreciated.

Diego RQ’s The Vamp Who Took Your Name arrives straight out of the shadows on a lost Betamax tape found in a thrift-store crypt. A Chilean-born storyteller fluent in the universal tongue of heartache since fourteen, Diego delivers a stylish nocturne that slinks effortlessly between cinema and synth-soaked gloom, spinning emotional yarns fit for nocturnal drives or candlelit séances.

The Vamp Who Took Your Name is equal parts midnight cinema and synth-laden séance: music tailor-made for those who wear sunglasses at night (indoors, at their own peril).

The track conjures velvet curtains, neon-lit rain, and all the smoldering charisma of Bowie and Tim Curry in their debonairly dangerous primes. Vocals float somewhere between seductive whisper and playful warning, tempting you into a shadowy rendezvous infused with post-punk pulse, smoky jazz undertones, and elegant goth allure. Guitars glide languidly around you, guided by rhythms hypnotic enough to raise your inner goth from its slumber. This is the twilight realm of smoke machines, crushed velvet jackets, and mascara-streaked confessions shared beneath neon-lit windows.

Listening feels like discovering a forgotten ’80s cult classic, velvet capes and all.  It’s the sort of tune playing in teen movies as the misunderstood hero gazes moodily out a window, caught between contemplating the infinite void and Friday’s prom. Best experienced loudly after midnight, preferably in rooms ablaze with questionable choices.

Diego RQ warmly invites you into his cryptic mausoleum of cool; and, like any respectable vampire host, he never bites without permission. You might hesitate at the entrance, sure, but trust us, this siren song is worth the risk.

This September marks a new chapter for East Coast musician J. Trafford. His first collection of lyrics, Why is My Heart in My Throat?: Selected Lyrics of J. Trafford, will be published on September 1, 2025. The volume spans two decades of songwriting, presented with an introduction by writer and comedian Megha Pai, and will be available in both hardcover and ebook formats.

Trafford began making music in Pittsburgh in 2002 and has since roamed through a wide range of projects. He fronts the punk-glam outfit Nowhere Wolves, recorded three solo albums of chamber pop between 2005 and 2008, and later guided the post-punk-pop group Suavity’s Mouthpiece from 2008 to 2019. More recently, he spent four years with the indie rock band Sommelier. Across these ventures, Trafford has maintained a reputation for pushing against the ordinary, balancing sharp pop instincts with restless experimentation.

The collection reintroduces his work in a new light. By gathering lyrics that cross projects, styles, and decades, Trafford offers readers a clear line through his creative life. The book also features reproductions of flyers from the Pittsburgh underground—many designed by Trafford himself—that capture the texture of the scene he came up in. This pairing of text and ephemera underscores not only the songs but the community and culture that shaped them.

On the page, Trafford’s lyrics move like liturgy with teeth—archaic turns perched beside modern cruelties. The stanza “’Twixt the burning beams glissade I” frames the collection’s thesis: love as intoxicant, idyll crossed by ordnance, the body snagged in history’s machinery. That tension ripples outward—body‑horror metamorphosis in “I Am A Goddamned Bird,” blasphemous glamour in “Rejected By the Denied” (“where archangels reign”), and gallows jokes that sucker‑punch tenderness in “Killjoy” and the acid meta‑lament “Let Grief Begin With Me.” Even the title phrase resurfaces mid‑song—“Plainclothes” asks, “Why is my heart in my throat?”—so the book reads less as miscellany than as one quickened pulse: moody melancholia meeting fiery anthems, a poet testing how confession, satire, and survival can share the same line.

Formed in 2015 in Geneva, Switzerland, Raskolnikov has always been more than a name lifted from Dostoyevsky’s Crime and Punishment. The Russian word raskol (meaning “schism”) carries their manifesto: to fracture conventions, to stand at the split between reason and madness, and to live in the breach. For a decade, they’ve traversed the terrain where coldwave’s chill collides with post-punk’s pulse and shoegaze’s dense guitar swells.

This summer, the Franco-Spanish-Swiss quartet marks ten years with Stockholm, an eight-track release arriving barely six months after Gorgon’Zola. It’s equal parts reflection and forward stride: five earlier pieces, now Stockholm I through V, rebuilt and sharpened, joined by three newcomers (VI, VII, VIII).

Stockholm, as five of their already released songs, evokes a city of distant memories, symbol of coldness, and despite it all, strength, beauty, appeasement, and maybe struggles for the band’s spirit, Mathieu. That mix of remoteness and resolve threads through the album’s core.

Pablo Garrido and Julien Larrochelle on guitars, Jérôme Blum on drums, and Mathieu Pawełski-Szpiechowycz on bass and vocals give the material a taut, refined energy. Guitars spiral, bass lines stay deliberate, and lyrics, delivered in English, French, and Russian—merge Baudelaire’s languor with Dostoyevsky’s moral weight, yet remain deeply personal. The cover, Corot’s Orphée, ramenant Eurydice des Enfers, frames it as a meditation on loss. Orpheus reaches the Underworld, soothes Cerberus, wins Hades, and still fails. His body ends scattered on the shore. Like its namesake, Stockholm holds beauty even while letting go.

The record opens with Stockholm I, its expansive guitar work shaped into a slow rock ballad, somewhere between INXS’s smoky sway, Interpol’s droll delivery and Bauhaus’s spectral bite. Stockholm II follows with the sleek snap of Interpol fused to the gleam of New Order, a tension between motion and restraint. On Stockholm III, the pace drops as barked vocals rise above soaring guitars and a placid bassline, carrying a shoegaze-streaked weight.

Stockholm IV shifts toward earnest urgency, its delivery evoking Midnight Oil’s impassioned edge, before Stockholm V brings a more ritualistic cadence, chanting vocals under guitars that glint with Echo and the Bunnymen’s melodic shimmer, tinged again with Bauhaus’s shadowed hues.

The final arc belongs to the new works. Stockholm VI leans deep into intensity, its lyrical pathos drawing out the ache behind every note. Stockholm VII lifts upward with a more panoramic sweep, recalling the grandeur of Clan of Xymox. Closing the album, Stockholm VIII feels like a farewell to earthly confines, charting a whimsical yet deliberate ascent toward celestial heights. The repeated vision of “great heights” conveys transcendence, connection, and a permanent place beneath an endless sky.

Mixing took place at Studio Young and Cold in Augsburg with Daniel Hallhuber (Bleib Modern, Rue Oberkampf), mastering in Brooklyn by Josh Bonati (The Soft Moon, Slowdive). The result is crisp but unvarnished, the edges intact.

In ten years, they’ve released three studio albums, a live LP, and sold through each pressing. Tours have carried them across Europe, through lineup changes and long nights. Stockholm feels like the hinge between chapters; the culmination of what’s come before and a quiet nod toward what’s next. It’s not a grand reinvention, but a refining fire: Raskolnikov stepping back into the world they’ve built, knowing it well enough now to bend it.

ROBSE, die Epic Metal Band von  ex-EQUILIBRIUM-Sänger Robert-Martin Dahn haben einen neuen Drummer: Ab sofort gehört Yannick Argast (FINAL DEPRAVITY, GEFRIERBRAND, ex-OUTRAGE) zum Line-up.

Argast ersetzt Marius Berendsen und war bereits bei den ROBSE Konzerten bei der HEIMBURGER METALNACHT, dem METAL UNITED FESTIVAL und der LEYENDAS DEL ROCK mit von der Partie.

Yannicks Statement:

„Vor einem Jahr hatte ich die Ehre, auf dem Area 53 Festival in Österreich die Bekanntschaft dieser feinen Gruppe machen zu dürfen. Damals wurde ich gefragt, ob ich an den Drums aushelfen könnte. Knapp ein Jahr später kam wieder ein Anruf. Dieses Mal mit der Anfrage, Teil der Band zu werden. Und so darf ich freudig verkünden, nun Teil der Band zu sein. Ich freue mich auf kommende Shows und auf alles was in der Zukunft noch ansteht!“

Die Modern Metalcore-Band AVIANA hat eine neue Single online gestellt: „Evermore“ ist in Bild und Ton bei YouTube zu sehen.

Auch die Tracks „Storm Ablaze“ sowie „Father“ kann man via YouTube als Clip ansehen und folgen auf das Musikvideo „Delirium“.

Im September 2023 teilte das Quartett zuletzt „As Above, So Below“ als Visualizer-Clip bei YouTube. Zuvor veröffentlichte die Gruppe das Album „Corporation“ (2022).

Live erleben kann man die neuen Songs im Herbst 2025: AVIANA gehen auf Headline-Tour und haben mit THE GLOOM IN THE CORNER, DIAMOND CONSTRUCT und ATENA gleich drei Support-Acts mit dabei.

Die spanische Black Metal-Band GJALLARHORN’S WRATH kündigt ihr Debütalbum „The Silver Key“ für 5. September 2025 an. Erscheinen wird die Platte via Non Serviam Records auf CD, Vinyl sowie digital. Zum Track „A Silent Scream“ hat die Gruppe außerdem ein Video produziert.

Einen ersten Vorgeschmack gibt es außerdem in Form von „Wiccan Wyrd“ bei YouTube.

Das kanadische Progressive Rock-Projekt CROWN LANDS steht seit Sommer 2025 bei InsideOut Music unter Vertrag. Um den Deal zu feiern hat das Duo eine Instrumental-EP mit dem Titel „Ritual I“ veröffentlicht. Auch der zweite Teil „Ritual II“ ist mittlerweile via bandcamp als Stream abrufbar.

Das Artwork stammt von Justyna Koziczak. Über den zweiteiligen „Ritual“-Zyklus spricht Kevin Comeau:

„Das Ritual-Projekt zeigt eine ganz andere Seite von Crown Lands. Während die elektrische Seite der Band voller Wucht und Drama ist, zeigen die Rituals eine eher nachdenkliche und meditative Seite unserer Musik und dienen als kosmische Quelle für die Hauptstoryline unseres nächsten Albums.“

Erscheinen werden beide EPs zudem am 3. Oktober 2025 auch als limitierte Doppel-Vinyl-Fassung.

Derzeit arbeiten CROWN LANDS an ihrem dritten regulären Studioalbum, Details hierzu stehen jedoch noch aus.

Immerhin sind sie konsequent: Die mit „Conquering“ (2021) forcierte Entwicklung setzen EMPLOYED TO SERVE vier Jahre später nahtlos fort. Aus der Hardcore-Szene geboren, haben die Metal-Anteile nun endgültig die Überhand gewonnen – allein Justine Jones‘ herrlich rohe Screams erinnern noch deutlich an die Wurzeln der Band. Davon abgesehen legen die Briten noch größeres Augenmerk auf die stilistische Bandbreite, die auf „Fallen Star“ von der energischen Thrash-Keule „Treachery“ bis zum melancholischen Titeltrack reicht, wo gar balladeske Züge durchblitzen.

Dass beide Extreme direkt am Anfang der Platte stehen, ist sicherlich kein Zufall. EMPLOYED TO SERVE spielen mit offenen Karten und erklären im gleichen Atemzug der Monotonie den Krieg. Energisch knüpft „Atonement“ an, das mit seinem klar gesungenen Refrain gut ins Ohr geht, ein rockiges Solo einstreut und dank Will Ramos (LORNA SHORE) noch dazu mit einem starken Feature aufwarten kann – insbesondere, weil der Deathcore-Shouter hier seine Singstimme erklingen lässt.

„Fallen Star“ hält insgesamt drei starke Gastbeiträge bereit
Zwar landen nicht alle Singalongs auf „Fallen Star“ so treffsicher wie hier („The Renegades“), dafür aber treffen die beiden anderen Gastbeiträge zuverlässig ins Schwarze. „Whose Side Are You On?“ mit KILLSWITCH ENGAGE-Frontmann Jesse Leach schraubt die Intensität schlagartig nach oben, um in einem genretypischen Breakdown zu kulminieren, nachdem Serena Cherry (SVALBARD) „Last Laugh“ eine ätherische Leichtigkeit geschenkt hatte.

Verschwunden sind derweil die ehedem typischen Southern- / Sludge-Einflüsse; obwohl Gitarrist Sammy Urwin weiterhin unterstützenden Gesang bereitstellt, fügt er sich nun in gewöhnlichere Muster ein. Schade ist das, weil damit auch etwa Profil flöten geht – aufgrund der stärkeren Präsenz von Synthesizern wie u.a. im schleppenden „Breaks Me Down“ vermutlich aber ein nötiger Schritt, um die Kohärenz zu wahren.

EMPLOYED TO SERVE machen keine Abstriche beim Härtegrad
Das gelingt im Gegenzug von Anfang bis Ende: „Fallen Star“ ist ein schlüssiges und abwechslungsreiches Werk, mit dem sich EMPLOYED TO SERVE tendenziell weiter vom Core-Teil ihrer Musik lösen und dem Metal zuwenden, als hätten sie ein potenziell größeres Publikum im Visier. Jenes auch zu erreichen, scheint uns nicht ausgeschlossen, zumal das Quintett beim Härtegrad keine Abstriche macht. Ein Album für eine breitere Masse, das trotzdem die harten Bandagen aufzieht? EMPLOYED TO SERVE sind eben doch konsequent, in dem was sie tun.

Das Industrial / Noise-Project GRIDFAILURE hat mit dem Video-Clip zu „This Was More Than Just Killing… It Was Art“ eine zweite Single ihres kommenden Albums „Sixth Mass-Extinction Skulduggery III“ veröffentlicht.

Es ist der dritte Teil einer fünfteiligen Album-Reihe. Die ersten drei Alben umspannen den gegenwärtigen Zerfall der Gesellschaft, die sich des Anthropozäns, in das wir eingetaucht sind, nicht bewusst ist.

„Die gewalttätigen Kapitel dieses Triptychons verkörpern einen Vorboten und prophezeien die postapokalyptischen Schrecken, die in den bevorstehenden Schlusskapiteln der Albumreihe – „Teeth Collection“ und „Drought Stick“ – erzählt werden“, heißt es von Seiten des von David Brenner geführten Projekts.
