After nearly a decade of “radio silence,” Merchandise returns with the new single “You Shot Me Down”. Issued via frontman Carson Cox’s newly established imprint Symbol + Sound, the track signals the long-anticipated arrival of the band’s sixth full-length album, which has been in development since 2019. Marked by chiming guitars and Cox’s distinctive baritone, the song underscores the band’s enduring ability to merge intimacy with widescreen ambition, despite years of geographical distance between its members.

“Here is a new song from wMerchandise called You Shot Me Down,” says Carson Cox. “I’ve been working on our 6th LP since 2019. It’s hard to say how long it should take to finish an album in the chaos of these past years but it’s coming soon, just not quite yet. All the same I wanted to share something, after a long time of radio silence.

He adds, “This is for the fans that, after all these years, still ask me for new music. Myself and my bandmates all live in different cities, we have different lives now but I still have more to say with this project. It’s a lot harder to make anything work now as we all know but I don’t feel like I should let it stop me. I know music can still open hearts.”

In the years since their previous albums on 4AD, including After the End (2014) and A Corpse Wired for Sound (2016), Cox has remained active with projects outside Merchandise. He fronts the industrial-punk outfit Death Index alongside Marco Rapisarda—known for managing Boy Harsher and The Soft Moon—and has explored a more synth-driven, noir-pop direction under his solo alias Romeo Blu. Meanwhile, Vassalotti has issued solo work through Symbol + Sound  (2019’s  Guitar Dream), and Brady has worked behind the scenes, handling tour management and sound for Nuovo Testamento.

“Merch ain’t dead, we’ve been slowly and steadily working on new material over the past seven years,” says David Vassalotti. “This is just a taste. Much more to come (LP perhaps). Life gets harder, getting together with friends to be creative gets harder (esp w/ a thousand miles in between), but it’s still so satisfying to collaborate with my brothers on this project .”

“You Shot Me Down” serves as both a gesture to longtime fans and a declaration of intent. Even with distance, passing years, and the shifting terrain of underground music, Merchandise continues to create with purpose. The track shimmers with the crystalline jangle of Johnny Marr and is anchored by Cox’s velvety baritone—more expressive and dynamic here than ever. It’s a confident, resounding return after nine years of radio silence.

It is a wasting that comes not in sudden violence but in slow and secret seepage, like water drawn from a stone until nothing remains but dust. Love, so named, becomes a trickster: first gentle, then ravenous, feeding upon the marrow of one’s days. Its promises rot in the throat; its touch chills more than it warms. What was once the music of closeness turns to a dirge, repeating until the soul itself grows weary of hearing. In that exhaustion lies a terrible nakedness, a knowing that all tenderness has been emptied, leaving only the raw silence of what is lost.

With this bleak heartache in mind, Scale to Weigh All Tears is the centerpiece of New Miserable Experience‘s latest LP, Absent Lovers. This Philadelphia band writes songs that sound pulled from the marrow: fragile, furious, and strangely cinematic. Born from file-traded fragments between David Grossman of Rosetta and Joshua Mahesh Kost of Model Prisoner, the project quickly grew legs. Bruce McMurtrie, also of Rosetta, added his weight, Brett Bamberger arrived from Revocation, and later Brody Uttley of Rivers of Nihil gave the group its final form. Together they built a language that mixes synth’s icy precision with the heartache of post-punk and the sprawl of shoegaze.

The song’s guitars glow with a surging intensity that recalls Elemental-era Tears For Fears: storm-lit, bruised, but unflinching. Synth textures rise and fall like weather fronts, while the vocals push against exhaustion, voicing the emptiness of a love turned corrosive. Repetition becomes a weapon, hammering the theme of depletion: devotion can hollow you out until nothing remains but the echo.

The accompanying video, shot by Scott Kinkade and edited by McMurtrie, drifts between vast landscapes and glitch-scarred performance footage. The result is both grounded and hallucinatory, a reminder that escape is possible…but rarely clean.

Their debut EP, Philosophy on Pessimism, set the stage with scraps of despair turned into melody. With their first full-length, Absent Lovers, the band sharpen the attack, but also broaden their palette. Acoustic guitars cut through washes of synth, while vocals search for an exit from obsession and collapse. There is always the tension of scale: music that feels intimate and personal, yet widescreen in scope.

Earlier this year, New Miserable Experience announced their signing to Germany’s Pelagic Records, a label known for giving shape to music that thrives beyond boundaries. For a band intent on finding strength in misery, it’s a fitting home.

It is a strange, piercing want; this apparition of a love that never rose to draw breath. One drifts through halls of memory where no doors swing wide, yet the faint echo of another step implies someone once kept pace. Desire builds like fog, shapeless yet insistent, and melts away with dawn. The world proceeds without pause, indifferent…while the heart stages dialogues never spoken, gestures never returned. Silence remains, and silence is harsher than grief, for grief at least declares what was.

From Boorloo/Perth, Australia, Life Cult steps forward with a dark vitality in their new single, Life Is Love. Since their 2021 debut, they have carved a place with a metallic, modern turn on the old rites of gothic music. They lean on drum machines that march with stern certainty, and basslines that cut deep and hard. Their songs speak of death and heartbreak, drinking from the same dark wells as The Sisters of Mercy, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Type O Negative, Jack Ladder, and Fields of the Nephilim. Out of these elements, they fashion songs that stagger with both sorrow and grandeur.

Life Cult here seems intent on something more patient, more resigned than before.  Their latest work arrives as a hushed, slow hymn. Life Is Love glides on spacious air, guitars gentle, the rhythm unhurried. A ballad, tender and plaintive: the voice soars, bearing its weight of sadness with something like grace. The song is caught between sorrow and sweetness, its tones at once heavy and light, grounded yet rising. It breathes with the ache of memory and the chill of absence, yet offers a strange comfort: in the mingling of weight and air, of sorrow and sweetness, the listener hears not grief alone but the sound of life still moving. The absence is endless, yes, but in the music, it is given shape enough to hold.

As the band explains, “We wanted to craft something that was a bit more lyrically tender and introspective, and musically could provide some breathing room in our live shows. It’s become a staple of our live sets and a fan favourite, so we’re really excited to share it with the world.”

Here Life Cult’s fire is quiet, but it burns no less brightly. In turning toward tenderness, they prove absence itself can resound like a hymn.

The 7″ will be released on 200 copies on black 150gr vinyl housed in a 300gsm folded sleeve; the band are also re-releasing their first EP on cassette (limited to 200). Listen below, and Pre-order here.

DARK ANGEL haben den Veröffentlichungstermin ihres neuen Albums „Extinction Level Event“ bekannt gegeben. Die erste neue Platte der Thrash Metal-Band seit 34 Jahren erscheint am 5. September 2025 via Reversed Records.

Der Titelsong war für einige Zeit bei YouTube zu finden, inzwischen wurde der Track aber vom DARK ANGEL-Channel wieder gelöscht, der Track ist offiziell nur noch als Digital-Single erhältlich.

Geschrieben hat den Song DARK ANGEL-Gitarrist Jim Durkin, er ist 2023 verstorben. Gene Hoglan berichtet:

„Jim Durkin hat uns dieses Stück hinterlassen, es fasst perfekt zusammen, was DARK ANGEL ausmacht.  Ich liebe den Song. Wir haben ihn zum Mittelpunkt der Platte gemacht, nicht als Tribut an Jim oder aus sentimentalen Gründen,  sondern weil es ein Killersong ist. Er hat ihn vor zehn Jahren geschrieben, und nach heutigen Maßstäben ist er immer noch umwerfend.“

Die Modern Progressive Metal-Band UNPROCESSED präsentiert ihre neue Single „Solara“ als Video bei YouTube. Als Gast ist hier auch Sänger Zelli (PALEFACE SWISS) zu hören.

Zuletzt stellte das Quartett den Track „Snowlover“ mit einem Musikvideo bei YouTube vor. Es war bereits die dritte Single nach „Sacrifice Me“ und „Dark, Silent And Complete“, die dem neuen Album „Angel“ entnommen ist. Die Progressive / Technical Death Metal-Band THE JUDGE THE JUROR hat mit „Primitive Minds“ eine neue EP angekündigt. Die nach „Harmony in Discord“ (2024) zweite EP der Kanadier aus Edmonton bildet den Auftakt einer Trilogie, die aufeinander aufbauend eine Erzählung über den Zusammenbruch der Gesellschaft, technologische Entfremdung und die Suche nach Sinn liefert.

Erscheinen soll die EP im Herbst 2025. Vorab gibt es den Track „Heliconian Optivisor“ zu hören.

„Was passiert, wenn man merkt, dass man Teile seines Lebens durch eine Linse betrachtet hat, die man nicht selbst geschaffen hat? Dieser Song handelt von unserem menschlichen Wunsch, Gemeinschaft und Zugehörigkeit zu finden, ohne dafür unsere Seele verkaufen zu müssen, um dazuzugehören. Dieses Gefühl ist ein ständiges Thema für die Bandmitglieder, da wir versuchen, einen neuen, einzigartigen und nischenhaften Sound zu entwickeln. Wir wissen nicht immer, wo wir in der Metal-Szene hingehören, aber wir wissen, dass wir authentisch sein und unseren Überzeugungen treu bleiben wollen, ohne Kompromisse einzugehen“, sagt Sänger David W Frontenac.

Die Power Metal-Band TALES OF DESTINY hat nach dem Lyric-Video zu „Rescued By An Angel“ mit dem Video-Clip zu „Lost Cries“ den Opener ihres kommenden Albums „Ashes of Destiny“ veröffentlicht.

Es ist nach „Reign of the Eclipse“ (2013) das zweite Album der Kanadier aus Quebec, die sich bereits Mitte der 90er-Jahre als Band zusammen gefunden haben.

„Ashes of Destiny“ wurde von Gitarrist Olivier V. Girard (THE LIGHTBRINGER) im Holywaves Studio produziert und wird am 26. September 2025 erscheinen.

Neue Musik aus dem Hause HALESTORM: Die Hard Rock-Band um Sängerin Lzzy Hale veröffentlichte ihre neue Platte „Everest“ am 8. August 2025 via Atlantic Records. Zum Release teilte die Formation ein Video zu „Like A Woman Can„.

Die dritte Single-Auskopplung „Rain Your Blood On Me“ ist ebenfalls auf allen gängigen Streaming-Portalen zu hören. Ende Mai haben HALESTORM ein Video zum Titeltrack geteilt.

Den ersten Track „Darkness Always Wins“ gibt es als Audiostream bereits seit Ende April auf allen gängigen Plattformen vor. Einen Visualizer gibt’s darüber hinaus bei YouTube.

Frontfrau Lizzy Hale kommentiert:

„’Darkness Always Wins‘ ist weder ein Song der Hoffnung noch ein Song der Verzweiflung. Es ist die Realität. Die Geschichte wiederholt sich. Das Böse siegt und die Guten gehen zuerst. Aber wir sind nicht verloren, solange wir nicht aufgeben und weiterkämpfen. Der Krieg wird vielleicht nicht in diesem Leben gewonnen. Aber unsere Mission ist es, die Fackel weiterzureichen, damit diejenigen, die nach uns kommen, etwas haben, wofür sie kämpfen können.“

Im Frühjahr 2025 waren HALESTORM im Vorprogramm von IRON MAIDEN zu sehen, spielten aber am 3. Juni 2025 auch eine Headline-Show in Leipzig (Felsenkeller). Die eigene Headline-Tour mit Support von BLOODYWOOD folgt im Oktober 2025.

Die Metalcore-Band VICIOUS RAIN hat einen Clip zum Song „Spitting Blood Again“ geteilt.

Zuvor drehte die Gruppe zudem ein Video zu ihrer Single „Ikigai“. Bei dem Stück handelt es sich um das erste neue Material nach dem Album „There Is Beauty In Letting Go“ (2024).

Gleichzeitig markiert der Track für die Formation ein neues Kapitel – inhaltlich dreht er sich um das Streben nach einem Sinn, während man einen eigenen Weg durch das Leben sucht.

Die Alternative Metal- / Modern Metalcore-Band AVRALIZE stellt ihre neue Single „Medicine“ mit einem Musikvideo vor.

Zuvor erschien bereits „Close To You“ in Bild und Ton.

Auch zu „Helium“ und „Wanderlust“ hat die Gruppe Clips produziert. Zuvor gab es darüber hinaus ein Musikvideo zu „Upside Down“. Beide Stücke folgen auf das Debütalbum „Freaks“ (2024). Produziert wurden die Tracks von Manuel Renner.

Die Goregrind / Minecore-Band HAGGUS hat nach „Malignant Boomer“ und „As The Hammer Drops“ mit „What’s F**king Left?“ einen weiteren Video-Clip ihres neuen Albums „Destination Extinction“ veröffentlicht. Es ist neben zahlreichen Splits und EPs das fünfte Album der US-Amerikaner aus Oakland.

„Destination Extinction“ wurde gemeinsam mit Greg Wilkinson (AUTOPSY) in den Earhammer Studios in Oakland aufgenommen und mit einem Cover-Artwork von Rusted Winds ausgestattet. After a triumphant run across the UK and Europe, synthpop chanteur Andy Bell will set foot on North American stages for the first time as a solo artist, beginning October 3rd. The run follows the May release of Ten Crowns, a record that carries Bell’s artistry into uncharted territory.

Best known as one half of one of the UK’s most beloved award-winning songwriting partnerships in Erasure, Bell’s parallel solo career has been anything but quiet. He has released three albums under his own name, alongside two further records as part of his theatrical project Torsten The Bareback Saint. Collaborations have ranged across genres and generations — from British Electric Foundation and Claudia Brücken to Perry Farrell, Boy George, Jake Shears, and, most recently, Debbie Harry. For Ten Crowns, however, Bell turned to long-time friend and collaborator Dave Audé, the Grammy-winning producer, remixer, and DJ.  Now Bell crosses the Atlantic for a tour that promises connection, movement, and the kind of pop alchemy only he can conjure.

Bell’s ascent began with a classified ad in Melody Maker, placed by Clarke (Depeche Mode, Yazoo, The Assembly). The audition that followed set in motion one of pop’s most enduring duos. Erasure went on to sell over 20 million albums, score five UK number one records, win Best British Group at the BRIT Awards, and earn the Attitude Icon Award. Their 2020 release The Neon reaffirmed their place in the cultural bloodstream as it debuted at #4 on the UK Official Albums Chart. Earlier this year, Bell received the ICON Award at the PEUGEOT Attitude PRIDE Awards Europe 2025.

Bell’s four decades of creative partnership with Vince Clarke in Erasure also remain in full flight:  a new album is in the works as the duo prepare to celebrate their 40th anniversary next year.

Produced in Nashville and inspired by both the dancefloor and gospel tradition, Ten Crowns marks a radiant chapter in Andy Bell’s career, reaffirming his place as one of pop’s most expressive voices.

Though best known for four decades of synth-pop splendour with Vince Clarke as Erasure (with a new album in the works), Bell also embraced fresh creative ground with Grammy-winning producer and longtime friend Dave Audé. Having already topped the US dance charts with Aftermath (Here We Go) and True Original, the pair continued writing, almost as an experiment, until Audé relocated to Nashville. The shift in setting sparked a gospel-tinged twist, rooted in Bell’s childhood memories of choirs and cathedral school. Ten Crowns is electric, euphoric, and urgent, chasing meaning as life speeds forward.

“I mean, I’ve got everything I could possibly wish for, you know, I really have, but that’s not to say I’m always fulfilled,” says Bell. “This album’s about picking yourself up, dusting yourself off, embracing life – and about taking that feeling on even when you’re fighting demons in the world, like homophobia, and fighting demons in yourself. It’s about being celebratory and uplifting.”

In times when shadows lengthen and the air quivers with unrest, the notion of guardian angels walking unseen beside us as quiet constants is a comforting thought. They are the whispers that steady trembling hands, the light that catches in a stranger’s eyes, reminding the fearful they are not abandoned. Though uncertainty narrows vision, angels coax it open, revealing hidden paths between despair and hope. In the midst of doubt, they linger at the edges of knowing, patient as the tide, urging hearts toward love. Their presence is less miracle than mercy, a gentle assurance that the universe remembers each name. In this case, it’s Lorraine.

Flatwaves, a Philadelphia-based four-piece, takes that ethereal presence and folds it into a sound both enveloping and immediate. Since 2018, they’ve resisted confinement to one style, colliding the gauzy textures of 90s shoegaze with the swirling haze of fuzzed-out garage rock and the charge of rock ’n’ roll. Their influences: The Black Angels, Nothing, Cloakroom, Dum Dum Girls, True Widow – serve as reference points, but their approach is unique, built on hypnotic guitars, driving percussion, and vocals that reverberate in the vast, echoing air between.

Lorraine drifts through recollections of a complicated figure; once rebellious, now softened by time, balancing longing with the ache of distance. There’s affection, but also the unsettled sense of not knowing where the story leads.

“Lorraine is a scrapbook of memories that add up to a well-informed suspicion that guardian angels might be real,” says lyricist Tara. “Plus, I wanted to write a ‘name song’ and I was obsessed with the name Lorraine for a few months. There was a time in the 1920s, when my grandparents were born, where a lot of kids were named Lorraine. And you know, oddly enough, portions of Lorraine and Paloma were inspired by moments Allie and I had last time we were on Catalina, a very eerie and magical place. There’s a lot of enchantment out there, and I find that time periods and people that are seemingly long gone are signaling very loudly right now, at least to me. Maybe it’s our collective energies, maybe it’s our guardian angels.”

Bob Sweeney’s video for the track amplifies that spectral pull. A Philadelphia legend behind the lens, Sweeney shapes a vision like a late-night Euro-TV broadcast or public access show stumbled upon by accident; an unmarked doorway into a basement where another decade is still spinning on the turntable. The imagery is inviting, lending Tell Me Secrets a visual echo to its themes of blurred realities, death, and the persistence of memory.
