For yet another year, during the Whitsun holidays, Leipzig will be transformed into the absolute meeting point of the international gothic family, gathering thousands of devoted fans from all over the world — from Europe to the USA, Japan and beyond, making it again THE biggest international gathering of the dark family. More than 50 venues across the city hosted over 200 bands, covering every aspect of the dark scene: from EBM and darkwave to neofolk, post-punk, gothic rock and minimal synth.

From the moment you arrive in Leipzig, you become part of a world where music, art and identity merge, where strangers become friends and where the dark scene from all over the globe unites as one. Leipzig’s historic architecture and cobblestone streets provide an enchanting backdrop for the sea of black-clad attendees. Walking through the streets, one is able to see a beautiful fusion of fashion, art, and identity. The atmosphere is always an inclusive one; no judgment, only acceptance, and strangers becoming friends united by a shared passion and celebrating music.

Attending the WAVE GOTIK TREFFEN (WGT) in Leipzig is each and every year an experience that surpasses all expectations. As a confluence of the macabre, artistic expression, and diverse musical genres, this goth festival stands as a testament to the vibrant subculture it celebrates.

The biggest worldwide music -and not only- gothic festival is back for the 33rd consecutive year. There is not a single fan of the new & dark/ EBM/ Industrial/ Gothic scene that hasn’t heard of and furthermore hasn’t dreamt of visiting it, at least once.
From 22 May until 25 May, again more than 20.000 Goths from all over the world are expected to come together again in Leipzig to celebrate the Wave-Gotik-Treffen as THE international gathering of the dark family.

33 years ago, two Gothic people from Leipzig had an unusual idea: They didn’t want
to create yet another dark music festival, but rather a supra-regional gathering of like-
minded fellows for relaxed meeting, chatting and celebrating. When the 1st Wave-
Gotik-Treffen took place in 1992 at the edge of Leipzig with about 2.000 visitors and
just a handful of bands, it is unlikely that anyone imagined that within a few years the WGT would become the largest meeting of Gothic people in the world, taking possession of a whole city every year at Whitsun.
Now, the WGT exists more than a quarter-century…

All over the city, there will be more than 200 bands performing, projects and single
artists covering the whole wide range of Gothic music: from Electro-Pop to Goth-Metal, from EBM to Neofolk, from medieval music to Post Punk.

Apart from famous bands of the scene, you are invited for new discoveries with several less-known real underground bands or artists from the edge of the Gothic music universe. The concerts and events take place at more than 40 venues spread throughout Leipzig, for instance in the vaults of the Moritzbastei, in the splendid cupola hall of the Volkspalast, in the neo-gothic church Heilandskirche and in the historical public bath Stadtbad, as well as in large concert halls. The WGT program will also include beautiful classical music again, such as operas, chamber music, choral and organ concerts.

From its’ beginning, the Wave-Gotik-Treffen has been much more than a music festival: its’ guests may step back to the romantic atmosphere of ancient times at the medieval market place at the Pagan Village (Heidnisches Dorf). We will present authors reading and unusual theatre, cinematic performances will take place. People in historic clothing will gather for a Victorian Picnic in a park. For four days a large hall at the agra-Messepark will be transformed into the biggest Gothic-wares marketplace in the world. In numerous clubs DJs from all over the world will invite you to dance until dawn. There will also be a large fetish party where entrance is only possible by following a strict voluptuous dress code.
A stroll through the winding passages of city centre of Leipzig with its historical buildings of the Renaissance, Baroque and Jugendstil (Art Nouveau) eras is especially worthwhile for art and culture lovers: the entrance to several of Leipzig’s museums is free for WGT-guests.

The inhabitants of Leipzig have become familiar with the Treffen over the last two decades – there are no longer any prejudices and the Gothic guests are very welcome here. The most fascinating aspect of the Wave-Gotik-Treffen is surely its unique magic atmosphere that covers the whole city.
Cheap and entertaining accommodation is available at the huge Treffen camping
ground. To enter, you need a special ticket (called Obsorgekarte), Public transport in
the city is free for all WGT-guests from Friday morning until noontime Tuesday.

Camping:
For camping you need a special ticket called Obsorgekarte (available for 50, – €) that
allows you to stay at the Treffen- Campground (agra-fairground) from June 6th to June 9th.

Parking:
For car parking at the Treffen-area (agra) you have to purchase a parking vignette for
20,- € (including advance sale charges). Parking at the Treffen-area (agra-
Messepark) is definitely not possible without a parking vignette.

4-Day-Tickets for all events within the 33rd Wave-Gotik-Treffen Whitsun 2026 are

the free usage of all public transport within Zone 110 of the MDV (Mitteldeutscher Verkehrverbund), this includes all trams, buses and S-Bahn lines except special lines
e.g. sightseeing tours).

Nachdem die europäischen Fans von FROM ASHES TO NEW sich lange gedulden mussten, kehrte die Band aus Lancaster (Pennsylvania) nach knapp zehn Jahren Wartezeit auf die Bühnen Europas zurück, um ihr neues Album „Reflections“ zu auch live zu präsentieren. Die immense Vorfreude zeigte sich bereits im Ticket-Vorverkauf: Innerhalb weniger Minuten waren alle Tickets für die Deutschland-Shows restlos ausverkauft und selbst nach einem Upgrade auf größere Venues dauerte es nicht mal einen Tag, bis alle der heiß begehrten Karten vergriffen waren.

COMASTATIC

Für die Einstimmung in den Abend sorgte das Züricher Alternative-Duo COMASTATIC. Die Energie, die die Band auf die Bühne brachte, steckte an, denn direkt beim Opener „back4blood“ wurde bereits aus mancher Ecke im Publikum mitgesungen. So wurde auch die Ankündigung des wenige Tage nach der Show (16.04.2026) erschienenen Songs „American Nightmare“ bejubelt. Bereits nach dem zweiten Song hatte die Band dem Publikum in der Live Music Hall gut eingeheizt – sowohl stimmungstechnisch als auch wortwörtlich. So trennte sich Sänger Mattia Di Paolo von seiner Jacke, bevor er „Sway[ed]“ anstimmte.

Beim Song „24seven“ fand die Stimmung ihren bisherigen Höhepunkt des Abends: Das Publikum klatschte im Takt und sang laut mit. „Primitive“ wurde mit der Frage „Who here likes heavy music?“ eröffnet, die vom Kölner Publikum deutlich bejaht wurde. Das laute Dröhnen des Bass schallte in der Halle wider, bevor Sänger Mattia Di Paolo mit „Sabotage“ den letzten Song des Abends verkündete. Der eingängige Rhythmus des Songs verleitete auch die letzten Stillstehenden im Publikum zum Tanzen, Two Steppen oder zumindest zum Nicken des Kopfes im Takt. Alles in allem ein würdiger Auftakt!

FROM ASHES TO NEW

Um ca. 20:30 Uhr wurde in der Live Music Hall dann endlich das Licht gedimmt und über die Boxen ertönte „Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)“ von den Backstreet Boys. Wie man es von vielen Konzerten inzwischen gewohnt ist, sang das Publikum lauthals mitund es wurde nicht zum letzten Mal an diesem Abend deutlich, wie sehr das Kölner Publikum diesem Auftritt entgegengefiebert hatte.

Als Auftakt spielten FROM ASHES TO NEW den Song „New Disease“ vom neuen Album „Reflections“, der bereits im Juli 2025 als Single veröffentlicht wurde und brachten damit direkt einen großen Schwung Energie auf die Bühne. Diese Energie wurde von den Fans – getreu dem Titel des neuen Albums – widergespiegelt, und zwar mit lautem Jubel und Gesang.

Nach dem zweiten Song verließ die Band kurz die Bühne, Gitarrist Lance Dowdle betrat bereits wenige Augenblicke später mit einer neuen Maske die Bühne, während das Intro von „Heartache“ ertönte. Die textsicheren Fans stiegen beim eingängigen Refrain auch ohne weitere Aufforderung lautstark mit ein. Und die nach oben gehobenen Arme wurden nicht nur im Takt von links nach rechts bewegt, sondern auch bereits zur Unterstützung der ersten Crowdsurfer benötigt.

Nachdem der rap-lastigere Song „Monster in Me“ besonders viele Crowdsurfer animierte, nahm sich Sänger Matt Brandyberry einen Moment Zeit, um den Fans seinen Dank auszusprechen. Er habe lange Zeit darauf gewartet, nach Deutschland zu kommen und wurde nicht enttäuscht. Und auch wenn man normalerweise dazu geneigt ist, eine:n Sänger:in zu hinterfragen, wenn diese:r verkündet, das Land, in dem die Band gerade tourt, sei ihr Favorit, so wirkt das Statement, dass Deutschland sein Lieblingsort zum Touren sei von Brandyberry sehr glaubwürdig.

„Ich habe euch eben schon über meine In-Ears gehört, also bin ich gespannt, ob das beim nächsten Song auch funktioniert“, kündigte er an, bevor die ersten Takte zu „Scars That I’m Hiding“ erklangen. Und dann sorgen die knapp tausendvierhundert Stimmen aus dem Publikum, die das „Ohhh oh oh oh“-Intro des Songs begleiten, für den ersten Gänsehaut-Moment des Abends.

Im Anschluss bemerkte Danny Case, dass er dem Publikum noch gar keine Fragen gestellt hatte. Das ließ sich Band-Kollege Matt Brandyberry natürlich nicht zweimal sagen: „Hebt eure Hand hoch, wenn ihr ihm eure Kreditkarten-Infos geben wollt,“ scherzte er zunächst. Doch dann wurden die Fragen etwas tiefgründiger: „Hebt eure Hand hoch, wenn ihr schon mal in einer beschissenen Beziehung wart. Lasst eure Hand oben, wenn ihr zu lange geblieben seid.“ Es gingen einige Hände nach oben und so war es auch keine Überraschung, dass direkt alle Fans mit einstiegen, als Danny Case „Hate Me Too“ anstimmte.

Nachdem die letzten Takte des Songs verklangen waren, wendete sich Brandyberry erneut ans Publikum, um zu erzählen, wie er zu der Nachricht aufwachte, dass die Deutschland-Shows bereits innerhalb weniger Minuten ausverkauft waren und blickte zurück auf eine Zeit, in der das unvorstellbar für ihn gewesen wäre. Damals, erinnerte er sich, wurde ihm gesagt, dass der nachfolgende Song „My Name“ der Band keinen Erfolg bringen würde. Nun, 10 Jahre später, sei er sich sicher, dass ebendiese Leute den Namen „From Ashes To New“ mittlerweile sehr gut kennen dürften und blickte hoffnungsvoll auf die Zukunft: „Wenn wir wiederkommen, werden wir diese Venue dann innerhalb von fünf Minuten ausverkaufen?“

Das Publikum bejahte seine Frage mit lautstarkem Jubel, woraufhin sich Brandyberry bedankte: „Danke euch allen für euren Support. Ihr seid From Ashes To New. Für den Rest des Sets möchte ich, dass ihr nach links und nach rechts schaut und euch bewusst macht, dass wir alle eine große Familie sind.“

Und mit diesen Worten im Kopf und den Stimmen etlicher mitsingender Fans im Ohr fühlte man sich inmitten eines Meers aus hin- und herschwenkenden Handy-Taschenlampen tatsächlich wie ein Teil eines Ganzen, während die Band mit „Barely Breathing“ einen ihrer Hits zum Besten gab.

Auch wenn der nachfolgende Song „Villain“ zu diesem Zeitpunkt erst seit knapp drei Monaten draußen war, sangen die Fans mindestens genauso laut mit, wie bei den altbewährten Lieblingssongs.

Bei „Dead To Me“ baute sich zwischen Headbangern und Moshpits eine neue Energie im Raum auf, die ihren Höhepunkt fand, als mit dem Start des Songs „Nothing“ die Stimmung in der Halle explodierte. Spätestens ab diesem Zeitpunkt stand keiner mehr still: Überall wurde mitgesungen, gehüpft und die Arme wurden mit einem lauten, sich wiederholenden „Hey“ nach oben gerissen. So blieb der sich öffnende Circle Pit bei weitem nicht der einzige Ort, an dem man die unglaubliche Energie im Raum spürte.

Auch wenn sich diese impulsive Energie mit dem Beginn von „Die For You“ wandelte, ging sie keinesfalls verloren. Man kann den Fans von FROM ASHES TO NEW zwar nicht nachsagen, dass sie im Laufe des Abends nicht mitgesungen hätten, aber die Lautstärke, mit der die Fans bei diesem Song nahezu die beiden Sänger Case und Brandyberry übertönten, stieg nochmal auf ein völlig neues Level. Stellenweise hörte Danny Case sogar gänzlich auf zu singen und ließ die textsicheren Fans übernehmen. Vor allem in diesen Momenten war der Band deutlich anzusehen, dass sie die Energie, die die Fans ihnen entgegen bringen, wertschätzen, aber nicht für selbstverständlich nehmen.

Früher als von den meisten gewünscht, kam die Ankündigung, dass der nächste Song der letzte des Abends sei und dass es auch keine Zugabe geben würde. Und damit auch der Aufruf ein letztes Mal alles zu geben und den größten Pit des Abends zu eröffnen. Matt Brandyberry äußerte hierzu den Wunsch „Wenn ich gleich ‚I’m losing my mind‘ schreie, dann will ich, dass hier die absolute Hölle losbricht.“ Und das tat sie. Trotz der sich immer weiter anstauenden Hitze zeigte das Kölner Publikum beim Klassiker „Panic“ nochmal, wie groß die Freude war, FROM ASHES TO NEW endlich (wieder) live zu erleben und verstärkte damit sicherlich nochmals den von Danny Case in unserem Interview mit ihm geäußerten Wunsch, so schnell es geht, wieder nach Deutschland zurückzukehren.

Die Death Metal-Band VORAX hat mit „Volcano Shock“ ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist nach der 2022er-EP „Jurassic Dawn“ das erste Album der Schweizer aus Zürich und lade den Hörer zu einer Reise in prähistorische Welten ein, in der es um Naturkatastrophen, die Herrschaft der Dinosaurier und die unerbittlichen Gesetze des Überlebens geht.

Die Melodic Death / Gothic Metal-Band DISTORTED hat mit „Parasitis“ eine weitere neue Single mitsamt Video-Clip veröffentlicht. Bereits im Vorjahr ist die Single „Time Abuser“ erschienen. Es war der erste Release der Israeli seit 17 Jahren. Damals erschien mit „Voices from Within“ das zweite Album der Band rund um Gitarrist und Sänger Raffael Mor (TOMORROW’S RAIN). Beide Songs wurden von Pete Rutcho gemixt und gemastert.

Mit „Show No Fear“ wird am 1. Mai 2026 via Heaven and Hell Records das neue Album der Heavy Metal-Band CRIMSON STEEL erscheinen. Es ist nach „Night Creatures“ (2022) das zweite Album der US-Amerikaner aus North Carolina und wurde von Wendy Brancaccio und Bill Spears produziert.

Mit „Trilogy II: Sweet Revenge“ wird am 1. Mai 206 via Metalapolis Records die neue EP der Symphonic Power Metal-Band WHITEABBEY erscheinen. Die Scheibe, welche von Gitarrist Steve Moore (FIRELAND, Ex-CONDEMNED) produziert wurde, setzt die mit der 2022er-EP „Trilogy“ gestartete Trilogie fort. Davor hat die Band aus Nordirland auch drei Alben veröffentlicht.

Die Psychedelic / Classic Rock-Band SÖNUS hat mit dem Video-Clip zu „Sisyphus Stomp“ einen zweiten Track ihres kommenden Albums „Planes of Torment“ veröffentlicht. Inspiriert von der antiken Mythologie spiegelt der Song den endlosen Kreislauf des Kampfes im modernen Leben wider und thematisiert Burnout, Ungleichheit, politischen Verfall und unaufhörliche Konflikte.

Im Februar hat die Band mit „Pagan Woman“ einen ersten Track des Albums veröffentlicht. Es ist nach „Worlds Undreamed Of“ und „Usurper of the Universe“ das dritte Album der US-Amerikaner aus San Francisco.

„Planes of Torment“ wurde von Bassist Dave Reno gemixt und von Matt “Mojo” Denton gemastert. Release-Termin  ist der 22. Mai 2026.

Mit „Gloom Folklore“ kündigt das Berliner Indie Folk Projekt MANSIONS IN THE SEA das zweite Album an, das am 19. Mai 2026 über Winter Solitude Productions erscheinen soll. Als letzte Single erschien jüngst der Song „Summer Sadness“, zu dem es auch ein Musikvideo gibt, das Sascha Blach (u.a. EDEN WEINT IM GRAB) alleine während eines Road-Trips auf Sardinien drehte. Die Stücke des Albums wurden über einen Zeitraum von 14 Monaten als einzelne Singles veröffentlicht und werden nun auch digital als Album gebündelt. Hinter dem Projekt steht Sascha Blach (u.a. EDEN WEINT IM GRAB), der mit sonorer Stimme und Instrumenten wie Akustikgitarre, Banjo, Klavier, Mandoline und Violine arbeitet, ergänzt durch dezente elektronische Elemente. Der Sound bewegt sich zwischen Indie-Folk, klassischen Singer/Songwriter-Elementen und Anklängen an Southern Gothic.

HEATHEN haben Anfang 2026 einen Plattenvertrag bei Napalm Records unterschrieben. Jetzt folgt als zweite Single eine weitere Neuaufnahme eines alten Stücks: „Twist Of Faith“ gibt es als Clip bei YouTube. Ursprünglich stammt die Nummer von PSYCHOSIS, während der Original-Aufnahme im Jahr 1992 waren Gitarrist Kragen Lum und Bassist Jason Mirza Teil der Band.

Die erste Veröffentlichung auf dem neuen Label war die Single „Never A God“, eine Neuaufnahme eines alten Tracks. Für die nahe Zukunft plant die Thrash Metal-Band nicht nur ein neues Album:

„Wir starten diese neue Partnerschaft mit Napalm Records mit einem Paukenschlag und bieten euch etwas Neues, während wir weiter am nächsten HEATHEN-Album arbeiten. Zu diesem Zweck haben wir ein paar klassische Bay-Area-Thrash-Songs aufgenommen, die ursprünglich von anderen Bands geschrieben wurden, mit denen wir Anfang der 1990er Jahre gespielt haben. Die Demo-Sammler unter euch haben diese Songs vielleicht schon einmal gehört, aber für die meisten werden sie neu sein. Die erste Single ist ‚Never A God‘, ursprünglich als Demo (mit David White am Gesang) von LAUGHING DEAD aufgenommen. Also: neues Plattenlabel, neue Musik, neues Video, 12”-Maxi-Single im Vorverkauf und eine Tour mit CORONER in Nordamerika, die morgen beginnt. Let’s fucking go!
