30.12.2023 - DAWN OF A DARK AGE: Transumanza
Gut gemacht.

30.12.2023 - Berlin-Based Post-Punk Ensemble Bleib Modern Unveil Video for M!R!M Remix of “Into The Night”

In the wake of their 2021 critically lauded album Afraid To Leave, Berlin-based post-punk ensemble Bleib Modern has embarked on an intriguing venture: reaching out to a coterie of artistically aligned peers, the band invited them to reinterpret their tracks. The result is the compilation 2 Afraid 2 Leave, a gathering of remixes and reimaginings that spans the spectrum of darkwave, post-punk, and EBM sounds. 2 Afraid 2 Leave offers listeners a chance to experience Bleib Modern’s music from an altered vantage point, a welcome interlude as the band forges ahead with new creations.
Jack Milwaukee, aka M!R!M, infused his signature dreamy lo-fi bedroom synthpop sound into this exquisite reinterpretation of Into The Night. The more guitar-heavy original, with a psychedelic plodding sound evoking Echo and the Bunnymen, has been transformed into a soaring darkwave number with glistening synths.
Accompanying the new version of the song is a visually arresting music video, the handiwork of the band’s drummer, Thomas Schamann, endearingly referred to as “glitchboy.” This self-directed visual narrative artfully stitches together scenes from their vibrant Fall 2021 tour with M!R!M. As it unfolds, the video traverses the landscapes of Germany, France, and the Czech Republic, each frame offering an intimate lens into Bleib Modern’s vigorous live performances and their creative journey. It’s a piece that not only complements the music but also provides a window into the band’s spirited sojourns and artistic endeavours.
Watch the video for the M!R!M Remix of “Into The Night” below:
2 Afraid 2 Leave is an eclectic treasure trove of collaboratio, from the pulsating club rendition of Bitter Smile by IV Horsemen, to Danish artist Dune Messiah’ crooner version of Loony Voices. The album also boasts contributions from luminaries like The KVB, The Underground Youth, Blind Delon, Shad Shadows, and an array of side projects by Bleib Modern’s own members.
2 Afraid 2 Leave Vol 1 + Vol 2 by Bleib Modern
2 Afraid 2 Leave is set for release on February 23rd by Wave Tension Records (vinyl) and Icy Cold Records.

30.12.2023 - Neapolitan Darkwave Duo Varg I Veum Debut Video for “The Dim Glass”

Naples-based darkwave duo Varg I Veum, featuring Alessandra Policella and Michele Mozzillo of Hapax, have released their new single and video, “The Dim Glass,” from their self-titled album, available through Swiss Dark Nights. Their music, a distinctive blend of coldwave’s atmospheric sounds and medieval folk motifs, creates a melancholic auditory experience with powerful electronics and resonant vocal lines.
Alessandra’s expertise in Germanic philology enriches the songwriting, drawing from Old Norse poetry and English romanticism to craft lyrics that reimagine ancient verses in a modern, introspective context. “The Dim Glass” explores the complexities of personal struggle and introspection, using metaphors of wolves and ravens to depict the tension between primal instincts and higher reasoning. The song subtly addresses the dangers of ignoring inner truths and the pitfalls of self-delusion.
The spectacular video, a creation of Elio de Filippo and Jessica Squilante from Studio Nubes, is presented in a striking black-and-white palette, skillfully interlacing with the song’s underlying messages. Its visual style, redolent of Maya Deren’s surrealist masterpiece Meshes of the Afternoon, traverses a landscape of psychedelic elements and nature scenes, each hinting at a looming sense of foreboding. This artistic approach not only complements but also deepens the song’s impact, resulting in a visually enthralling experience that harmonizes with its hauntingly melodious tune.

Related newsDark electro act SpankTheNun delivers 'The Bunker Tapes III' - final part in 'Bunker Tapes' trilogyContent: If you’re familiar with this formation you probably know what to expect. The work moves on where the previous album left off; elaborated EBM songs covered with cold, Klinik-al atmospheres, solid bass lines, Industrial sound treatments, and powerful vocals. Remixes have been accomplished by Mirland, Grendel, Ext!ze, Moris Blak, Blak Emoji, Mechanical Vein, Anthony [H], Batavia, Moaan Exis and Chris Vienna. The digital format is featuring 3 more remixes.
+ + + : Spankthenun is a band with its own approach although the sound might remind you of Leather Strip -and that’s not really a surprise as Claus Larsen was featured on their previous work. This is a familiar EBM format achieved with a true sound intelligence. There are several cool songs and also some exciting remixes. The remixes are adding a real bonus.
– – – : The songs are elaborated although the sound formula remains quite similar for all the songs. I think this band is even able to do better.

29.12.2023 - JEAN MICHEL JARRE – Oxymoreworks

29.12.2023 - Dancing in the Dunes — Ecuadorean Post-Punk Outfit La Calle Morgue Debut Video for “La Última Eclosión”

Enrarecidos
Los aires
Los ríos
In 2006, the Ecuadorean post-punk ensemble La Calle Morgue blossomed under the tender collaboration of Juan Auz (Naturata Brutalismus) and Jaime Murgueytio (Sexores), intertwining their artistic souls to reinvigorate Ecuador’s music scene with a passionate new essence. Their muse was the enigmatic allure of late 1970s punk and early 1980s post-punk, with a particular enchantment for the genres’ more shadowy, mysterious elements. This harmonious fusion of styles and emotions endowed La Calle Morgue with a uniquely captivating musical identity that resonates deeply within the heart of Ecuador’s cultural legacy.
Today, the members of La Calle Morgue are scattered across Europe and Ecuador, yet their commitment to their art remains unwavering. Vocalist and keyboardist Juan Auz is now a fixture in Berlin’s music community, both as a DJ and through collaborations with local punk and post-punk acts. Bassist Victor Pazmiño has found a new home in Barcelona, immersing himself in its thriving cultural scene. Back in Quito, guitarist Jaime Murgueytio and drummer Christian Arias are busy with new musical endeavours. Despite the geographical divide, the band retains a strong creative connection, and recently announced the upcoming release of a new single and its accompanying video, titled La Última Eclosión.
At its core, La Última Eclosión delves into the dialectical interplay between the individual and the collective, examining how the oscillations of matter and energy shape our mental health and societal structures. The song artfully uses the metaphor of falling and rising to depict the struggles and triumphs of an individual’s journey through life and reflect the dynamics of social movements during historical transformations. The song’s underlying message is profound yet simple: the forces that propel life and change, often unpredictable and uncontrollable, should be acknowledged and embraced before attempting to influence the course of human history.
In the music video for La Última Eclosión, directed by Steve Heredia, the visuals explore the interplay between the individual and the collective. Filmed in the stark yet captivating landscape of the Palmira Desert in Ecuador, dancers Amanda Nostalgie and Geovanny Becerra perform an evocative choreography, their movements resonating against the expansive and barren backdrop. This setting was not chosen arbitrarily; it reflects the intricate themes of the song, creating a vivid representation of contradiction. The desert embodies both desolation and beauty, serving as a metaphor for the transformative potential inherent in existence. The video, much like the song it accompanies, underscores the notion that in the heart of desolation, beauty can emerge – and conversely, within beauty, there exists the potential for desolation. This interplay, visually and thematically rendered, speaks to the song’s core message about the unpredictable yet undeniable forces that shape life and history.
Watch the spellbinding video below:
La Última Eclosión, which had been in the pipeline for some time, was brought to fruition with the collaborative efforts of Christian Arias and Victor Pazmiño in January 2021. Recorded at La Increíble Sociedad Studios in Quito, the track underwent a meticulous mixing, production, and mastering process by Daniel Pasquel from February to May 2021.
La Calle Morgue has evolved notably since their 2008 debut EP La Ciudad Hundida, which brought them international acclaim and festival appearances with its themes of occultism and existentialism. Their momentum continued with a politically charged, self-titled EP in 2011, leading to performances at major Latin American festivals. The 2013 single Frecuencia de las Aves expanded their international footprint, featuring in global media and on national Ecuadorian platforms. Their recognition peaked with inclusion in a 2015 Joy Division tribute and the 2017 release of their first LP Neferu, marked by a national tour and a video for the track Noche en Vela. Throughout, La Calle Morgue’s work, characterized by a blend of dark poetry, history, and politics, has redefined aesthetic boundaries in music.

29.12.2023 - Listen to NYC Goth Rock Outfit Black Rose Burning’s Sci-Fi Inspired “Ad Astra” LP

“We travel into the microverse. We leave a dying planet there. We discover a new place to live. We’re the light that shines amongst the stars at night… Love Won, Love Lost and Outer Space.”
In the pulsating heart of New York City, a musical entity known as Black Rose Burning, orchestrated by George Grant (bassist for Voltaire), emerges as a formidable force in the realm of dark alternative rock. This ensemble, a fusion of past and future, melds a deeply Gothic sensibility with the kinetic energy of dancefloor beats and the haunting melodies reminiscent of ’80s New Wave. Its formation in 2018 marked the convergence of talents including instrumentalist, producer, and engineer Grant, guitarist Frank Morin of World Inferno Friendship Society, and drummer Luis Infantas of Monster Zero.
Their sound, channeling the spectral echoes of Ultravox and Colourbox, and the transformative resonance of Winds of Change-era Scorpions, is a journey through time and genre. At moments, their music aligns with the spectral essence of The Damned, The Cult, and The Mission. Black Rose Burning navigates the foggy alleyways of art-pop with a post-punk verve, reminiscent of a noir-new romantic figure, transposed against a backdrop that blurs the lines between the grit of the urban landscape, and the boundless possibilities of the universe.
Now, Black Rose Burning presents Ad Astra, the title track from their invigorating third album Ad Astra, along with a clever new sci-fi video.
“I was always intrigued by the Latin phrase Ad Astra Per Aspera (to the stars with difficulty) – even when I was a kid,” Grant muses. “I have also spent a great amount of time in my life pondering a question – why are we all fighting and destroying planet Earth instead of reaching for the stars together? The way mankind is at this moment in history, I’m not even sure we deserve the greater universe. I’m hopeful that one day we will.”
Grant approached the record with this mantra in mind, interlacing technical and futuristic themes with timeless tales of broken hearts, broken dreams, and – as ever- hope.
“I quite honestly took my love, as an avid Sci-Fi fan, and poured it into quite a few of these songs and into the overall feel of the record,” he says. But don’t get me wrong – there’s plenty of both love and heartbreak written into it as well.”
In the Kubrick-inspired music video, viewers are transported into a near-future dystopia, a setting where the weariness of world-travelers is palpable. These voyagers embark on an odyssey that stretches into the furthest expanses of space, distancing themselves from Earth’s shortcomings. Accompanied by a strikingly beautiful hook, the video propels us at breathtaking velocity through the vastness of the cosmos. This visual voyage prompts contemplation: what mysteries lie in the uncharted territories of space? Is there a realm superior to our troubled Earth? The video leaves us in a state of hopeful speculation, pondering the possibilities that lie beyond our known universe.
Ad Astra was recorded in George’s own studio, PV Recording Company. and mastered by ACTORS‘ Jason Corbett at Jacknife Sound.
“Ad Astra is the result of the real first time collaboration of the musicians who have been playing with my project in a live setting and myself,” says Grant. “On previous records, I recorded them solo – playing and programming all of the instruments. It only made sense to take it to a whole new level by taking a slight back seat and letting the fantastic musical brains I have surrounded myself with, to step into some spotlight and show their talent. Sonically it’s a major leap forward in the ever-growing sound of Black Rose Burning in every way. Letting experts do what they do has resulted in – a lush soundscape that’s better than I could have ever hoped for. And even though I again wrote all the material, having partners who understand my vision is both invaluable and awe -inspiring,”
In 2021, Black Rose Burning released their second album, The Wheel, one year after debuting The Year of the Scorpion. George Grant’s soulful vocal delivery, instantly recognizable voice, and solid instrumentation are standout features of this music.
Black Rose Burning has also contributed their exclusive Ad Astra (COLD VIGOR Microverse Remix) to the Goths for Sanctuaries compilation, which aims to raise funds for animal sanctuaries, shelters and rescues – and to bring the goth community together in mutual support.

29.12.2023 - Post-Punk.com — The Best Of 2023
Another year is over. We made it! Somehow, we’ve tumbled through the vortex of time and landed at the end of 2023. Give yourself a pat on the back; you’ve survived another trip around the sun, and this year, bizarrely elastic in its passage, seemed to stretch on forever yet zipped by in a flash. And, in a plot twist that none of us saw coming, it turned out to be a veritable treasure trove of musical releases.
And I begrudgingly say this, as a former New Yorker and Berliner, but Los Angeles has firmly established itself as a formidable contender in the global post-punk festival scene, effortlessly rivaling the traditional strongholds of Europe. The city, known for its perpetual sunshine (you know, the perfect place for a Goth), now also beams with the sunburnt glow of two pivotal music festivals: Darker Waves and Cruel World. The latter marked the triumphant return of Siouxsie to the U.S., with a performance so electrifying the festival had to be evacuated before she could take the stage. (But come on, guys, NYC needs a festival like this, too!)
This year was a testament to the enduring spirit and adaptability of post-punk, synthpop, and darkwave, genres that continue to evolve and captivate new generations and even cross over into the mainstream. In this evolving landscape, we’ve seen a surge of artists not just reviving but redefining these sounds. It’s a surreal time these days where the nostalgic echoes of the past meet the innovative visions of the present, resulting in a period that could very well be remembered as a new golden age of post-punk music.
And just as L.A. has seamlessly blended its sunny disposition with the typically gloomy aesthetic of post-punk, the music of 2023 has interwoven the familiar with the avant-garde, presenting a year of releases that are as surprising as they are gratifying.
Nuovo Testamento, a band that has consistently proven its mettle, delivered ‘Love Lines,’ a record where each track shone with the potential of a hit single. Their ability to consistently produce high-caliber music has not gone unnoticed, making them a standout act of the year. Then there was Slowdive’s ‘everything is alive,’ a release that reminded everyone why they are revered icons in the shoegaze realm. Their return wasn’t just a nod to their past glory but a bold statement of their ongoing relevance in today’s music scene.
Mareux’s debut album, ‘Lovers from the Past,’ presented a compelling fusion of generational sounds, effectively bridging the gap between the underground and the contemporary. The album stood out for its creative songcraft and unique aesthetic, marking Mareux as an artist to watch.
The year was also notable for the surprising and remarkable releases from established acts like Zanias, and Belgrado. who released some of their best work to date. and newcomers Lathe of Heaven’s with their full-length debut nostalgic and refreshing nod to Killing Joke and The Blitz. Body of Light’s ‘Bitter Reflection’ was a delightful dive into new-wave pop, showcasing their versatility and creative prowess.
Perhaps most surprising were the contributions from veterans OMD and A Certain Ratio. Their latest works managed to capture the essence of their classic ’80s sound while injecting fresh, contemporary energy, proving that their creative wells are far from dry in 2023.
So, as we close the chapter on this whirlwind of a year, Myself, Andi Harriman, and Frank Deserto have scoured the soundscape, digging through the deluge of tunes to bring you a curated list of this year’s best. So, without further ado, here’s the music that defined our year,

Frank’s List
2023 was a strange year for me, musically. I kinda carved my own path through the year’s releases, actively seeking out guitars as always, eager to hear those six strings resonate the way they do best. In short, I’m still a sucker for a well written, organic song, though there was still quite a bit of room for big electronic beats and deep synthesizer grooves in my heart. In addition, many of my favorite releases of the year are from legacy favorites who released some of the best works of their career, including Slowdive, Fever Ray, Drop Nineteens, The Church, Everything but the Girl, A Certain Ratio, and Blur (perhaps an unpopular choice amongst the post-punk die hards, but for my marbles, their songwriting prowess continues to age like a fine wine, with their latest record mixing sad-bastard ballads with the ghosts of Scary Monsters. Also, don’t sleep on The WAEVE LP for the best Bowie horns this side of Young Americans). Kudos to the old guard for keeping the dream alive (even those who missed the cutoff, he says while still slowly but surely digesting the new OMD and Peter Gabriel albums), but also to the newer artists putting their best foot forward across a myriad of genres. Much love to Belgrado, Lathe of Heaven, Temple of Angels, and my Felte family (Chasms, Public Memory, Odonis Odonis, and Ritual Howls) for pushing boundaries and expanding the atmosphere this year.
The biggest surprise and the greatest reward of the year for me was EXEK, a band that I had never heard before stumbling upon their most recent record by happenstance. While on a pilgrimage to see Cranes reunite in London in October, I stopped by World of Echo, a small but mighty shop specializing in rare post-punk, synth, and outsider music, and heard the bright, clanging melodies of “Glow of Good Will” and “It’s Just a Flesh Wound, Darling” on an endless loop while I was shopping. The shop had just received copies of this new record, and quickly passed the obsession on to me in one foggy afternoon. To my ears, the band channels the best parts of Swell Maps and both Chairs Missing and A Bell is a Cup-era Wire, with a bit of Flying Nun jangle mixed in for good measure.
Happy listening, and see y’all in 2024! <3

The top three albums of 2023 were almost too easy to choose. Nuovo Testamento‘s Love Lines is an instant classic—blurring the lines between Italo disco, freestyle and a hint of Italo house, the band has matured and developed into every dance music fan’s utopian dream. SDH‘s Fake Is Real was similar in its genre-crossing ventures through synthpop, rave, and electro-clashy elements, while Mareux‘s stunningly beautiful LP, Lovers From the Past, put heartbreak overtop a cold, stoic beat.
In an attempt to find that connecting thread between each favorite album and/or track, it became clear that most selections on this list brought something unique that felt eerily familiar or, oppositely, confrontational. Pelada, Fotocopia and Puerta Negra utilized anarchic synthpunk to feud with authoritative women vocals sung in Spanish. Brixx and Augustus Muller reinterpreted the OST into a dreamy, EBM haze (Brixx replete with a saxophone solo). Lathe of Heaven and Blood Bells revved up guitar-based post-punk (positive punk?) amidst the sea of drum machines and synth pad ennui. Be it comfort or discomfort, the range of styles and approaches here are vast.
Most of all, the desire to move and be moved remains as both a DJ and a listener. From synthpunk and post-punk, to EBM and Italo body music, to the downright uncategorizable, each selection adds a luminescence that feels of the moment but—as it is my weakness—isn’t afraid to acknowledge to the past.

28.12.2023 - Listen to San Francisco Post-Punk Ensemble Octavian Winters’ “The Line or Curve” EP

In 2022, San Francisco witnessed the sprouting of Octavian Winters, a post-punk ensemble with a flair for the theatrically gloomy. Their debut album, The Line or Curve, emerges from the misty depths of Stratis Capta Records. Imagine a sound that’s less about basking in the California sun and more about brooding in foggy graveyards. These folks blend the bleak with the beautiful by conjuring an atmosphere where edgy grooves rub shoulders with billowy synth waves and vocals that seem to have been lifted from an otherworldly choir. We hear elements of Cocteau Twins, Clan of Xymox, Faith and the Muse, and Dead Can Dance in their sound.
The faces behind Octavian Winters are a blend of the seasoned and the spectral. There’s guitarist Stephan Salit, who’s no stranger to the strings with Thrill of The Pull, and drummer Randy Gzebb, who keeps time like a clock in a haunted house. Bassist Jay Denton and Ria (Amenti) Aursjoen, doubling on vocals and keyboards, complete this ensemble. Their sound incorporates threads of visceral energy and ethereal whispers, crafting songs that feel like half-forgotten tales told under a sky peppered with stars and shadows. Each member of Octavian Winters has shared the stage with many iconic acts over the years, including Nine Inch Nails, Killing Joke, Lords of the New Church, Savage Republic, Christian Death, The Frozen Autumn, Everything Goes Cold and Black Tape for a Blue Girl.
In their debut, The Line or Curve, Octavian Winters delves into the arcane world of symbols and sigils, where every swoop and scribble could either unlock the universe – or exist as doodles. Sigils are intricate mazes of lines and curves, believed by some to be cosmic remote controls. The band suggests that these symbols are potent conduits of energy, ready to spring into action if drawn just right. But here’s the catch – it’s all about precision. One wrong line, and your mighty sigil is as powerful as a wet noodle. It’s a bit like cooking; a pinch too much salt and you’re dining with disappointment. So, as Octavian Winters musically meanders through this mystical terrain, they invite you to ponder: Will you draw a line or a curve? It’s a choice laden with existential heft, but who knows? With the right line or curve, you might just tap into the secrets of the cosmos, or at least enjoy a compelling soundtrack while trying.
The opening track, Ondine, is like the maître d’ of a grand auditory banquet, setting the stage and whetting your appetite with an overture of emotion, serving up a sampler platter, yet coyly leaving a dash of mystery on the table. You are then presented with an opulent spread of sounds, richly layered. The lyrics of Ondine evoke a tale of longing and mystical romance. Delicate, moonlit messages offer their heart and soul, only to be met with the subject’s elusive nature, symbolized by retreating into the water and hiding among stones. This enchanting exchange is set against a backdrop of starry nights and deep emotional immersion.
Undertow depicts a winter scene with vivid imagery of stars and ice, symbolizing the delicate yet continuous nature of emotions. It suggests an invitation to join in this fragile, endless loop of feelings. via the irresistible force of the ‘undertow,’ a metaphor for being drawn into deep, overwhelming emotions, accompanied by a plea for comprehensive understanding and forgiveness.
Surreal expresses a sense of disconnection and surrealism in human relationships, contrasting the physicality of hands and voice with the intangible nature of belief and emotion. It portrays hearts as isolated, heavy stones, and introduces a devilish element representing a journey back to reality. The lyrics convey a deep sense of disillusionment with the hatred and disbelief in the world, highlighting the struggle to find something genuine and urging to find a way through this surreal existence. This is followed by Velveteen: a methodical, almost predatory progression of time and actions. The song shifts to a scene of artificial beauty and superficial beliefs, symbolized by betting on design, a plastic flower, and a lifeless, commercialized bride. The overarching theme is a critique of dreaming one’s life away in a world filled with superficiality and pretense.
Finally we have Nebula, which describes a journey through time and space, centered around an Aeon spinning years from a spark to the present. A sense of cosmic scale and the ephemeral nature of dreams is introduced, which ultimately dissolve into nothingness. The imagery of a new sun descending over an ending world adds a sense of cyclical renewal and finality. The song also references the stars of the Seven, likened to a crown in the night, symbolizing a guiding light or destiny for those who have passed, further emphasizing the theme of the transient nature of existence and dreams.

“This record is a powerful mix of ethereal, shoegaze and darkwave genres, which came naturally when we started writing the record,” says Ria Aursjoen. “Each song has a slightly different feel from start to finish…This album is about coming to terms with isolation and loss in various forms, touching on themes that the whole world has dealt with face to face for the past few years – feelings and repercussions that have left a deep imprint on all of us. The music and lyrics are a natural extension of these emotions and thoughts, bubbling under the surface…It is a metaphor for the choice we have of our world view. It references geometries. In one geometric system the shortest path is a line. But in a curved space the shortest path is a curve. We can describe the world through either geometry. So, which way of looking at the world do we choose? This brings us back to the theme of separation and disconnection; the past few years have unearthed such deep divides over different world views that there is often no desire to attempt reconnection.”
“This record is very special to me as this was a totally different experience – putting a group of well-respected musicians together and starting the writing process in the middle of a pandemic, when the world was in isolation and in a state of shock,” says Randy Gzebb. “I think the whole feeling with everyone working ideas out together produced a special vibe when we got together and started writing the songs. I would start off with a drum groove and everyone started adding their ideas. After working out the ideas out with little back and forth, we started recording demos, which sounded like finished tracks without the polish you get when tracks a have been through the mixing phase.”
For this album’s recording, Octavian Winters chose the haunts of Mark Pistel, known for his work with Meat Beat Manifesto and Consolidated, at the illustrious OW Studio and Room 5 Recording. William Faith, whose résumé reads like a Who’s Who of the Gothic Elite (The Bellwether Syndicate, Faith and the Muse, Christian Death, The March Violets, Jarboe, Clan of Xymox), took the helm in production, mixing and mastering at 13 Studio in Chicago.

28.12.2023 - Love Never Dies — Los Angeles Post-Punk Project Your Labour Debuts “The Shape”

Losing someone or something dear opens the gate to a path strewn with the prickly thorns of grief and sorrow. This heartache mirrors the depth of our attachment; yet, in this emotional rollercoaster, lies a surprising capacity for steadfast devotion.
Los Angeles outfit Your Labour deftly straddles the realms of indie pop ecstasy and darkwave lament, crafting a sound that resonates with a deep, pulsating rhythm. Their track “The Shape” is an artful blend of shadowy post-punk exhilaration and harmonious drone, creating an ambience that feels both enigmatic and utterly captivating. Your Labour channels something strikingly gorgeous and otherworldly. One can hear echoes of TV On The Radio’s experimental vibrancy, The Soft Moon’s moody intensity, and the eclectic, avant-garde spirit of Animal Collective. It’s a unique sonic alchemy that sets Your Labour apart, marking them as a band that not only embraces but revels in the unconventional and the sublime.
“It’s about losing something dearly loved but remaining forever devoted,” says Your Labour’s Michael Faulkner. “I buried it in dirt a bit and spent a lot of time sculpting the emotional arc of the song out of that. Weird way of working but I think it ultimately has the intensity and mood I was hoping to bring.
The Shape delves into love’s staying power: unyielding, even when faced with loss. This haunting track bestows a subtle nod to the human heart’s remarkable talent for clinging to fondness and devotion, even when the object of such affection is no longer in the picture. Those memories, be they of a person or a cherished trinket, weaves in and out between states of wistful nostalgia, wrenching pain, and deep-seated gratitude. Emotional ties are not bound by the physical world, instead they echo in the spiritual and emotional realms. This could manifest in various forms, from living out the lost one’s values or desires, to keeping their memory alive with rituals or mementos, or simply by enshrining them in the chambers of one’s heart.
All in all, when you’re mired in ‘the feels,’ play this one and remember the good times.

28.12.2023 - Kadaitcha – Tramontane (Album – Ant-Zen)

Genre/Influences: Electro-Industrial, Experimental, Noise.
Format: Digital, Vinyl.
Background/Info: Kadaitcha is an Ukrainian duo driven by Yurii Samson and Andrii Kozhukhar. Their music has been introduced as exploring ‘organic aspects of Noise, Post-Industrial and archaic aesthetics – an extreme experience for another dimension.’ They previously released a few albums and this year joined hands together with Ant-Zen to unleash their newest opus.
Related newsKojoohar & Ködzid Goo – Dolta (Album – Ant-Zen)Content: The album stands for an eclectic production moving from Electro-Industrial stuff driven by slow rhythms and ghost-like vocals to Industrial & Experimental cuts reminding me of an imaginary transposition from Psychic TV into 2023. You also will notice that some passages sound like pure improvisation creating an apocalyptic sensation and a true Noise chaos.
+ + + : Kadaitcha definitely have created an own style and approach which sounds Industrial and Experimental but still Electronic on one side and moving at the edge of Noise on the other. It sounds to me as a sound collage creating an imaginary bridge between 80s Experimental music and contemporary formats.
– – – : I’m less into the more chaotic- and Noise parts of the work.
Related newsKadaitcha – Tar (Album – Ant-Zen)Conclusion: Kadaitcha is an interesting and precious addition to the Ant-Zen roster; an unpredictable album but always connected with Industrial music.

28.12.2023 - FIDDLER’S GREEN: The Green Machine
I Need A Volunteer“ beweisen.

28.12.2023 - Nashville Dark Electronic Music Project She Comes in Colors Debuts New Single “Cold”

I feel it missing in my heart
In 2021, an unusual music project started to emerge in Nashville’s renowned music scene. Led by Lenny Bryan and featuring various guest vocalists, such as Monica Moment, Nina, and Miriam Speyer, She Comes in Colors creates a unique fusion of dream pop with the dark electronic sounds of NIN and Depeche Mode’s Violator-era. The project is less about floating on clouds and more about zipping through a neon-lit soundscape on a retro-futuristic scooter. In this musical fusion, the traditional and modern blend, exchanging knowing nods and dancing together under the moonlight.
In the latest musical dispatch from She Comes In Colors, there’s a fresh voice at the helm – enter Nina, making her debut with a project with the single Cold. This isn’t your run-of-the-mill mopey ballad; it’s a bold proclamation of feeling utterly nothing. Imagine that – a song that captures the spirit of staring blankly into the refrigerator at midnight. Cold eschews the typical confessional diary entries set to music for something akin to a manifesto of numbness. Forget waving the white flag – this is a lyrical shoulder-shrug to the universal blahs.
Amidst this luminous chaos, Nina pushes her way through the song as a powerful beacon of nonchalance. With each blasé echo of “nothing in my heart,” she’s less the starry-eyed singer and more the queen of cool detachment. Her performance is less a display of raw emotion and more a masterclass in the art of the sophisticated shrug. In a world where everyone’s over-sharing their feelings, Nina embodies the spirit of “Meh, feelings. Who needs ’em?” with a glint of cynicism in her eye.
