Gone encapsulates a visceral voyage through disorientation and alienation, masterfully conveyed through its poignant lyrics. “Gone is an awakening of sorts, a shift in consciousness that hits like a fever dream,” says the band. “There’s no promise of some enlightening revelation to come, and it’s that terrifying feeling of losing your grip on reality where real transformation can take place.”

Drawing from the legacy of luminaries like Bronski Beat, Cabaret Voltaire, She Past Away, DAF, and even the unexpected touches reminiscent of Fine Young Cannibals, Sleek Teeth echoes and moulds those familiar echoes, creating a distinctive and foreboding signature.

For Gone, Sleek Teeth worked with director Jane Slater and director of photography Adrian Stucker to create a cinematic dystopian sci-fi music video. The central character, played by Mimi Chakravorty, navigates a mysterious and unsettling environment.

“Isolation, disorientation, and the feeling of being trapped- possibly in a feedback loop of your own design- were themes we set out to explore in the video,” says the band. “The lyrical repetition in the song inspired the idea of a mystery to be solved, repeating the same steps over and over, slowly realizing that you’re not where you’re supposed to be. Sometimes you have to venture into uncharted territory within yourself to find the way out.”

Founded in Paris in 1984 by Sascha Konietzko, KMFDM (Kein Mehrheit Für Die Mitleid, which the band loosely translates to ‘no mercy for the masses’) began as a performance art project and has since evolved into a multinational industrial powerhouse. Their unique sound, a fusion of heavy metal guitar riffs and electronic music, features a dynamic blend of both male and female vocals. KMFDM’s musical repertoire spans a diverse range of styles, including industrial rock, electronic body music, and even elements of reggae and dub. KMFDM’s musical journey began with their early albums, recorded in Germany, but it was their move to the USA that marked a turning point. As you climb, the face of the rock
Has a feeling that’s winding you tight
It’s alright, your instincts are always right
British shoegaze legends Ride (Andy Bell, Mark Gardener, Laurence Colbert, and Steve Queralt) formed in Oxford in 1988, quickly becoming prominent in the burgeoning shoegaze scene. Known for their distinctive fusion of dreamy, noise-infused melodies and introspective lyrical daydreams, Ride garnered early recognition with their debut album Nowhere in 1990, a seminal work in the shoegaze genre. Subsequent albums like 1992’s Going Blank Again showcased their evolving sound. The band initially split up in 1996 but reunited in 2014, celebrating their enduring influence on alternative rock.

Now, Ride have announced a new album, Interplay, out March 29 (via Wichita/PIAS).  Along with the announcement comes the vibrant, psychedelic single, Peace Sign. Bell explains that the song had been inspired by the film The Alpinist, about free climber Marc-André Leclerc.  “Soon after I’d finished working on the song I remember I was raving to my bandmates about Leclerc at OX4, and a good memory of that time was us all watching that film at Mark’s studio,’ he recalls.

Peace Sign is a bouncy, groovy journey of self-discovery and liberation with its euphoric sense of racing away from conformity and embracing instinct.  The chorus, with its call for a peace sign and hands in the air, evokes a sense of unity and presence. We’re tired of this winter of our discontent: let’s embrace new experiences, reroute our direction toward satisfaction, and embrace the present moment as we immerse ourselves in self-realization and authenticity.

In a poignant reflection of the times, the sentiment resonates deeply, particularly in light of the band’s hiatus during the pandemic. Emblematic of a shared longing for connection and normalcy, Peace Sign captures the spirit of a world emerging from isolation, finding solace and unity in the communal experience of music.

“This album has taken a long time to make, and has seen the band go through a lot of ups and downs; maybe the most of any Ride album,” says Bell. “But it has seen us come through the process as a band in a good place, feeling able to shake off the past, and ready to celebrate the combined musical talents that brought us together in the first place.”

Die Modern Melodic Death Metal / Metalcore-Band SUJIN hat nach dem Video-Clip zu “Bleeding Chains” mit “Winter Breeze” nun ein Lyric-Video ihres kommenden Albums “Save Our Souls” veröffentlicht. Es ist das erste Album der Franzosen, die zuvor unter dem Namen WHISPER NIGHT agierten.

“Save Our Souls” wurde von HK Krauss (u.a. für LOUDBLAST tätig) im Vamacara Studio produziert und wird am 16. Februar 20024 via Scarlet Records erscheinen. Das Cover-Artwork, das von Jon Ojibway (u.a. für PERSEFONE tätig) stammt, stellt eine präapokalyptische Landschaft dar, in der die letzte Bastion der Menschheit auf einem gigantischen Baum Zuflucht gefunden hat; das funkelnde Dreieck ist die letzte Energiequelle dieser kaputten Welt.

Emerging from a blend of darkness and glow sticks, Philly’s Goth Goth stitches together the sounds of The Cure, Bauhaus, The Clash, Television, and Blondie to forge a potent post-punk patchwork. With chime-like guitars, a heart-thumping bass, and groovy drums, they’re led by a frontman whose stage presence is as magnetic as it is moody. Known for electrifying live shows that leave the audience abuzz, Goth Goth serves a heaping helping of nostalgia with a 21st century twist.

Their new LP, Degradation Pink, brings a fresh twist to the music scene, blending modulated guitar riffs, solid bass lines, dance-inducing drums, and electrifying guitar solos. The album delves into themes of love, relationships, and disillusionment, showcasing a dynamic range of vocal performances in both English and Spanish.

Degradation Pink kicks off with the haunting track No Rave, featuring jangly guitars and compelling hooks that echo the sounds of The Gun Club, Southern Death Cult, and Lords of the New Church. Its lyrics paint a picture of unity and importance, casting the speakers as pivotal and selected figures of their time. The song gravitates towards the seriousness of their message, steering clear of any frivolous or party-like themes. Throughout, there’s a subtle yet palpable theme of obedience and control.

The album’s title track blends elements reminiscent of Interpol and The Damned, marked by a dramatic mid-song breakdown. The lyrics delve into a profound longing for intense, perhaps even painful, experiences as a conduit to feeling truly alive and authentic. They vividly portray a quest for both physical and emotional depth, hinting at non-traditional or BDSM-esque interactions, as a means to break free from feelings of unreality. Central themes of submission, intense desire, and personal transformation through pain underscore a search for genuine self-discovery.

The third song, Rain On Drexel Hill, is an elegantly simple memory fragment – and one hopes that SEPTA comes to fetch this soaking soul soon.

Master depicts a relationship centered on power dynamics and control. The submissive, likening themselves to a ‘lost dog,’ acknowledges the dom’s enjoyment in leading and using intimacy as a form of control. The song conveys themes of desire, BDSM, and the complexity of shame and pleasure within this dynamic.

The yearning Blooms takes a detour to a world similar to that of Liz Phair’s Exile in Guyville. Blooms unfolds as a nuanced emotional struggle, weaving through themes of vulnerability and self-doubt. With a female lead on this track, it wryly captures the transformation and emergence of femininity in the glow of love…but juxtaposed against feelings of unattractiveness and unworthiness. The narrative oscillates between dreamlike bliss and stark reality, intertwining tender memories with undercurrents of violence and loss. Central to its essence is the exploration of a profound, yet turbulent emotional bond, underscored by an underlying fear of being unlovable.

Next comes the cinematic Silence of The Killer, which takes a stab at hidden dangers lurking beneath a façade of normalcy. There’s a sense of ongoing, unnoticed decay and the futility of trying to revive what’s already lost. The song also hints at an insatiable, malevolent force, threatening not just the individual but their loved ones. Sometimes maintaining appearances can be lifesaving in this nightmarish existence.

Duerme Mi Querida, sung in Spanish, paints a vivid picture of a love story tinged with distance and yearning. It captures the essence of one partner’s hesitation to reach out, shadowed by the fear of being a nuisance. The song beautifully illustrates a routine steeped in tenderness: waking up to the other’s late return, sealed with a soft kiss. Amidst this backdrop, it highlights a deep-seated trust and honesty that binds them, despite the challenges posed by their conflicting schedules—one living by the moon’s cycle, the other by the sun’s. Yet, in those brief, shared moments at dawn, their connection reignites. Throughout the chorus, a heartfelt reaffirmation of trust, enduring love, and the resilience of their relationship echoes, underlining the song’s emotive core.

Channeling later Modest Mouse, SPECTRES, and Franz Ferdinand, LBP (Low Budget Porno) expresses a strong message of resistance and defiance against oppressive systems. They encourage fighting back against manipulation and deceit, urging the listener to break free from the control and lies imposed by others. The song portrays a struggle to preserve one’s authentic self and desires in a world that undervalues and undermines individuality, likening it to being trapped in a low-quality, exploitative situation.

Next, sounding like a lost Kinks-meets-The Smiths track, Cult Singer examines a dicey relationship with a deceptively perfect individual. The intertwining of morals, ideals, and physical attraction are all shrouded in a fading façade; reflecting upon the dual roles of victim and villain in both partners, driven by blind emotion and misguided intentions. Do you choose stability or entrapment in a beautiful illusion?

The album closes with the gentle Spanish of Euphoria, another ballad of entrapment and alienation. The speaker feels engulfed in pain and unable to find an escape, likening themselves to a ghost wandering through their dreams. They feel consumed from within, as if their existence is only validated through others’ perceptions. The body feels alien, expected to be given away to anyone who desires it. The absence of joy or euphoria is starkly noted, highlighting a profound sense of despair and emptiness.

Die Noise / Industrial / Sludge-Band GUILTLESS hat mit “Thorns” eine neue EP angekündigt. Es ist der erste Release des US-amerikanischen Quartetts, welches aus Drummer Billy Graves (GENERATION OF VIPERS, A STORM OF LIGHT), Gitarrist Dan Hawkins (A STORM OF LIGHT), Bassist Sacha Dunable (INTRONAUT) sowie Gitarrist und Sänger Josh Graham (A STORM OF LIGHT, BATTLE OF MICE) besteht.

Auf “Thorns”, das am 23. Februar 2024 via Neurot Recordings erscheinen wird, versucht sich die Band die surreale Rückkehr zur proto-menschlichen Gesellschaft vorzustellen und wie das Leben der Überlebenden des nächsten Massenaussterbens aussehen könnte. Vorab gibt es den Track “All We Destroy” zu hören – ein Song der von der Margaret Atwood Kurzgeschichte “Time Capsule Found On The Dead Planet” inspiriert ist.

ABORTED stellen ihr kommendes Album “Vault Of Horrors” mit einer ersten Single vor:  Zu ‘Death Cult’ gibt es ein Video bei YouTube, der Song ist auch eine Hommage an “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre”, als Gast hat DESPISED ICON-Sänger Alex Erian mitgewirkt.

Alex Erian ist nicht der einzige Kollege, der auf dem Album zu hören ist. Zu ihm gesellen sich unter anderem Johnny Ciardullo (CARCOSA / ANGELMAKER), Ben Duerr (SHADOW OF INTENT) und Francesco Paoli (FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE).

Die Psychedelic / Stoner Rock-Band SUNDRIFTER hat mit “An Earlier Time” ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist nach “Not Coming Back” (2016) und “Visitations” (2019) das dritte Album des US-amerikanischen Trios aus Boston, welches aus Sänger und Gitarrist Craig Peura Bassist Paul Gaughran sowie Drummer Patrick Queenan besteht.

“An Earlier Time” wurde gemeinsam mit Dan Schwartz aufgenommen und gemixt und von Chris Goosman (u.a. für GOZU tätig) gemastert. Erscheinen wird das Album am 16. Februar 2024 via Small Stone Recordings. Vorab gibt es den Track “Begin Again” zu hören.

“”Begin Again” beschreibt den ständigen Kampf, um negative Selbstgespräche und den Schmerz zu überwinden, den sie mit sich bringen können, wenn sie dir von deinen Misserfolgen erzählen, und die Aufregung, die aufkommt, wenn du dich entscheidest, sie anzuerkennen und neu zu beginnen”, erklärt Bandleader Craig Peura.

Die Heavy Rock-Band RAVENSTINE hat einen Labeldeal bei Massacre Records unterschrieben. Im Zuge dessen hat die internationale Band ihr neues Album “2024” veröffentlicht. Es ist nach einem selbstbetitelten Album die zweite Full-length-Scheibe der Band. Neu ist der Visualizer-Clip “Fly Eagle Fly” bei YouTube.

Mit “A Long Way Home” gibt es außerdem einen weiteren Video-Clip.

“Der Song dreht sich um den Umstand, wie es sich anfühlt, wenn man seine Heimat verlassen muss und nach der der Rückkehr feststellt, das es nicht mehr die Heimat ist, die sie einst war”, erklärt Sänger Martin Sosna. “Die Menschen im Ahrtal haben genau dieses Schicksal erlitten, denn viele haben Haus, Hof oder gar Familienmitglieder verloren. Sie mussten ihre Heimat verlassen. Wer je vor der Flutkatastrophe im Ahrtal war, der wird nachvollziehen können, wenn wir sagen: Die einstige Heimat ist nicht mehr so wie sie war und sie wird auch nie mehr wieder so sein.”

“2024” wurde von Dan Baune (DAN BAUNE’S LOST SANCTUARY, DEVIL´S TRAIN, Ex-MONUMENT) bei Noise Foundry Productions gemastert und mit einem Cover-Artwork von Frank Fiedler ausgestattet. Erschienen ist das Album am 12. Januar 2024.

Das DEAF FOREVER wird zehn Jahre alte – gefeiert wird am Samstag, 21. September 2024, in der Hamburger Markthalle. Beim BIRTHDAY BASH spielen fünf Bands, im Anschluss gibt’s eine Metal Disco.

Zu den Gratulanten gehören auch KERRIGAN, die Freiburger Heavy metal-Band wurde 2023 zu Newcomer des Jahres im DEAF FOREVER gewählt.

Die Namen zweier Bands sind schon seit Jahresanfang bekannt, zum Geburtstagsfest spielen auch CIRITH UNGOL und ASPHYX auf. Das weitere Billing wird noch bekannt gegeben.

Am 1. März 2024 erscheint “Profane Prayers”, das neue Album von SUICIDAL ANGELS. Am gleichen Tag startet auch die Europa-Tour der griechischen Thrash Metal-Band, in Deutschland sind elf Konzerte angekündigt, in der Schweiz und Österreich je eines. Düsterer muss nicht unbedingt auch härter bedeuten. Mit ihrem Vorhaben, jede neue Veröffentlichung ein wenig dunkler als die Vorherige werden zu lassen, haben sich ALLUVIAL ein ambitioniertes Ziel gesetzt. Richtig beklemmend wird die EP aber erst beim abschließenden Titelstück „Death Is But A Door“, wo das Quartett den Fuß vom Gas nimmt und ihrem sonst so rabiaten Sound einen Hauch Sludge hinzuaddiert. Besonders der kehlige Klargesang Wes Hauchs untermalt die tragische wie bittere Geschichte, deren doomig-bedrückendes Ambiente für ein unerwartetes Ende des Mini-Albums sorgt.

Immerhin haben uns ALLUVIAL zuvor noch ein ganz anderes Gesicht präsentiert, als sie uns in “Bog Dweller” mit Tempowechseln, Blasts, mächtigen Growls und Bending ihre moderne Interpretation progressiven Death Metals vor den Latz geknallt hatten. Eine kleine Prise Djent und Deathcore-Einsprengsel sorgen nebst der kraftvollen Produktion für einen zeitgemäßen Anstrich, der phasenweise an RIVERS OF NIHIL oder sogar THY ART IS MURDER („Area Code“) erinnern kann, letztlich allerdings einen atmosphärisch klaustrophobischeren Ansatz verfolgt. Insbesondere die kreischende Gitarre im mahlenden „Fogbelt“ lässt uns ein ums andere Mal die Haare zu Berge stehen.

Lichtblicke dürften in der Welt ALLUVIALs künftig rar gesät sein
Im positiven Sinn natürlich, denn am Ende erreichen ALLUVIAL genau auf diese Weise ihr anfänglich gesetztes Ziel. Obwohl „Death Is But A Door“ zwischendurch härtere Bandagen aufzieht, ziehen uns die US-Amerikaner zuvorderst aufgrund der unheilschwangeren Grundstimmung tiefer in das dunkle Loch, das sie bereits mit „Sarcoma“ (2021) auszuheben begonnen haben. Wie weit es noch bis zum Grund ist, können wir an dieser Stelle bestenfalls erahnen, schließlich dürften Lichtblicke bei der in dieser zunehmend bedrückenden Umgebung künftig rar gesät sein.

About King Yosef and Trace Amount

King Yosef is the solo project of musician, producer and singer Tayves Yosef Pelletier from Portland, Oregon, USA. His music can be best described as a mix of noise-rap, industrial-metal and bleeding-throat metallic hardcore.

Trace Amount is the solo project of Brooklyn-based producer, vocalist, and visual artist, Brandon Gallagher. First conceived in 2019, Trace Amount took shape just before the early stages of the pandemic, but has already moulted various exoskeletons in its brief time of existence. “Simulation Fetish” will be the first new material since “Anti Body Language”, the debut full-length album released in April 2022 via Federal Prisoner, a label founded by Greg Puciato (The Dillinger Escape Plan, The Black Queen) and visual artist Jesse Draxler. The “Simulation Fetish” EP will be released in its entirety before a yet-to-be-announced April USA tour on Friday, March 22nd.

“Simulation Fetish” was mixed by Rhys Fulber of Front Line Assembly. Trace Amount will be releasing the tracks intermittently throughout another leg of international touring, featuring dates in Australia with Greg Puciato, Japan with King Yosef, and the United Kingdom again with Greg Puciato in January through March. The first track “Living Accessory” has reached all streaming platforms on Wednesday, January 10th.

Es ist nach “Malignant Dominion” (2019) und “Upheaval” (2021) das dritte Album der Engländer aus Leeds.

“Phantazein” ist ein Konzeptalbum, das sich mit dem komplizierten Zusammenspiel von Kunst, Besessenheit und dem tiefgreifenden Einfluss der eigenen Umgebung beschäftigt. Das Album wurde von Ronnie Björnström (MEZZROW, Ex-BONE GNAWER) gemixt und gemastert und mit einem Cover-Artwork von Dan P Carter (KROKODIL, HEXES, Ex-BLOODHOUND GANG) ausgestattet. Erscheinen wird das Album am 26. Januar 2024 via Willowtip Records.

BOKASSA haben mit einem Video zu “The Ending Starts Today” eine weitere neue Single veröffentlicht – der Song stammt vom neuen Album “All Out Of Dreams”, das am 16. Februar 2024 via Indie Recordings veröffentlicht wird.

Die Band beschreibt ihre neue Platte so:

„All Out Of Dreams ist ein Album, auf dem das Gefühl der Resignation in mehreren Tracks präsent ist. Ob es nun um das eigene Versagen geht oder ob man das Gefühl hat, dass das System versagt hat – vielleicht aufgrund einer verfehlten Regierungspolitik – oder dass man einfach komplett aufgegeben hat. Der gemeinsame Nenner ist, dass alle, von denen man in den Texten hört, die Hoffnung verloren haben, worauf auch der Titel des Albums – All Out Of Dreams – anspielt. Der Name des Albums könnte allerdings auch als direkte Anspielung auf unsere eigene Karriere und den Traum von der eigenen Privatinsel im Pazifik gesehen werden. Leider müssen die Massen erst noch einen guten Musikgeschmack entwickeln – dieser Traum ist also derzeit wohl eher nicht existent.“

“The Ending Starts Today” ist bereits die vierte Single: Im November stellten BOKASSA mit einem Video zu “Let’S Storm The Capitol” einen weiteren Vorab-Song vor. Im Oktober teilten BOKASSA die Single “All Out of Dreams”. Im Song geht es die Vorteile des Eremiten-Daseins:

Wenn fast alles mittelmäßig erscheit, und man bei Treffen nur leeren Smalltalk wiederkäut, kann man das Ganze auch einfach sein lassen und zu Hause bleiben. Dies ist ein Song über den Versuch, den Kontakt mit anderen Menschen zu vermeiden und sich in seine eigenen Gedanken und Hobbys zu flüchten. Zum Beispiel Computergames,  das deutet ja das Intro an.  Es ist eine Art Hymne für “freiwillige Einzelgänger”, ein Lied für alle, die sich fühlen wie Stan in der South Park-Folge “You’re Getting Old”!”

Schon im August teilten die Norweger mit einem Video zu “Garden Of Heathen” bei YouTube den ersten Track der kommenden Platte.  Für “Garden Of Heathen” hatten BOKASSA mit Lou Koller von SICK OF IT ALL zusammengearbeitet.

BOKASSA beschreiben den Track so:

“Garden of Heathen” ist ein schneller, riff-orientierter und melodischer Stonerpunk-Songs mit einem unserer besten Refrains. Ein Favorit der Band und der perfekte Album-Opener. Seine Explosivität macht ihn zu einem echten Knaller. Und dass Legende Lou Koller von SICK OF IT ALLbei diesem Song zu hören ist, ist einfach nur episch!”

The Italian band Kirlian Camera releases the track “Götter, geht weg!” (translated from German as “Gods, go away!”) as the second single from the forthcoming new double album “Radio Signals for the Dying“. The release date of “Radio Signals for the Dying” has been slated to February 23, 2024.

Kirlian Camera comments: “Gods, go away, as you are not worth being here, if this is what you created, if this is what you do best”, vocalist Elena Alice Fossi declares. “The pitiful caricatures that have been pointed out to us as ‘gods’ are not even worthy of our hatred. Not least because we know much more evolved entities than that rubbish called – precisely – ‘gods’. In the fury of time-that-doesn’t-exist, our spiritual laziness creates god and the gods.”

Amsterdam’s Automatic Noise Festival 2024 presents an immersive shoegaze experience with international flair. Headlining this year’s event are live performances from acclaimed artists Pam Risourié, Resplandor, Eosine, and Wan.

Additionally, the festival will host a special vinyl release and listening party for Life On Venus’s ‘Homewards‘ (AE028). DJ Dragnet takes over the decks, spinning an eclectic mix of shoegaze, post-rock, dream pop, and post-punk. Get ready for an evening that celebrates the beauty of sound through ethereal voices, mesmerizing distortion, and walls of beautiful noise!

Pam Risourié
Pam Risourié, a Parisian band, debuted their first album ‘Days of Distortion‘ last March. The album was recorded in the scenic Normandy and boasts an impressive production team: mixed and produced by Lucas Ramos at OneTwoPassIt Studio, known for his work with artists like Guts and Frustration, and mastered by Simon Scott, the acclaimed drummer of the iconic shoegaze band Slowdive.

‘Days of Distortion‘ is akin to an underground odyssey, reminiscent of a dream fragmenting and reverberating through walls of guitar sounds. The album delves into a mental landscape, exploring themes of derealization, hypersensitivity, and love.”

Resplandor
Resplandor, based in the Netherlands, has made a significant mark in the shoegaze music scene. Their latest albums, Pleamar and Tristeza, were crafted with the expertise of Robin Guthrie (Cocteau Twins) and mastered by Simon Scott (Slowdive).2023 also saw the release of a 15th-anniversary deluxe edition of Pleamar, which includes the original album plus remixes in a double LP format.

The band’s impressive history includes supporting iconic groups like The Cure — most recently in Lima, Peru, on November 22, 2023, as part of The Cure’s South American Tour 2023. Resplandor’s reputation extends beyond supporting The Cure in 2013 and 2023; they have also shared stages with Slowdive, The Jesus & Mary Chain, The House Of Love, and The Radio Dept. Their festival appearances are equally notable, with performances at Grauzone (The Hague, NL), SXSW (Austin, USA), Culture Collide (Los Angeles, USA), and Veltrac Music Festival (Lima, PE), showcasing their global appeal through tours across Europe, North, and South America.

Eosine, a Belgian rock quartet, merges the noisy and ethereal vibes of shoegaze with progressive structures, anchored by harmonious vocals and heartfelt melodies. Their intense, psychedelic performances, which won them the First Prize at Concours Circuit 2022, led to the release of their second EP ‘Coralline‘, mixed and mastered by Mark Gardener of Ride. Die Death Metal-Band HYPOXIA hat mit “Defiance” ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist nach “Despondent Death” (2015) und “Abhorrent Disease” (2019) das dritte Album der US-Amerikaner aus New York.

“Defiance” wurde von Noah Buchanan in den Mercinary Studios gemixt und gemastert und mit einem Cover-Artwork von Daemorph ausgestattet. Erscheinen wird das Album am 23. Februar 2024 via Selfmadegod Records. Vorab gibt es mit “Bleed For Blasphemy” ein Lyric-Video.
