Oakland’s Still Ruins, a trio which includes Frankie Soto, Jose Medina, and Cyrus VandenBerghe, have recently released their debut self-titled EP, a record that serves as an intriguing blend of Dream-Pop, New Wave, and Post-Punk. The record reimagines the essence of these classic 80s sounds, offering a contemporary flair that melds perfectly into the retro atmosphere currently permeating the underground music scene.

Rich in soundscapes and heartfelt vocals, the EP echoes the styles of China Crisis, Choir Boy, ABC, Spandau Ballet, and early Tears For Fears while maintaining a unique identity. Each of the five tracks skillfully combines engaging melodies with fluid rhythms, resulting in a cohesive and immersive listening experience, feeling like songs culled from a John Hughes soundtrack from a parallel universe.

The album kicks off with the poignant track Silhouette, immediately immersing us in a poignant moment, where a person’s presence strikes us profoundly, yet from a distance. It hints at the possibility that they’ve lost faith in the situation and are willing to trade their identity for a chance at redemption. There’s a palpable longing and a glimmer of transformation within these shadows. Next comes the lead single, Perfect Blue, setting itself apart with its refined elegance, profound emotional depth, and an aura of contemplative composure.  The song’s message revolves around someone who attempted to go unnoticed but left an enduring imprint. Despite their absence, the hope persists that they might reappear…at the speaker’s discretion.

Next comes a plea for intimacy and honesty, yearning for comforting moments in Until Then. We all seek assurance of love’s arrival, despite its past trials. Promising unwavering patience, one must grant time for the other to find direction. The lyrics echo the hope of a future filled with love, trust, and understanding.

The lyrics of the poignant Of Devotion delve into themes of disconnection and abandonment, capturing the struggle to grasp a semblance of reality and seek healing. They convey a deep yearning for someone who has traversed a challenging path, awaiting liberation and experiencing a profound sense of being forsaken. This emotional turmoil becomes evident as the singer contends with their inner feelings and the gravity of their past experiences.

Directed by Eli Wengrin, the video for the track is a delightful glimpse of the band by the seaside, shedding the protective armor of pretense. It exudes a pure 80s synthpop nostalgia, embracing a mellowness that harks back to the ambiance of a homecoming dance in 1986.

The final track on the EP, Left Against, expresses a sense of persistence and commitment. They see themselves as the entertainer, always trying to bring joy to their partner; willing to endure hardships and remain accessible. It’s a beautiful reminder of enduring dedication and a willingness to reciprocate, even during difficult circumstances.

Seit gut 8 Jahren arbeiten sich nun schon Daniel und Sebastian Selke als Neo Klassik-Duo mittels der experimentellen Kombination von Cello und Klavier an ihrer Herkunft aus Ostdeutschland ab. Mit den drei Alben „Concrete Fields“, „Waende“ und „Hiddensee“ haben sie unter dem etwas sperrigen Namen CEEYS eine äußerst interessante und empfehlenswerte Trilogie über ihre Kindheit und Jugend im „real existierenden Sozialismus“ zwischen Plattenbau und Ostseeküste veröffentlicht. 2022 erfolgte mit dem Album „Marienborn“ der Wechsel zum einprägsameren Namen BRUEDER SELKE und mit dem aktuellen Werk verlassen sie nun auch das Gebiet der ehemaligen DDR. Man bleibt jedoch der kommunistischen Ära verhaftet, denn „Belka & Strelka“ ist ein Konzept-Album über die sowjetische Raumfahrt bzw. deren Versuche mit Tieren, bevor der erste bemannte Weltraumflug mit Juri Gagarin erfolgte. Belka und Strelka waren die ersten Hunde, welche damals lebend wieder aus dem Weltall zurück gekehrt waren. Die wesentlich bekanntere Hündin Laika hatte zuvor dieses Glück leider nicht, diente dafür aber schon als Vorlage für einige Rock Band-Namen. Jetzt haben die BRUEDER SELKE den beiden anderen „Space Dogs“ ebenso ein musikalisches Denkmal gesetzt. Das Album wurde dafür 2022 kurz nach Ende der Corona-Pandemie Live in Dresden im Jazzclub Tonne eingespielt, übrigens einer der schönsten Veranstaltungsorte der Fürstenstadt! Ich hatte das Glück, damals vor Ort zu sein und diesen intimen wie intensiv-berauschen Konzert beizuwohnen. Die BRUEDER SELKE bedienten sich an jenem Abend deutlich mehr ihrer analogen Vintage Elektronik aus dem Hause Vermona und Soma und kombinierten die nervös flackernden Sounds mit mal sperrig-dissonant gezupften, wie warm brummenden gestrichenen Cello-Klängen. Als äußerst angenehm bei den beiden Brüdern empfinde ich immer schon den völligen Verzicht auf Pathetik und solistischer Show und so auch wieder bei diesem ganz besonderem Konzert. „Belka & Strelka“ changiert irgendwo im Niemandsland zwischen Schwere und Leichtigkeit, klingt melancholisch versonnen, verträumt und verspielt. Man schwebt förmlich aus der tiefen Vergangenheit in eine ungewisse Zukunft, jedoch mit dem Wissen um die Geschichte von Belka und Strelka. Strelka bekam nach dem Flug 6 Welpen, wovon Nikita Chruschtschow eine Hündin der Tochter von John F. Kennedy schenkte und diese sich dann wiederum mit dem Kennedy-Hund Charlie paarte. Dieser Wurf hatte weite 4 Welpen zur Folge, welche von JFK als Pupniks (Mischung aus Puppy und Sputnik) betitelt wurden – vielleicht gibt es ja doch noch Hoffnung für diese Welt?! Erst einmal bleibt aber dieses wunderbare Album, welches sehr audiophil klingt und ich deshalb besonders die Vinyl-Ausgabe ans Herz legen möchte. Bei jener kommt, abgesehen von der hervorragenden Pressung, das schöne Cover-Artwork natürlich am besten zur Geltung und neben einem Beiblatt und gefütterter Innenhülle, ist auch noch ein Download-Code enthalten. „Belka & Strelka“ ist mein persönliches Konzept-Album des Jahres 2023! Poison Point, the enthralling solo project of Paris-based producer and live artist Timothée Gainet, emerged onto the scene in 2016. Die US-amerikanische Black Metal-Band HULDER hat mit “Verses In Oath” ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist nach “Godslastering: Hymns of a Forlorn Peasantry” (2021) das zweite Album der von Marliese Osborne geleiteten Band. Unterstützt wird die in Belgien geborene Künstlerin von ihrem Mann und Bassist Samuel Osborne (FUNEBRARUM, Ex-UNDERGANG) sowie Drummer Charles Koryn (FUNEBRARUM, ASCENDED DEAD).

In the sprawling urban labyrinth of Los Angeles, where the shadowy beats of the underground music scene resonate across the globe, resides the enigmatic masked maestro Kontravoid (aka Cameron Findlay). This Canadian electronic music virtuoso plunges headfirst into the abyss of dystopia, isolation, and existentialism, crafting an auditory journey that’s moodier than your average goth at a family reunion. Kontravoid’s music is like being in a dark, smoky room with a hint of existential dread, and someone whispers something into your ear, causing you to crack a wry smile.

Building on this enigmatic presence, Kontravoid unleashes “For What It Is,” the lead single from his forthcoming album Detachment. The song is like a jetski through a neon-lit haunted house, with dizzying arpeggiated synths that set the scene for a retro-futuristic ghost story, while Kontravoid’s vocals are so dark and brooding that they make Edgar Allan Poe sound like Dr. Seuss. In the ever-evolving landscape of the international darkwave scene, Kontravoid casts a long, enigmatic shadow. This masked persona, emerging from the depths of Cameron Findlay’s psyche, has etched a distinctive mark in the genre since his self-titled debut in 2012. With this inaugural album, not only did an arresting new voice emerge, but also a sound that defies easy categorization—a hypnotic fusion of EBM, electro, and gothic sensibilities that lingers in the mind like a half-remembered dream.

The music of Kontravoid is less a collection of songs and more a voyage into the stygian reaches of dance music. His 2019 album, Too Deep, pulses with a life force seemingly drawn from the most hidden, mist-laden dance floors of the underground scene. In 2021, the Faceless EP continued this trajectory, its spectral melodies weaving through the strobe-lit ether, calling out to the lost souls of the night.

Yet, there’s a profound emotional depth to Kontravoid’s compositions that belies their mechanical shell. His music transcends mere rhythmic exploration to become poignant reflections of the human condition. Blazing Eternity wurde 1993 in Kopenhagen, Dänemark, gegründet und veröffentlichte 1996 und 1998 zwei erfolgreiche Demotapes, die zu einem Vertrag mit der deutschen Prophecy Productions führten. Daraus entstanden die beiden Alben „Times And Unknown Waters“ (2000) und „A World To Drown In“ (2003) sowie Auftritte auf großen Festivals wie dem Roskilde Festival und dem Wave Gotik Treffen.

Nach 2004 war die Band nicht mehr aktiv – bis 2011/2012, als sich Blazing Eternity für vier Konzerte in Dänemark und Deutschland reformierten.

Danach legte die Band eine Pause ein, begann aber 2019 heimlich mit der Arbeit an neuem Material – was zu einem brandneuen Album führte, das 2024 veröffentlicht werden soll. With their latest single, “Chemical Animal,” The Jesus and Mary Chain do more than revisit the brooding demons from the shadow-laced alleys of their past – they exorcise them. Following in the wake of their “jamcod,” their first new music from Glasgow Eyes, the follow-up to their 2017 LP, Damage and Joy, the new song sees the band riding a wave of renewed vitality, plunging into the uncharted waters of their fourth decade with a fearless spirit, while retaining the heart of what makes the JAMC great.

“Chemical Animal” orchestrates a dense, foreboding atmosphere, descending into a realm of darkness that mirrors the song’s claustrophobic lyrics. In contrast to “jamcod,” which alluded to the JAMC’s notorious 1998 House of Blues performance and ensuing split, this new track ventures deeper into the band’s mythology, shunning sheer ferocity for a more philosophical approach and blending swirling drones and sequencers with their iconic guitar work. “Chemical Animal” marks a journey through unease and introspection, offering a meditative exploration of the enigmatic legacy wrought by the band.

“Our work on our autobiography definitely bled into our work on the album,” says Jim Reid. “…I was thinking back to those dark days of chemical dependency. When you fall so deep into that hole that everything you do is by instinct. The drugs are the driving force. The thing that gets you from a to b is whether you can score. It was a horrible way to live and I’m thankful I don’t live that way any more. One effect is that it made me aware of how our brains, who we are, how we feel, and what we do, depend on our neural chemistry, a chemistry beyond our control. It’s a biological curse we can’t escape.”

The Jesus and Mary Chain, with their latest single, “Chemical Animal,” makes a powerful statement about their unwavering dynamism and resilience. This track not only heralds the arrival of their eagerly awaited album “Glasgow Eyes,” set for release on March 8th through Fuzz Club, but also highlights the band’s exceptional ability to evolve by fusing the raw energy of their early days with a mature, intricate sound.

The album, featuring artwork by William Reid, will be released in limited edition physical formats, including double-colored vinyl (1000 copies), double black vinyl (500 copies), and single splatter vinyl (1000 copies). In addition to the album release, The Jesus and Mary Chain are set to embark on an extensive tour across the UK, Ireland, and Europe starting in March. The high demand for their performances is evident, as additional shows have been added in both London and Manchester following the rapid sell-out of initial dates. NEW MODEL ARMY veröffentlichen am 26. Januar 2024 ihr neues Album “Unbroken”, ab März sind die Briten auf Tour.

Die erste Single,ein Video zu “The First Summer After”, veröffentlichten die Briten im November zusammen mit den ersten Details zu “Unbroken”.

„Wir haben Mitte 2021 in unserem eigenen Studio angefangen, erste Ideen zu schreiben und aufzunehmen. Schon früh wussten wir, dass unsere erste Wahl für den Mix der legendäre Tchad Blake sein würde. Das Album klingt nach uns, aber doch anders, und es wurde grandios abgemischt – kraftvoll, dynamisch und musikalisch“, sagt die Band.

Der Ticketverkauf für die Tour beginnt am 3. November 2023, am selben Tag erscheint auch die erste Single aus “Unbroken”.

Alas, over before they ever really began, DRILL was already operating in the past tense with their first (and last) full-length LP, Permanent.

In a bold and adventurous move, this intrepid trio channeled their creative energy into crafting eight electrifying songs. Recorded live in a mere two days by the skillful hands of Lucas Knapp in a gritty Philly basement, it’s as if the band has taken a page from Pink Floyd’s playbook – but instead of fading into obscurity, they’re boldly delivering their resignation letter right to your desk and then setting it all alight in a blaze of glory.

With Permanent, DRILL has bestowed upon us a resounding and delightfully freaky final missive that traverses the spectrum from artful noise pop to laser-focused hardcore punk. This is no ordinary swan song; it’s a triumphant (and unforgettable) last hurrah! Though the album is titled Permanent, everything about it is about a series of goodbyes. Ultimately, even the insert instructs you not to be too precious with it: it contains instructions which direct you to fold the insert into a boat and sail it away.  Cheeky as always, the band says goodbye in the only way they know how – the last line of it reads: Remember: Nothing is permanent.

Permanent comes out in early March via Philadelphia label Abandon Everything Records.

From the underground scene of Minsk, Belarus, to the vibrant atmosphere of Augsburg, Germany, the journey of The Violent Youth has been as dynamic and varied as the artistic versatility, bold experimentation, and passionate songwriting of its founder, Arthur Tsymbal. With the recent addition of bassist Julian Riegel, this new wave/post-punk project, established in 2017, has garnered acclaim, enriching the music scene with five albums since its inception, with the previous LP, Ostavaites Na Linii, having been released in 2021.

In 2023, The Violent Youth joined the Artoffact Records roster, culminating in the label’s recent release of the band’s latest work, “Na Igle.” While the album represents the fifth entry in The Violent Youth’s discography it is the third to be recorded in Russian. Throughout its 12 songs, the haunting echoes of Eastern acts like KINO, Biokonstruktor, and Tehnologia merge seamlessly with the stylistic nuances of Western icons such as Pet Shop Boys, Depeche Mode, Ultravox, and Alphaville. This fusion crafts a soundscape where the melancholic depths of post-punk and the intricate layers of darkwave intertwine, creating a mesmerizing interplay that is both deep and diverse. Steeped in these contrasting juxtaposition of dark guitars, vibrant synths, and subtle 80s-style dance grooves, the record paradoxically provides an upbeat backdrop to some of life’s more somber themes. This results in a dynamic auditory experience, oscillating between moments of introspective stillness and vibrant energy. It invites listeners to either sway in reflective silence or energetically dance through cathartic perdition.

Opening fierce, the album commences with the icy intensity guitar and synth-driven 20s, a song that reflects on the uncertainty of the future and the challenges faced in the current world. The singer contemplates the new year, struggling against difficulties and societal fears. The 2020s are, as we all well know, a period of turmoil and questioning, with a gritty atmosphere and a sense of perseverance. Poslednii Dens describes a moment of intimacy and connection in the face of impending doom as two people find solace in each other’s company, dancing in the moonlight with a glass of wine. It’s a last dance, a final moment together as the world teeters on the brink of destruction. The lyrics convey a sense of urgency and the desire to make the most of their time before an uncertain fate.

Painting a bleak picture of a world in chaos, the following track, Prah (which features a captivating 180-degree VR Video,) seeks solace amid the turmoil. Tears cascade from the sky like bullets as despair takes hold. Yet, amidst the grim circumstances, a yearning for love and connection emerges, a desire to erase the violence. It’s a profound testament to the resilience of the human spirit in the face of destruction.



Transitioning to Serdtse, the mood shifts to one of detachment and disillusionment. The metaphor of an empty fridge symbolizes a void, conveying a chilling indifference and serving as a reflection on the fleeting nature of love and the inevitability of loss.

The intricate Nenavizhu – lyublyu delves into the complexities of a love-hate relationship. It portrays a profound conflict, a desire to hold onto the person while simultaneously not needing their presence. There’s an undercurrent of longing and desperation, as if the song’s protagonist’s only chance to see them might be at their own funeral.

Ya Ne Hochu explores feelings of fear, disappointment, and weariness in the face of a world that promises prosperity, but often delivers pain and bruises. The singer longs for protection but feels disconnected from the world, as if emotions have become numb and life has lost its color and warmth. The title song, Na Igle, spirals into a directionless descent into a metaphorical hell. The imagery evokes a sense of pain, numbness, and a world engulfed in darkness. It conveys a feeling of submission and servitude, with the promise of becoming a hero through obedience, but at the cost of losing oneself.

The theme of dissociation takes center stage in Eto Li Lubov? (feat. Stereopolina). It delves into an intense connection that seems to siphon the singer’s vitality and emotions. The lyrics paint a portrait of love that both wounds and confounds, leaving the singer to question if it’s a genuine affection or a treacherous path to the edge. Amidst this, there’s an undercurrent of yearning for this enigmatic figure, even if it’s just a brief encounter, yet ultimately, it remains a mirage from the pages of a book. Paris tells of a person who writes poetry, captures moments on camera, and cherishes scents and lipstick. Their life involves constant travel, from high-flying airplanes to various time zones, especially between Paris and Munich. They express a longing for someone who remains distant, regardless of location.

In Nikto, a woman who weeps in the evening, concealed behind closed windows, becomes a haunting presence. Her tears obscure the laughter over the phone, while an inner tempest rages unchecked, with no one penning words or awaiting her. Her allure and melodious voice enchant, yet her pallid hair foretells a looming tragedy. Her eyes, an ocean; her heart, ice; her thoughts, a tumultuous storm, all go unnoticed, leaving her unanticipated and alone. Nebo delves into a world where names are forgotten, distinctions between friend and foe blur, and honor is absent. The singer seeks to dissolve into the distant sky, leaving no trace behind. It’s a farewell, a closure marked by silence, where forgiveness replaces clenched fists.

Finally, Odinochestvo speaks of escape beyond the speed of light, revealing what’s already gone, and confessing lies. It anticipates betrayal and offers a resurrection with passionate kisses. The lyrics confront a world of smoke-filled eyes and rare tears, where even the devil grows weary. It’s a tale of unfulfilled dreams, loneliness, and the inevitable.

“It’s a very exciting moment for us,” gushes Arthur Tsymbal. “I have been working on “Na Igle” for almost two years, and met lots of cool and interesting people, including Julian who has been playing bass in TVY since 2022. Lots of things have changed. We became a duo, recorded “Na Igle” in Augsburg, mixed in Hamburg, had lots of happy and difficult moments and now – it is out, it lives! We are very proud of this album and looking forward to playing it live.”

The Violent Youth’s fourth album, Ostavaites Na Linii (Hold The Line), saw its release in the fall of 2021. It continued to sculpt the dark, signature sound that the band is renowned for, interlaced with moderate elements of 80s synthpop. This time around, for their fifth LP, they decided to weave in some more experimental elements to some of the danceable vibes, all while maintaining that heart-touching vulnerability that fans have come to cherish. The result seamlessly blends chaos and harmony together in a soundtrack that embodies the immense complexities and paradoxes inherent in the human experience.

Die Brutal Death Metal-Band BRODEQUIN hat mit “Harbinger of Woe” ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist das vierte Album der US-Amerikaner aus Tennessee und das erste seit ihrem Comeback. Somit folgt das neue Album auf das 2004er-Album “Methods of Execution” nach.

“Wir hatten eine Reihe von Todesfällen in unserer Familie”, erklärt Sänger Jamie Bailey. “Mike und ich wussten, dass wir uns zurückziehen mussten, bis wir die Zeit hatten und geistig in der Lage waren, BRODEQUIN die Aufmerksamkeit zu schenken, die es verdient.”

Von der damaligen Besetzung sind noch Bassist und Sänger Jamie Bailey sowie dessen Bruder und Gitarrist Mike Bailey mit von der Partie. Ergänzt werden die beiden von Drummer Brennan Shackelford.

“Harbinger of Woe” wurde von Josh Welshman gemixt und von Brad Boatwright gemastert, während das Cover-Artwork von Jose de Brito stammt. Erscheinen wird das Album am 22. März 2024 via Season of Mist. Vorab gibt es zu “Of Pillars and Trees” einen Video-Clip.

“Dieser Song ist inspiriert von den historischen Praktiken, bei denen Bäume zum Zweck der Folter und Hinrichtung verwendet wurden”, erklärt Jamie Bailey. “Unter den unzähligen Methoden, die angewandt wurden, war ein herausragendes Beispiel die Befestigung einer Person an einer Säule oder, noch häufiger, an einem Baumstamm mit Hilfe von langen Eisennägeln.”

Mit ‘The Tide Of Death And Fractured Dreams’ wollten wir wieder energischer werden.  Wir mögen ‘Ashes’ noch immer,  aber die depressiven Momente wollen wir nicht weiter verfolgen. Die Progressive Rock-Band BIG BIG TRAIN veröffentlicht am 1. März 2024 ihr 15. Studioalbum “The Likes Of Us” via InsideOut Music. Dabei handelt es sich zugleich um die erste Platte seit dem Tod ihres ehemaligen Sängers David Longdon Ende 2021. Dessen Posten übernimmt nun Alberto Bravin.

JUDAS PRIEST haben mit “Crown Of Horns” einen weiteren neuen Song veröffentlicht. Auch dieser Track stammt vom kommenden Studioalbum “Invincible Shield”, das am 8. März 2024 erscheint.

Die Band teilte schon im Oktober 2023 “Panic Attack” als erste Single und veröffentlichte dazu ein Lyrics-Video, im Dezember folgte ein Videoclip.
