Die finnische Metalcore-Band BALANCE BREACH hat mit “Maniacs” eine neue Single mitsamt Video-Clip veröffentlicht.

“Ich denke, dass der Text und der Song eine großartige Hymne für alle ist, die einen extra Schub und Adrenalin brauchen, wenn es an der Zeit ist, aufzustehen und den inneren Wahnsinn zu entfesseln”, sagt Sänger Aleksi Paasonen.

Vor 40 Jahren trafen sich Rodney Orpheus, Paul Dillon und Andy Booth in einem Keller in Leeds, England, mit einer Sammlung von billigen gebrauchten Gitarrenpedalen, Synthesizern und Drumcomputern und schufen mit Songs wie Moscow Idaho, One Millionth Happy Customer und Nightfall eine Post-Punk-Revolution, die alternative Tanzflächen füllte und weltweit die Indie-Charts anführte.
Im Jahr 1993 veröffentlichten THE CASSANDRA COMPLEX das Album „Sex & Death“ für ein begrenztes Publikum. Jetzt, 30 Jahre später, hat die Band diesen Klassiker als „Death & Sex“ von Grund auf neu aufgenommen und wird ihn im Rahmen ihrer 40-Jahr-Feierlichkeiten erstmals weltweit veröffentlichen.

Das Album wird am 8. März 2024 auf CD, als Bandcamp-Download und bei allen Streaming-Diensten erscheinen, mit einem Cover des legendären Greg Rolfes. Gleichzeitig mit dieser Veröffentlichung wird COP International auch eine neu gemasterte Version des Vorgängeralbums von The Cassandra Complex, The Plague, herausbringen, das bei seiner ursprünglichen Veröffentlichung vier Wochen lang auf Platz 1 der deutschen Alternative Charts stand. http://cassandracomplex.co.uk/

„Death & Sex“ besteht aus den ursprünglichen Bandgründern Rodney Orpheus (Gesang, Synthesizer, Drumcomputer) und Andy Booth (Gitarre), den langjährigen Mitgliedern Chris Haskett (Henry Rollins Band, David Bowie) an der Gitarre und Mera Roberts (Faith and the Muse, Black Tape for a Blue Girl) am Cello sowie dem neuen Mitglied Brent Heinze (Probe 7) an den Keyboards.

Das Album wird zusammen mit vielen anderen Klassikern aus dem gesamten 40-jährigen Katalog von THE CASSANDRA COMPLEX auf der bevorstehenden CX40-Welttournee zu hören sein, die im März in Großbritannien beginnt und bis 2024 Konzerte in Belgien, den Niederlanden, Deutschland, Dänemark, der Tschechischen Republik, Österreich, Lateinamerika und den USA umfasst.

Rodney Orpheus explains: “When we first wrote these songs we didn’t have the tools to fully realise them the way we wanted. Now 30 years later we can finally make them sound the way they always sounded inside our heads.”

Metropolis Records announces the signing of Swedish post-punk outfit Then Comes Silence for the release of their seventh album, “Trickery”. The first single, “Ride or Die”, will be released on March 1. The full album will be released on vinyl, CD and digitally on April 5.

“Metropolis Records is thrilled to announce the return of Then Comes Silence. The new album ‘Trickery’ will be the band’s first worldwide release with us. It’s a fantastic album and we are excited to get to share it with you. It’s a refinement of the band’s signature sound, a focused distillation of everything TCS has released to date,” says Jim Smith of Metropolis Records.

The new album was recorded by Jörgen Wall (Jay-Jay Johanson, The Hellacopters) over three days at Stockholm’s Kapsylen Studio and mixed by Tom van Heesch (Rammstein, Apocalyptica, Backyard Babies). The mastering was in the hands of Svante Forsbäck / Chartmakers (Rammstein, Amaranthe, Ville Valo, The Rasmus, Apocalyptica).

Fenriz (DARKTHRONE), Apollyon (AURA NOIR, LAMENTED SOULS) und Bestial Tormentor (INFERNÖ, LAMENTED SOULS) sind zusammen COFFIN STORM – und so etwas wie ehemalige Nachbarn, denn die Musiker kommen alle aus dem Ort Kolbotn  bei Oslo.

Am 29. März 2024 veröffentlichen COFFIN STORM ihr Debütalbum “Arcana Rising”, reinhören kann man vorab in die erste Single “Over Frozen Moors”.

Fenriz erklärt, wie er zur Band kam:

“Kolbotn ist ein hügeliger Ort im Wald und liegt südlich von Oslo, Norwegen. Als Ole Jørgen, Olav und ich in den 80ern dort aufwuchsen, kamen wir ganz leicht an Metal Musik in den vielen Plattenläden in Oslo. Olav und Ole Jørgen machten in den 90ern mit LAMENTED SOULS  Doom Metal. 2020 taten sie sich wieder zusammen und sschreiben langsame Thrash/Doom/klassischem Heavy Metal-Songs, die sie schließlich aufnahmen. Es sollte ein 100%iges Kolbotn-Projekt werden, deshalb fragten sie mich, ob ich den Gesang übernehmen wollte, und nach ein paar Sessions 2021 und 2022 war COFFIN STORM geboren”.

Apollyon fügt hinzu:

“Bestial Tormentor und ich machen seit unserer Schulzeit in den 1990er mit der Doom-Metal-Band LAMENTED SOULS Musik. Aber da die meisten Mitglieder mit anderen Bands beschäftigt waren, lösten sich sich LAMENTED SOULS auf, unsere letzte Probe war so um 2007 rum. Nachdem ich aufgehört hatte, mit AURA NOIR live zu spielen, beschlossen wir, uns wöchentlich zu treffen und gemeinsam Gitarre zu spielen.Es sollte keine LAMENTED SOULS-Reunion werden und wir hatten auch keine ernsthaften Pläne. Als die ersten Songs entstanden, wechselte ich zum Schlagzeug, und wir machten Aufnahmen, die Bestial Tormentor Fenriz vorspielten, der offenbar einverstanden war! Ich hätte es nie gewagt, ihn zu bitten, den Gesang zu übernehmen! Ich hatte überlegt, selbst zu singen, aber eigentlich war er unsere erste Wahl.”

Trotz kleinerer Line-up-Querelen und damit verbundener Durststrecke verlor zumindest Mastermind Obsidian nie das Ziel aus den Augen. Länger als erwartet dauerte es zwar, den Nachfolger von „Epistemology“ (2015) unters Volk zu bringen, doch an Elan eingebüßt haben KEEP OF KALESSIN in dieser Zeit dank des neuen Drummers Nechtan nicht. Energische Blasts, und ausladender Doublebass-Einsatz schenkt „Katharsis“ über weite Strecken einen unbändigen Zug nach vorne, was den episch angelegten Kompositionen gut zu Gesicht steht.

Zugleich zementieren die Norweger damit ihre Absicht, den Stil der vergangenen Veröffentlichungen weiterzuführen: Epischer Extreme Metal steht auf den Fahnen geschrieben und erweitert das schwarzmetallische Fundament der Vergangenheit vermehrt durch orchestralen Bombast, Chöre und Klargesang. Dass sich KEEP OF KALESSIN dabei oft nahe an der Reizüberflutung bewegen, gehört zum Konzept: Das Soundgewand ist mächtig und dicht, setzt aber aufgrund einprägsamer Hooks wie im Titeltrack oder mittels durchblitzender Synthesizer regelmäßig Ankerpunkte, welche uns die Orientierung erleichtern.

Trotz Produktion am Anschlag ist “Katharsis” ein erstaunlich zugängliches Album
Das macht „Katharsis“ letztlich zu einem überraschend zugänglichen Werk, auch weil das Trio in „The Omni“ zwar fast durchgehend am Anschlag agiert, dem Black-Metal-Korsett aber bombastische Symphonic-Parts und im Refrain einen gregorianischen Choral zur Seite stellt. Gitarrist und Frontmann Obsidian ist dabei selbst wandelbar genug, um den klassischen Screams eine schöne Vielfalt an Gesangsstilen zur Seite zu stellen. Der ordentliche Klargesang ist dabei inmitten der opulenten Produktion kompetent eingebettet und wird hier und da durch teils tiefe wie unheilschwangere, teils melodramatische Stimmfarben ergänzt („War Of The Wyrm“).

Wohlwissend, dass ein komplettes Album in diesem Stil irgendwann zu viel des Guten sein könnte, streuen KEEP OF KALESSIN in der zweiten Hälfte vermehrt Atempausen: Das zehnminütige „The Obsidian Expanse“ überrascht mit einem atmosphärischen Synth-Part, nachdem sich das balladeske „Journey’s End“ an den leisen Tönen geübt hatte. Dass die Band zwischendurch die Grenze zum Kitsch doch immer wieder übertritt, macht immerhin das Finale wieder gut: „Throne Of Execration“ bündelt mit seinem unbändigen Drive wieder alle Stärken der aktuellen Inkarnation KEEP OF KALESSINs. Eine Rückbesinnung auf frühere Zeiten scheint spätestens hier endgültig vom Tisch. Die Drummer-Suche und anderweitige Faktoren mögen die Nordeuropäer in den Jahren zuvor unweigerlich ausgebremst haben, die Vision Obsidians blieb aber bis heute klar und deutlich: Zurückblicken kommt für den Bandgründer weiterhin nicht in Frage.

Die Hard Rock / Power Metal-Band FIREWIND hat mit “Stand United” ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist das zehnte Album der Griechen und wird am 1. März 2024 via AFM Records erscheinen. Vorab gibt es nach den Video-Clips zu “Destiny is Calling“, “Salvation Day“, “Come Undone” und “Fallen Angel” nun auch ein Lyric-Video zu “Chains” bei YouTube.

“Ich würde ‘Stand United’ nicht gerade als klassisches Konzeptalbum bezeichnen, aber der Albumtitel deutet an, worum es uns thematisch geht”, erklärt Bandgründer Gus G. “Diese Welt scheint immer mehr aus dem Gleichgewicht zu geraten, mit den Umweltkatastrophen, den Pandemien, den Kriegen, die derzeit überall auf dem Globus wüten. In solchen Zeiten ist es wichtiger denn je, dass die Menschheit zusammenhält, anstatt sich gegenseitig zu bekämpfen.”

“Stand United” wurde von Dennis Ward produziert und mit einem Cover-Artwork von COSTIN CHIOREANU ausgestattet.

Nach acht Jahren kommen AC/DC wieder auf Europatour – in Deutschland geben die Australien insgesamt neun Konzerte. Angekündigt sind je zwei Shows in Gelsenkirchen und München, außerdem gibt es Auftritte in Dresden, Stuttgart, Nürnberg, Hannover und am Hockenheimring.

Normalerweise verliert man ja als Szene-Band seine Credibility, wenn man in einer Casting-Show oder beim Grand Prix auftritt. Der VERTILIZAR-Sänger ist 2021 nämlich bei „The Voice Of Germany“ mit einer „This Is The Life“-Interpretation von Amy MacDonald aufgetreten, was zwar für einige Aufmerksamkeit gesorgt hat, aber letztendlich nicht wirklich funktioniert hat. Zum Glück kommen die Österreicher jetzt aber mit ihrem Debüt-Album um die Ecke, welches irgendwo zwischen Alternativ Metal Rock und Metal Core angesiedelt ist und wirklich keine arg kalkulierte Coverversion braucht. Kraft- und gefühlvoll zugleich sind die insgesamt 11 neuen Songs auf „Leave It All Behind“, die allesamt locker aus dem Stand die gängigen Standards des sogenannten New Metal erfüllen. Allen voran natürlich das Wechselspiel zwischen harten und soften Gesang über den typisch schreddernden Gitarrenriffs, wobei VERTILIZAR ein ausgeprägtes Gespür für epische Melodien haben. „Leave It All Behind“ ist ein starkes Debüt, dass sich qualitativ nicht in der großen Schar der Mitbewerber im Genre verstecken braucht, aber eben auch gefunden werden will. Deshalb diese Zeilen hier und hört mal über die üblichen Plattformen rein – es lohnt sich! (Marco Fiebag)

Die Power Progressive Metal Band IVORY TOWER veröffentlicht ihr sechstes Studioalbum: “Heavy Rain” erscheint am 29. März 2024 via Massacre Records.

Mit dem Song “60 Seconds”  stellt die Kieler Band nun den ersten der neuen Songs vor. IVORY TOWER-Sänger Francis Soto verrät über “60 Seconds”:

„Es geht darum, wie viel man in ziemlich kurzer Zeit im Leben erreichen kann. Man muss sich einfach nur die Zeit nehmen, es sich vornehmen und alles nimmt seinen Lauf. Das Leben verbirgt sich in den Details und es zählt nicht immer das große Ganze.“

Francis Soto kam 2021 als neuer Sänger zu IVORY TOWER, das neue Album wurde von Jens Bogren und Alexander Backlund gemixt, das Mastering kommt von Tony Lindgren.

Meet Slower Avenue, the one and only darkwave synthpop, and post-punk duo hailing from the heart of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Comprised of the international duo of Luis Bonet, with his rich heritage from Spain and the UK, and Thomas Galvez, who brings a slice of California to the mix, Slower Avenue stands out in Vietnam’s music scene. Initially started by Luis as a solo endeavor during the pandemic, the project evolved as he sought to depart from his previous musical style in favor of something more cutting-edge and introspective.

As the lockdowns were winding down in Vietnam in early 2022, Galvez, an experienced musician and passionate music lover, decided to start an arts and entertainment entity called Other Voices VN in order to promote the full gamut of all flavors of post-punk, which previously had little exposure in Vietnam. The name “Other Voices” comes from The Cure song but also represents the idea that these other genres need to be heard and highlighted. Galvez booked Slower Avenue at an Other Voices VN event in August 2022. The two hit it off and joined forces in early 2023.

The sound of Slower Avenue initially kept many of the synthpop sensibilities, but started incorporating influence from The Smiths, The Cure, Cocteau Twins and others. Overall, Slower Avenue brings a beautiful, melancholic sound that sparkles with texture and warms the soul, providing both a comfortable nostalgia and vibrant desire for those deeply pleasurable and pensive moments in life. Bonet, handling vocals, guitar, and synth, brings a fusion of Spanish zest and British cool to their sound, while Galvez lays down the groove on his Bass VI and guitar, injecting a dose of laid-back California vibes. We also hear shades of Spandau Ballet and Harsh Symmetry.

Slower Avenue recently released the Glance EP. The album opens with the existential Unequivocal, a song about the fear of death itself, but also accepting the natural law of life and living fully.

“Glance is about the consequences of love or infatuation,” says Bonet. “The risks we take not only in doing so but also in how a simple eye-to-eye interaction can bring about so many feelings, good and bad. How we act and what we decide upon meeting someone ultimately determines many aspects of what the future of the relationship will be. But, sometimes the fantasy about this future was better than the reality if the relationship actually happened.”

“Since I started Other Voices VN and began creating and joining events as a DJ, different stories started to swirl around in my head based on the experiences at the events,” says Galvez. “One of these swirling stories was envisioned as a movie, but without time, money, resources, personnel, and the general capacity to make a movie, I knew this story would likely never see the light of day. When Luis and I decided on the songs for the EP, we felt Glance would be a good single. When I saw the full lyrics for Glance for the first time, I was pleasantly shocked how similar the song’s themes fit with this “movie” that was swirling in my head. I told Luis, ‘we will do a video and this is what the story will be: a pared down version of this movie in my head that references elements of love, fantasy, introspection, and alternative realities for the three main characters.’ He agreed, and I set forth to make the story fit… I was very happy to get my friend, Jez Fei, a local fashionista in Saigon, to co-star in the video with us. We got the wonderful local craft beverage company, MixTape Drinks, to support the video shoot with its owner, Chad Mitchell, making an appearance in the video. We were also elated to get many of our fans to join the video shoot!”

Dark Shades discusses borderline personality, and the internal battle with one’s own psyche – leading to the emergence of that darker side of our personalities. Take Me Away is about the desire to escape the chaos of the world we live in, to seek solace and liberation through the act of running away – a universal theme.

To celebrate the Lunar New Year, Slower Avenue also has released a live concert video, In the Dark Light of the City.

“Since we were going to do a special EP and music video show at a relatively new venue in the heart of Saigon that has a “dark” yet romantic vibe, we thought it would be great to capture the show with the help of a professional filmmaker,” says Galvez. “We heard great things about the live music performance video being done by local Spanish filmmaker, Mateu Lambda (Lambda TV), so we enlisted him and his crew to capture our performance. We also wanted to capture the performances of these songs we’ve been playing in this early stage of the band. The show, the energy and love from the crowd, and the night in general was amazing. This live video captures it wonderfully.”

Die Alternative Rock / Post-Hardcore-Band EL MOONO hat mit “Haunting” einen weiteren Video-Clip von ihrem kommenden Album “The Waking Sun” veröffentlicht. Wenige Wochen zuvor ist der Video-Clip zu “The Charm” erschienen.

“Der Song handelt von häuslicher Gewalt in einem zerrütteten Haushalt und bezeichnet den Täter als hypnotische Schlange”, erklärt die Band.

Es ist das erste Album der Briten, die 2022 mit der EP “Temple Corrupted” debütierten, und wird am 10. Mai 2024 via Lockjaw Records erscheinen.

Nach dem Video-Clip zu “Chains” – ein Track, der sich um emotional missbrauchende Beziehungen dreht – hat die Band mit dem Video zu “The First Man On Mars” zuvor auch eine weitere Single veröffentlicht.

“Das moderne Leben gleicht immer mehr einer Dystopie – die Reichen werden immer reicher, die Armen werden immer ärmer, und Milliardäre planen ihre Flucht zum Mars. “The First Man On Mars” ist ein Kommentar zum milliardenschweren Wettlauf ins All und wie wir zulassen, dass diese Milliarden in ein Eitelkeitsprojekt investiert werden, anstatt in Probleme, die uns alle auf der Erde betreffen. Manchmal haben wir das Gefühl, in der Truman Show festzusitzen, ohne unserem vorbestimmten Schicksal zu entkommen”, erklärt die Band.
