Die Avantgarde Jazz-Band SONS OF RA hat nach dem Video zu “Tropic Of Cancer III” mit “Tropic Of Cancer I” den Opener ihrer kommenden EP “Tropic Of Cancer” als Video-Clip veröffentlicht. Es ist nach “Cognitive” (2020) die zweite EP des US-amerikanischen Trios aus Chicago, welches aus Gitarrist, Bassist und Synthesizer Erik Oldman, Bassist, Saxophonist und Synthesizer Keith Wakefield sowie Drummer Michael Rataj besteht.

“Tropic Of Cancer” wurde von Spenser Morris in den Palisade Studios produziert und wird am 19. April 2024 erscheinen.

Hailing from Belgium, ULTRA SUNN is slicing through the electronic underground music milieu with their brooding beats and icy synth motifs. They’ve rapidly captured the gaze of the international scene with their bold foray into the realms of unabashed dance music that transcends time and generations. Marrying earnest beats with tuneful harmonies and topped with hooks that are nothing short of infectious, they’ve mastered the art of concocting anthems that beckon the crowd to sing along, ensuring that their sound is a staple on DJ turntables and streaming playlists.

ULTRA SUNN consists of Gaelle Souflet and Sam Huge. The duo brings a modern edge to the classic sound of their home country’s New Beat boom of the late 1980s, commonly referred to as “The Sound of Belgium.” New Beat music is defined by its hypnotic slow rhythms and the extensive use of synthesizers and samples, with lore suggesting it may have accidentally been born from playing an A Split-Second 45 at the wrong speed. This genre melds acid house, EBM (Electronic Body Music), and techno elements.

“It’s probably the first love song we have written,” says the band. “You & Me is one of our most intimate tracks. It’s a song that talks about our relationship and what we love to experience together. The verses echo our travels and places that are important to us in which we like to take refuge. The chorus sounds like something we say to each other, as if in all our experiences and favorite places, we were looking for and finding each other.”

The single’s release is complemented by the third installment in Ultra Sunn’s live video series, which highlights the band’s innovative use of visuals and lighting. This creative approach amplifies the track’s atmospheric essence, adding another layer of depth to their already immersive sound. Both the song and the video are gorgeous, and this compelling darkwave composition looks easy with their commanding performance.

Across three EPs—Night Is Mine, Body Electric, Kill Your Idols—ULTRA SUNN has evolved, inspired not only by predecessors in the Belgian electronic music scene but also by art, fashion, and a wide array of sounds. “Our inspirations can range from 17th-century Baroque music to RuPaul,” they state.

“The famous Sound of Belgium is indeed one of our major inspirations, we grew up with this music and sounds and we have the pleasure of having met most of the acts in this scene,” they continue. “Some are true mentors and we cherish the advice they gave us. We are proud to be considered the heirs of this musical tradition while having the desire to add our current and modern touch to the sounds and themes.”

The duo has collaborated with the likes of Kontravoid, Kris Baha, and Curses.

ULTRA SUNN’s full-length debut album, “US,” is scheduled to be released on April 19, 2024.

Mit “One With Dawn” wird in einigen Wochen das neue Album der Melodic Death Metal-Band FRACTAL GATES erscheinen. Es ist das vierte Album der Franzosen aus Paris.

“One With Dawn” wurde von Juho Raïhä bei Soundspiral Audio gemixt und von Tony Lindgren in den Fascination Street Studios gemastert. Das Cover-Artwork stammt von Sänger Sébastien Pierre. Release-Termin ist der 14. April 2024. Vorab gibt es mit “Seamless Days” ein Lyric-Video.

Die Post Punk Band THEN COMES SILENCE stellt mit einem Video zu “Like A Hammer” einen weiteren Song ihres kommenden Albums “Trickery” vor. Als erste Single teilte die Band “Ride Of Die” als Video und Stream im Netz.

“Trickery” erscheint am 5. April 2024 via Metropolis Records.

Das Album handelt von Freundschaft und dem Gefühl, zu einer Gruppe  zu gehören, die Band will mit dem Album das Gemeinschaftsgefühl der Goth-Szene beschwören:

INSECT ARK, das sind Dana Schechter (SWANS) und Tim Wyskida (KHANATE), veröffentlichen am 7. Juni 2024 das Album “Raw Blood Singing”.

Die Arbeiten an dem Album überzeugten Dana Schechter, wieder etwas zu tun, das sie lange nicht getan hatte:

“Evolution anzunehmen und furchtlos gegenüber neuem zu sein, das macht INSECT ARK aus. Dieses Album ist ein Erweckungserlebnis fü rmich. In einer inspirienden Atmosphäre habe ich nach zehn Jahren wieder versucht zu singen. Ermutigt durch Tim, unseren Manager, und andere Gelegenheiten wie z.B. bei der Aufnahme der Vocals für  ‘The Beggar’ von SWANS. Zu meiner Überraschung fühlte es sich großartig an, wieder zu singen. Ich fühlte mich, als käme ich nach dem Winterschlaf aus einer tiefen Höhle gekrochen und blinzelte unbeholfen in das helle und ungemütliche Licht des Frühlings.”

Der Mix kommt von Colin Marston, das Mastering von James Plotkin . Als Gastmusiker sind Colin Marston and Ville Leppilahti (ORANSSI PAZUZU) zu hören. Chris Friel hat zusammen mit Dana Schechter Cover und Layout entworfen.

Live stellen INSECT ARK das neue Album bei einer Releaseshow im Berliner Club Neue Zukunft am 7. Juni 2024 vor.

Momentan ist bei dir ja bereits dein Roman “Highway to Hel” aktuell – wie geht die Promotion dafür voran? 

Es gibt die ersten schönen Reviews, weitere folgen; ganz wichtig für die Buchpromo sind auch Lesungen, aber darauf kommen wir ja später noch zu sprechen.

Die Geschichte steht im Vordergrund
“Highway to Hel” richtet sich an ein breites Publikum, “Die Festung” war eine limitierte Kleinstveröffentlichung. Weisst du schon zu Beginn des Schreibprozesses, welche Art von Buch es wird? Gehst du dann mit anderen Gedanken an die Schreibarbeit?

Meistens ist es so: Die Geschichte steht im Vordergrund; mir kommt eine Idee und diese Idee bringt ihre Form mit. So war es bei allen Büchern und Texten bisher, von denen viele ja sehr düster, verträumt, vielleicht etwas entrückt sind.

“Skogtatt”, “Wölfe vor der Stadt”, “Die Festung”, alle diese Texte sind sehr dicht, sehr auf eine Stimmung ausgerichtet, vielleicht sehr ernst, wenn man so will.

Auch sprachlich sind die älteren Texte sehr konzentriert, teilweise harsch und reduziert, mit bewussten Wiederholungen, die etwas Zwingendes, Monolithisches haben – “Skogtatt” und “Die Festung” sind ja beide stark von Black Metal inspiriert und das spiegeln die Texte und die Sprache darin auch wider.

“Highway to Hel” ist leichtherzig
„Highway to Hel“ ist dagegen ein leichtherziger, lustiger Text, bei dem es mir um die Freude am Erzählen ging, um den Spaß, den es beim Lesen macht, wenn die Figuren von einem skurrilen Abenteuer ins nächste stolpern. Das hat natürlich auch das Schreiben beeinflusst, es war mehr ein lustvolles Fabulieren, es hat mich weniger in die Schatten geführt als die anderen Texte; gleichwohl es bei „Highway to Hel“ ja auch um Tod, Sterben und die Unterwelt geht…aber eben auf amüsante Art! 

 “Die Festung” ist ja – in gewisser Art und Weise – das Resultat der Zusammenarbeit mit der Black Metal-Band BELTEZ. Würdest du einen solchen Schreibauftrag wieder annehmen oder war das für dich eine einmalige Geschichte?

Ich würde ähnliche Projekte immer wieder machen. Gerade der Austausch mit anderen Künstlern kann ein Kunstwerk besonders machen, besonders kreativ, besonders einzigartig. Wer Interesse an einem gemeinsamen Projekt hat, egal ob Musiker, visuell arbeitender Künstler oder Autor, kann sich gerne bei mir melden.

Märchen sind der Goldstandard
Vieles an “Die Festung” wirkt parabel- oder märchenhaft. Sind Märchen im Jahr 2024 noch zeitgemäss? 

Ich denke, Märchen haben eine überzeitliche Botschaft, die nicht an einen bestimmten Augenblick oder eine historische Epoche gebunden ist. Sie sind unzeitgemäß insofern, als dass sie nicht besonders modern sind, sie sind im Moment überhaupt nicht „in“.

Sie sind trotzdem sehr zeitgemäß, indem sie von Werten handeln, die uns prägen, und indem sie uns eine Kausalität von Handlungen und Ergebnis präsentieren, die viele von uns für grundlegend halten. Etwa: Wer fleißig ist, wird belohnt; wer Böses tut, wird bestraft; wer mutig in die Welt hinauszieht, wächst über sich hinaus. 

Natürlich werden diese Erwartungen oft enttäuscht, aber ich glaube doch, dass sie wichtig für unser Miteinander sind, als Goldstandard, nach dem wir irgendwie alle streben.

Außerdem verbinden Märchen uns miteinander. Wer mit den gleichen Geschichten aufwächst wie seine Mitmenschen, der kann auf Bilder, Elemente, Motive zurückgreifen, die auch andere gleich erkennen. Und es gibt wenig, das Menschen so sehr lieben, wie die Wiederholung einer alten Geschichte in einem neuen Gewand.

Momo und Minas Tirith als Inspiration
Manchmal erinnerte mich “Die Festung” auch an das düstere “Mio, mein Mio” von Astrid Lindgren. Haben dich Geschichten aus deiner Kindheit inspiriert? Wenn ja, welche?

Für “Die Festung” kann ich keine Geschichten aus meiner Kindheit nennen, an die ich beim Schreiben bewusst gedacht habe. Aber vielleicht sind die Gezeichneten, die die Stadt unterhalb der Festung heimsuchen, die erwachsene Version der Grauen Herren aus “Momo”, die in ihrer Strenge und Gleichförmigkeit das Leben ersticken.

Eher aus meiner Jugend stammt der Einfluss, den “Der Herr der Ringe” auf “Die Festung” hatte – für mich war Minas Tirith aus der Peter Jackson-Verfilmung eine große Inspiration für die sterbende Stadt in meiner eigenen Geschichte. Diese verwehte Größe, dieses Wissen um das eigene Absterben, um das Versinken in den Nebeln der Zeit, das durch die Stadt weht, bevor der Weiße Baum wieder blüht, hat mir damals im Kino Schauer über den Rücken gejagt.

Wahre Freundschaft ohne Neid
Was macht für dich eine wahre Freundschaft aus?

Sich so nehmen, wie man ist; dem anderen wohlwollen, seine Erfolge nicht neiden, sondern sie feiern. Verlässlich sein, ehrlich sein, sich unangenehme Dinge sagen, füreinander das Korrektiv sein, dass man manchmal braucht, um in dieser merkwürdigen Welt nicht lauter Unsinn zu veranstalten.

Bis jetzt hast du dich ja vor allem Erzählungen beziehungsweise Romanen gewidmet. Denkst du auch über Ausflüge in Richtung Drama / Drehbuch nach? 

Ja, Drehbücher zu schreiben reizt mich sehr!

Wenn man “Die Festung” verfilmen würde, wer wäre deine Wunschbesetzung für “den Jüngling” und wer müsste sonst noch dabei sein? 

Am besten wäre jemand mit viel jugendlicher Energie, vielleicht jemand wie Heath Ledger, bevor er vom Joker besessen wurde. Der “Freund” steht mir nicht so klar vor Augen, aber das müsste jemand sein, der eher verhuscht und schicksalsergeben wirkt. 

Ein Schmöker, der Spass macht
Interessant. Aktuell beschäftigst du dich primär mit “Highway to Hel”. Dieser Roman ist ja wesentlich länger als deine bisherigen Bücher. Wusstest du schon bei Schreibbeginn, dass die Geschichte um Max ein größeres Projekt würde? Wenn nicht zu Beginn, wann zeichnete sich das für dich ab? 

Als mir die Idee zu “Highway to Hel” kam, war gleich klar, dass dieses Buch anders wird als meine früheren Bücher, nämlich eher ein klassischer Roman, ein Schmöker, den man genüsslich runterlesen kann. Auch dass die Geschichte länger wird, war ziemlich schnell klar.

Ich wollte ja so vieles unterbringen, was mir selbst Spaß macht: Mein Interesse an jenseitigen Themen wie Zauberei, Geisterbeschwörungen und solchen Dingen. Meine Begeisterung für Nordische Mythologie, meine Liebe zu Island…all das wollte ich in der Geschichte drin haben, die dazu noch an vier größeren Schauplätze spielt. Es hat gut geklappt und das Schreiben war ein Riesenspaß! Ich habe seitdem auch große Lust, sowas noch mal zu machen, vielleicht auch als Serie.

Zuhörer, die sich fallen lassen
Was darf für dich bei einer deiner Lesungen nicht fehlen und warum? 

Ein Publikum, das sich auf den Text einlässt – bei Lesungen kann man oft spüren, wenn sich die Zuhörer wirklich in die Geschichte fallen lassen, das ist immer wunderschön.

Im Literatursalon am 23. März
Wo bist du in nächster Zeit an Lesungen zu hören und zu sehen?

Es ist einiges geplant: Zum Beispiel werde ich auf der Buchmesse in Leipzig lesen, beim Literatursalon meines Verlags, der Edition Outbird, am 23. März 2024. Außerdem lese ich natürlich in Köln! Am 05. April gibt es ein besonderes Event im Literaturhaus, zusammen mit Ása Ástardóttir. Wir veranstalten eine Literatur meets Comedy-Show und werden der Frage nachgehen, ob Island wirklich das Tor zu Hölle ist, wie manche behaupten…

The Athens/Greece-based dark synth duo Kalte Nacht reveals a first single, “The Last Breath”, off their new album “U R G E” to be be released in late Spring 2024 on Cold Transmission Music. The single comes accompanied by a video. “U R G E” comes four years after their self-titled debut album.

The accompanying video for “The Last Breath” is set in a not-so-distant dystopian future, where Kalte Nacht act as climate warriors, representing the few remaining human beings left alive. The music video’s backdrop is a city ravaged by continuous natural disasters, where a digital high surveillance authoritarian regime has taken control.

Kalte Nacht started as a solo project back in 2017 from Nikos K. and very soon shaped into a duο with Myrto Stylou on vocals.

Los Angeles rock queen Kate Clover sets the world ablaze with her latest offering, the explosive new single Here Comes The Love Bomb.

“Los Angeles, where dreams are born or made to die,” says Clover. “The beginning of a story or tragic end, often you don’t get to make the choice. For better or worse, my hometown. As a lifelong Angeleno, the desire to flee has run deep and yet I always returned. Too proud to leave this polarizing city of dreams. During the Spring of 2020 when the town cleared out and the smog lifted, dystopia emerged. Reality more shocking than fiction, LA became the backdrop to a neon-noir nightmare. Its vacancy created a void so great, one could see their reflection all too clearly, even if the mirror was cracked. It became home to my Apocalypse Dream.”

Clover, a burgeoning force within the punk underground scene, has rapidly carved out a niche for herself as a dynamo on stage. Here Comes The Love Bomb, the second release from her anticipated album The Apocalypse Dream (set to drop on April 5th, 2024), echoes the spirit of The Ramones and The Buzzcocks. This single delves into the tumultuous whirlwind of toxic love and its ensnaring cycles, a personal struggle that Clover has navigated through her own emotional turmoil.

“Through the clouds of doubt, the naysayers set aim,” she says. “Weary and dazed, the intoxicating fumes of delusion will see you through. Utopia exists in your mind’s eye, and you seem a fool. If you can stand the fight, it’s yours for the taking. For even if you lose, dreams go on…”

The lyrics describe a tumultuous relationship, likening emotional upheaval to a countdown of conflict and inevitable confrontation. The imagery of a ‘love bomb’ suggests an intense, possibly destructive, but irresistibly compelling force within a partnership. Themes of denial, confusion, and the quest for reason amid chaos are prevalent, with a recurring motif of impending emotional explosion, hinting at both the excitement and danger inherent in passionate connections.“Being love bombed is like inhaling napalm from a bouquet of flowers. You don’t realize it’s happening until you’re completely intoxicated. I like exploring this aspect of love and how destructive it can be. Often, I can be my own worst enemy and not realize I’m the captor. Here Comes The Love Bomb is a reflection of this past behavior, similar to taking a pin out of a grenade and not running for cover.”

The video, directed by Sam Macon, is a raucous performance film that intercuts with a typical Tinseltown tome – nice cameo of Kenneth Anger’s Hollywood Babylon! Who’s on the phone? Oh, just some gentleman hollar ready to lob some bob-bombs like a rat he is. Sigh. Don’t fall for those Trader Joe’s carnations, Kate!

It’s a pastime of mine to play with fire.
Melbourne solo act Aristo G stands out with unique lyrical flair, thunderous vocal style, and eclectic influences from disco to post-punk. Aristo G is most aptly characterized by his predictable unpredictability and chameleonic sound palette. The release of the Overdrive EP marks a significant milestone for the artist: this mini album, steeped in gothic alternative pop, showcases Aristo’s deep reflections on the human condition, life, and love, all brought to life through his straightforward vocal delivery and synth and guitar riffs. This latest venture runs alongside his dynamic collection of dance-oriented tracks.

Overdrive takes a sharp left turn off the well-beaten dancefloor path, venturing into the wilds of life’s big questions with the kind of zest usually reserved for late-night philosophical debates; dance music to ponder the meaning of existence, all while shimmying in your skinny jeans.

Aristo G marries the brooding depth of gothic themes with the catchiness of pop with guitar and synth riffs snappier than a crocodile with a toothache. So, if you’re ready for a melodious journey through love, life, and everything in between, with a side of existential musing, Aristo G’s ‘Overdrive’ might just be the wild, genre-bending ride you didn’t know you needed. “It’s a new age combination of Depeche Mode and Nine Inch Nails,” quips the artist.

The title song Overdrive starts with an intriguing mix, where passionate Morrissey-inspired crooning converges with rapid-fire laser effects. The song explores the deep connection between two individuals, their closeness and mutual admiration unites them in an idyllic state. The concept of ‘overdrive’ is a recurring theme, representing an intense flood of emotions and sensations, with the power of their love pushing the boundaries of their reality. The song is rich with symbolic imagery such as arrows and halos, elevating the lovers’ bond to a nearly divine level.

Your Life Is Now, diving more into an industrial-tinged Depeche Mode style, expresses a struggle with despair and the search for meaning, juxtaposing prayers to an indifferent deity with personal introspection.  Amidst metaphors of hiding flaws and seeking purpose, the song underscores the importance of living in the moment and the illusion of a predetermined path.

This is followed by Love Games, which sets the scene for a tumultuous relationship marked by an irresistible yet destructive attraction; when one is drawn to a partner whose presence is a mix of enchantment and danger. Despite recognizing the harm and the darkness this love brings, the pull towards this ‘wicked love’ is overwhelming, leading to a cycle of desire and despair.

Finally, the blistering Pantomime expresses frustration with the deceptive and manipulative nature of society, likening life to a dystopian Brave New World where one must play ‘The Savage’ to survive. The singer is tired of the ‘wicked games’ played by a god-like figure, and desires happiness in a world that seems shallow and vain. Despite striving for indifference, there’s a longing for change, a wish for the destructiveness of one’s bitterness to be acknowledged and confronted. Amidst this struggle, there’s a warning against speaking out or challenging the status quo, as it could lead to being devoured by the very system one critiques.

The vasum snail is a remarkable predator in the marine ecosystem, known for its tactical hunting prowess. Dwelling in tropical and subtropical waters, it utilizes its well-developed radula, a tooth-like structure, to capture and consume prey, primarily consisting of other mollusks and small marine organisms. Its predatory behavior is integral to maintaining the ecological balance, controlling populations of its prey species and contributing to the marine food web.

This tiny creature inspired the moniker for Detroit’s VAZUM, comprised of Zach Pliska and Emily Sturm. With a plethora of albums and music videos under their belt, all produced from their own Light Echo Studio, VAZUM has garnered a loyal following with their distinctive sound and uncompromising aesthetic, which they call “deathgaze.”

Breach is the second single from VAZUM’s forthcoming album, Western Violence. The fast-paced rock song portrays a dystopian reality where individuals face erasure and subjugation by an oppressive regime driven by automation and artificial intelligence. Emotions and humanity are deemed obsolete, with technology tightening its grip through manipulation, mind control, and the imposition of alternate realities. Amidst this bleak landscape, an inner force resists control, but the overarching narrative is one of systematic cleansing, indefinite imprisonment, and rampant hostility, painting a picture of an inescapable conflict between the organic and the mechanized.

The colorful video captures the band against a backdrop of eerie projections, including mysterious shadow figures and unsettling dark web imagery. Frightening headlines and apocalyptic visions flash across the screen, creating an atmosphere of unease and dystopia. This visual presentation complements the band’s thematic undertones, skillfully immersing the viewer in a world of digital and existential dread.

Es treten nur die 2003 als EBM/Industrial Projekt gestarteten COMBICHRIST auf, bei denen im Laufe der Zeit Gitarren und Schlagzeug immer mehr an Bedeutung gewannen und der Sound härter und metallischer wurde.

Hinter dem seltsam anmutenden Namen COMBICHRIST verbirgt sich das derzeit populärste Industrial – Core Projekt des norwegischen Ausnahmemusikers, Andy LaPlegua, welches insbesondere für seine intensive Live Performance von seinen zahlreichen Fans rund um den Erdball geschätzt wird. Bei Combichrist verschmilzt die einzigartige Kombination aus harten Gitarrenriffs und tanzbaren elektronischen Beats zu einem süchtig machenden höllischen Gesamtkunstwerk.

Content: “Zeitgeist” is a hard and merciless production which will rapidly evoke the influence of Rammstein. The songs are driven by furious guitar parts and refined by elevating electronic arrangements. The vocals are harsh and sung in German.

+ + + : If we forget for a moment any possible sound connection with Rammstein I would dare to say it’s one of the most convincing productions in its genre. There’s a true balance between guitar and electronics resulting in a few outstanding songs.

– – – : The main point that could hurt is that there’s only one Rammstein and this band is big and unique… but who cares!?

Conclusion: Alluring and powerful Industrial-Metal music.

Best songs: “Schockmaschine”, “Para Bellum”, “Hass Ihn”.

Mythisch und archaisch muten LVME an, wie der hungrige Lindwurm auf dem Cover von „Of Sinful Nature“ – oder sind sie eher die janusköpfige Gestalt mit blutroter Robe? LVME lassen Raum für Spekulation und während ihre Musik für sie spricht. Sie zelebrieren Black Metal, einerseits zeitlos und doch irgendwie am Puls der Genres und sind dabei beneidenswert geschmackssicher. „Of Sinful Nature“ braucht keine Maskerade, kein Image und keine großen Referenzen – außer der des Labels. Ins Kader von NORMA EVANGELIUM DIABOLI aufgenommen zu werden ist Ritterschlag genug.

Die anonyme Band destilliert aus dem Genre ihre eigene Essenz heraus: Ein wenig isländisch wie MISþYRMING, etwas französisch wie AOSOTH und natürlich DEATHSPELL OMEGA, etwas polnischer Klang wie bei MÄ�NBRYNE und auch die Impulsivität des Nidrosian Black Metal findet sich in den fünf Songs von „Of Sinful Nature“ wieder. Zugegeben, das ist nicht das Originellste, was das Genre bietet, aber es ist das vielleicht mitreißendste, was es in diesem Bereich seit „Með hamri“ zu hören gab. Nicht nur das Songwriting ist erstklassig, auch die Produktion hat maßgeblichen Anteil daran, wie gut LVMEs Zweitwerk geworden ist.

LVME destillieren aus den verschiedenen Strömungen des Genres ihre eigene Essenz heraus: „Of Sinful Nature“ klingt gleichermaßen durchdacht wie impulsiv.
LVME wollen mit Haut und Haar entdeckt werden. Zwar entfaltet „Of Sinful Nature“ eine Sogwirkung, auch wenn es nebenbei läuft, die fünf mitunter komplexen Songs werden erst beim intensiven Hören richtig mitreißend. „The Venomous Fire“ explodiert gleich zu Beginn und vergisst nicht, sich in verschiedene Richtungen zu entwickeln, bevor es sich zu einem epischen Finale steigert. „Strix Rêverie“ verbindet eine pulsierende Basslinie mit dissonantesten Riffs und bitteren Leadgitarren und ist mit knapp sechs Minuten der kompakteste, aber auch hässlichste Song auf „Of Sinful Nature“. „Into Ashen Stone“ zeigt LVME in der ersten Hälfte noch vergleichsweise ruhig und entwickelt sich in Punkto Geschwindigkeit und Harmonien – atemberaubend.

„Without Light Nor Guide“ hat im Intro neben der Dissonanz genug Raum, um der Basslinie den Lead zu überlassen und spielt gekonnt mit zugänglichen Harmonien und Geschwindigkeitsvariationen. Hier und in „Obenaus und nirgends an!“ wird deutlich, dass LVME etwas beherrschen, dass in der Szene meistens zu kurz kommt: die Dynamik. Zwischen Raserei und Heaviness gibt es einige epische Momente, es herrscht eine brodelnde, fühlbare Spannung und eine beeindruckende Atmosphäre, selbst wenn die Band gerade am Anschlag blastet. „Of Sinful Nature“ strahlt mit seinen dissonanten Riffs, dem intensiven Drumming und den boshaften Vocals eine starke Faszination aus und nimmt sich viel Zeit: Vier der fünf Songs dauern um die zehn Minuten und nutzen ihre Länge. Das wird durch die Produktion beeindruckend begleitet: Das Schlagzeug klingt wunderbar analog und hat viel Raum. In diesem Genre kann dieses Instrument nicht besser und authentischer klingen.

„Of Sinful Nature“ beherrscht die gesamte Klaviatur des Genres: LVME sind sowohl kompositorisch als auch in Sachen Performance und Produktion hochklassig unterwegs.
Welche Charaktere sich auch immer hinter LVME verstecken mögen, sie sind garantiert keine Neulinge im Black Metal-Business. „Of Sinful Nature“, das zweite Album der Band unbekannter Herkunft, beinhaltet alles, was dieses Genre in den letzten Jahren aufregend und spannend werden ließ: mitreißendes Songwriting, eine boshafte Atmosphäre, spielerische Finesse und ein starkes Gesamtbild. „Of Sinful Nature“ ist sowohl durchdacht als auch impulsiv und somit ein echter Geheimtipp für alle, die Black Metal mit zeitgemäßem Songwriting und Fokus auf eine dynamische, organische Produktion legen. LVME zeigen also, dass sie die gesamte Klaviatur des Genres beherrschund und sowohl grausiger Lindwurm, als auch janusköpfiger Verführer. Großartig!

Dreamwave’s journey began in a single bedroom, stretching across two cities, with a modest recording setup that has now, for the first time, made its way onto vinyl. In Brighton, the paths of Dreamwave’s members inevitably intertwined, giving birth to a psychedelic rock ensemble that marries their collective passion for retro graphic design, Bauhaus minimalism, and the sci-fi universe of Warhammer.

The origins of Dreamwave trace back to 2018 in Brighton, where Ben (Guitar/Vocals) and Cam (Bass), both university housemates, spent their evenings crafting songs from Ben’s teenage demos using a basic recording setup in his room—a creative ritual that continues to influence their songwriting. Their journey took a pivotal turn when their friend Hester, now the synth player and vocalist, urged them to form a band for a gig she was organizing at The Bee’s Mouth in Hove. It was at this gig that Alex joined as the drummer, completing the formation of Dreamwave.

The band’s move to Bristol introduced a profound transformation in their sound, transitioning from the dreamy coastal ambiance of Brighton to a more intense, brutalist experience inspired by their new environment. Their music now echoes the eclectic influences of bands like Thee Oh Sees, The Dandy Warhols, Black Angels, and Squid, intertwined with the psychedelic undertones of Frankie and the Witch Fingers and Allah Las, and the dynamic energy of King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard.

Their new single, Hidden Sun (out now via Velvet Echoes), is perfectly suited for the barren, dusty settings of Sergio Leone’s spaghetti westerns, yet it carries a dreamlike quality. Inspired by Ennio Morricone’s ethereal synths for Il Mercenario, Dreamwave aimed to craft a composition that exudes a comforting warmth, reminiscent of the soothing, washed-out pastel hues and subtle orange tints found in Leone’s films, akin to the heat from a sun concealed by the desert. Their experience watching Tears For Fears live also profoundly influenced them, leading to experiments with 80s synthesizers and the blending of diverse sounds to explore new musical possibilities.

Das Blues Rock-Projekt LITTLE ALBERT hat nach dem Opener “Still Alive” mit “See My Love Coming Home” einen Video-Clip seines kommenden Albums “The Road Not Taken” veröffentlicht. Es ist nach “Swamp King” (2020) das zweite Solo-Album von MESSA-Gitarrist Alberto Piccolo, der von Bassist Alex Fernet und Drummer Diego Dal Bon unterstützt wurde.

“The Road Not Taken” befasst sich mit dem Konzept der Wahl und ist in eine Reihe von Reflexionen über schiefgegangene Liebe, Bedauern und psychische Gesundheit unterteilt. Das Album wurde analog im Outside Inside Studio in Volpago del Montello aufgenommen und von Matteo Bordin gemixt und gemastert. Erscheinen wird das Album am 29. Imagine a pivotal scene in your favourite show, where the protagonist strolls down the street, lost in thought, on the cusp of realizing their untapped potential and readiness to face the world.

This sets the scene for In Real Life, today’s release (via Artoffact Records) from Vancouver post-punk ensemble ACTORS, featuring Jason Corbett on vocals, Shannon Hemmett on synth, Kendall Wooding on bass, and Adam Fink on drums.

Crafted by Corbett, the song unfurls with a cinematic aura over its three-minute and fifteen-second duration. In Real Life elegantly layers ominous rhythms with celestial synth tones and strategic electric guitar, while robust bass lines and relatable lyrics fill the spaces in between. It’s a soundtrack tailor-made for television.

The song’s narrative delves into the heartache of misplaced trust and the inescapable weight of reality, where fading memories clash with the tender yet treacherous touch of betrayal.  Amidst the turmoil, the protagonist stands resilient, preparing for the onslaught of emotional turmoil, encapsulated in a relentless cycle of hope and despair, waiting for what seems like an eternity, only to confront the inevitable pain.

“Writing and recording music is a kind of creative dance,” muses Corbett. “You don’t always know who’s leading. You just do your best to listen and not get in the way. In Real Life is the beginning of another chapter of the ACTORS journey.”

The music video for In Real Life is a striking film noir masterpiece, presenting a cinema verité perspective that draws us into the night-shrouded city streets in pursuit of a young girl. As she navigates the urban labyrinth, her simple act of eating an apple takes on an eerily ominous quality, as if the fruit were plucked directly from the Tree of Knowledge itself, foreboding the looming loss of innocence that occurs as the dreams of youth fade into memory. This imagery, rich with allegorical undertones, heightens our concern for her safety and well-being. Protect her at all costs.

ACTORS began by releasing a string of popular singles, starting with “Post Traumatic Love” in 2012 and building a dedicated fanbase while eschewing a debut album release for the band’s first six years of existence. In 2018, the Jason Corbett-led foursome signed with Toronto-based Artoffact Records and released its long-awaited debut, It Will Come to You, quickly becoming one of the marquee acts on the label and following with their sophomore release ‘Acts of Worship‘ in 2021. Corbett writes, produces, mixes, and masters all ACTORS music at his own Vancouver studio, Jacknife Sound.

Es darf wieder einmal etwas schräger sein … Und DISORIENTATION haben sich dafür den passenden Namen ausgesucht, als dass man sich bei ihrer aktuellen EP “Survival Mode” manchmal so fühlt, als würde man mit einer Augenbinde quer durch den Wald getrieben werden. Über Wurzeln stolpernd und in den Baumstamm einer Tanne krachend. Dann zwitschern die Vöglein und der Kopf schmerzt.

DISORIENTATION sind kompromisslos schräg und nicht auszurechnen
Ja, das ist schon alles recht schräg, was uns das kanadische Duo – bestehend aus Marie-Claude Fleury und Daniel Daris – auf ihrer nach “Disorientation” (2021) zweiten EP präsentiert – aber umso interessanter. Die Songstrukturen bleiben oft Fragmente und die einzelnen Elemente – insbesondere Oboe und Gesang (zwischen angeschwärztem Geschrei über kauziges Keifen bis hin zum klassischen Clean-Gesang) wetteifern in Sachen Kakophonie. Und dennoch, die Songs und deren Stimmungsaufbau fügen sich dann doch zu einem Ganzen zusammen, das motivierend genug ist, um die Repeat-Taste zu drücken – solange bis die Kopfschmerzen nicht mehr auszuhalten sind.

Swedish electronic act, Ironic Sweden, presents a double single release today via the Danish label Town & Towers Records: “Lost Eden” and “Media Whore”.

Here’s what the band says about “About Lost Eden”: “We all want to find that true big love. Sometimes we think we found it, and then all of a sudden it’s gone. It’s only then we understand the importance of the unconditional love we all long for. It is a catchy synthpop song, that might remind you of the British electronic music group, The Beloved, best known for the 90’s singles “Sweet Harmony”, “Time After Time”, “Hello” and “Satellite”.”

And this is what they say about “Media Whore”: “How far are we willing to go to get likes and 15 minutes of fame. And when we finally get it, are we even aware of how long time it will take to recover or do we ever recover. This is a song in the more old fashion Ironic Sweden style. Some might think the song sounds like And One, spiced up with some Soft Cell notes…”

The two new singles were produced by the Melville brothers, more specific Callum Melville, aka Calibeats from the UK.

Dan Ritzen founded Ironic Sweden, later joined by Stefan Kauppila Johansson and Tezz Markström in 2023. They are signed to Town And Towers Records, where they released the album “Evolution”. Dan’s journey in the music industry began in the late 90s when he and Fredrik Hansson formed the band Obscene Inside. After Fredrik’s departure, Dan transitioned into DJing on an amateur basis. In the mid-2000s, he rebranded the project as “Ironic” and released a self-titled EP. In 2010, he changed the name to Ironic Sweden and produced numerous unreleased songs. The debut EP “Player” was released in December 2017 in a very limited edition on both CD and vinyl. Below is the trio’s first album, “Evolution”.

Einstürzende Neubauten, the Berlin-based avant-garde art-rock collective, has been redefining the boundaries of experimental music since 1980. Known for their innovative use of custom-built instruments and found objects, Blixa Bargeld, N. U. Unruh, Alexander Hacke, Jochen Arbeit, Rudolph Moser, and Felix Gebhard blend industrialized noise with poignant melodies, forever challenging the boundaries of the conventional.

Since the mid-1980s, Einstürzende Neubauten has pioneered the art of “Rampen” on stage – public improvisations that serve as launchpads into the unknown, characterized by their open-ended developments and outcomes. The recordings from the 2022 Rampen, performed during the encores of their latest Alles in Allem tour, form the foundation of their new album. This innovative approach not only shapes the album but also weaves a central theme of change, utopian visions, and transience through every track, acting as a common thread that ties the music together.

Rampen – apm: alien pop music is pop music for parallel universes and in-between worlds ‒ for hyperspaces and interzones. It is microcosmic and intergalactic at the same time. It’s a demi-sophisticated claim outside of all physical laws, with which Einstürzende Neubauten enters a stylistic no man’s land between the past and future. There’s a return to the roots on one side, while a new art form emerges on the other from powerful eruptions of noise encountering cryptic, often fragmentary lyrics: popular music for aliens and outcasts. Anti-pop has become alien pop. Outlandish. Spun like a cocoon. Unheard. Sonus inauditus.

On April 5, Einstürzende Neubauten will release the new double album Rampen – apm: alien pop music Today the band is sharing “Ist Ist,” the first single to be released from the upcoming release. In keeping with the enigma that is Einstürzende Neubauten’s oeuvre, the hypnotic lyrics unfurl as an elusive quest, veiled in the gossamer of mystery. It is a pursuit as quixotic as the hunt for Melville’s Great White Whale—this seeking, this yearning. Is it for love, for spirit, or perhaps, the most elusive quarry of all, a coherent sense of self? Or is it simply, “I’ve been everywhere, man?”

The reduced artwork on the cover is the band’s tribute to the minimalism of the cover for The Beatles’ White Album. “It’s based on the idea that the Einstürzende Neubauten is just as famous in another solar system as The Beatles are in our world,” Blixa Bargeld says. “On the album, I found a few solutions and formulated things in ways I haven’t formulated them before, because they were never so clear to me. I’m someone who believes you can achieve knowledge through music. It’s always been that way. I follow the conviction. I’ll find something in the music that I didn’t know before. And sing something that I didn’t know. Something that turns out to be true. Or, to take this down a notch, something that at least has meaning.”

This album represents the next step in this evolution, where the familiar language is finally left behind, opening further, infinite possibilities: alien pop music.

“Eine Hymne für eine moderne Metal-Generation!” versprechen ALL FOR METAL: Mit einem Video zum Titelsong “Gods Of Metal” haben ALL FOR METAL im März 2024 den ersten Song ihres kommenden Albums im Netz geteilt.

Das zweite Album der Band nennt sich “Gods Of Metal – The Year Of The Dragon” genannt, übrigens zu Ehren des diesjährigen japanischen „Jahr des Drachen“.  “Gods Of Metal – The Year Of The Dragon” erscheint am 23. August 2024 via Reigning Phoenix Music (RPM). Zum Track “Valkyries In The Sky” hat die Gruppe nun ein weiteres Musikvideo produziert. Als Gäste mit dabei sind Laura Guldemond (BURNING WITCHES) sowie Tim Kanoa Hansen (INDUCTION)

Sänger Tetzel stellte die erste Single “Gods Of Metal” mit folgenden Worten vor:

„Eine Hymne für eine moderne Metal-Generation! Wer sind die Göttinnen und Götter des Metal? Nun, das entscheidet letztendlich ihr! Doch der Pantheon ist riesig und verdient Beachtung! “In diesem Lied geht es um den Rand der Verleugnungsphase, wenn das Chaos der Welt in Schach gehalten wird. Die Menschen strecken die Hand aus, aber wir sind an unsere Einsamkeit gefesselt. Die Metalcore-Band WHEN WE WERE WOLVES meldet sich mit einer neuen Single zurück: “Hate Yourself“, das von Jonny Renshaw in den Bandit Studios produziert wurde, ist das erste neue Material der Waliser seit über sieben Jahren. Zuvor hat die Band zwei EPs veröffentlicht.

“Der Song handelt von meinen psychischen Problemen und davon, wie wichtig die Unterstützung durch andere Menschen in meinem Umfeld war. Offen zu sein, wenn man mit Problemen zu kämpfen hat, ist meiner Meinung nach der Schlüssel dazu, weshalb der Text “and I’ll always show that I’m struggling” lautet. Jemandem zu sagen, dass man eine schlimme Zeit durchmacht, scheint mit einem negativen Stigma behaftet zu sein, während es in Wirklichkeit eine sehr positive Sache ist”, erklärt Sänger Mitch Bock.

The Berlin-based post-punk duo Circolo Vizioso have released their debut album “Verrückt”. The music was created mainly with electric violin, guitar and drums. The band is heavily influenced by the sound of 1990s American post-punk and indie rock (i.e. Fugazi, Sonic Youth) and 80s-90s Eastern German and Eastern European punk bands.

Circolo Vizioso is made up of Tony Scafidi (guitar, bass, drum, hi-hat, vocals) and Paul Geigerzaehler (violin, snare drum, vocals).

Earlier, the band presented the singles “Walls”, written in outrage over the Russian invasion in Ukraine, and “Choppy”, a high-octane song spawned from a bout of depression brought on by a failed love story.

Verrueckt by Circolo Vizioso

“On ‘Verrückt’, we wanted to stretch the potential of the bass drum, the high hat, the snare and the tambourine to the utmost. As two people having to sing, play guitar and violin and drums at the same time makes it challenging to come up with refined and intricate drumming. But it does give us an interesting opportunity to exert a furious, instinctively ancestral and liberating beat on a few drums,” says Tony Scafidi.

Paul Geigerzaehler adds, “We wanted to make an album that could express anger, frustration and disaffection against an unfair world and all the discomfort entwined therein. And we wanted to do it with direct and bare lyrics abrasive violin lines, fat distorted guitar solos and big fuzzy riffs. Yet we wanted people to let go of this batshit crazy world in a sort of self-exorcising dance, where one can go to sleep with the illusion of having sweat their demons off at least for the night.”

Formed in March 2020 on a balcony in Friedrichshain, Berlin during the first Covid-19 lock-down, Circolo Vizioso was born as an attempt to keep art and music alive and to provide support to their neighbours during a time when no concerts were happening and no cinemas, museums or galleries were open. Circolo Vizioso is these artists’ attempt to resist the isolation and the lack of social and human contact, as well as the hunger for music and art during this unusual time.

The “Verrückt” album is available via Bandcamp, and from other music platforms, including Apple Music and Spotify.
