Mit “Deal In Steel” wird am 24. Mai 2024 via Metalizer Records das neue Album der Heavy / Thrash Metal-Band REVEREND HOUND erscheinen. Es ist nach “Beyond Savagery” (2009) und “Release the Hounds” (2015) das dritte Album der Bayern aus München.

“Deal In Steel” wurde von Dan Baune gemixt und gemastert und mit einem Cover-Artwork von Joel Sánchez Rosales ausgestattet. Vorab gibt es mit “Days of Wrath” einen Video-Clip.

Die Death / Thrash Metal-Band RISE OF KRONOS hat die Zeit kurzzeitig zurückgedreht, um ihr – damals noch unter dem Namen SURFACE – Debütalbum “Where the Gods Divide” noch einmal aufzunehmen. Die Griechen ROTTING CHRIST blicken auf eine 35 -jährige Bandgeschichte zurück und präsentieren diese Tage ihr 14. Studioalbum “Pro Xristoy”. Die Helenen um Frontmann Sakis Tolis haben sich einen Namen in der Szene gemacht mit Alben wie “A Dead Poem”, “Kata Ton Daimona Eytoy” oder “The Heretics”.

ROTTING CHRIST – der Monolith in der extremen Metalszene
Die Brüder Sakis und Themis stehen mittlerweile wie ein Monolith in der extremen Metalszene. Ging es anfangs noch in Richtung Death Metal, so ist der Sound der Helenen nun um einiges düsterer und mit Chören versehen. Eine Mischung aus melodischem Schwarzmetall und Gothic Metal könnte man meinen. Doch wie sich das neue Album anhört, erfährt ihr nun hier.

Das Intro “Pro Xristoy” bedeutet auf Griechisch “bevor Christus” und baut in seinen eineinhalb Minuten Spielzeit Spannung auf. Sakis übt sich in Spoken Word Lyrics und ein Chor unterstreicht die düstere Stimmung. In dieser Tonart geht es auch im ersten richtigen Titel “The Apostate” weiter. Sehr atmosphärisch und vom Tempo her langsam werden hier Doom-Anleihen laut. Bei diesem Titel und bei “Ygdrassil” beziehen sich ROTTING CHRIST auf historische Figuren, wie Flavius Claudius Julianus und auf die Könige der nordischen Mythologie, was in die Pagan Richtung geht.

ROTTING CHRIST erfinden sich neu und bleiben sich treu
“Like Father, Like Son” kommt mit einer mitreißenden Melodie daher und überzeugt im ROTTING CHRIST-Stil. Man könnte beinahe sagen, im neuen Stil. Denn die letzten Veröffentlichungen der Griechen sind atmosphärisch, langsam und mit Chören versehen. Doch die Titel haben ausnahmslos alle einen hohen Wiedererkennungswert und überzeugen durch musikalischer Reife. Egal ob die Nummer mit “Pix La Sax” einen etwas seltsamen Namen hat. Das Quartett geht gerne extrem düster und dunkel ans Werk, die schnellen Parts sind rar gesät. So zum Beispiel im Titel “The Rarewell”.

Ja es ist schwierig, nach 35 Jahren Musik-Business nicht auf der Stelle zu treten und die Griechen tun das auf keinen Fall. Als Bonus sind auf der Digipack Version des Albums noch zwei zusätzliche Bonustraks vorhanden. ROTTING CHRIST wissen genau, was ihre Fans erwarten und erfüllen diese Haltung mit Bravour. Kein Frage “Pro Xristoy” ist ein gelungenes Werk geworden, das man gerne den ganzen Tag hört. Doch mir fehlen ein wenig die Höhepunkte, die herausstechen.

Mit “Rapture” ist vor wenigen Tagen das neue Symphonic / Melodic Power Metal Album von ANETTE OLZON erschienen. Es ist nach “Shine” (2014) und “Strong” (2021) das dritte Album der schwedischen Band rund um die namensgebende Anette Olzon Sängerin (THE DARK ELEMENT, ULTIMA GRACE, Ex-NIGHTWISH). Weitere Band-Mitglieder sind Produzent, Gitarrist, Bassist und Keyboarder Magnus Karlsson (PRIMAL FEAR, THE FERRYMEN, MAGNUS KARLSSON’S FREE FALL, Ex-ALLEN – LANDE), Drummer Anders Köllerfors (HEART HEALER, NARNIA) sowie Johan Husgafvel, der die Growls beisteuert.

“Rapture” wurde von Jacob Hansen gemixt und gemastert und ist am 10. Mai 2024 via Frontiers Music erschienen. Nach dem Lyric-Video zum Opener “Heed The Call” und einem Video-Clip zum Titeltrack ist nun auch ein Video zu “Hear My Song” erschienen.

Am Mittwoch (15.05.2024) herrschte im Westen von Dresden Ausnahmezustand im positiven Sinne: RAMMSTEIN spielten bei bestem frühsommerlichem Wetter auf dem Open Air-Gelände der sogenannten „Rinne“ am Ostragehege ihre erste Deutschland-Show der aktuellen Tour 2024. Über 50.000 Musikfans reisten an und fluteten für den Tag 1 von 4 das Stadtgebiet. Und hörte man sich um, so bleiben viele von den Gästen auch länger, um an weiteren Konzerttagen dabei zu sein. An diesem ersten Abend hatten Kurzentschlossene übrigens sogar noch Chancen auf Restkarten. Für diese Tour haben die sechs Berliner ein Best-Of Set aus ihrer nun schon fast 30jährigen Bandgeschichte zusammengestellt.

From the first days of the full-scale invasion to the present day, ONUKA has remained and continued to work in Ukraine. Like thousands of Ukrainians, the band draws attention to the war, raises funds to rebuild destroyed homes, and supports humanitarian programs in the country.

Die Sludge / Death-Doom-Metal-Band PILLAR OF LIGHT hat einen Labeldeal bei Transcending Obscurity Records unterschrieben. Im Zuge dessen werden die US-Amerikaner aus Detroit ihr neues und erstes Album “Caldera” veröffentlichen. Ein Release-Termin steht noch nicht fest.

“Caldera” wurde gemeinsam mit Andy Nelson aufgenommen und von Brad Boatright gemastert. Das Cover-Artwork stammt aus dem Fundus von MARIUSZ LEWANDOWSKI. Vorab gibt es den Track “Wolf To Man” zu hören.

Die Symphonic Metal-Band VISIONS OF ATLANTIS hat für 5. Juli 2024 ihr neues Album “Pirates II – Armada” angekündigt. Einen Clip zur zweiten Single “Monsters” kann man sich jetzt bei YouTube anschauen.

Den Titeltrack “Armada” gibt es schon seit März 2024 als Musikvideo bei YouTube im Stream.

“Pirates II – Armada” erscheint via Napalm Records auf CD, Vinyl, Kassette sowie digital. Neben den regulären Ausgaben wird zudem u.a. auch eine limitierte Earbook-Version mit einer orchestralen Version des Albums erhältlich sein. Das Artwork gestaltete Blake Armstrong.

Hell froze over in sunny Pasadena courtesy of the Industrial music icons Ministry, who briefly transformed back into a synth-pop band (kind of) for a Cruel World Festival 2024. This surprising shift delighted fans and shocked skeptics as “Uncle” Al Jourgensen and his bandmates delved into their archives, dusting off the synth-driven tracks from their earliest years. During a nine-song set, a dreadless Jourgensen led the band through a performance that included selections primarily from their 1983 synth-pop debut, With Sympathy, and their darker, more industrial 1986 follow-up, Twitch. This was an unexpected and special treat for fans, as Jourgensen has long disowned With Sympathy, finding it too sugary and pop-oriented.

The significance of this event was underscored by Jourgensen’s contentious relationship with With Sympathy. Since its release on May 10, 1983, Jourgensen has criticized the album for its poppy sound, attributing this to the influence of their then-label, Arista. Despite his disdain, With Sympathy is celebrated by fans as an essential 1980s dark synthpop record. The album’s catchy dance tracks and nostalgic pop structures have earned it a place on new wave and goth dance floors alike. Songs like “Work For Love” showcasing the album’s unique blend of UK synthpop and disco-funk influences.

Ministry’s performance at Cruel World Festival was a nostalgia trip and a vivid demonstration of the band’s evolution over the past 40 years. Transforming into a 13-piece ensemble, Ministry included backing vocals and strings provided by the “Ministrettes” and “Ministrings,” respectively. The lineup featured guest appearances by Tina Guo on electronic cello and Mia Asano on electronic violin, adding a rich, layered sound to the performance. Former Nine Inch Nails keyboardist Charlie Clouser also joined them onstage, contributing to the nostalgic yet innovative atmosphere.

The setlist featured three songs from With Sympathy and the band’s debut single, I’m Falling. These early tracks were completely reworked, possibly due to the masters being burned. But with the additions of backing of the “Ministrettes” and “Ministrings,” these were hardly metal versions of the songs as promised (or threatened) by Uncle Al in an interview with Lindsay Parker last year,

Even though the With Sympathy tracks were not quite synth-pop, the versions of the songs from the Twitch-era were spot on, with Over The Shoulder sounding straight off the album and (Everyday Is) Halloween was the perfect way to end the set, with the B-Side to All Day sounded the best anyone has ever heard it live since the 80s.

The festival itself boasted a stellar lineup with acts like Duran Duran, Tones on Tail, Simple Minds, Gary Numan, and The Jesus and Mary Chain, making for a day packed with iconic performances. However, Ministry was definitely one of the sets that stood out, as they bridged the gap between their synth-pop beginnings and their later industrial powerhouse status.

But don’t hold your breath, as this performance at Cruel World 2024 may be the only time we will ever see a Ministry set list this. And you might still need to pay Uncle Al that $1000 bucks to autograph your copy of With Sympathy.

Fresh off a lauded performance at Cruel World Fest 2024 and a headlining gig at The Fonda in Hollywood, Robert Alfons, the artist known as TR/ST (formerly Trust), has returned with brand new music, teasing his first full-length album since signing to Dais Records earlier this year, and heralding his forthcoming European tour this autumn

Alfons first made waves when he burst onto the scene in 2010. He quickly established himself as a unique force within the underground music world, blending dark electronic pop with a sophisticated edge. Alfons’ sound is marked by brooding rhythms and an enigmatic allure and stylish swagger that has earned him a devoted following.

Since his debut, Alfon’s project TR/ST has navigated the music landscape with finesse. A decade ago, his move from Canada to Los Angeles marked a new chapter, as his project evolved into a cornerstone act in the dark dance music scene. With the release of Joyland in 2014 and the ambitious two-part The Destroyer in 2019, Alfons has continually pushed the boundaries of his creative vision. His work is a testament to his ability to blend moody, atmospheric sounds with infectious dance beats, securing his place in the electronic music scene.

Today, TR/ST unveils his new single Soon and teases a forthcoming album. Soon emerges as a delicate dance floor anthem, driven by a massive new wave hook and underpinned by hymnal electronics. Alfons’ ethereal voice drifts above, imbued with a melancholic weight and intimate tenderness that perfectly matches the pulsating beat. The single captures TR/ST’s ability to blend moody atmospherics with infectious dance rhythms. It highlights a more dreamy and thoughtful creative direction, with a song that feels more like dream pop and ethereal post-punk in the vein of Cocteau Twins and The Cure rather than your standard darkwave club fare.

The lyrics of Soon delve into themes of unresolved emotions and lingering memories. They convey a profound sense of fear and betrayal, with the haunting refrain “scared stiff” echoing the pervasive anxiety. Night In Athens is a dark synth project that was formed in East London in 2020. Unsettling vocals pierce their music with whispers, cajoles, and screams. They delve into the shadows, unearthing the murk and sociopolitical decay of what were once brave societies. Their haunting tunes are dynamic dirges that expose the corruption festering within the human condition.

Their latest single, Words Unspoken, delves into the profound serenity of silence amidst the cacophony of modern existence. Initially, it may seem like a dark wave tune, yet it reveals silence as unsettling, odd, and even frightening. The lyrics portray silence as a sanctuary, a place of wisdom and peace, standing in stark contrast to the world’s turmoil. Through hushed whispers and unspoken words, the song underscores how silence offers true freedom and respite from constant demands, highlighting the modern struggle to communicate emotionally and love genuinely. Silence is often more than just a lack of sound.

The haunting video for Words Unspoken, a performance piece, was filmed in a North London industrial warehouse, under the direction of Simone Pellegrini. The stark, eerie setting perfectly complements the song’s exploration of silence and its unsettling power, creating a visual counterpart to the song’s theme of finding sanctuary amidst chaos.

Night In Athens was kind enough to take the time to speak with Post-Punk.com about the upcoming album and the band’s distinct sound and vision.

What sparked the creation and development of this forthcoming full-length collection, particularly after the “Metropolis” LP?

Everything I’ve written in Crime Seen represents my thoughts on the erosion of individuality and the rise of conformity, as well as mental health and psychological states. These observations, paired with my personal experiences, made for a funny commentary on the record. It was brief and scathing. However, in retrospect, it may have been a touch too “preachy”. Wasted Reflektions offers a more contemplative, metaphorical, and abstract approach than the previous album. There was more to lay out at this time, and it had been two years since the previous one, so there were more tracks in it. The planned record also includes words and concepts that had been created years ago but had never been publicised.

What themes and ideas are explored on the new record?

I believe this album reflects a wide range of feelings and thoughts that most people keep concealed and are unwilling to communicate. It is closely related to the present political atmosphere and the impact it has on us, the people. For example, some songs depict desperation and rage. I observe that the majority of us want to avoid conflict, both with others and ourselves. People who are stuck in a drab, lifeless, robotic routine will understand these lyrics. Technically, there is some experimentation with the voices, and I dabble with incorporating guitar in a couple of tracks.

Are there any collaborations on this new album? Or are there any other artists you would like to work with in the future, from the current scene or classic artists from the 80s and 90s?

There are no collaborations on this album. But certainly, I would love to work with artists. I’ve previously done some additional collaborations that aren’t featured on this album. I enjoy collaborations, especially because I used to be in a band and miss the cooperation factor. There are numerous artists from both eras. In an ideal scenario, I’d want to partner with Xmal Deutschland.  

Your music embraces multiple languages, with songs in Greek, French, and English. How do you decide which language to use for a particular song, and how does it influence the song’s thematic and emotional delivery?

I don’t think about which language to use strategically, although I know my English is more effective for creative writing. The focus on the tonic accent in multisyllabic words makes it easier to come up with a lyric. On the other side, I feel Greek or French are more suited for particular genres of music, such as coldwave, and both sound foreign. To be honest, I don’t write well in Greek or French, therefore the outcome is a lyric that lacks rhyme, however, it could work better with a more melodic song.    

You’ve mentioned using a variety of machines and analogue synths, like Roland drums, to create the desired sounds for your music. Could you elaborate on your creative process and how you integrate these tools to achieve your unique sound?

I do have certain favorite sounds that I use more regularly, such as the snare of Tr-606 drums, which I feel suits well with many of my tracks, or a few of Roland’s sounds. I normally write down my first ideas on a daw. When I have a concept, I can create the song immediately away, making it simple to write. Following that, I attempt to build on the song by visualizing certain sounds or playing with the instruments on the already-created synthesis. Then I find sounds that I believe would go well with the music and record them on the already prepared midi. Recently, I’ve been jamming considerably less, unfortunately.

Much of your music seems to be a reflection of urban life and sociopolitical issues. How do your surroundings and personal experiences in cities like London and Athens shape your music and lyrical themes?

Urban living has a significant impact on my daily life, or rather, it absorbs my daily existence haha. An artist’s ideal atmosphere is one in which they feel comfortable, motivated, and inspired to write. As a writer or artist, you want to be inspired by your surroundings while maintaining concentration. For me, the city gives a level of invisibility that allows me to ‘play’ the observer, listen in on tube and sidewalk discussions, and sit in a cafe with a large window and study people. There are no greater people to watch than those from London. There are so many various types of people telling such diverse stories. There is so much of everything.   

Your music is described as a fusion of dark electro with elements of punk, darkwave, and coldwave. How do you navigate these genres to create your distinctive sound, and what draws you to these particular styles?

 I feel all of these belong to the gloomy synth genre. I write according to my mood and how I feel at the moment. Sometimes I create a song based on lyrics that I already have, which influences the tempo or synthesis. I appreciate a wide variety of compositions. As a listener, I likewise find it difficult to stick to a single and narrow “genre”.    

Who or what are your biggest inspirations, both musically and in terms of your overall creative vision? How do these influences manifest in your work?

 I would argue that movies, literature, and psychology have had a significant influence on me. Because of my academic experience in psychology, I appear to hunt for this pattern in behavior automatically. Furthermore, I believe I have lost confidence in humanity, which is evident in my creative outputs, both musical and artistic. Pessimism is particularly prevalent in those.  

Your work is characterized by a strong DIY ethic, with much of your music being produced in your own space. How important is this level of control to you, and how does it impact the authenticity of your music?

  Yes, I would not refer to my project as DIY, if you don’t mind, but I record, produce, make artwork and videos, self-fund, and distribute my music up to this point. One undeniable benefit of taking a DIY approach is that you are not constrained by anyone but yourself when it comes to your music. With the ability to establish your own sound, creative goals, and timetables, you can completely enjoy experimentation and exploration without compromise. I enjoy the independence; aesthetic output is really vital to my artistry. However, I believe that contemporary DIY can include labels (depending on the contract and your artistry).  

Besides music, you also delve into visual arts, often with dark and pessimistic themes. How do you blend your visual artistry with your music, and how do both mediums influence each other in your creative process?

 I use metaphor, symbolism, sarcasm, and nihilism in both music and visual work. Both media provide a through-line connection. Lyrics are the vehicle that transfers my emotions. I begin by putting down words and fragments of ideas concerning my feelings. Then, start weaving them together to form a narrative that captures the essence of how I’m feeling. Similarly, I tell brief stories through art. Furthermore, I enjoy designing my posters, t-shirts, and amateur videos for the music project.   

Looking ahead, what new themes or sounds are you exploring for your future projects? Are there any collaborations or new directions you’re particularly excited about?

I’ve recently started experimenting with FM. I appreciate an intriguing bassline. I feel this can be observed in several tracks from my past EPs; I’ve been experimenting with that sound on a couple of them. I’d like to take the next project in that way further, but I believe I have to learn a lot more. I’m new to electronic music production, so there’s plenty of room for learning and advancement.

Nicht immer waren wir uns zu einhundert Prozent sicher, in welcher Ecke des Death Metal wir NECROTTED nun verorten sollen. „Imperium“ gibt darauf endlich eine ganz entschiedene Antwort: Die Abtsgmünder passen in alle zugleich, was durchaus dem Kredo der Band zu entsprechen scheint. Beschränken will man sich eben nicht von vornherein, weshalb schon der Opener „A Veiled Awakening“ mit einem KATAKLYSM-artigen Groove startet, zu dem sich später eine morbide Lead-Melodie gesellt.

Melodisch knüpft direkt das deutschsprachige „Reich der Gier“ an, wo das Quintett irgendwo zwischen AKREA und HYPOCRISY einen kleinen Hit geschmiedet hat. Dass „Imperium“ für ein so vielseitiges Death-Metal-Werk dennoch erstaunlich zugänglich bleibt, liegt nicht selten an den Refrains, die trotz der zweifellos vorhandenen Härte zuverlässige Ankerpunkte bieten. Doch selbst wenn NECROTTED ein wenig mit der Struktur herumspielen und etwa auf die furiosen Blastbeats in „Sow Sorrow For Victory“ ein getragenes Finale samt schwermütigem Solo folgen lassen, verlieren wir nicht die Orientierung.

NECROTTED müssen für Eingängigkeit nicht ihre Härte opfern
Da Shouter Fabian Fink sowohl kellertiefes Growling als auch gellende Screams mit gehörig Druck versieht, wären die Gastauftritte in „Ignorance Is Fear“ eigentlich überhaupt nicht nötig gewesen. Sinn ergeben die Features von Tomáš (ABBIE FALLS) und DEFOCUS-Frontmann Simon jedoch durchaus, immerhin verbinden NECROTTED hier klassische Death-Metal-Schule mit ein wenig Deathcore-Flair. Gut zu Gesicht steht der Genre-Mix der Band ohnehin, schließlich steht „Imperium“ produktionstechnisch mit beiden Beinen im aktuellen Jahrhundert.

Warum der massive Soundteppich dennoch nicht ermüdet, liegt in Teilen zumindest auch an der kompakten Spielzeit: Eine gute halbe Stunde dauert die Death-Metal-Walze, die uns in dieser Zeit aber immer wieder auf clevere Art und Weise Honig ums Maul schmiert. Die cleane Gitarre im abschließenden „My Reign Come, My Will Be Done“ sei hier genannt, mit der uns NECROTTED zum Finale nochmals ein winziges neues Detail präsentieren. Aus welcher Ecke des Genres dieses Stilmittel nun schon wieder entliehen wurde? Wen kümmert’s, wenn das so entstehende Potpourri selbst knüppelharte Spielrichtungen auf einmal verdammt einladend aussehen lässt.

Die Symphonic Deathcore-Band DOWNFALL OF MANKIND hat mit “Purgatory” ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist nach “Vile Birth” (2022) das zweite Album der Portugiesen aus Lissabon.

“Purgatory” wurde gemeinsam mit Matthew K. Heafy (TRIVIUM) produziert und wird am 14. Juni via Seek and Strike erscheinen. Vorab gibt es einen Video-Clip zum Titeltrack.

Nach zehn Jahren veröffentlichte SEBASTIAN BACH im Dezember 2023 wieder neue Musik: ‘What Do I Got To Lose?’ war der Titel der neuen Single, das Video dazu gibt’s bei YouTube.

Geschrieben haben den Song Bach, Myles Kennedy und Elvis Baskette.

„Für mich atmet ‘What Do I Got To Lose?’ den Geist der aktuellen Zeit“, sagt Sebastian Bach. „Dies ist eine Hymne für all jene, die auf die Bildfläche zurückkehren und es allen zeigen wollen. Es ist Zeit für eine Kampfansage, man sollte es mal wieder wie früher krachen lassen!“

Das Stück war gleichzeitig der erste Vorgeschmack auf das Studioalbum “Child Within The Man”, aus dem der Musiker nach “Everybody Bleeds” und “(Hold On) To The Dream” mit “Freedom” nun eine vierte Single ausgekoppelt hat.

“Child Within The Man” wurde von Elvis Baskette produziert und gemischt, das Mastering übernahm Robert Ludwig. Erschienen ist die Platte am 10. Mai 2024 via Reigning Phoenix Music auf CD, Vinyl, Kassette sowie digital.

This past weekend’s aurora borealis flares might have lit up the skies, but at the 2024 edition of Pasadena’s Cruel World Fest, one of the most anticipated reunions charged the stage with a haunting glow, with Bauhaus sister band Tones on Tail, playing their first show since their first and only world tour nearly 40 years ago (39 years and seven months since the last date on the band’s US leg, but a mere six days shy of the 40th anniversary of their first gig on May 17th, 1984).

With Bauhaus playing the inaugural Cruel World Fest in 2022 and Love and Rockets playing in 2023, Tones on Tail completed the hat trick of bands featuring Kevin Haskins and Daniel Ash and established a growing legacy for the annual Goldenvoice event with it seemingly booking one-night-only and once-in-a-lifetime performances. Cruel-to-the-rest-of-the-World, perhaps?

As the final band on the schedule took the stage that evening in Pasadena, black-clad crowds rushed across the Brookside golf course over to the Sad Girls stage to witness the official return of Tones on Tail for the first time since 1984. Previously, members of the band toured as POPTONE in 2017 and 2018, where they played Tones on Tail songs mixed with some of Ash’s Love & Rockets and Bauhaus songs. But this felt more magical than POPTONE. This honed-down set was razor sharp yet packed solely with Tones on Tail’s avant-garde and experimental post-punk classics…

Save for one, as the set kicked off with the band’s classic cover of Elvis Presley’s “Heartbreak Hotel,” setting the tone for a nostalgic, dreamy, and energetic performance that shimmered through the evening with glittering darkness. Fans were treated to perfect live renditions of the band’s beloved tracks, showcasing why Tones on Tail remains a cult favorite.

The Tones on Tail lineup featured Daniel Ash and Kevin Haskins, with Haskins’ daughter, Diva Dompe, rounding up the lineup on bass. Diva took the stage with an uncanny suaveness and swagger that now surpasses that of her uncle David J, resembling an even more androgynous incarnation of Mick Karn from Japan. Unfortunately, founding member Glenn Campling could not rejoin the band for the reunion, but he had previously given his bandmates his blessing:

“After a lengthy chat with Danny Ash on Sunday about the pros and cons and possibilities of my involvement at Cruel World Festival, we agreed that there were too many obstacles to overcome and that a substitute with more capable hands than mine was the only realistic option. So, I’ve given my support and blessing to use the name as they’ll only be performing TOT material. I wish them well and maybe meet up at the aftershow for tea and biscuits.”

Both father and daughter, Diva and Kevin of the Haskins / Dompe clan, donned sailor’s hats during the rendition of Go!, but if I could file one complaint about this flawless performance, it would be that Daniel Ash didn’t understand the assignment. Instead of smartly sporting a white suit like he had done back in 84, he wore the most Gothic outfit he could find, threads almost too goth for Bauhaus if we’re being honest. But that is but a minor quibble put immediately to rest by the bleeding of his sax during a chill-inducing rendition of Movement of Fear and razor-sharp rendition of Performance, a single that features one of the best interplays of marching drums, rhythmic synths, and swerving guitars of all time.
