Die Melodic Hard Rock-Band DARK MILE hat einen Labeldeal bei Pride & Joy Music unterschrieben. Die Modern Metal / Alternative Metal-Band SIAMESE hat zu ihrem neuen Song “Predator” einen Clip produziert. Die Nummer stammt vom kommenden Album “Elements”, das am 9. August 2024 via Long Branch Records auf CD, Vinyl sowie digital erscheinen wird.

Noch im April veröffentliche die Gruppe das Stück “Through My Head” bei YouTube. An dem Song wirkt RESOLVE-Sänger Anthony Diliberto mit. Außerdem stellte die Band “Vertigo” mit einem Visualizer-Clip bei YouTube vor.

Der Track folgt auf die Single “On Fire”, zu der die Gruppe ein Musikvideo gedreht hat.

Der große Befreiungsschlag bleibt aus, doch trüben kann der relative sichere Ansatz das Endresultat nur unwesentlich. Dass sich LIKE MOTHS TO FLAMES mit neuem Line-up zunächst nicht an allzu große Experimente wagen, ist ohnehin verständlich; dafür aber zeigt sich das Quartett auf „The Cycles Of Trying To Cope“ vornehmlich von seiner besten Seite.

Neuzugang Roman Garcia mischt dem modernen Metalcore durch sein abwechslungsreiches Schlagzeugspiel gleichermaßen Details wie Nachdruck bei, wodurch die Platte vom Opener „Angels Weep“ an ein gesundes Maß an Zug aufweisen kann. Es ist somit das perfekte Fundament für das Gitarrenduo Zach Pishney und Cody Cavanaugh, das beide rund 40 Minuten lang zu nutzen wissen. Djent-Vibes sind dieser Tage natürlich unumgänglich, doch das Gespann erweitert selbige durch verspielte Leadgitarren, akzentuierte Slides und einige wenige subtil platzierte Dissonanzen.

LIKE MOTHS TO FLAMES erschließen kein neues Terrain, überzeugen aber mit starkem Songwriting
Somit bleibt die Intensität fast durchgehen hoch, zumal Frontmann Chris Roetter seine lesenswerten Texte mit Herzblut zu intonieren weiß. Klargesang nutzt die Band in Stücken wie „Kintsugi“, „Over The Garden Wall“ oder „Gone Without A Trace“ natürlich auch im Refrain, ohne die Clean-Vocals jedoch immer zum Fixpunkt der Stücke zu machen. Vielmehr ist die Singstimme eine weitere Facette, um das richtige Ventil für die jeweiligen Emotionen zu finden.

Mittels Synthesizer und Laut-Leise-Dynamik bricht das gemäßigte „Dissociative Being“ das Schema zwischendurch auf, verpasst es aber leider, auf diese Weise neues Terrain zu erschließen. Auch deshalb sind LIKE MOTHS TO FLAMES nie gänzlich davor gefeit, Teile ihrer Identität verwischen zu sehen: Angesichts gegenwärtiger Trends kommt den US-Amerikanern das eine oder andere Alleinstellungsmerkmal abhanden, was allerdings zumindest durch das starke Songwriting größtenteils ausgeglichen werden kann.

“The Cycles Of Trying To Cope” ist auch ohne Innovationen ein gelungener Metalcore-Beitrag
Das verbissene „The Shepherd’s Crown” zieht uns etwa mit seinem hartnäckigen Groove in den Bann, bevor das abschließende „What Do We See When We Leave This Place?“ aufgrund seines verbittert-melancholischen Untertons ein triftiges Argument für die Repeat-Taste vorlegt. Schlussendlich also mehr als genug Argumente, um „The Cycles Of Trying To Cope“ trotz des vergleichsweise konservativen Ansatzes am oberen Ende der Skala zu verorten: Den Status quo erhalten LIKE MOTHS TO FLAMES auch mit neuer Besetzung – ein idealer Ausgangspunkt, um beim nächsten Mal die sich langsam rostrot färbenden Ketten zu sprengen.

Die Technical Death Metal-Band SUMMONING THE LICH hat mit “Under The Reviled Throne” ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist nach “United in Chaos” (2021) das zweite Album der US-Amerikaner aus St. Louis.

“Thematisch ist dieses Album definitiv düsterer als “United In Chaos” und wir haben wirklich hart daran gearbeitet, die Wildheit und Bösartigkeit von Lich klanglich zu erreichen, während wir immer noch versuchten, eingängigen Fun Death Metal zu schreiben”, sagt Sänger David Bruno.

“Under The Reviled Throne” wurde von Jack Daniels (WAR OF AGES, HOPE FOR THE DYING) bei The Armory Recording produziert und von John Douglass (u.a. für SONS OF APOLLO tätig) gemastert. Das Cover-Artwork stammt erneut von Austin Phillips.

Die japanische Metalcore-Band SABLE HILLS hat eine neue Single veröffentlicht: “Battle Cry” bei YouTube; als Gast zu hören ist hier außerdem Kenta Koie (CROSSFAITH). Wie schon das Lyric-Video “No Turning Back”, das ein Gast-Feature von Trevor Phipps (UNEARTH) enthält, ist der Track Teil des neuen Albums “Odyssey”, das am 19. Sängerin CHARLOTTE WESSELS hat ihr neues Album “The Obsession” für 20. September 2024 angekündigt. Einen Höreindruck verschafft vorab die Single “The Exorcism”, zu welcher Wessels auch ein Musikvideo produziert hat.

Für “The Obsession” arbeitete die Musikern mit einer kompletten Band zusammen: Gitarrist Timo Somers, Bassist Otto Schimmelpenninck van der Oije und Schlagzeuger Joey Marin de Boer teilten sich bereits mit CHARLOTTE WESSELS während ihrer Zeit in DELAIN die Bühne. Komplettiert wird das Line-up von Pianistin und Orgelspielerin Sophia Vernikov.

“The Obsession” erscheint via Napalm Records auf CD, Vinyl sowie digital und wurde von Guido Aalbers gemischt. Das Mastering hingegen übernahm Andy VanDette. Über die Platte hat CHARLOTTE WESSELS Folgendes zu sagen:

„Einerseits erzählt dieses Album eine sehr persönliche Geschichte – durch sein unbeabsichtigtes Thema der Angst, der zwanghaften Gedanken und der Flucht vor ihnen – und gleichzeitig repräsentiert es die Freude, mit allen, die an der Entstehung dieses Albums beteiligt waren, die wahren Formen der Songs zu finden. Deshalb habe ich The Obsession als Titel gewählt. Er bezieht sich auf meine persönlichen Herausforderungen mit OCD, die viele der Songs inspiriert haben – aber ich habe auch begonnen, die Band als The Obsession zu bezeichnen – weil es Momente im Studio mit ihnen gab, die mich wirklich daran erinnert haben, warum ich überhaupt besessen davon bin, Musik zu machen.“

HARM’S WAY haben mit “Terrorizer” einen weiteren Video-Clip veröffentlicht. Im September 2023 präsentierte man zuvor das Video “Undertow” – mit Kristina Esfandiari (KING WOMAN).

“Der Song blickt auf den Kreislauf von Leben und Tod und auf den eigenen Prozess der Akzeptanz des Letzteren. Wir können zwar argumentieren, dass Selbsterhaltung von Natur aus menschlich ist, aber Frieden mit dem Tod und dem Sterben zu finden, bringt uns der Demut und unserer gemeinsamen Menschlichkeit ein Stück näher”, sagt die Band.

Die aktuelle Platte der Metalcore-Band heißt “Common Suffering” und erschien am 29. September 2023 via Metal Blade Records. Sie entstand im Studio 4 in Pennsylvania, produziert hat sie Will Yip.

Im August 2023 ist die zweite Vorab-Single erschienen: “Devour” bei YouTube.

I slept in silence
Sweeter than a Georgia peach yet steeped in nocturnal allure, Atlanta-based dark synth-pop duo Teardux pushes forward with an ever-growing momentum with the debut of yet another shimmering dancefloor anthem, Violets.

This latest single, from a band that has not yet released anything less than a darkwave banger, showcases Valerie Andra’s hauntingly evocative vocals and Dylan Anderson’s exquisite command of beats and melodies. Andra’s ethereal voice, echoing early Madonna with a subtle southern twang, slices through Anderson’s chiming synths and shadowy beats, leading listeners like a spectral guide. Together, their enthralling fusion of rhythm and emotion recalls the essence of Pet Shop Boys and Xymox, yet their distinctive dance music edge distinguishes them within the underground music scene.

Violets also strongly evokes the spirit of Depeche Mode’s Music For The Masses era, particularly the hypnotic pulse of Behind The Wheel. Imagine ’80s pop and classic darkwave reverberating like a disco ball casting its fragmented light in an abandoned shopping mall. Like a forgotten place where neon signs still flicker in hues of magenta and blue, enveloping store windows in a neon-tinged ghostly glow, this is the sound and vision that Teardux pulls from their aural dream space.

“Violets is about a vivid, hypnagogic fever-dream where it’s difficult to discern reality from fantasy,” says the band. “Washes of color and blurred dark street corners. Where pieces of your relationships and daily life bleed into your dreams becoming contorted and exaggerated. All while having no agency of your own.”

The lyrics of Violets wade through the deep, melancholic waters of love lost and the lingering, spectral memories it leaves behind. Phrases such as “Your heart of stone, I slept in silence” and “This love you confiscated, I’m left with nothing but disdain” paint a vivid picture of a relationship fraught with bitterness and turmoil. The imagery of “a rose left in the dead of night” and “skies of violets” conjures a haunting beauty, a poignant blend of sorrow and splendor. The chorus echoes the themes of love seized and disdain, encapsulating the tangled emotions at play. Andra’s voice, ethereal and evocative, guides listeners through these ghostly lines, drawing them into a world where the echoes of love’s past haunt the mind like whispers in the dark.

Steil nach oben geht es derweil für KNOCKED LOOSE, die es mit “You Won’t Go Before You’re Supposed To” bis auf die 16 schaffen. Für “A Different Shade Of Blue” war 2019 noch auf Platz 53 die Grenze errreicht. Ein paar Positionen einbüßen müssen hingegen UNLEASH THE ARCHERS, deren “Phantoma” auf einem respektablen 33. “Wir haben uns beim Komponieren von ‘The Savage Winds to Wisdom’ mehr Mühe gegeben. Nach dem Weggang von Steve Pygmalion wird künftig Qual die Aufgaben des Drummers bei der symphonischen Extrem-Metal-Band aus Stockholm übernehmen. Die erste Show mit dem neuen Lineup findet am 5. und 6. Juli beim Metal Theatre Festival in Kalmar, Schweden statt.

Rückblickend auf seine Zeit mit der Band sagt Steve Pygmalion: „Zornheym ist ein wichtiger Teil meines Lebens, seit ich 2017 eingestiegen bin. Zorn, der Gründer der Band, drückte seine Begeisterung über den Beitritt von Qual aus: „Mit Qual hat es sich von Anfang an natürlich angefühlt! Es ist keine leichte Aufgabe, den Drum-Thron nach Angst und Steve zu besetzen, aber er macht einen fantastischen Job.“

Qual, bekannt für seine Zusammenarbeit mit Bands wie Prime Creation, Morifade und Nephenzy, über den Einstieg in die Band: „Ich bin extrem glücklich und stolz, ein Teil von Zornheym und ihrer verrückten Welt zu sein. Ich war schon immer ein Fan ihrer coolen Mischung aus extremem Metal, symphonischen Elementen, gutem Songwriting und Bendlers fantastischer Stimme. Und natürlich das ganze Zornheym-Konzept. Ich möchte mich ganz herzlich bei Zorn, Bendler und Scucca bedanken, dass sie an mich geglaubt und mich auf diese Reise eingeladen haben. Mit “As Above, So Below” hat die Rock-Band HIGHLY SUSPECT für 19. Juli 2024 ein neues Studioalbum angekündigt. Den ersten Höreindruck gibt es in Form der Single “Summertime Voodoo” bei YouTube. Sänger Johnny Stevens erklärt zum Stück:

„Wenn mein Leben ein Buch ist, dann ist dieses Album das erste Kapitel, das den zentralen Konflikt wirklich zum Thema macht. Das Anerkennen eines Egos, die Probleme, die es verursacht hat – und die Geburtsstunde seines Todes. ‚As Above, So Below‘. Wenn ich ganz ehrlich zu mir bin, muss ich feststellen: Ich bin wieder am absoluten Tiefpunkt angekommen. Nachdem ich dem Tod ein weiteres Mal von der Schippe gesprungen bin, fühle ich mich hellwach. Mit “Heathen Cross” erscheint am 31. Mai 2024 das neue Album der NWOBHM / Heavy Metal-Band CLOVEN HOOF erscheinen. Es ist das zehnte Album der Engländer und das erste mit dem neuen Sänger Harry Conklin (JAG PANZER, SATAN´S HOST, THE THREE TREMORS).

Reinhören kann man nun auch in die zweite Single “Sabbath Stones” bei YouTube. Schon seit April gibt es zu “Last Man Standing” ein Lyric-Video.

“Harry Conklin ist ein Weltklasse-Sänger”, freu sich Band-Mitbegründer und Bassist Lee Payne. “Er ist super engagiert und hochprofessionell, und wir wussten, dass er nahtlos in die Band passen würde. Mit einem Video zu „Unholy Grail“, stellen REZET ihr kommendes Album vor. Die sechste Platte der Trash Metal-Band trägt den Titel “Rezet” und erscheint am 30. August 2024 via Violent Creek Records / Soulfood.

Anfang 2023 stieß Gitarrist Nikolay Atanasov (u.a. AGENT STEEL) zur Band, neu dabei ist auch Bassist Lorenz Kandolf (u.a. TRAITOR). Zur Stammbesetzung  gehören seit dem Debütalbum „Have Gun, Will Travel“ (2010) Sänger und Gitarrist Ricky Wagner sowie Schlagzeuger Bastian „attt“ Santen.

Produziert, gemixt und gemastert wurde das Album erneut von Eike Freese.

Vier Jahre nach “Forgotten Days” bringen PALLBEARER ein neues Album raus: “Mind Burns Alive” erscheint am 17. Mai 2024 via Nuclear Blast Records. Nun gibt es auch zum Titelsong ein Video bei YouTube.

“Die Songs gehen in Puncto Dynamik und Klang tiefer als alles, was wir je veröffentlicht haben”, so beschreibt Sänger/Gitarrist Brett Campbell  das Album. “Echte Emotionen erzeugen wahre Härte, manchmal ist reines Geknüppel nicht der richtige Ansatz, um ein Gefühl zu transprtieren.”

Mit “Endless Place”  hat die Doom Metal-Band im April einen weiteren Song von “Mind Burns Alive” vorgestellt. Als erste Single teilten PALLBEARER ein einem Video zu ‘Where The Light Fades’.

Eigentlich sollte “Mind Burns Alive” bereits 2020 aufgenommen werden, es wurde dann aber 2023, bis sich die Band wieder im Studio zusammenfand. Die Platte entstand im neuen, bandeigenen Idlewild Audio Studio sowie im Fellowship Hall Sound.

Am 4. Oktober 2024 erscheint das neue D-A-D Album “Speed Of Darkness”. Die 13. Platte der Dänen erscheint via AFM Records.

Heute haben D-A-D gleich zwei Songs daraus geteilt, “The Ghost” “1st, 2nd & 3rd” kann man sich bei den üblichen Streamingdiensten anhören.

„‚The Ghost‘ ist ein epischer Knaller samt skandinavischer Melancholie. Ein Song über getrennte Liebe, Verlust und Hoffnung in einer fragmentierten Zeit. Über das Festhalten an etwas, das kommen könnte oder schon verschwunden ist. Bei „1st, 2nd & 3rd“ geht es um den langen, harten Einfluss, wenn man versucht, etwas zu entkommen, das einen wirklich zurückhält. In der Sucht gefangen zu sein mit Rückfällen in schlechte Beziehungen, mit der Hoffnung, weiterzukommen.“

Nick Foss hat “Speed Of Darkness” produziert, das Mastering ist von Jacob Hansen.

Im Sommer sind D-A-D auf einigen Festivals zu sehen, im November ist die Band auch in Deutschland auf Tour.

Die Power Metal-Band ORDEN OGAN hat einen Plattenvertrag mit Reigning Phoenix Music abgeschlossen. Den Deal kommentiert Sänger Sebastian “Seeb” Levermann wie folgt:

„ORDEN OGAN freuen sich bekanntzugeben, dass wir einen Vertrag mit dem aufstrebenden Giganten der Heavy-Metal-Szene unterzeichnet haben: RPM! Wir werden mit alten und neuen Freundinnen und Freunden zusammenarbeiten und sind äußerst gespannt auf das, was kommen wird. Darüber hinaus steht ein Musikvideo zum Titeltrack via YouTube auf Abruf bereit. Der erste Vorgeschmack aus “The Order Of Fear” ist die Single “My Worst Enemy”, zu der die Gruppe ebenfalls ein Musikvideo produziert hat. Den Hintergrund des Stück erklärt das Gespann wie folgt:

“The Lighthouse” liegt ein Konzept zugrunde: Es drehe sich um das Konzept von “Zuhause” – ein Ort, an dem man sich geborgen fühle, auch um dunklen mentalen Momenten zu entkommen. Produziert wurde die Platte von Gladius James.

Die Rock-Band hat außerdem im Oktober ein Video zu “Goddess” bei YouTube geteilt.

BODY COUNT haben mit “Psychopath” einen ersten Song ihres neuen Albums “Merciless” veröffentlicht, das Lyrics-Video hat um 18 Uhr Premiere bei YouTube. 

Für “Psychopath” arbeiteten BODY COUNT mit FIT FOR AN AUTOPSY-Sänger Joe Bad zusammen.  Will Putney hat den Song produziert.

“Merciless” soll noch in diesem Jahr über Century Media Records veröffentlicht werden.

Live kann man die Band um ICE-T bereits im Sommer erleben, BODY COUNT spielen auf einigen Festivals und haben jetzt auch Clubkonzerte angekündigt. In Deutschland ist ein Hallen-Konzert im Hamburg geplant, BODY COUNT spielen auch zweimal in der Schweiz.

Das Gothic Rock-Duo ZETRA hat nun auch einen Clip zu “The Mirror” hochgeladen. Das selbstbetitelte Debütalbum “Zetra” erscheint am 13. September 2024.

Im April stellten ZETRA ein ein Video zu ihrem Song “Starfall” bei YouTube  vor. Als Gast ist außerdem Serena Cherry (SVALBARD) zu hören. Das Stück foglt auf die Coverversion von THE CUREs “Burn“. Im Frühjahr 2024 ist die Band auf Tour, bei den Terminen in Deutschland spielen ZETRA im Vorprogram von VV.

Die Symphonic Metal-Band ELVELLON veröffentlichte am 17. Mai 2024 ihr neues Album “Ascending In Synergy” via Napalm Records auf CD, Vinyl sowie digital. Den Release feiert die Gruppe mit einem weiteren Videoclip: “The Aftermath Of Life” bei YouTube.

Zur zweiten Single “My Forever Endeavour” hat die Formation ein weiteres Musikvideo produziert. Seit März 2024 steht überdies ein erster Höreindruck bereit: “A Vagabond’s Heart” bei YouTube.

“Ascending In Synergy” folgt dem Album “Until Dawn” (2018) nach. Die Formation kommentiert:

“Wir sind unglaublich gespannt, wie unsere Fans Ascending In Synergy aufnehmen werden. Seit unserem Debütalbum ist viel passiert und der Songwriting-Prozess hat sich stark verändert. Es fühlt sich für uns immer noch wie 100% ELVELLON an, aber die Dynamik hat sich erweitert. Es ist orchestraler und gleichzeitig metallischer geworden. Auch textlich halten wir uns nicht mehr an ein einziges Konzept, sondern die Songs werden von einem roten Faden zusammengehalten.”

Obsession. That peculiar and unpredictable beast takes root in the fertile soil of our minds, winding its tendrils around every thought until the world is reframed through the lens of infatuation. Limerence, the intoxicating dance between reality and fantasy, sweeps us into its vortex, where rationality is cast aside, and the beloved becomes a deity in the shrine of our imaginations.

In this curious state, our minds enter a cyclical pattern, an endless loop of idealization and yearning. We dissect every interaction and replay every moment, seeking hidden meanings in the mundane. It’s a bizarre, freaky, and altogether naïve experience where the heart races and the palms sweat, and the object of our affection takes on an almost mythical significance.

This one-sided and idealist perspective is a heady mix of hope and delusion; a dream world where every glance is loaded with unspoken affection, every word a secret code. This madness feels too good to relinquish. It is a drug that numbs the edges of reality and offers a tantalizing glimpse into reciprocated desire, where the mundane is transfigured into the extraordinary.

Within this self-constructed reverie, however, there’s a fragility addressed in Julia Gaeta’s new dark pop track, Fragments of Pain. The highs are dizzying, yes, but the lows can be devastating. The object of our obsession, often blissfully unaware of the intensity of our feelings, remains a distant star, bright and unattainable. And so, we are left oscillating between the thrill of imagined possibilities and the despair of unfulfilled longing.

Fragments of Pain, sounding like the bridge between shoegaze and alternative rock, echoes the late 90s and early 2000s, encased in a stylish post-punk veneer. It’s an intriguing fusion where the alternative and gothic textures collide with a colossal chorus, drawing from the legacies of Killing Joke, Depeche Mode, Siouxsie, and Alice In Chains, all while nodding towards the infectious simplicity of 90s bubblegum pop and modern avant pop, as Gaeta explains in a recent interview. 

The music video, a collaboration between Gaeta, Clara Griot, and Estelle Walton, amplifies this hybrid aesthetic. Their visual narrative weaves together shadowy imagery with bursts of stark, emotive clarity, reflecting the track’s compelling interplay of darkness and melody. Here, the juxtaposition of influences creates a potent, almost paradoxical experience, embodying a sonic and visual dichotomy that is as arresting as it is nostalgic.

With her debut solo EP, Blur Divine, Paris-based American artist Julia Gaeta invites us into a nocturnal expanse, a realm where introspection meets the pulse of the dance floor in a collection of ‘unlove’ songs. Gaeta’s sophisticated dark pop intertwines with industrial undertones and a sultry edge, creating a sound that is both gritty and alluring.

Blur Divine explores the distorted perceptions and fractured realities of troubled love, draping these darker themes in a fragile, spectral glow. Gaeta masterfully balances the tension between the introspective and the groove-worthy, her music echoing through the twilight hours with a haunting resonance. It’s a work that finds beauty in the bleak, casting a ghostly luminescence on the shadows of romantic disillusionment.

Gaeta joined forces with LA-based producer Alex DeGroot, known for his work with Zola Jesus, for her album. Packed with powerful beats, warped synths, reverberating guitars, and Gaeta’s profound vocal range, Blur Divine hooks us swiftly and deeply, enticing us to tread a path into territories that are strangely recognizable yet uncharted.

„Mir war schnell klar, dass es das noch nicht gewesen sein kann. Ich hatte nie den Plan, nie wieder zu spielen”, sagte SLAYER-Gitarrist KERRY KING. Nachdem SLAYER 2019 zu Grabe getragen wurden, veröffentlichte KERRY KING am 17. Mai 2024 sein Soloalbum “From Hell I Rise”, das Album erscheint via Reigning Phoenix Music. Zum Release gibt es außerdem einen Clip zu “Toxic” bei YouTube.

Mit einem Video zu “Residue” stellte King Mitte April 2024 einen weiteren Song seiner Soloplatte vor. Über das Video sagt der Gitarrist:

“Meine Musik hat schon immer mit Feuer gut funktioniert, es liegt quasi in meinem Blut. Es das liegt es nahe, im ersten Video, in dem man die ganze Band sieht, mit Feuer zu arbeiten. Feuer geht Hand in Hand mit dem Teufel, und ich habe ja eine gewisse Erfahtung, darin, über den Teufel zu sprechen.”

Mit “Idle Hands” bei YouTube veröffentlichte KERRY KING Anfang Februar den ersten Song der Platte vor und verspricht:

„Wenn du jemals SLAYER in irgendeiner Phase unseres Schaffens gemocht hast, gibt es etwas auf dieser Platte, das dir gefallen wird, sei es klassischer Punk, schneller Punk, Thrash oder einfach nur Heavy Metal!“

Josh Wilbur hat “From Hell I Rise” produziert, eingespielt wurde das Album in zwei Wochen in den Henson Studios  in Los Angeles. Über die Zusammenarbeit mit KERRY KING sagt Wilbur:

„Er ist Kerry King von SLAYER, ich habe diese Band millionenmal gehört. Er ist einfach präsent. Kerry hat kein übersteigertes Ego, aber er besitzt ein gesundes Selbstvertrauen, was eine gute Sache ist. So stellt man sich einen Rockstar vor und wünscht sich ihn für seine Band. Er wirkt nie wie ein Idiot oder böser Kerl. Aber er weiß, was er will und redet nicht um den heißen Brei herum. Er sagt nicht einfach: ‚Das geht so nicht’, sondern weiß genau, wie er die Sache haben will. Sehr direkt, aber immer mit dem erforderlichen Maß an Respekt und Können. Es hat wirklich Spaß gemacht, mit Kerry zu arbeiten.“

Laut King befasst sich sein neues Material mit:

„diversen religiösen und kriegsnahen Themen. Musikalisch zwischen schweren Riffs, punkigen Einlagen sowie doomigen und düsteren Elementen. Dies alles versetzt mit einer höllischen Geschwindigkeit. Selbst mit einem komplett fertigen Album in den Händen habe ich noch enorm viele Songs in der Hinterhand, die es fertigzustellen gilt. Hier weiß ich, was ich zu tun habe… Erstens Musik, zweitens Metal. Das ist seit 40 Jahren ein Teil meines Lebens und ich bin noch lange nicht fertig.“

Das Metal Punk Trio BAT veröffentlicht sein neues Album “Under The Crooked Claw” am 17. Mai 2024 via Nuclear Blast Records; enthalten sind auf der Platte insgesamt 13. Tracks. Zu dreien davon kann man sich vorab einen Videoclip ansehen: “Streetbanger” bei YouTube, “Rite For Exorcism” bei YouTube und – seit heute neu – “Revenge Of The Wolf“.

Sänger Ryan Waste kommentiert die Platte:

„Dieses Album entstand in dunklen Zeiten und seine Aggression spiegelt das sicherlich wider. Nick, Chris und ich hämmerten Lied um Lied in einem schmuddeligen, schimmelbefallenen Lagerhaus, um unseren Ärger über den Zustand der Welt in das zu verwandeln, was zu ‘Under the Crooked Claw’ wurde. Um den Ton für das Album zu setzen, rief ich den legendären italienischen Horror-Maestro Fabio Frizzi dazu auf, ein Intro zu komponieren, kurz bevor BATs rohe Kraft deine Ohren angreift. Während ich gleichzeitig an einem Heavy-Metal-Horror-Drehbuch mit Norman Cabrera arbeitete, teilte ich ihm einige der neuen BAT-Songs mit. Mit unserem gemeinsamen Geschmack in Film und Vision haben wir zwei Videokonzepte für das kommende Album basierend auf meinen Texten entwickelt. Das erste Angebot ist unsere Wendung einer Geschichte über einen Exorzismus, der schiefgeht, den Norman komplett an das Kreuz genagelt hat.“

BAT ist die Speed Metal-Spielwiese von Bassist und Sänger Ryan Waste (MUNICIPAL WASTE, VOLTURE), Gitarrist Nick Poulos (MUNICIPAL WASTE, Ex-CANNABIS CORPSE) sowie Drummer Chris Marshall.

Gemischt wurde “Under The Crooked Claw” von Arthur Rizk, das Mastering übernahm Joel Grind.

On their records, Welsh duo Plastic Estate is a formidable post-punk and synth-pop act that effortlessly exudes style and swagger, the kind you can swing your hips to. Their latest single, “Open Eyes,” marks a departure from their earlier flirtations with the sensibilities of Aztec Camera, Lloyd Cole & The Commotions, and Prefab Sprout. This new, suave synth-pop odyssey ventures into realms of sleek extravagance, a polished beacon of high-fidelity glamour, and the pulsating charisma of post-disco. Embarking upon a profound meditation on the nature of success and loss, one invariably arrives at one desolate and dead-end destination. A zero-sum game, where absolute triumph bestows the spoils upon the victor while rendering the vanquished with nothing. This notion can be seen as a reflection of life’s stark realities, where power, wealth, and happiness often seem monopolized by a few, yet it also invites contemplation on the transient nature of victory and the impermanence of dominance. It challenges us to ponder the ethical dimensions of competition and the true cost of winning, questioning whether the bittersweet taste of victory can truly recompense for what is lost in the pursuit.

This is the essence behind the new song The Winner Takes It All, or T​.​W​.​T​.​I​.​A. from BLEIB MODERN, one of Berlin’s best post-punk outfits. Usually found in the cavernous venues and clubs of Berlin’s underground music scene, the band, previously aligning themselves with a lineage of prestigious imprints like Manic Depression and Wave Records, now prepares to undertake a new chapter that takes root with Young & Cold Records. Ten years down the road, the French duo Tepat Huleux and Giac Di Falco—under the project You Man—are revisiting their debut EP, Restless. Their track, “Birdcage,” garnered the duo millions of plays on streaming platforms and Youtube with its fervid, steady beat matched with hazy synth patterns that have hypnotized DJs and fans for a decade. You Man’s sound is all their own, a blend of genres such as electro, new wave and disco that they’ve coined “Club Wave.”

To celebrate the achievement, You Man have revisited “Birdcage” with a slew of remixes from friends across the globe including Etienne de Crécy, pianist Des Jonquilles and Duro Records’ own Theus Mago. The Mexican producer reinterpreted the track from a simmering chugger into one with a primetime heady beat and acid accents. With underlying darkness, Theus Mago’s remix retains the mesmeric elements that the original is known for, but he has now given “Birdcage” an alternate life in the techno club.

Wir wollten einen dunklen, doomigen, düsteren Breakdown auf diesem Album und ich denke, das ist uns gelungen. Alex Young glänzt wirklich mit seinen Leads bei diesem Song. Das ist mit Sicherheit einer der härtesten Tracks auf dem Album.“

APOCALYPTICA machen da weiter, wo Mitte der Neunziger Jahre alles begann: Am 7. Juni erscheint “APOCALYPTICA Plays Metallica Vol. 2”, also ein weiteres Album mit METALLICA-Coverversionen der finnischen Cellisten.

Als dritten Preview-Song stellen APOCALYPTICA nun ihre Version von “One” mit einem Video bei YouTube vor. Die APOCALYPTICA-Coverversion enthält ein Spoken-Word-Feature von METALLICA-Frontmann James Hetfield Außerdem steuerte Metallica-Bassist Robert Trujillo wie schon zur ersten Single “The Four Horsemen” Bassspuren bei.

 “Der Text von ‚One‘ ist poetisch und wir dachten, dass eine Spoken-Word-Version ein anderes Licht auf ihn werfen würde”, sagt Perttu Kivilaakso. “Als Fan muss ich sagen, dass es unglaublich war, es endlich zu hören. Ich saß zu Hause und weinte. Meine Hände zitterten. Es war unglaublich.”

Im April teilen APOCALYPTICA  “The Unforgiven II” als Video bei YouTube veröffentlicht. Auch zur ersten Single “The Four Horsemen” gibt’s ein Video, mitgemacht bei dem Song hat übrigens auch METALLICA-Bassist Rob Trujillo.

Neben Trujillo baten die finnischen Cellisten weitere Gäste zu sich ins Studio, die Namen der Gastmusiker werden noch bekannt gegeben. Da die Tracklist bereits veröffentlicht wurde und METALLICAs “One” dort auch als Instrumental-Version aufgeführt ist, kann man davon ausgehen, dass wohl auch wieder eine Sängerin oder ein Sänger an dem Album beteiligt war.

APOCALYPTICA-Gründer Eicca Toppinen erklärt, was “Apocalyptica Plays Metallica Vol. 2” vom ersten Teil unterscheidet:

“Das Coolste ist, dass nicht wir dieses Album forciert haben, es wurde uns angeboten. Als wir das erste Album live gespielt haben, hat es so viel mehr Spaß gemacht und war so viel aufregender, als wir erwartet hatten. So kam die Idee auf, wieder etwas wie das erste Album zu machen., Natürlich können wir es nicht einfach wiederholen: Wir mussten uns selbst herausfordern und die Energie und Emotion von METALLICA aus einer neuen Perspektive betrachten.

Lead-Cellist Perttu Kivilaakso fügt hinzu:

“Wir haben nun über 20 Jahren darüber gesprochen, ein weiteres METALLICA-Album zu machen, da es noch so viele großartige Songs gibt, die wir spielen wollten! Wir haben auf den perfekten Moment gewartet, um es zu tun. Wenn ich an mein jugendliches Ich denke, das jetzt seine Lieblingssongs spielen darf, bekomme ich eine Gänsehaut!”

“Apocalyptica Plays Metallica Vol. 2” wird APOCALYPTICAs letztes Album mit Drummer Mikko Sirén sein, er hat sich nach Abschluss der Aufnahmen im Guten von der Band verabschiedet.

Die Modern / Nu Metal-Band FROM FALL TO SPRING hat einen neuen Track veröffentlicht: “Control” kann man sich als Video bei YouTube ansehen.
