Ah, the delicate dance of human nature, where the urge to help others tangos with the temptation to exploit their misfortunes. It’s a timeless reflection of our internal duality, where the desire to be a hero battles the lure of personal gain. We can be both angels and demons, often within the same breath. This struggle shapes our character: do we soothe wounds or salt them, lift others up or press them down? Each choice we make reveals our true nature, navigating the murky waters of morality and self-interest, one decision at a time.

“Mirror,’ the latest single from World, Interrupted, is a testament to the soul-stirring vision that propels the duo. Hailing from the fabled streets of Warsaw, Poland, World, Interrupted crafts industrial darkwave melodies that intertwine icy synthesizer tones, deep electronic bass lines, and hauntingly powerful female vocals, all adorned with sporadic bursts of distorted guitars. The result is a vivid melange of unnerving yet evocative music, evoking a dance in the darkness with eyes sealed shut.

World, Interrupted
Mirror, the first glimpse into their sophomore EP, When You See Me, Run, is a deep dive into personal experiences and self-reflection, blending darkwave aesthetics with modern EBM and industrial sounds, all while nodding to their rock, metal, and techno roots.

Mirror features a punchy beat with a pulsating bassline, merging the emotional depth with a hard modern edge. The lyrics delve into the internal struggle between the urge to help others and the temptation to exploit their misfortunes. This tumultuous battle and its impact are vividly portrayed in the accompanying video, directed by Marta Sobczyk.

In the video, we’re whisked away to a mysterious fête teeming with masked dancers, a dazzling dance-off between shadow and light, embodying the dual sides of our inner selves. The masquerade stands as a cheeky metaphor for the masks we don daily, concealing our true intentions and desires. The dancers move with a haunting grace, their fluid motions echoing the ebb and flow of our moral dilemmas.

Stark lighting casts dramatic shadows, highlighting the duality within us all. As the beat ramps up, so does the tension between our better angels and our more mischievous demons. Each dancer represents a piece of this inner turmoil, swirling in a ballet of deceit and honesty. The pulsating bassline thumps like the heartbeat of this struggle.

As the video unfolds, the lines between the dancers blur, illustrating how our choices often merge and overlap, leaving us in a murky moral middle ground. The party transforms into a battleground where our higher selves duke it out with our darker instincts, a poignant reminder of the ongoing struggle to balance empathy with self-interest.

Ultimately, Mirror not only captivates with its artistry but also challenges us to reflect on our own internal battles, urging us to confront the shadows within and strive for a more compassionate existence.

The duo released their debut EP Deception, Follow Me in 2021 via Detriti Records. It earned them a performance at Castle Party, Central Europe’s biggest dark independent festival, as well as numerous club shows across Poland, including supporting Harsh Symmetry.

Two of the songs on When You See Me, Run have Polish lyrics, as the band tries to show their cultural heritage. The album is out on June 15th via Detriti Records.

Die Death Metal-Band VANHELGD hat mit “Atropos Doctrina” ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist das sechste Album der Schweden und folgt auf das 2018er-Album “Deimos Sanktuarium” nach.

“Sechs Jahre voller Pandemien, Krisen und Kriege sind vergangen, seit wir das letzte Mal den drohenden Untergang der Menschheit angekündigt haben. Vieles und nichts hat sich geändert. Tragödie, Ekstase und Untergang sind immer noch unsere ständigen Begleiter, und das Zeitalter der Menschheit kriecht unermüdlich dem Ende seines Weges entgegen”, kommentiert die Band.

“Atropos Doctrina”, das trotz lateinischem Titel mit Tracks in der schwedischen Muttersprache der Band aufwartet, wurde von Magnus “Devo” Andersson in den Endarker Studios produziert und mit einem Cover-Artwork von Gitarrist und Sänger Mattias Frisk ausgestattet. Release-Termin ist der 12. Juli 2024 via Dark Descent Records. Vorab gibt es den Track “Kom dödens tysta ängel” zu hören.

Pixies, a legendary band summoned into existence in 1986 in Boston, are renowned for their dynamic sound and surreal lyrics. The original lineup boasted Black Francis (vocals, guitar), Joey Santiago (guitar), Kim Deal (bass, vocals), and David Lovering (drums). Their early work laid the very foundation for ’90s alternative rock. After a dramatic disbandment in 1993, the Pixies made a triumphant return in 2004, with Paz Lenchantin stepping in for Kim Deal. Now, Pixies have returned once again with a surprise double A-side 7-inch single, coinciding with the launch of their North American co-headlining tour with Modest Mouse and Cat Power. This marks their first recording with new bassist Emma Richardson, formerly of Band of Skulls, who has stepped into Paz Lenchantin’s shoes earlier this year. It’s a delightful mix of old magic and new beginnings.

You’re So Impatient is an original number that the band describes as “an explosive two-minute, nine-second zombie attack at the mall.” There’s also a lot of disappointments mentioned, but Black Francis ain’t one of them. He still has it, his trademark shriek slightly toned down here, but still packing a punch. It’s a brilliant play on the concept of a dead mall, a nod to Dawn of the Dead, and the ideal soundtrack for when the zombies simply can’t wait for their retail serotonin boost. Blast this when you need a pick-me-up that’s more potent than slurping down a frosty Orange Julius with an Auntie Anne pretzel. (Mead’s overrated, anyway.)

Que Sera Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be) first waltzed into the world via Alfred Hitchcock’s 1956 film The Man Who Knew Too Much, starring Doris Day and James Stewart. Warbled by Day, the tune swiftly became a hit and one of her signature songs. Penned by the dynamic duo of Jay Livingston and Ray Evans, it even snagged a 1956 Oscar for Best Original Song.

The lyrics, with their whimsical embrace of future uncertainties, gave us the catchy chorus, “Que sera sera, whatever will be, will be,” which became an enduring cultural catchphrase. Its charm didn’t fade with time, finding its way into numerous films and TV shows, cementing its status as a classic. Now, Pixies (known to turn a Spanish phrase or two throughout their discography) offer their take on this timeless tune, originally recorded for the soundtrack of From. Doris Day’s carefree croon has been replaced with a more resigned, even eerie, minor chord melancholy.

Both tracks will also be available on limited-edition 7-inch vinyl on July 19th.

Die Progressive / Post-Metal-Band EVA CAN´T hat mit “Emisferi” ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist das fünfte Album der Italiener aus Bologna und soll im 20. September 2024 via My Kingdom Music erscheinen. Das Cover-Artwork stammt von Helios Pu.

“Es ist ein Konzeptalbum, das von einer Reise von Pol zu Pol entlang eines völlig unbewohnten und unbewohnbaren Planeten Erde handelt”, erklärt die Band. “Die Platte ist in zwei Abschnitte (Süd- und Nordhalbkugel) und jeweils in zwei weitere Unterabschnitte (Land und Wasser) unterteilt. Jeder dieser vier Teile wurde in einem anderen Stil geschrieben, zu verschiedenen Zeiten und an verschiedenen Orten aufgenommen, und jeder hat seinen eigenen spezifischen und raffinierten Klang.”

Es ist der erste Release des norwegischen Duos, welches aus Gitarrist Steinar Aven (NATTVERD, NOXIUM FERUS) und Drummer Arne Gandrud (NOXIUM FERUS, MAUSOLEUM OF DEATH, MASSEMORD) besteht. Das Duo schickte sich jedoch an, ganz viele Gäste zu den Albumaufnahmen zu laden: alleine bei den Vocals bekommt man Nag (TSJUDER), V`gandr (HELHEIM, TAAKE), Doedsadmiral (NORDJEVEL, DOEDSVANGR), Stud Bronson (THE BATALLION, OLD FUNERAL, BÖMBERS), Skagg (DEATHCULT, GAAHLSKAGG, ex-TAAKE), Thomas Eriksen (MORK), Stig Ese (SLEGEST, ex-VREID), Balfori (LUNARIS, SYSTEM:OBSCURE), Dolgar (THE DEVIANT, GEHENNA), Thomas S. Øvstedal (COR SCORPII) und Roger Olsen (AVENTYR, RABID HOOD) zu hören.

“Steinras” wurde mit einem Cover-Artwork von Jannicke Wiese-Hansen ausgestattet. Vorab gibt es den Opener “En Kald Død” zu hören.

Die Sci-Fi Tech Death Metal-Band WORMED hat mit “Omegon” ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist das vierte Album der Spanier aus Madrid und setzt die Geschichte von Krigshu fort, einem Zeitlinien-Hacker, der in die Manipulation durch kosmische Kräfte verwickelt ist. Krigshu kämpft darum, die Geheimnisse von Omegon, einer mysteriösen kosmischen Substanz mit ultimativer Macht, zu entschlüsseln. Reinhören kann man ab sofort in die zweite Single “Protogod” bei YouTube.

“Omegon” wurde gemeinsam mit Ekaitz Garmendia in den BlackStorm Studios in Karrantza aufgenommen und von Colin Marston gemixt und gemastert. Release-Termin ist der 5. Juli 2024 via Season of Mist. Vorab gibt es zum Opener “Automaton Virtulague” einen Video-Clip.

Much like Dante’s search for his beloved Beatrice, from the Inferno to Paradiso, this ethereal enchantment is beautifully captured in Curses’ new single, the seven-minute opus, “Another Heaven.”

Curses, also known as Luca Venezia, conjures cinematic New Wave, weaving the baroque vibes of 1980s goth and melancholic Post-Punk with bass-heavy, high-energy electronic music. Another Heaven will have you floating from the dance floor to the afterlife, a synth-pop liturgy with freestyle flourishes. Luca’s vocals, practically a Gregorian chant, are accented by the ringing of cathedral bells. It’s a delightful dance of dark and light, a melodious melding of the macabre and the magical, sure to make your spirit sway and your soul smile.

The song meanders through humanity’s quest for hope and love, wondering why we seek the sun and shun the rain. It dances around a deep desire for companionship, dreams of solace, and the sweet salve of healing. Promises of perpetual support and vows to stay steadfast are woven throughout, offering a haven of comfort and unity amid life’s tempests and tribulations. With alliteration aplenty, these words whisper a profound pledge to heal the heart, ensuring that no one ever feels forsaken or forlorn in this fantastical and fleeting existence.

“This is a love song dedicated to the lost ones, a ballad for the lost ones to belong,” says Luca. “We are always searching for that immortal love, divine romance, a truth to our mystery, and when we find it, we can only assume, this creature so perfect so made for you must be from an ethereal unknown place. Beyond what we’ve ever understood before. A saving love unearthly. As a teenager in NYC, I grew up listening to a lot of Latin freestyle music, as well as goth and synth wave music. When I discovered Book of Love, it was like a revelation. A band somehow found this beautiful blend of the somewhat polarizing opposite scenes of romantic electronic music, and to this day play such a huge influence on my production and playing.”

Die Death Metal-Band NOROTH hat mit “Adorned in Rotting Flesh” einen Video-Clip ihres kommenden Albums “Sacrificial Solace” veröffentlicht. Es ist nach “It Dwells Amongst Us” (2020) und “Harbinger” (2021) das dritte Album der US-Amerikaner aus Seattle.

“Sacrificial Solace” wurde gemeinsam mit Nick Emard im 7 Hills Studio aufgenommen, von Greg Wilkinson gemixt und von Dan Lowndes gemastert. Das Cover-Artwork stammt von Thomas “Necromaniac” Westphal. Release-Termin ist der 7. Juni 2024 via Carbonized Records. Vorab gibt es auch den Opener “Black Serpent” zu hören.

“Wir wollten, dass der Anfang des Albums so klingt, als würde man das Tor zur Hölle öffnen und dann sofort in die Kanalisation hinabsteigen”, erklärt Gitarrist Mike. “Ich habe das Eröffnungsriff so geschrieben, dass es sich anhört, als würde man von Fäkalien zerquetscht werden. Die Heavy Metal-Band TUNGSTEN hat einen Plattenvertrag mit Reigning Phoenix Music abgeschlossen. Gemeinsam wird man am 18. Oktober 2024 das vierte Studioalbum “The Grand Inferno” veröffentlichen, den zweiten Vorab-Song “Blood Of The Kings” teilte die Formation nun als Musikvideo bei YouTube.
