Die Modern Deathcore-Band SIGNS OF THE SWARM hat mit “Borrowed Time” ein neues Musikvideo veröffentlicht. Die Nummer ist wie die vorherige Single “DREAMKILLER” dem aktuellen Album “Amongst The Low & Empty” entnommen.

Zuletzt veröffentlichten die US-Amerikaner im Sommer 2023 mit “Malady” ein Musikvideo bei YouTube. Das Track folgte auf “Tower Of Torsos”, das ebenfalls vom neuen Album “Amongst The Low & Empty” stammt, welches am 28. Juli 2023 via Century Media erschienen ist.

Den Titeltrack “Amongst The Low & Empty” hatte man im April 2023 samt Musikvideo bei YouTube geteilt. Produziert wurde die Platte von Joshua Travis gemeinsam mit Josh Schroeder, der auch den Mix übernahm. Die Formation kommentiert das Stück wie folgt:

“Wir sind sehr erfreut, ‘Amongst the Low & Empty’ zu veröffentlichen. Dieser Song repräsentiert ein Thema, das wir seit ein paar Jahren entwickelt haben und endlich mit Hilfe von Josh Schroeder zum Leben erwecken konnten, mit zusätzlicher Produktion von Joshua Travis. Wir wollten etwas erschaffen, das dich von Anfang bis Ende mitreißt, kein Bullshit, einfach nur heavy.

Wir wussten, dass wir das geschafft haben, als unser Manager beim ersten Hören laut über einen Teil des Breakdowns gelacht hat. Wir hoffen, ihr headbangt und/oder lacht mit uns.”

Ende 2022 gab es darüber hinaus den Track “Unbridled” mitsamt Video-Clip. Es ist der erste Release der US-Amerikaner aus Pittsburgh seit ihrem Labeldeal mit Century Media Records.

Bislang hat die 2014 gegründete Band vier Alben veröffentlicht.

CATEGORY 7 veröffentlichen am 26. Juli 2024 ihr Debütalbum, die zweite Single gibt’s schon jetzt: “Exhausted” bei YouTube.

Der Track folgt auf das Video zu “In Stitches”.  Vor kurzem hat das All Star-Projekt einen Plattenvertrag bei Metal Blade Records unterschrieben.

Laut John Bush lief das Songwriting wie am Schnürchen:

“Die großartigen Riffs von Mike Orlando und Phil Demmel machten Texten zum Kinderspiel. Bittner und Gibson rundete als Rhythmus-Tandem den Sound ab. Es fühlt sich an, als ob diese Band von einer höheren Macht zusammengestellt worden ist!  Dass wir alle Veteran der Metalszene sind, machte die ganze Sache noch einfacher.”

Die Power Metal-Band BLIND GUARDIAN hat für 2. August 2024 eine besondere Veröffentlichung angekündigt: In den Jahren 2022 und 2023 hat die Formation ihr Klassiker-Album “Somewhere Far Beyond” (1992) neu eingespielt. Das Resultat erscheint nun unter dem Titel “Somewhere Far Beyond – Revisited” auf CD, Vinyl sowie digital.

SALTATIO MORTIS haben ein neues Studioalbum herausgebracht: “Finsterwacht” ist ein Konzeptalbum, das im Universum des Pen&Paper-Rollenspiels “Das schwarze Auge” spielt. Hierfür arbeitete die Mittelalter Rock-Band mit den Autoren Bernhard Hennen und Torsten Weitze zusammen. Zum Release veröffentlichte die Mittelalter Rock-Band nun das Video “We Might Be Giants”, bei dem Cristina Scabbia (LACUNA COIL) und PEYTON PARRISH als Gäste zu hören sind.

Überdies kann man den Song “Feuer & Erz” streamen, das Video ist auf YouTube zu sehen. “Feuer & Erz” ist nicht der erste Preview-Track: Auch ein Clip zu “Schwarzer Strand” steht bei YouTube auf Abruf bereit – es ist eine Zusammenarbeit mit der Pagan-Folk-Gruppe FAUN. Zum neuneinhalbminütigen Titeltrack gibt es auch ein Video bei YouTube. Zu hören ist hier Gastsänger Hansi Kürsch (BLIND GUARDIAN).

Bei der “Finsterwacht” handelt es sich um eine Kette von Wachtürmen in Aventurien, dem Fantasy-Universum, in welchem “Das schwarze Auge” angesiedelt ist. Neben dem Album erscheint auch ein Roman sowie eine Rollenspiel-Kampagne zum namengebenden Szenario.

SALTATIO MORTIS selbst haben für “Finsterwacht” mit dem “The City Of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra” zusammengearbeitet, um ausgewählte Stücke zu untermalen. Außerdem steuern Hansi Kürsch (BLIND GUARDIAN), PEYTON PARRISH, FAUN und Cristina Scabbia (LACUNA COIL) Gastbeiträge bei.

“Finsterwacht” erschien am 7. Juni 2024 auf CD, Vinyl sowie digital. Außerdem ist Sammelbox erhältlich, die neben der CD-Fassung im Digipack auch Autogrammkarten, den Roman “Die Feuer der Finsterwacht”, ein Würfelset sowie den Rollenspielband “Der letzte Sieg der Schwänin” enthält. In Letzterem ist Sänger Alea als reisender Barde als spielfertiger Charakter enthalten.

In a world where rapid technological progress and changing social dynamics often make traditional systems and values feel outdated, there’s a fierce drive to dismantle and reconsider established norms. Berlin’s XTR HUMAN doesn’t merely challenge these old structures—they shatter through Brutalist concrete walls with a primal scream. This isn’t just rebellion; it’s a calculated overthrow of the status quo.

Johannes Stabel delivers a compelling performance in his native German on his latest album, Schrank. His powerful vocals, forceful bass, and intense EBM blend coldwave roots with a fierce, contemporary edge. Schrank boldly confronts societal biases, encouraging listeners to harness their personal power and pursue their ambitions. This album serves as a potent catalyst, prompting self-reflection and inspiring fans to take bold actions. It’s a record that ignites movement…and commands attention.

Opening strong with Frust, the lyrics describe the stereotypical behavior and mindset of “boomers,” highlighting their attachment to outdated values, confusion, and awkwardness. They feel misunderstood by the younger generation and struggle with modern changes. Reflecting on their past and facing a critical future, they worry about societal decay and turn to radicalized online communities.

Schrank describes a stereotypical, orderly lifestyle where people value their living rooms, raise children in suburban homes, and emphasize material possessions like cars and wardrobes. They follow traditional values, seeking stability and status symbols, but this way of life is portrayed as toxic. The recurring theme is that order and possessions dominate their lives.

I Want More depicts a person driven by insatiable hunger and thirst for more, acting without remorse or scruples. They exploit others for personal gain, driven by greed and desire. They aim to profit from both rich and poor, manipulate the system, and always get what they want, symbolizing relentless ambition and selfishness.



The so-called “dream life” takes center stage in Neid, where high salaries and hard work impress the crowd. They flaunt a Rolex and a savings plan inherited from their parents, feeling invincible as their wealth shields them from hardship. Indifferent to others’ struggles, they perceive only envy in the eyes around them.



Berlin plunges into the feeling of entrapment and overwhelm, a system closing in and ambitions dying as the nightmare escalates. As the abyss draws nearer, the need for escape becomes clear. The relentless struggle for success builds pressure to a breaking point, leading to an inevitable explosion.

Next comes Beton, which celebrates the hard work of strong individuals in construction, emphasizing the importance of concrete and steel in building stable, enduring structures. The repeated focus on concrete as “grey gold” symbolizes its value and reliability. The song highlights the belief in concrete’s power to create a better – and more orderly – future.

A high-energy techno train journey takes place in EBM Train: with relentless beats at 130 BPM, the train never stops, turning every destination into a rave party with powerful bass and unstoppable energy.

Übeltäter is all about the psychopathy of aggression and violence. Emphasizing physical conflict over intellectual solutions, they question whether one is a victim or the aggressor. Violence is portrayed as a method to solve problems, though ultimately regrettable. The persona identifies as a societal outcast and troublemaker, embodying the role of a feared outsider. A chant reminiscent of a children’s game adds a sinister tone, juxtaposing innocence with the violent themes.

Finally the album ends with Letzte Chance, about the life of a party superstar, living unforgettable nights until the early hours of Monday morning. The thrill and addiction to this lifestyle lead to a self-destructive path, burning brightly but draining life. There’s an urgency to live fast, with no time to lose, and the realization that there’s no second chance.

Die Death / Math Metal-Band PARADOX RIFT hat nach dem Video-Clip zu “Grave-Snuggler” und dem Lyric-Video zu “The Sky Beneath” mit “Doomsayer” einen weiteren Video-Clip ihres aktuellen Albums “Ensnared” veröffentlicht. Der Song zielt darauf ab, einen Vergleich zwischen der menschlichen Schwäche und dem Willen zum Durchhalten anzustellen.

Das Black / Pagan Metal-Projekt KVAEN hat einen Labeldeal bei Metal Blade Records unterschrieben. Im Zuge dessen wird das schwedische Projekt von Jacob Björnfot sein neues Album “The Formless Fires” veröffentlichen. Es ist nach “The Funeral Pyre” (2020) und “The Great Below” (2022) das dritte Album der Band und wird am 21. Juni 2024 erscheinen. Ein Video zu “The Ancient Gods” soll die Wartezeit bis zum Release verkürzen.

Drei Jahrzehnte “Dark Funeral”: Die Black Metal-Band DARK FUNERAL feiert das Jubiläum ihrer gleichnamigen Debüt-EP mit einer Neuaufnahme. Die “30th Anniversary Edition” erscheint am 9. August 2024 via Century Media auf CD, Vinyl sowie digital und enthält zusätzlich auch die Originalversionen der vier Stücke.

Wie sich die überarbeitete Fassung anhört, kann man mittels der Single “Open The Gates” bei YouTube herausfinden. Lord Ahriman erklärt:

“Im Januar 1994 steckten Blackmoon (RIP) und ich unser gesamtes Einkommen und unsere Ersparnisse in eine Aufnahmesession und das Pressen von 1.000 Kopien unserer 4-Track-Debüt-Mini-CD. Eine Mini-CD, die wir auch selbst veröffentlichten.

Dass wir nun mit einem epischen 30-jährigen Jubiläum einen bedeutenden Meilenstein erreichen, ist natürlich eine große Ehre für mich und die Band. Drei Jahrzehnte schwedischer Black Metal, gefüllt mit wertvollen Erinnerungen.

Es ist nun an der Zeit für uns, über das nachzudenken, womit alles begann, eine 30-jährige epische Reise, gefüllt mit Erfahrungen und einem unzerstörbaren Band. Und um das zu würdigen, haben wir diesen legendären Songs neues Leben eingehaucht und ihnen ein ehrliches, aber modernes Update verpasst. Enjoy!”

Mick Harvey, der jahrzehntelange Ex-Sekretär des bekannten australischen Heroin-Jesus mit den schwarz gefärbten Haaren, legt rund ein halbes Jahr nach dem wundervollen Kollaborations-Album „Phantasmagoria In Blue“ mit Amanda Acevedo ein weiteres Solo-Werk vor. Zwar besteht ein großer Teil der 12 Songs wieder aus Fremdkompositionen, welche Mick Harvey sich allerdings dermaßen zu eigen macht, dass die Bezeichnung als Cover-Version viel zu kurz greift. So mischt er unter seine eigenen Songs wunderbar verschlankte Neuinterpretationen von u.a. THE SAINTS, THE TRIFFITS, OFELIADORME, Lee Hazlewood und THE FATAL SHORE. Insbesondere Neil Young’s „Like A Hurricane“ und Marlene Dietrich’s „Ich hab’ noch einen Koffer in Berlin“ sind dabei zu melancholisch entschleunigte und trotzdem funkelnd-packenden Diamanten geworden. Wie auch bei einigen Arbeiten für seine ehemaligen Band THE BAD SEEDS bilden Streicher- und Klavier-Parts das Tableau für die „Five Ways To Say Goodbye“, nur das bei ihm im Gegensatz zu seinem damaligen Chef der Hang zur großen Geste fehlt. Statt dessen wird die Instrumentierung sehr dezent eingesetzt und seine Stimme wackelt an einigen Stellen, was aber gerade auch den Reiz von Mick Harvey Gesang für mich ausmacht. Ebenso hat Amanda Acevedo wieder schönen einen Gastauftritt und die mexikanische Künstlerin wird ihn auch auf seiner Tour zum Album begleiten. „Five Ways To Say Goddbye“ ist eines dieser Alben, die Anfangs als recht unspektakulär daher kommen, sich aber langsam wie stetig ins Ohr schleichen und dort nicht so schnell wieder raus zu bekommen sind! Ärgerlich ist dagegen wieder mal, dass die Vinyl-Ausgabe gegenüber der CD zwei Songs weniger bietet bzw. diese nur durch den beigelegten Download hörbar sind. (Marco Fiebag)

But alas, beneath the surface, the pain of unfulfilled love is a constant companion, like a particularly clingy ghost who refuses to get the hint and move on.

EPICA-Sängerin SIMONE SIMONS hat mit “Vermillion” ihr erstes Soloalbum angekündigt. Für ihr Debüt arbeitete Simons mit Arjen Lucassen (AYREON) zusammen; einen Eindruck der Kollaboration verschafft das Musikvideo “In Love We Rust” bei YouTube.

Auch den Clip zur ersten Single “Aeterna” kann man sich bei YouTube ansehen. Zum Track äußert sich das Duo wie folgt:

„Aeterna ist der große, epische Opener des Albums und es kommt auch mit diesem großartigen Video, das von Patric Ullaeus gedreht wurde. Es klingt definitiv am ehesten wie Epica und Ayreon, eine Mischung aus kraftvollen lateinischen Texten mit einem Hauch von orientalischem Flair. Wir haben versucht, ein Gleichgewicht zwischen den mächtigen, bombastischen Klängen und den eher atmosphärischen Teilen zu finden. Da es der erste Track ist, den die Leute von diesem Album hören werden, ist er für uns super wichtig und wir sind wirklich gespannt, dass die Leute ihn hören!

‘Aeterna’ nimmt den Standpunkt eines Sterns ein, der kurz davor steht, zur Supernova zu werden, um zu erforschen, wie alles im Universum miteinander verbunden ist, wie ein kosmisches Netz aus Sternenstaub. Es befasst sich mit unseren tiefen Emotionen, dem Bewusstsein und anderen Geheimnissen des Lebens, die die Wissenschaft noch nicht vollständig erklären kann. Manchmal macht einem das Leben einen Strich durch die Rechnung: Die zehn Jahre Funkstille seit dem 2014er Album „Sun Eater“ waren nicht unbedingt geplant, sondern das Resultat vieler anderweitiger Verpflichtungen. Familiäre und berufliche Prioritäten lassen sich in einem Nischengenre eben nicht einfach so ausblenden. Dass JOB FOR A COWBOY nun also überhaupt zurückkehren, ist keine reine Selbstverständlichkeit – in jedem Fall jedoch ein Glücksfall.

Mit Rauschmitteln die Erleuchtung zu finden mag zunächst als lyrisches Konzept ein wenig seltsam anmuten, hat seine Wurzeln aber in der Realität, wie Frontmann Jonny Davy erklärt: Die Erfahrungen und Experimente eines Freundes spiegelten sich darin wider, so der Shouter. Eine spirituelle bis halluzinogene Reise, auf die „Moon Healer“ bereits mit seinem kuriosen Artwork anspielt, während es musikalisch zwar ebenso kreativ, doch im Grunde noch vergleichsweise gesittet zugeht.

Wobei wir das fünfte Studiowerk der US-Amerikaner nicht unter Wert verkaufen möchten: „Moon Healer“ ist ein Evolutionssprung anzumerken, der das Quartett, das sich von Ausnahmedrummer Navene Koperweis Unterstützung ins Studio holte, so gereift wie souverän zeigt. JOB FOR A COWBOY sind anno 2024 die Grenzen des Death Metal zu eng geworden. Ohne dem Genre den Rücken zu kehren, erprobt sich die Band an progressiven Anleihen und einem tendenziell offen gehaltenen Ansatz.

Realisiert wird das auch mittels des transparenten Audio-Mix, welcher den größten Trumpf der Band in Szene zu setzen weiß: Bassist Nick Schendzielos (CEPHALIC CARNAGE, NUCLEAR POWER TRIO) ist eine Präsenz für sich, die Stücken wie „Beyond The Chemical Doorway“ und dem fantastischen Closer „The Forever Rot“ zu neuen Höhen verhilft. In der Tat ist der Tieftöner ein gleichberechtigter Protagonist neben den verspielten, nicht selten technischen Gitarren. Das verleiht „Moon Healer“ Tiefe, ohne notwendigerweise Struktur aufgeben zu müssen.

Im Gegenteil, beweist „Etched In Oblivion“ doch, dass kreatives Drumming, verspulte Leads und ein oft warmer, beizeiten energischer Bass nicht in Chaos resultieren müssen. Vielmehr prägt die Stücke eine gewisse Eleganz, die wir im Death Metal sicherlich nicht alle Tage erleben. Gut Ding will Weile haben, sagt man ja auch im Volksmund: Ziehen wir die vorliegende Scheibe heran, findet sich sicherlich mehr als nur ein Quäntchen Wahrheit in der Redewendung. Mag das Leben also manchmal noch so unerwartet dazwischen grätschen: Was sind schon zehn Jahre, wenn die Rückkehr im Anschluss so beeindruckend ausfällt, wie es JOB FOR A COWBOY mit diesem Werk vormachen?

Death is the final chapter of a beloved story, regardless of whether a sequel is in the cards. Embracing mortality reveals the precious nature of life, lifting fear and anxiety. Anchoring ourselves in the present through mindfulness and gratitude turns everyday moments into something wondrous. Our legacy lies in small acts of kindness, and our relationships weave enduring patterns of love. Exploring beliefs, whether spiritual or philosophical, offers comfort, while personal reflection aligns our actions with what we hold dear, bringing inner peace. As we come to embrace the mystery of the unknown, we find liberation and a deep, soulful peace in living fully, cherishing each moment, and leaving a legacy of love with open arms and a curious heart.

One such story that explores that liminal space between this world and the next is Catacombs, the new single from Minneapolis trio Autumn. With its wintery video created by US goth legend William Faith (The Bellwether Syndicate, Faith and the Muse), ‘Catacombs’ is the first to be revealed from Autumn’s forthcoming new album, Songs About Dying. The song was inspired by a trip to the catacombs of Paris and the revelations that it birthed.

“I was blown away by the simple truths revealed in the walls of bones reaching up like great scaffolding: the miles I walk have been walked by many others who came before, and will be walked by just as many after I am gone,” vocalist Julie Plante reflects. “It represents a truth that I find comforting. I don’t personally need for there to be some greater explanation of a “hereafter”, and I don’t need a heaven. My peace comes from accepting that I am part of the natural world.” 

The sorrowful lyrics to Catacombs express a deep, eternal love that persists even in the face of death – shades of Poe permeate throughout. The lovers vow to face the end together, accepting their fate and finding peace in their unity. They reflect on shared memories and the inevitable return to the earth, embracing their connection and the cycle of life and death with acceptance and love.

Covid’s lockdown period brought a new epiphany to the theme and to the definition of love itself:  “I knew my dad was nearing the end of his life, and I was finding myself really trying to make my peace with this fragile world and my own limited time in it,” says Plante. “I was also really dealing with solitude in a way I hadn’t ever before: recognizing that we are each born alone and will ultimately die alone, and yet we are never alone. Much of the video footage was shot up north in the woods in the coldest part of winter, and that, too, felt right to me. The starkness of a northern winter landscape has always spoken volumes to me of the thin line between life and death.”

Directed by William Faith, the video is a blend of performance and metaphorical exploration through the ether. It elegantly illustrates the delicate balance of the life cycle, portraying how the artist channels this profound energy into their music. This visual journey invites viewers to reflect on the interconnectedness of life, death, and artistic expression.

Producer William Faith spoke with Post-Punk.com about collaborating with Autumn:

You’ve been a longtime collaborator of Autumn’s, since the early days when you were both with Tess Records, and have stayed closely involved with the band ever since. What is it that you feel has made your working relationship such an enduring one?

William Faith: We hit it off famously from day one, and I think we recognized that there was a definite chemistry when we worked together. They know I love their work, and that I will always do my best to make it shine for them.

What were some of your favourite aspects of working on the new single Catacombs and its video?

WF: As ever, the sheer joy of going into the song, finding the heart of it and bringing it to the fore is never lost on me. Supporting them through the recording process, bouncing ideas back and forth and the smiles that start to emerge as its all coming together is always special. The video was much more me finding creative ways to manifest Julie’s vision of the narrative; she had a strong concept in place for this, and we trekked all over the place to make sure we hit all the marks she was after, so it was a lot of shooting and then *a lot* of of work in the editing department, trying to keep it flowing but still keeping the thread of the primary narrative holding it together, abstract though it may seem. In the end, I think we did the song proud.

Autumn began as a collaboration between bassist Jeff Leyda and guitarist Neil McKay in the summer of 1992, solidified by the addition of vocalist Julie Plante in February 1994. With Julie’s soaring vocals over a rich array of intricate guitar and driving bass rhythms, they have gathered a loyal following over three decades.

After some early cassette releases, they signed to Tess Records in 1995, embarking on a long partnership with William Faith, who co-produced their debut album, The Hating Tree (1997). Sharing stages with Clan of Xymox, Faith and the Muse, Switchblade Symphony, Lycia, The Wake, and Sunshine Blind, they released their second album, Return to the Breath (2000).

Denke ich an die Faröer, so schwappt von der gefühlt im Nirgendwo liegenden und recht kleinen Inselgruppe nicht allzu viel (für mich relevantes) musikalisches Material aufs Festland rüber. Spontan fallen mir tatsächlich nur TÝR ein. Verrückt, dass es die von dort stammende Sopranistin Eivør Pálsdóttir geschafft hat, einen Vertrag beim bekannten Label Season Of Mist zu unterschreiben. Verrückt insofern, als EIVØR alles, aber keinen echten Metal, macht. Zur Erinnerung: Beim genannten Label stehen auch Bands und Projekte wie ABBATH, AUÐN, CARACH ANGREN, SAOR u.v.m. unter Vertrag – also zeitweise eher weniger ruhige Artists.

Für mich ist das interessant, da ich die als eine der einflussreichsten und kreativsten nordischen Musikerinnen gehandelte Komponistin bereits als Support von WARDRUNA in Berlin erleben durfte. Damals hinterließ sie einen bleibenden Eindruck bei mir. Umso gespannter war ich also, als ich von ihrem mittlerweile zwölften Studioalbum “ENN” erfahren habe, welches am 14. Juni 2024 veröffentlicht werden soll.

Zwar bedient sich EIVØR vieler elektronischer Elemente, kehrt dennoch, wie früher schon, spür- und hörbar zu klassischer Musik zurück. 

Hinzu kommt ihre so überragende Sopranstimme, die sie während ihrer Karriere entwickelte. Aktiv ist und war sie bereits in Genres wie Jazz, Folk, Ethnopop, Trip-Hop, Klassik und sogar Kirchenmusik. Pálsdóttir selbst meint, sie hatte nie das Gefühl, in irgendeine Schublade zu passen, da sie es einfach “auf ihre Art machen müsse”. Die Farörer sind ein Land voller Kontraste, so auch die Musik, die die Künstlerin dem Hörer serviert.

Zusätzliche Bekanntheit erlangte die als “Faröische Björk” bezeichnete Musikerin erst kürzlich, als sie für das Spiel “God Of War” und die Serie “The Last Kingdom” Soundtracks komponierte.

Um bei ENN gänzlich “frei zu schreiben”, wie sie selbst sagt, zog sich die Färingerin zum Komponieren, zusammen mir ihren Partner Tróndur Bogason, in ein kleines faröisches 50-Seelen-Bergdorf namens Tjørnuvík zurück. Eigentlich mehr als Side-Project gedacht, betrat man doch eher ungewöhnliche Pfade, wurde bereits während des Songwritings klar, dass hier mehr entstand, als nur ein schlichtes Seitenprojekt. Der erste Track, an dem Pálsdóttir dort arbeitete, wurde zum melancholischen Schlussstück von ENN, “Gaia”, welches EIVØR als “eine Liebeshymne an die Erde” bezeichnet. Auf besagter Reise schrieb EIVØR auch den Opener von ENN, “Ein Klóta”, ein Lied darüber, wie man die Welt aus der Ferne betrachtet, während sie sich verändert. “Ich hatte das Gefühl, ein Konzeptalbum zu machen, in gewisser Weise über die Erde, über unser Zuhause, unseren Planeten.” 

Schon beim ersten Hören dachte ich: “Wow, das ist echt groß! Lässt man sich jedoch intensiver auf die einzelnen Stücke ein, zeigt sich die unglaubliche Raffinesse, mit der EIVØR zu Werke gegangen ist.

“Ein Klóta” startet direkt mit progressiv gespieltem Piano, später orchestral, in Kombination mit dem kompletten Sopran-Stimmrepertoire EIVØR’s. Stark mit Hall unterlegt scheint ihr Gesang wie aus fernen (Traum-)Welten zu erschallen. Von Beginn an fesselnd! 
“Jarðartrá” hingegen wartet mit dunklen, elektronischen Beats auf. Dieses Stück wirkt, rhythmisch, wie es ist, beinahe hypnotisch. 
“Hugsi Bert Um Teg” ist sehr poppig, schneller im Rhythmus. Akustisch eine sehr positive Atmosphäre verströmend, steigert sich Pálsdóttir sehr in ihren Gesang rein. 
Geht es bei “Purpurhjarta” anfangs ruhig zu (man bedient sich hier anfangs, als dominierendes Instrument gespielt, dem Piano – später setzen auch Streicher ein), steigert sich das Stück zum letzten Drittel hin in tatsächlich filmreife Klangpassagen. 

Der Namensgeber des Albums “Enn” ist das für mich fesselndste Stück des Longplayers. Ein tolles, einminütiges Intro, aufgebaut nur mit EIVØR‘s Stimme. Später basslastige Beats. Rhythmisch, weltfern, verträumt. Einfach umwerfend. 
“Lívsandin” klingt für mich wie der perfekte Soundtrack, um nachts über die Autobahn zu tingeln, die Gedanken schweifen zu lassen und einfach nur in die Musik einzutauchen.  
“Upp Úr Øskuni” steht im krassen Gegensatz zum bisher Gehörten. Finster, schroff klingende elektronische Elemente, untermalt vom zeitweise beinahe an Black Metal erinnernden gutturalen Gesang der bisher so harmonisch klingenden Musikerin. Ab ca. der Hälfte wird das Stück beinahe laut, als sich verschiedenste Instrumente und musikalische Einflüsse treffen, überschneiden und eine majestätische Wand, gebaut aus Ton, Atmosphäre und Energie erschaffen. 

Mit dem letzten Stück “Gaia” kommt man schon zum letzten Werk des Albums. Und wieder betritt EIVØR neues Terrain. Man stelle sich vor, Enya (May It Be – Herr Der Ringe) hat einen Gastauftritt bei der sehr erfolgreichen Band SIGUR RÓS aus Island. Muss man gehört haben. Mehr gibt’s dazu nicht zu sagen. Einfach fantastisch!

EIVØR hat nach dem Video zu “Jardartra” und dem Clip zu “Hugsi Bert Um Teg” eine dritte Single von ihrem kommenden Album “ENN” veröffentlicht: “Upp Úr Øskuni” bei YouTube. Das neue Album der Solo-Künstlerin von den Färöer Inseln wird am 14. Juni 2024 via Season of Mist erscheinen. Alle acht Lieder sind auf Färöisch gesungen und die meisten Texte wurden mit dem färöischen Dichter Marjun Syderbø Kjelnæs geschrieben.

“ENN” wurde gemeinsam mit Theodor Kapnas im Studio Bloch aufgenommen und gemixt und von Robin Schmidt gemastert.

EIVØR wird im Oktober 2024 zudem gemeinsam mit SYLVAINE durch Europa touren (siehe News).

LINDY-FAY HELLA & DEI FARNE hat mit “Furnas” einen weiteren Video-Clip von ihrem neuen Albums “Islet” veröffentlicht. Das Video wurde in “Bergen Kjøtt” aufgenommen, einem alten Industriegebäude in Bergen, das landesweit für seine kulturellen Veranstaltungen bekannt sei. Lindy-Fay Hella und Roy-Ole Førland wählten diesen Ort gezielt aus, da er zwei starke Gefühle des Songs repräsentiert: Kälte und Einsamkeit.

Zuvor ist mit “Low Water” ein Lyric-Video erschienen – ein Lied über die Kraft der Gezeiten, die Macht des Mondes und den dunklen Himmel, den er tragen kann.

“In “Low Water” geht es in gewisser Weise um die Faszination von Ebbe und Flut und wie der Mond und das Wasser zusammenspielen. Aber auch, wie sich Dinge offenbaren, wenn sich das Wasser zurückzieht. Dinge, von denen man nicht wusste, dass sie da sind, kommen plötzlich zum Vorschein. Das ist faszinierend und manchmal auch beängstigend zugleich. Als ich dieses Lied aufnahm, “sah” ich einen Vollmond, einen dunklen Himmel und einen Strand. Ein mysteriöser Ort”, erklärt Lindy – Fay.

Davor ist mit “Whisper” die erste Vorab-Single erschienen.

“Es geht um die Geschöpfe dieser Welt. Diejenigen, die wir manchmal um uns herum spüren können, aber nicht unbedingt sehen. Die in der Natur leben. Die Trolle, die Feen, die mythischen Wesen. Jede Kultur hat Geschichten über sie und Vorschläge, wie man mit ihnen umgehen kann oder nicht. In unserer gierigen Zeit, in der die kalten Hände des Kapitalismus alles an sich reißen, was in Sicht ist, ist die Existenz dieser Kreaturen bedroht”, warnt Lindy-Fay.

“Islet” ist nach “Seafarer” (2019) und “Hildring” (2021) das dritte Album von LINDY-FAY HELLA (WARDRUNA), die erneut mit Roy Ole Førland zusammengearbeitet hat. Die Drums spielte Sondre Veland ein. Erschienen ist das Album am 8. März 2024 via By Norse.

Phoenix, Arizona’s glamourous darkwave outfit Tassel, comprised of YZBL, May Winterhalt, and Ashly X, emerges from latex-clad spiders spinning a tangled web of fear and intrigue and a quest for authenticity, with a dynamic sound and vision unparalleled and unmatched in the international scene. The band delights in the obscure and the experimental, fearlessly integrating distinctive sonic elements. With razor-sharp synths and pulsating industrial, punk, and dance beats, Tassel expertly melds harsh grit with hypnotic rhythms, creating an ethereal spectacle for modern times.

Their latest track, “V. Crawling,” offers a tantalizing glimpse into their forthcoming debut record, A Sacrifice: Unto Idols, set for release on September 6th. The release also features remixes by Lana Del Rabies and Black Light Smoke.

The song explores themes of suffering and self-abasement, marked by betrayal and physical pain. It speaks of relentless falls and the arduous crawl along a familiar path, where deep anguish and a bitter past linger. Innocence is tarnished, and the search for release from torment leads to a bleak yet serene acceptance of despair. It has a dark and funky vibe reminiscent of early Wax Trax and Cabaret Voltaire.

The video is a bizarre experimental short (at times bringing to mind Peter Murphy in the opening sequence of The Hunger) filmed by Ashly X, May Winterhalt, YZBL, and Cam Smith. Where is this dripping, cold terror dungeon in which they perform? Some things are better left a mystery.

The vasum snail, a fascinating predator in the marine world, prowls the tropical and subtropical waters with tactical elegance. It wields its radula, a finely-honed tooth-like structure, to snare and devour prey, primarily other mollusks and small marine creatures. This snail’s predatory instincts are crucial, maintaining ecological balance and weaving itself into the marine food web.

Inspired by this tenacious creature, Detroit’s VAZUM, formed by Zach Pliska and Emily Sturm, brings a similar intensity to their craft. From their Light Echo Studio, they’ve produced a series of albums and music videos, forging a path with their unique “deathgaze” sound. Their commitment to their art has earned them a devoted following, drawn to their distinctive style and bold aesthetic.

Today, the duo released a scorching new album, Western Violence, which draws inspiration from their experiences touring the Southern US, the UK, and France. This album as a whole is a raw, unflinching commentary on some of society’s darkest corners.

The title track, Western Violence, strikes hard, painting a stark portrait of drug addiction’s grim reality. It delves into the scourge of various substances and the fatal grip of overdoses. With pointed criticism, they take aim at the powerful pharmaceutical companies and the unchecked violence that firearms propagate.

Breach depicts a dystopian world where individuals are erased and subjugated by an oppressive regime fueled by automation and artificial intelligence. Emotions and humanity are rendered obsolete, with technology exerting control through manipulation, mind control, and alternate realities. Amid this bleak landscape, a resilient inner force resists, but the dominant theme is systematic cleansing, indefinite imprisonment, and pervasive hostility, highlighting the inescapable conflict between the organic and the mechanized.

Alien explores themes of existentialism and human insignificance, contrasting our earthly struggles with the vastness of space. They critique social inequality, highlighting the suffering of others while some indulge. The idea of being “aliens” underscores a sense of disconnection and the hope for a place without borders or divisions. Following that is Embryo, which addresses themes of control and manipulation by powerful entities, stripping individuals of free will and autonomy. They highlight the invasive surveillance and exploitation, reducing people to mere commodities.

The loss of innocence and purity takes center stage in Get Out, highlighting a world tainted by curses and deceit. It rejects manipulative drama and insincere pleas for money, emphasizing self-reliance and a refusal to give in to guilt. Stellium evokes a sense of inevitable demise, likening people to drained, pale porcelain dolls caught in a dark, relentless current.

The band melds the spectral grace of the Cocteau Twins with the buoyant New Wave energy of the Go-Gos and Blondie, all while channeling the raw essence of 45 Grave and Christian Death in Blush. Sturm’s vocals, ethereal yet poignant, intertwine with the rhythm, casting an iridescent sheen over their dynamic tableau.

Done expresses a disillusionment with striving to do right and the misguided advice from elders. The contemplation of giving one’s all contrasts with the realization that righteousness alone isn’t enough, leading to a deliberate separation. Acteur paints a portrait of deceit and falseness. It critiques the superficiality of chasing thrills and fame, emphasizing the toll it takes.

The album closes with Exile, rejecting servitude and the marginalization for having a dissenting viewpoint. They describe the oppressors as egotistical trolls, reveling in their fragile thrones of shallow pleasures.

Higanbana, the red spider lily, is a flower steeped in Japanese culture and rich with symbolism. Blooming around the autumn equinox, its name translates to “flower of the other shore,” weaving a connection to death and the afterlife. Said to guide the dead to their next reincarnation, its vivid red hue captures a blend of beauty and melancholy. Often found near graves and temples, the higanbana represents final farewells and the transient nature of existence. Its ethereal, almost haunting appearance captures the delicate balance between life and death.

Tears For The Dying, hailing from Athens, GA, pays tribute to this fragile theme with Higanbana from the album In the Shadow of the Midnight Sun. The song is a poignant exploration of accepting unwanted and unexpected radical changes, whether they are our own or those of those close to us.

Higanbana delves into the challenge of embracing life’s unforeseen and often unwelcome changes. Vocalist Adria Stembridge draws from her personal experiences, recounting the heartache of watching her father struggle with dementia and witnessing a close friend’s parents battle cancer. The song speaks to the acceptance that moving on is a natural and beautiful part of life, yet it acknowledges the lingering sadness of dreams left unfulfilled. On this track, guitarist Joshua Broughton’s soaring guitars add depth, complexity, and beauty, along with the buoyant old-school post-punk bassline and iridescent synths.

Rather than viewing death as an end, Higanbana celebrates it as the beginning of a new chapter. While we remain on this mortal coil, we have the opportunity to make a difference.

In the Shadow of the Midnight Sun dives deep into the intricacies of mental health, mingling struggles and victories with reflective insights. The band’s aim is to forge a connection, offering listeners a chance to see their own mental health experiences mirrored in the music. They hope this album will contribute to the larger conversation on mental well-being, providing a means for listeners to process and relate to their personal challenges, and fostering empathy and awareness in the broader community. This is their first full-length release since 2021, out now via Classic City Vinyl/Bat-Cave Productions.

In a long-awaited return to the stage, Massive Attack delivered their first concert in five years tonight with a spellbinding surprise: Elizabeth Fraser’s haunting rendition of Tim Buckley’s “Song to the Siren.” The show at Gothenburg Film Studios in Sweden featured special guests Young Fathers and Horace Andy, but it was Fraser’s ethereal vocals on this surprise cover that stole the spotlight. Last performed live by Fraser in 2012, the track added an emotional depth to an already highly anticipated night.

Elizabeth Fraser and Massive Attack first joined forces in 1998 for the landmark third studio album, Mezzanine. Fraser’s haunting vocals elevate several tracks, most notably the entrancing single “Teardrop.” The synergy between the former Cocteau Twins singer and the Bristol-based electronic outfit results in an unforgettable fusion of her ethereal voice with Massive Attack’s dark, atmospheric sound. Fraser’s contributions to Mezzanine and her live performances of these tracks over the years have cemented their collaboration as iconic within the trip-hop genre.

Tonight, Massive Attack returned to the stage for the first time since their 2019 back-to-back shows at NYC’s Radio City Music Hall. The event, held at Gothenburg Film Studios in Sweden, marked the band’s first performance since the passing of guitarist Angelo Bruschini.

The evening’s setlist included Fraser-led tracks such as “Black Milk” and “Teardrop,” with visual accompaniments by frequent collaborator and filmmaker Adam Curtis, adding a deeper layer to the performance. Horace Andy’s presence brought life to “Hymn of the Big Wheel” and “Angel,” while Young Fathers energized the crowd with “Voodoo in My Blood.” Longtime live member Deborah Miller joined to deliver powerful renditions of Blue Lines‘ “Unfinished Sympathy” and “Safe From Harm,” Before “Safe from Harm,” 3D (Robert Del Naja) declared, “Traditionally this is a song of protest, tonight it is a song of solidarity with the Palestinian people.”

The third song performed in the set was the debut performance of Tim Buckley’s “Song to the Siren” with Massive Attack. Elizabeth Fraser had previously only performed this song live with the Cocteau Twins and solo at the Anohni-curated Meltdown in 2012 at the Southbank Centre in London, which was the last time she sang it live. In 1983, her ethereal voice immortalized “Song to the Siren” with This Mortal Coil with a single release and inclusion on the project’s first album, It’ll End in Tears, in 1984. Years later, she found a kindred spirit—and tumultuous romance—in Jeff, Tim’s son, whose own haunting melodies echoed his father’s.

LA-based collective BEAUTY IN CHAOS presents their new single ‘Diving For Pearls’, a collaborative effort with THE MISSION trailblazer WAYNE HUSSEY and CINTHYA HUSSEY, his wife and partner in their duo ARCHEOMETRE. Mixed by the legendary TIM PALMER, whose production and mixing credits include THE CURE, U2, DAVID BOWIE, ROBERT PLANT, HIM and PSYCHEDELIC FURS, this is the fourth song Wayne Hussey has fronted with Beauty In Chaos and the second single graced by Cinthya.

With an alluring overlapping-reality video, this is “a torrid earworm of a song with lots of swirling layers” from Beauty In Chaos, formed in 2018 by guitarist MICHAEL CIRAVOLO. It’s also the first taste of the ‘Dancing With Angels’ album, which will be released on July 24.

Wayne Hussey shares, “I must confess that I was getting worried that I’d never be able to write another song – ever. I was raking over all my old lyric notebooks and various word documents on old hard drives and still nada. I was bemoaning my situation to Cinthya one evening and she suggested I write about a personal situation I’d found myself in a few years back. I got my mind focused in the right direction, and while in the studio singing along to the track, I soon got the first line, with the rest following fairly easily…and quickly. It was a huge relief to have the elusive muse visit me again.”

Mit “Phrenesis”, ihrem fünften Album, haben KRATER wieder ihre Fünfjahresmarke berücksichtigt. Bis auf den Vorgänger „Venenare“ (Review hier) der aktuellen Scheibe „Phrenesis“ hatten alle diesen Abstand.
2017 durfte ich sie live auf dem Party.San erleben, da war mein liebstes Album, „Urere“ aktuell. Von diesem Album hat man sich mittlerweile etwas entfernt, auch wenn die Musik noch typisch KRATER ist.
Ihre Mischung aus rauem und modernem Black Metal kommt hier wieder klar zum Tragen und wird im Song „Once – Into The Endless Void“ sogar um Klargesang, der nach ´80er Gothic klingt, erweitert.
Nach 4 Einzählern der Snare, geht es mit „Uuugghhh“ und einem Blastbeat los, schöner Einstieg. Die knapp 5 Minuten des Openers „Hopesmoker – Celestial Apex“ sind so vollgepackt mit geilen Kleinigkeiten und verschiedenen Parts, dass mir die Zeit wie fast 10 Minuten vorkommt. Allerdings im absolut positiven Sinne!
Genauso, wie im Song „Schattengeister“ jene bei erster Erwähnung in keifender und kombinierter klarer Stimme angerufen um dann mit einem langgezogenen, tief kehligen „Aaahhhhhhhh“ gewürdigt werden. Ganz großes Kino, welches der Scheibe sehr viel Tiefe gibt, selbst wenn es nicht mal sehr auffällig ist.
Diese „Kleinigkeiten“ machen die Scheibe wirklich groß und haben sicherlich viel Kreativität und Gefühl gekostet.
Die hohen, hängenden Toms sind knackig und holzig abgemischt, wodurch sie bei einem Rollbreak (wie zu Beginn bei „Withered Hands“) stark hervorstechen und wirklich gut zur Geltung kommen, wobei die „Standardtoms“ eher dumpf und rückwärtig gemischt sind und wesentlich mehr Druck aufbauen. Noch so eine „Kleinigkeit“, die zum Schluss aber viel ausmacht.
Solche Punkte könnte ich hier massenhaft aufzählen, wie zum Beispiel einen kreischenden Schrei, der wenig prominent im Mix auftaucht, deswegen evtl. nicht mal bewusst wahrgenommen wird, aber viel Stimmung erzeugt. Ich bin geflasht!
Die Gitarren arbeiten mit vielen Effekten clean plus langsamer Phaser oder Flanger oder was auch immer, sind prinzipiell aber eher weniger verzerrt, was dem Mix eine gute Grundstimmung gibt.
Lyrisch geht es bei „Phrenesis“ um die dunkelsten Ecken der menschlichen Psyche, den Geist und das daraus resultierende Chaos. Also auch hier ganz großes Kino. Die deutschen Texte gefallen mir hingegen wesentlich besser, als die englischen.
Auch wenn es hier sehr atmosphärisch zugeht, gefällt mir die von „Urere“ wie schon erwähnt besser. Ich bin immer noch der Meinung, dass KRATER sehr viel mehr Beachtung verdient hätten, als ihnen zukommt. Ist aber halt eben auch keine einfache Kost, die beim nebenbei Hören direkt zündet. Dafür umso mehr, wenn man sich wirklich auf das Album konzentriert. Bei mir nimmt die Begeisterung von einem Durchgang zum Nächsten auf jeden Fall zu. (hendrik)

Im Tiroler Bergland hätte 2024 ein neues Open Air stattfinden sollen: Das INNFIELD FESTIVAL war vom 28. bis 29. Juni 2024 in A-6241 Radfeld (Tiroler Flachland, inmitten der Alpen) angesetzt. Nun aber haben die Organisatoren die Veranstaltung aufgrund schlechter Ticketverkäufe abgesagt. Das Ziehen der Notbremse erläutert das Team hinter dem Festival in einem Statement via Socia Media:

“Liebe Innfield-Community!

Die letzten Tage glichen einem nicht vorstellbaren Chaos aus Sitzungen, Terminen, Kalkulationen und Abschätzungen rund um das Innfield Festival!

Wir hatten uns vor über einem Jahr der Mission gestellt, im Westen Österreichs ein neues Musikfestival für Fans der Rock- und Metalmusik auf die Beine zu stellen und ein neues Zuhause in der österreichischen Festival-Landschaft zu schaffen.

Mit einem LineUp, welches es im Westen so noch nie gegeben hat, mit einem Areal, welches keine Wünsche offen lässt und mit einer wunderschönen Aussicht auf die Berge Tirols.
Uns war es auch bewusst, dass ein neues Festival Zeit braucht und nicht sofort zünden kann. Dass der Verkauf aber derartig schlecht verlaufen wird – damit haben wir keinesfalls gerechnet!

Diese Woche kam nun schlussendlich der Punkt an dem wir sagen mussten:

Ein Supergau für uns als Veranstalter, dessen wirtschaftliche Folgen wir euch lieber ersparen wollen. Auch für alle early-bird Ticketkäufer und all jene, die bereits Tickets haben und sich den Urlaub geplant haben – ein Stich ins Herz!

Wir haben es versucht, der Westen hat aber erneut sein Opfer gefordert!

Als Headliner der Festival-Premiere wurden ursprünglich PARKWAY DRIVE sowie KREATOR verpflichtet, welche das Line-up der beiden Tage anführen sollten. Neu im Billing waren zuletzt PALEFACE SWISS. Als Co-Headliner für den Samstag hat man zuvor außerdem DANKO JONES bestätigt.

Eine Möglichkeit für Nachwuchs-Acts, auf dem INNFIELD FESTIVAL aufzutreten, war zudem der ausgerufene Bandcontest. Zu gewinnen war ein Platz auf dem Billing und damit die Gelegenheit, einen der Festivaltage zu eröffnen. Bewerben konnte man sich per E-Mail, Einsendeschluss war 15. März 2024. Anschließend spielten die fünf Bands mit den meisten Stimmen am 27. April 2024 in der Coffeebar Innsbruck um den letzten offenen Festivalslot, den sich schließlich EMBRACE THE FIRE sichern konnten.

Das 2-Tages-Ticket kostete ab 159,- Euro, die Tageskarte gab es ab 89,- Euro, jeweils plus Gebühren und Versand. Bestellen kann man auf innfield.reservix.at/events. Die nächste Preisstufe startet am 21. Mai 2024.

Bis zum 27. April 2024 lief zudem eine spezielle Aktion: Käufer:innen eines Wochenendtickets erhielten neben einem kostenlosen Welcome Shot an der Coktailbar der Coffeebar Innsbruck ein gratis T-Shirt.

Die Technical Thrash Metal-Band COSMIC JAGUAR hat am 29. Mai 2024 ihr neues Studioalbum “El Era Del Jaguar” veröffentlicht; erhältlich ist die Platte auf CD sowie digital. Zum Release teilten die Ukrainer zudem das komplette Werk als Albumstream bei YouTube.

“El Era Del Jaguar” enthält acht Tracks und wurde von Sänger und Bassist Sergio Lunático produziert.

Nach dem Split von THIN LIZZY 1983 gründete Phil Lynott GRAND SLAM, unter anderem mit Gitarrist Laurence Archer (UFO, WILD HORSES). Der erwartete Erfolg und ebenso eine Reformierung von THIN LIZZY blieben aus, der irische Rock-Poet starb bekanntlich am 4. Januar ’86. Erst 2016 erweckte Archer GRAND SLAM wieder, da noch immer Unvollendetes im Raum stand. 2019 erschien das Debüt “Hit The Ground”, nun liegt das neue Album „Wheel Of Fortune“ auf dem Tisch.

GRAND SLAM verbeugen sich auf “Wheel Of Fortune” weiterhin vor Phil Lynott bzw. THIN LIZZY
So haut man uns gleich mit viel Hey You „There Goes My Heart“ um die Ohren. Ein unfassbar cooler Gute Laune Song mit typischen THIN LIZZY-Gitarren und einem Drive, bei dem man kaum stillsitzen kann. Der wird bei „Starcrossed Lovers“ noch eindringlicher, catchy, fast poppig, genau wo auch Lynott hin wollte. Der hatte 1984 auch „We Come Together (In Harlem)“ geschrieben, was deutlich zeigt, wohin damals die musikalische Reise gehen sollte. Bisher offiziell unveröffentlicht haben echte Fans das Demo vom Original, das sehr poppig und auf den amerikanischen Radiomarkt schielend klang. Gitarrist Arcer hat den Song überarbeitet und erweitert und daraus einen knackigen Rocker gemacht.

So wird der Gute Laune-Pegel hochgehalten, immer kraftvoll, immer eingängig und immer wieder mit deutlichen, aber nicht zu platten Verweisen Richtung Lynott bzw. THIN LIZZY. Oft kommt eine gute Portion 80er Stadionrock dazu, da passt auch eine kitschig-schöne Ballade wie „Feeling Is Strong (Jo’s Song)“. Mit dem wütenden „Spitfire“ lässt man es wieder energisch, fast heavy rocken. Man bekommt direkt Lust, die letzten LIZZY-Alben „Renegade“ und „Thunder And Lightning“ mal wieder aufzulegen. So tänzelt und schunkelt man weiter, freut sich auf „Afterlife“ mit wie auf dem ganzen Album fantastischen Leads. Der Titelsong lässt uns nachdenklich zurück, eine schöne Ballade.

GRAND SLAM halten auf “Wheel Of Fortune” den Gute Laune-Pegel hoch
GRAND SLAM 2024 leben von der coolen Stimme von Mike Dyer, der auch gern mal eine Verbeugung vor Phil Lynott durchklingen lässt. So wie Mainman Laurence Arcer gern mal THIN LIZZY ins hier und jetzt bringt. Ohne sich als Coverband einzuschleimen, GRAND SLAM bleiben eine eigene Band. Die präsentiert sich auf „Wheel Of Fortune“ mit coolen Songs mit kraftvollem Sound in einem hübschen Digipack.

Das bringt als Goodie auch noch das Debütalbum „Hit The Ground“ von 2019 mit, das noch eine deutlich größere Portion Phil Lynott mitbringt. Oft handelt es sich um Demosongs jener Zeit. „Gone Are The Days“ bringt ähnlich wie der Opener von „Wheel Of Fortune“ schöne LIZZY-Gitarren mit, Mike Dyer orientiert sich auf den Songs deutlicher an Phils Gesangsstil. Klasse „Nineteen“, voller junger Energie und Wut, da war ein junger irischer Rebell wohl auf Krawall gebürstet. Auch auf dem Debüt gab es durchweg starke Leads von Arcer, die gehören nun mal ins Umfeld von THIN LIZZY. Im Vergleich zum Original klingt diese „Revisited“ Version weitaus kraftvoller. Es wurde neu gemastert und einiges von den neuen Musikern neu eingespielt. Das tut dem Album gut.

Viele der Songs wie der Titeltrack klingen auch gern nach Phils Arbeit mit GARY MOORE bei LIZZY und danach, aber auch die John Sykes-Phase klingt gelegentlich durch. Natürlich ist Phil allgegenwärtig bei den Songs „Military Man“ (1985 auf GARY MOOREs “Run For Cover“ zu finden) und „Dedication“. Letzterer damals 90/91 als Single deutlich Richtung Mainstream schielend und anders als vermarktet kein THIN LIZZY-Song, sondern bereits von GRAND SLAM, kommt hier als echter Rocker und lädt zum Mittänzeln ein. Mit „Long Road“ gibt es eine ruhige, melancholische Ballade, „Sisters Of Mercy“ gibt Gänsehaut. Da steckt in einem Song, wofür auch THIN LIZZY standen. Melancholische Untertöne, packende Grooves, fesselnde Melodien und starke Gitarren. Es wird noch relaxed gebluest, die Bandhymne „Grand Slam“ führt uns zappelig instrumental aus dem Album, sie steht nur auf der CD-Version.

Während „Wheel Of Fortune“ trotz oder auch wegen seiner Anleihen an THIN LIZZY zeitlos klingt, so hört man „Hit The Ground – Revisited“ deutlicher an, dass hier einiges aus der Gründungszeit vertont wurde und der Nachlass von Phil Lynott das Album prägt. Schön auch am Debüt, dass es daran erinnert, nicht nur die letzten THIN LIZZY-Alben rauszuziehen. Echte Oldies wie „Sitamoia“ oder „Babyface“ wollen auch mal wieder aufgelegt werden.

Was GRAND SLAM machen ist klasse, sie sollten mit „Wheel Of Fortune“ zweifelsfrei auch abseits der Phil Lynott/Thin Lizzy-Fans die verdiente Aufmerksamkeit bekommen
Eine Bremse am Erfolg von GRAND SLAM war damals sicher auch das Drängen von Phil Richtung Pop und Mainstream. Das war zu weit weg von dem, was seine echten Fans erwartet haben, das belegen die alten Aufnahmen. Was GRAND SLAM daraus machen ist klasse, sie sollten mit „Wheel Of Fortune“ zweifelsfrei die verdiente Aufmerksamkeit bekommen. Dass sie diese verdienen, das belegen sie auch mit ihrem Debütalbum. Wer THIN LIZZY und/oder Phil Lynott liebt und Bands wie (wenig überraschend) die BLACK STAR RIDERS, allgemein die Sachen von RICKY WARWICK wie THE ALMIGHTY oder einfach coolen zeitlosen Classic Rock, der ist bei GRAND SLAM genau richtig.

BRING ME THE HORIZON haben ihr neues Album “Post Human: NeX GEn” veröffentlicht: Erschienen ist die Platte überraschend mit 24 Stunden Vorlaufzeit am 24. Mai 2024. Jetzt hat die Gruppe ein weiteres Musikvideo nachgelegt: “Top 10 staTues tHat CriEd bloOd” bei YouTube.

Anfang Januar 2024 teilte die Band einen weiteren Song daraus: “Kool-Aid” steht u.a. via YouTube als Lyric-Video bereit. Im Anschluss folgte auch ein regulärer Clip zum Track bei YouTube. Zuvor hatten die Briten im Oktober 2023 mit dem Lyric-Video “DArkSide” einen neuen Song veröffentlicht.

Das neue Album “Post Human: NeX GEn” erschien später als ursprünglich geplant, wie BRING ME THE HORIZON im Sommer 2023 bekannt gegeben haben. Eigentlich sollte die Platte in digitaler Form bereits ab dem 15. September 2023 erhältlich sein. Da man jedoch noch etwas mehr Zeit brauche, um an Details zu arbeiten und die Songs zu perfektionieren, konnten BRING ME THE HORIZON diesen Termin nicht einhalten.

Der Ankündigung vorausgegangen war der neue Song “AmEN!” bei YouTube. Als Gäste wirken zudem der Rapper Lil Uzi Vert sowie GLASSJAW-Sänger Daryl Palumbo mit. Darüber hinaus haben BRING ME THE HORIZON auch ein Musikvideo zu “AmEN!” nachgeschoben – ansehen kann man es bei YouTube.

Zuvor hatten die Briten den Track “Lost” mitsamt Musikvideo bei YouTube geteilt. Das Musikvideo zum vorhergehenden Track “Strangers” steht ebenfalls im Stream bereit.

Auch zur Single “Die4You” gibt es einen Clip, den man sich bei YouTube ansehen kann. Das Stück war das erste neue Material seit der EP “Post Human: Survival Horror” (2020) und wohl der erste Vorgeschmack auf die zweite Veröffentlichung der vierteiligen EP-Reihe unter dem Motto “Post Human”.

Die Symphonic Black Metal-Band DARKEND hat einen Labeldeal bei Time To Kill Records unterschrieben. Im Zuge dessen werden die Italiener ihr neues Album “Viaticum” veröffentlichen. Es ist das vierte Album der 2006 gegründeten Band und folgt dem 2019er-Album “Spiritual Resonance” nach. Der Release erfolgt am 14. Juni 2024.

Nach dem Lyric-Video zu “An Ancient Plague Has Silently Worn Our Garments As Its Throne” gibt es mit “De Masticatione Mortuorum In Tumulis” nun auch einen Video-Clip.
