Wir freuen uns, das PELAGIC FEST dieses Jahr endlich wieder zu veranstalten. Ich habe jahrelang nach dem richtigen Veranstaltungsort dafür in Berlin gesucht und musste einfach akzeptieren, dass es ihn nicht gibt. Die Muziekgieterij ist ein erstaunlich gut durchdachter Ort, der sowohl den Bedürfnissen der Künstler als auch denen des Publikums gerecht wird. Es ist ein Ort, der als Veranstaltungsort gebaut und von Akustikarchitekten geplant wurde.  Gleichzeitig bietet die Venue eine gute Umgebung zum Abhängen, Plaudern, Stöbern und Chillen. Wir sind begeistert, dass es uns gelungen ist, dieses Lineup zusammenzustellen. Aber es versteht sich von selbst, dass leider nicht alle Pelagic-Künstler in diesem Jahr spielen können… aber somit haben wir etwas, worauf wir uns in den kommenden Jahren freuen können!”

Just in time for those dusky summer nights on the California beaches, Sacred Skin unveils their latest single, Waiting. Catchy and full of poppy, rhythm-driven hooks and elegantly juxtapositions of dark lyricism and genre-moulding sonics, this Los Angeles duo of Brians (DaMert and Tarney) fuses elements of post-punk and pop-infused synthwave, featuring gorgeous synths that swirl delicately but swiftly around entrancing vocals with harmonious grace and style.

“Waiting is about how life doesn’t always turn out the way you planned – especially as an artist in the modern era,” says the band. “But the song resonates with hope, with an urgency to press forward with unwavering resolve despite the uncertainties of this world. Waiting is a reminder to pursue your dreams, even at the expense of all else.”

The song is accompanied by an enigmatic and surreal video Directed by Jane Slater. It showcases Sacred Skin in the thrilling world of Los Angeles nightlife and all its unique strangeness. The video blends Michael Mann’s captivating style with the essence of The Lost Boys, with Jenna Haze portraying a mystical spirit guiding the band through trouble and adventure.

Last year marked a significant chapter for Sacred Skin as they inked a deal with Artoffact Records, dropped their haunting single Bitter Heart, and reissued their pivotal album The Decline Of Pleasure on CD.

This steady stream of singles and vibrant live performances culminated in the release of their first full-length album, “The Decline of Pleasure,” in May 2022.  Their meticulous use of iconic early digital outboard gear and samplers, like the Sequential Prophet VS synthesizer and the EMU Emulator II, gives the album a timeless studio essence.

Mit ihrem vierten Album "Warped Vision" erweisen sich PSYCHLONA als versierte Veteranen, die ihr erwartetes Meisterwerk abliefern. Die psychedelischen Stoner Rocker aus Nordengland bauen auf einem soliden Fundament aus schweren Riffs und Breakouts auf, das sie geschickt mit entspannten Vibes verstärken. Dabei besticht "Warped Vision" durch die Präzision, mit der jeder Hook genau auf den Punkt genagelt wird, ebenso wie durch die perfekte Balance von rauen Kanten und eingängigen Melodien. Die Band stammt aus Bradford in West Yorkshire, eine Stadt, die wahrlich nicht durch ein trocken-warmes Klima gesegnet ist. Der verregnete Norden am Rand von Englands rostendem industriellen Herzen inspirierte PSYCHLONA zu einer sehr britischen Variante von Klangideen, die ihren eigentlichen Ursprung einige Jahrzehnte zuvor im sonnigen Kalifornien hatten. Zum Desert Rock amerikanischer Prägung fügten die Engländer die rohe Energie des britischen Punk, eine großzügige Prise New Wave of British Heavy Metal sowie einige Esslöffel englischen Psychedelic Rock der 60er und 70er Jahre hinzu. Das Experiment an einigen heißen Tagen des Sommers 2016 übertraf die eigenen Erwartungen der Musiker deutlich und schon waren PSYCHLONA geboren. Im November wird es in englischen Städten düster, kalt und nass. Doch im Jahr 2018 ließ das sonnendurchflutete Debütalbum "Mojo Rising" nicht nur insulare Mundwinkel nach oben zucken. Damit stellten die Briten auch die Weichen für ihre produktiven folgenden Jahre. Im August 2020 veröffentlichten PSYCHLONA fleißig ihr zweites Album "Venus Skytrip", das im gesamten Heavy Rock Underground mit begeisterten Kritiken bedacht wurde und der Band ihre erste Nummer Eins auf der einschlägigen Webseite Doom Charts einbrachte. Das Zweitwerk sicherte ihnen auch zahlreiche Plätze weit oben auf wichtigen Jahresbestenlisten. Zwei Jahre später, im August 2022, stellten die britischen Stoner Rocker ihr drittes Album "Palo Verde" vor, das ihnen im Powerplay Magazine UK schon die zweite 10/10-Bewertung einbrachte. Mit "Warped Vision" sind PSYCHLONA bereit, um den nächsten großen Schritt zu gehen. Mit zwei neuen Mitgliedern an Bord bekam die Band sowohl beim Schreiben als auch bei den Aufnahmen frischen Wind in die Segel. Auch dank dieser Dynamik legen die insularen Wüstenrocker ihr bisher vollständigstes und spannendstes Album vor. Mit "Warped Vision" knacken PSYCHLONA den Jackpot!

Schon jetzt haben die Briten ein Video zu “Let’s Go” bei YouTube geteilt, die Band hat lange an dem Song gearbeitet:

“Wir spielen schon eine ganze Weile mit dem Hauptriff von ‘Let’s Go’ herum, aber irgenwie wollte der Song noch nicht so richtig gezündet”, sagt  Gitarrist und Sänger Phil Hey. “Mit einigen Änderungen wie inem einen neuen druckvollen Mittelteil und dem richtigen Text, der davon handelt, eine gute Zeit mit den Jungs zu haben, hat der Song nun den gewünschten PSYCHLONA-Vibe.”

In the international pantheon of underground synth-pop, Sweden’s KITE is a significant creative force held in high regard by both their fandom and contemporaries. Since their formation in 2008, Nicklas Stenemo’s haunting vocals and Christian Hutchinson Berg’s intricate synth work have long forged a compelling blend of atmospheric electronics and pop sensibility—carrying a sense of urgency underscored by dystopian nuances.

The compilation album “VII” by Kite features fourteen of the duo’s most profound and dynamic anthems, creating a tempest of intense, apocalyptic emotion. This release showcases Kite’s adeptness in navigating emotional extremes, from fiery intensity to the eerie calm before a storm. KITE’s music oscillates between soaring heights and profound depths, capturing both anguish and ecstasy. Their years of intense dedication and artistic integrity are evident, bleeding through the lyrics and melodies, creating moments of raw emotional truth.

KITE’s Stenemo and Berg, both veterans of the scene, joined forces in the mid-2000s. Their unique chemistry was instantly apparent. Formed in Malmö, Sweden, they soon moved to Stockholm, honing their blend of brooding synths, powerful rhythms, and theatrical vocals through a series of celebrated EPs (I through VI). Despite their rising profile, KITE has mostly avoided publicity, letting their music speak volumes. Their legendary live performances have earned them frequent festival invitations, international tours, and exclusive engagements on prestigious stages, including a recent performance at the Royal Swedish Opera, and Dalhalla, the former limestone quarry turned open-air amphitheatre.

Gird your loins: Brian Michael Henry is back, and he’s not just singing tunes—he’s flipping scripts. With his latest single, I Don’t Really Love You When You Cry, Henry is making a jarring pivot from the synth-soaked sounds of his 2023 album, If I Have To Stop This Car.

In I Don’t Really Love You When You Cry, Henry tosses aside his electronic playbook for a spotlight on his robust bass-baritone, serving up a love song that’s heavy on the irony and light on the sap:  a tongue-in-cheek serenade that’s as blunt as it is comical. Channeling an anti-hero in love, Henry draws a line at tear-wiping, offering up laughs with a side of ‘tough love’—affection with conditions, primarily dry cheeks. It’s a peppy dive into ’60s pop, and his razor-sharp wit might just have you laughing anyway. Henry presents himself as less of a shoulder to cry on, and more like a friend who steals your French fries.

As for the musical backdrop, Henry isn’t flying solo. Colin Summers, of Scrawnyman and Toys & Tiny Instruments fame, drops in with some jangly guitar riffs that might have you wondering if Johnny Marr took a wrong turn and ended up in a ’60s beach party movie. Think The Byrds meets The Smiths, with a touch of The Dream Syndicate’s edgy charm. All the while, Henry beautifully channels the soulful tones of Chris Isaak, the heartfelt croons of Orville Peck and Neil Hannon, and the straightforward bluntness of Stephen Merritt of The Magnetic Fields.

“I wanted to write a song about conditional love, and I tried to think of a very unappealing, unrealistic condition,” quips Henry.
I also thought it would be cool to write a song with an instrumental bridge.”

Visual artist Alice Teeple is in on the fun too: the photograph used for the cover was part of her Solve Et Coagula exhibit at Shelter Gallery in NYC. Henry paid a visit to the show’s opening in December, and the two heartily agreed to collaborate.

Brian Michael Henry got his start at Penn State University, earning a BA in Vocal Performance, before moving to the Big Apple to pursue a Master’s in Vocal Performance and opera. He has since established himself firmly in the New York theatre world and various touring companies. Henry’s operatic training comes through in his gorgeously resonant voice, but his traditional songwriting prowess is juxtaposed with synth-heavy instrumentation, new wave, and post-punk influences.

“I’m a pianist, so pretty much everything is written on the piano, and every song has to have a version that can exist with just voice and piano,” Henry explains. “But even while I’m at the upright, I’m hearing the version that’s electronic, or synth-driven. The cyborg version of the song. I guess all of my songs are twins.”

Die Dissonant Death Metal-Band DEVENIAL VERDICT hat nach “I Have Become The Sun” mit “Moon Starved” eine zweite Single ihres kommenden Albums “Blessing of Despair” veröffentlicht. Es ist nach “Ash Blind” (2022) das zweite Album der Finnen aus Helsinki. Die Release-Termin via Transcending Obscurity Records steht noch nicht fest.

“Das Album behandelt Themen wie Einsamkeit und Depression, eine gewisse Hoffnungslosigkeit im Angesicht eines gefühllosen Universums. Im Mittelpunkt vieler Songs steht die Sonne und die Erleichterung, die sie bringt, indem sie Licht spendet und in extremen Fällen sogar die Traurigkeit der Vergangenheit verbrennt”, erklärt die Band.

Das WISDOM TOOTH FESTIVAL geht 2024 in eine neue Runde: Gefeiert wird am 12. und 13. Juli 2023 am “Wildbachstadion” Hochstein in 86657 Bissingen. Tickets gibt es zum Preis von 82,-€ über den offiziellen Festival-Shop im Vorverkauf. Tagestickets schlagen mit je 55,-€ zu Buche.

Eine Neuerung im Vergleich zum Vorjahr ist das ausgeweitete Programm der “Babytooth-Stage” (ehemals Biergartenstage). Hier werden 2024 in den Umbaupausen nun insgesamt sieben verschiedene Acts auftreten. Angekündigt sind OVERNOIZE, OVERCLOCK, RECEIVING ECHOES, TALES OF TOMORROW, INHALED SCREAMS, WITCHES & DREAMS sowie YELLOWCAKES.

Außerdem hat der veranstaltende “Tooth Fairy”-Verein für den Vortag eine Warm-up-Party angekündigt: Gefeiert wird am 11. Juli 2024 von 20:00 Uhr bis 00:00Uhr auf dem Festivalgelände. Der Eintritt ist frei und während der Happy Hour (20:00-22:00 Uhr) kostet das Bier lediglich 2,-€. Neben Musik wird zum Zeitvertreib auch Bierpong angeboten.

Im Februar veranstalteten die Organisatoren einen Bandcontest für lokale Künstler:innen; Preis war ein Eröffnungsslot auf der Mainstage des Festivals. Letztendlich für sich entscheiden konnten diesen Wettbewerb INTERSTELLAR DUST, die nun auf dem WISDOM TOOTH FESTIVAL 2024 auftreten dürfen.

Zuvor wurden ENSLAVE THE CHAIN für das Festival bestätigt. Außerdem spielen FIDDLER’S GREEN, die wie EQUILIBRIUM ganz oben auf dem Billing Platz nehmen. Letztere hat das Open Air Anfang Dezember als ersten Headliner bestätigt. EQUILIBRIUM werden 2024 zum ersten Mal auf dem Festival zu Gast sein. Außerdem sind HIVE LEADER, SCHATTENMANN, THE PRIVATEER, DIEVERSITY sowie SOUL DEMISE mit dabei.

Schon seit Juli im Lineup sind INFECTED RAIN, die eigentlich schon für 2023 vorgesehen waren, aber aufgrund von terminlichen Überschneidungen letztlich absagen mussten. Weiterhin mit dabei sind TROLLFAUST, STONES OF JORDAN, NITROGEN sowie FRAGMENTATION.

Anfahrt, Bezahlsystem und Camping auf dem WISDOM TOOTH FESTIVAL 2024
Erreichbar ist das WISDOM TOOTH FESTIVAL am einfachsten mit dem Auto: Als Ziel für Navigationsgeräte empfehlen die Veranstalter die Adresse “Göllingen, 86657 Bissingen”. Der genaue Weg zu Park- bzw. Campingplatz ist vor Ort ausgeschildert – eine Übersichtsgrafik gibt es auf der offiziellen Homepage des Festivals.

Zugang zum Campingplatz haben ausschließlich Inhaber eines Festivaltickets. Zelten ist direkt neben dem eigenen PKW möglich. Ab 2:00 Uhr (bis 8:00 Uhr) gilt auf dem Camping-Areal Nachtruhe. Da es sich bei dem Campinggelände um landwirtschaftlich genutzte Flächen handelt, herrscht ein striktes Glasverbot. Auch für Aggregate herrscht in diesem Jahr ein Mitnahmeverbot.

Über ein Feuerverbot wird kurzfristig entschieden. Untersagt ist hingegen das Mitbringen potenziell gefährlicher Gegenstände (u.a. Waffen, Pfefferspray, Himmelslaternen, Drogen, Fackeln, brennbare Flüssigkeiten). Für Abfälle stehen entsprechende Behälter bereit – Müllsäcke werden vor Ort an die Besucher:innen ausgehändigt.

Bezahlt wird auf dem Festivalgelände ausschließlich in bar. Hierzu hat das WISDOM TOOTH FESTIVAL ein Wertmarken-System eingerichtet: Essensmarken, aber auch Getränkemarken im Wert von 20,-€ bzw. 50,-€, gibt es an der Kasse, welche anschließend an Ausschank und Wurstverkauf eingelöst bzw. abgestrichen werden können. Den Restwert sowie Pfand kann man sich bis Veranstaltungsende ebenfalls an der Kasse auszahlen lassen. Wichtig: Vor Ort gibt es keinen Geldautomaten – die nächste Möglichkeit Geld abzuheben ist ca. 1,5km vom Festivalgelände entfernt!

Sänger und Gitarrist YARIS veröffentlichte seine EP “Yaris” am 28. Juni 2024 und teilte darüber hinaus ein Lyric-Video zum Song “Abenteuer” bei YouTube.

Zuvor teilte der Musiker ein Video zu seiner Debütsingle “Fühlen” bei YouTube. Inhaltlich dreht sich das Stück um die Folgen eines Vertrauensbruchs und dem Verlangen, wieder echte Emotionen zu spüren. Der 20-jährige Musiker selbst kommentiert:

„Ein altes Sprichwort sagt: Wer nicht hören will, muss fühlen. Ich sage: Wer FÜHLEN will, muss hören!”

Live erleben kann man YARIS im Oktober 2024, wenn der Sänger auf Deutschlandtour ist.

Das IMPERICON FESTIVAL geht neue Wege: Anlässlich des 20-jährigen Jubiläums des Impericon-Shops feiert man 2025 an zwei Tagen und an einem neuen Termin: Statt wie bislang um Ostern findet das Indoor-Festival nun am 27. und 28. Juni 2025 statt. Aus der einistigen Festivalreihe wird zudem lediglich eine einzige Veranstaltung in der Halle:Eins (Neue Messe) in Leipzig.

Somit entfallen die IMPERICON FESTIVALS in Oberhausen, Wien (A), Zürich (CH), Hamburg und München ersatzlos.

Tickets gibt es derzeit zum Frühbucher-Preis von 129,90€ auf via impericon.com. Dort ist zudem aktuell auch ein auf 500 Stück limitiertes “Loyalty”-Sonderkontingent für 99,90€ erhältlich.

Die Post-Black Metal-Band HELL IS OTHER PEOPLE hat einen Labeldeal bei Transcending Obscurity Records unterschrieben. Im Zuge dessen werden die Kanadier ihr neues Album “Moirae” veröffentlichen. Der Release-Termin des nach “Embrace” (2017) zweiten Albums der Band, das mit einem Cover-Artwork von Adam Burke ausgestattet wurde, steht noch nicht fest. Vorab gibt es jedoch den Track “Fates” zu hören.

Die Black Metal-Band GRAVENOIRE hat einen Labeldeal bei Season of Mist unterschrieben. Teil dieses Deals wird der Release der EP “Devant la porte des étoiles” sein. Es ist die erste Veröffentlichung des franzöischen Quartetts, welches aus Gitarrist und Bassist Maximilien Brigliadori (BÂ’A, DIABLATION), Drummer und Keyboarder Emmanuel Zuccaro (BÂ’A, Ex-HYRGAL) sowie den Sängern Vicomte Vampyr Arkames (AD INFERNA, DIABLATION, Ex-SETH) und Nicolas “RMS Hreidmarr” aint-Morand (BÂ’A, BAISE MA HACHE, GLACIATION, THE CNK, Ex-ANOREXIA NERVOSA) besteht.

“Devant la porte des étoiles” wurde von Arnaud Ménard bei Sicarius Productions gemixt und gemastert. Erscheinen wird die Scheibe am 23. August 2024.  Mit “France de l’Ombre” gibt es nun einen Video-Clip.

Die Progressive / Post-Rock-Band LIZZARD hat mit “Mesh” ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist das fünfte Album der in Frankreich ansässigen Band und stellt Fragen dazu, wer und was wir hinter dem Schleier (“Mesh”) wirklich sind, unter dem Geflecht des Scheins, mit dem wir alle unsere Gefühle und Sehnsüchte schützen, aber oft auch verbergen.

“Mesh” wurde in einer verlassenen Fabrik aufgenommen und von Peter Junge produziert. Release-Termin ist der 27. September 2024 via Pelagic Records.

Die norwegische Dissonant Death Metal-Band DISKORD und die englische Progressive Death Metal-Band ATVM haben mit “Bipolarities” eine gemeinsame Split angekündigt.

“Bipolarities”, das mit einem Cover-Artwork von Will Sweeney ausgestattet wurde, wurde von Colin Marston gemixt und gemastert und wird am 12. Juli 2024 via Transcending Obscurity Records erscheinen. Die Goregrind-Band HOUKAGO GRIND TIME hat mit “Cruel Grinder’s Thesis” einen Video-Clip ihres kommenden Albums “Koncertos Of Kawaiiness: Stealing Jon Chang’s Ideas, A Book By Andrew Lee” veröffentlicht. Es ist nach “Bakyunsified (Moe to the Gore)” (2020) und “Houkago Grind Time 2: The Second Raid” (2022) das dritte Album des Solo-Projekts von Andrew Lee (RIPPED TO SHREDS, SKULLSMASHER), der sich auch an einer langen Liste an Splits beteiligt hat.

Das Album wurde im Heimstudio von Andy Lee aufgenommen und gemixt und von Colin Marston gemastert. Release-Termin ist der 16. August 2024 via Obliteration Records. Eigentlich sollte das neue Album von ANTLERS MULM „Fail Notes“ heißen und wurde voriges Jahr durch die EP „Anchors“ vorbereitet. Doch wie ich damals schon in meinem Review dazu vermutet hatte, ist letztendlich alles anders gekommen und „An Accurate Replica“ lässt mich leider etwas ratlos zurück. Die insgesamt 15 Tracks sind mal kurz, meist fragmentarisch, dann wieder episch ausladend, aber insgesamt gesehen ist das alles irgendwie zu lang geraten. Hans Karte hat diesmal auch über die knapp 80 Minuten ein extremes Mitteilungsbedürfnis und obwohl ich wirklich ein inzwischen schon jahrzehntelanger Freund seiner angenehmen Stimmfärbung bin, ist es mir diesmal zu viel des Guten. Die extrem zarten, feingliedrig und brüchig wirkenden elektronischen Ambient-Sounds werden bis auf wenige Ausnahmen durch den massiven Stimmeinsatz völlig überlagert bzw. zu gelabert, was mich fatal an die SLEAFORD MODS erinnert. Da diese ja eine nicht gerade kleine Anhängerschaft haben, hat das bei ANTLERS MULM sicher ebenso seine Berechtigung und man kann sich ja über Bandcamp problemlos selbst davon einen Höreindruck schaffen. Die limitierten physischen Tonträger MC und CD-R sind sowieso längst ausverkauft und „An Accurate Replica“ nur noch als kostenpflichtiger Download erhältlich. Die Zeit wird es irgendwann weisen und auch wenn ich mich bestimmt schon 20 mal an dem Album versucht habe und der Funke nicht überspringen wollte – Venceremos, ich bleibe trotzdem dran und Victor Jara ist unvergessen! Hailing originally from Byron Bay, Australia and now calling Berlin home, The Dharma Chain unveils their debut album Nowhere, released via Anomic Records. This collection of ten tracks has evolved alongside the band since their formation in 2020. Their music weaves through neo-psychedelia, post-punk, shoegaze, and rock and roll, echoing the vibes of Beak>, Slowdive, EXEC, A Place To Bury Strangers, and Dress Theque. Each song carries a dark allure—sometimes abrasive and apocalyptic, other times tender and soft. It’s a soundscape that captures the fragile balance between chaos and calm.

The writing and recording process for the album was also a journey in itself, with The Dharma Chain originally setting out to record the album in an abandoned church in the Gold Coast Hinterland in Queensland, Australia: “We brought all our own recording equipment and turned this big beautiful space into a makeshift recording studio for a precious week, during which time we wrote and recorded something like ten new tracks.”

The band soon decided to pack up and relocate to Berlin, pouring their hearts into their music. Once The Dharma Chain set foot in Europe and began performing live, Anomic Records quickly took notice. Their time in Berlin, with its exciting music scene and inspiring cityscapes, spurred a creative renaissance. The city’s pulse infused their work, leading to a fresh sound and vision. Embracing this newfound inspiration, they retreated to a basement studio in eastern Berlin, braving the winter chill—a stark contrast to the sunny hills of the Gold Coast. There, amid the frost and echoes, their new material took shape.

At the heart of Nowhere lies a poignant blend of sorrow and beauty, reflecting the essence of growth and change. Their music speaks to the relentless march of time and the choices we face moment by moment—between terror and serenity—in accepting the transient nature of all things. Whether it’s ourselves, love, objects, or a song, everything is fleeting. This delicate balance between ephemerality and the desire for permanence shapes their work, inviting listeners to embrace the impermanence and find solace in the ever-changing rhythm of life.

“The album could just as easily be called ‘Everywhere‘ as ‘Nowhere,’ says the band. “It’s that duality, that life/death, happy/sad, love/hate, us/them complexity at the core of the human experience. It’s about facing these changes, the inevitable and often brutal march of time, with some kind of peace and acceptance. Breathing in and then breathing out.”

Timelessness ushers in the album with a languid, droning chant that gradually ascends into a soaring chorus of guitars, evoking the spirits of Kula Shaker, The Dandy Warhols, and The Jesus and Mary Chain. It’s a hauntingly beautiful opening, setting the stage with a sense of dreamy urgency, pulling listeners into a world where time feels deliciously suspended. The track unfolds like a spell, weaving together influences and creating a hypnotic blend that feels both familiar and otherworldly.

2.56 is a serenade to the intricate web of lust, capturing emotions that slice through your heart like a shiv through butter: smooth, yet deadly. It speaks the language of the damned and the desperate, souls entwined in a dance too complex to untangle. Each step is a gamble on the razor’s edge of desire, a perilous waltz where the stakes are high, and the rewards are fleeting. It’s a song that delves into the dark, seductive corners of human longing, exploring the fragile line between pleasure and pain.

YSHK begins with intriguing, spacey sirens, quickly transitioning into a brisk backbeat that underscores the menacing guitar chords. The track carries a dark surf vibe, with whispering vocals that maintain an air of suspense – like stepping into a noir film set in Berlin’s nightlife, where the familiar sounds of surf rock are twisted into something eerie and thrilling.  Greenlight swirls into existence with an eerie swoop, ushered in by hi-hat cymbals that tap out a peculiar backbeat. The minor chords resonate with a sense of creeping dread, casting a haunting spell over the track. It conjures a sound reminiscent of Midnight Juggernauts, blending the uncanny with the compelling.

Standout track Her Head begins with a gentle guitar and ethereal female vocals, weaving a delicate spell. The song then layers in a distorted guitar, creating a haunting contrast to the sweetly crooned poetry before exploding into a swelling chorus. It’s a blend of the soft and the surreal, inviting listeners into a dreamlike state where melodies drift like whispers on the wind. His Head grounds us with a primal sound, featuring a droning guitar and psychedelic lyrics. It draws us into a raw, earthbound realm where the music hums with an ancient, almost mystical energy.

Riders begins with a rumble, bluesy guitars echoing over a creepy bassline. Female vocals add a dreamy touch to the eerie mood, until a pulsing synth shifts the atmosphere into retrofuturism. The vocals transform into whispered spoken word, blending the strange with the nostalgic – think Lee Hazlewood meets Debbie Harry. Next comes Clockwork, starting with an ominous organ riff that shifts into a plodding, buzzing synth over a hypnotic backbeat. It’s like a metronome from a dark realm, accompanied by minor chord guitars in a Middle-Eastern tinged duet. The result is an eerie, entrancing piece that feels both ancient and unsettlingly modern.

Somewhere shifts gears with a gentle, echoing guitar opening, evoking a sense of wistful dreaming. It’s like a whisper carried on a zephyr, featuring beautiful guitar work complemented by celestial vocals. The track feels like a delicate lullaby, drifting through the ether with a serene and haunting grace. We end the album with When We Disappear, which begins with a jangly acoustic guitar, paving the way for echoing vocals that feel like transmissions from a distant star and Indian-inspired guitar licks. The song evokes a sense of cosmic loneliness, as if reaching out across the void, blending the familiar with the otherworldly in a hauntingly beautiful manner.

Die Technical Death Metal-Band EVILYN hat einen Labeldeal bei Transcending Obscurity Records unterschrieben. Im Zuge dessen wird das internationale Trio, welches aus Gitarrist und Sänger Anthony Lipari (THOREN), Bassist Alex Weber (MALIGNANCY) sowie Drummer Robin Stone (NORSE, ASHEN HORDE) besteht, ihr neues und erstes Album “Mondestrunken” veröffentlichen.

“Mondestrunken” wurde von Jeanne Comateuse (COMA CLUSTER VOID), welche auch das Cover-Artwork gestaltet hat, produziert. Release-Termin ist der 16. August 2024. Vorab gibt es nach “Penance” und “Vacuous” nun auch den Song “Bloviate” zu hören.

ELLENDE veröffentlichen ihr fünften Studioalbum “Todbringerin” am 30. August 2024 via AOP Records. Die Platte enthält acht Songs bei einer Laufzeit von rund 50 Minuten und folgt der Platte “Ellenbogengesellschaft” (2022) nach.

Das Artwork ist ein Ölgemälde aus der Feder L.G.s und wurde von Jan Vermeers Werk “Het Melkmeisje” (1660) inspiriert.

Die Black Metal-Band UPRISING hat nach dem Opener “Eternal Mantra” mit “While the World is Burning” einen zweiten Track ihres kommenden Albums “III” veröffentlicht. Es ist – wie es der Titel vermuten lässt – das dritte Album des Solo-Projekts von W. (WALDGEFLÜSTER), der an den Drums von Austin Lunn (PANOPTICON, DÄMMERFARBEN) unterstützt worden ist.

Die Progressive Stoner Rock-Band MAMMOTH VOLUME hat mit “Raised Up By Witches” ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist nach “The Cursed Who Perform The Larvagod Rites” (2022) das zweite Album der Schweden seit ihrem Comeback. Um die Jahrtausendwende veröffentlichte die Band bereits drei Alben.

“Raised Up By Witches” wird am 23. August 2024 via Blues Funeral Recordings erscheinen. Vorab gibt es mit “Serpent In The Deep” einen Video-Clip.
