Die Heavy Rock-Band THE ELECTRIC MUD hat nach dem Lyric-Video des Titeltracks mit “Gone are the Days” einen Video-Clip von ihrem neuen Album “Ashes And Bone” veröffentlicht. Die Scheibe folgt drei Jahre nach der EP “Black Wool” und behandelt die Besessenheit der Menschheit von ihrer eigenen Zerstörung.

“Ashes And Bone” wurde von Caleb Neff produziert und von Ben Mcleoud gemixt. Das Cover-Artwork stammt von Alexander von Wieding. Release-Termin ist der 4. Oktober 2024 via Small Stone Recordings.

We are makers of masks, artisans of our own disguises, shaping and shading ourselves to be seen, accepted, or remembered. Each day, we slip into these façades, crafted with care, adjusting them to fit the world’s expectations. They are defenses and deceptions, polished to a shine, worn like armor. But when we leave this earth, these masks linger longer than the flesh, more persistent than the fragile truth of who we were. Memories and stories become monuments to our make-believe selves, echoes of what we wished to project. Yet, behind it all, the authentic soul stands bare, vulnerable, almost forgotten.

Unlettered, the brainchild of multi-instrumentalist Mike Knowlton (of Gapeseed and Poem Rocket fame), announces Five Mile Point, set for release on November 22. This album finds Knowlton joined by his wife, Kelly Grimm, as the pair cultivate their own haven deep in Southwest Florida’s indie rock wilderness. Here, far from any musical metropolis, they’ve built a world of their own—locked away in Knowlton’s studio, armed with Logic Pro, vintage instruments, and a commitment to paring down sound to its sharpest edge. For them, Unlettered is a form of survival in a landscape of creative isolation.

The lead single, Leave Behind, hints at the album’s tone, invoking the raw spirit of NYC’s 90s experimental scene. Channeling the restless energy of Polvo, Sonic Youth, and Lungfish, Knowlton sculpts distorted rhythms and angular melodies, lyrically exploring the weight of change, loss, and life’s ephemeral beauty—a vivid, driving exploration of the human struggle.

“Leave Behind dives into the personas we craft—the social masks we wear to navigate the world,” says Knowlton. “These façades shape how we are remembered after we are gone, often outlasting our true selves. The song questions how much of our legacy is built on what we chose to reveal, and how much was hidden beneath the surface.”

With three EPs to their name, Unlettered has earned praise for their hypnotic, dark-laden sound. The band, never content to rest, now lends their energy to the upcoming compilation Meat Whiplash Collected/Contextualized on Silver Girl Records: breathing fresh life into the legacy of the ’80s East Kilbride outfit, and reviving a spirit that once echoed through dim-lit venues and underground airwaves.

One senses the scars left behind, the raw ache of hearts that once beat fiercely but have now bled dry, replaced by a cold, unforgiving void. Grant Leon’s fervent, turbulent vocals draw the listener in, churning with all the ache and mania of a man gripped by heartbreak. Yet, in this painful unbinding, there lies profound liberation. The heart aches for the divine approval that once guided it, but gradually, there’s an understanding that love was never something external to be sought. The loss paves the way for the realization that spirituality isn’t tethered to dogma, but unfolds within.

Springing forth from the disciplined halls of classical music, Miss Trezz leaps headlong into the throbbing, unpredictable world of modern electronica, shattering conventions along the way. Her voice, fierce and electric, echoes the sharp energy of Phantogram and the relentless drive of Metric, yet those comparisons hardly capture her essence.

Her powerful latest single, Last Rites, created with her talented collaborator Travis Bacon, critiques the constraints of organized religion and the emotional turmoil it can provoke, culminating in a powerful declaration of individuality and resistance. The song describes a departure from religious beliefs – and the pain associated with that loss. The imagery of confession, sin, and pleading for redemption is intertwined with themes of darkness, broken trust, and a descent into a personal hell. The song captures a sense of spiritual abandonment and desperation.

Miss Trezz herself directed the Dario Argento-inspired music video, as she whispers confessions through crimson lips in a shadow-drenched church confessional. The scene shifts to a desolate beach, wild waves crashing as she dances, torn between faith’s suffocating grip and the raw freedom of nature’s untamed embrace.

Um den Deal zu feiern veröffentlichte die Gruppe ein Musikvideo zur brandneuen Single “Demon Child”, die musikalisch mit ihrem Alternative Metal-Einschlag auch neue Wege erkundet. Jetzt legt das Trio nach und hat zu ihrer Single “Kanashibari” ein Musikvideo produziert, das man bei YouTube sehen kann.

Nachdem LINKIN PARK mit ihrer Best Of „Papercuts“ einen Schlussstrich unter die sehr erfolgreiche, aber letztendlich tragisch endende Ära mit Frontmann Chester Bennington gezogen haben, fängt die Band jetzt wieder bei Null an (nicht wirklich). Statt den Versuch zu wagen, ihren nicht mehr unter uns weilenden Frontmann mit einem ähnlich klingenden Plagiat zu ersetzen, machen LINKIN PARK das einzig richtige und engagieren statt dessen eine Sängerin. Emily Armstrong, die vorher bei der Band DEAD SARA aktiv war, bringt mit ihrem kräftigen Organ völlig neue Möglichkeiten und vor allem frische Energie in das durch den Schicksalsschlag zerrüttelte Gefüge von LINKIN PARK, die aber auch die letzten Veröffentlichungen der Band leider etwas vermissen ließen. In puncto Härte und Grip gehen die 10 neuen Songs (+Intro) auf „From Zero“ wieder zurück auf Anfang ins Jahr 2000, wenn auch die damalige Überraschung der „Hybrid Theory“ nicht mehr so authentisch reproduzierbar ist. Trotzdem ballert „From Zero“ in knapp über 30 Minuten kurz & knackig nach vorn, wie die Wechsel-Gesänge zwischen Armstrong und Shinoda ordentlich Dampf im Kessel machen. Ebenso ist die Mischung aus scharf-klirrenden Gitarren-Riffs, EDM-Rhythmen und den groovigen Drums mit latenter Hip Hop-Affinität wieder in der richtigen Gewichtung, so das LINKIN PARK trotz personeller Neuausrichtung weiter in der Spur bleiben! „From Zero“ sollte daher die alten Fans locker bei Stange halten und eventuell sogar neue dazu gewinnen – verdient wäre das allemal und sicher auch im Sinne von Chester, wenn LINKIN PARK nach 25 Jahren immer noch relevant sind! EPICA haben einen neuen Song mit dem Titel “Arcana” veröffentlicht. Den Hintergrund der Single erläutern die Niederländer:

„’Arcana’ führt dich durch die universellen Stufen der spirituellen Evolution im Leben. Es weist den Weg zu einem höheren Bewusstsein und spirituellen Selbstverständnis. Das Schreiben dieses Songs war ein spontaner Prozess, daher entstand er schnell, was sich so natürlich anfühlte, dass er sich wie von selbst schrieb. Die Musik enthält klassische Epica-Elemente, hat aber auch Vibes, die einen vielleicht an den alternativen Rock der 80er oder modernen Metal erinnern.“

Der Track folgt auf das Stück “The Ghost In Me (Danse Macabre)”, das als Musikvideo auch bei YouTube veröffentlicht wurde. “The Ghost In Me” ist eine Zusammenarbeit mit dem niederländischen Freizeitpartk “De Efteling”, der am 31. Oktober 2024 seine neue Attraktion “Danse Macabre” enthüllte. Keyboarder Coen Janssen erklärt:

„Jedes Kind in den Niederlanden weiß, wie magisch ‘de Efteling’ ist, und so eng mit dem schönsten Freizeitpark der Welt zusammenzuarbeiten, ist wirklich ein wahrgewordener Traum! Als kleiner Junge war ich sofort fasziniert von der ‘Danse Macabre’ von Saint-Saëns als Soundtrack für das Spukschloss ‘Spookslot’. Als ‘de Efteling’ dann ihre neuen Pläne für die gespenstische Attraktion ‘Danse Macabre’ ankündigte, fügten sich alle Puzzleteile sofort zusammen: Warum nicht unsere symphonische Seite mit der ‘gruseligen’ Seite des Metal verbinden und unsere Version dieses epischen klassischen Stücks machen?!? Wir sind so glücklich, dass ‘de Efteling’ unserer Vision vertraut hat und uns ihre volle Unterstützung gegeben hat, indem sie uns die Geschichte der neuen Attraktion zur Verfügung stellten, damit wir Texte schreiben konnten, die zu der fantastischen Erzählung passen, und sogar ein neues Kapitel hinzufügen konnten!“

NYC stalwarts CALLA—Aurelio Valle, Wayne B. Magruder, Peter Gannon—rekindle their fire with Pick Your Battles, a song pulsing with urgency and defiance. Somewhere between Elliott Smith’s fragile strumming and the Dandy Warhols’ raw energy, it captures a world very much on edge.

Pick Your Battles by CALLA

CALLA sprang up in 1996, rooted deep in Texas grit before transplanting to the raw, restless rhythms of the Big Apple. In the pulsing heart of the East Village’s mid-90s music scene, they found a kinship, sharing stages with the likes of Jonathan Fire-Eater, Speedball Baby, and Interpol. Guided by mavericks like Kid Congo Powers, Michael Gira, and Matt Verta-Ray, they crafted a sound steeped in post-punk, garage, blues, and experimental edge. Late 1997 saw CALLA breaking boundaries, fusing vintage echoes with modern experimentation, carving their niche in Brooklyn’s alternative scene. Their worldwide tours carried them alongside The Walkmen, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The National, Secret Machines, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, PJ Harvey, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, and Cat Power.

Lately, Aurelio Valle’s foray into production and film scoring signals new creative chapters. Reuniting with Wayne Magruder and Peter Gannon, the trio channels that old magic, promising a fresh album, expected sometime next year.

HELLOWEEN feiern 2025 ihr 40-jähriges Jubiläum mit einer Tour, in Deutschland sind drei Konzerte angekündigt. Außerdem arbeitet die Band an einem neuen Album in der Besetzung Andi Deris, Michael Kiske, Michael Weikath, Kai Hansen, Markus Grosskopf, Sascha Gerstner und Dani Löble.

Bassist Markus Grosskopf erklärt: „Wir haben uns einige großartige Überraschungen für die Fans überlegt und werden neben den brandneuen Songs, die zum ersten Mal live auf die Bretter kommen, auch Tracks aus der Bandhistorie spielen, die man sehr lange nicht mehr oder sogar noch nie live gehört hat. Die Shows werden für uns alle ein fantastisches Erlebnis werden!“

Frontmann Andi Deris ergänzt: „Die kreative Arbeit im Studio macht uns unglaublichen Spaß und das Album verspricht ein absolutes Highlight zu werden – aber nichts auf der Welt ist mit einem HELLOWEEN-Konzert vergleichbar: Die Energie unseres Publikums ist einfach unbeschreiblich und wir können es kaum erwarten, endlich wieder mit den Fans Vollgas zu geben. Quasi aus dem Nichts tauchten MEDICINE HORSE auf – zumindest für uns Europäer. Auch stammt die Band nicht gerade aus einem der Hotspots für Metal. Oder wem fällt auf Anhieb eine Band aus Tulsa, Oklahoma ein? Dabei sind MEDICINE HORSE gar nicht einmal sooo Metal – viel mehr mäandert das selbstbetitelte Debütalbum der Band irgendwie zwischen Southern und Stoner Rock, bringt Doom Metal-Elemente mit ein und setzt mit kräftigen Sludge / Hardcore-Vocals einen interessanten Kontrast. Personifiziertes Kontrastmittel ist dabei Sängerin Nicole Williams, die in ihrer wutentbrannten Vocal-Performance an EMPLOYED TO SERVE-Sängerin Justine Jones erinnert. Doch hat die Frontfrau auch eine sanftere, bluesigere Seite, die in etwa im sehr (vielleicht zu) ruhigen “Letiche” zum Einsatz gebracht wird.

MEDICINE HORSE kommen aus dem Nichts und dürfen jetzt aber gerne bleiben
Instrumental hat die Scheibe Hand und Fuß, wobei die Musiker das legere Southern Rock-Feeling gut umzusetzen wissen. Doch wären die Kompositionen ohne den bereits erwähnten und gelungenen Kontrast wohl einen Deut zu vorhersehbar und einlullend (“Badlands”). Doch so, wie es ist, haben wir es bei “Medicine Horse” mit einem durchaus beachtenswerten Release zu tun, der zwar aus dem Nichts gekommen ist, aber nicht sofort in ein solches zurückgeschickt werden soll.

Die Symphonic Metal-Band VISIONS OF ATLANTIS hat “Armada Live Over Europe” angekündigt. Dabei handelt es sich um eine Reihe von Live-Aufnahmen, die nach und nach in digitaler Form erscheinen sollen. Den Anfang macht der Doppel-Mitschnitt “To Those Who Choose To Fight” und “Land Of The Free” bei YouTube. Aufgezeichnet wurden beide Songs am 9. Oktober 2024 im La Rayonne in Lyon.

Weitere Clips sollen künftig immer dienstags erscheinen.

Warum sich die Gruppe für die Veröffentlichung entschieden hat, erklärt Sängerin Clémentine Delauney:

„Diese Armada-Tournee war die aufregendste Erfahrung in der Geschichte von VISIONS OF ATLANTIS, und wir freuen uns sehr, sie mit dieser brandneuen Live-Video-Serie am Leben zu erhalten!

Egal, ob ihr eine dieser Shows besucht habt oder nicht, dies wird eine wunderbare Möglichkeit sein, das Schiff erneut zu betreten und unsere Armada-Show aus einer anderen Perspektive zu erleben!

Es ist (mit der heurigen Neuaufnahme von “Where the Gods Return”) das fünfte Album der Deutschen aus Hamburg. Aufgenommen wurde die Scheibe im Skull Tones Studio in Hamburg von NINO HELFRICH.

Die Blackened Crust-Band OTHISMOS hat mit “Sottrazione” ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist nach “L’odio necessario” (2015) und “Separazione” (2018) das dritte Album der Italiener und das erste in englischer Sprache.

Die Modern Progressive Metal-Band RIOGHAN hat mit “Hands” eine zweite Single ihres kommenden Albums “Kept” veröffentlicht. Es ist nach “Different Kinds Of Losses” (2022) das zweite Album der Finnen und wird am 14. Februar 2025 via Inverse Records erscheinen. Vorab gibt es mit “Edge” auch einen Video-Clip.

“”Edge” gibt die Richtung für die Szenerie des neuen Albums vor und beschreibt die harte Dualität von tief eingeschnittener Verehrung und abscheulicher Enttäuschung mit den Augen einer verwundeten Muse, die nach Rache sucht. Instrumental ist der Song eine ziemlich unerwartete Aufnahme. Wir haben wirklich darüber nachgedacht, ob es überhaupt die erste Single sein sollte, aber nach gründlicher Überlegung war uns klar, dass kein anderer Song besser für den ersten Vorgeschmack geeignet wäre”, erklärt die Band.

In the heavy stillness of an unresolved moment, two souls find themselves trapped, tethered to indecision and an aching sense of suspense. The air pulses with unspoken tension, every second stretched tight as a wire. They stand on the brink, caught between staying together in a fragile unity or breaking free into the vast unknown beyond. The world outside brims with menace, shadows whispering of danger and uncertain endings.

Time lingers, dragging its heels, as hope flickers like a dying flame—fragile, faltering, nearly extinguished. Each heartbeat echoes with the weight of waiting, a promise unfulfilled. The night looms, pressing in, cold and merciless, while they search for some spark of resolution, a sign that never comes. Indecision binds them, holding them in place as the question hangs in the air: to hold on or let go, to cling to what remains or brave the darkness ahead.

Austin, Texas, duo TaSzlin Muerte (Fuck Money) and Lars Wolfshield (Wolfshield Records) collide creatively as Jet Cemetery, conjuring an ethereal new single, Eagle Rider. With rhythmic undertones and dystopian echoes, their soundscape drifts between fragile hope and dark realization, echoing the spirits of Massive Attack, Portishead, Air, and Björk. Muerte’s vocals cut through, probing and poignant, like prayers cast into the void.

Eagle Rider lingers in a place of tension—a purgatory where two souls stand still, teetering between staying tethered or breaking free. Trapped and tangled, they wait for a sign that never arrives, haunted by hints of danger and promises unfulfilled. The refrain, “leave a light on,” beats like a heartache, aching for a guide, a glimmer, some thread of clarity. Time stretches, and hope wanes, leaving them suspended in that vast, aching limbo where decisions burn slow and heavy.

“I’m guarding this fortress, and I don’t know why,” says Wolfshield about the song. “I never knew why. So I’m on the watch, and I’m allowing the infiltration. This place I’ve called home is bliss, but it’s a prison. Are we lost here? Can we even see the truth anymore? Join me, or don’t. But I can’t stay. It’s not safe anymore. The world is burning, and I can’t just watch. Leave a light on, so I can find my way back home, when all is in ashes.”

Directed by Ismael Quintanilla III and Don Ray Hermes (Zero Hour ATX), the surrealist video captures time slipping and memory warping, twisting space into a liminal realm where moments stretch and distort. The hypnotic chorus soothes like a gentle balm, whispering peace amidst life’s trials. An expansive melody unfurls, anchored by exquisite synth work that washes over the senses, calming and commanding all at once. The visual journey sways between dream and disarray, each frame echoing a fragile harmony. Yet, through the pull of distortion and drift, a quiet sense of beauty persists, resilient and soft, even when everything feels askew.

Glazyhaze, Italy’s youthful maestros of shoegaze and dreampop, summon melodies that pull listeners straight into the blissed-out haze of the early ’90s. This quartet—Irene Moretuzzo, Lorenzo Dall’Armellina, Francesco Giacomin, and Vsevolod Prokhorov—conjures an atmosphere that swirls with nostalgia and fresh intent, embracing the familiar while spinning new magic.

Now, Glazyhaze unveils their latest creation: the single and music video What A Feeling, a shimmering preview of their second full album, set to arrive in 2025.

What a Feeling marks a bold turn for Glazyhaze, casting off their former ethereal tones in favor of a stripped-back ferocity. The band leans into distortion-drenched guitars, pulsing rhythms, and bolder vocals that speak to the fierce joy of rediscovering one’s true self. Its lyrics meditate on the way life’s relentless pace pulls us from our inner core—and the fierce, almost euphoric power of regaining that lost connection.

The music video, set in a dim, abandoned theater, conjures up a sense of timelessness, with its warm tones and subtle lighting. Director Francesco Giacomin showcases the band’s offbeat charisma with a faux living-room setup onstage, echoing the camaraderie of bands like Sonic Youth and Bikini Kill. Here, in the glow of this weathered stage, Glazyhaze’s spirit shines, blending nostalgia with the thrill of forward motion.

H Larissa Iceglass και ο William Maybelline θα φέρουν τη σκοτεινή, ρομαντική αισθητική τους στο μεγαλύτερο show που έχουν δώσει στη χώρα μας, μέχρι σήμερα. Special guests, οι εξαιρετικοί Selofan, σε μια σπουδαία βραδιά για τη σύγχρονη dark / cold wave σκηνή.

Για περισσότερα από δέκα χρόνια, οι Lebanon Hanover έχουν εδραιωθεί ως μια ξεχωριστή ηχητική πρόταση στον μουσικό κόσμο –  “παγωμένη”, αλλά με βάση δύο “ζεστές” καρδιές. Το ντουέτο, που θαυμάζει την ποίηση του William Wordsworth και μαγεύεται από την αισθητική της art nouveau, συνεχίζει να δημιουργεί μουσική που αποσκοπεί να αποτελέσει το ιδανικό soundtrack “για περιπάτους σε βρετανικές ακτογραμμές, σε δάση τη νύχτα ή στους δρόμους του Βερολίνου”, όπως λένε οι χαρακτηριστικά οι ίδιοι.

Οι Selofan, στο ετήσιο ραντεβού τους με το εγχώριο κοινό, θα πιστοποιήσουν για ακόμα μια φορά στη σκηνή τους λόγους για τους οποίους συγκαταλέγονται ανάμεσα στους κορυφαίους εκπροσώπους της μοντέρνας dark wave. Το Αθηναϊκό ντουέτο της Ιωάννας Παυλίδου και του Δημήτρη Παυλίδη, πάντα ανήσυχο και συνειδητά ενεργό σε έναν ουσιαστικά ανεξάρτητο μουσικό χώρο, αποτελεί την κινητήρια δύναμη πίσω από την Fabrika Records και, ταυτόχρονα, υπηρετεί το δικό του δημιουργικό όραμα.

Με αφετηρία τους goth ήχους των 80s και τον μινιμαλισμό, οι Selofan έχουν ξεκινήσει το ταξίδι τους εδώ και μία δεκαετία. Έχοντας ηχογραφήσει ήδη επτά δίσκους, προσπαθούν πάντα να επανεφευρίσκουν τον ήχο τους, η βάση του οποίου παραμένει ένα μίγμα φιλτραρισμένων και πειραματικών synths, η παλλόμενη μπασογραμμή, το drum machine και τα ψυχοφθόρα φωνητικά, προσφέροντας ένα συνολικό αποτέλεσμα που χαρακτηρίζεται από ένταση και συναισθήματα έρωτα, απελπισίας και χαρμολύπης.

„Singen ist ohnehin zu schwer, schreien ist einfach.“ Im Interview mit Kerrang! findet COUNTERPARTS-Frontmann Brendan Murphy eine einfache Erklärung für die kompromisslose Ausrichtung der Überraschungs-EP „Heaven Let Them Die“. Die Energie auf den Live-Konzerten sei seine Antriebsfeder und während der melodischen Parts habe er dort häufig nichts zu tun. Dass die sechs neuen Tracks also den Härtegrad bis zum Anschlag drehen, scheint eine natürliche Reaktion zu sein – oder ein „Experiment“, wie Murphy es nennt.

Als solches lässt uns schon der Auftakt „A Martyr Left Alive“ erst einmal kräftig schlucken. Die schiere Galligkeit, mit der COUNTERPARTS hier ohne Rücksicht auf Kollateralschäden zum Rundumschlag ausholen, ist unerwartet und an Furor schwer zu überbieten. Die tief gestimmten Gitarren, die massiv einschlagenden Breakdowns und nicht zuletzt das erbarmungslose Organ des Shouters lassen uns zweimal auf den Titel blicken. Doch anders als zunächst vermutet, ist hier eben nicht Murphys Nebenprojekt END am Werk, mit dem sich „Heaven Let Them Die“ aber zumindest den Produzenten teilt.

Die Handschrift Will Putneys ist folglich im drückenden und dabei für US-Standards gewohnt mächtigen Soundwall zu erkennen. Zu viel wird der Mix allein aufgrund der knackigen Spielzeit von 17 Minuten nicht, obwohl das Quartett hier nicht für einen Augenblick zurückhält. Die getragene Leadgitarre in „With Loving Arms Disfigured“ gewährt nur kurzzeitig Orientierung, bevor die Rhythmussektion entweder den nächsten Haken schlägt oder uns mit eiserner Miene zu Boden prügelt. Letzteres gelingt auch in „No Lamb Was Lost“ sowie dem erbarmungslosen „Praise No Artery Intact“ ganz vorzüglich, sodass wir am Ende der sechs Stücke erstmal zögerlich in Richtung Repeat-Button schielen.

Eine Verschnaufpause haben wir ob der Urgewalt dieser EP eben bitter nötig. Im Gegensatz offenbar zu Shouter Brendan, der die extreme Seite seiner Band genau deshalb bevorzugt, weil sie ihn konstant auf Trab hält. Dafür ist „Heaven Let Them Die“ in der Tat die allerbeste Medizin, die zu alledem nicht nur live auf der Bühne, sondern auch zu Hause in den eigenen vier Wänden ihre Wirkung nicht verfehlt.
