From the after-hours pulse of Berlin’s underground emerges a thrilling collaboration: German dark-disco stalwarts Rework join forces with Australian-born, Berlin-based electro provocateur Neu-Romancer for the lush two-track EP Call You Up. Released through exlove records, this alliance blends moody minimal wave aesthetics with sleek dancefloor sensibility—both artists effortlessly bridging sonic nostalgia and contemporary dark club atmospheres.

Stuttgart duo Rework—Michael Kuebler and Daniel Varga—have long championed a sophisticated strand of minimal wave and electro-disco, notably via their influential early-2000s releases on Playhouse and Get Physical. Their music pairs crisp beats and hypnotic synths with icy, detached vocals, invoking the cold glamour of European new wave while continually refining their signature electronic elegance. Recent releases, such as 2024’s acclaimed Lipstick EP, underscore their enduring commitment to chic minimalism and shadowy grooves.

Rework
Neu-Romancer, meanwhile, represents the rising wave of artists reshaping Berlin’s dark electronic landscape. Originally from Fremantle, Australia, her sound weaves playful threads of Italo-disco, EBM, and electro into a sultry, neon-lit tapestry. Her acclaimed 2023 EP, Neue Romantika (Fleisch Records), showcases her knack for merging romantic synth-pop nostalgia with the driving rhythms of industrial clubs. Her productions capture the dark charisma of Berlin’s subterranean scenes—synth lines shimmer beneath stark drum patterns, creating irresistible tracks at home on shadowy dancefloors or pulsing through airwaves like Seattle’s KEXP.

The seeds of this collaboration were planted after Neu-Romancer’s guest set on KEXP’s Mechanical Breakdown, hosted by DJ Sharlese. Recognizing their shared musical ethos—a mutual love for minimal synth, EBM, and classic coldwave—the artists quickly began exchanging ideas between Berlin and Stuttgart. The resulting EP is a potent synthesis, encapsulating two generations of electronic artistry in a seamless hybrid of past and present.

The title track, “Call You Up,” sparkles with a lush, retro-futurist glow—an effervescent synthpop reverie propelled by crystalline textures and crisp drum-machine beats. Its shimmering arpeggios and buoyant bass synth pulse evoke pastel-hued 80s daydreams reminiscent of SSQ, as Neu-Romancer’s airy vocals drift delicately atop exuberant synth melodies. Brimming with rhythmic euphoria and bright nostalgia, the song feels like tumbling headfirst into a blissful retro-anime fantasy, bathed in neon warmth.

In sharp contrast, “Coming Home” descends into darker territory, purpose-built for the shadowed recesses of subterranean dancefloors. This track merges minimal techno precision with icy Italo-disco flair, its hypnotic rhythms evoking a distinctly European froideur. Vocals are sparse, mechanized whispers weaving subtly through mechanical pulses and cold synths—tracing echoes of Visage’s iconic “Fade to Grey” mixed with Chris and Cosey. Balancing shadowy restraint with mechanical intensity, “Coming Home” conjures visions of nocturnal industrial spaces, where sleek elegance and cool detachment meet irresistible dancefloor tension.

Ultimately, the Call You Up EP stands as a compelling conversation between two distinct but complementary artists, capturing the essence of synth music’s enduring appeal: rooted in darkness yet reaching toward moments of luminous release. Finnish coldwave songstress Suzi Sabotage unveils her latest single, “Suden synty,” an icy escape into the primal wilderness accompanied by a video expertly crafted by director Tino Vaittine. Filmed entirely in stark, arresting black and white, the visuals effortlessly traverse between shadowed cityscapes and the haunting whispers of primeval Finnish forests.

Suzi appears as an ethereal presence, shifting gracefully between the stark isolation of urban alleys and the raw enchantment of woodland spirits. Her vocals glide and spiral hypnotically, punctuated by haunting yelps against intricately layered synth textures—simultaneously unsettling and reassuring, a tantalizing balance of menace and allure.

Suden synty is a hymn of escape, detailing the primal longing to cast off the chains of urban confinement and rediscover nature’s fierce authenticity. It confronts the visceral truths of transformation: the grit beneath the fingernails, the taste of soil and blood, and portrays the humbling necessity of collapse as a prelude to rebirth. Within the shadowy embrace of the forest canopy, Sabotage finds the essence of untamed strength and raw self-realization, embodied by the spirit of the wolf.

Fatally serves as an incisive commentary on the futility woven into addiction’s relentless repetitions. Messiness delivers an articulate, lush, and unsettling exploration of life’s contradictions, where beauty is forever entangled with ruin.

Messiness synthesizes Raffa’s eclectic background as composer, sociologist, and writer into a kaleidoscope of artistic pop, psychedelic flourishes, and celestial rock. Raffa, attuned to the poignant paradoxes of addiction, deftly captures the hyper-awareness and emotional estrangement that accompany such compulsive cycles.

“I penned this while I was living in Liverpool, right after sharing a few pints with this lad I met down the local,” says Max Raffa. “He’d just gotten out of the therapeutic community. Fatally is a harrowing introspection on addiction, rehabilitation, and the crushing weight of time’s inescapable forward march. It is a song about being caught in a cycle that simultaneously promises redemption and assures failure.”

The band released two earlier singles: Previous Life and Feature With A Rapper.

Previous Life is bouyant psychedelia, an interrogation of nostalgia’s internal contradictions. The song exposes the futility of retreating into an imagined past, revealing that such a past is, by definition, uninhabitable. The impulse to escape is simultaneously an acknowledgment of entrapment…the longing for a life beyond structure, obligation, and meaning ultimately leads not to liberation, but to negation.

 

Feature with a Rapper erupts as an electrifying blend of hard psych rock infused with Mediterranean warmth, propelled by a dizzying array of folk instruments, flower-punk echoes, and even some rap. Initially presented as a tongue-in-cheek narrative about an artist chasing industry recognition, the track soon unfolds into a sharp critique of creative authenticity in the digital era. Its intense, kinetic energy captures the frantic struggle of independent musicians navigating an environment where visibility overshadows talent, and credibility is traded as currency. Playful yet incisive, the song’s explosive dynamics and biting irony deliver both an exhilarating journey and an uncompromising industry critique.

Am 3. Oktober 2025 veröffentlichen ORBIT CULTURE ihr neues Album „Death Above Life“ trägt.  „Das Album steht für Veränderung, für einen Neuanfang”, sagt Gitarrist, Sänger und Songwriter Niklas Karlsson. „Es weckt viele gute und schlechte Emotionen, aber es ist eine große Veränderung zum Besseren. Es fühlt sich wie eine Wiedergeburt an.”

ALESTORM veröffentlichen ihr achtes Studioalbum: „The Thunderfist Chronicles“ enthält acht Tracks, darunter ein mehr als 17-minütiges Epos inklusive Gastbeiträgen von Patty Gurdy sowie Sir Russel Allen (SYMPHONY X) sowie ein NEKROGOBLIKON-Cover. Mit einem Clip zum Stück „The Storm“ kann man sich nun auf das fertige Werk einstimmen.

Den zweiten Vorgeschmack „Killed To Death By Piracy“ findet man ebenfalls als Video bei YouTube.

Eine erste Single teilten die Schotten zuvor in Form von „Frozen Piss 2“ via YouTube.

Erscheinen wird die Platte am 20. Juni 2025 via Napalm Records auf CD, Vinyl sowie digital. Zuletzt veröffentlichte die schottische Pirate Metal-Band die EP „Voyage Of The Dead Marauder“ (2024).
