Die Technical Death Metal-Band von MATT MILLER hat einen Labeldeal bei Exitus Stratagem Records unterschrieben. Im Zuge dessen wird die Band rund um den namensgebenden Bandgründer ihr neues Album „Fiber Tormentum“ veröffentlichen. Es ist das sechste Album der US-Amerikaner.

„Fiber Tormentum“ entstand als loses Konzeptalbum, in dem es darum geht, dass Aliens unseren Planeten übernehmen wollen, und dieses Mal verändern sie die menschliche DNA, um die Menschheit zu versklaven. Release-Termin ist der 12. September 2025. Das Cover-Artwork stammt noch vom Ende 2024 verstorbenen Joshua Nassaru Ward (Ex-RAPHEUMETS WELL, Ex-XAEL, Ex-VORAATH). Mit „Descent into Violence“ gibt es nun den Opener des Albums zu hören.

„Der Track erforscht Themen wie Verzweiflung und Überleben und malt das Bild einer Seele, die am Rande des Abgrunds steht und in einer Welt, die gegen sie gestapelt ist, ums Überleben kämpft. Es ist ein Schrei aus der Tiefe, der die Kämpfe widerspiegelt, mit denen viele konfrontiert sind, die aber nur wenige artikulieren können“, sagt die Band.

Die Heavy / Stoner Rock-Band BORRACHO hat mit „Machine is the Master“ ein Lyric-Video ihres kommenden Albums „Ouroboros“ veröffentlicht.

„In der Zukunft sind die Erde und alles, was wir kennen, auf eine unterirdische Höllenlandschaft reduziert, die von einem einzigen globalen Supercomputer beherrscht wird. Dieser Computer, diese Maschine, vertreibt sich die Zeit damit, das halbe Dutzend noch lebender Menschen zu foltern. Er kontrolliert ihre Bewegungen, entstellt sie und hält sie am Leben. In Anlehnung an die Kurzgeschichte „I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream“ von Harlan Ellison greift dieser Song eine fünf Jahrzehnte alte Geschichte auf, die eine nur allzu genaue Beschreibung unserer nahen Zukunft, wenn nicht gar unserer Gegenwart ist“, erklärt die Band.

„Ouroboros“ ist das sechste Album des US-amerikanischen Trios aus Washington, DC und erforscht das alte alchemistische Konzept der kontinuierlichen Transformation, angewandt auf zeitgenössische soziale Missstände. Das Album wurde von Frank “The Punisher” Marchand bei Waterford Digital in Pasadena produziert und wird am 8. August 2025 via Ripple Music erscheinen. „Sin City konnte nur von Amerika geschaffen werden. Wo sonst gibt es einen Ort, an dem die Sucht gefördert wird? Die Sucht nach Glücksspiel und käuflichem Sex, aber auch der sehr amerikanische materialistische Lebensstil verleiten die Menschen dazu, alles zu riskieren, um den amerikanischen Traum zu verwirklichen. Aber das Haus gewinnt immer. Inspiriert von unserer Reise nach Las Vegas im letzten Jahr, habe ich so viele verschiedene Aspekte des menschlichen Zustands beobachtet. Also beschloss ich, die Geschichte von jemandem zu schreiben, der viel gewinnt und es sich zu Kopf steigen lässt, so dass er aufgrund seiner Arroganz am Ende alles verliert und auf der Straße landet und seinen Körper verkaufen muss. Es ist wirklich eine Geschichte über Arroganz, Ego und Niedergang“, erklärt die Band.

Forming in Montreal’s glacial underground in 2011, Scene Noir has threaded twilight atmospheres through strands of dream pop, cold wave, and shadow-clad post-punk. Their newest offering, Supernatural, crystallizes their nocturnal allure into a six-track séance: equal parts celestial hymn and ghostly incantation. Fans who traverse the worlds of Cocteau Twins, Orbital, Regurgitator, and even Lou Reed will find their home here.

The record opens with “Underdose,” a lush cathedral of shoegaze alt-rock textures and choral majesty, soon dissolving into an alluringly cinematic blend of blues-inflected synthpop, reminiscent of David Lynch’s spectral visions. It sets an enigmatic tone, echoed by “Eyes Wide,” where Zola Jesus-style operatic crescendos and whispered intimations drift across percussive heartbeats, rendering an atmosphere that is simultaneously angelic and unsettling.

The album’s centerpiece, the title track “Supernatural,” plunges deepest into Scene Noir’s occult imaginations. Guitar lines sear the edges of ritualistic chants, while spectral whispers and shadowy spoken-word conjure an unearthly resonance. Lust follows, capturing the hypnotic minimalism of Suicide, weaving urgent poetic verses through motorik rhythms and intense, swelling synths.

Unclean delivers a thrilling discordance of shoegaze, subtle drum and bass, and icy goth: clicking, skeletal percussion underscores striking guitar solos that slice through layers of synth-driven dread. Scene Noir closes this nocturnal odyssey with Funeral, a gorgeous dual vocal dreampop lament steeped in Cocteau Twins-inspired harmonies and subtle R&B grooves. Tambourines shimmer faintly beneath waves of spectral melancholy, leaving listeners afloat in bittersweet reverie.

Produced by Andrew Velvet under his idreamidream alias, Supernatural masterfully infuses shoegaze beauty, techno heartbeat, and trip-hop shadowplay, marking Scene Noir’s most ambitious and emotionally charged work yet. For devotees of darkwave’s hazy realms and post-punk’s hidden corners, this is a release that rewards deep, repeated listens, revealing its mysteries slowly, in twilight glimmers.

James Thornton’s LOSSES hails from a Simi Valley garage, like a techno-prophet from some near-future dystopia, with a synthesizer strapped, and a tongue firmly in cheek. His latest track, World Is Down In the Dumps, channels Kraftwerk’s deadpan minimalism, layered with a sardonic bite reminiscent of DEVO and Iron Curtain. It’s dry satire distilled into hypnotic synth loops, bleak yet playful in its portrayal of societal decay.

Thornton conjures the aura of perpetual gloom: a techno-man’s lament set within cybernetic corridors, where paternal overlords rule unchecked, and collective despair loops endlessly. He delivers each line with detached irony, amplifying the absurdity of authoritarian stagnation. His monotonous vocal cadence hammers home the banality of living under worn-out authority figures, caught in an endless cycle of “gloomies” and collective ennui.

Thornton admits a curious amalgam of influences behind the track: an attempt at emulating the Pet Shop Boys; Flipper’s nihilistic anti-anthem Hard Cold World; and the ectoplasmic “mood slime” from Ghostbusters II. His imagery of a world drowning in negative emotional ooze crystallizes his satirical viewpoint, framing contemporary anxieties through surreal pop-culture metaphor.

His self-directed video amplifies this sardonic lens, tailored specifically for our social mediascape. Thornton knowingly truncates visuals, deliberately disrupting the narrative arc to parody digital consumption. The meta-commentary, a truncated, vertically-oriented clip that mirrors disposable online viewing habits, ends abruptly with a direct advertorial jab. This creative choice pokes fun at the fleeting attention spans dominating today’s collective psyche, cheekily acknowledging the uphill battle faced by artists navigating the algorithmic abyss.

Deceptively minimalist, World Is Down In the Dumps wryly reflects upon modern malaise: a cheeky yet bleak diagnosis, delivered through synthesizers, sarcasm, and just enough absurdity to keep the darkness at bay.

Holy Death Temple is the newest vanguard turning existential dread into a dancefloor ritual. With their second single, Survey Says, Seattle’s goth-dance insurgents offer a blistering slice of synth-laden nihilism that skewers America’s sociopolitical decay beneath the cold, glossy veneer of a corrupted game show. This caustic track delivers a propulsive jolt, challenging listeners to twist and writhe through the wreckage of modern collapse.

The trio’s style fuses the icy gloom of Joy Division and Bauhaus with the irreverent rage of Sex Pistols, further electrified by the digital decadence reminiscent of Daft Punk and Justice. Here, rebellion and revelry entwine, disguising raw catharsis within irresistibly danceable hooks. Rejecting the bass guitar entirely, Holy Death Temple deploys seismic synth-bass vibrations that underpin precise guitar work and relentless drum rhythms, creating space for the band’s signature hooks to surge forward. Amy Tung-Barrysmith (synth) and Jon Barrysmith (drums), known for their doomy tenure in Year of the Cobra, propel the track into a tightly wound tempest of energy.

Survey Says critiques society’s crumbling foundations through the allegory of a televised spectacle, peeling away façades to expose the malignant mechanisms of manipulation and greed. Lyrics call starkly to “burn it down,” an incendiary refrain punctuating the futility inherent in competitions orchestrated by entrenched systems of oppression. Frontman Bryan Edward envisioned Holy Death Temple as a visceral reaction against the suffocating seriousness, channeling righteous fury into kinetic revelry.

“Media and politics profit from division while claiming to serve the people,” says Edward, who started the project after leaving a post-hardcore band where the message was lost by being “too serious, and no fun.” The song’s premise, social conflict as a ratings-driven game, builds to one final answer we can all agree on: “just burn it down.”

The accompanying video underscores this commentary by assembling an unflinching montage of real-world clips (and moments from classic game show Family Feud) transforming mundane news cycles into a concentrated barrage of unsettling truth. Ironically, the band encountered censorship issues for merely curating publicly available footage, inadvertently affirming their critique of mediated reality.

“The news cycle moves so fast and we’re so overstimulated that we forget or become numb to the horrible shit that’s happening, so it can be jarring when seen all at once,” Edward remarks. “That’s kind of the point of the video and the YouTube trust and safety team just proved it.”

Another soul from the Lynchian universe has ascended into the White Lodge. Rebekah Del Rio, whose luminous voice etched itself into cinematic immortality with her transcendent rendition of Llorando in David Lynch’s Mulholland Drive, passed away at her Los Angeles home on June 23, at the age of 57.

Del Rio’s nephew, Dan Coronado, confirmed her death in a social media post:

“Just found out my Tia Becky passed away, and we literally just saw her on Father’s Day. So grateful the kids got to hear her sing. and also that I didn’t listen to her and secretly recorded the moment. Her most famous song is titled Llorando which is named after Roy Orbison’s song Crying, which I’m doing right now as I type this out. Thank you for sharing your beautiful gift with the world. We love you.”

Born beneath California skies in Chula Vista on July 10, 1967, Del Rio first graced stages in San Diego’s clubs and cafes before venturing northward into Los Angeles’ neon haze. Her soulful gift eventually drew her to Nashville, enchanted by the siren song of country music.

Del Rio’s artistic path crossed Lynch’s in the mid-1990s, thanks to mutual agent Brian Loucks. In a moment of artful serendipity, Lynch discreetly captured Del Rio’s heart-rending performance of Llorando. This recording became the emotional core of the legendary Club Silencio scene, breathing new life into Lynch’s abandoned television pilot and transforming it into a surreal masterpiece.

In Mulholland Drive’s unforgettable climax, Del Rio appeared bathed in spotlight, her voice cascading like a spectral wave over Naomi Watts and Laura Harring, whose characters crumbled beneath its emotional weight. Although the film revealed the performance as an illusion of lip-syncing, Del Rio’s powerful voice filled the room live across multiple takes, leaving cast and crew in awe.

“There were many takes,” Del Rio recalled. “And with every take I sang along because I felt I had to produce that same feeling with the vibrato in my throat so the audience could see it. I also wanted the beautiful girls on the balcony, Laura and Naomi, to experience it live. They were present while I was doing my scene, so I sang to them.”

This singular scene elevated Del Rio’s profile beyond music alone, allowing her haunting voice to resonate across other cinematic landscapes…the dystopian dreams of Southland Tales, the noir shadows of Sin City, and the fiery intensity of Man on Fire. Yet, Lynch remained her closest artistic kin. She returned to his world once more in Twin Peaks: The Return, delivering haunting duets with Moby on the shadow-drenched Roadhouse stage. Her presence endured through her final days, highlighted by a recent appearance at a Mulholland Drive charity screening, a memory cherished by those fortunate enough to witness it.

Del Rio’s life was also marked by profound personal grief, having lost her son, Phillip C. DeMars, in 2009 at the age of 23 from cancer. Through her music, however, she transformed sorrow into celestial melodies, her voice eternally poised between joy and loss.

“My voice lends itself to that sadness because I carry a lot of grief inside,” she told The Guardian in 2022.

Details surrounding her passing remain sparse; an understated echo befitting a performer whose most profound moments thrived within mystery and silent wonder.

Das von Sänger Grànt gegründete bayerische Black Metal Projekt kreist lyrisch weiterhin um Geschichten und Traditionen, die im Dialekt des deutschen Alpenlandes erzählt werden. "Kremess" bedeutet auf Hochdeutsch "Leichenschmaus" – und der Tod spielt auf diesem Album erneut eine große Rolle. Musikalisch erscheinen neben dem traditionellen Hackbrett weitere akustische Instrumente. Dazu gesellen sich vor allem Einflüsse aus dem frühen nordischen Black Metal, bei dem Namen wie GEHENNA, ULVER und DARKTHRONE fallen müssen – aber auch Inspirationen von deutschen Pionieren des Genres wie NAGELFAR und LUNAR AURORA. Mit dem englischen Gitarristen Gnàst, der den bisherigen Songwriter Grain mittlerweile abgelöst hat, kommen frische Ideen und Klänge zur bajuwarisch-schwarzen Klangwelt hinzu. Eine Reihe von Gastmusikern, unter anderem Mitglieder von EMPYRIUM, TRIPTYKON und DARK FORTRESS, bereichern ebenfalls das musikalische Spektrum. GRÀB, was im bairischen Dialekt "alt und grau" und keineswegs "Grab" bedeutet, wurden vom ehemaligen DARK FORTRESS-Frontmann Grànt erdacht, der dem Black Metal eine unverkennbar bayerische Note verleihen wollte. Die anfängliche Zusammenarbeit zwischen Grànt und dem Gitarristen Grain führte im Jahr 2021 zur Veröffentlichung des Debütalbums "Zeitlang", das den Geist des frühen Black Metal sehr zur Freude von Kritikern und Fans wiederauferstehen ließ. -> >;Gitarren? Wer braucht schon Gitarren im Heavy Metal? YEAR OF THE COBRA können locker darauf verzichten – zumindest auf die mit den dünnen Saiten, die vor allem zum Herumfummeln taugen. Frontfrau Amy Tung Barrysmith holt aus ihrem Bass einen derartig fetten Groove und satte Heaviness heraus, die als Raketentreibstoff mehr als ausreichen, um den dröhnenden Zwillingsmotor aus Doom Metal und psychedelischem Sludge ihres selbstbetitelten dritten Albums anzutreiben. "Year of the Cobra" ist eindeutig aus der Saat seiner beiden Vorgänger, "...in the Shadows Below" (2016) und "Ash and Dust" (2019), erwachsen – und übertrifft sie noch. YEAR OF THE COBRA konnten ihr Songwriting verfeinern, kommen noch mehr auf den Punkt und punkten mit eingängigen, aber dennoch superschweren Melodien, die exakt auf die stärksten Aspekte der Band zugeschnitten sind. Amy Tung Barrysmiths mal samtene, mal raue Altstimme und das nahtlose rhythmische Zusammenwirken von ihrem Bass und Jon Barrysmiths gefühlvollem Schlagzeugspiel gelangen dadurch in den Vordergrund. YEAR OF THE COBRA wurden im Jahr 2015 in der US-Regenstadt Seattle gegründet. Als Duo mussten sich YEAR OF THE COBRA zunächst eine eigene Nische suchen, was ihnen mit scheinbarer Leichtigkeit gelang. Sie kreierten einen Sound, der mühelos von klassischer Doom-Melancholie bis zu beklemmend schweren Riff-Architekturen reichte. YEAR OF THE COBRA gelang es zudem, eingängige, fast beschwingte Rock-Momente in wirbelnde Psychedelik zu verwandeln. -> >;THURNINs drittes Album "Harmr" wurde aus jenem tiefen Gefühl der Trauer geboren, welches nur aus Liebe entstehen kann. Der Titel ist ein altisländisches Wort, das sich gut mit "Kummer" übersetzen lässt. Der Verlust eines geliebten Lebensbegleiters ist für jeden Menschen schwer zu ertragen, und umso schwerer wiegt es, wenn es sich um eine Mehrzahl handelt. Dies erklärt, warum Molltöne und ein reduziertes Tempo in den meisten Songs von "Harmr" überwiegen – gerade auch im Vergleich zum Vorgängeralbum "Útiseta" (2023). Auf Letzterem interpretierte THURNIN-Mastermind Jurre Timmer den numinosen Akt des "Draußensitzens", eine isländische Tradition, als einen Weg zur Gemeinschaft mit der Natur. Doch während sich die magische Traumwelt auf dem dritten Langspieler von THURNIN in eine dunklere, melancholischere Richtung entwickelt hat, gibt es auch die Gefühle der Hoffnung auf Erlösung, liebevolle Erinnerungen und Momente der Schönheit. Diesen musikalischen Kontext erschuf Timmer bereits auf seinem Debütalbum "Menhir" (2021). Als „Menhir“ seinen Weg aus Timmers damaligem Heimstudio in der Stadt Soest bei der niederländischen Stadt Amersfoort fand, wurde das Album auf Anhieb zum YouTube-Hit, der längst die Millionenmarke bei den Aufrufen überschritten hat. Am Rande des Winters, wenn der Frühling sich anschickt, die nördliche Hemisphäre mit Licht und Wärme zu beglücken, öffnen THURNIN ein neues Portal zu ihrer Traumwelt.
