“I was reliant on him for rides. He would drive recklessly—swerving, speeding, screaming at other drivers, screaming at me. I cried in the car a lot. He would taunt me, saying things like, “Oh, you’re scared??? Why don’t you trust me? I know what I’m doing,” then speed up, get more reckless, laughing the whole time. I was convinced he wanted to kill me more than a few times. He definitely could have. It’s not that bad.

I didn’t know if I was allowed to call it “domestic violence.” He never left me with any bruises, although I don’t bruise easily. It’s hard to leave a mark on me. He didn’t threaten to kill me, or light me on fire, or break any of my bones. Every day I woke up feeling as though I deserved to be punished—that I was a bad person, a bad partner, that I was crazy, that I was beyond repair. I was lucky to have anyone in my life willing to love me. And because I arrived at the table starving, when I was presented with crumbs I bowed down and said, “Thank you.”

We hedged our bets and toed the line
I guess you were right, nothing ever lasts
You tried to convince me we’d be fine
Now I forget to mourn the past
Tiger Knives might sound like something you’d order from a sketchy late-night infomercial, but Raleigh’s punchy post-punk outfit has been sharpening their edges quietly (and impressively) since 2019. Formed by Jake Craven and Brandon Howell, the band quickly grew from a scrappy two-person operation into a full-throttle quartet, serving up slices of feral, finely tuned alt-rock fury with an undeniable wink and nod to their goth-tinged predecessors.

The video for Snake Eyes, a track off of their 2023 Ruminations LP, is wrapped in chorus-drenched guitars that wouldn’t feel out of place on an old Killing Joke record, bolstered by synth lines spikier than Robert Smith’s hair circa 1983. Tiger Knives are deft at balancing angular precision with the snarling heft reminiscent of Type O Negative and early Deftones. But instead of simply paying tribute, they twist these threads into something fresh, punchy, and playfully moody. It’s heavy music that hums.

Lyrically, this cut isn’t exactly a breezy summer jam; it reads like an affectionate eulogy to a romance that’s crashed and burned. The song manages to capture the nagging ache of relationships slowly evaporating, as hope grudgingly gives way to reality. The resignation hangs thick, yet oddly comforting, like finding old letters hidden away in a box, realizing things ended exactly as everyone predicted, but somehow you’re still surprised.

The video is a beautifully chaotic black-and-white reel that ricochets between North Carolina’s familiar highways, moody tunnels, forgotten bridges, and glimpses of Tokyo. Interspersed shots of the band rehearsing lend it an affectionate vintage-tour-video vibe, like digging through a forgotten VHS stash labeled “TK Road Trip ‘89.” It’s grainy nostalgia seasoned with modern existential musings, the kind you vaguely recall after falling asleep in front of late-night cable.

Tiger Knives have locked onto a frequency that’s disarmingly sincere…think goth nostalgia tangled up with indie-rock jitters. Their debut LP, Ruminations, landed in 2023 courtesy of Bleeding Ghost Records, born out of lockdown’s nervous energy and cabin fever. The record bristles with tense, coiled-up tracks, capturing isolation’s frayed nerves and frantic yearnings for escape. Post-release, the band swelled into a full four-piece assault team, turbocharging their live-wire sound into something delightfully unhinged and wonderfully unpredictable.

L – the enigmatic Mexican-American darkwave/EBM artist also known as Lynette Ríos Padilla – is hitting the road this summer with an expansive tour across the United States (and beyond). Renowned for her hauntingly melodic yet fiercely aggressive sound, L weaves an intoxicating musical spell that draws from darkwave, industrial, and classic EBM influences. Clad in the armor of a self-styled warrior (complete with her signature ‘CowDom’ hat and whip), this electronic music powerhouse commands the stage with a formidable presence and unapologetic feminist energy. Fans of the dark electronic underground have been mesmerized by L’s primal performances, which celebrate feminine power with a sultry defiance of convention – an ethos she’s poised to bring to venues nationwide on her upcoming Summer 2025 U.S. tour.

Emerging from California’s thriving dark electronic scene, L first made waves with her 2020 debut album Discipline. That release – a bold fusion of retro‐synthwave drama and modern EBM bite – established L as a unique voice unafraid to explore themes of romance, self-worth, and personal discipline in equal measure. In 2023, she followed up with the Bodyheat EP (via Crunch Pod), a four-track collection that further showcased her innovative blend of techno, darkwave, and body music. The EP includes the moody single “Lonestar” alongside the sultry title track “Bodyheat,” each pairing L’s evocative vocals with pulsating electronic beats. Bodyheat’s provocative music videos and lyrics candidly explored desire and empowerment, solidifying L’s reputation for pushing boundaries in style. The Bodyheat era also yielded an all-star remix album in 2024, featuring contributions from industrial and EBM/Synth luminaries like INHALT, Daniel Myer, Angels & Agony, Manufactura, and others who reimagined L’s tracks in their own distinctive styles. With each release, L has continued to carve out a devoted following – her live performances, especially, have become a sight to behold, thanks to their raw energy and theatrical flair.

This August–September 2025 trek will mark L’s most extensive tour to date, carrying her dark dancefloor anthems from coast to coast. The itinerary kicks off August 1st at the famed Che Cafe in San Diego, CA, a fitting hometown launch pad for the Latina EBM maven. From there, L and her crew will snake up the West Coast – hitting spots like Ontario’s Metabolic Brewing and Oakland’s underground Spire Church – before venturing north to Seattle’s Fun House and Portland’s Coffin Club. As the month progresses, L will cut a path eastward: blasting through the Rockies with stops in Salt Lake City (International) and Denver (The Crypt), then igniting the Midwest at Kansas City’s Mini Bar, St. Louis’s Sinkhole, and Chicago’s Burlington Bar. The tour even includes a foray into Canada with an appearance at See Scape in Toronto, ON, before turning south.

In late August, L brings her show to the bayou and beyond – touching down in New Orleans (Rabbit Hole) – and then deep into the heart of Texas for gigs at Austin’s Valhalla and San Antonio’s The Mix. Rounding out the journey, she’ll storm through the Southwest with final dates in El Paso (Living Room) and Las Vegas (German Social), plus an international stop in Tijuana, MX, at the Black Box. Fittingly, the grand finale arrives on September 13th amid the otherworldly landscape of Yucca Valley, CA, where L will perform at the Mojave Gold Desert gathering – ending the tour on a high note under the desert stars.

Throughout the tour, L is joined by a rotating cast of kindred spirits from the dark electronic realm. Zen Hander (EBM/industrial producer) will serve as a special guest on every date of the tour, ensuring each night opens with extra pulsating energy. Select shows will feature additional support: Mellow Code and DJ Suplicio tag in for several West Coast appearances, bringing their own blend of synth-laced beats to the stage, while Frozen makes a one-night-only appearance to kick off the San Diego show. Later in the run, Texas audiences will be treated to the brooding post-punk stylings of Permanent Shadows, who join L in Austin and San Antonio. This dynamic lineup of support acts – all curated from the underground EBM, darkwave, and post-punk scenes – promises to complement L’s headlining set with diverse yet thematically unified sounds.

With nearly twenty dates on the schedule, L’s summer 2025 tour is an ambitious undertaking that underscores her rising prominence in the scene. Each performance is set to be an immersive experience, where L’s lightning-in-a-bottle stage presence and propulsive beats invite audiences into a cathartic dance ritual. For longtime fans and newcomers alike, this tour offers a rare chance to witness L’s fierce and fearless musical vision up close – a celebration of dark fantasy, empowerment, and electronic mystique that will leave a lasting spark in every city it touches.

Curse Mackey resurfaces with Imaginary Enemies, an album steeped in industrial menace and shadowed synth reverie. Channeling the cold-eyed assault of classic Wax Trax! releases and threading cinematic atmospherics, Mackey constructs sound as a sprawling city after curfew: dimly lit, riddled with unseen threats.

Doomed For Monday, the album’s centerpiece, rides relentless rhythms and spectral drones. Mackey’s voice, a charged invocation, slices sharply through the noise, a transmitter tuned to intimate terror and ecstatic unraveling. His vocals drip anxiety, touching raw nerves of spiritual transgression and personal implosion.

Lyrically, the track delves deep into psychic dissolution and corrosive self-reflection, confronting despair head-on. Images of decay and impending ruin reinforce the brutal realization of entrapment within destructive cycles. Mackey’s bleak poeticism acknowledges that personal collapse can be both beautiful and brutal. Fans of Skinny Puppy’s industrial severity, the EBM grooves of Front 242, the dark sheen of Clan of Xymox, or the unsettling synth provocations of Fad Gadget will find Mackey’s latest release familiar ground for stomping their combat boots in a dance frenzy. Doomed For Monday conjures music made for wandering the wastelands of late-night introspection, a dance on the knife’s edge of dread and desire.

Visually, the video careens between fragmented snapshots of Mackey’s past performances, stitched together into a fevered montage. It’s the disorienting feeling of recalling memories you never quite lived through clearly: frayed, frantic, flashing glimpses of stage-lit rituals, blurred by the relentless momentum of time.

Imaginary Enemies marks the compelling conclusion of a trilogy initiated by Instant Exorcism (2019) and intensified with Immoral Emporium (2022). While its predecessors grappled with internal turmoil and societal erosion, this third installment emerges as a sombre climax, lamenting both artistic and personal devastation, yet seeking fragments of redemption amidst the ruin.

Produced by Curse Mackey alongside longtime creative ally Chase Dobson, Imaginary Enemies is enriched by contributions from Jake Garcia (The Black Angels) and Rona Rougeheart (SINE). The album achieves a paradoxical blend: at once deeply personal and expansively cinematic; isolated, yet brimming with electrifying vitality.

ZATOKREV haben die Veröffentlichung ihres neuen Albums „…Bring Mirrors To The Surface“ für 29. August 2025 angekündigt. Erscheinen wir die Platte via Pelagic Records. Einen Höreindruck des neuen Materials der Schweizer Sludge / Doom Metal-Band vermittelt die Auskopplung „Pearl Eyes„.

Zuvor präsentierte die Gruppe das Stück „Unwinding Spirits„, an dem auch ZEAL & ARDOR-Mastermind Manuel Gagneux mitwirkt.

„Unwinding Spirits“ ging die Single „Blood“ voraus. Die Formation kommentiert zur Platte:

„Unser neues Album, das im Jahr 2022 fertiggestellt wurde, spiegelt eine Zeit tiefgreifender Veränderungen und Widerstandsfähigkeit wider. Es ist ein Zeugnis dafür, wie Herausforderungen überwunden und Neuanfänge angenommen wurden, sowohl persönlich als auch kreativ. Die Tatsache, dass das neue Album erst drei Jahre später erscheint, ist nicht zuletzt auf die Bewältigung von schweren Lebensherausforderungen und tiefgreifenden Veränderungen zurückzuführen. Das neue Album ist der Nachfolger des Vorgängeralbums ‚Silk Spiders Underwater‘, mit dem die Geschichte begann. Mit Bring Mirrors To The Surface wird die Geschichte nun zu Ende erzählt.“

Die Punk Rock-Band MARATHONMANN meldet sich mit einem neuen Album zurück: „Poltergeist“ erscheint am 15. Oktober 2025 via Redfield Records auf CD, Vinyl sowie digital. Die Platte enthält elf Tracks, darunter auch die neue Single „Deflektorschild“, die es u.a. via YouTube zu hören gibt.

Das Stück folgt auf die Songs „Vertigo“ sowie „The Darkness“, welcher als Audio-Stream bei allen gängigen Anbietern abrufbar ist.

Auch den vorherigen Track „Memento“ gibt es auf einigen bekannten Streaming-Plattformen zu hören. Nach dem von den 80ern inspirierten Synth-Rock-Album „Maniac“ (2023) bewegen sich die Münchner mit der neuen Single stilistisch wieder zurück zu ihren Wurzeln.

Im Herbst 2025 folgt eine Headline-Tournee unter dem Motto „Nie wieder Licht“. Tickets sind u.a. via eventim.de verfügbar (Termine s. unten).

SIENA ROOT haben eine Live-Platte aufgenommen: „Made In KuBa“ ist ein Doppelalbum, das am 3. Oktober 2025 via Perception auf CD, Vinyl sowie digital erscheinen wird. Mitgeschnitten wurden dafür im März 2024 drei Shows im Kulturbahnhof in Jena. Einen Höreindruck verschafft der Track „Wishing For More„, außerdem gibt es neu ein Video zu „Outlander„.

„Made In KuBa“ wurde in halber Geschwindigkeit gemastert, wie die Schweden erläutern:

„Halfspeed-Mastering ist ein klassisches Verfahren, das Vinylfans besonders zu schätzen wissen. Es ist ebenjenes sensible, hochkomplexe Verfahren, das ‚Made in KuBa‘ zu einem rundum gelungenen Hörerlebnis macht – für euch, aber natürlich auch für uns!“

Im Oktober folgt dann eine Europatournee.

Die Psychedelic Rock / Doom-Band BOGWIFE hat vier Jahre nach „A Passage Divine“ (2021) ein neues Album angekündigt. „From Ashes“ erscheint am 29. Oktober 2025 via Majestic Mountain Records. Die Platte enthält acht Tracks, einen davon gibt es mit „Shivering“ jetzt als Audiostream via bandcamp.

Produziert wurde „From Ashes“ von Jacob Bredahl, das Artwork gestaltete Jo Riou.

„Teamwork makes the dream work.” Was als platter Slogan auf unzähligen Motivationspostern der Arbeitsmoral in Wirklichkeit wohl kaum zuträglich ist, hat aber durchaus einen wahren Kern. Warum also die Kooperation auf das eigene Bandgefüge beschränken, wenn man gemeinsam aus einem doppelt so großen Kreativitätspool schöpfen kann? Die Stolperfalle ist in diesem Fall meist die Koordination, weshalb es eine kleine Meisterleistung ist, wie perfekt „Bloom In Heaven“ letztlich zueinander findet.

Keine Split im klassischen Sinn, sondern ein tatsächliches Gemeinschaftsunterfangen spielt sich über insgesamt drei Songs ab, welche INVENT ANIMATE und SILENT PLANET zu einer Quintessenz beider Formationen destillieren. Deren letzte Studioalben „Heavener“ (2023) und „SUPERBLOOM“ (2023) dienten als Referenz, als Ausgangspunkt; das Resultat ist sowohl Fortführung als auch Symbiose der beiden Modern Metalcore-Alben.

SILENT PLANET und INVENT ANIMATE vermischen auf „Bloom In Heaven“ ihre Trademarks in beeindruckender Weise
Zu erkennen ist diese Absicht bereits im Opener „Return To One“, der in lyrischer Hinsicht gespickt ist mit Querverweisen auf die Songtitel der beiden Platten. Die Intensität schrauben die beiden Bands anfangs nach oben, mischen ein energisches Industrial-Gewand mit den ätherisch anmutenden Clean-Gitarren von „Heavener“. Tempowechsel und zurückgenommene Passagen sorgen für Dynamik, während Marcus Viks (INVENT ANIMATE) unverkennbarer Klargesang durch Mark und Bein geht.

Noch deutlicher kommt dieser Spagat im abschließenden „Armageddon Eyes“ zum Tragen, wo ein leichtfüßiges Piano durch die dichte Klanglandschaft tänzelt, während sowohl SILENT PLANET also auch INVENT ANIMATE dem Song auf schwer erklärliche Weise ihren Stempel aufdrücken. Ein Querverweis auf das „Return To One“-Riff schließt überdies den Kreis, der im Mittelteil mit dem ruhigen „All The Light Is Gone“ sogar nachdenkliche Töne anschlägt. Vielleicht ist es tatsächlich an der Zeit, für die Proberäume dieser Welt einen Schwung Motivationsposter zu drucken. Die Szene könnte es gut gebrauchen.
