„‚Blue and Cold‘ wurde durch den Verlust eines engen Freundes und Bandkollegen inspiriert, der in meinen Armen starb. Es ist ein Song, der aus Trauer, dem Kampf ums Durchhalten und den bleibenden Eindrücken dieser Nacht entstanden ist.“

Entnommen ist die Nummer der EP „I Am The Way To Oblivion“.  Zuvor stellte die Band den Song „Let It In“ mit einem Musikvideo bei YouTube vor. Zum Song selbst hat die Band Folgendes zu sagen:

„Ein Abstieg in die Besessenheit und der Kampf um Kontrolle. ‘Let It In’ handelt von den Zyklen, aus denen wir nicht ausbrechen können, und der Dunkelheit, die darum bittet, hereingelassen zu werden.“

Aufgenommen wurde „I Am The Way To Oblivion“ von Chris LeMasters. Die Produktion übernahm die Band selbst, wohingegen Lance Prenc für Mix und Mastering verantwortlich zeichnet.

„Suadade“ entstand im Januar 2025 im Eyeball Studio in Portugal,  Jon Markson hat es anschließend gemischt und gemastert. Die Aufnahmen in Portugal schlugen sich im Titel nieder: Das portugiesische Wort „Saudade“ steht für das Gefühl von Sehnsucht. Er leitet sich vom lateinischen Wort für Einsamkeit ab.

IMPUREZA veröffentlichten ihr drittes Studioalbum: „Alcázares“ erschien am 11. Juli 2025 via Season Of Mist und befasst sich inhaltlich mit dem spanischen Mittelalter und seinem Kampf zwischen christlichen Königreichen und Al-Andalus. Nach dem Lyric-Video „Reconquistar Al-Ándalus“ bietet nun das Video-Clip zu „Covadonga“ weitere Höreindrücke.

Mit „Verdiales & Bajo las Tizonas de Toledo“ gibt es außerdem einen weiteren Video-Clip.

„Das als zweiteilige Komposition angelegte Stück eröffnet das Album mit „Verdiales“, einer instrumentalen Hommage an die Volkstraditionen von Málaga, bevor es in die martialische Kraft von „Bajo las Tizonas de Toledo“ übergeht – eine Nacherzählung der legendären Heldentaten von El Cid: Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar (El Cid Campeador) taucht nicht nur als historische Figur auf, sondern auch als gespenstischer Archetyp von Rache und Tapferkeit, wobei sein mythisches Schwert Tizona im Mittelpunkt der lyrischen und musikalischen Wildheit des Stücks steht“, heißt es von Seiten der Band.

Eine zweite Single ist in Form des Lyric-Videos „La Orden del Yelmo Negro“ abrufbereit.

Die erste Auskopplung „Pestilencia“ handelt von der Pest und ihrer Auswirkung auf Spanien.

Produziert und gemischt wurde „Alcázares“ von Sébastian Camhi, das Mastering übernahm Jacob Hansen. Das Artwork gestalteten Johann Bodin und Xavier Ribeiro.

Just four days after the single first prickled the air, Sparks return with a video that needles its way into absurd brilliance.

Porcupine is a sly dart of a song, equal parts smirk and sting. The Mael brothers lean into the comedy of contradictions: affection laced with barbs, tenderness wrapped in tin foil sarcasm. Russell delivers his lines with a kind of regal mischief, voice darting between sincerity and mockery. Ron’s keyboard phrases tumble with a practiced eccentricity, jaunty yet deliberate, as if winking through each chord.

The lyric sketches a woman edged in angles, resistant to embrace yet impossible to ignore. The tune masquerades as a playground chant while smuggling in sharper insights about the way people bruise and beguile each other. Sparks have long mastered this balance: triviality with teeth, humour cut against humanity.

Fred Rowson’s video frames the song’s whimsy with slapstick theatre. A trench-coated femme fatale stalks through a half-built construction site, her gaze cool, her posture impatient. Sparks play their part like animated spectators, while she turns menace into pantomime: the climax arrives as she commandeers a steamroller, gunning straight for the brothers in a sequence pulled from Looney Tunes’ rulebook. The chase is as ridiculous as it is delightful.

Here Sparks affirm their own strange durability. Few bands can stitch satire into such sweet melodies and then wrap it in imagery so unabashedly cartoonish. “Porcupine” lands like a sly wink across decades, reminding us that Sparks remain pop’s great jesters and, somehow, its most serious observers.

Chicago’s BELLHEAD recently unleashed THREATS, a seven-track barrage engineered by Neil Strauch and mastered by Carl Saff. THREATS is out now via Oppressive Sky Records, packing five new tracks alongside two remixes that twist and transform BELLHEAD’s signature sound. Darkwave upstarts Clubdrugs inject Heart Shaped Hole with a hallucinatory haze, dragging listeners through a haunted dreamscape. States of Independence is a living excavation of the subterranean world that shaped the sound of modern independent music. Across thirteen episodes of its first season, the new podcast series traces the raw beginnings and unruly brilliance of Beggars Banquet, a label that grew out of the punk explosion and still stands tall five decades on.

The voice guiding this exploration is Rob Fitzpatrick, music journalist and seasoned podcast producer. For him, this story carries a personal charge. At 20, he was stacking vinyl in the Beggars Banquet shop in Kingston, Surrey. “The most incredible musical education,” he recalls. He left in 1996, but the fascination, by his own admission, a curiously emotional attachment, never loosened its grip.

The story Fitzpatrick and his guests tell is not a clean ascent but a jagged arc, one marked by extinction scares as much as triumphs. What began as a punk-era shop front now extends across some of the most important imprints in independent music: 4AD, XL, Matador, Rough Trade, Young. Together, they form a constellation that defines an era – and attitude – built from resourcefulness, resistance, and fierce independence.

Season One begins with Martin Mills, the founder whose vision, good fortune, and stubborn nerve carried Beggars from a cramped shop floor to a global indie empire. Mills’ memories are as sharp as ever. “We had 2000 pounds each. It got us a lease in Earl’s Court. It got us some stock. Steve [Webbon] knew how to buy new records. I knew how to buy old records, and Nick [Austin] knew how to bullshit.”

When punk detonated in 1976, the second shop in Fulham found its purpose. Mills laughs at the recall: “‘Suddenly it was all about going down to Red Cow and getting spat on.’” Opportunism turned into action. The label itself was born when Mills and Austin released the debut from The Lurkers, “a very good two-chord punk band. Though they learned a third chord eventually.”

Beggars’ first star blazed fast and bright. Gary Numan’s single Are ‘Friends’ Electric? shot to number one in 1979, turning a fledgling operation into a phenomenon overnight. “With Gary, it felt like the Beatles,” Mills says. But sudden triumph was a trial by fire. “There definitely was no instruction manual.” For Numan, just 21 at the time, the glare was bruising. “I thought it was gonna be more fun, I didn’t expect all the hostility that came with it… You know, people writing things about you as if you’ve just done the most evil thing.”

That dynamic of instant recognition coupled with chaos would become familiar across the label’s roster. The Cult, The Fall, The Go-Betweens, The Charlatans, Peter Murphy, Bauhaus, Love And Rockets, Gene Loves Jezebel, Buffalo Tom, The Bolshoi: each orbiting the Beggars universe, each reshaping its gravity. “They were the band that literally stopped the cheques from bouncing,” Mills admits of The Cult, whose stadium-era success pulled the company back from collapse.

States of Independence launches September 11th with Martin Mills, The Lurkers, and Gary Numan at the microphone. Two years in the making, the series promises not nostalgia, but memory sharpened into testimony. A record of independence, told by those who built it with bare hands and blank cheques.

Ladytron reappear with I Believe in You, a song that moves like an invocation, half-sermon, half-celebration. This return arrives in the wake of unexpected renewal. Their early single Seventeen erupted on TikTok, catching a new generation in its teeth, while Destroy Everything You Touch was threaded through Saltburn, sliding Ladytron’s voice into a different cinematic consciousness. That they appear now with new work is less a comeback than a continuation; one of those rare instances where history curves into the present with a peculiar inevitability.

There is a sense of ritual from the first note of I Believe In You, each phrase delivered with a calm insistence, as though the music had been smuggled from some candlelit gathering and poured into the circuitry of a drum machine. Helen Marnie’s voice hovers above the synthetic architecture, steady yet tremulous, guiding the track toward a horizon that feels both radiant and uncertain.

The piece is built on repetition, but repetition as persuasion: a rhythm that circles, intensifies, and compels. It presses forward with the persistence of belief itself: a mantra tapped out on glowing keys. The synths swell in layers, bright and brittle, while the percussion flicks and locks into place, giving the impression of something sacred disguised as nightclub ritual.

The accompanying film, directed by Daniel Hunt, amplifies that sense of compulsion. What begins as a congregation soon tips into delirium: faces painted with light, bodies clothed in strange vestments, gestures sharpening into frenzy in a space that feels like a tent revival on the set of 2001: A Space Odyssey. The red hue saturates the frame like an alarm, and the choreography slips from orderly procession to an ecstatic collapse. Dance becomes devotion, devotion becomes possession. It is an unsettling parable for our age, when conviction so often curdles into collective mania, whether it be organized religion or blindly following a corrupt politician — it’s all the same. We love to fall for the same sweet talk.

From late-millennium Liverpool basements, through the temporary label of electroclash, to their steady rejection of categories, they have been less a band than an atmosphere; one that made cheap instruments sing and made pop feel both mechanised and ceremonial. That quality remains here. I Believe in You feels like both a call and a response: a song that addresses the listener but also answers the doubt of absence, and a reminder that belief, in music as in life, is sustained by repetition and return. Ladytron extend the invitation again, and the spell holds.

Ladytron today also announces their return to the stage with a limited run of UK shows in 2026. They’ll reemerge in their hometown of Liverpool, followed by dates in Manchester and Newcastle.

Zabus returns with Strangers of Non-Being, a hallucinatory video single that feels less like a performance and more like an incantation. The single arrives as the second single from Whores of Holyrood, Zabus’s fifth full-length in under two years. It is an unflinching song of confrontation, where Moore’s voice inhabits both beast and witness, and the music itself sounds like the sound of a country standing on its own fractured threshold.

The track unfurls as a séance of guitars, drones, and guttural rhythms carrying the weight of prophecy, each phrase pressed with the urgency of confession. At its core, the track has a psychedelic rock/gothic sound, drawing on diverse influences from the introspective balladry of Nick Cave, Tom Waits, or Michael Gira, to the trance-inducing drones of Spacemen 3, The Velvet Underground, and The Doors, to the hard rock of Lucifuge-era Danzig. Meanwhile, discordant avant-garde flourishes highlight urban and societal decay, a central lyrical theme to the album. Noise elements have been fused with traditional arrangements to create a new way of viewing and broadcasting a world crippled by corruption, religious perversity and devolution.

“With Strangers Of Non-Being, I wanted to convey what I believe are the two primary contributors to systemic generational discrimination and oppression—human instinct and established societal power dynamics,” says frontman Jeremy Moore. “In this reality, the power dynamic has been perpetually lopsided in one single direction. In an alternate reality, if the roles were switched, who’s to say it would be any different? The irony is that a human’s capacity for evil is the grand unifier beyond religion, race, ethnicity, or gender identification… Yet a human’s capacity for kindness in the face of primal instinct connects us in a transcendental way, and has the power to destroy fear based barriers permanently. The choice is ours…”

The video, directed by Moore, unfolds as a fever montage of archival fragments and uncanny tableaux, stitched together with the logic of a sanitarium nightmare. A woman drifts in a hospital bed while her mind cycles through endless corridors, grim historical portraits of evil, and unsettling sketches clawed from the recesses of the psyche.

Formed in 2023 as a loose congregation of players, Zabus has taken many shapes, but Whores of Holyrood marks a rare moment of solitary authorship. Moore performs every note, folding influences from dark blues, American folk, and avant-garde abrasion into a sound both raw and unorthodox. The record dissects the corrosive loop between authoritarian cruelty and civic paralysis, with Holyrood offered as allegory for entrenched hierarchies feeding upon resignation.

Produziert wurde „Time“ von der Band in Zusammenarbeit mit Marc Ayerle. Letzterer übernahm überdies Mix und Mastering. Das Artwork gestaltete Michael Vetter.

SIENA ROOT haben eine Live-Platte aufgenommen: „Made In KuBa“ ist ein Doppelalbum, das am 3. Oktober 2025 via Perception auf CD, Vinyl sowie digital erscheinen wird. Mitgeschnitten wurden dafür im März 2024 drei Shows im Kulturbahnhof in Jena. Einen Höreindruck verschafft der Track „Wishing For More„, außerdem gibt es nach dem Video zu „Outlander„ jetzt auch den Clip „Tales of Independence„.

„Made In KuBa“ wurde in halber Geschwindigkeit gemastert, wie die Schweden erläutern:

„Halfspeed-Mastering ist ein klassisches Verfahren, das Vinylfans besonders zu schätzen wissen. Es ist ebenjenes sensible, hochkomplexe Verfahren, das ‚Made in KuBa‘ zu einem rundum gelungenen Hörerlebnis macht – für euch, aber natürlich auch für uns!“

Im Oktober folgt dann eine Europatournee.

Es ist die alte Leier: das selbstbetitelte Album als ein Statement; die Gewissheit, endlich sich selbst gefunden zu haben. Dass die Quintessenz RIVERS OF NIHILs ausgerechnet auf einen nicht unbeträchtlichen Besetzungswechsel folgt, zeugt jedenfalls von einem gesunden Selbstbewusstsein. Dass dieses indes keineswegs unbegründet ist, erfahren wir im Verlauf der rund 50 Minuten gleich mehrfach.

„Rivers Of Nihil“ startet mit dem eingängigen „The Sub-Orbital Blues“ stampfend im Midtempo und nutzt diesen griffigen Einstieg, um die verschiedensten Ecken ihres charakteristischen Sounds auszuloten. Progressiv gestaltet das Quartett seinen Death Metal natürlich immer noch aus, tauscht psychedelische oder sperrige Exkurse aber gegen einen fokussierten Ansatz.

Mitunter gehen RIVERS OF NIHIL überaus feinfühlig zu Werke
Als Gesamtwerk wirkt die Platte geschlossen, obwohl sich die Klanglandschaften in aller Regelmäßigkeit öffnen, nicht nur um dem Saxofon von Gastmusiker Patrick Corona den nötigen Raum zuzugestehen. Das warme Instrument ist integraler Bestandteil der weit angelegten Kompositionen von „House Of Light“ oder „Water & Time“, wo RIVERS OF NIHIL teils erstaunlich feinfühlig zu Werke gehen und sich durchaus auch auf den durchdringenden Klargesang Andy Thomas‘ stützen.

Der Neuzugang an der Gitarre ist für den Ansatz der Band ein hörbarer Zugewinn, der mit den aggressiven Growls von Bassist Adam Biggs erstaunlich gut harmoniert („Dustman“). Komplexität und Zugänglichkeit halten sich dadurch die Waage, obschon nicht jeder Track zwingend eine klar gesungene Hook benötigt hätte. Dass „Criminals“ phasenweise an eine eigenwillige Kreuzung aus GOJIRA und MASTODON erinnert, ist dafür eine ausgleichende Entschädigung, die wir gerne akzeptieren.

„Rivers Of Nihil“ hat Selbstbewusstsein und Charakter
Selbst in seinen ruhigeren Augenblicken setzt „Rivers Of Nihil“ auf Vielschichtigkeit und sei es nur durch das verspielte Drumming, das im wundervollen „Water & Time“ viel zum Flow beiträgt, im bissigen „Evidence“ allerdings auch von einer Sekunde auf die andere die Intensität anziehen kann.

All das lassen RIVERS OF NIHIL auf elegante Weise zueinanderfinden, so dass wir letzten Endes die Titelwahl der nunmehr fünften Platte trotz des vorherigen Umbruchs überhaupt nicht mehr in Frage stellen wollen. Hier zeigt sich eine Band mit Vision und dem Werkzeug, diese Realität werden zu lassen. Selbstbewusstsein und Charakter? „Rivers Of Nihil“ hat von beidem mehr als genug.

EISREGEN feiern ihr 30-jähriges Bestehen mit einer Neuauflage ihres Albums „Krebskolonie“ (1998): Erscheinen wird diese am 26. September 2025 als 2CD-Mediabook sowie als Doppel-LP. Einen Clip zum Titeltrack gibt es bei YouTube.

Auf „Krebskolonie“ enthalten ist außerdem eine Neuinterpretation den Tracks „Futter für die Schweine“. Produziert wurde „Krebskolonie“ von Andy Classen, das Remastering übernahm Markus Stock.

Darüber hinaus sind für das Jubiläum weitere Aktionen geplant. So soll am 26. und 27. September 2025 das Heimatfest im Erfurter „From Hell“-Club neu aufgelegt werden.

Hier wie auf der folgenden Tour mit SHIRENC PLAYS PUNGENT STENCH und MAAHES soll es zudem Lieder von „Krebskolonie“ live zu hören geben, wie die Band in einem Statement erklärte:

„[…] ja, 2025 wird die ‚Krebskolonie‘ zurückkehren. Wir haben mit unseren Anwälten ein paar entscheidende Schlachten mit der Prüfstelle ausgefochten, von den 22 ehemals indizierten Liedern der beanstandeten Alben haben wir 17 wieder frei bekommen. Geplant ist, die „Krebskolonie“ zum HEIMATFEST als 2CD-Mediabook und (erstmals überhaupt) als Doppel-LP neu aufzulegen.

Die Progressive Groove Metal-Band RHYGOR hat nach „Relics“ mit „I’m Going Home“ eine weitere neue Single mitsamt Video-Clip veröffentlicht.

„“I’m Going Home“ ist eine Geschichte aus der Perspektive einer psychisch kranken Person, die mit Angst, Unruhe und Depressionen zu kämpfen hat. Aus ihrer Sicht wird eine psychiatrische Klinik oft zu ihrem zweiten Zuhause, und ihre Rückkehr zur Behandlung wird zu einer Allegorie für die Rückkehr nach Hause“, erklärt die Band.

Die Songs werden Teil der EP „Faded Relics“ sein  – dem ersten Release der Polen rund um Sänger Olgierd Gontarczyk (PARAHUMAN). Die EP wurde von Robert Wawro gemixt und gemastert.

Der Song handelt von einer dunklen Geschichte über eine Person, die unter posttraumatischer Schizophrenie leidet und sich ihrer psychischen Gesundheit bewusst ist. Davor hat die Band aus Finnland mit ihrer EP „Withered Petunia“ debütiert.
