Im Zuge dessen werden die US-Amerikaner aus New York ihr neues Album „Death Never Sleeps“ veröffentlichen. Es ist nach „Ageless Violence“ (2020) das zweite Album der 2017 gegründeten Band rund um Sänger Doug Moore (PYRRHON, SCARCITY, SEPUTUS).

„Death Never Sleeps“ wurde von Joe Cincotta aufgenommen und gemixt und von Ryan Williams (NECROMANCING THE STONE, Ex-THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER) gemastert. Das Cover-Artwork stammt von Dan Seagrave.

BEHEMOTH veröffentlichten ihr 13. Studioalbum: „The Shit Ov God“ erschien am 9. Mai 2025 via Nuclear Blast, zum Release teilte die Gruppe den Clip „Sowing Salt“. Jetzt legten die Polen nochmals nach und haben ein Video zu „Avgvr (The Dread Vvltvre)“ produziert.

Frontman Nergal erklärt den Albumtitel: Wir haben diesen provokanten Titel bewusst gewählt und auf jegliche Subtilität verzichtet, um eine direkte und polarisierende Aussage zu treffen. Es ist ein trotziger Sprung in die Tiefe, der es wagt, das Absolute auch in der Gosse zu suchen.“

Zuletzt haben BEHEMOTH mit „Lvciferaeon“ einen dritten Song ausgekoppelt. Er folgt auf „The Shadow Elite“, der zweiten Single von „The Shit Ov God“. Ein Video zum Titelsong auf YouTube ist seit Ende Januar zu sehen.

Jens Bogren hat das Album im Fascination Street Studio produziert, das Artwork kommt von Bartek Rogalewicz und Dark Sigil Workshop.

Die Power Metal-Band BLOODBOUND arbeitet künftig mit Napalm Records zusammen. Die erste gemeinsame Veröffentlichung ist das Album „Field Of Swords“, das am 21. November 2025 auf CD, Vinyl sowie digital erscheinen wird.

Mit „Defenders Of Jerusalem“ ist die erste Single ab sofort als Clip bei YouTube zu sehen. Zum Inhalt erklärt Gitarrist Tomas Olsson:

Unsere ersten Proben waren im Herbst 2000, Konzerte gaben wir aber erst 2002. Von Anfang galt für uns eine Regel: ‚Wenn es nicht fertig ist, ist es nicht fertig.‘ Deshalb sind fast sechs Jahre seit unserem letzten Album Purgatory vergangen. Wir haben uns wieder Zeit gelassen und sind erst jetzt bereit, ein neues Kapitel aufzuschlagen und unser bisher ausgereiftestes und dynamischstes Album zu veröffentlichen – dabei bleiben wir dem Sound und dem Spirit treu, den wir mitgeprägt haben.“

Kinder, wie die Zeit vergeht! Ich trage heute noch leidenschaftlich gerne ein Shirt des vorletzten Albums “Finisterre” (vor acht Jahren erschienen). Es kommt mir fast wie gestern vor, dass wir am 18.11.2021 im Berliner SO36 pandemiebedingt das einzige Indoor-Livekonzert des Jahres mit DER WEG EINER FREIHEIT als Headliner (btw. eines der geilsten Konzerte meines Lebens ever!) besuchten. Nun sind die Post Black Metal-Pioniere aus der Dunkelheit emporgestiegen und entlassen eine Klanggewalt, wie sie typischer für das Quartett um Nikita Kamprad nicht sein könnte. 

Was dem Hörer hier dargeboten wird, ist nichts anderes als eine Black Metal-Planierraupe, die über alles hinweg walzt, was sich ihr in den Weg stellt. Die Erwartungen an das neue Material sind groß, so sind DWEF dafür bekannt, ohne Kompromisse ein Meisterwerk nach dem nächsten zu releasen. Nicht ohne Grund einer meiner Favorite-Artists. Jede Scheibe transportiert eine Botschaft. Jede Message soundgewaltig und explosiv vorgetragen. So ist jedes neue Werk zwar unverkennbar im Stil der Band vertont und doch immer einzigartig. 

Auf “Innern” wird die Abkehr von Äußerlichkeiten hin zu der persönlichen Abrechnung, Stille und Erneuerung in Inneren thematisiert. 

Mit “Marter” gelingt es der Band, dem Hörer den perfekten Einstieg in die Klangwelt der neuen LP zu ermöglichen. Einem düsteren, sich schleichend aufbauenden Intro folgen markante Drumlines, melancholisch und kalt gespielte Gitarren, die sich in Kombination immer weiter in den Track hineinsteigern, um sich dann in opulenter Härte und hinreißender Melodie zu ergießen. 

Der zweite Track “Xibalba” wäre, würde man mich danach fragen, mein Anspieltipp des Albums. Für mich der beste und einprägsamste Track. Wobei die Abstufungen von Titel zu Titel ungemein flach zu verstehen sind. Mäht der Titel zu Beginn alles nieder, entfalten sich zeitnah epische Melodien mit orchestralen Backingvocals. Beinahe in Trance schwebt man für zwei Drittel der Lauflänge von über zehn Minuten durch “Xibalba”, um ab Minute 6:30 in die Leere zu fallen. Da ist nichts als Tiefe. Beinahe traurig stimmend schaffen die sich entfaltenden Klanglandschaften eine melancholische Schwere, die sich tief in das Gehör frisst. 

“Eos”, im Übrigen die erste Singleauskopplung von “Innern”, thematisiert Grausam direkt Krieg und Erneuerung. Der Kontrast aus dem Tod der alten Welt und dem Neubeginn einer posthumanen Zukunft.  

Ein Textauszug: 

“Schwere, rote Erde erdrückt das Reich, verdunkelt vor der Sonne. Doch die Kraft der Sterne erweckt ein schlafendes Geflecht, das sich durch die Feuchte kämpft, aus Rot wird Grün. Die Erde tanzt.” 

Mit “Fragment” liefern und DWEF hingegen einen scharfen Kontrast zu den bislang gelieferten Brettern. In der ersten Hälfte des Stückes vorrangig klar vorgetragene Vocals schaffen, beinahe zerbrechlich gesungen, eine bedrückend melancholische Stimmung, sich alsbald wieder in Raserei verlierend, ohne hierbei die Atmosphäre zunichtezumachen. 

Eine kurze Verschnaufpause wird dem Hörer mit “Finisterre III” geboten. Ein exakt zweiminütiges Klaviersolo verwöhnt die Ohren. Ein Solo, welches eine Art Spannung schafft, die sich in einem sanften Übergang zu “Forlorn” abbaut. In diesem bereits letzten Stück des Albums präsentieren sich DER WEG EINER FREIHEIT verletzlich wie noch nie. Sehr an Post Rock erinnernde, dahinplätschernde Gitarrenspuren überlagern sich mit dem ausnahmsweise mal auf Englisch vorgetragenen Gesang von Kamprad. Auch hier folgt ab etwa der Hälfte des Songs pure Härte – wohl aber keine Melodien vermissen lassend. Das perfekte Grande Finale dieser unglaublich gut gelungenen Platte.  DER WEG EINER FREIHEIT beweisen einmal mehr, dass sie zurecht als eine der Größen des Genres im Post Black Metal gehandelt werden. Ein absolutes Highlight und meiner Meinung nach eines der bislang besten Alben des Jahres – ich würde sogar so weit gehen und diese Platte als eines der besten Alben von DER WEG EINER FREIHEIT überhaupt betiteln – wobei die bisherige Diskografie dieser Ausnahmekünstler eiskalt und (beinahe) unübertrefflich ist…

Die Black Metal-Band FLESIA hat mit „Achterbahnekstase“ ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist nach „Trost“ (2021) das zweite Album der Deutschen aus Leipzig, die ohne Gitarren auskommen. Die Achterbahnfahrt, die der Titel des Albums suggeriert, spiegele die Reise wider, die der Zuhörer durchlebt, während er sich durch die drei Tracks transzendentaler Gewitter wühlt oder gewaltsam hindurchgeschoben wird.

„Achterbahnekstase“ wurde von Tim De Gieter (DOODSESKADER, Ex-AMENRA) im Much Luv Studio gemixt und gemastert, während das Cover-Artwork aus der Feder von Geleeregen stammt. Erscheinen wird das Album am 31. Oktober 2025 via Cultkill Music. Für das 2024 gegründete Label ist es der erste full-length-Relese. Vorab gibt es den Opener „Druck“ zu hören.

When Andreas Catjar-Danielsson left this world in the very early morning of July 29, 2024, it still came as a shock to his relatives and friends including his former band mates in COVENANT. Although the musicians had known for a while that their beloved friend and colleague was losing his epic struggle with cancer, the realisation of it actually happening landed with such a massive impact that nobody ever could have prepared for.

Exactly a year after this dreadful day, COVENANT have announced the “Andreas EP”, which is the Swedes’ first release in nearly a decade. The EP is a tribute to the dear friend and colleague lost but also intended for charity as all proceeds will be going to Andreas Catjar-Danielsson’s widow and their two children. “Andreas EP” contains five experimental tracks including two cover versions by YAZOO (“Winter Kills”) and LEE HAZLEWOOD (‘A Rider on a White Horse’).
 

COVENANT were conceived in the city of Helsingborg in Sweden’s southernmost province of Skåne, only a short boat trip away from Helsingør on the Danish side of the water in 1988 by a bunch of young lads that were inspired by the flourishing scene of European electronic music spearheaded by bands such as DEPECHE MODE, KRAFTWERK, THE HUMAN LEAGUE, and FRONT 242 to name but a few. COVENANT chose their name as a symbol of the especially strong bond of friendship that they shared.
 
Emerging from the parent’s basements and recording in their bedrooms, COVENANT were invited to publish their song ‘The Replicant’ on a label sampler in 1992, which created such a buzz that it was followed by a record deal. It took two more years, before the Swedes’ album debut ‘Dreams of a Cryotank’ detonated onto the electro scene with a massive impact in December 1994. The rest is already musical history.
 
Throughout their outstanding career, which is currently spanning nine acclaimed studio full-lengths and two live albums, COVENANT have always moved forward, searched for new exciting ways of expression, and pushed the boundaries of electronic music. Emotional intelligence combined with excellent musical craftsmanship, and a knack for catchy tunes has brought the Northern Europeans to the forefront of electronic music and made them a household name of the scene.

Dependent Records support this charity with all their hearts and will waive all proceeds from the “Andreas EP”.

OMEN CODE are the new rising star on the EBM firmament. Deep, dark, and gritty industrial sounds are channelled into captivating mid-tempo tracks that create the atmospheric feeling of a dystopian future ruled by technology and marked by social decline.

This grimdark science fiction approach is not meant to indicate that OMEN CODE embrace any political agenda or message. Rather the international duo took inspiration from the writings of Philip K. Dick and Alfred Bester as well as cinematic masterpieces by British director Ridley Scott such as “Alien” and “Blade Runner” among others. 

OMEN CODE were originally intended as a one-time project by Kevin Gould. The engineer, programmer, and lyricist was a member of the English Industrial EBM trio JOHNSON ENGINEERING CO. together with Sean Bailey and Ian Hicks, which released the album “Unleash” in 1988. He went on to found the electro-industrial act ELECTRO ASSASSIN with Ian Taylor. Following the release of “Jamming the Voice of the Universe” (1992), Taylor was replaced by Richard McKinlay with whom the next albums “Bioculture” (1993) and “The Divine Invasion” (1995) were recorded.

When vocalist and lyricist Agi Taralas was hand-picked from a stack of applications for the frontman position, the chemistry between the two artists proved so productive and strong that Gould and Taralas decided together to turn OMEN CODE into a permanent project that would also aim to perform live. The vocalist had already left his mark on the scene in a joint project with German electronic musician Stefan Böhm under the moniker OUR BANSHEE that released an album entitled “4200” in 2017.

Whether you want to indulge in shady dreams and evoke sinister futuristic images in cinemascopic visions or just move to dark electronics on the dancefloor, OMEN CODE offer the perfect soundscapes for both approaches to their music with the grandiose debut album “Alpha State”!

Icon Of Coil: ‘Serenity Is The Devil (25th Anniversary Remaster)’

Icon of Coil is a Norwegian futurepop/EBM band formed in 1997 by musician and producer Andy LaPlegua (who later went on to create Combichrist). Initially started as a solo project, it quickly grew into a full band with the addition of Sebastian Komor in 1999 and Christian Lund in 2000.

Blending driving electronic beats, melodic synth lines and moody yet accessible vocals, they swiftly became one of the most influential acts in the dark electronic genre. Their debut album, ‘Serenity Is The Devil’ (2000), charted in the Top 3 of the German DAC Alternative Chart, with its follow-up ‘The Soul Is In The Software’ (2002), reaching the coveted no. 1. ‘Machines Are Us’ (2004) further solidified their reputation for combining club-ready energy with introspective, futuristic themes.

Known for their energetic live performances and a polished electronic sound, Icon of Coil toured extensively across Europe and North America, often alongside other scene leaders such as VNV Nation and Covenant. While the band has been largely inactive since the mid-2000s as members pursued other projects, their work continues to inspire the futurepop, industrial and electronic music scenes.

‘Serenity Is The Devil’ had been licensed to Metropolis Records for North America upon its original release. The label is now making an expanded 25th anniversary remastered edition available worldwide on 2xLP translucent orange vinyl and digitally.

The vinyl package features the previously unreleased ‘SEC FOUR’.

Based in Flensburg, North Germany, Moons in Retrograde is the Nightmare Trip-Pop / Dark Alt-Electro Hyperpop project of US-born musician and multimedia performance artist, Kara Kuckoo.

The new Moons in Retrograde single and video, ‘Mirror Obscura’, is released today (Friday 5 September 2025) for Bandcamp Friday, launching presales for the project’s forthcoming debut album, The Third Side of the Coin.

Discussing the themes behind ‘Mirror Obscura’, Kara says:

“Carl Jung said, “Everything that irritates us about others can lead us to an understanding of ourselves.” Mirror Obscura is about facing one’s own darkness through the infinite mirrors of other people. We tend to avoid and push away that which makes us uncomfortable, and therefore we cannot recognize ourselves within these mirrors. The song is about diving deep into the reflections, embracing one’s own dark side and accepting ourselves and others as flawed in the Mirror Obscura. When we can see ourselves fully, we can recognize all facets as being on a spectrum and not the perceived dualistic nature, which is the theme of The Third Side of The Coin. The video portrays the perceived duality of black and white and the madness within us as we avoid our own darkness. The elements of color are glimpses into the spectrum of wholeness. I especially wanted to shoot at sunrise because those moments of dusk and dawn are the magical spaces between day/light and night/dark, and the reflections of color and shadow dancing on the surface of the vast and deep ocean are the perfect representation of The Mirror Obscura.”

Performing as Moons in Retrograde since 2022, Kara Kuckoo is not only a musician but a theatrical multimedia installation artist, using costuming, staging, body-paint, dance, film and other media to create the dark and unsettling atmosphere of her online videos and unique performances.

Citing vast-ranging references to everyone from Heilung, IAMX, NIN, and The Birthday Massacre, Kara says: “Moons in Retrograde is about digging up and reflecting on buried emotions. Just like the moon, everyone and everything has a dark side and MIR dives into the dualistic nature of the universe and explores the tension of these two opposing forces. The music plays a tug of war between the perfection of universal chaos, the violent nature of life and an idealistic desire to bridge the growing gap in our polarized society. MIR weaves a soundscape which shines a light into the deepest corners of the mind and exposes the truth about the dark side of humanity while simultaneously discovering the core of the human soul.”

 

In the US, Kara’s previous music projects included prominent dark electro-industrial rock band In Winter, formed in her hometown of Cleveland, Ohio in 2003. Quickly becoming local favourites in the dark alternative scene, In Winter opened for The Birthday Massacre, Wednesday 13, The Genitorturers and others, and released one album, Murmur, in 2005, before Kara left the group the following year. She next embarked on the All Hamerican Tour (2006) as a backing vocalist with , before relocating to Las Vegas, Nevada. In Vegas, Kara and MC / producer Kielen King formed the dark trip-hop / ambient / downtempo duo, Azure Noir in 2007. Officially, Azure Noir disbanded in 2009 when Kara moved to Germany. However, Kara and King have continued to collaborate, with singles being released in 2010 and 2012, and murmurs about releasing new music together in the near future.

‘Mirror Obscura’, the new single and video from Moons in Retrograde, is out now: streaming from Spotify and all the usual outlets, and as a digital download from Bandcamp with all presales for Third Side of the Coin. The debut album is scheduled for release in “double EP” format on 20 October 2025.

Die Horror Punk Band THE OTHER meldet sich mit ihrem neuen Studioalbum „Alienated“ zurück, das am 31. Oktober 2025 über Massacre Records erscheinen wird – pünktlich zu Halloween. Nach ihrem Chart-Erfolg „Haunted“ aus dem Jahr 2020 markiert „Alienated“ eine Rückkehr zu den dunkleren, punkigen Wurzeln der Band. Die erste Single „I Give You the Creeps“ mit dazugehörigem Musikvideo unter der Regie von Gitarrist J. Ends ist nun online.

Nach 15 Jahren Pause kehrt die finnische Gothic Metal Band CHARON mit ihrer brandneuen Single „Fall of Angels“ zurück, die am 27. August 2025 über Ranka Kustannus veröffentlicht wurde. Der Track erscheint zeitgleich mit der ausverkauften „Fall of Angels Reunion Tour der Band“ in ihrer Heimat und markiert das Comeback eines der bekanntesten Namen der finnischen Gothic-Metal-Szene.

CHARON wurde 1992 in Raahe gegründet und gelangte mit ihrem 2002 erschienenen Album „Downhearted“ an die Spitze der finnischen Metal-Szene. Während ihrer aktiven Zeit veröffentlichte die Band insgesamt fünf Studioalben und eine Compilation.

„Die Diskussionen über die Veröffentlichung eines neuen Charon-Tracks begannen intern bereits vor der Ankündigung der Fall of Angels-Tour Anfang 2025. Wir wollten mit dieser Besetzung frische Musik auf den Tisch bringen – nicht nur als Teil der Tour-Setlist, sondern auch, um kommende Shows zu unterstützen und wieder eine sinnvolle Verbindung zu unserem Publikum herzustellen. Der neue Track ist eine reichhaltige Fusion aus dem modernen Charon und der melodischen, emotionalen Tiefe, die unsere Musik in den frühen 2000er Jahren geprägt hat – sowohl klanglich als auch textlich. Er zeigt Charon auf dem Höhepunkt seiner Identität und verkörpert die unverwechselbaren Qualitäten, die die Band ursprünglich während ihrer gefeierten Aufnahme- und Tournee-Ära auszeichneten – kühne, kompromisslose Rockelemente, mitreißende Gitarrenriffs und die unverwechselbare Stimme von JP Leppäluoto, dessen Interpretationsstil nach wie vor unübertroffen ist“, kommentiert die Band.
