Die Black Metal-Band CARACH ANGREN hat mit „The Cult of Kariba“ eine neue EP angekündigt. Davor haben die Niederländer sechs Alben veröffentlicht. Das letzte vor fünf Jahren („Franckensteina Strataemontanus“).

Ausgehend von historischen Legenden und obskurer regionaler Folklore greift die Band den Mythos der Weißen Dame von Schinveld wieder auf und erweitert ihn diesmal um eine neue, finstere Figur: Kariba. Inspiriert von echten Gedichten, vergessenen Theaterstücken und okkultem Symbolismus, stellt diese EP einen geheimen Kult vor, der Kariba wiederauferstehen lassen will – eine Giftmörderin und angebliche Hexe, deren Geist ein Vermächtnis der Rache in sich trägt.

Mit dem Video zu „The Resurrection of Kariba“ gibt es nun eine zweite Single.

„Als Kernstück der Erzählung verkörpert der Titel sowohl rituelle Erhabenheit als auch verheerende Tragik. Zu Beginn versammelt sich die Sekte bei Kerzenschein in einer unterirdischen Krypta unter dem Boden einer Kirche, um Kariba, die sagenumwobene Giftmörderin und angebliche Hexe aus der Legende von Schinveld, zu beschwören. Die Musik beschwört diese Szene durch vielschichtige Orchestrierung, schneidende Gitarren und rituelle Intensität herauf, bevor sie sich Karibas Herkunft zuwendet: Als Hexe verurteilt, gezwungen, die Hinrichtung ihrer Kinder mitanzusehen, bringen ihre Trauer und ihr Gift eine monströse Wiedergeburt hervor“, heißt es vom Label.

„The Cult of Kariba“ wurde von Patrick Damiani produziert und wird am 17. Oktober 2025 via Season of Mist erscheinen. Vorab gibt es auch zu „Ik Kom Uit Het Graf“ einen Video-Clip. Die Handlung des Tracks basiert auf der Fortsetzung des Lammendam-Mythos und handelt von der gespenstischen Rückkehr eines Mannes, der von der Hexe Kariba vergiftet wurde. Durch das fehlgeleitete Ritual eines geheimen Kultes erweckt, erhebt er sich aus seinem Grab, um in einem seit Jahrhunderten vorbereiteten Akt der Gewalt Rache zu nehmen.

To be bored is to inhabit a peculiar stillness, as if the days have set themselves adrift with no shore in sight. In that hush, every moment carries a secret weight: the chance of collapse, or the seed of invention. The mind, denied its usual scaffolding, wanders into treacherous terrain where despair crouches in the tall grass, yet also into luminous clearings where thought reshapes itself. What seems vacant is charged, volatile, and waiting. From such uneasy pause can spring either ruinous withdrawal or a sudden, startling beauty that could not have been summoned by design.

The Miki Berenyi Trio (Miki Berenyi, KJ ‘Moose’ McKillop, and Oliver Cherer) confront this peculiar limbo with their effervescent dream pop single Doldrum Days, taken from their debut album Tripla (its title a nod to the Hungarian word for “triple,” a sly tribute to Berenyi’s father’s native tongue).

Doldrum Days marries Miki Berenyi’s fluttering voice,  dreamy guitars, and burbling synths into a vision steeped in joy, anxiety, humour, and grief. Its lyrical core stares directly at a world teetering with environmental collapse, digital solipsism, and the brutality of blunted machismo, yet still lets in a shaft of optimism. Here, the trio does not shy from the midnight reckonings of parenthood (especially the world our children are inheriting) or the ache of loss, but neither do they surrender their laughter.

“The lyric is about the spaces between places where interesting things can happen,” says Ollie. “The scenario is borrowed from Erskine Childers’ novel The Riddle of the Sands, but really it’s about being lost, stranded, unmotivated and bored, and what a potentially fertile or dangerous place that can be.”

The video, directed by long-time art collaborator Martin Andersen, accompanies the song with a hallucinatory collage of fish and a mysterious twirling hand missing its pinky and ring fingers. In the depths of this alt-rock seascape, psychedelia serves as a swirling tidepool of blissful dissociation.

This October, MB3 returns to North America with Gina Birch (The Raincoats) and the Unreasonables. Their tour begins on October 10 in Washington, DC. But it will also be their last visit.

“Moose is breaking his no-fly embargo so gig-goers will get to enjoy the full and proper Trio,” says Berenyi. “I’m sad to say that the costs involved in touring Stateside have become crippling for smaller bands like us, so this will be our last ever outing in North America. I wish we could have covered more cities, but I’m incredibly grateful to the many fans who have messaged on my socials to say they will make the journey to see us play. We’ll be sure to include a bunch of Lush tracks in the set as a last hurrah and a thank you to long-time fans.”

Ganser is a band that writes as if mere observation itself were an art form: snatched remarks from sidewalks, overheard murmurs in dive bars, half-formed philosophies scribbled in a notebook between cities. On Animal Hospital, the Chicago quartet frames those fragments as a liturgy of contradictions—life on the move. Life standing still. Life arranged in rhythms that thud, scrape, and spiral until they turn distraction into design.

Sophie Sputnik’s guitar slices like neon wire, Alicia Gaines’ bass digs trenches, Brian Cundiff drives rhythms forward with a steady insistence. Recorded at Jamdek Studios with Angus Andrew of Liars presiding, the album feels like an edifice built from scattered notes dating back years, finally assembled into something towering. With Charlie Landsman and Dove Hollis bolstering the record in the studio, Ganser sounds both anchored and volatile, a group tuned to fracture and cohesion in equal measure.



Album opener Black Sand ignites the LP with percussion that doesn’t ask but commands. The song bursts into the room and points at the exits. stripe follows with a sudden dream pop sway. Gaines trades propulsion for patience, her voice languid, eyes half-closed, as though she’s dancing in the half-light of a room where time forgets itself. With the song’s jangly guitars and percussion, the duet of vocals shapes the atmosphere into a conversation: past selves, future selves, and the stubborn present colliding.



The band’s palette ten stretches wide: Ten Miles Tall, in fact, which leans into serrated guitars and recalls the art-punk sneer of downtown no wave. Dig Until I Reach the Moon drapes trip-hop unease over jazzed intervals, a shadowplay of Massive Attack and Portishead refracted through Ganser’s claustrophobic humour. Grounding Exercises dissolves into something more spectral: Radiohead’s The Bends caught in a fever, basslines murmuring like ghosts under floorboards.



When Sputnik growls her way through Half Plastic, the record shakes with pure punk voltage. “I hold my breath till I see spots,” she snarls, and the line feels less like memory than a live shock. Speaking of the Future rattles with jazzy percussion, cymbals skittering across eerily sustained chords. Then Creature Habits kicks the door down in Bikini Kill fashion, a feral release.



If Lounger nods towards shoegaze and Britpop haze, Discount Diamonds hurls itself at the dancefloor with indie/no-wave, post-punk funk. The drums bounce with narcotic regularity while Gaines seethes, “kids don’t dance anymore.” The irony of the line is obliterated by the rhythm itself: a rallying cry for those still willing to move, still willing to sweat under the strobe of contradiction.

Then the knife-twist: Plato, all angles and agitation, guitar strafing across a rhythm section that refuses to wobble. No-wave tension meets classroom provocation; the band argues by tone and timbre, not thesis. Left to Chance closes the set like a ritual broadcast: motorik thrum, glassy keys, and a hook that feels telegraphed from some archival BBC sci-fi cue. It’s a spell cast in plain sight.

To invite another into one’s life is to open the front door of one’s fragile little kingdom, and risk finding mud on the carpet. Yet, to remain alone is to sit in spotless silence, polished but desolate. The tension is eternal: solitude might keep one unruffled, but also untouched. Companionship may bruise, but it also affirms our existence. We fear intrusion, yet crave witness. To let someone in is to gamble with chaos, but also with the possibility of communion. And really, what is life if not the delicious terror of being seen, and still being allowed to stay?

Viva Non’s new single, Haunting Me, rises like a midnight ritual, conjured from the very depths of the soul — elusive yet undeniable, alive with restless electricity. Following his return to synth-pop with July’s With Love, James Hofer delivers a fervent new track driven by a pounding bassline, effervescent yet exacting, carrying the shimmer of Erasure, the solemn weight of Depeche Mode, and the crystalline poise of the Human League. With its passion and restraint, it feels less like a song than an incantation, a pulse summoned to illuminate the void.

Beneath the surface lies an austere control, a discipline as cold as glass. The tempo locks into Kraftwerk’s mechanical precision, a synth pulse steady as machinery idling in the dark. Then, klaxons shiver across the mix — sharp enough to raise goosebumps, like a warning carried on frozen air. The melody flickers with fragile candlelight, trembling as if it might extinguish at any moment. Early EBM beats hums in the undercurrent, issuing its threat obliquely through static and silence. Hofer’s voice, half-swallowed yet near, moves through the frost like breath crystallizing, intimate but distant, vulnerable yet unyielding.

For nearly a decade, Hofer has traveled under the Viva Non name, charting a path that has shifted from synthpop’s nostalgic shimmer to something more restrained, more deliberate. “Haunting Me” extends that evolution, its layers building toward a kind of suspended release. That tension seeps into the structure of the track itself, where openness and reserve press against one another. The bassline drives forward, a metallic heart beating steadily beneath a surface of air and reverb. Each element is given space to breathe, yet nothing fully settles. It is the kind of song that inhabits a threshold between intimacy and distance, solitude and communion, silence and speech.

“I’ve had this track mostly finished for a long time but it never felt quite right to actually go ahead and release it,” he explains. “After getting a new synth and adding a more ‘techno’ informed bass-line to it, the track got there for me. To invite another into one’s life is to open the front door of one’s fragile little kingdom, and risk finding mud on the carpet. Yet, to remain alone is to sit in spotless silence, polished but desolate. The tension is eternal: solitude might keep one unruffled, but also untouched. Companionship may bruise, but it also affirms our existence. We fear intrusion, yet crave witness. To let someone in is to gamble with chaos, but also with the possibility of communion. And really, what is life if not the delicious terror of being seen, and still being allowed to stay?

Viva Non’s new single, Haunting Me, rises like a midnight ritual, conjured from the very depths of the soul — elusive yet undeniable, alive with restless electricity. Following his return to synth-pop with July’s With Love, James Hofer delivers a fervent new track driven by a pounding bassline, effervescent yet exacting, carrying the shimmer of Erasure, the solemn weight of Depeche Mode, and the crystalline poise of the Human League. With its passion and restraint, it feels less like a song than an incantation, a pulse summoned to illuminate the void.

Beneath the surface lies an austere control, a discipline as cold as glass. The tempo locks into Kraftwerk’s mechanical precision, a synth pulse steady as machinery idling in the dark. Then, klaxons shiver across the mix — sharp enough to raise goosebumps, like a warning carried on frozen air. The melody flickers with fragile candlelight, trembling as if it might extinguish at any moment. Early EBM beats hums in the undercurrent, issuing its threat obliquely through static and silence. Hofer’s voice, half-swallowed yet near, moves through the frost like breath crystallizing, intimate but distant, vulnerable yet unyielding.

For nearly a decade, Hofer has traveled under the Viva Non name, charting a path that has shifted from synthpop’s nostalgic shimmer to something more restrained, more deliberate. “Haunting Me” extends that evolution, its layers building toward a kind of suspended release. That tension seeps into the structure of the track itself, where openness and reserve press against one another. The bassline drives forward, a metallic heart beating steadily beneath a surface of air and reverb. Each element is given space to breathe, yet nothing fully settles. It is the kind of song that inhabits a threshold between intimacy and distance, solitude and communion, silence and speech.

“I’ve had this track mostly finished for a long time but it never felt quite right to actually go ahead and release it,” he explains. “After getting a new synth and adding a more ‘techno’ informed bass-line to it, the track got there for me. I’m excited to finally get this one out. The lyrics speak to the tension felt about letting people in. It’s good to be selective about such things but not too much so.”

The Rocky Horror Picture Show has been rehearsed for half a century by audiences in basements, boudoirs, and Broadway-adjacent cinemas. As it prepares to mark its 50th anniversary, HarperPop’s new release, ROCKY HORROR: A Behind the Scenes Look at the Cult Classic, finally grants us Mick Rock’s long-hidden archive, a gallery once whispered about, now thunderously revealed.

Mick Rock, “the man who shot the seventies,” carried his camera through Bowie’s alien stardom, Reed’s nocturnal languor, Blondie’s peroxide bravado, and Iggy’s manic contortions. For Rocky Horror, he had the rare privilege of exclusivity: the only photographer permitted to wander Bray Studios during six weeks of fevered invention. His freedom to prowl results in images that glow with sly chaos: Tim Curry sliding into Frank-N-Furter’s corsetry, Susan Sarandon blinking like a startled ingénue, Richard O’Brien tightening the script’s delicious perversities into shape.

Richard O’Brien’s forward for the book poetically describes Mick’s approach: “Frank-N-Furter, mad scientist, self-obsessed, narcissistic exhibitionist, obviously adores to be admired, and for him the seductive clicking shutter of a Hasselblad camera was like a bell to Pavlov’s dogs…”

The story of The Rocky Horror Picture Show is now practically folklore: a flop at release, a fortune amassed later, $225 million earned, and the peculiar immortality of being the longest theatrical run in history. Fishnets, lipstick, rice, toast: Rocky Horror showings became wild, wacky impromptu theatrical productions in themselves. The book underlines how this ritual took shape on set: camaraderie stitched together by costumes, camp, and conviction.

“The Rocky Horror Picture Show is a totally unique phenomenon; there’s nothing even to compare it to,” Rock once said. “It occupies its own unchallenged space in the history of modern popular culture.”

Rock’s lens knew how to consecrate excess. The photographs here are equal parts glitter, horror, and punk prophecy. They are threaded with ephemera, cast interviews, and reflections from an extraordinary court of devotees: Joan Jett, Courtney Love, Juliette Lewis, Jinkx Monsoon, Trixie Mattel, Peaches, and a host of others who’ve kept the midnight fire burning. The text becomes a chorus, each voice affirming what Rocky Horror seeded across fashion, music, and nightlife.

“This book was created in conversation with Mick—his eye present in every photograph, his spirit guiding the choices along the way,” says Pati Rock. “I believe he would be proud to see how his art, his memories, and the voices of those he photographed continue to speak here.”

The care shows. Each page resounds with Mick’s instinct for spectacle, yet it is balanced by a tenderness often absent in rock portraiture: excess portrayed with restraint, depravity made delightful, vulgarity turned into velvet.

“Maybe the strongest impression that these modest stills project is that, as Richard points out, everyone appears to be having such a good time,” Mick Rock commented. “That also may partly account for the delightful potency of this celluloid classic. It’s a privilege to have been of service to such a legendary piece of art.”

Timed with exhibitions in New York and Los Angeles, ROCKY HORROR: A Behind the Scenes Look at the Cult Classic is both archive and altar. It is a love letter to the midnight movie that blurred gender, style, and stagecraft into one dissolute hymn. Mick Rock may have passed away in 2021, but through these pages, he presides still: a photographer of excess who understood that the pose, however exaggerated, could be honest.

Livebericht ASPHYX + KEITZER + WILT vom Konzert in der Druckerei Bad Oeynhausen am 12.09.2025

Die Death Metaller WILT aus Herford leiten den Abend ein: Old School Death Metal nach dem Motto „Stumpf ist Trumpf“ und eine ordentliche Portion Eigenhumor sorgen schon in der ersten halben Stunde für gewaltiges Headbangen und gute Stimmung.
Nicht zu vergessen ist die Tatsache, dass singender Bassist Matze in letzter Zeit mit Halsproblemen zu kämpfen hatte und an diesem Abend seinen ersten Auftritt nach seiner Genesung hatte. Dies war allerdings kaum zu hören, denn seine Stimme war einwandfrei wie immer. Gitarrist Marko musste aus persönlichen Gründen ausfallen und wurde durch einen anderen Musiker ersetzt. Dies sorgte ebenfalls für keinerlei Probleme.
WILT hat sich im Laufe der letzten Jahre innerhalb der Death Metal Szene einen Namen gemacht und ist des Öfteren mit deutlich größeren Bands aufgetreten.
Der Auftritt erinnert an das legendäre Post-COVID-Konzert im Haus der Kulturen in Göttingen. Dort traten sie ebenfalls mit ASPHYX auf. Dieses war ein „More of the same“-Auftritt, und genau deswegen wurde es vom Publikum hart gefeiert. Wieder einmal schaffen es WILT, mit ihrem kompromisslosen Old School Death Metal zu überzeugen und uns allen Nackenschmerzen zu bereiten.

 

Nach WILT war KEITZER dran. Diejenigen, die immer noch keine bis erträglichen Nackenschmerzen hatten, wurden spätestens jetzt erwischt. Laut Duden ist die Definition von „Abriss“ dieser Auftritt der Death Metaller aus NRW. Die Truppe hinter dem brüllenden Zauberzwerg Chaco liefert einen zerstörerischen Sound, der die Druckerei beben lässt.
Die Zeit verging wie im Flug: Obwohl der Auftritt fast eine Stunde dauerte, fühlte es sich an wie 10 Minuten. Trotz des Malträtierens der oberen Wirbelsäule war mein erster Gedanke nach diesem Auftritt: „Ich will noch mehr.“ Noch mehr von diesem zerstörerischen Sound, der an die goldenen Zeiten des Genres erinnert, und noch mehr von diesen Mosh-Pits. Deshalb war das etwas längere Warten auf ASPHYX besonders ätzend.

 

Nun war es soweit: Die Band, auf die alle gewartet hatten – die niederländische Death Metal Legende ASPHYX, die seit 38 Jahren die Bühnen der ganzen Welt in alle Einzelteile zerlegt. Trotz des fortgeschrittenen Alters machen die vier Musiker weiter, wo sie beim letzten Mal aufgehört hatten. Mit einer Setlist, die aus alten und aktuelleren Krachern bestand, gibt ASPHYX unseren Nacken den Gnadenstoß. Die Druckerei wird von den Riffs der 90er Jahre pulverisiert, und Martin Van Drunen zeigt wieder einmal, warum er zu den einflussreichsten Sängern der Death Metal Szene zählt. Genauso wie bei WILT war Eigenhumor auch Thema, was ebenfalls zeigte, dass die Attitüde der Band sich kein Stück verändert hat, obwohl sie einen derartigen Erfolg erzielt hat.
Keine Alterspuren, keine Kompromisse, kein Versuch, jeden Cent aus den Taschen der Fans zu entwenden – einfach nur grandioser Death Metal, verbunden mit Demut und Treue. All das macht ASPHYX zu einem absoluten Vorbild für Tausende von Metalbands, sowohl vor, während als auch nach ihren Auftritten.

The Bowery in September carries its own kind of twilight; a season of half-spent warmth and lengthening shadows, when the city’s heartbeat seems to move underground. In that subterranean rhythm, the tenth anniversary of A Murder of Crows Festival this past Labor Day weekend found its setting, a celebration spun from devotion and joy in the darkness. The festival, hosted by The Nite Church and The Red Party, unfolded over three nights like a secret diary, one written in the margins of New York’s nocturnal life.

Conceived in the twilight hours by New York’s Sean Templar and M. Banshie Templar, the minds behind The Red Party and Underworld, alongside Los Angeles’ Dave Bats and London’s Martin Oldgoth, A Murder of Crows was born of a late-night revelation at Leipzig’s Wave Gotik Treffen. What began in 2015 as a modest gathering at NYC’s Mercury Lounge in the Lower East Side, with three bands and four DJs, soon stretched its wings: two nights by 2016, a sprawling Twitch marathon in 2021, and, since 2023, the addition of a devoted pre-party. This year, however, was special indeed.

The festival’s prologue unfolded at TV Eye in the Queens neighbourhood of Ridgewood, where the patio burned with the glow of cigarettes and the perfume of patchouli, and the air was alive with chatter. Goths of every persuasion, from skeletal deathrockers to velvet-clad dandies, circled the bar like planets caught in the same orbit. “1000 Gothic DJs” played as backdrop, while friends leaned close to share the latest hot gossip, the smoke curling upward in arabesques.

William Faith and Bootblacks‘ Barrett Hiatt, who once squared off in the race for Mayor of Schaumburg, clasped arms like brothers, the feud replaced by cheesing for the camera. Around them: photographer Rose Callahan, Phantom Creep, Scary Lady Sarah, MIDNIGHTCHOIR, Frenchy and the Punk, Cesar Marin from None Shall Remain. The gathering felt less like a pre-party than a covenant, a reunion of kindred souls who understood why such nights mattered.

The Brickbats roared into the night with the venom of a long-awaited reckoning, their set furious and unrelenting, joined in wild communion by Scary Lady Sarah, who handed out sparkly pumpkins to her fans. The Long Losts followed, carrying the torch forward with equal intensity. Between sets, festival organizer Sean Templar admitted, almost shy in his sincerity: “I just brought in bands I like,” and then added with warmth how much he loved the community, how vital it was to sustain New York’s independent music scene.

The second evening drew the crowd to the Bowery Ballroom, where the room itself seemed charged with anticipation, the balconies thick with black attire and restless energy. Hallowed Hearts ignited the hall with solemn brilliance as singer Alex Virlios led a winding journey of love and loss, while multi-instrumentalist Andrew Sega (ex. Iris) paints a three-dimensional canvas of angular guitars and distorted ambience.

Miami’s Astari Nite entered like a fever dream. Their style is reminiscent of classic alternative bands like Clan of Xymox and Placebo, yet their modern production and unique lyrical content give them a contemporary edge. Mychael Ghost wore a shirt splashed with pop-art newspaper headlines, a costume made of fragments of the world’s chaos, sewn into something both absurd and prophetic.

Los Angeles’s Soft Vein carried their set with the cool precision of circuitry as songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Justin Chamberlain brought his unique brand of darkly romantic, industrial-tinged electronic music, dubbed “nostalgic futurism.”

Detroit’s Ritual Howls brought a different kind of thunder, their performance as unyielding as stone.  The band combines a cinematic blend of twangy industrial-rock that could fuel a post-apocalyptic dance floor. A collaboration between Paul Bancell (vocals, guitar), Chris Samuels (synth, samples, drum machine), and Ben Saginaw (bass), the Detroit trio creates expansive arrangements sculpted with masterful production.

The headline set on Night 2 belonged to German goth legends Pink Turns Blue, weary from travel, eyes heavy with the fog of international flight. After a stolen nap backstage, they emerged renewed, delivering a set that was fragile and fierce in equal measure. Mic Jogwer (vocals, guitar), Paul Richter (drums) and Luca Sammuri (bass) enthralled the audience, many fans had been waiting ages to see them live on US soil.

From the wings, Sean Templar’s smile revealed he was one of them: “I’d been wanting to get these guys to play this festival for years.”

By the third night, the crowd had swelled into something mythic. Octavian Winters opened the procession, with frontwoman Ria Aursjoen darting across the stage in her wreath crown, like a dark faerie. Octavian Winters is guitarist Stephan Salit (Thrill of The Pull), drummer Randy Gzebb (Thrill of The Pull, Love Club), bassist Jay Denton, and Ria (Amenti) Aursjoen on vocals and keyboards. Together, they weave their visceral and ethereal sound into stories once told but half-remembered, under a dusk of shadows and stars, in an abandoned city under the winter moon.

Nox Novacula came like a tempest, Charlotte Blythe striding into the lights as if the storm itself had chosen a voice. Formed in the pale graveyards of Seattle in 2017, they rose from quiet soil to carry their hymns of gothic rock ’n’ roll to the unsuspecting. Each song they performed exhaled a breath of cold air across the body of modern goth and deathrock, at once reverent to the ghosts of the 1980s and alive with a sharpened urgency. Their work bears the weight of struggle, both personal and political, and in that collision of reverence and unrest, Nox Novacula conjure something unmistakable.

Altar De Fey, legends whose name carries the scent of graveyard roses, took command of the room with ease, their set an incantation of the old deathrock spirit. Altar De Fey first took form in San Francisco in the early 1980s, when the city’s restless nights still pulsed with the aftershocks of punk’s unruly blaze. From that fleeting flash of the ’70s, a darker current began to stir:  a sound that carried the rebellion of the counterculture into deeper waters, where gloom ripened into gravity, and the reckless spirit of youth grew stranger, more spectral, and more severe. They put this on full display in the perfect place: the grittiness of Delancey Street, an area of the city that still teems with sleaze, graffiti, and debauchery.

Past Self, a relatively newly minted Las Vegas outfit that performs in both English and Korean, was drafted at the eleventh hour to replace 45 Grave. transformed the hall with theatrical spectacle: handmade shirts streaked with sequined blood, red sashes flashing under the lights. Later, at the merch table, vocalist Sung gestured proudly toward aether: “She’s the mastermind behind our look and graphic design.”

The festival’s final hour belonged to Athens, GA rising goth rock stars Vision Video. Between songs, speeches from frontman Dusty Gannon (known to many fans as his alter ego “Goth Dad”) bled into the air with urgent politics, before giving way to crowd-favourites like Dead Gods, I Love Cats, and Stay. It was less a concert than a communion, a moment when song and conviction fused into something greater.

The Bowery was thick with familiar faces in the underground goth scene: Miss Cherry Delight, Daniel Kasshu (Mevius), Traci Danielle (My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult), Angela Benedict, Peter Michell from None Shall Remain, author Eddie McNamara (Brooklyn Hardcore), DJs Ivy Ohwowee and Mortasha Kinski, photographers Kevin Vonesper, Emily Lyche and Bub Cardi…all part of a scene that thrives on presence as much as performance.

A Murder of Crows has always been more than a festival; it is a ritual of recognition, a reminder of why New York still holds court as a citadel for those who walk the darker streets of music. Baby bats and elder goths alike found common ground on these sacred floors. On its tenth anniversary, the beloved Bowery Ballroom filled with ghosts and dreams, where each note and gesture left behind a glimmer of immortality.

Die Punk Rock-Band MARATHONMANN meldet sich mit einem neuen Album zurück: „Poltergeist“ erscheint am 15. Oktober 2025 via Redfield Records auf CD, Vinyl sowie digital. Die Platte enthält elf Tracks, darunter auch die neue Single „Frequenzen“: 

 

Anfang August teilte die Band den Track „Deflektorschild“, die es u.a. via YouTube zu hören gibt.

Das Stück folgt auf die Songs „Vertigo“ sowie „The Darkness“, welcher als Audio-Stream bei allen gängigen Anbietern abrufbar ist.

Auch den vorherigen Track „Memento“ gibt es auf einigen bekannten Streaming-Plattformen zu hören. Nach dem von den 80ern inspirierten Synth-Rock-Album „Maniac“ (2023) bewegen sich die Münchner mit der neuen Single stilistisch wieder zurück zu ihren Wurzeln.

CORROSION OF CONFORMITY teilen ihre Version von 2Fire And Water“. Im Original ist der Song von der britisschen Rockband FREE.

 

Das Cover entstand spontan während der Aufnahmen eines neuen Albums, das kommendes Jahr erscheinen soll. „Fire And Water“ ist der erste Titel der „Riffissippi Studio Jam Sessions“, einer Sammlung von Lieblingssongs der Band.

 

Gitarrist/Sänger Pepper Keenan erklärt dazu:

„Für die Aufnahmen haben wir einen sehr coolen Raum eingerichtet: In einen großen Raum mit Mikrofonen kam alles, was wir brauchten, und zwischen den Take auszuspannen. Also auch   Plattenspielers und einige unserer Lieblingsplatten. Wir hingen zusammen rum, und ich holte ein FREE-Album heraus, und „Fire And Water” kam zum Vorschein. Unser Drummer Stanton sprang sofort auf und sagte: ‚Wer zum Teufel ist das!?‘ Zu unserer Überraschung kannte er den Song nicht. Er sagte: ‚Lasst uns das aufnehmen!‘ Ich sagte: ‚Mann, das ist verdammt noch mal FREE und so etwas wie heiliger Boden, an den man nicht rangeht.‘ Wir haben dann doch darüber nachgedacht und Drum-Zauberer Stanton hat uns überzeugt. Ich sagte: „Ich kann das nicht singen, Mann.“ Jemand im Raum sagte: „Sing es einfach so, wie du bist“, also haben wir es versucht und hatten dabei jede Menge Spaß. Es war eine schöne, lustige Abwechslung während der Aufnahmen. Es ist nichts allzu Ernstes, nur ein Haufen Jungs, die sich reinhängen und Rock lieben. Es ist eine Übung in Demut. Ich hoffe, ihr findet es gut.

Zuvor teilte die Gruppe den Titelsong ihres neuen Albums „Forever“ als Stream und kündigte den Track so an:

„‚Forever‘ ist für uns mehr als nur der Titelsong unseres neuen Albums: Es ist unsere Hymne auf das, was zwischen uns und dem Battlechoir – unseren treuen Anhängern – gewachsen ist“, betont die Band. „Schon jetzt dröhnt sie mit voller Wucht aus den Boxen, aber wir glauben fest daran: Wenn wir sie live spielen und der Battlechoir lautstark mit einstimmt, wird der Song nochmal eine ganz eigene Energie entfalten. Diese Momente, in denen alles zusammenkommt und die Halle bebt, sind der Kern dessen, was wir lieben und wofür wir all das machen.“

Mit „Grail Gym“ stellten GRAILKNIGHTS  im Juni die erste Single von „Forever“ vor.

ARCH ENEMY machen das Dutzend voll und haben ein neues Studioalbum rausgebracht: „Blood Dynasty“ erschien am 28. März 2025. Jetzt hat die Melodic Death Metal-Band für 10. Oktober 2025 eine Neuauflage angekündigt. Die sogenannte „Deluxe Edition“ enthält drei Bonus-Tracks inklusive des bislang unveröffentlichten „Lacrymatory“. Einen weiteren davon gibt es mit „Break The Spell“ vorab als Lyric-Video.

„Blood Dynasty“ besteht aus elf Songs, zuletzt teilten ARCH ENEMY einen Clip zu „Illuminate The Path„.

Außerdem gibt es Videos zu  „Paper Tiger“ sowie „A Million Suns“. Den ersten ihrer neuen Songs veröffentlichten ARCH ENEMY bereits im Juli 2024: “Dream Stealer” kann man sich als Musikvideo bei YouTube ansehen, im Oktober folgte ein Video zu „Liars & Thives“, Ende 2024 ein Video zum Titeltrack.

Die Band versprach Großes:

Die Heavy Stoner Rock-Band FRIENDSHIP COMMANDERS hat mit „FOUND“ einen Video-Clip ihres kommenden Albums „Bear“ veröffentlicht. Es ist das vierte Album der US-Amerikaner aus Nashville und wurde erneut von Kurt Ballou produziert. Release-Termin ist der 10. Oktober 2025 via Magnetic Eye Records.

Vorab hat das Duo einige weitere Singles veröffentlicht. In „Keeping Score“ setzt sich Songwriterin Buick Audra mit Zyklen von Frauen auseinander, die Mädchen verletzen, weil sie sich in ihrer Existenz bedroht fühlen, etwas, das sie selbst erlebt hat. Außerdem gibt es „X“ vorab zu hören.

„Melt“ thematisiert die Einsamkeit und Verwirrung, die damit einhergeht, dass man als Erwachsener von Mitgliedern des eigenen Geschlechts zurückgewiesen wird.

Die Alternative Rock / Alternative Metal-Band THORNHILL hat ihr Album „Bodies“ am 4. April 2025 veröffentlicht. Jetzt legte die Gruppe mit „Mercia“ einen weiteren Track nach. Er ist nicht Teil des regulären Albums, sondern wird voraussichtlich auf der geplanten Sonderedition „Bodies X“ zu hören sein. Weitere Details zur Wiederveröffentlichung sind aktuell jedoch noch nicht bekannt.

GOTTHARD melden sich mit neuer Single zurück: „Ride The Wave“ ist bei YouTube als Lyric-Video abrufbar.

Gitarrist Freddy Scherer erklärt zum Song:

Die Death Metal-Band GRIMMING hat einen Plattenvertrag mit Napalm Records abgeschlossen. Den Deal feiert man mit der Single „Wüdschitz„, zu deren Thema sich die Gruppe wie folgt äußert:

„‚Wüdschitz‘ erzählt die wahre Geschichte der Wilderei in den Alpen und der ungerechten Verteilung der Jagdgesetze in früheren Zeiten. Es ist ein Mittelfinger gegenüber Autorität und Unterdrückung und keine romantische Jägergeschichte, sondern vielmehr die brutale Überlebensgeschichte der Fußsoldaten, die sich gegen Hunger, Gesetze und Großgrundbesitzer auflehnten. Dort, wo Gewehre knallten, Blut floss und der Wald zum Schlachtfeld wurde, beginnt ‚Wüdschitz‘.“

Die finnische Progressive / Alternative Metal-Formation ROYAL SORROW hat mit „Survival Complex“ eine weitere Single veröffentlicht:

Zuvor teilten ROYAL SORROW die Tracks „Bloodflower„, „Samsara„, „Give In„,  „Evergreen“, „Metrograve“ und „Release Your Shadow„. Alle Tracks stammen vom kommenden Album „Innerdeeps“, das am 26. September 2025 auf CD, Vinyl sowie digital veröffentlicht wird.

ROYAL SORROW haben im Herbst 2024 einen Vertrag mit InsideOut Music abgeschlossen. Mit dem neuen Label im Rücken war es auch Zeit, die komplette Band umzukrempeln:

„Als wir bei InsideOutMusic unterschrieben, war das auch der Beginn einer neuen Ära. Obwohl wir uns schon seit unserer Kindheit kennen, war es an der Zeit, alles, was wir kannten, neu zu gestalten: den Look, die Optik und die Musik selbst. Die Symphonic Death Metal-Band KARU hat mit „Perdition“ ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist nach „Hydra“ (2024) das zweite Album der Finnen und stellt eine Reise durch eine von der Folklore inspirierte Vision des feudalen Japans dar, in der Dörfer von Dämonen zerstört werden und die Überlebenden sowohl mit Verzweiflung als auch mit Widerstandskraft konfrontiert sind.

Die Technical Death / Black Metal-Band IMPERMANENCE hat mit „Anicca“ ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist das erste Album der Polen aus Krakau rund um Sänger Mateusz Bednarz (SIGHS OF DEATH, Ex-PANDRADOR) und wird am 16. Oktober 2025 via Satanath Records und Sanatorio Records erscheinen.

„“Anicca“ ist eine Hymne an die Zerbrechlichkeit, die unser Dasein kennzeichnet“, erläutert die Band. „Der Name des Albums stammt aus der buddhistischen Terminologie und bedeutet Vergänglichkeit. Die Texte beschäftigen sich mit Themen wie Vergänglichkeit und der Suche nach Sinn in der Welt um uns herum. Die Songs beginnen und enden mit dem Ticken einer Uhr, das den Anfang und das Ende der erzählten Geschichte deutlich markiert.“

„Anicca“ wurde mit einem Cover-Artwork von Alicja Michalec ausgestattet. Mit „Ascension Through Defiance“ gibt es nun ein Lyric-Video.

„“Ascension Through Defiance“ zeigt einen weiteren Aspekt menschlicher Schwäche – diesmal durch das Prisma von Glauben, Überzeugungen und Manipulation“, sagt Sänger Mateusz Bednarz.

Vorab gibt es zu „Sorrodise“ auch einen Video-Clip.

„“Sorrodise“ porträtiert die dunkle Seite des Lebenszyklus, zu dem jeder von uns gehört. Das Video, der Text und die Atmosphäre des Songs werfen still die Frage auf: Kann dieser Kreislauf jemals durchbrochen oder beendet werden? Die Antwort auf diese Frage wird wahrscheinlich unbekannt bleiben“, sagt die Band.

Die Psychedelic Rock / World Music-Band THE CYCLIST CONSPIRACY hat mit „Back to Hermetics and Martial Arts Vol.1“ ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist nach „Mashallah Plan“ (2023) das zweite Album des Ensembles, das seinen Ursprung in Serbien hat.

„“Back to Hermetics and Martial Arts Vol. 1″ ist eine Sammlung esoterischer Essays und Kurzgeschichten und erzählt die Geschichte vom faustischen Wissensdurst, der auf wundersame Weise durch das Wasser des Lebens gestillt wurde – und ehemalige Revolutionäre zu Mystikern und Radrennen zu Pilgerfahrten machte“, erklärt die Band.

Release-Termin ist der 14. November 2025 via Subsound Records. Vorab gibt es den Track „Calice dei Fantasmi“ zu hören.

„„Calice dei Fantasmi“ ist eine Hommage an das italienische Giallo-Kino und die fantastischen Soundtracks, die es begleiten. Wir lieben die Ästhetik des Giallo – sie ist der authentische Ausdruck der „metaphysischen Angst“, die wir derzeit erleben. Bei der Entstehung dieses Songs hatten wir Michele Soavis „The Church“ im Kopf, einen der visuell wohl beeindruckendsten Giallo-Filme aller Zeiten, sowie Dylan Dog, eine großartige italienische Comic-Reihe von Tiziano Sclavi“, sagt Komponist und Songwriter Nikola Mangas.
