There is a strange majesty in the fall that can often lead to a ddark night of the soul: it is a sacred bursting of the self so absolute that it becomes a form of grace. To plummet from the high ledge of illusion to the dust of one’s own undoing is to be stripped of every decoration the world bestows. Down there, amid the wreckage, one feels the rough texture of truth for the first time. The air is raw and clean. In the pit, pride burns off like fog, and what remains – bare, blinking, and bloodied – is the beginning of something pure. The bottom, then, is not an end, but an awakening.

Collapse can be its own form of revelation, and Ductape have learned how to translate that fall into sound. The Turkish duo return with Fine, a song steeped in the strange radiance of ruin, where losing control becomes an act of awakening. Following their 2024 album Echo Drama, they transform descent into devotion, sculpting something raw, intimate, and unmistakably alive.

Fine begins like a quiet reckoning, basslines moving with the steadiness of a pulse on the edge of breaking. Gorgeous synth work underlines a voice that feels both weary and resolute; an invocation to reclaim the self, to wrest power back from the void. The lyrics spiral through disorientation and pain, until they find calm at the bottom. “At the bottom of the hole (I call mine),” the voice admits, finding strange peace in surrender.

Black sheets and faded flowers become symbols of beauty uncovered through collapse. The track feels stripped to its essence, like light through dust in an abandoned chapel. It folds inward, tracing the grace that lives inside decay.

The accompanying video, filmed in stark black and white at Misuc in Ankara, feels like a forgotten silent film resurrected from some haunted archive. The duo appear as alchemists in their own creation myth, brewing a spell in a laboratory filled with relics and preserved life. They collect ingredients, smudge the air, and stir their potion into being. Directed, styled, and produced entirely by Ductape (with camera work by Mert YalçÄ�n and editing by ÇaÄ�la Güleray) it captures both ritual and renewal, where art becomes the act of survival itself.

After a relentless tour cycle, Ductape show no signs of slowing. Their forthcoming album Faded Flowers, set for release in 2026, promises to expand this meditation on surrender and rebirth. There’s a kind of holiness in menace, and NYC’s Hostility Index makes their altar out of voltage and ruin. The Brooklyn duo. Dan Ahrendt and Steven Salazar (Shanghai Beach) move through the decayed corridors of post-punk and industrial like men searching for the bones of a lost machine. Their debut single, Evidence, is less a song than an invocation: a sinister stomper that claws its way through rhythm and repetition until it feels like ritual.

The track opens with a drum pattern that strikes like a warning: mechanical, deliberate, unmerciful. Bass grinds through the mix, alive with tension, while shards of synth flash like broken glass in dim light. Then come the voices: interwoven, pleading, commanding. Ahrendt and Salazar chant with a strange duality: one voice scorched by distortion, the other rising, half-human, half-specter. Together they conjure something both furious and entrancing, a collision of precision and chaos that evokes NIN’s desolation, Ministry’s mechanical fervor, the body-music urgency of DAF, and the vocal grandeur of Foetus.

Evidence feels like a séance conducted in an abandoned factory: steel echoing against skin, desire collapsing into devotion—the song spirals, pulling you inward with each circuit of its hypnotic refrain. There’s a vampiric hunger in the delivery, as if the voices were pleading for blood, or faith, or both. Each sound feels chosen, not composed: the hiss of feedback as confession, the distortion as absolution.

This kind of music thrives in that liminal place between ecstasy and decay. Hostility Index distills the pulse of New York’s underground into something visceral. Evidence is out now as a limited 7-inch vinyl, with only twenty-five copies pressed. A rare relic, it captures the sound of collapse made holy; a communion through noise.

In the brittle hush before dawn, Montreal’s The City Gates step once more into the theatre of the human condition. La douleur (des mortels) arrives like a flare against the firmament:  brief, beautiful, burning with purpose. The band’s fusion of post-punk, shoegaze, and darkwave traditions becomes less a genre exercise and more an invocation of that ancient ache: to exist, to feel, to endure.

La douleur (des mortels) is the band’s second French-language track, a deliberate artistic choice that highlights the emotional and intimate core of the piece. The poetic, symbolic lyrics are delivered through a deep baritone voice, blending dramatic intensity with mystical introspection. The production is rich in atmosphere, featuring thunderous bass, powerful drums, sharp guitars, and hazy reverb.

“La douleur (des mortels) is a timeless theme,” they explain, “human, philosophical, even mythological.” This sense of myth carries through every moment. The guitars hum like distant engines of fate; percussion rolls with the inevitability of ritual. Yet, amid its atmosphere, there lies precision; an architecture of sound that grants weight to each emotion. The lyrics read as both confession and scripture, “a silent cry against impermanence.” One can feel the pulse of Romanticism in the band’s approach, a yearning that reaches back toward the sublime, even as it trembles at its edge. The song echoes influences such as The Sisters of Mercy, Twin Tribes, She Past Away, Killing Joke, Pink Turns Blue, and names from the French coldwave scene: Babel 17, Trisomie 21 (TCG shared the stage with both of them as well), Asylum Party, and Little Nemo.

The chorus distills the song’s cosmology into four potent images. The “paths of darkness” signify life’s uncertainty; “the shadowy path of existence,” as the band describes it. A flaming cross in the sky marks the wounds of experience, an emblem of suffering too bright to stare at. The flickering light of Eden denied recalls innocence scorched away by knowledge. And then, at its heart, Il exalte la douleur des mortels, lifts tragedy to something like grace.

Behind the imagery, a more terrestrial fear unfolds: the erosion of time, the frailty of flesh, the anxiety of a world increasingly estranged from meaning. But even within such gravity, the music carries a strange, transcendent beauty, an echo of humanity refusing to vanish into abstraction.

Their reflections echo the song’s central idea: that art can transform pain into beauty. “We are people who love life deeply,” they admit, “but through our music, we confront our fears, obsessions, and vulnerabilities. It’s a way to transcend them. To turn them into something beautiful.” In that spirit, La douleur (des mortels) glows between anguish and awe — a requiem and a renewal, a reminder that beauty remains, even as the light recedes.

Recorded at the band’s own Velouria Studios in Montreal and shaped by William Faith at 13 Studio in Chicago, the track bears the refinement of artisans who have lived within this sound for decades. “We love the DIY approach in our creative process,” the band says. “But this time, we wanted to explore new dimensions. William, already a fan of our music, immediately understood our sonic world – its gravity, melody, and intensity. Working with him was fluid and natural. The result is exactly what we hoped for.”

The band has toured across Europe, the UK, the US, and Canada. They’ve appeared at major festivals including Dark Spring Berlin, Return to the Batcave, Dark Spring Boston, Kalamashoegazer, Canadian Music Week, and Focus Wales Festival, and shared stages with The Chameleons, A Place to Bury Strangers, Actors, Selofan, Traitrs, Solar Fake, Nothing, and Vision Video.

The City Gates’ next show takes place tonight, October 10, at L’Escogriffe (Montreal), with The Mirrors ✢ Nümonia. AEuropean tour scheduled for late May/early June 2026

It is a room without corners, a heart without windows. The air closes in like thought itself, thick with the murmur of one’s own unworthiness. Each breath tastes of confinement, each heartbeat a reminder that there is no escape from the self. The mind coils in its own shadow, gnawing at the edges of reason. In this dim and airless place, even light feels accusatory. You cannot flee your own company, cannot outpace the echo that knows your name. So you sit with it: the narrow cell of your body, the vast terror of being only yourself.

There’s a fever beneath the gloss of My Own Design, a glittering tremor that unsettles as much as it seduces. Madeline Goldstein steps into the frame with a voice both human and hallucinatory, poised at the edge of control, yet trembling with the charge of release. The song feels like a panic attack turned into choreography: each synth line a heartbeat, each snare hit a gasp for air. Beneath its gloss lies something raw and frightened, a pulse that quickens with dread and deliverance alike.

“This track is a manic rebellion against my struggle with anxiety and panic,” says Goldstein. “It speaks to a time in which I felt completely and utterly out of control, unrecognizable to myself. Musically I wanted to represent the feelings of obsession, repetition and claustrophobia I was up against on a daily basis. Like many other songs on the record, it focuses in on my relationship to the physical world, (my last EP being my relationship with the inner or ‘other’ world). Measuring up my shortcomings, flaws, and fixations while also protesting them in the most ambitious ways.”

That confession hums in the machinery of the track. Synths shimmer with mechanical devotion; drums march with near-religious insistence. The song feels measured yet feverish, as if recorded inside the skull during an anxiety spiral. Goldstein’s voice rises above the glinting fog like a flare from a distant freeway.

Produced and mixed by Matia Simovich at Infinite Power Studios in Los Angeles and mastered by Josh Bonati, My Own Design moves with the clean geometry of classic synthpop, those precise melodic turns and crystalline textures recalling the theatrical grace of Berlin, Eurythmics, Til Tuesday, and Goldfrapp. Yet there’s something contemporary in its unease: an awareness of how the digital and the physical blur, how selfhood can fray under its own reflection.

The song’s power lies in its containment: emotion disciplined into dance, confession smuggled into rhythm. It’s beautiful and affecting in equal measure, a pop hymn for the anxious mind trying to keep its composure under the spotlight’s heat. My Own Design captures the terror of being your own creation, even at your own risk.

Where his ambient opus No Solace in Sleep found Jon DeRosa navigating the numinous hush of isolation, his new album Ecstatic Lightsongs gazes upward—toward warmth, connection, and transcendence. It is the sound of the veil thinning: of an artist who once chronicled silence now seeking communion within the resonance of light. Released via HanaqPacha Records, this tenth Aarktica LP feels like a rekindled prayer—part post-punk benediction, part post-rock requiem—balancing grief’s gravity with the luminous lift of faith, friendship, and sound itself.

“I envisioned this album to be a fusion of rhythm and ambience,” DeRosa notes, and it shows: the beats here don’t drive the songs so much as breathe within them. Like Talk Talk’s Laughing Stock or Felt’s Me and a Monkey on the Moon, Ecstatic Lightsongs occupies that liminal realm where restraint becomes rapture. The spaces between drum hits, the subtle decay of a synth tone, the inhale before a lyric—all become portals into reverie.

The opening track “Trick of the Light” is a softly glowing curtain rise—its buoyant rhythm and shivering guitar tones shimmering like heat off asphalt. The song captures DeRosa’s duality: equal parts melancholy and mirage. His baritone recalls Brendan Perry’s solemn poetry, while chiming keys nod to The Cure’s luminous melancholy. It’s a hypnotic overture—one that frames the record as a meditation on perception: how love, loss, and time warp our memories until truth itself becomes another trick of the light.

“To Love is to Believe” deepens that theme with spiritual resonance. Over earthy percussion and ritualistic strings, DeRosa sings like a desert prophet whispering through a sandstorm. The song swells with devotional energy—part Dead Can Dance mysticism, part Celtic folk incantation—its mantra (“Golden rays of pure light, in the emptiness…”) ascending like incense smoke. It’s one of the album’s most transportive moments: a song of surrender, radiant and solemn in equal measure.

From there, the album turns inward. “Why Say Anything?” strips things bare: acoustic strumming, tender harmonics, and a melody as fragile as breath. It’s Nick Drake by way of Durutti Column—an ode to the ineffable. “These aren’t the words I wanted to say,” DeRosa confesses, yet every line lingers like a half-remembered dream. His phrasing carries a porchlight warmth—a flicker of human connection amid the nocturnal sprawl.

“Ecstatic Light Transmission” then dissolves language entirely. An instrumental that floats between ambient and celestial, it evokes the sensation of standing under a sky pulsing with unseen frequencies. Drones ripple, guitars glimmer, and faint choral tones shimmer like halos at the edge of hearing. It’s as though DeRosa has transformed silence itself into song—a pure vibration of being.

The album’s centerpiece, “Destination Paradise,” reintroduces human dialogue through duet. Joined by Britt Warner, DeRosa stages a cosmic conversation between faith and doubt, flesh and transcendence. The two voices orbit each other—hers light and vaporous, his steady and earthbound—as strings, synths, and choral echoes spiral around them. The result feels like a celestial slow dance, a vision of redemption through shared surrender. “There’ll be a new day,” they sing, and for once, you believe them.

“Cloud Formations” continues this tender exchange, its fluttering guitars and hushed harmonies embodying the elusive intimacy of friendship and belonging. It’s wistful but not tragic, suffused with the glow of acceptance. “I don’t wanna lose it,” they repeat, mantra-like—a plea for connection as fleeting and beautiful as the clouds above them. Steel guitar sighs in the distance, lending a bittersweet Americana tint to Aarktica’s celestial palette.

By the time “The Bird That Hides Itself” unfurls its dawn-lit drones and Meierkord’s mournful cello, the album feels suspended between waking and dreaming. It’s the moment of clarity before the world returns—fragile, glowing, ephemeral. That sense of transience carries through to “Laughing in the Rain,” where fretless bass and wistful guitar arpeggios give voice to nostalgia without sentimentality. “Sorrow in new forms,” DeRosa muses, before finding catharsis not in closure but in acceptance: “One day you will find me, laughing in the rain.”

The digital edition’s closer, a stunning reinterpretation of The Chameleons’ “Second Skin,” seals the album’s message. Where the original shimmered with youthful desperation, DeRosa’s minimalist string version sounds like hard-earned grace—resilient, luminous, and aware of its own impermanence. It’s both elegy and renewal, an echo of the past refracted through new light.

Sie gehören zu den großen Vertretern des 80’s Post Punk, Wave Rock und waren am Ende auch Vorreiter in Sachen Dream Pop, Jangle Pop und Shoegaze. Mit diesen wundervollen hymnischen Songs, perlenden Gitarren nahm man all die Genre indirekt vorweg und hat mit Klassikern wie ‚Soul In Isolation‘ und ‚Second Skin‘ Hymnen für die Ewigkeit geschrieben. Mit Mark Burgess – der sich heute Vox nennt, hat man eine der markanten Stimmen überhaupt als Frontmann und nach einer gefühlten Ewigkeit von mehr als 20 Jahren kommt der Charismatiker nebst Band endlich mal wieder mit einem neuen Studio-Album an die Frontlinie. Die Vorab-EP’s in 2024 waren gut, ließen aber eine eindeutige Zuweisung in der aktuellen Qualität noch offen.  Mit ‚Where Are You‘ und dem positiv rockendem Gitarren Wave in ‚Lady Strange‘ zeigt man sich in gewohnten Terrains, Burgess/Vox klingt wie in 1985 – der Sänger hat nichts von seiner Power und diesen umarmenden Melodien abgelegt. ‚Feels Like The End Of The World“ schunkelt folkig und halb balladesk mit Streichern und gefühlvollen Gitarrenspiel erstmal vor sich hin und klingt umarmend und leuchtend. Wie sich der Song dann im weiteren Verlauf verdunkelt, zu einer ausufernd driftenden Wave-Hymne mutiert..meine Herren. Die Mannen können es noch intensiv, episch und mit dieser so lieben gelernten –  immer großen Geste im Gepäck. Ein künftiger Live-Klassiker wie ich hoffe und mit ‚Free Me‘ geht es entspannt im balladigen Stil weiter – addiere einfach etwas schmachtenden Brit Pop und Stadion Rock hinzu. Find ich etwas mau und langatmig, dafür macht ‚Magnolia‘ mit perlenden, richtig schönen Akkorden und viel Atmosphäre wieder Boden gut. Hier wissen die charismatischen Vocals und dunklen Strophen im Noir-Stil viel Raum und Weite zu erzeugen. Der Refrain lässt den großen Moment zwar aus, dafür erzeugen die dichten Synths, der Hall und pumpende Bass  klassischen Wave Sound – Punkt!  Das sehr lange ‚David Bowie Takes My Hand‘ erlebt erneut einen gut inszenierten Dramatik-Verlauf und ufert mit perlenden Gitarren und offenen Armen gehörig aus. Viele feine Details gerade in den Gitarren, den hoffnungsvoll melancholischen Gesangs-Linien und schmachtenden Streicher sind Chameleons pur.  Etwas aktuell alternativer Stil, also klassischer Brit Pop schwingt immer etwas mit im Sound – die Streicher sind schon temporär gut im schwülstigen Bereich. Richtig starken Wave Rock gibt es im abschließend treibenden ‚Saviours Are A Dangerous Thing‘, die Produktion ist top, die Details sitzen und der hymnische Moment weiß zum Tanz zu laden. Eine starke Rückkehr ist dieses Album geworden, 7 Songs die gut miteinander harmonisieren und die hymnischen Momente sind im Paket inklusive. Auf kommende Live-Erlebnisse mit dem Charismatiker Burgess.

Im Jahr 2009 erschien das Album „Flowers From Exile“. 16 Jahre sind seither vergangen – und dieses Werk gehört noch immer zu meinen Lieblingsalben von ROME. Das ist bemerkenswert, denn ROME hat inzwischen viele geniale Alben veröffentlicht. Im Klangkosmos von ROME ist „Flowers From Exile“ ein Werk, das in atmosphärischer Hinsicht eher licht wirkt. Zweifellos klingen viele ROME-Alben deutlich düsterer. Trotz des Verzichts auf besonders finstere Stimmungsbilder wirkt „Flowers From Exile“ auf das Seelenleben des Hörers besonders intensiv. Das Album verzaubert durch eine außergewöhnlich starke, herzergreifende Emotionalität. Diese tiefe Emotionalität ist der entscheidende Grund, warum das Album ein wahres Meisterwerk ist.

Jetzt gibt es in Gestalt von „Flowers From Exile – Revisited“ eine Neufassung des Werks, das sich bekanntlich mit dem Spanischen Bürgerkrieg (1936-1939) beschäftigt. Worin bestehen die Unterschiede zwischen der neuen Version und dem Original?

Die starke Emotionalität ist bei der Neugestaltung komplett erhalten geblieben. Das liegt vor allem daran, dass Jerome Reuters Stimme so leidenschaftlich klingt wie bei der Erstversion. Die neue Version bietet ein paar kleine Veränderungen in der Gewichtung der einzelnen Klangelemente, wirklich neue Elemente sind mir nicht aufgefallen. In der Neufassung sind alle Sprachsamples enthalten. Die Spielzeiten der Songs weisen fast keine Veränderungen auf. Die Lautstärke wurde tendenziell erhöht, jedoch hat sich das Klangbild auch dadurch nicht stark verändert. Die wenigen Wandlungsprozesse wurden alle sehr behutsam vollzogen.

Im Allgemeinen befindet sich die Produktionstechnik heute zweifellos auf einem höheren Niveau als vor 16 Jahren. Insofern überrascht es nicht, dass das neue Werk häufig klarer und differenzierter klingt als die Urversion. Sicher, ein „verwaschen“ wirkendes Klangbild kann auch seinen Reiz haben. Doch bei diesem Album begrüße ich die Veränderung hin zu einem klareren und differenzierteren Klangcharakter. Wobei es sich bei „Flowers From Exile – Revisited“ nicht um eine Neuaufnahme handelt. Vielmehr sind die Tonspuren von 2009 mithilfe der heutigen Technik neu aufbereitet worden.

Zu den einzelnen Stücken: Beim Ambient-Opener „To A Generation Of Destroyers“ ist vor allem am Anfang das Meeresrauschen deutlich stärker ausgeprägt. Am Ende versteht man das spanische Sprachsample besser, denn die Nebengeräusche sind nicht mehr so laut wie früher. Die Neufassung dauert 13 Sekunden länger.

Die großzügigen Klanglandschaften des Lieds „The Accidents Of Gesture“ klingen druckvoller und dynamischer als beim Original. Das Bassspiel wirkt markanter, die Percussion ist wuchtiger. Die famose Singstimme Reuters prägt noch stärker das Geschehen, vor allem in der Schlussphase. Bei den spanischen und deutschen Sprachsamples gibt es keine nennenswerten Veränderungen.

Bei der besonders sehnsuchtsvoll klingenden Folkballade „Odessa“ scheint mir die markanteste Umgestaltung zu sein, dass am Ende des wunderschönen Lieds der hochgradig emotionale Gesang Reuters mehr in den Vordergrund gerückt wurde.

Auch beim treibenden Folksong „The Secret Sons Of Europe“ offenbart sich die wichtigste Neuakzentuierung in der Schlussphase: Während die Percussion druckvoller und wilder gestaltet ist, tritt der folkloristische spanische Chorgesang dezenter in Erscheinung.

Bei der Klangcollage „The Hollow Self“ ist mir keine relevante Veränderung aufgefallen. Beim mitreißenden Lied „A Legacy Of Unrest“ wurde fast nichts verändert. Nur im Percussion-Bereich gibt es eine erwähnenswerte Neuerung: Die Lautstärke des Klangelements, das wie ein Peitschenknall klingt, wurde deutlich erhöht.

Der anschließende Folksong „To Die Among Strangers“ wirkt wuchtiger und dynamischer als früher. Zum Glück wurde an der Bedeutung der wehmütig klingenden Geige nichts verändert: Ihre kunstvoll umherschweifenden Klänge sind noch immer charakteristisch für das gesamte Lied. Gleichgeblieben ist auch, dass eine angedeutete Generalpause in der Schlussphase des Songs für einen dramaturgisch wirkungsvollen Effekt sorgt.

Beim Ambient-Track „A Culture Of Fragments“ sind die unheimlich wirkenden Geräusche stärker akzentuiert als im Original. Trotzdem kann man die Worte der Erzählstimme noch immer deutlich hören.

Die Neugestaltung der wunderschönen Folkballade „We Who Fell In Love With The Sea“ besteht vor allem darin, dass das elegische Geigenspiel in den Vordergrund gerückt wurde – besonders am Ende des Lieds. Der bedächtige Gesang Reuters ist durchgängig stärker gewichtet. Hingegen wurde das filigrane Gitarrenspiel eher in den Hintergrund geschoben. Ganz im Hintergrund ist noch immer nur sehr schwach ein gleichförmiges Gemurmel von Sprechstimmen zu hören.

Beim melodramatischen Folksong „Swords To Rust – Hearts To Dust“ wurde das Schlagzeugspiel in zwei Punkten leicht verändert: Es ist kräftiger und hat mehr Hall. Die herzerwärmende Folkballade „Flowers From Exile“ klingt so versöhnlich und beschwingt wie im Original. Die markanteste Neuerung ist, dass die perlenden Klavierklänge stärker ausgeprägt sind.

Am Ende des Albums verbreitet die Klangcollage „Flight In Formation“ eine sehr feierliche Atmosphäre. Die orchestralen Töne wirken noch bombastischer als früher. Jerome Reuters besonnene Erzählstimme wurde etwas mehr in den Vordergrund des Geschehens gerückt. Die CD endet so wie sie begonnen hat: mit Meeresrauschen.

Zum Cover und Booklet: Die Hintergrundfarbe ist beim Original weiß, jetzt ist sie grau. Auf dem Cover sind noch immer drei stehende Männer abgebildet. Das Coverbild sah früher wie ein Fotonegativ aus. Jetzt sind die drei Männer viel besser zu erkennen, das Bild sieht wie ein normales Foto aus. Wie bei der Erstveröffentlichung befinden sich im Booklet alle Songtexte und fünf Fotos. Vom fünften Foto abgesehen, sind es die gleichen Bilder. Das frühere fünfte Foto befindet sich nun auf der Rückseite des Covers. Und das Foto, das früher schemenhaft auf der CD zu sehen war, ist nun das fünfte Bild im Booklet. Früher war die Grundfarbe der CD weiß, heute ist sie rot. Nur sehr schemenhaft kann man trotz der roten Farbe die Konturen einiger Männer erkennen.

An der relativ guten Qualität der alten Fotos im Booklet hat sich nichts geändert. Auf den Bildern sieht man auch Reuters Großonkel, der im Spanischen Bürgerkrieg gegen die faschistischen Truppen des Generals Francisco Franco (1892-1975) gekämpft hat. Die Fotos von Reuters Großonkel und seinen Weggefährten sind im französischen Exil entstanden. Reuters Verwandter ist am besten auf dem Coverbild zu erkennen. Von den drei Männern ist er der links stehende.

Gut, dass durch die Neuveröffentlichung des Albums der Kampf gegen die faschistischen Truppen Francos erneut gewürdigt wird. Das Album passt in unsere Zeit, denn auch heute tobt in Europa ein Krieg zwischen der Demokratie und dem Faschismus. Jedoch findet heute dieser Krieg bekanntlich nicht in Spanien, sondern in der Ukraine statt. In seiner Klangkunst hat Jerome Reuter den Widerstand der Ukraine gegen den imperialistischen russischen Faschismus vielfach gewürdigt. Die Würdigung des Kampfs gegen den Faschismus ist für Reuter offensichtlich eine wahre Herzenssache.

Fazit: Die Neufassung des Meisterwerks „Flowers From Exile“ ist rundum gelungen! Wer das Original liebt, wird auch die neue Version lieben! „Flowers From Exile – Revisited“ bietet im Vergleich zur Urversion kleine, aber feine Veränderungen. Das Klangbild präsentiert sich tendenziell kräftiger, dynamischer, klarer und differenzierter als früher. Die Veränderung im Percussion-Bereich ist am auffälligsten. Hier wird mit deutlich mehr Energie agiert. Eine andere markante Veränderung betrifft Reuters großartige Stimme: Ihre Gewichtung ist stärker als zuvor. Die anderen Neuerungen sind ebenfalls faszinierend. Und, besonders wichtig: Die Neuauflage verzaubert mit der gleichen emotionalen Tiefe wie das Original! (stefan)

Auch 2026 geht das EASTER CROSS FESTIVAL in eine neue Runde. Stattfinden wird das Indoor-Event am 4. und 5. April 2026 in der Neckarhalle in Oberndorf am Neckar. Tickets gibt es im Vorverkauf für 84,90€ zzgl. Gebühren über die offizielle Festival-Website. Tagestickets schlagen mit je 54,90€ zzgl. Gebühren zu Buche.

Eine zweite Bandwelle hat nun J.B.O., INFECTED RAIN, BUTCHER BABIES sowie STEPFATHER FRED für das Event enthüllt. Dagegen mussten CYPECORE ihre Teilnahme leider absagen.

DARK CHAPEL, die neue Band um BLACK LABEL SOCIETY-Gitarrist Dario Lorina, hat ihr Debütalbum „Spirit In The Glass“ am 10. Oktober 2025 als Deluxe Edition neu aufgelegt. Am 8. August 2025 veröffentlichten SINSAENUM ihr drittes Album „In Devastation“. Jetzt legt die Band nochmal nach und hat ein Lyric-Video zu „Spiritual Lies“ hochgeladen.

Die Wartezeit verkürzte die Band zuvor mit einem weiteren Video zu „Obsolete & Broken„. Ende Juni hat die Band auch einen Clip zur zweiten Single „Last Goodbye“ veröffentlicht:

Produziert und gemischt wurde „In Devatstation“ von Lasse Lammert.

Neben Bandgründer Frédéric Leclercq (ex-DRAGONFORCE, KREATOR) kehren auf diesem dritten Studioalbum auch die Mitglieder Attila Csihar (Mayhem), Sean Zatorsky (Dååth), Stéphane Buriez (Loudblast) und Heimoth (Seth) zurück. An den Drums tritt Andre Joyzi in die Fußstapfen des verstorbenen Joey Jordison. Joyzi, ehemals Jordisons Drum-Techniker und langjähriges Mitglied der Live-Crew, wurde nicht nur wegen seines handwerklichen Könnens ausgewählt, sondern auch aufgrund der emotionalen Verbindung, die er zu Jordisons Vermächtnis mitbringt.

Die Horror Punk-Band CREEPER hat mit „Sanguivore II: Mistress of Death“ ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist das vierte Album der Engländer aus Southampton und folgt dem 2023er-Album „Sanguivore“ nach. Mit dem Clip „Prey For The Night“ ist jetzt eine weitere Hörprobe abrufbar.

Das neue Album sei eher eine thematische Fortsetzung als eine direkte Weiterführung der ursprünglichen Geschichte vom Vorgängeralbum. Wie eine klassische Horror-Anthologie spinnt es eine neue Geschichte aus derselben Blutlinie wie das Original, wobei diesmal das blutige Vampirherz als roter Faden dient, um eine brandneue Erzählung einzuführen. Die Geschichte führt zurück in die moralische Hysterie der Satanic Panic und ihre Auswirkungen auf die Welt des Hardrock und Heavy Metal der 80er Jahre.

„Sanguivore II: Mistress of Death“ wurde von Tom Dalgety (u.a. für GHOST tätig) produziert und wird am 31. Oktober 2025 via Spinefarm Records erscheinen. Vorab gibt es nach „Headstones“ zu „Blood Magick (It’s a Ritual)“ einen weiteren Video-Clip.

Venetian experimental neo-psych outfit Karma Voyage returns with their haunting new single and video, “Surrender to the Illusion”, taken from their forthcoming album Lands Beyond Eden, due October 17, 2025, via Icy Cold Records and Shyrec. The track is a sweeping, elemental meditation—equal parts lament and liberation—anchored by a powerful martial drumbeat and ascendant guitars that surge like flame through fog.

The song opens with a sense of ritual. A steady, marching rhythm propels the listener into a trance-like state as baritone vocals hover between invocation and confession. In “Surrender to the Illusion,” the subject stages a raw and vulnerable confession—an act of inner surrender unfolding within the folds of a whispered prayer. The lyrics move like a ritual of atonement, where the protagonist pleads to be guided in the attempt to discern what is real from what is illusory. The invocation centers not only on a person but on a presence—an embodiment of truth, connection, and salvation. “Surrender to the Illusion” feels at once grounded and celestial: a battle hymn for the soul’s quiet rebellion. Luca Castellaro’s voice drifts through the haze—brooding, monastic, and deeply human—before rising in moments of pure transcendence, a monk-like cry that cuts through the rhythmic storm. During these stripped-down interludes, when only the drums remain, the performance becomes devotional—part prayer, part exorcism.

As the song unfolds, guitars swell in a mesmerizing ascent—melodies spiraling like smoke, electrified and urgent, evoking the static tension before a lightning strike. The interplay between restraint and release mirrors the lyrical themes: light battling illusion, truth flickering at the edge of perception. By the song’s final crescendo, the listener is left trembling between serenity and catharsis.

The video for “Surrender to the Illusion” is a study in contrasts—fire and shadow, ritual and reflection. Shot outdoors at night, the band performs encircled by flames and barren branches, each member illuminated against the void. Smoke coils through the darkness as sparks dance across faces and instruments, echoing the song’s themes of transformation and transcendence. The elemental imagery evokes both pagan ceremony and monastic meditation, transforming the act of performance into something sacred and raw.

The result is brooding, intense, and cinematic—a continuation of Karma Voyage’s fascination with the thin veil between illusion and enlightenment. Every frame feels carved from chiaroscuro, the warmth of fire contending with the cold expanse of night.

Karma Voyage is an experimental neo-psychedelic band with strong new-wave influences, formed in late 2019 by Luca Castellaro (guitars/vocals) and Giuseppe Brunetti (guitars), later joined by Dennis Ercole (bass), Stefano Anoè (drums), and Giovanni Bertiato (keyboards). Their debut EP, preceded by the single “Untold Desires”, was released on October 18, 2021 via Icy Cold Records, earning acclaim within the underground neo-psych scene. Following their full-length Lights in Forgotten Places (2023), the band toured across Europe, refining their cinematic and introspective sound. We danced and sang and the music played

In the twilight of industrial Britain, The Specials released Ghost Town, a lament chillingly prophetic. Conceived by Jerry Dammers amid the boarded-up shopfronts and shuttered factories of early 1980s Coventry, it charted the nation’s descent into unrest and unemployment under Margaret Thatcher’s austere reign. Its mournful horns and echoing rhythms captured the eerie stillness of once-vibrant cities, where music had died and discontent festered. When riots soon ignited across the land, Ghost Town stood less as pop song than requiem; a dub elegy for a country adrift, and one of Britain’s most haunting works of social observation.

There’s a chill in the circuitry of WANTS’ reimagining of Ghost Town that hums with fatal beauty. Where the 1981 original wandered the ruins of Thatcher’s Britain, the Calgary-based band drives through a sleeker apocalypse in modern-day Canada. The dub heartbeat is gone; in its place, a chaotic pulse of synth, relentless and unblinking. Every beat feels measured against absence, every melody a reflection in the broken mirror of the past.

The production is clean yet claustrophobic, the air tight with tension. Synths loop like cold machinery grinding through memory, while the bassline sways with a restrained menace, too composed to explode. The voice, rich, trembling, human, becomes the bridge between eras, carrying Dammers’ ghostly lament into a digital afterlife. WANTS exhumes the feeling behind the original song, translating urban desolation into something that moves the body while freezing the blood.

Director Winona Julian’s video deepens the unease: a fever dream of phosphorescent light and forgotten corridors. Neon hues spill across stone ruins, where phantoms wander like relics from another decade’s despair. The color palette burns strange and artificial, a theatre of the unreal…the kind that feels too vivid to dismiss as fantasy. The visual language suggests both decay and resurrection: a spectral rave for the living and the lost.

The song strides forward with purpose, every element balanced like architecture under pressure; the synths scaffolded against silence, the drums echoing in the hollow of history. It’s dance music built for ruins, ceremonial in its pulse and unflinching in its mood.

As the first glimpse of their debut In Plain Sight (due November 14), Ghost Town feels like a declaration from a band aware of the lineage they inhabit: post-punk’s tension, darkwave’s precision, and a fascination with the fragile structures that hold a civilization together. There’s a sense that WANTS have studied collapse not as spectacle but as inheritance, building from its debris something both mournful and strangely magnetic.

The bomb stands as humanity’s supreme paradox: intellect wedded to annihilation. In its glare, centuries of thought, labor, and tenderness could vanish like mist. The menace is not only in its force, but in the ease with which men might summon it. The world’s libraries could crumble to ash, its cities to echoes, its memories to silence. Like Burgess Meredith in The Twilight Zone, the last survivor would stand amid the wreckage: time enough at last, but no world left to share it. Civilization’s final monument would be a pair of broken spectacles glinting in the dust.

There is a terrible beauty in Vidi Aquam’s The Last Man On Earth, a song that feels less like a prophecy. Born from the ruins of Milan’s underground in 1994, the duo (Daniele Viola and Nikita) return with a work that peers into the abyss with clear eyes. It is a requiem for a species too clever for its own survival, an elegy written in tears. Vidi Aquam do not chase the noise of the present; they build from the bones of the past: steel, dust, memory. Their sound recalls the discipline of early British Cold Wave, yet it stands apart, shaped by decades of endurance in the Italian underground. Lights and Shadows, their thirteenth release, feels like a culmination: a meditation on collapse, survival, and the strange dignity of those who persist in creating while the world burns around them.

The Last Man On Earth moves with precision: a skeletal drum machine sets the pace, unyielding and mechanical, while guitars arc through the void like remnants of radio signals from a world long destroyed. Nikita’s voice arrives calm yet distant, as if transmitted through the static of a dying civilization. There is poetry in her restraint; each phrase falls with the quiet weight of realization, the understanding that time itself may soon be irrelevant.

The video deepens this sense of desolation. Rendered in stark monochrome through the cold hand of artificial intelligence, it follows the solitary figure of the last living man as he wanders through the carcass of a planet. No bombast, no melodrama, only the silent testimony of ruin. Buildings lean like broken teeth, and the horizon itself seems to breathe in mourning. It is the visual echo of the music’s pulse: steady, fated, and final.

To listen is to stand beside that final man, staring across the ruins of civilization, understanding too late that silence has become the planet’s only anthem. Vidi Aquam offers no salvation, only the mirror. In that reflection lies the uncomfortable truth: that our extinction may already have a soundtrack, and it hums quietly, beautifully, from the ashes.
