Die Epic Thrash Metal-Band DESERT NEAR THE END hat einen Labeldeal bei Theogonia Records unterschrieben. Dieser Deal sieht den Release des neuen Albums “Tides of Time” vor, dem sechsten Album der Griechen.

Die Sammlung von Liedern, die die Erhabenheit gefallener Städte, gefallener Helden und Könige und vergessener Geschichten heraufbeschwören, wird am 6. Dezember 2024 erscheinen.

Dutch post-punk outfit Desinteresse has just announced the release of De Profundis Clamavi, a compilation cassette on their Decadence label that harks back to the stark chill of 1980s French coldwave. Bart and Sem, the Dutch duo behind Desinteresse, know a thing or two about the stripped-down, no-frills approach that fueled those underground compilations. They’re not here for the gloss—they’re here to capture raw energy, straight from the basement, with just the right amount of frostbite.

De Profundis Clamavi digs deep into the coldwave graveyard and drags out a few old ghosts…but it’s no nostalgia trip. This release uses their inspirations to inject fresh blood into the underground scene.  The compilation features a tight roster—Âmes Solitaires, De Vergissing, Jeux Interdits, Tout Debord, Desinteresse, and Frénésie—with each band sharing a connection to Desinteresse.

De Profundis Clamavi also includes two live tracks from Desinteresse, alongside two demos from their earlier incarnation as Jeux Interdits, offering a glimpse into the band’s evolution.

UNTO OTHERS haben nun auch einen Clip zu “Pet Sematary” geteilt. Der Song stammt ist ein digitaler Bonus-Track des aktuellen Albums “Never, Neverland”, das am 20. September 2024 veröffentlicht wurde.

Zuvor teilte die Band ein Video zu Suicide Today” und eines zu “Momma Likes the Door Closed”. Gabriel Franco kommentiert den ungewöhnlich harten Track so:

„Komisch, dass ich nicht high war, als ich das diesen Song schrieb –  er ist schon ziemlich schräg. Mit Elementen aus Punk/Thrash/Hardcore/Post Punk/Goth und Metal ist ‚Momma Likes The Door Closed‘ unser Versuch, einen B-Movie-Horrorfilm der 80er Jahre musikalisch nachzustellen. Brock dazu ein Video geschaffen, das man sich unbedingt zusammen mit dem Song ansehen muss Schatten tanzen über den Boden, öffne auf keinen Fall die Tür!“

Im Juli stellte die Band einen Visualizer zu “Angel Of The Night”vor, und auch das Video zu “Raigeki” kann man bei YouTube sehen.

Mit “Raigeki” veröffentlichten UNTO OTHERS die zweite Single in diesem Jahr. Schon im Mai meldete sich die Band mit dem ersten neuen Material seit dem 2021er Album “Strength” zurück und veröffentlichte ein Video zu “Butterfly” bei YouTube.  „Butterfly“ wurde wie die neue Platte von Tom Dalgety in Portland produziert und abgemischt, das Musikvideo kommt von Zev Deans.

UNTO OTHERS waren im Sommer auf Tour, die Band spielte nicht nur auf einigen Festivals, sondern auch in Clubs in Berlin, München und Hamburg.

Mit “Blood And Angels’ Tears” ist am 20. September 2024 via Scarlet Records das neue Album der Progressive Power Metal-Band VISION DIVINE erschienen. Das neunte Album der Italiener ist der erste Teil einer zweiteiligen Saga: Die Geschichte spielt in einer fernen Epoche und dreht sich um drei Engel, die wegen ihrer Unentschlossenheit während des katastrophalen Krieges zwischen Luzifer und Erzengel Michael aus dem Himmel verbannt wurden.

“Blood And Angels’ Tears” wurde von Simone Mularoni (DGM) im Domination Studio gemixt und gemastert und mit einem Cover-Artwork von Augusto Silva (u.a. für SECRET SPHERE tätig) ausgestattet. Nach einem Video-Clip zu “The Broken Past” – mit den Gast-Sängern Ray Alder (FATES WARNING) und Alessandro Conti (TWILIGHT FORCE) – und dem Vorab-Track “Drink Our Blood” – mit AC Wild (BULLDOZER) – gibt es nun mit “Preys” einen weiteren Video-Clip.

TREMONTI hat mit “The End Will Show Us How” ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist das sechste Album des von Gitarrist, Sänger und Songwriter Mark Tremonti betriebenen Projekts. Produziert wurde das Album von Michael “Elvis” Baskette.

“The End Will Show Us How” wird am 10. Januar 2025 via Napalm Records erscheinen. Vorab gibt es nach “Just Too Much” auch einen Video-Clip zu “The Mother, The Earth And I”. “Just Too Much” rufe dazu auf, immer weiter zu machen und sich gegen Widerstände durchzusetzen.

Weiterhin werden die US-Amerikaner gemeinsam mit den wieder vereinigten CREED Anfang 2025 auf Europa-Tour sein.

Ihr zweites Studioalbum stellen WEITE in Aussicht: “Oase” erscheint am 22. November 2024 via Stickman Records. Das Artwork der rund 60 Minuten langen Platte gestaltete Sofia Hjortberg. Gitarrist Ben Lubin erläutert:

“Wir sind wirklich stolz auf dieses Album und haben sehr hart daran gearbeitet, all unsere Einflüsse darin zu vereinen: alles vom 70er Jahre Prog, den wir alle lieben, bis hin zu Krautrock, Americana und Ambient. Dadurch ist es kompositorisch viel stärker, und wir sind eine viel bessere Band, nachdem wir im letzten Jahr, seit die erste LP herauskam, Konzerte gespielt haben.“

Die Schweizer Metalcore-Band VICIOUS RAIN hat eine weitere neue Single hochgeladen: “Hysteria” gibt es als Musivkideo bei YouTube und enthält ein Gastfeature der Labelkollegen von HALF ME.

Sänger David Häusermann erklärt den Hintergrund des Stücks:

‘The Devil & Lovers’ ist ein gefühlvoller Song, der die bittersüße Geschichte zweier Menschen erzählt, die eine tiefe Leidenschaft und Verbundenheit teilen, aber durch die Umstände oder das Timing getrennt werden. Der Song fängt die intensiven Gefühle von Liebe und Sehnsucht ein und symbolisiert gleichzeitig die Hindernisse, die zwei Menschen davon abhalten können, zusammen zu sein. Es ist ein Zeugnis für die universelle menschliche Erfahrung unerfüllter Sehnsucht und die Kämpfe, die wir bei der Verfolgung unserer Herzenswünsche haben.”

CARNAL TOMB aus Berlin sind aktuell eine der brutalsten Underground-Death Metal-Bands. Die Fuzzy Garage / Psychedelic Rock-Band BIKINI BEACH hat mit “Cursed” ein neues Album angekündigt. Der siebte Release des Trios aus Konstanz bzw aus der Schweiz spiegelt das Chaos der letzten Jahre wider: von der Pandemie bis zum Krieg in Europa.

“Cursed” wurde von Rodrigo “Rod” González (DIE ÄRZTE ) gemixt und mit einem Cover-Artwork von Bassistin Charlotte Love ausgestattet. Release-Termin ist der 7. Februar 2025 via La Pochette Surprise Records / Membran. Vorab gibt es mit “Liar Liar” einen Video-Clip.

“Wie man sich vorstellen kann, geht es in dem Song um Lügen”, sagt die Band. “Manchmal hat man das Gefühl, dass die ganze Welt um einen herum lügt. Vor allem, wenn sie so offensichtlich lügt. Wenn man schon belogen wird, dann sollte man sich wenigstens bemühen, dass es eine logische Lüge ist und nicht völliger Unsinn, den man sofort durchschaut.”

NIGHTWISH haben eine weitere Single von ihrem zehnten Studioalbum veröffentlicht und einen Clip zur Ballade “Lanternlight” geteilt.

Das neue Album trägt den Titel “Yesterwynde”, es ist am 20. September 2024 via Nuclear Blast erschienen. Zuvor gab es als Vorgeschmack ein Video zu “An Ocean Of Strange Islands”.

Mit “The Day Of…” haben NIGHTWISH im August einen weiteren Track der Platte veröffentlicht – und wollen ein wenig Hoffnung verbreiten, wie Tuomas Holopainen erklärt:

“‘The Day Of…’ vermittelt Hoffnung der Song soll uns von der  Angst und dem Elend, dem wir täglich ausgesetzt sind, befreien. Es ist ein langer Weg in bessere Welt – aber es gibt keine Monster unter dem Bett, daran erinnern uns die Kinder in dem Lied.”

Die erste Single “Perfume Of The Timeless” gibt es seit Mai als Clip bei YouTube. Tuomas Holopainen kommentiert den Track:

„Du bist das Ergebnis einer ununterbrochenen Kette von Millionen von Vorfahren und deren Lieben. ‘Perfume Of The Timeless’ erinnert uns alle an diese erstaunliche Tatsache. Und wenn du nicht erstaunt bist, hör es dir noch einmal an, denn es ist wichtig.“

“Yesterwynde” erscheint auf CD, Vinyl sowie digital. Darüber hinaus ist die Platte in verschiedenen Varianten und Deluxe-Sets erhältlich.

Die Stoner Rock-Bands ELEPHANT TREE und LOWRIDER haben mit “The Long Forever” ein neues Split-Album angekündigt. Der Titel „The Long Forever“ stammt von dem Spitznamen, den ELEPHANT TREE-Sänger/Gitarrist Jack Townley dem mehrwöchigen Koma gab, in dem er aus medizinischen Gründen nach einem fast tödlichen Fahrradunfall Anfang 2023 lag. Er träumte, ohne aufzuwachen, und verlor jegliches Zeitgefühl, während sein Geist versuchte, die Tortur zu verarbeiten und zu bewältigen. Release-Termin ist der 25. Oktober 2024 via Blues Funeral Recordings. Vorab gibt es nach einem Video-Clip zum Titeltrack mit “And The Horse You Rode In On” einen weiteren Video-Clip.

Emerging from the flourishing underground of Austin, Texas, Figure Factor has been quietly crafting a sound that resonates with the raw edge of post-punk, the swagger of new wave, and the brooding atmosphere of gothic-laced cold wave. Formed in 2018, the trio—comprising Jake Lauterstein on vocals and guitar, Lauren Hemphill on bass, and Christian Ellsworth on synth—channels the spirits of Bauhaus, The Cure, Adam Ant, and Sad Lovers and Giants, yet infuses their music with a chaotic energy born from sweat-drenched DIY queer-punk scenes and the cathartic release of dance-punk rhythms.

Their live performances are a spectacle of controlled anarchy, with band members whirling through feverish tempos, thrashing amidst gothic breakdowns, before slipping into moments of dreampop introspection, where love songs find refuge in the pauses. It’s no wonder Figure Factor sounds the way they do, having sharpened their edge by supporting seminal acts like French Coldwave pioneers Trisomie 21, sharing the San La Muerte festival stage with German post-punk legends, Pink Turns Blue, and backing Washington D.C.’s Priests

Figure Factor returns to the fray with their sophomore album, Once More With Feelings, a visceral shot of adrenaline to a broken heart that refuses to settle for the familiar. The album bristles with the emotional intensity of a wake, one that veers unpredictably between the heavy gravity of mourning and the cathartic release of revelry. It’s a liminal waystation place where joy and sorrow collide, folding into one another like waves, leaving behind a resonance that feels both disarming and exhilarating.

“‘Once More With Feelings’ is an album about grabbing your mindful machete and slicing through poisonous plasma/sadness demons,” the band reflects. “The floor falls out from under you, and you’re floating or falling, but the air’s been sucked out of the room. All you have is two paper clips and a rubber band. You tighten the rubber across the paper clips and begin to pluck away, the dull hollow band vibrating at an utterly delightful frequency. Changing the tension, a melody takes shape, and the floor reappears. A clear cube rises up out of the floor, and you’re soaring through a teal web of geometric pleasure.“

As the album unfolds as a journey through emotional landscapes, each track delves into themes of inner turmoil, existential dread, and the relentless pursuit of meaning.

“Mask” opens with a pulsing cold wave undercurrent, its catchy, resonant guitar riffs laying the foundation for vocals that oscillate between conversational asides and dramatic exclamations. Wrapped in imagery of isolation, sleepless nights, and the incessant demands of needy cats—a subtle nod to the lingering specter of the pandemic—the song captures the tension of being pulled in opposing directions by unseen “beasts of burden.” It’s a reflection on the weight of love and internal conflict, where hiding pain becomes routine as the mind races through unresolved fears in the encroaching darkness.

Transitioning to “Misty Eyes,” the band infuses subtle Texan twangs into their guitars while buzzing organ synths lend a European flair. The vocal melody is both captivating and refreshingly unorthodox, performing acrobatic leaps as it tackles the heavy subject of generational trauma. Through sharp lyrical introspection, the song peels back layers of hurt, echoing the frustration of feeling adrift and powerless. The imagery of burning crowds and the repeated command to “stop” underscores a desperate fight for boundaries and control amidst chaos.

With “Blue Dream,” Figure Factor delivers a buoyant, funky track propelled by rhythmic bounce and embellished with vintage post-punk guitar flourishes. The song delves into recurring dreams, night terrors, and the liberating acts of yoga and dance—sonically reminiscent of Bauhaus led by an audacious Adam Ant. Here, the speaker confronts inner demons, transforming a once sorrowful dream into an emblem of ongoing struggle and resilience. It’s a nightly battle against the past, fueled by grit and an unwavering resolve to press forward.

The icy romance of “Levitate Me” is draped in brooding guitars and synths that echo The Cure’s melancholic tones. Addressing themes of addiction, childhood mysticism, and inspirations drawn from Big Joe Williams’ “Elevate Me Baby,” the song evokes a sense of drifting through dissonance and uncertainty. The speaker grapples with feelings of disconnection, caught in an endless spiral while longing for elevation—a release from confusion and a quest for clarity amid the turmoil.

“Sleeping Giants” introduces an anxious guitar melody that unfolds into a thick bassline and art-rock vocals reminiscent of David Byrne’s eccentric delivery. The track is a gritty commentary on dystopian indifference, a heartfelt plea for kindness, and a subtle nod to Carl Sagan’s contemplations on humanity. It embodies the exhaustion with empty promises in a world numbed by apathy, where unseen forces manipulate from the shadows. The speaker is cornered but unyielding, ready to ignite the streets not with rage but with a transformative love that defies the surrounding decay.

An instrumental respite arrives with “Embers,” a stripped-down piece that serves as a meditation on Korg’s Dynamic Phrase Synthesizer, the Kaossilator. It’s the calm after the storm, a moment of introspective calm before diving back into the emotional depths.

Emerging from this tranquility, “Combust” builds into a brooding synthwave landscape adorned with cinematic dirges and Cure-like riffs. The song is a visceral exploration of love’s intense flames, where the boundaries between music and emotion blur. The speaker is enveloped in a whirlwind of passion, urging a surrender to spontaneity and the embrace of the present. Chaos intertwines with harmony as freedom and connection fuel the fervor of this relentless pursuit.

Turning towards brighter sonic horizons, “Hollow Earth” melds shimmering melodies with the jangle-pop sensibilities of The Ocean Blue and the quirky charm of Talking Heads. Diverging from themes of love, the track navigates the murky waters of conspiracy theories, cults, and the surreal vibes of anime soundtracks. The speaker, enveloped in uncertainty, chooses trust over skepticism, clinging to a flicker of hope even as darkness encroaches.

Reasserting their post-punk roots, “Hush Money” delivers a tight rhythm section beneath a cascade of vocal critiques. The song paints a grim portrait of a world derailed by narcissistic politicians and unchecked environmental decay. Machines hum ominously in the backdrop of a dystopian reality where control is wielded without accountability. The speaker confronts this desolation, urging a surrender—not of defeat but of acknowledgment—to the manipulations at play. It’s a bitter reflection on broken promises and the corrosive nature of power.

Die Brass Metal-Band OTTONE PESANTE hat mit “Battle Of Qadesh” einen Video-Clip mit LILI REFRAIN ihres kommenden Albums “Scrolls of War” veröffentlicht. Es ist nach “Brassphemy Set in Stone” (2016), “Apocalips” (2018) und “DoomooD” (2020) das vierte Album der Italiener und folgt auf 2022er-EP “…and the Black Bells Rang“.

Ausgehend von einem Dokument aus dem 1. Jahrhundert n. Chr., das Ende der 1940er Jahre in Qumran (Palästina) gefunden wurde, die “Scrolls of War”, ist es das erste Album einer Konzepttrilogie über die Geschichte der Blasmusik.

“Vor langer Zeit gab es eine Zeit, in der Dürren, Hungersnöte, Erdbeben, Überschwemmungen und Epidemien innerhalb eines kurzen Zeitraums fast gleichzeitig auftraten und die Völker zur Migration zwangen, um zu überleben. Diese Massenbewegungen waren verzweifelt und führten zu grausamen und äußerst gewalttätigen Kriegen. Die Alten heiligten diese Kriege im Namen eines Gottes, der sie zum Sieg führte, und überlieferten die so genannten „Kriegsregeln“. Die Priester hatten die Aufgabe, die Bewegungen des Heeres mit dem Klang ihrer Trompeten und Hörner anzukündigen”, sagt die Band.

“Scrolls of War” wird am 18. Oktober 2024 via Aural Music erscheinen.

Beweisen müssen IN EXTREMO sicherlich nichts mehr: Seit über 20 Jahren durchgehend auf dem Treppchen der deutschen Albumcharts, davon viermal gar an der Spitze. Natürlich schnuppert man da irgendwann Höhenluft und weil die Freiheit über den Wolken bekanntlich grenzenlos sein soll, befördern die Spielleute die Dinger kurzerhand zur Seite. Zumindest im übertragenen Sinn, denn mit dem „Wolkenschieber“ besingen die Spielleute zum Auftakt keinen magischen Akt, sondern eine hochprozentige Eigenkreation, deren Wirkung jedoch die gleiche ist.

Das Glück schmieden sich IN EXTREMO in der Folge selbst – mit locker trottendem Rhythmus, bratenden Gitarren und dem Schalk im Nacken. So haben wir das Sextett seinerzeit kennengelernt und so pflegt es auch heute noch sein Selbstverständnis: Vom Rock-Debüt „Weckt die Toten!“ (1998) bis zur gleichnamigen Single, die auf „Wolkenschieber“ nun mit einem Feature von Henry Rauhbein (RAUHBEIN) aufpoliert wurde. Rotzig und ungezügelt wie eh und je präsentiert sich die Formation hier, ohne allerdings die eingängigen Schalmei-Spitzen oder die zarten Harfenklänge als Gegenpol zu vergessen.

Gefühl, klassischer Mittelalter Rock und einige Gastbeiträge: IN EXTREMO schöpfen auf “Wolkenschieber” aus dem Vollen
Den eigenen Anfängen wiederum gedenkt das tanzbare „Ólafur“ in isländischer Sprache, bevor die gefühlvolle Ballade “Feine Seele” einen wehmütigen Blick in die Vergangenheit wagt. Von Verlust und Trauer erzählt Sänger Michael Rhein in ehrlicher und ungeschönter Weise, während Oliver SaTyr (FAUN) die Nyckelharpa bedient. Der Adressat bleibt ungenannt, doch schlägt das charakteristische Instrument natürlich unweigerlich eine Brücke zum 2022 verstorbenen Ex-Mitglied Yellow Pfeiffer.

Zwischen Gefühl und klassischem Mittelalter Rock bleibt wenig Platz für Experimente, den IN EXTREMO dafür ohne Scheu zum Risiko nutzen: Ein kurzer Hardstyle-Break in „Katzengold“ erinnert an ELECTRIC CALLBOY, wohingegen JOACHIM WITTs pathetische Erzählstimme in „Des Wahnsinns fette Beute“ zielsicher und mehr noch ins Mark trifft als die orchestrale Begleitung. Weniger Eindruck hinterlässt derweil der Gastbeitrag Björn Boths (SANTIANO), der dem Malen-nach-Zahlen-Charakter von „Unser Lied“ leider keinerlei Mehrwert beschert.

Nicht jede Idee zündet, doch IN EXTREMO beweisen dennoch Konstanz
Sattes Metal-Riffing mit ganz dezentem Thrash-Einschlag verbindet „Blutmond“ mit einem schmissigen Refrain, bevor „Geschenkt ist geschenkt“ ähnlich rockig-eingängige Melodien mit Hackbrett und Marktmusik-Interlude anreichert. Ihr Handwerk verstehen IN EXTREMO also auch auf „Wolkenschieber“ noch ganz ausgezeichnet, obgleich nicht jede Idee in gleichem Maß zünden mag („Aus Leben gemacht“) und auch die großen Hits diesmal Mangelware sind.

Eine Folge der dünnen Luft ganz oben? Wohl kaum, denn wer seit zwei Dekaden an der Spitze und mit bemerkenswerter Konstanz mitmischt, hat darüber hinaus noch ganz andere Qualitäten vorzuweisen. Beweisen müssen uns IN EXTREMO das sicherlich nicht mehr – dass sie es mit dem durch und durch ungezwungenen „Wolkenschieber“ trotzdem tun, spricht eine deutliche Sprache, wo wir die Spielleute in ihrem bald anbrechenden vierten Jahrzehnt finden werden: nicht unter dem Meer, sondern mit ausgestreckten Armen weit über den Wolken.

Die Alternative Pop / Rock / Folk-Band KALANDRA hat nach dem Video zu “Are You Ready?” mit dem Opener “I Am” einen weiteren Video-Clip ihres neuen Albums “A Frame of Mind” veröffentlicht. Das Musikvideo stammt von der vielseitigen Filmemacherin, Puppenmacherin und Stop-Motion-Künstlerin Martyna Koleniec.

Es ist nach “The Line” das zweite Album der Norweger und ist am 13. September 2024 via Norse Music erschienen.

Zuvor hat die Band ein Video zu “The State of the World” veröffentlicht. Das Lied kann als ein Gesang an die Menschheit verstanden werden, als ein Plädoyer für den Frieden.

Im Oktober 2023 ist mit “Bardaginn” eine weitere Single erschienen. Der Titel bedeutet “Kampf” oder “Schlacht”, ob er nun innerlich oder draußen in der realen Welt ausgetragen wird.

Die Band wird  zudem im Herbst 2024 gemeinsam mit LILI REFRAIN auf Europa-Tour sein. Mit im Gepäck haben die Norweger dabei auch ihr Debütalbum “The Line” (2020). Zum Albumtrack “Ensom” hat die Band erst kürzlich ein Live-Video veröffentlicht.

Seit 2003 nehmen IN EXTREMO zuverlässig auf dem Treppchen Platz. Viermal schaffte es die Mittelalter-Rock-Band nach ganz oben, zuletzt mit dem 2020 erschienenen “Kompass zur Sonne“. Dass es diesmal für “Wolkenschieber” (#2) knapp nicht gereicht hat, sehen wir daher weniger als Misserfolg denn als beeindruckender Beleg der Konstanz an, welche die Berliner an den Tag legen. Allein auf weiter Flur ist die Formation in den Top-10, denn aus dem Rock- und Metal-Bereich finden wir erst auf den Rängen zwölf und 13 weitere Vertreter. DIE NERVEN sichern die mit “Wir waren hier” den Letzteren der beiden. Metallisch wird es dagegen auf der 24, wo FLOTSAM AND JETSAMs “I Am The Weapon” nach dem erfolgreichen “Blood In The Water” (2021, #9) ein wenig zurückrudern muss.

VICTORY dürften mit Position 39 für “Circle Of Life” indes ganz zufrieden sein, wohingegen SATAN nach dem zwölften Rang für “Earth Infernal” (2022) nun die bittere Pille schlucken müssen. Für “Songs In Crimson” geht es abwärts bis auf Platz 88.

Neuerscheinungen der Kalenderwoche 38
An Neuerscheinungen fehlt es diese Woche nicht: Ganz oben mitmischen dürften NIGHTWISH mit “Yesterwynde”, während CHARLOTTE WESSELS mit “The Obsession” ihr Soloprojekt endgültig festigen will. „Es ist etwas, worauf ich nicht gerade stolz bin, aber diese Geschichte von zwei Liebenden, die sich aufeinander fokussieren, während die Welt auseinander fällt… Das kommt aus einer sehr realen Situation, in der ich mich in der Vergangenheit befunden habe. Es gab Zeiten, in denen ich mich in Dinge wie Lust und Drogen vertieft habe, anstatt mich der harten Realität eines Lebens in Armut in einer Großstadt wie Los Angeles zu stellen. Manchmal ist es einfacher, von dem besessen zu sein, was vor einem liegt, eine einfache Flucht, sei es ein Partner oder eine Substanz, und am Ende ist man absichtlich blind für das große Ganze. Diese Band ist unser Liebesbrief an die dunkle Seite unserer menschlichen Natur.“

A breakup can hit like a sucker punch, leaving you reeling, staring at the pieces of yourself scattered on the floor. It’s the kind of blow that makes you question who you are, stripping away the layers until you’re nothing but a shadow, a ghost of who you used to be. You float through the days, going through the motions, but you’re not really there. You’ve handed over your power, let someone else hold the reins, and now they’re gone, leaving you adrift. But here’s the thing: no one’s going to save you. You’ve got to stand in front of the mirror and see what’s left.

Dark Synthpop chanteuse Carrellee, out of Madison, WI, deals in dark synths and moody melodies, the kind that slink through the night like a cat on the prowl. Her latest single, Like A Ghost, drips with eerie allure, as her soft, whispering vocals glide over scorched synths and sharp beats. Think Crystal Castles or The Knife after a hard night out, or Ladytron with a little more edge.

Like A Ghost‘s lyrics cut deep, telling the tale of a woman waking up to the cold reality of a relationship gone sour.
