04.10.2024 - DOGMA: Coverversion von MADONNAs “Like a A Prayer”

04.10.2024 - Italian Darkwave Project The Spoiled Releases “Time” EP and Video for “Hole in A Chest”

My little pain, I wanna feel you inside
I wanna make you see my love has died
My little pain flows, never asking why
Always taking me down, it burns inside
Giovanni Santolla’s project, The Spoiled, crawls out of the shadows with Hole In A Chest, a jagged and unrelenting deep dive into the bitter void of tenebrous darkwave and post-punk despair. From the outset, the track gnashes at its chains, blending the cold metallic bite of industrial laced with downtrodden wails. Santolla’s voice—equal parts whisper and snarl—rumbles over layers of grinding guitars and mechanized percussion, dragging listeners through the muck of emotional decay.
There’s a bruised sensibility here, a rawness that echoes the sonic violence of Nine Inch Nails or The Soft Moon, but with a uniquely tortured undertone that’s as grimy as it is cathartic. The industrial dissonance hums like a broken machine, while ghostly melodies snake through the background, mirroring the bleak introspection of Alice in Chains or the gothic grandeur of Type O Negative. The result is a visceral sonic experience that revels in its own pain—a slow burn that never asks for forgiveness.
The accompanying video, directed by Stefania Carbonara, intensifies the single’s mood. A series of jarring, glitchy cuts thrust the viewer into a dreamscape that feels more like a nightmare—one in which nature’s slow, inevitable decay is played out against the backdrop of haunting, digitized surreality. Insects crawl over ancient bones, mountain goats stand stoically in a landscape drenched in blood-red hues, and the forests close in like a predator stalking its prey. It’s a grim meditation on the fragility of life, the constant push-pull between death and rebirth, leaving the viewer disoriented and unnerved.
Watch the video for “Hole In A Chest” below:
As The Spoiled ventures into 2024, they’ve also crafted their latest EP, Time, which serves as a snapshot of disillusionment and melancholy. Conceived as a collection of images and feelings inspired by the day-to-day grind, Time explores the end of love, suffering, and the inevitable passage of time that strips us of youthful idealism. The writing and recording of the EP began in the spring of 2024, following a period of profound reflection on life and death, channeling these experiences into somber, melancholic tracks. Each song, composed, recorded, and mixed by Santolla himself, pairs pulsating basslines with reverberated guitars, distorted synths, and cold, mechanical drum machines. The EP draws clear inspiration from darkwave contemporaries like The Soft Moon, Drab Majesty, and Twin Tribes, while also tipping its hat to genre legends The Cure, Joy Division, and Type O Negative. In a nod to the latter, the EP includes a reimagined post-punk rendition of Type O Negative’s iconic track “I Don’t Wanna Be Me,” a tribute woven with a distinct Spoiled twist.
Time, for The Spoiled, is an omnipresent specter—its passage marked by love lost, dreams broken, and the gradual erosion of hope. Each track is steeped in the melancholy of inevitability, lingering like the bitter aftertaste of a life misspent. With Hole In A Chest, they haven’t just made a song—they’ve crafted a dirge for our darkest hours.

04.10.2024 - A Red Window to the Soul — Harsh Symmetry Faces the Fear of Change in “Stained Glass”

I don’t wanna be
A twisted scene of flesh and blood
Just needed something to believe
And when it’s all been said and done
Change, whether personal or global, is unavoidable, yet we greet it with apprehension, perhaps even terror. The mind, ever protective of the known, clings desperately to its comforts, even when they no longer serve us. It’s the ambiguity that unsettles us—the potential for things to unravel, to spiral out of control. But change, like a storm, is indifferent to our resistance. It tears through the familiar, unsettling the foundations we thought were firm. And still, it beckons us to move with it, shaping who we are through its relentless force.
Stained Glass is the first single off Harsh Symmetry‘s upcoming six-song EP, On-Screen Death. Los Angeles artist Julian Sharwarko, operating under the banner of Harsh Symmetry, has swiftly etched out a niche in the darkwave landscape in the City of Angels. His work is a labyrinth of past and present, marrying the shadowy vibes of Depeche Mode and Echo and the Bunnymen with a modern pulse that stands alongside Lebanon Hanover, Twin Tribes, and She Past Away. His sound is a heady collision of brooding nostalgia and contemporary grit, sliding effortlessly into today’s underworld. It’s moody, it’s melancholic, and it’s unapologetically intense.
Stained Glass delves into feelings of disillusionment and emotional distance, painting a stark picture of a fractured identity. The stained glass metaphor conveys self-reflection and the painful process of confronting one’s own image, distorted by betrayal and internal strife. The speaker wrestles with the discomfort of seeing their true self, as well as the emotional weight of treachery, ultimately rejecting both the reflection and the feelings it stirs. This introspective, atmospheric track touches on themes of vulnerability, control, and the fragility of human connections.
“In the simplest terms the song is about change,” Shawarko muses. “The fear and dread of change for the worse, and the discomfort and ambiguity of change in general. It could be personal or it could be reflective of the world we live in, but it is most definitely intended to highlight the complexity and powerlessness of change.”
Harsh Symmetry melds humility and abstraction on this track, balancing atmospheric synths with Shawarko’s rich baritone, reminiscent of Phil Oakey from Human League. Much of the song came to life using a four-track cassette recorder, complemented by digital elements, resulting in a minimalist yet emotionally charged melody. His powerful voice glides over sleek, pulsating rhythms. The analogue and digital fusion lends a raw, authentic edge to the sleek production, bringing an organic touch to its moody, post-punk influences. In doing so, Harsh Symmetry creates a dynamic tension with understated power, and an enigmatic, haunting allure.

04.10.2024 - A Kiss of Despair — Philadelphia Dreampop Project Forest Circles Debuts Spellbinding New Single “Surrender”

Run your fingers through, with a kiss of despair
Will you remember me this way
I always wanted you to stay
In the ebb and flow of love, longing often arises from our deep attachment to impermanence. Heartbreak emerges not only from separation but from the realization that all connections are transient. We yearn to hold on, resisting the natural rhythm of beginnings and endings. Yet, in clinging, we create suffering, wishing things could be otherwise. The inevitable goodbye, the weight of unspoken words, reminds us that love, like all experiences, is a dance of becoming and passing away. True freedom comes in embracing both the love and its loss, without resistance.
Surrender, the latest single from Philadelphia’s Forest Circles, led by multi-instrumentalist Angel Ocana, skillfully melds dream-pop, post-punk, and shoegaze, addressing the grief of loss and unspoken goodbyes. Surrender, opening with mournful synth pads before breaking into a dirge like drumming, carries a melancholic tone throughout – the feeling of digging through piles of memories and walking in the shifting sands of time. The tender words, sung in Ocana’s beautiful tenor, reflect on the painful inevitability of separation, grappling with unspoken words and the unshakable pull of an impending goodbye. It’s a plea for connection amidst lies, underscoring a poignant struggle between love and inevitable loss. Fans of Slowdive, The Sundays, and My Bloody Valentine will find a kindred spirit in Forest Circles.

04.10.2024 - ShadowMouth Debuts With Gothic-tinged Single “Poison Nostalgia” Featuring Dombroski

Bated breath for memories
They haunt the familiar night
Whispers forgotten dreams
Shadows clawing the night
When we dwell too deeply on the past, we risk letting it shape our present in unhealthy ways. Nostalgia, though comforting at times, can cloud our perception and bind us to moments long gone. When we invest too much energy in memories, especially painful ones, we distort our ability to live in the now. The past becomes an anchor, pulling us away from the flow of life, stalling our growth and making it difficult to see clearly. True wisdom lies in appreciating the past while remaining firmly grounded in the present.
Rick Polo is already known in his native Western Pennsylvania for his stints in Baroque Monody and Heck Vektor. Now he embarks on his latest venture, a solo act called ShadowMouth. This marks a sharp new direction for the artist, blending goth, post-punk, and industrial with a gritty heavy alternative edge. The concept of ShadowMouth began around the ideas of redemption; rising from hell and back, but allowing the flames to immolate the sins of the past. From these sessions comes the Purification By Fire EP, scheduled for release in late 2024.
Poison Nostalgia, is a punchy original track, while the B-side offers a brooding cover of Joy Division’s Twenty Four Hours. With Brooks Farris on drums and production, and Dombrowski on vocals, the trio explodes with an intense, atmospheric sound.
The lyrics reflect a deep sense of melancholy, with vivid imagery of forgotten memories, broken hearts, and lost dreams. The speaker is consumed by the past, haunted by shadows and whispers of what once was. Themes of time, pain, and betrayal are interwoven, with nostalgia acting as both a comfort and a poison. The recurring refrain underscores the emotional weight of reliving bittersweet moments, while the scars of memory linger like jagged thorns, symbolizing the lasting impact of unresolved pain and longing.
The cover of Twenty-Four Hours is faithful to the original, but the guitar has a more bombastic, industrial sound. It is heavier, weighted down with the grief of the collective.

04.10.2024 - Hot Sherlock Makes a Grand Debut with New-Wave/Art-Pop EP “Everything Works Out in the End”

Athens, GA stalwart Gene Woolfolk, known for his time with Vincas and Vision Video, has taken a creative detour with his new experimental rock outfit, Hot Sherlock.
Their debut EP, Everything Works Out In The End, serves up a kaleidoscopic fusion of influences, blending Peter Gabriel’s theatrical flair, Genesis’ prog-rock complexity, Bowie’s art-pop leanings, the cosmic musings of Yes, and Kate Bush’s avant-garde aesthetics. Woolfolk also incorporates psychedelic textures and hip-hop rhythms, evoking the eclectic spirit of Carl Stephenson’s Forest For The Trees and Beck’s genre-defying sound. This experimental offering is both nostalgic and innovative, pushing boundaries with refreshing audacity.
“This EP tells a bittersweet story of conflict and resolution between two people,” says Woolfolk. “The phrase everything works out in the end has been a personal anti-anxiety/self-soothing mantra of mine lately and it made its way into song form as I was improvising vocal takes for the instrumental I was creating at the time. I wanted this song to act as a musical mantra and having it come to a triumphant and peaceful close felt like the right move to me.”
Throwin’ Shade opens the album with a fiery charge, reflecting the raw emotion of uncontrollable rage. The intensity peaks with I Will Destroy You, where blistering guitar riffs mirror the heat of an all-out fight, juxtaposed with moments of clarity. Stillness Speaks follows, a meditative, regret-laden reflection on the damage left behind. The title track, Everything Works Out In The End, brings resolution, offering the insight that from conflict comes growth. Expansive and psychedelic, the track feels like a mind wrestling with the complexities of human nature and the quest for self-improvement.

04.10.2024 - Before I Drift Away — Los Angeles’ Casket Cassette Debuts Penitent New Single “Apology”

I am done for
I am losing the war
Before I drift away
I just wanna say
Sorry I’m not really living
Humanity, in its grand experiment, has often stumbled. We have polluted rivers, divided nations, and waged wars—driven by ego, ignorance, and short-sightedness. Yet, it is in our failures that we also confront the absurdity of existence. We realize, despite the messes we’ve made, there’s no going back. The general consensus -for better or worse – seems to be, “Screw it, we’ll move forward anyway.”
Casket Cassette, led by Los Angeles native Constant Williams, powerfully addresses this paradoxical nature of humanity – forever choosing the worst option for existence, it seems. A solo endeavor, Williams blends the moody synth-pop of the 80s with deeply personal, poetic reflections on the modern human condition. Casket Cassette’s music navigates the tension between emotional peaks and the brutal realities of life.
The post-punk anthem “Apology” delves into profound regret and sorrow for not truly living or finding one’s way in life. It reflects on feelings of failure, acknowledges struggles, and offers an apology for not being able to navigate life’s complexities. The lyrics convey a sense of resignation, as the penitent protagonist feels they are slipping away and yearns to express their remorse before it’s too late. With his mournful, echoing voice, one finds compadres in contemporary acts such as Harsh Symmetry, Haunt Me, Twin Ion Engine, and Creux Lies.
“I’m always interested in the radical state of oppositional symbiosis between ecstasy and agony, darkness and light, happiness and sadness,” says Williams. “To me, this is what it means to be human. In Apology, I wanted to unpack this further, creating something danceable that also explores an exhausted surrender to the obscurities and confusions of life.”
The beauty of life isn’t in perfection but in embracing uncertainty, acknowledging our missteps, and forging ahead. It’s in this collective decision to continue, despite the chaos, that we find resilience, adaptability, and a curious, stubborn hope.
Listen to Apology below. You can also purchase the single on Bandcamp here.
Casket Cassette, a name rooted in a childhood memory, draws its inspiration from a live song recorded onto a cassette by Williams’ father and placed in his grandfather’s casket. This fusion of the personal and the sombre informs Williams’ music, which delves deep into themes of mental illness, addiction, grief, and heartbreak, while leaving room for glimpses of resilience and humour. Having recently completed the prestigious Iowa Writers’ Workshop, Williams brings a distinct literary perspective to his songwriting. Touring alongside Blood Club and DustBowlChampion, Williams’ performances blend introspection and catharsis into an exorcism of raw emotion.

04.10.2024 - Living Amongst Your Demons — Rome’s NapstaMind Debuts New Single “Rovi”
Vive tra i tuoi demoni.
Ferisce accarezzandoti.
Ti uccide assecondandoti
Napstamind, a trio from Rome, channels the 1970s’ psychedelic pulse through a gritty modern rock filter. Their performances shift between brooding, introspective echoes and high-energy fuzz-laden riffs, fueled by the dynamic voices of Michele Cipollini, Lorenzo Colombo, and Michelangelo Rupolo. Anchored in the Roman music scene, they’re set to drop their debut album Nel Giardino a Vapore this month, following up on three standout singles: Nessuno Resterà, Lui è qui, and now Rovi.
Il Giardino a Vapore, NapstaMind’s debut full-length, is a kaleidoscope of 90s nostalgia, blending grunge, shoegaze, and the psychedelic influence of the 70s. The album’s compositions traverse a landscape that shifts between dreamy sweetness and gritty aggression, with occasional stoner-rock detours.
All three band members contribute to the lyrics, often addressing intimate relationships and speaking directly to a second person. The harmonies evoke Alice In Chains’ raw edge, while the distorted guitars nod toward garage rock and eerie surf tones with a bit of the Dandy Warhols’ cool swagger.
Napstamind spoke with Post-Punk.com about their latest single Rovi, as well as their inspirations, goals, and ideas for the future:
What inspired the creation of “Rovi”? Are there any personal experiences or stories behind the song?
“Rovi is a song inspired by a state of mind in which I find myself from time to time. I wanted to capture this dark feeling through images drawn from different sources: a poem I wrote, a dream I had, and things I have read. By the time the structure of the song started to come together, I already had the image I wanted to portray in mind.
What do you hope listeners take away from the album?
A valuable feature of many remarkable pieces of music is the ability to allow the listener to form their own interpretation of the song. Thoughts, visions, emotions, and memories are stimulated by melody, rhythm, transitions, and lyrics. In this way, we can think of music as a tool: its purpose is to give the listener the ability to understand their true self, their relationship with the surrounding world, and their place within society, ultimately inspiring a new, alternative, and better human condition.
This is the ambitious goal we hope to achieve with this album.
How does this project set the stage for your future work? Are there any new directions you’re excited to explore?
First of all, making this record represented a new direction for us, from the way we wrote the songs to the way we recorded them.
We tried to write songs in the simplest and most effective way possible, different from our previous EP, while still following our instincts.
Now, the challenge is to bring our music to as many people as possible on our USA tour — starting at the end of October — so that we can see the impact it has on people in a different country and understand how we can interact with them.
Of course, there’s a lot of excitement in the air.
Then, when we return to our home country, we will focus on taking the elements we used in this record and elevating them to a new level, depending on what we have learned over the past months.
Pre-order Nel Giardino a Vapore here.

04.10.2024 - Manoeuvres Against Melancholy — Dive into the Post-Punk and Shoegaze Reverie of Montreal’s DRØME with “Echoes Within”

Dance delivers a swift knockout to the fog of depression, offering an escape from emotional weight. In each movement, people unlock the feelings words fumble to express, finding freedom and release. The physicality fires up natural endorphins, kicking the gloom to the curb. And dance doesn’t stop there—it cuts through loneliness, igniting connection and focus. It pulls you into the present moment, far from negative spirals. Ultimately, dance merges strength, emotion, and social ties, providing a dynamic antidote for the soul’s aching.
Now DRØME, fronted by the formidable F. Dupouy and bolstered by bassist/keyboardist A. Tomeno, fires up those neurons and laces up those dancing shoes with the announcement of their new EP: Echoes Within on Velouria Recordz. The album is a blend of post-punk, noise rock, shoegaze, and industrial in the reminiscence of bands like A Place to Bury Strangers, Chapterhouse, The Soft Moon, Odonis Odonis, Trentemøller, and Soviet Soviet.
Suitcase of Memories kicks off the album with a hypnotic rhythm that pulls you into its kaleidoscopic swirl. The guitar work, sharp and slick, cuts through the haze like a knife, while the hushed vocals whisper unsettling truths. It’s a slow burn, wrapped in a fog of mystery and tension, that builds toward something just out of reach.
Depression Dance stirs a storm of sound, blending post-punk and shoegaze with a touch of dark electro. A stroll through a dreamscape, where reverberated guitars and delay-soaked melodies collide, crafting a bittersweet ballet of mood and memory. With Depression Dance, DRØME dives into a duality of despair and delight. The song spins tales from travels, merging haunting harmonies with hauntingly catchy tunes. Here, dance and movement become more than mere motions—they’re manoeuvres against melancholy, a rhythmic rebellion against the relentless grip of gloom.
June 23 slips into a deeper mood, with soft guitar strumming that wraps around you, while vocals float through like mist rolling in off the coast. It recalls the slow-burn elegance of Slowdive with a nod to the chill grooves of The Dandy Warhols and The xx. Then, In An Instant races forward, driven by a frenetic post-punk pulse, only to be split wide open by a surf guitar solo sharp enough to draw blood. The vocals swirl, eerie and hypnotic, while shoegaze fuzz thickens the air, creating a sensation that’s both haunting and enticing. Lost In The Haze rounds things off, taking the listener on an introspective, existential journey, with fuzz-laden guitar riffs that echo behind spoken word poetry, dragging you into the depths of its meditative atmosphere, bringing to mind Daniel Ash’s searing solos.
The Echoes Within EP is available on vinyl and digital via Velouria Records. Listen below and order the album here.

TRIBULATION haben Details zum Nachfolder ihres letzten Studioalbums “Where The Gloom Becomes Sound” bekannt gegeben: Die neue Platte heißt “Sub Rosa in Æternum” und erscheint am 1. November 2024 via Century Media Records.

04.10.2024 - Pittsburgh Post-Punk Outfit Nowhere Wolves Debut Live Video for Cover of Otis Redding’s “Respect”

Nowhere Wolves, a ferocious punk trio from Pittsburgh, was born out of the collapse of its members’ previous bands in 2024. Consisting of J. Trafford (Sommelier), Candrika Rice (Lylyth), and Everly Ward (Loose Rhetoric), their formation was a quick response to fulfill bookings left by Sommelier’s demise.
Inspired by punk icons like The Replacements, Buzzcocks, and Pinhead Gunpowder, their aggressive energy and raw spirit push forward while nodding to the past.
Nowhere Wolves took a sharp turn at their Poetry Lounge show with a cover of Otis Redding’s Respect, famously immortalized by Aretha Franklin. Director Paul Kotlinski captured Trafford’s swaggering performance, which adds a punk twist to the soulful classic, slicing through each line with an Elvis-esque croon.
Their fiery rendition pays homage to its Motown roots, channeling the raw energy of the 70s punk scene while staying true to the spirit. There’s an undeniable electricity in their performance, blending reverence with rebellion, revitalizing the song for a new generation of listeners. Redding would be proud.

04.10.2024 - MOUTH FOR WAR: neue Single „The Earth’s Cold Embrace“

Januar 2025.

04.10.2024 - ANOMALIE :: Neues Video „Awakening“

03.10.2024 - Berlin Experimental Duo AUA Deftly Blend Krautrock and Post-Punk in their Minimalist Video for “Allies”

Berlin’s experimental duo AUA returns with “Allies,” a track that deftly navigates the chaotic terrain of political alliances and the thirst for validation. As the third offering from their forthcoming album Painkiller No. 1, set for release on November 8th via Crazysane Records, “Allies” stands as a testament to AUA’s evolving sound—melding post-punk urgency with krautrock’s relentless rhythms.
“‘Allies’ is one of my favorite tracks on the new record,” shares AUA’s Fabian Bremer. “I’m impressed by how Henrik pulled off such a stunning video in no time—and on a tight budget of just 15 euros (the cost of three rain capes). The song explores how the desire to be right by gathering a following can lead to a loss of control. It’s a reflection on the complexities of power and influence, where seeking validation can result in unintended consequences. In the video, you’ll spot our live bass player, Steffen Smirny, but the original bass track was laid down by the incredible Sally Brown. Working with Sally was a fun experience, and we’re super grateful for her contribution! Huge thanks to the team at Schlachthof Wiesbaden for letting us film at the venue, and a special shoutout to Steffen and Dennis for making it happen!”
“Allies” unfurls as a succinct atmospheric piece, humming and buzzing with an experimental fervor. It evokes a parallel universe where John Lennon and Yoko Ono plunged into post-punk experimentation with Bowie’s during his Neu! influenced post-Berlin transformation in New York City—a genuine new-wave avant-garde anomaly. The percussion is nimble, the rhythm section taut, propelling the track with an insistent groove. Keys shimmer with a vintage allure, nodding to the idiosyncrasies of The Residents and the mechanical allure of Gary Numan, all while weaving in threads of prog-rock and krautrock ethos.
The accompanying visual is a study in minimalism. Cloaked in translucent raincoats, the band performs within the stark confines of a black studio, intermittently bathed in flashes of color. The song’s ominous title intermittently asserts itself on the screen’s periphery, enhancing the disquiet. The imagery is layered, mirrored, occasionally offering top-down perspectives—a timeless artistic statement that resonates with the track’s tense and surreal ambiance.
Watch the video for “ALLIES” below:
With Painkiller No. 1, AUA concludes a compelling trilogy that charts the evolution of their sonic landscape and artistic vision. Following the introspective depths of The Damaged Organ (2022) and the kinetic exuberance of their debut I Don’t Want It Darker (2020), this latest opus by multi-instrumentalists Fabian Bremer and Henrik Eichmann stands as a testament to their dynamic creativity and the resilient bond of their collaboration.
Crafted between the intimate spaces of their home studios and the seclusion of a remote cabin, Painkiller No. 1 emerges as an intricate mosaic of sonic diversity and sophisticated songwriting. It reflects the duo’s relentless pursuit of movement and transformation. Motorik beats and arpeggiated synths remain the backbone of their compositions, evident in tracks like “Disconnected Bliss” and the eponymous “Painkiller No. 1.” Yet, there’s an expanded sonic breadth here—the vocals take on a more prominent role, lending a human touch to the mechanized soundscape in songs like “Scenes of Quiet Life” and “White Sharks.”
Building upon their signature blend of ethereal vocals, crisp percussion, vintage synthesizers, and lo-fi guitar textures, AUA ventures into new territories. They draw inspiration from the psychedelic eruptions of Portishead and The Beatles, and the moody, intricate arrangements of Autolux and Broadcast. The result is an album that pushes the boundaries of their established aesthetic while maintaining the warbling grit that defines their sound. Each track is a meticulously crafted journey, revealing the duo’s maturation as both musicians and narrators of abstract sonic tales.
Following their collaboration with Annika Henderson on “Islands Song” in 2022, Painkiller No. 1 features contributions from esteemed artists. Sally Brown (Plattenbau, Anika) infuses “Allies” with her distinctive, gritty bass tones, perfectly complementing the song’s krautrock-inflected post-punk energy. Jobst M. Feit (Radare, Death By Gong) enhances the psychedelic pop allure of “Terminal” with a lush, grooving low-end. Longtime collaborator Dominik Fink delivers some of the album’s most memorable bass lines on tracks like “Walking Mystery,” “Glowing One Pt. 3,” and the expansive “No One Calls,” which closes the album with almost six minutes of weightless melancholy.
The partnership with mixing and mastering engineer Magnus Wichmann brings a newfound clarity to their production, balancing polish with the inherent grittiness of their sound. Visually, the collaboration between Fabian Bremer and Serbian artist Mihailo Kalabic continues, with Kalabic’s surreal digital sculptures providing a striking counterpart to the album’s nuanced themes.
Set for release on November 8th, 2024, via Berlin’s independent label Crazysane Records, Painkiller No. 1 will be available on LP, CD, and digital formats. To commemorate the trilogy’s completion, a limited 3×LP box set featuring all three of the band’s albums will accompany the release.
