The Crazy In A Coffin (On A Saturday Night) EP kicks off with L’apertura della bara, a spine-chilling intro narrated by October Noir’s frontman Tom Noir, channeling the eerie echoes of late-night horror flicks from the 1960s and ’70s. It’s a nod to that flickering TV glow, where shadows danced, and dread simmered just beneath the surface. The Amatory Murder then takes a sharp turn with their reinterpretation of David Bowie’s I’m Afraid Of Americans, twisting it into a mirror for these modern times, fraught with paranoia and unease. They inject a jagged edge into Bowie’s classic, lacing it with a contemporary anxiety that snarls at the state of things. The EP is a stark collision of nostalgia and present-day unrest, where the ghosts of past fears and today’s terrors meet under a blood-red sky, haunted by the thump of drums and the hiss of distant synths.

Die portugiesischen Schwarzwurzler von GAEREA habe ich erst 2022 wegen ihres Auftritts auf dem Party.San kennengelernt. Mittlerweile habe ich des Öfteren an mehreren Stellen ordentlich Hate gegen die Truppe gelesen. Kapuzen, klarer Sound, eben Kindergartenblackmetal in den Augen derjenigen, die teilweise wirklich unverschämt waren.
Der Auftritt hat mich vor 2 Jahren wirklich geflasht. Musik und Auftreten waren  top und ergreifend. Ok, ist halt Geschmacksache.
Aber hier geht es ja jetzt um meinen Geschmack.
Einen Monat nach dem Festival kam der Vorgänger von „Coma“ und auch die Scheibe mochte ich. Als ich die Promo jetzt im digitalen Briefkasten hatte, habe ich mich gefreut und war gespannt.
Vom Cover war ich direkt gepackt. Ein Auge, das nach oben gedreht einen leidenden Eindruck vermittelt,  inmitten einer Stadt, die Skyline auf dem Oberlid. Aus dem Unterlid, welches auf römischen (oder so) Stelzen steht, läuft haufenweise Sand und spült Bewohner der Stadt mit sich. Und das Album heißt „Coma“. Spricht mich auf jeden Fall an. Auch wenn es nicht zu Black Metal passt, Augenzwinker, hüstel!
Mit „The Poet´s Ballet“ gibt es gleich mit dem längsten Song der Scheibe einen wirkungsvollen Einstieg. Eine megaklare, mit Effekten belegte Gitarre, biete eine schöne Melodie dar und wird dabei von elektronischen Klängen unterstützt. Wenn dann die mehrstimmigen cleanen Vocals ruhig dazu brummen und trällern, fühle ich mich an Ulver vor einigen mehreren Jahren erinnert.
Es dauert über zweieinhalb Minuten, bis dann der Hammer herausgeholt wird und erst nach insgesamt viereinhalb Minuten fährt man den Druck für eine kurze Zeit wieder runter.
Man bekommt die typische Kost der Band, die mich in ihren Bann ziehen kann.
Der nächste Aufhorcher in einer Reihe von hochwertigen Songs ist an 5. Stelle der Titeltrack. Da werden mir bei dem Start-Stopp des Intros die Ohren freigepustet und die „Melodie-16tel“ der Gitarre sind wirklich geil.
Der Sound ist glasklar und vor allem druckvoll.
Das Schlagzeug könnte für meinen Geschmack einen kleinen Ticken leiser, da ich ja doch sehr gitarrenfixiert bin. Bass, Snare und Becken lassen die Saiten teilweise doch etwas schwach auf der Brust erscheinen, was sie eigentlich gar nicht sind.
Jeder Song für sich holt mich total ab, ich habe aber festgestellt, dass das Album mit seinen über 50 Minuten auf Dauer etwas gleich scheint und ich zum Schluss hin mit der Aufmerksamkeit zu kämpfen habe. „Wilted Flower“ bietet da, mit Passagen im Midtempo die hängenbleiben, eine gute Abwechslung. „Unknown“ ist ähnlich gelagert und hebt sich positiv mit Death Metal artigen Vibes im Einstieg ab, außerdem kann man mal richtig schön den Bass hören.
Wie gesagt, jeder Song für sich eine absolute Schelle. Im Verlauf des ganzen Albums wäre mir etwas Abwechslung schon sehr angenehm. Das zum Schluss bei „Kingdom Of Thorns“ mal so eine Abwechslung für kurze Zeit hereinschneit, reißt es dann leider nicht mehr heraus.

Bei der Band handelt es sich um ein Projekt der US-amerikanischen Sängerin und Komponistin Annamaria Pinna. An den Instrumenten wird die Musikerin von Gitarrist Dave Sussman (Ex-BILE), Drummer Jimmy DeMarco und Bassist John Heaney unterstützt.

In the biting world of fandom and fame-seeking, there’s a gnawing hunger, a sickness that festers under the glitter of marquee lights. It’s not just the stars who burn out; it’s the audience, too—feeding on the scraps of scandal, drunk on the misery of others. This circus of desperation twists every face into a mask, where the performer and the spectator are equally complicit. How far can this grotesque theatre of obsession go before the line blurs; before we see that the laughter at the clown’s misfortune was always a sneer at our own hollow lives? The darker the spectacle, the more ferocious the applause, the more ravenous the crowd. What does it say about us, this thirst for humiliation and glory, for broken idols and shattered dreams?

KAPUT’s debut single, High Wire, seethes from the seedy underbelly of Chicago’s no-wave/noise rock scene, hissing and snarling as it slashes through shadow-streaked alleys. A relentless rhythm punches forward, entangled with abrasive synths and a vocal delivery that’s more war cry than melody. High Wire plunges into the pitch-black pit of fandom and fame’s fevered obsession, poking at the twisted spectacle of it all. With this offering, KAPUT brings to mind This Heat, PIL, Kim Gordon, and Wire.

“I was thinking about a Kim Gordon quote when writing lyrics to this song,” says Garofalo. “People pay money to see others believe in themselves.’ and then I thought about the tightrope walkers who walk without nets because it’s more entertaining that way.”

The video, filmed by Matt Brown, takes this even further with its eerie Carrie-themed bloodbath. How far will this freak show of entertainment spiral before the crowd sees itself reflected in the wreckage? In an age where natural disasters double as doomscroll delights, KAPUT’s message hits like a gut-punch—a caustic critique dressed in a dystopian groove. High Wire dares to dance on the tightrope, balancing the thrill of the beat with the bite of brutal truth, questioning the depths of our collective craving for calamity under the guise of amusement.

In the end, it’s not entertainment that’s corrupt—it’s the crowd, forever searching for the next fall from grace.

Producer Brian Fox and Nadia Garofalo (Heavy Feelings, Ganser) found their chemistry in the shared pulse of experimental songwriting, synth stabs, and stark poetry. This partnership was sparked in early 2023, as they delved into the raw energy of creating something jagged and unrestrained.

Garofalo’s exit from Ganser in late 2022 opened the door for Fox to pitch his provocative ideas, seeking a co-conspirator in chaos. Their process has been defined by deliberate disorder, embracing a spirit of playful defiance. Together, they sculpted new material, pulling from the rubble of post-punk’s past and the clatter of their own creative instincts.

Die Metalcore-Band MAKE THEM SUFFER hat einen neuen Song veröffentlicht: “Mana God” bei YouTube.

Auch die Nummern “Oscillator” und “Epitaph” gibt es als Clips bei YouTube. Die vorherige Single erschien bereits im Mai 2023: “Ghost Of Me” steht als Musikvideo bei YouTube bereit. Alle Stücke sind vom kommenden selbstbetitelten Album “Make Them Suffer”, das am 8. November 2024 via SharpTone Records erscheinen wird.

Im Oktober 2022 präsentierten MAKE THEM SUFFER mit “Doomswitch” den ersten Song mit der neuen Sängerin Alex Reade (ex-DROWN THIS CITY) – das Musikvideo gibt es bei YouTube. Reade füllt seitdem den zuvor vakanten Posten am Keyboard aus. Anfang des Jahres hatten sich die Australier von Booka Nile getrennt – als Grund standen Anschuldigungen bezüglich sexuellen Fehlverhaltens im Raum.

Die Punk Rock-Band KAPTAIN KAIZEN hat nach dem Video-Clip zu “Pflugschreiber” und dem Video-Clip zu “Panini” mit “Hängepeters” nun auch den Opener ihres neuen Albums “Für 3 Minuten 11” als Video-Clip veröffentlicht. Die Death Metal-Band MASSACRE hat mit “Necrolution” ein neues Album angekündigt.Mit einem Video zu “Death May Die” haben MASSACRE nun die zweite Single daraus veröffentlicht.

“Necrolution” wird am 8. November 2024 via Agonia Records erscheinen. Vorab gibt es außerdem zu “The Colour Out Of Space” ein Lyric-Video.

Es ist das fünfte Album der Band, deren Ursprünge in die 80er-Jahre zurückreichen: damals schon mit von der Partie waren Sänger Kam Lee (BONE GNAWER, Ex-THE GROTESQUERY) und Bassist Michael Borders (PAINWARD, Ex-RAVAGED BY THE YETI). Der Rest der aus den USA stammenden Band wurde mit ebenfalls routinierten Schweden aufgefüllt, wie etwa die Gitarristen Jonny Pettersson (WOMBBATH, HEADS FOR THE DEAD) und ROGGA JOHANSSON (PAGANIZER).

Nicht lange fackeln, sondern machen: ANOMIC verstehen die Spielregeln des Thrash Metal ausgezeichnet. Das äußert sich nicht nur in der klugen Entscheidung des Duos, für die Schlagzeugspuren einen fähigen Mann wie Session-Drummer Krzystof Klingbein zu engagieren, sondern vor allem im zielgerichteten Songwriting.

Messerscharf und roh prescht der Titeltrack nach vorne, fügt dem Oldschool-Thrash-Fundament eine gesunde Note Death Metal hinzu, die sich mal in den Gitarren, mal in einigen donnernden Growls bemerkbar macht. Dennoch verliert Gitarrist Raafat Atasi die Melodieführung nicht aus den Augen, streut das eine oder andere Solo ein oder lässt sein Instrument geradezu gespenstisch aufheulen.

ANOMIC verstehen die Spielregeln des Thrash Metals: Den Elan verliert das Duo auf “Opacity” zu keinem Zeitpunkt
Den Elan verlieren ANOMIC jedenfalls über drei Songs und eine gute Viertelstunde Laufzeit nie. Vielmehr ist das Gegenteil der Fall, wenn uns die rohen Screams aufrütteln und die für eine Eigenproduktion beeindruckend mächtige Soundwand gegen die Wand drückt. Rasend und furios zieht „On Deaf Ears“ in der Folge eine Schneise der Verwüstung nach sich, ohne den Blick für das Gesamte zu verlieren: Ermüdungserscheinungen beugt die Gruppe durch gezielte Geschwindigkeitsverlagerung vor, wodurch das mächtige Organ von Gastsänger Stefan Nordström (DESOLATOR) quasi idealen Nährboden vorfindet.

Unheilvoll und mit zermalmendem Charakter schleppt sich das Stück auf diese Weise bis zur nächsten Thrash-Eruption, die abermals das zementiert, was wir schon nach rund 30 Sekunden sicher wussten: Sobald ANOMIC ein Ziel ins Auge gefasst haben, bringt das Duo nichts mehr vom direkten Weg dorthin ab – selbst wenn es notfalls mit dem Kopf durch die Wand muss.

Die Modern Metalcore-Band ICE NINE KILLS hat einen neuen Song samt Musikvideo veröffentlicht: “A Work Of Art” gibt es auf allen gängigen Streaming-Portalen zu hören und als Musikvideo bei YouTube zu sehen. Das Stück fungiert als offizieller Titelsong des Horrorfilms “Terrifier 3”, der am 31. Oktober 2024 in die deutschen Kinos kommt. Für den Clip konnte zudem Hauptdarsteller David Howard Thornton gewonnen werden, welcher seine Rolle als Art the Clown verkörpert. Ein Gastauftrritt kommt zudem von SYSTEM OF A DOWN-Bassist Shavo Odadjian.

Einen Track für Terrifier 3 zu schreiben, ist, als würde man den ultimativen Horror-Spielplatz betreten. Der Film und unsere neue Single „A Work of Art“ spiegeln dieselbe verdrehte, unerbittliche Energie wider, von der sowohl die Fans von Ice Nine Kills als auch die der Terrifier-Reihe begeistert sind. Und dass unser Musikvideo gestern Abend nach dem Film bei speziellen Vorführungen in den Kinos lief, war die ultimative Ehre und die beste Art, dem filmischen Terror zu huldigen, der mich und die Band inspiriert hat. Mit “Utopia” wird am 22. November 2024 via No Remorse Records das neue Album der Heavy / Power Metal-Band SILENT WINTER erscheinen. Es ist nach “The Circles of Hell” (2019) und “Empire of Sins” (2021) das dritte Album der Griechen.

Gemixt und gemastert wurde das Album von Steve Lado (SACRED OUTCRY), während das Cover-Artwork aus der Feder von Gitarrist Akis Balanos stammt. Vorab gibt es einen Video-Clip zu “Hellstorm“.

Los Angeles duo Occults lets loose their latest offering: Rituals, a fervent firestorm of goth, darkwave, and alt-rock anthems that pulse and pound with echoes of their post-punk progenitors.

Two decades deep into their musical journey, Emilio Hernandez and Patrick Lawrence broke from their dance-pop days with Nothing Still to forge something fierce and fresh. Occults was born from their desire to rediscover the records that once lit up late-night college radio and packed the bins of dusty, back-alley record shops. In these sonic explorations, they found a revival of what they’d long loved—the tangled thrill of guitars, the thunderous pulse of percussion, and the unapologetic ache of melancholy melodies that linger like smoke in the twilight air.

This collection of wistful post-punk tracks echoes with the melancholy of The Cure and the shadowed elegance of The Church. Love and loss entwine beneath moonlit skies, where whispered temptations and dark rituals pulse with longing. Devotion mingles with despair as shattered promises and haunted memories drift like tides of regret. Each song is a clash of sin and salvation, a dance between hope and heartbreak, with fragile unions crumbling under the weight of unspoken words. The album’s raw yearning burns like a smoldering ember, leaving an ache of obsession that lingers long after the music fades.

With its sighing vocals and icy darkwave guitars, the opening track Acts of Attrition aches with a relentless yearning, a raw and restless plea clawing its way through darkness and doubt. This soul, torn and tattered, sways between devotion and self-destruction, wrestling with its own unspoken desire. The verses coil and twist like a thorned vine, binding passion to pain, each line laced with the contradictions of a love that craves validation but stings with rejection.

In Hot Crucible, the vocals glide and soar with brooding romance, with cold charges of guitars sending shivers that burn with a brazen allure, The song is a wicked waltz with shadows, flirting shamelessly with sin. Temptation tangles with mysticism, as shadowed desires beckon the soul to succumb, indulging in the dangerous dance of pride, envy, and greed.

Communion unfolds as a melancholic guitar melody, adorned with sighing synths and underscored by the band’s brooding vocals and pulsating basslines. Its somber essence blankets the listener like a sorrowful fog stretching over the sea, laden with heartache. Within this musical narrative, two souls entwined by desperation engage in a poignant exchange, a sacrifice that simultaneously sears and heals. Amidst the shadows, a delicate plea emerges, urging a lover to pursue fleeting dreams and embrace solace in seemingly desolate places. Here, heaven sheds its saintly facade, revealing a fragile bond teetering on the precipice of hope.

Baptism imbues the atmosphere with heightened energy, characterized by crashing drums, enthralling vocal harmonies, and captivating guitar melodies. It weaves a poignant tale of redemption, where truth and deceit intertwine beneath a shattered altar. Anguish lingers in the sacred air as a wounded heart grapples with the unrelenting grip of guilt. The bride, stained yet sanctified, embodies a paradox—her purity marred by pain. As the choir’s song blazes through the soul, the penitent pleads for absolution, each word akin to a flame licking at a sinner’s skin. Heaven’s touch smolders, with regret seeping from every wasted moment.

Beneath the haunting glow of the blood-red moonlight, the standout track “Strawberry Moon” captivates with its romantically charged, jangly post-punk guitar melody that trembles with the pulse of doomed desire. It paints a vivid picture of love and sacrifice clashing under a crimson-stained sky. The lyrics echo a plea for possession and the sweet sting of surrender in the darkness. Amid this surreal setting, all fades to a whisper, leaving only two souls locked in time’s embrace, side by side.

Deconstruction’s forlorn chords echo with echoes of The Cure, while Truth or Desires slips into shadows, stumbling through despair, aching for an end that forever retreats. Crystal Coffins sharpens its Sisters of Mercy basslines, sketching a love both hollow and haunting, where eyes burn with devotion, and porcelain skin gleams like some fragile idol. Sage and smoke twine in bittersweet breaths, smoldering with dark desires. The song, Depeche Mode, with its ghostly refrains, directly drawing inspiration from the band’s heroes and predecessors, fuse the synth-driven essence of seminal albums like Black Celebration and Violater into a tantalizing, time-bending anthem, where erstwhile warm promises unfurl into icy regret. And although it bears the name of a legendary band, it’s a song that belongs unmistakably to the cannon of Occults.

The album concludes with the haunting piano-driven dirge, “Dead Roses.” Its chilling guitars and synths fall softly like rain, while the vocals drift like a tide of sorrow, conveying doubt and loveless ache. They crash into nothingness like the ocean’s relentless surge. When the roses wither, only blood and thorns endure—a bittersweet victory. The memory lingers like a ghostly fragrance, forever etched in the mind.

Die Death / Thrash Metal-Band BALASHTOTH hat nach dem Video zum Opener “Loneliness + Alienation” und dem Video zu “n = Folly” mit “Shame x Failure” einen weiteren Video-Clip ihrer neuen EP “= Equation =” veröffentlicht. Es ist nach “Anti​-​Life” (2023) die zweite EP des in Irland lebenden Ungarn Balázs Tóth (Ex-CASKETGARDEN), der sich bei den Vocals von Deathmetalvoicer unterstützen ließ.

Das Konzept hinter “=Equation=” ist inspiriert von der “Anti-Life-Equation”, einem Konzept, das von DC Comics eingeführt wurde und eine Formel symbolisiert, die einem den freien Willen rauben kann. Jeder Track auf der EP spiegelt eine andere Facette dieses Konzepts wider und erforscht Themen, die mit zeitgenössischen politischen Kämpfen in Verbindung stehen.

“= Equation =” ist am 26. September 2024 erschienen.

Die Hamburger Metal-Veteranen PARAGON haben ihr neues Album angekündigt. “Metalation” erscheint am 8. November 2024 über Massacre Records. Mit “Battalions” stellen PARAGON nun einen weiteren Song der kommenden Platte vor.

Ein Video zur ersten Single “Fighting The Fire” wurde schon im September veröffentlicht. „Ein typischer und schneller Paragon-Opener, nur dass wir den Refrain mit einer schönen eingängigen Melodie aufgepeppt haben, um Buschis Gesangslinie zu unterstützen,“ sagt Bassist Jan Bünning.

Erster Song vom neuen PARAGON Album “Metalation” online
Die Realisierung von “Metalation” war nicht sicher, da sich die Band in der Zeit zwischen der Veröffentlichung des Vorgängeralbums “Controlled Demolition” und dem heutigen Tag fast aufgelöst hätte. Jan Bünning und Gitarrist Martin Christian begannen im Winter 2019 mit der Arbeit an neuen Songideen, die Corona-Pandemie brachte einen Großteil der Bandaktivitäten zum Erliegen. Dennoch schrieben beide weiter an neuen Songs. Während “Controlled Demolition” ein sehr hartes und schnelles Album war, entschieden PARAGON, dass es keinen Sinn machen würde, dieses Muster noch einmal zu wiederholen und entschieden stattdessen für das neue Album, dass es ein wenig melodischer und vielseitiger klingen sollte, genau wie in ihren guten, alten Zeiten. Produziert wurde “Metalation” gemeinsam mit Piet Sielck, welcher ebenfalls für den Mix und das Mastering verantwortlich war.

Gitarrist Günny verließ die Band im Spätsommer 2022, ebenso wie sein Nachfolger und Drummer Sören. Die verbliebenen Bandmitglieder spielten mit dem Gedanken, ein letztes Album zu veröffentlichen und einige Abschiedsshows – mit Martin an der Gitarre und seinem Sohn Jason Wöbcke am Schlagzeug – zu spielen, und PARAGON dann aufzulösen. Jason stieg dauerhaft am Schlagzeug ein und Martin entschied sich, ebenfalls zu bleiben. Die Chemie zwischen allen Bandmitgliedern ist besser denn je, und so ist es nicht überraschend, dass alle mit dem neuen Album mehr als zufrieden sind. PARAGON können es kaum erwarten, dass alle das neue Album hören, und sie freuen sich schon darauf, wieder auf der Bühne zu stehen. Wie auf dem HEADBANGERS OPEN AIR 2025, dort werden PARAGON ein Oldschool-Set spielen.

Die Post-Doom Metal-Band HOPE IS A LIE hat mit “Dance” eine erste Single ihres kommenden und selbstbetitelten Albums veröffentlicht. Der Song erzählt eine Geschichte über Verlust und Sehnsucht, und über die letzte Chance, die einst verlorene Verbindung wiederzufinden.

“Hope is a Lie” ist das erste Album der Finnen und wird am 13. Dezember 2024 via Inverse Records erscheinen. Gemixt wurde das Album von Markus Alavire, während das Mastering in den Händen von Owe Inborr lag. Das Cover-Artwork stammt von Drummer Tuomo Heiti.

James LaBrie, John Petrucci, John Myung,  Jordan Rudess und Mike Portnoy  – so liest sich die aktuelle Besetzung von DREAM THEATER. Das Quintett hat nun ein neues Album angekündigt: “Parasomnia” erscheint am 7. Februar 2025 und ist das erste Album in dieser Besetzung seit dem Album “Black Clouds & Silver Linings” aus dem Jahr 2009.

Zur ersten Single „Night Terror“ gibt es ab sofort ein Musikvideo. 

Das Album wurde von Petrucci produziert, von James ‘Jimmy T’ Meslin aufgenommen und von Andy Sneap abgemischt. Hugh Syme entwarf das Artwork.

Die Progressive Metal-Band hat für Oktober und November 2024 einige Konzerte in Deutschland angekündigt. Auftreten werden die US-Amerikaner im Rahmen ihres 40-jährigen Jubiläums dabei in Berlin, Köln, München, Stuttgart sowie Frankfurt. Tickets gibt es u.a. über die offizielle Bandhomepage.

Die Modern Metal / Metalcore-Band THECITYISOURS präsentiert ihre neue Single “Freak Like You” als Clip bei YouTube. Der Track stammt wie “Psycho” vom kommenden Album “Will You Still Love Me”, das die Formation bereits mit einem weiteren Preview-Stück vorgestellt hat: “In The Dark” in Bild und Ton bei YouTube. Auch zu “Shame” gibt es einen Videoclip bei YouTube.

“Will You Still Love Me?” erscheint am 31. Januar 2025 via Arising Empire auf CD, Vinyl sowie digital. Ende 2024 und Anfang 2025 gehen THECITYISOURS im Vorprogramm von SELF DECEPTION auf Tour (Termine s. unten).

Zuvor teilte die Gruppe im Oktober 2022 den Standalone-Track “Alive” als Musikvideo bei YouTube. Die Band hat über den Song Folgendes zu sagen:

In ‘Alive’ geht es darum, die Dämonen, die wir in unserem Leben erlebt haben, anzuerkennen und aktiv unsere Denkweise zu ändern, um sie in die Vergangenheit zu verbannen und mit einer neuen Lebenseinstellung vorwärts zu gehen. Als Band haben wir in den letzten Jahren so viele Veränderungen erlebt, dass es manchmal schwierig war, sich auf den vor uns liegenden Weg zu konzentrieren.

Wir haben viel darüber gesprochen, warum wir uns überhaupt in die Musik verliebt haben, und haben über Platten gesprochen, die uns etwas fühlen ließen – von harten Metal-Platten bis hin zu Pop-Klassikern aus den 90ern und allem, was dazwischen liegt. Wir stellten uns der Herausforderung, Elemente von so vielen dieser Platten wie möglich in einem Song zu kombinieren, um uns von den Schranken unserer Vergangenheit zu befreien und die neue Ära von THECITYISOURS voll und ganz zu genießen. EREB ALTOR haben erste Details zum kommenden Album bekannt gegeben: Die neue Platte trägt den Titel “Hälsingemörker” und wird am 7. Februar 2025 via Hammerheart Records veröffentlicht. Der Nachfolger des 2022er Albums “Vargtimman” erscheint als CD, LP, Box und Digitalrelease.

Das Artwork von “Hälsingemörker” kommt von  Tomarúm av Christine Linde.

Mit “The Lake Of Blood”, einem Video zu “Skogsrået” und “Midvinter” hatten die Schweden in den vergangenen Monaten drei Singles veröffentlicht – die Songs entstanden bei den Aufnahmen von “Hälsingemörker”, sind aber nicht Teil des Albums.

Pennsylvania dark electronic act, The Russian White, brews a potent blend of post-punk, synthwave, and witch house, channeling the eerie pulse of ’80s stalker thrillers. Signed to Distortion Productions, their “deathwave” soundscape ripples with haunting beats, shimmering effects, and lush vocals. They conjure moods of obsession and beauty, drawing listeners into tales of the unknown. Imagine a kinship with bands like Health, Crosses, and Nine Inch Nails—music that unearths the beautiful yet unsettling shadows lurking beneath the surface, all framed by a hypnotic electronic pulse.

The Russian White plunges deeper into the darkness with Milieu, the third piece of their haunting video trilogy, which begins with Funeral Art and We Disappear. The descent sharpens, shadowed by desperation, as the central figure spirals further into madness, lost in the churning void of his own doubts and desires. This chapter claws at the edges of sanity, grasping for a fleeting sense of belief amid chaos.

Tim Heireth, known for his work with Joy Machine, Brand New Idol, and The Lonely Death, built a stark and desolate atmosphere through a chilling rhythm section. Michael Colon intensified this mood by layering in icy synths, which amplified the sense of isolation that permeated the track. Their combined effort created an audio landscape that felt hauntingly detached, yet powerfully immersive.

“The concept for this song started during the pandemic when the world was in a state of chaos,” says the artist. “During those sessions, I was watching a lot of documentaries about cults. I’d also recently rewatched 28 Days Later. Myself exploring those feelings of isolation and trying to find meaningful human connection.”

Directed by Texas horror maestro Jeremy Sumrall, the video for Milieu unravels within the dilapidated bones of an abandoned paper mill. Lead actor Bryan Enright (of Hideout, Camera X, and Mare of Easttown fame) plunged headfirst into the role, erasing the boundary between performance and descent. Chasing life’s fleeting meaning, he finds himself in the grip of a cult, assuming the throne like a mad monarch lost in a fractured fable. The unsettling transformation echoes through the scene, turning each moment into a raw study of obsession and collapse.

The Russian White’s latest release, Funeral Art, arrives with a fiery intensity under the banner of Distortion Productions. Tim Heireth of Silver Walks brings a blistering mix. The album’s final touch is lent by Eric Broyhill, whose mastering finesse (known from work with Deftones and Crosses) adds a crisp, cutting-edge polish to the tracks.

“I feel like this is our most pure album, where Mike and I didn’t have to make any compromises,” says vocalist Tom Rhymer. “We have a good mix of club bangers and cinematic and emotional tracks here.”

Funeral Art is out now via Distortion Productions through all digital and streaming platforms along with a vinyl and CD edition.

Das vierte Album der Franzosen führt uns erneut zurück in die glorreichen 80er und zur Melange aus Synthpop, Wave und Post Punk. SOROR DOLOROSA verkörpern diese sanften Facetten eines genialen Jahrzehnts und lassen diese besondere Melancholie wieder aufleben. Dabei gelingt es der Formation, eine ätherische Kühle in die Songs zu integrieren, welche jedes Cold Wave-Werk zum Glanze verhelfen könnte.

Der Opener „Tear it up“ ist ein tanzbarer Synth Wave Track, voller kleiner Anekdoten und einem explosiven Refrain. Irgendwo zwischen OMD, Alphaville und verwegenem Post Punk hält sich dieses betörende Kleinod.

Das folgende, sphärische Klangungetüm „You’re giving me“ begeistert durch seine innere Geschlossenheit, die sich gefühlvoll der dunklen Seite des Synthpops stellt. Die verführerischen Instrumentalparts erinnern an frühe Maxis und hat dann diesen ganz speziellen Fokus auf einen durchdringenden und treibenden Refrain, der sich langsam aber sicher als Ohrwurm manifestiert. „Red Love“ ist etwas schräger inszeniert, besitzt diesen curesken Charme früherer VÖs und lässt sich nicht recht greifen. „Souls Collide“ ist sehr emotional. Es bewegt sich sanft und behutsam, mit kürzeren und breiteren Anschlägen der Keyboards, sowie schweren und kraftvollen Anschlägen der Gitarren. Mittendrin lässt Andy Julia seine Stimmbänder voller Inbrunst der Fragilität trotzen. Ein schöner Song, der sich erst langsam entfaltet und ganz behutsam Facetten von Depeche Mode zur „People are People“-Zeit integriert. „Sugar moon“ ist ein, nach mystisch-nebulöses Intro, langsamer Song, der eher in erzählerischer Manier begleitet wird. Eine dunkle Atmosphäre ist diesem ruhigen Stück, welcher von klaren Bassläufen durchtrieben ist, immanent. Der Gesang ist klagend und teilweise zurückhaltend und jederzeit passend. Zwischendrin herrscht puristisches Drama. „Obsidian Museum“ donnert mit schweren Bässen und sauberen Gitarren nach vorne. Die Keyboards treten in diesem eher geradlinigen Rocker etwas in den Hintergrund. Das Schlussepos „but today“ spielt mit verschiedenen Facetten. So trifft die Romantik auf krachige Neubauten und zwischendrin schreit sich Adrian Gold das feine Goldkehlchen aus dem Hals, während nebenan Mortan Harket aus dem Studio schleicht.

Fazit: Ein Werk, welches die 80er heroisch in sich beherbergt. Man schleicht förmlich zum Breakfast Club, während Ferris blau macht und Watts das Schlagzeug liebt. Irgendwo bricht das Glas…. ich bin zu Hause. Die Melodien glänzen in Neonfarben, aber unter der schimmernden Oberfläche verbirgt sich ein tiefes Gefühl der Melancholie.

Die Thrash Metal-Band NASTY SAVAGE meldet sich mit einem neuen Album zurück: “Jeopardy Room” erscheint  20 Jahre nach dem bislang letzten Album der US-Amerikaner aus Florida, die vor allem Mitte er 80er-Jahre ihre aktivste Phase gehabt haben.

Für die Neuaufnahme des Demosongs “Witches Sabbath” haben sich NASTY SAVAGE Verstärkung bei OBITUARY geholt, anhören kann man die neue Version von “Witches Sabbath” bei YouTube.

Die Gebrüder Tardy haben eine ganz besondere Beziehung zu NASTY SAVAGE:

„Jeder weiß, dass  OBITUARY von Bands aus Tampa inspiriert wurden, dazu gehören natürlich auch NASTY SAVAGE. Nicht unbedingt wegen ihrer Musik, eher aufgrund ihrer kompromisslosen Haltung mit überdrehten Live-Shows. Sie waren auch unser Vorbild, als wir im legendären Morrisound Studio aufgenommen haben. Wir hatten das große Glück, als Jungspunde mit Ronnie Galletti über die lokale Musikszene sprechen und in seine Fußstapfen treten zu können, um unsere Band zu „promoten“. Wir haben so früh erfahren, was man von der Musikindustrie erwarten kann. Bis heute sind wir eng befreundet und die Möglichkeit, ihren Klassiker  „Witches Sabbath“ mit ihnen neu aufzunehmen, ist ein wahr gewordener Traum. Wir hatten einen Riesenspaß mit der Band bei den Aufnahmen, und dass Jim Morris den Song abgemischt hat, ist die Kirsche auf der Sahne.“

Mit einem Video zu “Schizoid Platform” präsentierten NASTY SAVAGE schon vor einigen Wochen einen der neuen Songs.

“Jeopardy Room” wurde von Jim Morris im Morrisound Recording Studio in Tampa produziert und erscheint am 10. Oktober 2024 via FHM Records.

Mit dem Video-Clip zu “Rock You” hat die Heavy Metal-Band SALEM UK eine erste Single ihres kommenden Albums “Outer Limits” veröffentlicht. Es ist das zweite Album der Briten unter diesem Namen. Als SALEM veröffentlichte die Band in den 80er-Jahren bereits eine Handvoll Demos und zwischen 2013 und 2018 drei Alben. Ein Release-Termin steht noch aus.

“Outer Limits” ist von der Hull Fair inspiriert, einer historischen Veranstaltung in der Heimatstadt der Band, die auf das Jahr 1279 zurückgeht und die größte reisende Kirmes in Europa ist. Jeder Track greift das Thema des Jahrmarkts auf, viele sind nach Fahrgeschäften des Jahrmarkts benannt und weben den Geist der Veranstaltung in das Album ein.

Haltung zu zeigen ist für WITHIN TEMPTATION unabdingbarer Teil ihrer DNA. Wie sehr die Band für ihre Sichtweisen einsteht, zeigt bereits die Churchill-Rede zu Beginn des Openers „Our Solemn Hour“. Sonorer wie kraftvoller Klargesang trägt die Botschaft anschließend in die Nacht hinaus, während symphonische Spitzen dem Stück die passende Dramatik verleihen. Bald darauf wird Sängerin Sharon den Adel mit „Raise Your Banner“ die Aufmerksamkeit auf den russischen Angriffskrieg gegen die Ukraine richten – schweigen können und wollen die Niederländer nicht, solange das Paradies auf Erden reines Wunschdenken bleiben muss.

Dass den Adel auf der Suche nach selbigem auf die Unterstützung des Amsterdamer Publikums zählen kann, versteht sich von selbst. Leider aber ertrinkt dessen Stimmgewalt in „Paradise (What About Us?)“ im begleitenden Backing Track. Es ist zugleich der größte und wohl auch einzige nennenswerte Kritikpunkt an „Worlds Collide Tour (Live In Amsterdam)“. Der Ende November 2022 im Ziggo Dome aufgezeichnete Mitschnitt ist transparent wie warm abgemischt, könnte der Zuschauerschaft im Verlaufe der 70 Minuten allerdings ein klein wenig mehr Präsenz einräumen, um das Konzertfeeling stärker in den Vordergrund zu rücken.

WITHIN TEMPTATION präsentieren ein routiniert und makellos dargebotenes Set
Gleiches gilt für die die Instrumentalspuren selbst, die vor dem dominanten Klargesang zwar nicht kapitulieren, doch ein wenig Pomp und Durchschlagskraft einbüßen. Dafür ist Sharon den Adels Darbietung einmal mehr nahezu makellos: Mit Gefühl, mit Power, mit Verve führt sie durch eine vielseitig zusammengestellte Setlist, die mit Ausnahme des Debüts „Enter“ (1997) jede Etappe der Bandgeschichte in etwa gleichen Teilen berücksichtigt.

Klassiker wie „Mother Earth“ und „Ice Queen“ bilden das Finale, auf das uns aktuelleres Material à la „Supernova“ oder “Don’t Pray For Me“ zielstrebig vorbereitet haben. Dass EVANESCENCE-Sängerin Amy Lee darüber hinaus für „The Reckoning“ ebenfalls zum Mikro greifen darf, ist ein nettes Ausrufezeichen eines routiniert und makellos dargebotenen Sets. Das erhebt „Worlds Collide Tour (Live In Amsterdam)“ im Umkehrschluss keineswegs zum unabdingbaren Pflichtprogramm, den Erwartungen genügen kann das hochwertige Live-Dokument nichtsdestotrotz. Denn auch das ist Teil der WITHIN TEMPTATION-DNA: Als einer der größten Symphonic- / Alternative-Metal-Acts des Planeten zeigt man nicht nur politisch Haltung, sondern gibt sich gleichwohl auch künstlerisch keineswegs mit halben Sachen zufrieden.

Mit “Praise the Communion Fire for the Unhallowed Sacrament” wird am 25. Oktober 2024 via Dying Victims Productions das neue Album der Blackened Thrash / Heavy Metal-Band BLACKEVIL erscheinen. Es ist nach “The Ceremonial Fire” (2017) und “Forever Baptised in Eternal Fire” (2020) das dritte Album der Deutschen aus Bayern.

“Praise the Communion Fire for the Unhallowed Sacrament” wurde mit einem Cover-Artwork von Paolo Girardi ausgestattet. Vorab gibt es nach den Videos zu “Divine Forces” und “Beneath this Pentagram” mit “Praise the Fire for the Sacrament” nun einen dritten Vorab-Song zu hören.

Mit einem Video zu “Herne’s Oak” stellt STEVE VON TILL einen neuen Song seines HARVESTMAN-Projektes vor. Der Song stammt vom kommenden Album “Triptych: Part Three”. Es erscheint am 17. Oktober 2024 und schließt die Trilogie ab.

Die drei Alben wurden an drei Vollmonden des Jahres 2024 veröffentlicht:  Den Auftakt machte “Triptych: Part One” zum Pink Moon am 23. April, “Triptych: Part Two” erschien zum “Buck Moon” am 21. Juli, der dritte Teil wird zum “Hunter Moon” am 17. Oktober 2024 veröffentlicht.

Die komplette Trilogie entstand im The Crow’s Nest in Nord-Idaho, wurde von Steve von Till aufgenommen und abgemischt und von James Plotkin gemastert. Die Artworks kommen von Henry Hablak. Auf dem dritten Teil sind als Gäste mit dabei: Gäste Kevin Martin (THE BUG), Douglas Leal (DEAFKIDS), Wayne Adams (PETBRICK), Dave French (YOB) und der Produzent/Musiker Sanford Parker.
