Die Melodic Death Metal-Band CAINITES hat mit “Revenant” ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist der erste Release des neuformierten Duos, welches aus Andrea “Frater Orion” Falaschi (DEATHLESS LEGACY, MOTUS TENEBRAE), der auch das Cover-Artwork gestaltet hat, und Daniele Ciranna (MOTUS TENEBRAE) besteht.

„Revenant“ ist ein Konzeptalbum über einen alten orthodoxen Priester, der gegen seinen Willen zu einem Vampir wurde. Ein kontroverser, grausamer und doch faszinierender Charakter, der zwischen einem Gefühl der Verlassenheit durch das Göttliche und der Manifestation eines immer noch vorhandenen Glaubens schwankt, mit ständigen Bitten an Gott, ihn von seinem unerbittlichen Blutvergießen abzuhalten – Sehnsucht nach einer Erlösung, die nicht erreicht werden kann.

“Revenant” wird am 21. Juni 2024 via Scarlet Records erscheinen. Vorab gibt es einen Video-Clip vom Opener “Darkness Awaits“.

Kiss Is Kill – Anatomy Of Fear!

Industrial rock band, KISS IS KILL recently unveiled their new full-length album, Anatomy Of Fear. 

Anatomy Of Fear presents a highly introspective view by the artist looking back during the time of the Covid-19 pandemic. The last few years have been difficult for us all: a global pandemic, lockdowns, riots and political unrest. We’ve all lost so much. For many, it was a time of great fear: fear of getting sick, fear of failing relationships and a fear of the world our children might grow up in; also fear of the growing hatred and division. The album is about the unknown and the unknown breeds fear.

Says KISS IS KILL founder, James Chapple, “This album was a chance for me to analyze all my fears, reflect on them, and try to grow beyond them. The songs are, as usual for me, deeply personal. Reflections of love, death, loss and grief populate this collection of my anxieties made into song.  All of my fears charted so that I might understand and master them. This is my anatomy of fear.”

DOMINUM sind eine Power Metal-Band um den Sänger, Produzent und Songwriter Felix Heldt, der unter anderem für FEUERSCHWANZ und VISIONS OF ATLANTIS gearbeitet hat. Many had hoped that lightning would strike twice at last year’s Cruel World Festival and manifest a collaboration between Iggy Pop and Siouxsie Sioux, who were both on last year’s bill. Still, better late than never: the two icons have joined forces for a scrumptious reimagining of Pop’s iconic 1977 hit, The Passenger.

Arranged by award-winning composer Sarah deCourcy, this otherworldly remix adds a fresh layer of allure to the timeless classic. It’s all part of an audacious campaign for Magnum ice cream’s latest indulgence—Pleasure Express, featuring three new tempting flavors: Euphoria, Wonder, and Chill. (Alas, no Iggy Popsicle in sight!)

The Passenger, penned by Pop alongside guitarist Ricky Gardiner, first made waves on Pop’s album Lust for Life. With production credits shared by David Bowie, Colin Thurston, and Pop under the moniker The Belway Bros., the album was birthed in the creative cauldron of Berlin’s Hansa Studios following Pop’s tour with Bowie for The Idiot.

This tune soared to even greater heights when Siouxsie and the Banshees offered their own rendition on their all-covers album Through the Looking Glass a decade later. Now, with deCourcy’s deft touch, The Passenger rides again, tastier and cooler than ever.

“Siouxsie can sing like a bird. I’ve always thought she was a great lady.” Iggy Pop says. “Her version of the song was already special, but what happened here, singing together, is really unique. Like Volare, the orchestral treatment and marriage of voices flies free, in a spirit of joy.”

“I love this song, and I’ve always loved Iggy’s voice.” added the ice cream “ice-queen,” Sioux. “I adore how instinctive and spontaneous it all feels and to hear my voice with Iggy’s is such a dream.”

The Passenger (Magnum Ice Cream Version) is Sioux’s first new recording in nine years.

“Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, is this the makings of heaven, a moment of trust?”
The end of an intense physical relationship often delivers a sharp pang of loss—a visceral hollowing that echoes throughout one’s existence. This emotional void is akin to a sudden silence in the midst of a symphony. Yet, there’s a paradoxical sanctity in such intimacy: each touch and tender word, once shared, is consecrated as memory. This not only marks the peak of human connection but also its inevitable dissolution, lending the pain of parting a bittersweet reverence. Though the departure may resonate with loss, the shared moments ensure that it remains significant, always hallowed.

With that, Irish post-punk quartet Scattered Ashes (now based in London) turns its gaze to the profundity of breakups in their latest work. Fresh off a year touring alongside goth icons like She Past Away, The Chameleons, and Clan Of Xymox, they’ve dropped their newest single Kingdom, a precursor to their EP All That Is Solid Melts Into Air.

With Kingdom, Scattered Ashes push their musical boundaries, weaving themes of sex, death, and rebirth. The track channels the dark, moody vibes of Depeche Mode, Portishead, and Echo and the Bunnymen, blending guitars, drums, samples, synthesizers, and sequencers to forge a sound reminiscent of The Murder Capital and Massive Attack.

Lyrically, Kingdom confronts themes of heartbreak, mortality, and spirituality with its recurring mournful lines of grief, “ashes to ashes, dust to dust,” underscoring a tension between coming to terms with the end of a romance and the search for spiritual peace. The song speaks to the enduring pain of loss, highlighting the deep scars left behind and the struggle to move past profound life changes.

“Kingdom is a reflection on the acute sense of loss felt at the end of an intense physical relationship and the possibility of rebirth in its aftermath,” the band says. “The track examines the sanctifying nature of intimacy and how we as humans find our purpose in its ultimate end.”

Hannah Kelly’s video dives right into in the raw emotion of confronting this unique sorrow. Kelly skillfully captures the essence of navigating grief—whether on the Tube, a bus, riding in a car with bandmates, or beneath the stark stage lights – each setting frames a raw, cathartic performance. It’s a sombre ode to the art of release, vividly portraying the often dissociative journey of letting go with intense clarity.

WEEPING SILENCE: wie treffend doch der Name der maltesischen Band ist. Schließlich drückt die Band seit jeher auf die Tränendrüse und ließ sich oft im Kielwasser der Doom-Death / Gothic Metal-Bands der Jahrtausendwende verorten. Der Gothic-Einschlag ging in den letzten Jahren ein bisschen verloren. Indiz dafür mag auch sein, dass “Isles of Lore” das erste Album ohne Sängerin im Line-up ist. Somit ist Dario Pace Taliana alleinverantwortlich für die Vocals und er macht seine Sache… nun, durchschnittlich. Die Growls sind zwar guttural und tief, wenngleich teilweise leicht gebellt, aber der Clean-Gesang ist in Sachen Sattelfestigkeit und Volumen (etwa bei “The Collector”) ausbaufähig.

WEEPING SILENCE setzen Highlight mit Gast-Sänger Kobi Farhi (ORPHANED LAND)
Da passt es ganz gut, wenn sich die Band Gast-Sänger wie Kobi Farhi (ORPHANED LAND) ins Boot holt. Das dankt gleich der Opener “The Watcher on the Walls”, der mit dem stimmlichen Charisma des Gast-Sängers punktet: Konkret bringt der Israeli nach sechs Minuten eine recht spektakuläre Gesangslinie ein und lässt den Hörer an der emotionalen Traurigkeit teilhaben.

“Isles of Lore” erfüllt die Doom-Death / Gothic Metal Erwartungen
Kompositorisch und instrumental gibt es auf “Isles of Lore” hingegen wenig auszusetzen. Insbesondere, wenn man ein Faible für dieses (leicht angestaubte) Musikgenre hat. WEEPING SILENCE verstehen es gut, eine traurige Stimmung zu erzeugen, haben ein Talent für Melodien und können auch mit Longtracks ganz gut umgehen. Zwar gibt es im Gesamten etwas zu wenig Hooks (da hätten außergewöhnliche Vocals durchaus hilfreich sein können), doch im Gesamten bekommt man vom Album das, was man von den Routiniers aus Malta (instrumental) erwartet hat.

Einen gelungenen Album-Einstand darf man den Finnen von BARON attestieren. Zwar gibt es die Band schon seit knapp zehn Jahren, doch ist “Beneath the Blazing Abyss” das erste Album der Band aus Helsinki. Davor musste die Band sowohl ihr Line-Up als auch ihren aktuellen Stil finden. Letzterer reifte von einer Hardcore-Lastigkeit, die noch auf den frühen EPs der Band vorherrschte, zu einer Death Metal-Spielart, die auch vor corigem Groove und Death-Doom-Versatzstücken nicht Halt macht. Das gibt dem Material einen gewissen Abwechslungsreichtum, was gleich gesammelt im Opener “Primordial Possession” zu Tage tritt.

“Beneath the Blazing Abyss” lädt zum Headbangen ein
Generell sind die Songs auf “Beneath the Blazing Abyss” kraftvoll und animieren zum kräftigen Headbangen. Weiterhin leben sie ein Stück weit auch vom starken Growl-Gesang von Tommi Astala, der richtig viel Kraft und brüllende Bösartigkeit in seine Stimme zu legen vermag. Diese gesanglichen Vorzüge heben die leichte Enttäuschung dann auch über kompositorisch schwächelnde Songs wie “Infernal Atonement” hinweg, der im Übrigen nahtlos in das sinistre schleppende und über neunminütige “At the Dawn of Damnation” übergeht, das nach eineinhalb Minuten leicht Tempo aufnimmt und Old School Death Metal-Tendenzen erkennbar macht – mit ein Highlight des Albums, vielleicht weil es in Sachen Reinrassigkeit am ehesten Death-Doom Metal ist. Songs wie “Incinerated Evil” haben dann wieder ebendiese Durchmischung mit dem Groove der Hardcore-Vergangenheit der Band, wobei auch da der Death Metal federführend ist.

BARON und ihr Sänger Tommi Astala punkten mit Abwechslung und Durchschlagskraft
Wie eingangs erwähnt, kann man vor dem Debütalbum von BARON den Hut ziehen: abwechslungsreich in den Kompositionen, mit Durchschlagskraft in der Ausführung und mit einem Sänger, der dem Ganzen die passend kraftvolle und böse Stimme verleiht. Somit anerkennedes, aber doch zaghaftes Kopfnicken – mehr lässt der vom Headbangen schmerzende Nacken nicht zu.

Kansas City, Missouri-based darkwave band, Reviser has dropped two new tracks via all major digital outlets: “Assassins” & “Burn It Out”.

“Assassins” and “Burn It Out” are twin singles that address two sides of the same coin: “Assassins” addresses fighting the imposition of external power that wants to control us as individuals, and “Burn It Out” addresses finding power within ourselves, and to wield it wisely. The two singles were produced by Paul Malinowski of Shiner and are available now from Bandcamp.

Reviser was formed in the Winter of 2023 by baritone guitarist and vocalist Krysztof Nemeth (Kansas City’s Post-Punk / Shoegaze stalwarts Emmaline Twist). In the band we also see Dedric Moore on second guitar (his musical collaborator in Kansas City’s electro-dance outfit Monta) and Tom Romero on synths, a past-and-fellow Monta member as well. Musically they combine post-punk and shoegaze guitar voices with dark keyboard textures and drum machines.

Italian neoclassical and darkwave veterans Ataraxia unveil their new single and music video, “Coelestis”, the fourth offering from their forthcoming studio album, “Centaurea”, set for release on 22 May 2024, via The Circle Music. The album will contain eight original compositions and two previously unreleased bonus tracks (CD version only) as we reported earlier.

The label says this about the new video: “‘Coelestis’ is an awakening to new life, a symbolic shedding of blindness and a connection forged through dance. The video takes viewers on a journey to the island of Centaurea, where priestesses dance with the wind in their hair, their movements mirroring the harmonious grace of swimmers on a lake. White birds flutter like flames, and sunlight bathes the scene in an aura of serenity. Finally, a soul is freed, running barefoot towards a sacred wood and swimming amongst water lilies, a lotus flower blossoming with expanded consciousness.”

Synthwave act Dead Astronauts, Jared Kyle and Slade Templeton, has resurfaced with a 4th studio album, “Ghosts”, holding 13 tracks. “Ghosts” explores what the band’s label Cold Transmission Music calls “the profound notion that the remnants of our past persist within us (…) the idea that the things we leave behind are indelible imprints on our souls, persisting like ethereal specters that silently influence our present.”

Florence Bullock from Glitbiter fame was invited to work on “Ghosts” as well. Bullock had previously collaborated with Jared and Slade on Dead Astronauts’ full-length album, “Silhouettes”.

The album will be presented live at the Wave Gotik Treffen in Leipzig/Germany where Dead Astronauts will celebrate their European live premiere this year.

Die Modern Metal-Band MY FAVOURITE NEMESIS hat nach “A Paradox You Seek” mit “Chimera” einen weiteren Video-Clip ihrer neuen EP “We Annihilate I” veröffentlicht. Die Scheibe, welche den ersten von zwei Teilen einer EP-Reihe darstellt, folgt auf das zweite Album der Finnen, “Eidolon” (2023), nach und ist am 26. April 2024 via Seek and Strike erschienen. Vor wenigen Wochen ist ein Video zum Opener “We Annihilate” erschienen.

“Der Track handelt davon, etwas Neues zu erschaffen und einen neuen Weg zu finden, und um das zu tun, muss man das Alte zerstören. Es geht auch darum, was die Zukunft bringt, und das ist ein Kernthema für die ganze EP und deshalb haben wir es als Leadsingle ausgewählt. Dieser Track ist sehr schnell entstanden, sowohl beim Komponieren als auch beim Schreiben der Texte. Nachdem das erste Demo fertig war, passte einfach alles, und es wurde ein sehr ergreifender und eingängiger Song”, erklärt die Band.

Out now is the brand new Frontal Boundary single “Shutting Down”. The EBM / dark electro single’s lead track is backed by two remixes by unitcode:machine and Panic Lift.

Frontal Boundary is a Los Angeles-based dark electro trio and with “Shutting Down” they release their second single and title track from their forthcoming album, the follow-up to their 2021 full length “The Fall”.

According to the band, this new single “explores the universal struggles we all face – the internal battles of balancing our emotions and those of the people around us. It’s a reflection of the constant effort to move forward, even when it feels like we’re never quite enough.”

The single is out now on all platforms via Re:Mission Entertainment.

Shutting Down (single) by Frontal Boundary

Brendin Ross started Frontal Boundary back in 2008. A first album, “Lost and Recovered”, was never released on any platform, and consisted of mostly instrumental b-sides that Ross had written between 2005-2008. There are a few tracks floating around the internet from that. After moving to Los Angeles, in 2014, he started focusing more on the other bands he was in such as Dawn of Ashes, INVA//ID and Bornless Fire. First out were two mini-albums, “Electronic Warfare” and “Electronic Warfare V2”, which were both centered around his time in the US Army and his divorce that were both happening at the same time. Note that for “The Fall” album Krz Souls would take over the vocal duties in the band.

Die Heavy / Power Metal-Band NIGHTMARE hat mit “Nexus Inferis” einen zweiten neuen Vorabtrack auf allen gängigen Streamingportalen veröffentlicht.

Zuvor teilte die Gruppe mit “Saviours Of The Damned” eine neue Single samt Musikvideo bei YouTube.

Zuletzt gab es mit “Eternal Winter” einen Song von ihrem 2009er-Album “Insurrection” als Neuaufnahme. Die Intention dahinter war, die neue Sängerin Barbara Mogore (SONGBIRD, Ex-MUDDLES) vorzustellen. Derzeit bereiten die Franzosen die Veröffentlichung ihres Studioalbums “Encrypted” vor, das auf das 2020er-Album “Aeternam” nachfolgt und am 7. Juni 2024 via AFM Records erscheinen wird.

Zu “Encrypted” äußern sich NIGHTMARE wie folgt:

„Mit der Ankunft von Barbara, die NIGHTMARE in neue Dimensionen transzendiert, haben wir beschlossen, uns in Bezug auf den musikalischen Ansatz in neue Höhen zu begeben, um Encrypted zu unserem bisher ehrgeizigsten Album in Bezug auf Produktion, musikalische Richtung und Leistung zu machen… Man findet hier traditionelles Power-Metal-Riffing im Markenzeichen von NIGHTMARE, aber auch extreme Metal-Parts und einige Highlights, die sogar Melodic Death Metal erreichen… was ‘Encrypted’ zu unserem bisher abwechslungsreichsten Werk macht, jenseits aller Grenzen und Erwartungen…”

+ + + : Les Longs Adieux have considerably improved most aspects of the production. First there’s a perfect balance between the guitar play and electronic sections. The work is also more accessible than its predecessor because all of the tracks have been sung in English while a few songs also feature a refreshing a moderner touch.

– – – : From a very personal point of view I would have preferred they accentuated the Dark-Wave side of their sound instead of dreamy compositions.

Conclusion: Les Longs Adieux is progressively evolving towards a higher level of production.

Die Cinematic Progressive Djent-Band VANITAS hat nach dem Video-Clip zu “Grey Morality” mit “Lies” eine weitere neue Single mitsamt Video-Clip veröffentlicht. Der Song sei eine Hymne auf die weibliche Wut, die sich mit der Idee der bewaffneten Inkompetenz auseinandersetzt und ein Aufruf an Frauen in aller Welt ist, ihrer Wut auf das Patriarchat Ausdruck zu verleihen.

Es gibt Dinge, die man einfach nicht macht, aber hin und wieder dennoch tut. Das taktische Foul im Mannschaftssport beispielsweise, das dem eigenen Team einen Vorteil verschafft. Nun messen sich FEUERSCHWANZ freilich nicht mit anderen Kapellen im direkten Wettstreit, sehen sich gleichwohl aber trotzdem als Krieger, die mit dieser Sonderveröffentlichung einen kalkulierten Regelbruch wagen: Auf „Warriors“ bedient sich die fränkische Mittelalter- / Power Metal-Band für ihre Eigenkompositionen erstmalig der englischen Sprache und hat dafür neben einer Cover-Version und einem brandneuen Track insgesamt zehn Nummern der jüngeren Schaffensperiode in der Fremdsprache neu intoniert.

Dass sich FEUERSCHWANZ bei der Übertragung ins Englische auch Freiheiten zugestehen, ist zugleich Ausdruck von Selbstvertrauen und Kreativität, während man die Kernaussagen der Stücke auch im neuen Gewand bewahrt. Dass aus dem „Knochenkarrussell“ nun der „Circle Pit Of Hell“ wurde, ist zwar nur nach ein paar Gläsern Met gut zu ertragen, trübt die sonst durchdachte Umsetzung aber nur unwesentlich.

“Warriors” fehlen die schlagkräftigen Argumente
Nachhaltig in Erinnerung bleibt derweil für Kenner der Band wenig: Das eigens für „Warriors“ komponierte „The Unholy Grail“ ist ein solider Beitrag ohne großen Wiedererkennungswert, wohingegen das MIRACLE OF SOUND-Cover „Valhalla Calling“ immerhin kompetent in den bandeigenen Klangkosmos übersetzt wurde.

Der Rest ist trotz einiger Gastfeatures aus dem Napalm-Stall gleichwohl wenig spektakulär und quasi per Definition arm an Höhepunkten: Da es sich bei den übrigen zehn Stücken ausschließlich um bekanntes Songmaterial handelt, das im Fall von „Bastard of Asgard“ zudem ohne den Gesang Fabienne Ernis (ELUVEITIE, ILLUMISHADE) etwas Glanz verliert, fehlen „Warriors“ schlicht die schlagkräftigen Argumente.

Mit “Warriors” schielen FEUERSCHWANZ auf den internationalen Markt
Klar, dass FEUERSCHWANZ ihr älteres Material für diese Zusammenstellung komplett außer Acht lassen, hat seine Gründe: kommerziell als auch finanziell. Denn im Prinzip ist „Warriors“ eine Platte für einen neuen Markt, um mit wenig Aufwand die internationale Hörerschaft für sich zu gewinnen. Das ist grundsätzlich verständlich und auch ohne realen Mehrwert für alteingesessene Fans vertretbar, sofern man für dieses Sparpaket nicht den Vollpreis aufruft. FEUERSCHWANZ machen es trotzdem, wohlwissend, dass ein kleines taktisches Foul nicht nur im Mannschaftssport in aller Regelmäßigkeit zum Erfolg führen kann.

Portland’s Federale presents “Heaven Forgive Me”, featuring The Black Angels’ Alex Mass on backing vocals. The single is the lead track of their sixth album “Reverb & Seduction”, out this summer via Jealous Butcher Records.

Their sixth studio album, “Reverb & Seduction” marks the band’s twentieth anniversary. Comprised of 10 tracks, the new album was recorded at Revolver Studios in Portland and engineered by Collin Hegna, Matt Thomson and Andrew Joslyn. Mixed by Jeff Stuart Saltzman (The Black Keys, The High Violets), Matt Thomson and Collin Hegna, this album was mastered by Adam Gonsalves at Telegraph Mastering.

The lineup includes some well-known Portland vets, including The Shivas, Roselit Bone, Dandy Warhols, Rogue Wave and Delines. The band will be touring the West Coast to coincide with the new record’s July release. A European tour will follow in late fall 2024.

As of April 24, “Heaven Forgive Me” is available everywhere digitally, including Apple Music, Spotify, Tidal and Bandcamp. The full “Reverb & Seduction” album, which can be pre-ordered now, will be released on July 12, available on CD and vinyl.

Die Grindcore / Death Metal-Band FEED THEM DEATH hat mit “The Malady” ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist das vierte Album der Band, die aus dem Solo-Projekt von Void zu einem Trio angewachsen ist.

“The Malady” wurde gemeinsam mit Jake Saunders in den Clang Studios aufgenommen und von Giorgio Barroccu gemixt und gemastert. Release-Termin ist der 20. Juni 2024 via Brucia Records. Vorab gibt es den Song “Panopticism II” zu hören.

Interview withThomas Elbern (guitar, vocal) from Escape with Romeo ESCAPE WITH ROMEO, founded by Thomas Elbern in 1988, embarked on a journey blending Atari computers and musical ideas into reality. Their break-through hit ‘Somebody’ propelled them into the music scene, touring extensively across Germany and Europe. After a hiatus from 2018 to 2022, they returned with the compilation album ‘Based on a true Story’, rejuvenating their sound with guitar-driven Post-Punk influences.

Die Black Metal-Band STORMCROW hat einen Labeldeal bei Time To Kill Records unterschrieben. Im Zuge dessen werden die Italiener ihr neues Album “Path to Ascension” veröffentlichen, welches am 31. Mai 2024 erscheinen wird. Mit “Ascension” gibt es nun ein weiteres Lyric-Video.

“Dieses Lied hat zwei wichtige Bedeutungen”, erklärt die Band. “Physisch, einen Berg zu besteigen und die Kraft zu finden, alle Widrigkeiten zu überwinden, die uns auf unserem Lebensweg begegnen, und eine eher spirituelle Bedeutung, also die innere Reifung, die Erkenntnis, dass wir Teil von etwas sind, das viel größer ist als wir.”

“Path to Ascension” ist nach “Disposition to Tyranny” (2012) und “Face the Giant” (2019) das dritte Album der bereits 1997 gegründeten Band aus Mailand und wurde von Carlo Meroni im ADSR Studio aufgenommen und gemixt und von Magnus “Devo” Andersson gemastert. Das Cover-Artwork stammt von Arianna “Trollenskog” Carbone. Als Vorgeschmack auf das Album gibt es weiterhin neben dem Video-Clip zu “Vulgus Vult Decipi” und dem Track “Dark Existence” mit “Petit Dru” ebenso ein Lyric-Video.

“”Petit Dru” ist der epische Gipfel im Mont-Blanc-Massiv, der am 22. August 1955 vom italienischen Alpinisten Walter Bonatti im Alleingang bezwungen wurde. Das Lied erzählt von dieser unmöglichen Herausforderung, die er als “verrückte Idee aus moralischer Depression” bezeichnete. Bonatti verbrachte sechs Tage in einer senkrechten Wand, um sich seinen Dämonen zu stellen, er hatte Halluzinationen von der Anstrengung, in manchen Momenten dachte er sogar daran, aufzugeben, aber seine enorme Willenskraft ermöglichte es ihm, diesen Gipfel zu bezwingen, den schwierigsten seines Lebens”, erklärt die Band.
