Trick or treat! Duran Duran unveils a procession of US tour dates this October, culminating in a Halloween concert at Madison Square Garden in New York City. This announcement follows the eerie success of their 2023 album, Danse Macabre, a creation inspired by a particularly haunting night in Las Vegas back in 2022.

Promising to uphold this macabre spirit during the season of the witch, Duran Duran’s Halloween show in NYC will blend their classic hits with spectral new tunes. Fans are invited to don their most ghoulish attire and join in the haunting revelry on October 31st.

Rise from your coffins and prepare for the occasion! Tickets go on sale Friday, July 12 at 10 AM ET, with presales beginning Wednesday, July 10 at 10 AM ET. Secure your place at this ghostly gathering here.

In addition to their Halloween show, Duran Duran will haunt several East Coast cities this fall. The tour kicks off in Allentown, PA, making stops in Verona, NY; Uncasville, CT; Atlantic City, NJ; and Baltimore, MD, before culminating in the grand Danse Macabre Halloween Party at Madison Square Garden. The final curtain will fall on November 2 in Manchester, NH.

Seien wir ehrlich, ein bisschen heile Welt können wir alle gebrauchen. Dass uns also Multiinstrumentalist Neige an einem Stück seiner eigenen teilhaben lässt, ist ein seltener Lichtblick in schwierigen Zeiten. Jene sind es auch, die den Ausschlag für „Les Chants de l’Aurore“ gaben: unter anderem die Pandemie, die Verluste, die wir in den vergangenen Jahren hinnehmen mussten, verleiteten ALCEST zu einer Rückbesinnung auf die Anfangstage.

Jene Atmosphäre soll das siebte Studioalbum einfangen und geht dabei doch einen Schritt weiter. Denn dank der sanften und anschmiegsamen Produktion versprühen die sieben Stücke der Platte eine so nicht gekannte Wärme. Neiges helle Singstimme umschmeichelt die Ohren, während sich filigrane und nicht selten zerbrechliche Arrangements vor uns ausbreiten. Tatsächlich würden wir am liebsten schützend die Hände um die unschuldig-naiv anmutenden „Komorebi“ und „L’Envol“ legen, als würden wir eine flackernde Kerzenflamme vor den gnadenlosen Windböen bewahren.

ALCEST schenken uns mit “Les Chants De l’Aurore” ein Stückchen heile Welt
Sicher ist somit, dass „Les Chants de l’Aurore“ abermals zum Tagträumen und entrückten Dahinschwelgen einlädt, viel mehr wohl noch als in der Vergangenheit. In Kauf nehmen wir dafür gerne die Schwerpunktsetzung in Richtung Post Rock, weil ALCEST sich trotz allem nicht in Plattitüden verlieren. Die Black-Metal-Wurzeln mögen nur noch selten in den Vordergrund treten, prägen ein Stück wie „Améthyste“ allerdings durchaus noch fundamental: Gerade die Gitarren sind hier noch unverkennbar im Blackgaze verwurzelt, wenngleich die hoffnungsspendende Aura des Albums die genretypischen Kanten abschleift.

Den rohen Charakter, den das Debüt „Souvenirs d’un autre monde“ (2007) jedenfalls hindurchblitzen ließ, finden wir anno 2024 trotz einiger dosierter Screams nicht mehr vor. Dafür streicheln das pianogetragene „Réminiscence“ oder das versöhnliche „Flamme Jumelle“ die Seele in unnachahmlicher Weise, woraufhin wir uns spätestens in „L’Enfant de la Lune“ komplett der charmanten Schönheit dieses Werks hingeben möchten. Auch unter diesem Gesichtspunkt scheint der Titel „Les Chants de l’Aurore“ so bedacht wie perfekt gewählt. Die Lieder der Morgenröte nehmen uns behutsam in den Arm und geben uns das zurück, was wir dieser Tage fast schon verloren glaubten: ein Stückchen heile Welt.

Die Heavy Metal-Band KRYPTOS hat mit “Decimator” ein neues Album herausgebracht. Es ist das siebte Album der indischen Band aus Bangalore. Produziert von Jamie Elton ist das neue Album der vor über 25 Jahren gegründeten Band am 5. Juli 2024 via AFM Records erschienen. Zum Release teilte die Gruppe den Clip “We Are The Night” bei YouTube.

ESCUELA GRIND stellen mit der Single “Turbulence” einen weiteren Track des kommenden Albums “Dreams on Algorithms” vor. Die neue Platte der Grind/Death Metal-Band erscheint am 18. Oktober 2024.

“Mit diesem Song haben wir uns etwas getraut, das wird schon beim ersten Hören klar”, erklärt Sängerin Katerina Economou. “Wir sind bereit, mit “Turbulence” ein Risiko einzugehen. Wir haben so viel live gespielt,  und sind nun bereit, all diese Einflüsse zusammenzutragen. Der cleane Gesang mag einige Leute überraschen, die von einer Grind/Hardcore-Band kommen, aber nachdem wir mit NAPALM DEATH auf Tour waren, wurde uns klar, dass wir auch mit unserer Musik überraschen wollen. Wir wollten auf jeden Fall einen eingängigen Refrain, den alle bei unseren Festivalauftritten mitsingen können, und ich hoffe, die Fans mögen den Song genauso sehr wie wir.

Nearly four decades since its initial release, The Moon and the Melodies by Cocteau Twins and Harold Budd is being reissued on vinyl for the first time on August 23, remastered from the original tapes by Robin Guthrie.

The Moon and the Melodies stands as an ethereal anomaly in the Cocteau Twins’ catalogue, guided by the free-form improvisations of ambient pioneer Harold Budd. This collaboration felt like a serendipitous convergence of celestial bodies, hinting at a potential future direction for the trio—a path they ultimately chose not to tread again. The album builds on the atmospheric bliss of Victorialand, released earlier that year, and has since garnered a devoted following. Tracks like “Sea, Swallow Me” have found new life on social media, becoming the backdrop to countless expressions of inarticulate melancholy.

Despite its understated origins, The Moon and the Melodies casts a long shadow. Simon Raymonde believes its uniqueness stems from its humble, unpremeditated creation: “It captured a moment in time between friends enjoying making music together. Die Stoner / Doom Rock-Band ERRONAUT hat für 30. August 2024 ihr Debütalbum “The Space Inbetween” angekündigt. Ursprünglich firmierten die Briten unter dem Namen BLACK ATLAS, bevor sie mit der Umbenennung einen Neustart wagten. Sänger Mikey Ward kommentiert:

“Als wir mit dem Schreiben begannen, haben wir uns sehr bemüht, uns als Künstler und Teamplayer weiterzuentwickeln. Wir sind wirklich stolz darauf, wie dieses Album geworden ist, und wir haben das Gefühl, dass es eine echte Repräsentation dessen ist, was wir zu erreichen versuchen, sowohl im Studio als auch als Live-Act auf der Bühne.”

In a surprise announcement, The Wolfgang Press, the enigmatic 4AD masterminds of post-punk and avant-garde funk, are set to make a triumphant return with brand new music. For the first time in nearly three decades, The Wolfgang Press has re-formed and are set to release A 2nd Shape on September 27th through Downward Records.

Emerging from the depths of London’s underground scene in the early 1980s, the original lineup of Michael Allen, Mark Cox, and Andrew Gray forged a path with their dark, experimental soundscapes and infectious rhythms that blended brooding post-punk with danceable grooves.

Their previous albums, Bird Wood Cage and Queer, remain touchstones of innovation, influencing countless artists with their genre-defying approach.  A 2nd Shape was conjured up by founding members Michael Allen and Andrew Gray, with Andrew’s brother, Stephen Gray, joining the fray. (Founding member Mark Cox left the band in 1995 and does not appear on this album.)

The Wolfgang Press has released a teaser trailer that offers a taste of what’s to come. In A 2nd Shape, the trio seemingly abandons their trademark avant-garde funk infusion for a darker, more intense collection of tracks. The result is a revitalized band, brimming with new energy. A 2nd Shape feels like music for these times, the only kind of statement a group can make after enduring the growing discontent of recent years. For all the moments of atmospheric contemplation, however, The Wolfgang Press is as self-possessed as ever.

“This album arrived naturally and organically,” says the band. “The tracks came about from a measured process, and we feel A 2nd Shape is timely and essential. We also feel Downwards Records has fitted in perfectly with this process, their enthusiasm for this project has been tangible and encouraging…For this project we wanted the record to be made without the use of computers. It was important for us that the tracks were recorded on tape and played live as a band, with very little tampering/overdubbing. We purposely limited ourselves in the number of tracks we could record by using an old ADAT 8-track machine and the result of how well this worked surprised us all.”

Zum Glück sind all die subtile Erotik, elektrisierende Spannung und die düstere musikalische Leidenschaft nicht für alle Zeiten verloren gegangen: Die Rettung naht mit SOROR DOLOROSA auf schwarzen Schwingen. Der PERTURBATOR-Vordenker hat die üppige Produktion dieses epischen Albums mit einer vibrierenden Power und wohltuenden ätherischen Kühle aufpoliert. Textlich bleiben SOROR DOLOROSA dem seit ihrer Gründung im Jahr 2001 in der südfranzösischen Stadt Toulouse eingeschlagenen Weg treu. Die erstmals mit der "Severance" (2009) Debüt-EP manifestierten dunkel-romantischen und kathartischen Gefühlslandschaften lassen noch immer das Herz der Band schlagen. Die Inspiration für "Mond" stammt unter anderen aus den Federn von Dichtern und Schriftstellern wie William Blake und Edgar Alan Poe. Mit "Mond" wagen sich SOROR DOLOROSA weit aus dem bekannten Sonnensystem in die Tiefen des musikalischen Weltraums vor, wo sich ihre tonale Vergangenheit und Zukunft zu einem aufregenden neuen Kapitel in der Evolution ihres Sounds verbinden.

“Dark Paradise” ist der Titel des neuen Studioalbums aus dem Hause IMPERIA. Die Symphonic Metal-Band veröffentlicht ihre neue Platte am 26. Juli 2024 via Massacre Records auf CD, Vinyl sowie digital. Wie sich die Scheibe anhört, verrät der Clip zum Song “Reach My Tears”.

Vorab reinhören ist auch in einen zweiten Track möglich: Zur Single “Better Place” hat die Formation ein Musikvideo gedreht.

Den Mix des nunmehr siebten Albums übernahm Jacob Hansen. Zudem ist Oliver Philipps als Gastmusiker zu hören – er übernahm Piano, Orchestrierung, zusätzliche Gitarrenspuren sowie Vocals beim Song “Lost Souls”.

ASENBLUT veröffentlichten am 2. August 2024 ein neues Album mit dem Titel “Entfesselt”. Zum Release präsentiert die Band ein Musikvideo zum Stück “Nox Nostra Est” bei YouTube.

Einen animierten Clip zur Single “Wie ein Berserker” hat die Gruppe ebenfalls bei YouTube geteilt.

Auch zum Titelstück haben ASENBLUT einen Clip gedreht, den man sich bei YouTube anschauen kann. Reinhören ist außerdem in die Single “Unbesiegbar” möglich – zum Track hat die Viking / Melodic Death Metal-Band ein Musikvideo produziert. Frontmann Tetzel erklärt zur Nummer:

“Wir schämen uns oft für Dinge, die wir nicht kontrollieren können und an denen wir keinen Anteil haben. Treten wir also einen Schritt zurück und betrachten wir das Gesamtbild. Schaut, was die Menschheit erreicht hat. Wir haben das Meer, das Land und den Himmel erobert und sogar begonnen, nach den Sternen zu greifen. Missbilligt nicht, was wir getan haben, um dort zu sein, wo wir jetzt sind. Die Menschheit kann großartig sein, wenn wir unser Potenzial ausschöpfen! Gemeinsam sind wir unbesiegbar, anpassungsfähig und stark!“

“Entfesselt” erscheint via Massacre Records auf CD, Vinyl sowie digital. Maté Balogh übernahm die Produktion inklusive Mix und Mastering, wobei auch Andrea Testori an Letzterem beteiligt war. Für das Artwork zeichnet Nick Greenwood verantwortlich.

Im August und September spielen ASENBLUT einige Konzerte – im Vorprogramm mit dabei sind DELIVER THE GALAXY.

MODERN RITES stellen mit “Becoming” bei YouTube einen weiteren Song ihres kommenden Albums vor. “Endless” erscheint am 30. August 2024 via Debemur Morti Productions. Auch zum Titelsong “Endless” gibt’s ein Video bei YouTube.

“Endless” ist nach “Monuments” das zweite Album des Industrial-Black-Metal-Duos Berg (AARA) und Jonny Warren (KUYASHII).

Jonny Warren gibt Einblicke in die Entstehung des Albums:

“Als wir die Ideen für das Album unter die Lupe genommen haben, war klar, dass wir reichere Harmonien und mehr Synthesizer wollten. Viele Ideen entstanden deshalb am Keyboard. Der Titeltrack begann am Klavier, an dem ich die ersten Akkorde und Melodien entwickelte. Dann habe ich Bass-, Synthesizer- und programmierte Schlagzeugparts gebaut. Der Teil, der jetzt im Pre-Chorus und in der Bridge zu hören ist, war ursprünglich das Intro, aber wir haben beschlossen, die ursprüngliche Struktur zu zerhacken, um insgesamt ein “größeres” Gefühl zu erzeugen.

Im Vergleich zum ersten Album gab es viel mehr virtuelles Hin und Her zwischen Berg und mir, da wir mit mehr Spuren arbeiten konnten. Oft hatten wir beim Aufwachen neue Ideen, wir haben uns dann über die Zeitverschiebung hinweg darüber ausgetauscht. Außerdem habe ich meinen Bass tiefer gestimmt, damit er zu Bergs Gitarren passt.  Ich denke, dass dadurch einige der Riffs einen größeren Eindruck hinterlassen haben als beim letzten Mal.

Und schließlich schulden wir Simón im Empty Hall Studio großen Dank dafür, dass er mit dem Mix für Kohärenz gesorgt und unsere Vision zum Leben erweckt hat.”

The creative spirit of First Nations people has long been suppressed by colonial forces. Residential schools and bans on traditional practices aimed to sever cultural continuity, while economic hardships limited access to artistic resources. Indigenous voices have usually beensilenced or misrepresented, with narratives controlled by outsiders and cultural symbols exploited without consent. Systemic racism and political oppression further marginalized Indigenous artists, creating barriers in funding, representation, and intellectual property protection.

Despite these challenges, the resilience of First Nations people has led to a powerful resurgence. Indigenous artists are reclaiming their heritage, sharing authentic stories, and fostering a vibrant cultural revival. Their creative expressions now serve as a profound reminder of the enduring strength and beauty of Indigenous culture, illuminating a path toward a more inclusive and respectful future.

Part of this renaissance is the band OMBIIGIZI, pronounced om-BEE-ga-ZAY, meaning “this is noisy.” They are a poignant fusion of the distinct heritages and musical structures of Anishnaabe artists Daniel and Adam Sturgeon. The Canadian duo infuses their passionate and perceptive art rock with the rich storytelling traditions of their families. The Anishinaabe musical revolution is deeply layered and far-reaching, inspiring and influencing all generations to gather, sing, and speak, as they have always done – but in a modern context.

OMBIIGIZI’s unique “moccasin gaze” style draws from the boundless energy and palette of modern rock, combined with the ancient melodies and rhythms of their ancestry, OMBIIGIZI skillfully envision a hopeful future, one born from our shared efforts to communicate our realities with each other and the wider world.

Translating to ‘river’ in Anishinaabe, the beautiful new single “Ziibi” honors the power of the elements by blending First Nations heritage with a deep affection for psychedelic-tinged shoegaze. It is poetic, gentle, and entrancing – the two cultures embellish each other’s strengths and create a compelling hybrid sound. The vocals float smoothly over layered acoustic guitars, building to electric, emotional heights in a timeless chorus. Through their music, OMBIIGIZI dispels the long-held silence imposed upon Indigenous people – defining themselves on their own terms.

Daniel Monkman (Zoon) had the Red River that flows through Manitoba in mind when he wrote Ziibi. “It’s a very long river all the way from the Mississippi,” he explains. “I grew up along the shore of that river looking into it. Watching as it would swallow up all our bikes and skateboards. My first realization of how powerful the elements are….The river teaches us.”

OMBIIGIZI took the time to speak with Post-Punk.com about their creative process and direction the band is taking.

Can you share more about the creative process behind “Ziibi” and how the river influenced the composition and lyrics?

For me, I was taught that river gives life and it was a way to trade along the Red River settlement, in Winnipeg Manitoba. I feel like that meaning applies to how Ombiiigizi operates and our philosophy.

You’ve now put out two singles from your upcoming LP. How do they differ from your ZOON project?

I would say that in a way it’s showing the new Zoon style and letting it spill into the OMBIIGIZI system. That’s what we loved about this album. We had a chance to bring in our signature sounds. Our first album was a battle to be different and now we kinda leaned into our own sounds.

Anfang Juni teilten FLOTSAM AND JETSAM einen Clip zur Single “Primal” bei YouTube. Das Stück folgte auf das Lyric-Video zum Titeltrack bei YouTube. Zur Platte haben die US-Amerikaner Folgendes zu sagen:

Robert Alfons, the enigmatic force behind TR/ST, returns with a sharpened edge and a soaring new sound. This track is a stylish deviation, spotlighting Alfons’ intricate synth-pop psychodrama and his distinctive swagger.

Performance takes its name from a friend’s offhand remark about Alfons’ inherently performative demeanor. The 11-track album “Model Kollapse” comes in two versions, a CD in digipak and a thick 16 pages booklet, and as a limited bleach effect double vinyl. Embracing the darkest facets of classic post-punk gothic rock, French outfit Soror Dolorosa returns to prowl under moonlight once more with their brooding and atmospheric new single “Tear It Up” and its visually arresting music video. Channeling the suave essence of the 90s and the iconic style of the devil may care swagger of the Sisters of Mercy at their peak, the track is a herald for their upcoming full-length album Mond, set to release this October — just in time for the season of the witch.

On the introductory single for the new album, the band explains:

“Our first single ‘Tear It Up’ is also the opening track of the new album,” mastermind Andy Julia explains. “This magic song was composed in a one-take. Inspired by Jean-Baptiste Marquet’s composition, the lyrics just appeared all of a sudden in one session. This also marks Jean-Baptiste’s entry as a composer into the band as he had joined us after the release of ‘Apollo’ in 2018. The lyrics revolve around the acceptance of childhood traumata, and the transcendence that we can reach from this – if we dare to face them. ‘Tear It Up’ was the obvious choice for a first single and video clip taken from ‘Mond’. When we asked Mathilde, the actress in the video, she declared that this song was made for her. We had an unforgettable experience playing at La Maison des Choeurs in Montpellier in October 2023. This made it an easy decision for us to return to the place in order to shoot the ‘Tear It Up’ video in this wonderful 17th century neo-classical church.”

Marquet, a recent addition to the band, brings a fresh creative energy, his influence palpable in the song’s composition. The lyrics delve into the acceptance of childhood traumas and the transcendence that can be achieved by confronting them—a thematic prelude to the depths explored in Mond.

In a time when many long for the halcyon days of post-punk and New Wave, Soror Dolorosa burns with a smoldering fire of dark resurgence. Their music echoes the eras of Sisters of Mercy, Fields of the Nephilim, and Depeche Mode, yet is anything but nostalgic retreading. The band infuses classic dark elements with a contemporary vigor, thanks in part to James Kent, aka Perturbator, whose mixing and mastering have given Mond a lush, vibrant sound.

The lineup of Andy Julia (vocals), Hervé Carles (bass), Jean-Baptiste Marquet (guitars), and live guitarist Xavier Pinel, along with guest contributions from Nicolas Horvath on piano and James Kent’s arrangements, collectively shape an album that is as expansive as it is intimate. Mond is a testament to their growth and resilience, marked by personal introspections and sonic explorations.

Visually, Mond is equally compelling. Andy Julia’s cover artwork, complemented by the layout by Hannah Hassouly, captures the album’s dark allure. Available in a 36-page hardcover 2CD artbook with a bonus CD Aurora, as well as limited gold and black vinyl LPs, Mond is poised to be a love letter to fans of old-school gothic rock.

Eight years after their first collaboration that resulted in the album “Proslambanomenos”, Empusae and Peter Bjärgö (Arcana, Sophia, Karjalan sissit ao) released a new work entitled “Onus”. The four songs are worked out and compelling. It sounds dark and somewhere between Dark-Ambient and pure Cinematic music featuring carrying, slow, rhythms. “Black And Blue” is the fourth instalment between Emileigh Rohn (Chiasm) and Jean-Marc Lederman (The Weathermen, Ghost & Writer, Lederman / De Meyer ao). “Black” brings a more danceable side of Electro/Industrial-Pop with the sensual vocals of Emileigh on top. There are also minimal passages and bombastic arrangements that you can hear in this original and atypical Electro-Pop style. “Blue” completely breaks with the danceable character of “Black” and brings an atmospheric, refined, and Cinematic approach with still sexy vocals. I personally prefer “Black” instead of “Blue”. (Rate: 7½).

Die Scheibe folgt auf das 2019er-Debütalbum der US-Amerikaner aus Atlanta, “Gehenna”, nach und ist am 5. Juli 2024 via Dark Sails Entertainment erschienen. Die EP wurde von Aaron Pace gemixt und gemastert und mit einem Cover-Artwork von Andreas Christanetoff ausgestattet.
